WIP Wednesday

Thank you so much for the tag @eclectic-sassycoweyes, I want you to know that this is my first time, and I am very emotional about that. 🥹 Then I decided to post a piece of a very different AU that I had the idea this week and started writing, I am very excited about this!

"TK's shift was almost done when he was called into the ER to help with someone that just arrived. He rolled his eyes, Tommy could be the best and the worst boss when she wanted.

Then he was informed that a man had just been admitted with a dislocated shoulder and this is a pretty regular injury, normally just a re-set needed.

TK rolled his eyes again at the nurse's assessment in the patient forms, he only hoped that she didn't tell the patient that this would be easy, not all dislocated shoulders are a matter of pushing back into the joint simply, sometimes is more complicated than that.

TK then put his doctor's coat back, passed the nurse station, and took the patient's medical record with himself.

Carlos T. Reyes, 28 years old. The first check confirmed a dislocated shoulder. No allergies informed. No other injuries.

When the doctor opened the curtain to the cubicle where the said main was, he saw someone who clearly was in a good amount of pain, holding the arm to the chest, but refusing to lay down in the bed.

"Mr Reyes, looks like we are looking at a dislocated shoulder here?" TK started talking with the man, he knew that the diagnosis was this one, but he liked to talk with the patients, and try to make them more relaxed despite the pain and fear.

"Yes." The answer was short and low, and TK frowned a bit. This image does not fit with the man on the stretcher. A tall, strongly builded man.

TK then explained that an exam would be needed now, he needed the man to remove the shirt so he could say if it was simple like the nurse made it look. Carlos nodded and started to unbutton his shirt, only to grimace in pain, the movement clearly painful. TK approached to help and the man looked a little freaked?

Even if this is an ordinary injury that can be caused in so many ways, the man's eyes are all the time looking to the door as if fearing something - or someone. TK attended enough domestic violence victims to know that look very well.

"Hey, you know we are in a safe space right?" TK started while evaluating pressing carefully the injury and deciding if an X-ray would be needed without looking into the man's eyes, he knows how hard it is for people like him to trust anyone in this situation.

"What?" The man asked kind of scared. Now TK knows for sure, he is being abused.

"I mean that you are in a safe space if someone is hurting you and you need me to ask for the police." TK felt the man tense up under his touch, one more confirmation.

"I am the police." The man answered and TK looked up, surprised.

"Okay, but in the same way doctors can be sick and need other doctors, cops could need other cops to help them, there is no shame in it." TK moved the arm and the man hissed and the doctor decided to ask for an x-ray to confirm if nothing was broken since the joint was too much swollen and turning purple." Happy Wednesday everyone ☀️☀️ Have a snippet of a future First Aid chapter. thanks for tagging me @carlos-in-glasses @honeybee-taskforce @sznofthesticks

As if to fan the flames of hope, Carlos smiles at him right then and there, driving the heat in TK up a notch. “Sure, I’m free. Should we go to yours?”

“My dad’s home,” TK admits, a cool spot spreading from his stomach out. “He has two days off actually, and for once he’s the one holed up in the apartment with his new date. She’s his dentist. It’s weird.” He waves his hand, noticing how hard even that is with sore arms. Even before asking, he knows he will be rejected. He tries anyway. “Maybe we could go to yours for a change? You could give me a proper room tour and make the risotto you keep on teasing me with.”

Some of the ease in their step immediately vanishes. The tick of a watch stutters and the city returns to a concrete maze. Carlos looks behind himself again as they stop at an intersection, before slowly turning back to him. His eyes stay hefted on the streetlight though. “I don’t think that’s a good idea. I haven’t had time to clean properly.”

“Oh, come on. I don’t mind.” TK tugs at Carlos’ arm, knowing how to get his full attention. “Please don’t make me return home and potentially be scared by finding my dad in some weird doctor-patient scenario.”

“From what you told me, it wouldn’t be the first time.”

TK changes direction and steers them around the corner, toward Carlos’ apartment, and back to their conversation. “I’ll help you clean then. I promise I’m not as useless at that as you probably assume I am.”

Carlos walks with him, but his steps are considerable slower now, stemming his weight against the direction of his apartment. “TK, I don’t think it’s a good idea.” Open Tag &

wip wednesday

it occurred to me that i am planning an olympics au and this is an olympic year (aka the perfect time to post one) so i have picked this story back up as i wrap up the you saw the truth in me sequel. here's a bit of that:

“It’s not you,” Marjan says quietly. She beckons him closer so she can whisper in his ear, then continues, “He’s not really talking to any of us. We’re not sure why.” “Oh,” TK says, unsure if that makes him feel better or not. “He looks great, at least.” He’s only been back in the gym for a few months, TK knows. The recovery was long and Carlos took some time off afterward, but no one would ever know that from how comfortable he already looks. His transitions are fluid, as if he’s moving through water as he does his skills, and his handstands are perfect. TK’s never seen anyone do them better. Marjan shrugs. “He’s practically lived here for the past couple weeks. Dude doesn’t know when to quit.” That doesn’t feel particularly strange – TK’s had his own fair share of injuries, and after his last one, a strained rotator cuff, he was itching to get back into the gym. The only thing that kept him away was the doctor’s warning that reinjury would put him out of training for much longer than a few weeks. He knew he’d have his work cut out for him once he was cleared. Marjan adjusts the strap on one of her grips and nods over to the bars. “Could you spot me?” He smiles and nods, and then lets her lead him over to the chalk bucket sitting a few feet away from the bars. She starts chalking up her grips, and TK turns, as if an invisible force is pulling his focus, back to the high bar, where Carlos is swinging once again.

From TK & Carlos's sisters, which finger's crossed is finished this week.

She gets the phone call in the middle of the weekly staff meeting. She almost sends it to voicemail, but there’s something that makes her gesture apologetically at her phone and get up to leave the conference room to answer it, and then she stands there, frozen, her hand still on the glass conference room door while she listens to her mother tell her that she’s on her way to the hospital, but Carlos is fine.

It takes effort to let go of the door and walk the ten steps to the couch in reception and sit down gracelessly while her mother tells her that Carlos had been kidnapped by a serial killer, drugged, and beaten, and overdosed with morphine, but he’s fine now. She claps a hand over her mouth to hold in the hysterical laugh that wants to come out, to hold in the urge to say, ‘I’m not dead yet,’ although she thinks that TK might find it funny. Well, maybe not now. Maybe in a year or so. Maybe it will never not be too soon.

“Let me talk to him,” she demands when she has herself under control.

“I can’t, mija, not yet. He’s in with the doctors and TK. As soon as they’re done, I’ll call you again, I promise.” She relaxes a tiny bit that TK is with him. He’ll be okay if TK is there.

“Promise me,” she insists.

“I promise, mija, I promise.”

It takes hours before Carlos calls her, and all the time has turned her worry into knives. She knows she should be gentle, but everything comes out sharp, and she knows it’s upsetting Carlos but she can’t find a way to stop. The phone fumbles, and then she has TK’s voice in her ear instead of Carlos’s. “Luisa, he’s okay, I promise.”

Friendly Fire

lol, okay so I’m using this as a double-fill. @noxsoulmate picked “bruises” from my BTHB card, and this is also filling the TWP Pride prompt of: AU where they meet playing in an lgbt sports league. This is my first time writing a meet-ugly, meet-cutes are kinda my thing. Also, I played fast and loose with the timeline.

TK sighs. “I don’t know, Paul. It sounds kind of awful.”

“What? Like you have other plans?”

TK scowls, tapping at his phone. He knew that in an attempt to meet people in his new hometown, Paul had found an LGBT sports league and signed up for a flag-football team. TK, on the other hand, had simply decided not to meet new people.

“Please. We just need someone to fill in for a few games until James gets back on their feet. If we don’t have enough people to play, we get disqualified. Please.”

“Yeah, okay. But you have to buy me a drink after,” TK relents.

Paul cheers, “There’s a boba place near the field! Anything you want!” He comes around the back of the sofa and leans in, clapping a hand on his shoulder. “And maybe you’ll meet someone while we’re there.”

“You’re not making this sound any better!” TK calls after him.

“I feel like I’m going to be awful at this,” TK mutters. Paul hands him a little elastic belt with some bright yellow flags drifting down from each side. TK watches as Paul clips on his own little belt and then grabs a football off the bench.

“Come on. Let’s throw a few before the game starts.”

TK rolls his eyes; tossing the ball around now won’t do anything except guarantee his arm will be too tired to throw later, but he acquiesces and follows his friend to the middle of the field, where other players are stretching and warming up. They take turns throwing the ball back and forth, trying to get into a rhythm before the game starts.

Paul throws one a little too hard, and TK curses, jogging backward, his hand raised, in an attempt to catch it. He hears a little commotion behind him, and his body slams into something solid- as does his elbow.

The football hits the ground next to him with a sad thump. TK whirls around and sees someone on the ground, his hand covering his face.

“Oh my god,” TK exclaims. “I am so, so sorry. Are you hurt?”

Paul jogs over. “Carlos, are you okay?”

“I- maybe?” Carlos pulls his hand away from his face and grimaces when he realizes it’s covered in blood.

“Here,” TK holds out his hand. Carlos takes TK’s hand in his clean one and allows TK to pull him off the ground. He makes his way to the bench with TK following a short distance behind. Paul hands him a towel, and he immediately puts it on his nose and groans as he tips his head back.

“Go find us some ice?” TK asks Paul. Paul nods and jogs away. TK slips a hand behind Carlos’ head. “Hey, keep your head up.”

“Huh?” Carlos grumbles and gives him a look but obeys and settles upright again.

“You’re not actually supposed to tip your- never mind.” TK is pretty sure Carlos is glaring at him, but it’s kind of hard to tell, with his face mostly covered. “Can I take a look?”

“Is that really such a good idea?” Carlos asks, but he pulls the towel away and drops his hands into his lap.

Carlos hisses as TK pokes at his face but otherwise stays silent. “It’s not broken,” TK says finally. “You’ll have a pretty nasty bruise, though.” He reaches for the towel, but Carlos snatches his hand away and brings the towel back to his face.

“Well, thank you, Doctor.”

“Uh, firefighter, actually,” TK murmurs. “But I’m dual-certified as a paramedic.”

Paul returns with a small bag of ice a few moments later, and TK takes it from him, attempting to place the bag on Carlos’ face.

“I’ve got it,” Carlos snaps, taking the bag from TK and holding it to his nose. “I think you’ve done enough.”

TK’s face heats up, and he steps back slowly, turning to Paul, “I should go. I really am sorry,” he adds, turning back to Carlos before walking off the field.

“Strand, you have a visitor,” Marjan calls. “He’s in here.”

TK looks up from his spot on the sofa and sees Carlos, in full APD uniform, trailing shortly behind.

“You taking after your dad and punching cops?” Mateo laughs.

“I didn’t know he was a cop!” TK hisses, “And I didn’t punch him.”

He jumps up and hurries over, pausing in front of Carlos. Even with Carlos’ swollen cheek and the bruise forming underneath his eye, he’s still the most handsome man TK has ever seen.

“I’m sorry about your face,” he blurts out.

“I’m sorry,” Carlos says simultaneously.

“Wait, what?” TK asks.

“I’m sorry,” Carlos repeats. “About yesterday.”

“Wait. I crashed into you, and you’re apologizing to me?”

Carlos chuckles and winces. “Yeah, I suppose I am. I was in pain, but that’s not an excuse to have snapped at you. You didn’t do it on purpose, and you were just trying to help.”

“This conversation isn’t going at all how I thought it would,” TK laughs.

“And you were right; nothing is broken. Just my ego is bruised.”

“And your face,” Paul teases.

“Right,” Carlos mutters. They stand in an awkward silence for a few moments before Carlos speaks up. “So, um, does Mr. Dual-Certified have a name?”

“TK. TK Strand,” he holds out his hand, and Carlos gives him a firm handshake.

“Well, TK Strand, maybe I’ll see you around?”

“Yeah, I’ll be…around.”

“Just maybe not on the football field?” Carlos says. “But, if you wanted to come to watch a football game… Paul could probably tell you when we’re playing next.”

TK grins bashfully and nods, “Sounds good; I’ll be there.”

“Great,” Carlos says goodbye to Paul and then turns to leave.

Paul nudges TK hard, and he stumbles forward. “Maybe afterward, I could buy you dinner or something? As an apology.”

“Yeah. Or maybe that could just be, like, a regular dinner, and we never bring this up again?” He says, gesturing to his face.

“Deal. It never happened.”

“Okay, see you there.”

Paul and TK watch, and Carlos gives a little wave as he exits the firehouse. TK turns to see Paul looking smug.

“I told you it was going to be awful,” TK says. “And it was.”

“And I told you that you were going to meet someone,” Paul points out.

“That doesn’t make it better! Wait, Paul… did you do this on purpose?”

Paul shakes his head and makes his way towards the staircase.

“Paul? Did you? Paul!” Paul just shrugs as TK follows him up the stairs.

thank you for the seven sentence sunday/wip wednesday tags from this past week @cold-blooded-jelly-doughnut @heartstringsduet @strandnreyes @carlos-tk @lemonlyman-dotcom @orchidscript @alrightbuckaroo @louis-ii-reyes-strand @carlos-in-glasses <33 i’ve been focused on my secret santa wip, so i’m going to follow in the footsteps of some others and share my most recently published fic balancing act instead until i have can share something new <33 here’s a bit from chapter 5:

“My abuela died when I was eight,” Carlos says quietly and it’s enough of an unexpected statement that TK pulls back enough to look his boyfriend in the eye. Carlos’ expression is soft with memory, even as he wipes under TK’s eyes with his thumbs. “It’s not the same, but it was the first time I remember feeling so…alone.”

TK’s heard bits and pieces of Carlos’ upbringing—of how isolated he felt, almost a decade younger than his sisters and feeling the deep-rooted shame of difference when girls in class didn’t pique his interest the way boys did. TK also remembers stories of Carlos’ grandmother; how she was the one to bring him into the kitchen, how she was the one to let him explore, and how that gave him the space to find his voice.

“I didn’t really understand what was going on when she got sick,” Carlos continues, staring down at their tangled fingers. “I didn’t understand any of it, the doctor’s visits or the specialists in Houston. But when we got that phone call that she was gone, my world kind of ended.

“It was my mom who promised me she’d always be with me. She said because so many people loved her, she’d get to live on forever and complain about how nobody could make her tea right.”

TK smiles at that, and squeezes Carlos’ hand.

“It’s the same with your mom,” Carlos tells him, eyes full of promise. “I know it, TK. And when it gets hard…I’m here, sweetheart. I always will be.”

I'm a hobby writer and mostly write (x Reader) FanFictions and Headcanons. But I am also working on my original story whenever I can, so that I’ll hopefully publish it as an actual book someday. My Ao3.
