TWSTECEMBER day 6: gingerbread

i had a cuter idea just no motivation…

𝐒𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐭𝐨 𝐱 𝐑𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐫 𝐁𝐚𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐂𝐡𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐦𝐚𝐬 𝐂𝐨𝐨𝐤𝐢𝐞𝐬

You were currently in the kitchen attempting to figure out how to perfectly execute the cookies you were going to make. You wanted to bake sugar cookies for Christmas but the problem was that you didn’t know how to bake from scratch.

You were frustrated and annoyed since you couldn’t find any tutorials anywhere on the sugar cookies you wanted to bake. You refreshed the page on your phone for the 3rd time and scrolled through the internet in search for the recipe. When you didn’t find one again, you groaned and nearly slammed your phone on the counter.

“Sweetness, is everything okay?”

You heard Sabito, your boyfriend ask and when you turned to him, you shook your head and exhaled.

“I can’t find a recipe for these sugar cookies anywhere! I’ve seen someone bake these before and wanted to replicate it but there’s no recipe anywhere.”

You said while pulling up a picture of the cookies and when you showed it to him, he smiled.

“I know how to bake them, my friend, Mokomo, always liked to bake and I’ve seen the recipe she used for this.”

“Really?! Can you help me then?”

“Of course I can, although I was wondering why you needed them.”

“Well I wanted to bake some Christmas cookies for us to eat while drinking hot chocolate and watching a Christmas movie!”

You said with a smile and he chuckled.

“That sure sounds fun, let’s get to work then.”

He searched through the ingredients you had laid out on the counter and grabbed a stick of butter. He threw the butter in the bowl along with some sugar, baking soda, and brown sugar. He let you mix and and then guided you through the other steps since he wanted you to learn it as well.

You listened to his instructions and followed them quickly and efficiently. He then told you how long to put them in the oven for and while you both waited for them to finish, you explained the frosting design you wanted to put on the cookies and he smiled. He loved hearing you talk about things that made you happy such as cute cats, baking, and snow.

He always adored that little twinkle in your eyes when you were happy, it made him happy. The oven rang and you put on your mitten before carefully taking out the cookies.

“They smell and look so good!”

You exclaimed before hugging Sabito.

“Thank you for showing me how to make them!”

He smiled and wrapped his arms around you and placed a kiss on your head.

“Of course, you know you can always come to me when you need help and I will always try to help.”

Once the cookies cooled down and you and Sabito decorated them, you both had a Christmas movie night while eating the cookies and drinking hot chocolate.

Common in Arctic and Subarctic regions of Europe and North America as well as in cold, mountainous regions of Asia and central Europe, the Rock Ptarmigan is a terrestrial bird that inhabits snowy tundras and mountainsides where it lives alone or in small flocks and feeds on leaves, seeds, buds, fruits and small invertebrates. In order to avoid predation (chiefly by larger birds such as Golden Eagles) they rely heavily on camouflage, and to facilitate this their plumage changes dramatically with the season: during the spring their feathers are largely brown or grey to allow them to blend in with rocks and grass, but as winter approaches they develop a thicker coat of white feathers that makes them difficult to distinguish from the snow around them. Males of this species (such as the individual pictured above) can be distinguished from females thanks to the fleshy red “combs” above their eyes which can be extended upwards to ward off rivals intruding on their territories. During the spring mating season, the eye combs may also be used as part of a dramatic courtship display in which several males gather together and simultaneously compete for the attention of nearby females by extending their combs, stretching out their tail feathers, flapping their wings, bobbing their heads and producing a deep, croaky call.
