rwby has a side character later in the series who's pretty explicitly plural and i think he's really well done i adore him. standard disclaimer that rwby can be a bit of a slog in the first few seasons due to lower production value but i think they're still fun and have a lot of charm to them (they're also the shortest of the seasons w episodes only 10 minutes a piece usually) and even if ur not vibing with them at first i highly highly recommend rwby in general and think it's super fucking worth it to get into

and then ik you said you dont do comics but if manga is ok i highly recommend tsubasa reservoir chronicle just in general bc it's literally my favorite manga of all time but also syaoran has some plural adjacent shit happening also later in the series. just do NOT watch the anime except for the ovas once you're far enough into the series for them bc the anime was so unbelievably fucking dogshit

and gerrrr rwby . i think thats very cool of them but man i dont think i could ever get into it even if i made a good attempt. ive tried numerous times across the years to give a shot but i think i just gotta accept its not at all for me. the storytelling and art style just kinda dont mesh w me. cool fightscenes though even if im not a guy who cares for flashy fights u gotta give them credit there

From reading your tumblr, I get the feeling you are a bit too attached to RWBY. Sure it's a bad show, and I enjoy ragging on it for being a complete failure in writing on every conceivable level, but you seem to get physically angry at the show's failings. It's just not worth the effort. If you want to make fun of it, then go ahead. But the way I see it, no sense in getting worked up over a badly-written webtoon. Just accept it and move on. Just some friendly advice.

 I shouldn’t have to explain myself to a rando but I find talking about rwby fascinating in all honesty, I enjoy having deep conversations about it’s flaws with friends and occasionally going into its world and lore on my post.

 What I get angry at is when a Stan gets actually worked up and upset over my opinions or jokes, do you people actually think I expect RT to pay me on my behalf? If you genuinely get angry at that well those people just come out looking silly when their nitpicks and rebuttals fall to “you’re an idiot for wanting to be paid.” Trust me guys I know you watch RWBY and the characters dont think but you guys dont have to emulate them, I’m not expecting a check in the mail.

 I hate snobby attitudes, people who come up and try to pick fights over a cartoon, Who act high and mighty or try to state that this is some secret plan the writers are cooking up and you just have to be patient; you wanna do me a favor? Talk to these people and get them to not engage with the criticism tag.

 If I genuinely hated rwby? I wouldn’t dedicate time into trying to fix it, Draw OC’s with friends, (this is my faunus maiden I made with most of the discord back in the day. I drew her cause I just thought of her and missed her.)

 I wouldn’t engage them in conversation about it, do I have certain aspects about the canon? Absolutely! I wont support RT in fact I stopped watching vol 6 all the information I get is from friends. My reaction post, made from my present reactions and thoughts do not reflect me wholly as a person.  I think we’re all more nuanced than that and I wouldn’t get to understand rwby fans thoughts if I didn’t bother trying to get to know some, I just like many don't like jackasses.

Think of it this way, you can enjoy junk food but still dislike when it’s prepared poorly, I like rwby to a degree, but regardless of what you or anyone says I will ralf at how they handled and STILL are trying to handle racism and I think I’m within my right to express it.

 In the end I think I’ll still talk about rwby with friends, dispense critique if needed, and do what I enjoy, cause I genuinely think the flaws and writing are fascinating and if that really upsets you I’ll tell you what I tell everyone to kindly block me and move on.

RWBY V3E2: New Challengers

Maybe people love the girls in rwby more because thats what attracted the audience? Like rwby is a show that has powerful female leads that dont exist to be there just for a guy, theyre independent and good on their own, thats what attracted most people, cause its so rare to see, and theyre afraid that it will go on another route and focus on the guys (like Jaune) when we already have hundreads of shows with powerful male leads but like just a few with well written female leads

Hey, sorry for not getting to this right away - college started kicking my butt, and I wanted to actually sit and think about how to respond to this one.

I’m assuming that this is in response to what I said here, about noticing that people favor the female characters over the male. I also said that I really did not want to go poking at the fire ant hill, but you seem polite, so I feel it’s only fair that I give you a proper answer.

DISCLAIMER: These are my opinions. This is my personal response to the points you bring. I might be wrong. That’s fine. All I ask is that if you wish to continue this discussion, please be polite. 

I see absolutely nothing wrong with preferring the female characters. This is a show with an almost entirely female main cast, and that’s wonderful considering how rarely you see that outside of Barbie movies and magical girl type shows, and even more rarely do you see that in an action show. I also appreciate that they aren’t sidekicks, or characters created off a male hero *cough cough Superfriend’s Hawkgirl cough cough*. I’m not saying that I think people shouldn’t like the girls more. It’s only natural to do so since they are the main characters. They are the characters that are given the most focus, so you naturally grow more attached to them then, say, Team SSSN, who we’ve only seen in its entirety, like, twice.

However, what does get on my nerves is when the love for these characters and/or the infatuation of the idea of an all-female cast leads to the demonization of male characters over issues that are arguably not issues.

I’m going to use Jaune as my illustrating point, since he seems to be the most glaring example of what I’m talking about. You have brought up that people seem to be afraid that he’s going to steal the spotlight - become the hero of the story and push Team RWBY into the background. However, there is just absolutely no evidence for this happening, especially in the last two volumes. In Volume 1, where we got four episodes about him in a 16 episode volume, this would be a valid concern. Since then, however, Jaune has been given less and less screen-time, showing that the writers are aware of the audience’s response to giving Jaune a fourth of a very short first volume and are doing their best not to stumble into that pitfall again. Outside of that, Jaune himself is an indicator that he is never going to have the spotlight in that manner again.

Jaune’s entire character is about realizing that he is not the hero. In any other anime/TV show/movie, the plucky inexperienced underdog would sneak into a prestigious school and suddenly find that they are somehow a natural and just as good or better than the people that have years of training. This did not happen with Jaune. He struggled. He was weak. He demonstrated that he very clearly does not belong among the elite. He had to go to Pyrrha and learn from her how to even start to begin to be able to fight off even one Ursa. And while he grows over the first 3 volumes, he never even comes close to the level of his classmates. He can hold his own for a few seconds against a rival school, but that’s about it. Very often, Jaune acts as the damsel in distress for Pyrrha or someone else to save. In Pyrrha and Jaune’s relationship, Pyrrha was very much the hero.

After Pyrrha died, Jaune did not suddenly take up her mantle and become the hero. He hung back from the opening fight of V4, staying out of the way of the people that actually knew what they were doing and helping the only way he could - by trying to strategize based on his wider perspective on the fight. He was not the hero. When he gained his semblance in V5, it was not some ultra-powerful shonen-style OP attack that turned Cinder to dust. It was healing, aura-boosting, which let Weiss rejoin the fight and kick butt herself. As any RPG player knows, this ability makes Jaune a support character, not a fighter. AKA, not a hero.

Jaune’s arc so far has been about learning that he is never going to be the kind of hero he wanted to be. His role is to be the support of the others, to be their stepping stone. Like he himself says, “If I die buying them time, then it’s worth it. They’re the ones that matter.” Jaune is never going to be the hero. He is never going to be the one to triumph. His role is to support, to help the people that matter get to where they need to be for them to win.

This, for me, is clear to see and makes sense. However, over and over and over again, I see people ripping apart his character as someone that acts like the knight in shining armor - that swooped in to save the day by healing Weiss, and to me, these criticisms just feel unwarranted when the payoff to Jaune’s semblance is learning that he is never going to be that knight in shining armor. From a narrative standpoint, this is as clear an indication as we are ever going to get that Jaune is never going to be a hero. He will be an extremely important side character, but RWBY will never be about him. The story line and his character have never given any indication that it could ever possibly be.

Tl;dr, there is no evidence that RWBY is suddenly going to deviate from Ruby, Weiss, Blake, and Yang to focus on Jaune. Jaune’s entire character is meant to be a supporting one. This isn’t to say he doesn’t have his own arc, but in the end, he’s just going to be helping RWBY and Ozcar and Co. with their stories. 

His character and the FNDM’s response to him is a perfect illustration of my opinion on the matter. Jaune’s character, at this point in time, shows absolutely no signs of suddenly taking the spotlight away from Team RWBY, yet the FNDM likes to twist scenes and evidence to make his character something it’s not so they can complain about him being a bad character. He is not a bad character. He is a well-written character in my opinion. 

The reason people are so desperate to twist him into a character he is not is because he is, in fact, male. Not because he is a poorly written character, not because he takes time away from developing the main cast, but because he is male. If Jaune were the exact same character but female, we would most likely not be having this discussion. It is because Jaune is a male character that people twist him into being this horrific character, and that is not right. 

You see this assassination of character with Sun and Ozpin (to a lesser extent), too. If I didn’t watch the show and went off the fandom, I would think that Sun was just some ignorant stalker that Blake despises. This is not true. If I didn’t watch the show, I would probably think Ozpin was this Machiavellian schemer that threw children into a war that he couldn’t be bothered to end himself. This is not true.

TL;DR2:What I dislike is not people loving the female characters over the male. What I dislike is people hating male characters, not because they are actually bad characters, but because they have been twisted by fandom interpretation to look like bad characters solely because they are male characters, because for some reason I am unable to comprehend, this fandom seems so threatened at the idea of developed male characters that they twist them into entirely different characters so that they feel justified in their hatred of said male characters. 

I’m not sure how comprehensible this is. It’s starting to get late on my end, so if my logic just falls apart somewhere in here, I apologize. Once again, this is solely my opinion on the issue. You can have your own thoughts, and those are completely valid. I would be completely open to continuing this discussion with you (or anyone else who wants to jump in).

I actually do BHNA...not a big persona fan. I know a friend once tried to get me into it. But its whole style and how its played out...I dunno. I am just not...invested into it...I kinda lump it into the fate/stay night category and Jo Jo. Long things that I really need to be invested into but I...dont see the point.. I keep finding myself go into the pokemon starters or birds sets and video games in general. Anime...if its bishonan sports anime I never watched it (( EXCEPT THE SUMO ONE BECAUSE BOI THAT INTERESTS ME IN BODY TYPES))  I do a lot of research for what is popular at the time. Or what can I afford to make a piece out of. Because I am spending 7 hours or so on it. I have to make sure that its worth my time and energy.  I know from the research that Fruits basket is going up again. And then One punch man is also a thing. Along with mob psycho. (both anime isn’t something I watched either) Promised neverland is always a good thing. But I am running into the fact that its a good gem. But will it sell. I ran into this when I first did Ancient magus bride when it came out...and hardly anyone watched it. But that was with the audience catching up to it finally. I managed to sell charms of it this time around.  Steven universe is always a good stand by. I did a cup head print. Overwatch too is a good one. Because everyone loves a good shirtless guy. And a buxom boobie girl.  Picking out a print to do is an investment and its one thing I love about cons Because I get to do marketing research.

6/1/18 Spent morning with mom at Kohls, nice time just wished it hadnt prempted my intended plans. Looking forward to Sophie and Marks wedding, tomorrow. 6/2/18 The rain fell, but the spirits wern't dampened as Sophie and Mark tied the knot, beautiful venue. Great party, only wished they'd played my song choice before i left though. Not sure if they had showed my video either. At least I got things squared away with Lisa. 6/3/18 Dad's problem with Casinos becomes more and more apparent. Just wished he possibly wasnt doing this intentionally to rile up Mom. 6/4/18 Well, my eye was giving me issues all day, and the store had more of them. 6/5/18 Well, my vest vansihed on me and i panicked for nearly 2 hours until I saw it balled up inbetween crack on reciving desk. Got to be careful where i see that thing. 6/6/18 Andrew grows clingier by the day. No Connor around really must aliviate his bordeom about being a burnout. Also peeved about RWBY Volume 5 Blu-Ray being produced so crappily. Not a fan of Rush Jobs, see Solo A Star Wars Story for Rush Job example. 6/7/18 Schedule at the store now really getting pressed with issues. But in terms of secrecy. Began DuoLingo application Hoping Tick can help me with cover letter as he did with Dad. Worst NBA Finals Ever. 6/9/18 Quiet saturday, helped them with garden, then spent day painting shelving units. Material though may not support paints. 6/10/18 Ive seen only bits and pieces of the original FLCL, but even then you can tell the visuals and sound outplayed the story. But FLCL Progressive ups the game, and yet still seems lacking. Maybe the girl with the Cat earphones, has something to do with it. But will see the other 4 episodes to make sure. 6/11/18 Welcome surprise came today with early digital release of one of my favorite shows of last year Sakura Quest. Only the first half of the show mind you, but yoshi and company still had some great moments in this part. 6/12/18 Trump somehow ups himself when it comes to doing what we consider, career killing. Today its his meeting with Randall Park in Singapore. Somehow all the hype once again dilutes his realities. Better at making nice with our worst than being respectable with our best. Like the e3 shows i watched today as well (Yay Fortnite and SSB Ultimate) Im cautiosly optomistic. 6/13/18 On a day when i was set to work on stuff my mind was on two things, 1 how Doug Walker aka Nostalgia Critic managed to defy the odds and not sink that Channel Awesome company. and, that racoon in St. Paul climbing that building with an audience that size. I surly wouldn't be climbing that high. 6/14/18 Andy, Grandma and that loser of our president all came into existence today. At least Gramps classic story about the flags of flag day all being thier to welcome her to our country still rings proudly today. Although that just makes me wish I had known my other Gramps. 6/15/18 Incredibles 2, it may have been 14 years later, but this was well worth the wait. Holly Hunter and Sarah Vowell were the easy standouts once again. Really glad this came out this year instead of that Toy Story 4 nonsense. Also Fortnite on Switch, not that great a start, Andrew seemed more taken to it, especially when he officially got his hands on my Switch. Hoping to get better. 6/16/18 The washer finally gave out, they grabbed a new one while i retuned outside for a shift in the heat pushing carts. The guy helping out though, Josh seemes miffed nealry every time im outside. 6/17/18 Dad's day, loving the new washer even though its top loading, not loving all this rain coming with it. Watched Andrew seem to master the switch controls and get really good, really quick. Not sure what to do or invest in second dock station so i can rotate between the two tv's. 6/18/18 More work on DuoLingo and moved around nearly all my movie posters, Yay Ant Man and the Wasp. Wish the other 20 items i had on ebay were selling like my other stuff. 6/19/18 Trump, i thoughtd id seen it all, this just seems inhumane by his standards. Glorified concentration camps. Securing borders may be imperative but losing our humanity to do it makes me wonder what we've become in 18 months of him. The midterms cant get here sooner. 6/20/18 Pickup today, somehow an additional 6 hours doesnt make up for stuff that i need to get done. 6/21/18 Always a good day when packages addressed to me show up. But 5 at once, yay me. 6/22/18 Connor's 18th and me forgot a gift. Also dont like Friday trucks. 6/23/18 Quiet at the store, more so in the back. 6/24/18 Jurassic World does make an impressive sequel. Baffling Logic though but it is visually neat. 6/25/18 Not Much for today. Trump sucks the usual stuff. Hat for all star game showed up though, yay me. 6/26/18 First of 3 before wedding, and last in the back for 3 weeks. Really love doing time lapse shots with Ipad, though theft risk is high up on the list. 6/27/18 Doing carts from 2-11 is no picnic. and somehow Gabe is back. 6/28/18 Hot day with it being hotter tomorrow, that boat better be worth boiling over. 6/29/18 Watched Troy and Sarah W. get married on a boat. Very hot day, worse with having to help Grandma getting around Waupaca and Amherst. It was enjoyable being out on the lake. Not so much, having to constantly refuse sleeping in the same bed as your parents and grandmother. Im 30, people dont do that at age 30 ill gladly take the floor. 6/30/18 Unforutantley due to Grandmas night episode, our 2 day excursion just turned into a measley 28 Hours. Ambrosia does look nicer than i pictured. But we just absolutely could not stand the heat at all.

Is Remnant even worth saving? What Yang have to gain by putting her life on the line again? These are two questions and I have more but there's just so much lacking about the stakes in RWBY that I would have this motherfucker on two pages trying to get it all out how hollow it all feels at the end of the day.

Remnant is hollow

Well i wouldnt say Remnant is beyond redemption or that they shouldnt try to save the world they kinda need it to survive after all. But i have as you wondered why. Or more specifically why should i care? As you have said it all feels hollow, we dont know why stopping the bad guys is neccesary other than Bad Things Will Happen. We dont even know what the bad guys plan to do yet, but armed with the knowledge that the Writers watched Sword art Online its probably going to be something which sounds deep but is really just Manure covered in glitter.  

Not to mention that Remnant just kind of seem like a shoddy place to live in overall? We have been shown way more negatives than positives. The police is slow and easy to trick, racism seem to be culturally accepted to the level where the perpetrator feels no social pressure from harassing someone in a public space, half of the populations douches seem to be cultivated from the Atlas people who have influence and power.This is often used in works aimed at a teenage audience, the world is a terrible place and only our protagonists see their societies for what they truly are! The aforementioned societies show no signs of trying to work on their issues themselves and change is only brought by a single person or a small group of persons.Everything is also really really bland, there is no personality to any of the places and people we meet. In Episode 1 of this volume(4) in we are told that the giant golem had caused the villagers distress and that they are relieved that Team Rnjr got rid of it. But we are only allowed to see the after effects. The fight wouldve had a lot more tension if i had seen the villagers situations before hunting down the golem. Just make our heroes arrive in a village, individualize villagers, present the problem, our heroes tries to fix it, catharisis. Instead you just have no idea who these people are, i hope things work out for you random village npcs!!!!This is a contrast to Avatar: The last airbender where i STILL remember not only the conflicts but the people involved in them. They made the world feel alive because they were alive. Most tried to shape a better future with what they had at the moment even with the circumstances surronding them and that made me feel that the world could be saved and was worth saving. Meanwhile when Vale fell i should have felt sad, we spent 3 volumes here it should have left some impact on me,,, but i didnt. I felt nothing. I had nothing and no one  to associate with Vale. Its literally just this blob of npcs and a couple of same looking grey buildings. If i dont care about the people living in your world then i will lose interest in the world itself. 

Yang 

Yang would probably join in order to get Ruby out of danger, but i dont really see what she would gain by joining the Big Fight against Salem and her goons. Maybe meeting up with Raven? But since Raven isnt allied with Salem Yang could technically hunt her down without getting involved in the grand scheme of things. A revenge story to hunt down Adam may work but the writers seem to want to avoid exploring interesting emotions that can give some juicy character development/regression. But she wont really “gain” anything from that other than, again, interesting character dev/regr. What she would gain is psychological satisfaction or / and her sister back.There isnt any other rewards, no one knows salem even exist or what she is going to do so or what affect it would have on the world. Theres alot of I Dont Knows in our lives right now. I probably feel like this because the end goal (defeating Salem i would assume?) dont actually help our main characters accomplish their goals. 

Which i dont fault them for, in stories the characters goals usually dont line up perfectly with the end goal. BUT you gather your cast on the journey before shit hits the fan when the conflict looks pretty simple (Beneficial for character). Then you add the doomsday villain, the cast sees the chaos created by it the affects of it usually helpless villages or things that they hold dear (Emotionally invested). Its too late to turn back the character is now a part of the conflict (Survival).Because asking someone to go fight the Ancient Grimm mother who also is in control of a widespread terrorist organization and that you need to hunt down some random ass girls and relics for the sake of the world is absolutley ridicilous.
