How did the model react to Roman retaliating against his parents? How did he handle that?
Circe loved it, though didn't openly show her joy when Roman fought back. The two had been having a secret relationship for years right under the noses of his parents, back when Circe was old enough to begin work as a model and Roman still a young teenager smitten with the first positive attention somebody gave him. She held Roman back from beating his parents to a bloody pulp, knowing that being convicted of murder would result in him being heavily punished by the law therefore losing Janus Comestics since his parents were still the owners of the company.
It wasn't out of love or concern for Mr and Mrs. Sionis. Circe been working on wrapping Roman around her little finger for years, knowing his parents would one day replace her with a younger, fresher star once her looks began to fade. Beauty doesn't last forever and, in the world of fashion, there are always beautiful women to be found much like one would find plenty of fish in the sea. She loved the money and fame, the ease of her work in only needing to look beautiful to keep a healthy paycheck coming in.
She knew it wouldn't last forever, but it could last longer perhaps, if Roman took over Janus Cosmetics and she became his partner.
Circe pretended she was remorseful after the incident, that she'd end the relationship with their son once she had seen him out. Unable to bear losing their top model just yet, Mr. and Mrs. Sionis bought her lies and it was all Circe needed to enact the next stage of her plan. Roman hated his parents, she'd known for years but that night, his willingness to acquiesce to her words was the sign she needed to know he'd go to any lengths to please her and concocted a plan with him the morning after.
The next night, the family home of the Sionis's burned down with his parents somehow having become trapped in the blaze. Smoke inhalation was thought to be the cause of their deaths, although their bodies had been burned too badly by the fire for pathologists to tell for certain. Circe provided Roman with an alibi and, although he had not been officially named as heir, ownership of Janus Cosmetics fell to him anyway due to being next of kin, a legal process that would be finalized by the time he was 18.
Circe was very pleased with how everything had turned out, and while perhaps it happened a little sooner than she'd have liked, everything went according to plan, at least for a few more years until trouble hit Janus Cosmetics.

General Black Mask Background
Heyyy howdy! I realized after the romance hcs I probably needed to do something a little more comprehensive for the background of Mr. Roman Sionis. But I needed to add some... finishing touches. A lot of this is inspired from his original comic origin, but I definitely moved things around and got creative
TW: Parental abuse and neglect, self harm, body horror-ish
Roman Sionis was born to the Janus Cosmetics magnate Charles Sionis and his wife Cynthia. Neither of them particularly wanted a child, but knew the importance of carrying on a family line. Plus, the Wayne's had pushed out their own little brat, so perhaps they could get an in for finances through the kids- it's that kind of family.
From an early age, Roman became obsessed with the "masks" people put on for one another. Makeup, social standing, political backstabbing- so many different masks people wear for different reasons. Growing up around models and That Industry made him rather embittered about beauty for the sake of beauty. Pretty to look at, ultimately just fades until you slap on more concealer.
This all leads to a mask collection that he keeps to this very day.
None of his situation was helped by the fact that his parents made it really obvious they didn't care much for him. He was an odd child, prone to violent outbursts and explosive tantrums. yet no matter how loud he would yell, what he would break- his parents would merely ignore him and replace what had been broken as if it never happened. Once he "accidentally" broke his arm. Private doctors ushered around him, but he never saw a look of affection or concern from either of his parents.
It was when he tried to follow into their footsteps that they showed their true cruelty. Always picking and prodding and pulling. In their minds, it was all to make him a tougher man. To be as ruthless as they figured you needed to be to make it in a business like this. Instead, it only furthered his resentment towards them.
Yet he as he got older, he learned to wear a mask of his own. One of the perfect son and successor to Janus Cosmetics. That all began to fall apart as he met and fell in love with Circe, the newest model and face for Janus. She was beautiful, spirited and, most importantly, she saw Roman as a person rather than the son of the CEO. At least, that's what Roman told himself.
His parents forbid their relationship. Told him he was a fool for thinking she would ever genuinely love someone like him. Inferior, hot-headed- Obviously she was just after his money. They wouldn't ALLOW him to ruin the business on some fling.
the fire that burned down the Sionis mansion with Charles and Cynthia inside occurred shortly after this fight. Roman was conveniently with his lover that night at her apartment. The fortune was theirs. To show some sense of decorum and "care", Roman had their caskets made of a unique new material- a type of fancy black ebony wood with fire durability. Housed them in the family mausoleum.
So he took over the business. Janus Cosmetics was an old company- traditional and known for it's loyal fan base. When Roman decided to put out new and edgy lines dedicated to a flashy and modern audience... It failed. He tried again. And failed. Several ideas, new marketing. His parents were right about one thing: he wasn't cut out for the cosmetics business.
Circe, who at one time did care for Roman, saw the signs on the wall. She had seen his true face, his anger and his rage. Although she could never prove it, she suspected his role in the murder of his parents. She was going to leave. Why stay if there isn't even money in it to make it worth it? Roman promised her he would fix all of this. And, most importantly, she would be the front line of a revolution in cosmetics.
Desperate for success, Roman turned to an experimental product line- a face cream that would supposedly take years off it's users. "Pheonix Revilitizing Face Potion" was projected to bring the company back from the brink. So much so, when a potential delay reached it's ugly head, Sionis rushed through testing to get the product on the market. The results were disastrous.
Roman was hounded by the press. His stocks were in the tank. Circe moved out and refused to be seen in public after her skin broke out in painful boils that defied medical treatment. The tissue around her nose and chin began to wear away when she tried to use more cream in hopes it would clear up. Roman was going to be put to trial for his role in the gross negligence of the company.
To pay for lawyers to save their asses, the company was sold from under Roman's feet by his shareholders. To Wayne Corps. To Bruce Wayne, who represented everything Roman wanted but couldn't have. He hated Bruce Wayne. Bruce merely felt sorry for a man who was set up for failure from the moment he was born.
...Roman thought up a plan. It required that he no longer wear his own face, for his face was too recognizable. The ebony from his father's casket would make a perfect mask. Roman had always liked knives and whittling. Carving. He looked upon the rotted bones of his father as he cut into the casket lid. Molded. Shaped. A perfect skull mask that fit over the entirety of his head. A Death's Face for whomever thought to cross... The Black Mask.
He gathered a crew. A theatrical bunch with a love for costumes and lots and lots of money. Morality was rather thrown out the window for a good score. Circe, who could no longer make funds of her own due to the severe damage her face received from the face cream, joined in half-heartedly. For a time, she thought she could find her own happiness if it was with Roman.
But he was a changed man. His anger fueled him. He took out each of the shareholders who fucked him over, one by one. Some had their faces slashed. Some were beaten to death. The ones Roman had once trusted were given a concentrated dose of the face cream and forced to let it sit until their flesh sloughed off in chunks.
His final stop was Bruce Wayne. He decided he was gonna crash that poor little rich boys Halloween party. That... ended about as well as you'd expect. When Batman arrived to the party, Black Masks crew was quickly eliminated non-lethally one-by-one. Circe left Roman to suffer the consequences of his own actions. Seeing no way out, Black Mask set fire to the Wayne mansion.
Batman managed to save Roman Sionis, but he had been in the flames too long. He had third degree burns on his hands and back that would have to be debrided and treated for months. The mask, made of a fire-proof material, instead of burning away, seared into the skin and structure of his face. Doctors debated back and forth on removal, eventually settling that it would most likely kill him.
Roman didn't mind. This is his face now.

Okay, talking about a coup in the Carribean *and torture! Lovely!*
...so a literal newborn is to serve his father's sentence... *purely because he's a boy?! And his father was named in the coup?!* Given the torture, there's every chance that he wasn't involved the victim was just saying names!
Basically raised in prison and went lowkey mad in solitary confinement and after a coma. Almost like traumatic brain injuries have a chance of completely changing someone's personality -.-
...god damn, Bane sure improved! That's kinda terrifying
And now he has an obsession with Batman. This can only go badly

Well original Black Mask was definitely a domestic abuser, funfact his abuse of Circe inspired Joker's abuse of Alicia Hunt in Tim Burton's Batman, he wasn't defined by "I love hurting women."
I also miss his mask wearing and False Facers cult, would be nice to see the latter appear in an adaptation at least.
Thats interesting, I dont think I've ever seen that movie so I hadn't made the connection. I havent seen really any if the live action batman films except for the recent The Batman, though I know I should...
Hes got his masks and all but there's no real... thematic importance? Occasionally you'll get the odd 'Roman Sionis is the mask' comment but as far as anything we don't get to see any weird identity philosophy. The idea of him trying and failing to escape the 'weakness' of who he sees as Roman Sionis isn't really relevant post debut, but I wish we'd be able to see more stuff like that. Like, 'Roman' as a symbol represents 'weakness and ineptitude', the constant failure to live up to both his family's and his own ideas of success, but he also constantly loses as Black Mask. He is still a loser, still impulsive and immature and hot headed and unlucky, no matter what mask he wears. No amount of disavowing his younger self will change that, he's just burning up what little good he had. Also, for a guy who hates his parents so much, he really, really wants to live up to their standards.
Maybe hes just not self aware enough to think about it.
Also, you didn't make me uncomfortable at all, I just thought it was a strange coincidence, hehe.

Bat v Bat, part 2 (part 1 here)
Circe!Kate is implacable and a force of nature and with a mask like Mike Myers its almost like she's a supernatural force too.
(I've no doubt by the end of the season Ryan will be equal to Kate in terms of fighting. Especially, if Circe!Kate's mental state will breakdown as inner!Kate will fight to come back to herself).
But right now, Kate is dominant fighter but Ryan is a scrappy fighter and she was true to her word: Angelique and Ocean were able to get away because Kate couldn't get through her.

On Roman Sionis, believe it or not, him being a misogynist and torturer is a recent invention from the Catwoman mini series. Beforehand, he was a gimmicky villain like Ventrioliquist or riddler.
I believe it, through the misogyny stuff isn't as out of nowhere given what he did to his ex-fiance Circe. Im not a fan of the misogynistic torturer aspect, especially with how... fetishy it all is most of the time. The 'fight' against Stephanie was traumatizing to read.
I've got thoughts about how weirdly muddled any themes for him are but ill have to think harder about it. The thing is, I like some of Roman's appearances, and I like his complicated relationship w Penguin and I even think his fighting w Catwoman can be fun, but it feels like there's something core missing.. The random additions to his very basic abilities (being able to tank most hits + great at beating people up hand to hand), from his psychic stuff to his face stealing, kinda betrays that writers don't know what they want for him either, I think.
I do think his more recent catwoman appearances do touch on something I like, though, with his utter rejection of how things 'just aren't done'. He rejects the pomp and circumstance of typical crime family stuff and as such cuts his own legs out from under him in the long term, but he's still able to succeed off of that rejection in the short term by 'shaking stuff up'. He's passionate and short sighted and ridiculous, and I think that makes for a fun character. Also, he got dragged behind a motorcycle and was pretty ok afterward, which is funny to me. They should just have him do more slapstick.

Next time you're doing headcanons, how 'bout some ZsaszMask as parents? Pretty please?
Abso-fucking-lutely (these have been sitting in my drafts for weeks I'm so sorry 😣). I'll be doing some for BoP and some for Batwoman because damn it, CW Zsasz is great and I need to see more of him. Here we go:
Birds of Prey! Zsaszmask as parents
•Contrary to what people would think, Victor is the slightly more responsible parent. He is better at staying calm while corralling a child than Roman is. He also tends to focus more on the consequences of his kid's actions than on his own feelings about those actions.
•Make no mistake, one or both of these men will at some point show up to a crime scene with a child in tow. Sure, they won't let the kid see the more brutal bits, but that child will still be present. Getting a sitter is hard, okay?
•Roman shows immense self-control in not treating his child like a personal dress-up doll, because his own mother did that to him and he fucking hated it. The closest he allows himself to get to that with his own kid is to take them shopping and help build a wardrobe around what they pick.
•Neither of them are very strict disciplinarians, mostly just 'cause they wouldn't know what to do. Roman yells and does the whole "go to your room" shtick, but he doesn't insult the kid. If they do something dangerous and scare him he might call them stupid, but apologize after. He can be childish the way he can with other adults, but his kid is the only other person he is sincerely remorseful toward besides Victor. Victor tends to talk things out with the kid more, and is generally harder to make angry.
•Victor is his kid's main bodyguard when they're out and about. There will sometimes be other bodyguards who look after them, but Victor does it as often as he can. He's more comfortable being the one looking out for them.
•If his kid ever asks about his scars, Victor will tell them that each one was a person whose soul he "freed" when he killed them. Hearing about his scars becomes one of their favorite pastimes.
•Reading bedtime stories to his kid slowly grows on Roman. At first he feels awkward doing it, but after a while, it becomes a nice way to wind down at the end of the day when he's tired.
CW! Zsaszmask as parents
•These two are significantly more prepared for being parents than their Birds of Prey counterparts, Roman more so than Victor.
•Roman wasn't entirely sold on being a dad before Circe was born, but once he had her, he was smitten. He didn't always get to spend as much time with her as he wanted, but he was glad for any quality time they got.
•Roman is the type to make lunches and leave little notes for his kid to take to school. He did it all the time with Circe. He can cook pretty well, but he's so busy that it becomes more personal when he takes the time to make something for his kid.
•Victor is more of the cool stepdad type, better at showing the kid a fun time than enforcing the rules or dealing with a meltdown. He can get frustrated sometimes, but he doesn't yell at the kid unless they do something dangerous. He's good at figuring out when to be comforting and when to leave the kid to their own devices for a while.
•Roman is the type to let his kid practice makeup on him and call it "quality control". He can do theirs for them too if the want it.
