It's February!! Welcome back to another week of ficrecs. A mix of post-confession therapy, poetry, and glorious AU this week. (I thought I'd not read much because this week has been, quite frankly, a bastard, but apparently this was a lie!)

maybe i like pleasure pain by tothewillofthepeople (@kvothes). After the perfect darkness of the Empty, Cas finds the world a little…overwhelming. Dean tries to help. Post 15x18, Cas is both touch starved and touch sensitive, and the sensory overload of the world can be a bit too much. He craves Dean's touch, but resists asking for it. A really beautifully written, metaphor laden examination of chronic pain, disability, trauma and the physicality of the body and nebulous presence of mind. All wrapped up in an abundance of love and devotion. Absolutely gorgeous.

Prayer to a False God by K_A_Mindin (@katerinaalianovamindin, art by @gaytedlasso for @spnbangbang) It’s been two years stuck in the Empty, where the Shadow showed him his worst mistakes over and over again. Then he's brought back, to Jack and to Dean, and silence continues to rein, the unspoken acknowledgement of the confession lingering in the air...until Cas decides he needs to stop letting silence rule. Alongside the emotional pull of this thread, the D/S dynamics which grant Dean the permission to speak his truths, through prayer, and through physical release, are a joy to behold.

i like your shoelaces (thanks! i stole them from the president) by @you-cant-spell-subtext-without is a brilliantly funny take on Misha's "Dean is a custodian in a fast food restaurant. Castiel is the President of the United States" fic prompt from a convention, told through the narrative hook of a Cinderella story. Delightfully tongue in cheek, and laugh out loud, this is currently a wip but a must read to bring joy to your inbox each update.

FROTUS by kathscradle takes the very same prompt but approaches it in a very well executed slowburn that says ok but seriously what if? My favourite thing about this fic is the importance of family, Cas being the widowed single parent of Jack and Claire, and Dean stepping up in his new role as step-Dad. Add in the slowburn relationship unfolding through long distance hyper-monitored correspondence, and all the national security matters at hand, this longfic gave my The West Wing/Scandal/Destiel brain a great big hug.

birthday candles by rhinestoneangels (almondrose/@pinknatural) is a super cute, ever so charming Dean's birthday ficlet in which Castiel's sister Anna drags him to a birthday party for a friend of hers who he has never met. He googles what to bring to a birthday party and settles on baking cookies...one fire later and fortunately, the firefighter who shows up to save Castiel from himself is very dreamy, and what a coincidence! It's his birthday, too….

I've also fallen down a rabbit warren of destiel and spn poetry, and I really really love this one by @whatladybird and this one by @eyelinerdean, @donestiel's incredible poetry gif edit series and I'm very excited to keep reading more on the @spnpoetryrenaissance blog. Has anyone seen a 2024 prompt list? Asking for reasons.

It’s 2021. Dean Winchester wakes up from 20 years in a coma after taking a bullet into the head on a case gone wrong. 9/11 happened almost 20 years ago, the world is on fire, the Cubs won the World Series five years ago, and Bon Jovi put out 6 albums since “It’s my Life”. Dean’s baby daughter just turned 21, his brother married an incredible woman and has two kids he doesn’t know, and his boyfriend... Well, Cas is still by his side, but there’s stuff he’s keeping from Dean.

Of course, this would be enough to fill Dean’s plate if he didn’t also have to figure out who put a bullet into his head, 20 years back.

Author’s note: I know I said I would take some time off once "Glory Hallelujah" was finished, but I stopped writing for 2 months straight and then my mind started wiring.

This story has been hugely inspired by a French tv show that started to air in 2013 and finished in 2016. Though I took some storylines and aspects from the show, there also are some stuff I changed or flat-out created for this story. If you're interested in watching the series, it's called "Falco" and is probably available to watch with English subtitles somewhere (though it's one of the small numbers of tv shows that completely tore me apart and made me cry like a baby when it ended).

Going from there, if you do enough research, you'll probably find out that (spoilers) Falco dies at the end of the show. That's one of the things I didn't want, so rest easy: Dean isn't going anywhere in this story.

Contrary to pretty much all of my previous stories, I don't have a fix schedule for this, and a weekly, fixed update day is very unlikely. I'll try to update at least once every two or three weeks, but you guys know I'll get to the finish line anyway.

Don't you know that Dean Winchester is a literal actual siren, and that by simply speaking words into existence, Sam and Cas are forced to do his bidding??? He declared himself dictator and instantly the whole world bowed down before him. The President of the United States resigned from his post. DEAN controls the real interest rates now and dictates the terms of world peace. Castiel got chained to him like Leia was chained to Jabba the Hutt, complete with the sexy costume. Sam has been forced to shave his head and dress in sack cloth. He must toil away in the kitchen serving Dean feasts. If anything displeases him, Dean smashes glasses on the floor from his throne. Sam and Cas both weep, and then Dean asks "Why aren't you smiling???" and then they are both forced to dance a little jig for him or perish. Sam's hands are bleeding as we speak from all the meal prep. You would dare. You would dare deny the realities of all of this???

supernatural s12e8 lotus (w. eugenie ross-leming, brad buckner)

i wanted to revisit that little lucifer!vince meltdown in 12x07 because i thought maybe i was too high to parse what was happening or something. i definitely misunderstood something, but the emotional content still doesn't make sense to me. anyway, details about partial confusion resolution

i didn't think anything was gonna top the leviathans in most loathed (but more in a boring way) villain but british men of letters are bringing the eye rolling heat.

CROWLEY Lucifer's not content with slutting it from one random vessel to the next. He's moving on to blue chips—celebrities, captains of industry. He just got a lot more dangerous. CASTIEL I agree with Agent Zappa. DEAN Oh, will you stop?

i laughed but like, it'd be more fun if cas was trying to rile him up instead of being in clueless robot mode. feels like we get a different cas every episode

there is something amusing about crossing this trope of the catholic church getting infiltrated by the devil and they try to exorcise him with the spn universe where lucifer and exorcism is all a very different kind of beast.

and now he's in the president, of course. they really have defanged lucifer. now he's getting the cartoon villain treatment too. mark played him on this edge of charisma and creepy and ... actually scary, in a way that he felt like a real, solid threat. who had done awful, awful things to our sam specifically, that left him deeply traumatized. anyway, it's not just switching actors, but this story they're wedging him into.

swift kick to the gut while i'm sitting here musing on a president leading a morning prayer that this aired in december 2016.

i also had a visceral hate of the rape references/"jokes" lucifer repeatedly made to sam (were they all hallucifer? imagine so) this makes ZERO sense. and also, what the fuck, is this a sitcom? oh the literal devil is feeling offkilter because he's just had sex for the first time teehee aww. WHAT

SAM Crowley, can we just get the damn news without the drama? CROWLEY Can I get you without the flannel? No. Still, I endure.

look at me not overreacting about sam sneaking off to make an aborted phone call and trying to hide it. why the fuck is he calling the bad mol people though...???

having serious dick roman flashbacks with this lucifer plotline.

CASTIEL There's been a massive surge in celestial energy. A Nephilim is come into being. It's the offspring of an angel and a human. DEAN And that's big news? CASTIEL Yes, but the power to produce this is immense. It's much, much greater than a typical angel. SAM Lucifer. DEAN W— Lucifer? I didn't know he was dating.

again, are we in a sitcom? tone of the episode is really not meshing with the jokes they're going for, for me. is this gonna be the nephilim i've heard of?

SAM Do we have a plan? DEAN Impeach LOTUS and find Rosemary's Baby.

oh, silly me. i was thinking lotus the car brand, thought the episode might have some car-slant. lucifer of the united states 🥴

seeing them clearly in the car, outside, makes me realize just how much of the driving shown is at night (for production reasons, obviously)

required hair appreciation note. maybe i had to slog through some truly atrocious haircuts/styles and sideburns to fully appreciate getting here

god. i have such a kneejerk queasy reaction to take five by dave brubeck. my brief stint (during a really Bad Time in my life) at university i would kill time between classes at a place near this cd shop on campus. they played take five over and over and over and over. it's a great piece of music but it still immediately throws me back into this really miserable headspace.

that said, i do think it was used well in this scene. and that was a really good little action sequence, nice tight pacing. sam and dean's reaction to the explosion was really good and it felt like they were right there (and magically baby did not get damaged by the explosion right in her face). cas standing in front of it, unbothered, cliche but still fun. but then fucko had to start talking and i mentally checked out.

coulda had fucko drive up in a lotus but no, bentley 😔 probably harder to obtain a lotus in whatever, vancouver

hurray sam's furtive phone call to bad people already addressed in the same episode.

introducing all sorts of goofy ass weapons. sure, why not

is there a snappy name for this team-up?

great. surely she's gonna want to keep the lucifer!baby then

the magical egg scene went on way too long. i guess it was supposed to be high stakes zapping lucifer back to the cage but god it's just all so not.

i really love how crowley's teleportation is silent, no vfx other than cutting so he's just gone. it's surprisingly effective. anyway, kind of hoping they can work out their problems. good pair

the whole dean being somewhat in awe that they got lucifer felt... i dunno. like ok so is this when we find out he didn't actually end up in the cage?

uh. why are dean and sam there just hanging out with the president? and getting arrested? what. great. my fave.

davina through the series || season 12

not knowing that dean is still alive , davina comes back to the bunker after sam is shot and kidnapped by the BMOL. she waited until dean arrived , only to see that amara had brought mary winchester back from the dead. the two were introduced.

after castiel located where toni bevell had taken sam , davina tagged along to help rescue him. however, when they got to the old abandoned house , davina was forced to stay outside with castiel and mary due to it being also warded from witches. at least until mick davies powered down all the wardings.

when castiel warns sam and dean that lucifer had sired a nephilim , davina helps them in confronting kelly kline about the child. however, she quickly escapes with castiel and kelly kline when the president's secret service captures sam and dean . castiel though, teleports davina back to the bunker so she's safe .

for six weeks , while the brothers remained in solitary confinement in colorado , davina stayed at the bunker with castiel until they met up with mick davies and arthur ketch. even after that whole situation , mick davies approached her with an offer to work with them. davina declined , stating that she doesn't work for and with those she doesn't trust.

the job involving ramiel , one of the princes of hell turned that around . during the fight , davina was knocked unconscious by ramiel to only be woken up in the back of dean's car . the winchesters filled her in on what happened . it dawned on davina that maybe , just maybe she could use the spells that mick had offered her.

davina went with sam and mary to the BMOL station to talk to mick about his offer, as well as see what their operations were really like. though , still not trusting them at all , davina lowered her guard a bit and listened to their plans on taking out every supernatural creature in the united states. with the vampires starting to attack the BMOL compound , davina helped sam and mick make more bullets for the colt to take down the alpha.

after the death of mick davies , with ketch being in charge and ordered to kill all hunters , including the winchesters , davina was on that list . she was not long captured by ketch right after dean and sam left for a case that mick supposedly had sent them via email. when it was ketch who sent it.

it turned out to be all a trap so that ketch and his men could raid the bunker. and bug it. davina was brought to the BMOL compound and locked in a room until it was time for dr hess and the rest of the BMOL to head back to london.

before davina was to be taken there and killed , sam and a bunch of other hunters came and took down the compound. it was jody mills who freed davina from the room they held her in and the witch couldn't thank her enough.

when they found out where castiel and kelly were , davina went with mary and the boys to where they were staying. however , once they got there , davina was drawn to the energy coming from the rift that led to the apocalypse world .

when they angel and the boys went inside the rift, davina followed them , where she met that world's bobby singer. lucifer's arrival to the cabin was no surprise as they all knew he would eventually catch up. davina however , remained inside with mary and kelly , who was in labor after they left apocalypse world through the rift.

when jack was born , davina was knocked out along side of mary winchester . however, by the time she wakes up , jack is nowhere to be found and sam and dean are knocked out in his nursery.

I’m still not over Clara being gone and the Doctor forgetting her but “carolers will be criticised” is a very good sign for Twelve’s TARDIS to have

I know this guy will have a larger role next season, but…to me he’s just that one dude from bridesmaids

Interesting that River can’t recognize the Doctor. She spent all that time with Eleven but did recognize Ten almost immediately…but not Twelve??
