billy’s mom waking him up while it’s still dark, whispering even though neil’s working the night shift. it’s a couple days before his tenth birthday and she’s telling him they’re going to have their very own adventure, just like the ones in billy’s books. she grabs an already packed suitcase from under billy’s bed and kisses him on the nose, tells him to get dressed quick. the two of them leave in an old beat up yellow bug that she managed to get for a third of the asking price and keep parked around the corner until now. they stay with friends and jump from place to place so neil can’t track them down. billy gets used to surfing couches and staying in motels.

he spends his tenth birthday in a diner, his mom gets him a big stack of pancakes and a milkshake with extra cherries. gets a candle out her pocket along with her silver lighter. sings happy birthday and pulls a face when the waitress frowns at them, just to make billy laugh. she sips at her coffee while billy tucks in. smiles when he holds some out with a “c’mon mama, share with me.”

billy thinks it’s neat. thinks it’s the best birthday he’s ever had.

they eventually end up with a place in california, a little bungalow near the coast and billy grows up with his mom. billy gets pretty shirts from the thrift store ‘cause his mama lets him do stuff like that. doesn’t call him a queer, doesn’t force a baseball bat into his hands whilst yelling at him for crying, for being a pussy. his mom lets him read and keep a journal and press flowers between the pages of the neverending story, she plays hendrix and dusty springfield and laughs when billy comes home from his friends’ house with his first piercing at thirteen. she doesn’t tear down his posters or yell when she finds him using her eyeliner.

and everything’s perfect. sort of.

they have bad days- billy’s mom has bad days. billy calls them gray days ‘cause that’s how the world looks when she’s like this. all her color gone. no singing-dancing in the kitchen or baking five different kinds of cake because she couldn’t decide which one was best, no last minute trips to the beach or sitting outside at night and telling billy about the stars. instead she’ll stay in bed, won’t go to work. she’ll stare at the wall blankly and look right through billy when he tries to talk to her. she won’t take the pills the doc gave her and billy doesn’t know what to do. never knows what to do. just chews at his lip until it bleeds, bites at his thumb until it’s red raw. he’ll get in the bed with her. lay beside her and just talk like she used to do with him when he had a nightmare. hum a song to her.

billy’s still pissed at the world just slightly less so. still has that anger and anxiousness simmering just below the surface and shows his teeth when cornered. he’s still hardened in a way that a kid shouldn’t be but. it’s different. there’s no neil. the only bloody noses he gets are at school, when he fights with the kids who call him a fag and a fairy, call his mom a basket case. he uses fists when they laugh and ask if she’s all there with a finger pointing at their heads, ask if billy will “catch the crazy.”

those are billy’s bad days. sitting in the principals office, icing his knuckles.

when he’s fifteen, billy manages to bag a job at the local auto repair by turning up every day and telling howie how good he’d be, that he knows cars and it’s all he wants to do and please please please. eyebrows pulled together, eyes puppy dog wide and hands clasped in front of him until howie grumbles, throws an oily rag at billy. says fine but billy’s gotta pay for anything he damages. someone brings in a chevy camaro and billy asks howie to let him help fix it up. does the begging again until howie laughs. says get a hold of yourself, kid, voice fond as he ruffles billy’s hair.

billy’s four months away from turning seventeen when the doorbell goes. he’s eating a sandwich and watching knight rider. he’s wearing the necklace his mom got him for his last birthday and- he answers the door. doesn’t think twice. freezes when he sees neil standing there. he looks different. hair a little shorter and more wrinkles. where billy’s gained weight, gained muscle, neil’s lost it. his eyes are a little sunken and he’s still got his wedding band on. he reeks of booze. billy has to remind himself to speak, just says “yeah?” his voice comes out small and neil smiles at him. smiles and billy feels this weird twist in his stomach ‘cause .. that’s his dad and he hasn’t seen him in years and it twists and twists and-

turns out. not much has changed. billy realises a little too late that neil will always be neil. they run again. have to leave everything behind. billy doesn’t get to say bye to his friends, to howie, to the car. they leave a lot of stuff behind and head in any direction away from neil. they both try to keep the mood light, take turns driving and play the tapes billy grabbed. they end up in indiana- hawkins. they stay at a motel until billy’s mom finds a place for dirt cheap. it has two bedrooms and a dingy bathroom, a living room slash kitchen and one hell of a damp problem. it’s dirt cheap for a reason.

it’s above a shop in town and- it’s fine. their landlord is an asshole but they’re together and they’ve got a roof over their heads. billy’s enrolled at hawkins high and his mom gets a job at the laundromat. he tells her that he doesn’t need to go to school, that he could just work and help pay the bills but his mom won’t have any of it. says that she wishes she had finished school and that billy’s too clever to waste it. that he has potential.

billy knows the reason she dropped out of school was because she had him. he just nods, rests his head on her shoulder.

it’s billy’s first day at school and his mom drives him to make sure he actually goes. he gets out the car and tries to shake the nerves off. straightens up and puts on his act. plasters a fake smile on his face and it’s working, he’s got most of the girls swooning and the boys at least seem curious. billy looks around and his eyes land on a guy leaning up against a bmw. his hair’s coiffed to high heaven and he’s wearing a polo, preppy as fuck but- pretty. it’s one of the first things billy realises about him, all doe eyes and moles dotted just about everywhere. he’s got a smirk on his face. not aimed at billy but the guy beside him.

pretty-boy walks over to him and billy raises an eyebrow, plays it cool. he introduces himself as steve and billy gets the idea that he’s top dog at hawkins high, is immediately proved right when they step into the building. king steve, freckles calls him. billy laughs- catches steve looking at him when he does and feels his face get hot. steve just smiles wider, calls billy california and tells him to sit with them at lunch. billy tries to ignore the way steve’s smile makes him feel like the rug’s been pulled out from under his feet.

he nods and steve grins. tugs at one of billy’s curls.

says “i think you’re gonna like it here, california.”

Pairing: Bodyguard!Bucky Barnes x Castle!Reader

Warnings: violence. Language. Stalking. Smut (later on). Pettiness. Lies. Secrets.

Working for my father and uncles, has never been an easy task. When I get attacked one night, it sets them off. My father hires a security team he knows. I’m unwilling, till he steps off the plane.

Now it’s complicated and blurry. James Barnes is more than I bargained for. And far more is happening then my father bargained for. I can’t help myself, only I know nothing is easy, and my father isn’t one to be disobeyed.

Hell’s going to rain down, I’m not sure who is going to survive this time.

“Buck,” Steve falls into step with him “we need to talk.”

“About what?” He pushes the button for the elevator.

“Please tell me, I’m wrong. Tell me I’m seeing things wrong.” Steve sighs as they step on.

“Seeing what?” Buck leans against the wall.

“You and Y/N.”

Bucky swallows, adjusting his suit jacket.

“What do you mean?” He wonders.

“I see you, Buck. I’ve known you most of my life, you’re my brother. The way you are with her, it’s different.” He sighs.

He knew Steve wasn’t wrong, he’s different with her. Only he can’t stop it.

“We should be long gone at this point. She’s lied, two stepped, keeping secrets.” Steve points out.

“We aren’t going anywhere, Rogers.” Bucky straightens up quickly.

Steve watches him.

“She’s Frank Castle’s daughter, Buck.” Steve sighs.

Licking his lips, he nods. “I know.”

“Do you?” Steve asks in a stern tone. “You’re digging a hole, putting our company at risk, I’ll fight anyone for you Bucky, do anything you ask of me.” Steve runs a hand through his hair. “But you better damn well make sure it’s fucking worth it.” He mutters, before stalking off the elevator.

Was Y/N worth it? Did she even have an inkling towards him, like he has towards her? Was he making a mistake? He follows Steve lost in his own thoughts.

“Couldn’t be him. He doesn’t have the stones.” Billy waves his hand discarding a file on the table.

40 files and half through them, most discarded.

She collapses on the couch next to Peter, before turning and dropping back till her head rest in his lap. Feet in Howie’s lap. Peter plays with her hair, Howie’s free hand rest on her calf.

“Can we order food?” She huffs looking to her uncle’s.

“Text me what you want, I’ll go.” Clint gets up, tossing a file on the table. “I can’t focus sitting here.” He shrugs noticing the look Buck has.

“You’re the bestest Clint.” She sighs. Clint winks at her before he leaves the room. She sets about texting him her order.

“Oh let me add to that.” Peter takes her phone, adding to the text. Howie leans over practically lying on her.

“Me too.” He grins pointing to the screen.

Bucky shifts in his seat. Rubbing his hands down his thighs a few times. Refusing to be bothered by this. He didn’t have a reason to be bothered.

“You good?” Bec’s smirks at him, peeking over the file in hand.

“Fine.” He glares at her.

“He’s possible.” Frank throws a file down on the table, looking at Bucky.

“Grant?” Tony looks up.

“How much of a possible?” Bucky asks.

“Well,” Billy shrugs.

“You know,” Howie scratches the side of his head.

“I mean,” her mouth puckers.

“What the hell did your family do?” Sam laughs.

“Technically Grant started it.” Peter points out.

“What’s that mean?” Steve looks around.

“Means, Grant disrespected Y/N. She told him to get fucked.” Bucky sighs. She winks at him. “In turn Billy inflicted pain on him.” Billy smirks at Y/N. “And if Howie is involved that means he fucked someone close to Grant.” He rolls his eyes when Howie shrugs

“She came on to me, what was I to do?” He turns his hands up grinning, Y/N scoffs and Bec’s sighs.

“Okay so maybe Grant.” Tony nods.

“Get a run down and a file on him.” Bucky looks over at Sam. He nods as he picks up his phone.

“If Clint calls me Princess one more time, I’m going to let Howie fuck him.” She huffs loudly dragging a dirty look his way. Snatching up his phone he clicks on Clint’s name.

Barnes: keep it up and I’ll put you on stakeout with Sam till we solve this.

Clint replies quickly.

Barton: so it’s an only you call her princess thing. Got it

There’s a line of winking emoji’s that follow.

Barnes: that’s exactly it. Keep it up. Barton: no thanks I choose life.

He smirks setting is phone down. Looking over she’s smirking at him, before she turns back to her phone.

“What about,” Howie pauses for a moment.

“Who?” Tony looks over.

“Well I was just thinking,” Howie hands over a file.

“Oscorp.” Peter winces.

The whole room shifts, even Y/N flinches.

“Who’s that?” Steve looks around.

“Harry Osborn.” Frank sighs.

“His dad started and ran oscorp.” Tony explains “when his dad died, Harry couldn’t handle the company. The power went to his head.”

“He picked a fight he couldn’t win.” Peter admits.

“You took his company?” Sam lifts a brow.

“I bought a mass portion of his stocks, and than bailed out.” Tony speaks up. “I sank his worth.”

“Personally went to most of his clients and convinced them to jump ship.” Frank nods slowly.

“So you killed his company and picked it clean?” Bucky stares at them.

“A big fat zero. Nothing but what was left of his trust fund.” Tony pulls his glasses off, tossing them on the table.

Sam meets Bucky’s eye, a look of concern. Sam nods going back to his phone. That’s a real good reason to go after Y/N, a serious reason to come for her.

They didn’t talk much, he didn’t know what he should say. She didn’t seem to want to speak to him. As if she was annoyed with him for some reason. She’s been locked in her room for some time now.

He checks through the window, scanning the street. A door bangs open, she’s muttering, in panic.

“No, no, no, no.” She’s running into the living room.

“Y/N?” He moves towards her.

“My phone crashed!” She blurts out, her free hand practically covered in the sleeve of the massive hoodie she’s wearing. Pushing her hair back from her face.

“What?” His brow pulls in.

“Fuck!” She hurried past him, throwing open her door. She’s rushing out, when Bucky notices she doesn’t have pants on.

“Y/N! Get back here.” He hurried after her.

She doesn’t knock but throws open the door down the long hall.

“Help me!” She runs into the apartment. He darts in after her.

“Y/N.” He growls. Howie and Peter are unbothered by her.

“What did you do?” Peter laughs taking her phone.

“Surfing porn again?” Howie laughs, as she settles down on the couch with them.

“Shut up! No!” She elbows him.

“What we’re you doing?” Peter smirks at her.

“Reading.” She tucks hair behind her ear. “Just reading.” Playing with the strings on her hoodie.

“Naughty things.” Howie laughs.

“Is that why you don’t have pants on? Gross, don’t get my couch wet.” Peter attempts to shove her off the couch.

“Oh my god!” She shoves back. Howie is cackling holding up a blanket.

“God, do we need to get puppy pads to put down when you come over?”

“Just fix my phone you assholes!” She shouts turning bright red.

The jealousy he felt earlier gone as he watches.

“So what we’re you reading?” Howie grins.

“Nothing.” She scoffs.

“Bet they were on that positions website.” Peter laughs fucking with her phone.

“What?” Her head tips. “They?” She blinks.

Both brothers look from her to him. He chuckles softly, licking his lips, pulling his own phone out.

“I swear to god, I hate you both.” She mutters burying her face in her sleeve covered hands.

It’s a few minutes and Peter laughs loudly.

“Interesting reading choice sis!” He holds the phone out of her reach.

“Give it back Peter! You’re not funny!” She jerks for the phone, but Howie has the back of her hoodie keeping her down.

“Whatcha reading?” He laughs.

“Resisting Her Bodyguard, a forbidden romance novella.” Peter howls with laughter.

She gaps at them, suddenly getting up, she yanks her hoodie down and stalks out of the apartment letting the door bang against the wall.

“Oh come on!”

“It’s funny!”

They call after her.

Bucky chuckles taking the phone Peter has held out.

“You fuck our sister, and you know her dad will string you up, right?” Peter smirks at him.

“I know.” He smirks back.

“He just doesn’t care.” Howie grins.

“Have a good night boys.” Bucky calls leaving as well.

Back in her apartment he knocks on her bedroom door.

“Go away.” She calls.

“I will open this door, Princess.” He warns her.

“Ugh!” She stomps, ripping the door open. “What?” She refuses to look up.

“Your phone.” He holds it out to her.

Hesitantly she reaches for it. His free hand cups her chin, tipping it up so she looks up at him.

“You want me to beat your brothers up?” He smirks.

“Yes.” She pouts adorably.

Sure it wasn’t right, Frank told him, no. He could lose everything. Risk his life.

He drops his head, crashing his lips into hers.

Sheldon Riley wows judges with a Eurovision cover on US TV

Australian singer Sheldon Riley has received a standing ovation from Simon Cowell for his performance of Loreen’s Eurovision track on America’s Got Talent.

The queer Sydney performer has showed off his amazing voice on multiple TV talent shows. Among them are the grand final of the Eurovision Song Contest in Italy in 2022.

In 2020, the 24-year-old singer first performed on America’s Got Talent.

Now Sheldon has returned to Los Angeles to compete in the new series America’s Got Talent: Fantasy League.

The all-stars spinoff gives former AGT finalists and fan favourites a second chance at a win.

Invited back by Simon Cowell and mentored by Mel B, this week Sheldon performed Loreen’s 2023 Eurovision-winning song Tattoo.

He got a standing ovation from judges Simon Cowell, Mel B, Heidi Klum and Howie Mandel. He’s made it through to the semi-final.

After Sheldon’s performance, Howie Mandel said he was “blown away”.

Heidi Klum told him, “You look gorgeous. You did a very beautiful rendition of that song. You nailed it. I loved it.”

Simon Cowell also said he was thrilled to have Sheldon return to AGT because he believes the singer has “unfinished business”.

“Your voice is so distinct and you’re a proper, what I would call, frontman singer,” Simon said.

“So congratulations and welcome back.”

Sheldon Riley reflects on first AGT stint in 2020

On the show, Sheldon met with Mel B and flashed back to his successful first audition in 2020.

That season, the singer took to the stage silently before performing a Billie Eilish song.

Sheldon recalled the warm response he got from the judges was so “validating” after a long personal struggle with self-acceptance.

“I’ve always had a passion for music and performing but I hated the way that I look,” he said.

“This whole concept of the mask happened. I would mask my face so I’d still be able to do what I love to do.”

Unfortunately, the pandemic closed borders and meant Sheldon had to perform remotely from Australia. He missed out on a semi-final spot that season.

“It was heartbreaking because I was on such a roll,” he said.

“I felt like I was finding myself through this show and it just halted.”

Sheldon said it was an honour to return to the show and bring Loreen’s winning Eurovision song to the US audience.

“I wanted to bring some Eurovision magic and show a side to me, the performer and creative, that I’ve kept concealed,” he said.
