Mean Ellen DeGeneres: the 'be kind' girl wasn't kind

Mean Ellen DeGeneres: the 'be kind' girl wasn't kind
Tumblr media
Ellen DeGeneres premiered a new stand-up routine in West Hollywood on Wednesday including some business about how mean she is.
The former Ellen DeGeneres Show host told the audience she was “kicked out of show businesses” not once but twice.
“There’s no mean people in show business. The ‘be kind’ girl wasn’t kind.
“I became this one-dimensional character who gave stuff away and danced up steps. Do you know how hard it is to dance up steps? Would a mean person dance up steps? Had I ended my show by saying, ‘Go f*ck yourself,’ people would’ve been pleasantly surprised.”
Ellen DeGeneres reminded the audience that 2020 was not her first experience of being booted from TV
In the late 90s, she came out as gay a year before the cancellation of her sitcom Ellen. Opinion differs on whether her coming out led to the cancellation – or perhaps, the more serious tome adopted by the show after she came out.
But no argument which corner Elen is in.
“Eventually, they’re going to kick me out for a third time because I’m mean, old, and gay.”
Degeneres experienced her second fall from grace in 2020 when employees accused her of leading a toxic workplace.
She referred briefly to that episode on Wednesday.
“I’m giving stuff away … and I danced, then I was mean, and they didn’t like me again.”
Had enough yet?
The Ellen Degeneres show finally announces end date.
Former employees respond to Ellen DeGeneres ending her talk show.
Ellen DeGeneres gives on-air apology addressing allegations.

Homophobe Andrew Tate on what makes you gay
New Post has been published on https://qnews.com.au/homophobe-andrew-tate-on-what-makes-you-gay/
Homophobe Andrew Tate on what makes you gay
Renowned homophobe and self-proclaimed misogynist Andrew Tate has defined gay sex in a manner which will confuse both those who thought they were gay and those who thought they were not.
Because…
…according to Andrew Tate….
Gay sex is having sex with a woman…
…and enjoying it.
Andrew Tate
Former kickboxer and misogynistic social media personality Andrew Tate faces charges along with his brother for rape, sexual trafficking, sexual assault and exploiting women in Romania and the United Kingdom.
A Romanian court ruled on Friday that Tate’s trial can begin but without setting a date.
So Tate busied himself making ridiculous comments. Why not? He’s made millions doing the same in the past.
Andrew Tate posted to X that sex is solely for procreation. Any man who has sex with women for pleasure is gay, he proclaimed.
“Sex is for making children. Any man who has sex with women because it ‘feels good’ is gay. Oh my pee pee feels good this is great!
“In fact if you are 40 with less than 5 children you’re probably gay. All that feel-good pee pee sex and hardly any genetic legacy?”
Funny thing is – Tate has no kids himself. Is the man serious or just trolling the sad incels that follow him and send him money?
‘Small dick energy’ Tate arrested for human trafficking.

Teen terror accused already charged with gay bashings

Teen terror accused already charged with gay bashings
Tumblr media
Some of the teenage boys arrested this week in Sydney by the NSW Joint Counter Terrorism Team were already before the courts for allegedly assaulting gay men.
Additionally, one of the boy’s mobile devices allegedly contained a video “advocating violence towards homosexual men.”
The boys were arrested as part of a group of five teenagers who police allege were associates of the 16-year-old boy who was held down by parishioners and then arrested by police over the stabbing of Bishop Mar Mari Emmanuel on April 15.
Police allege that they found extremist material on some of the boy’s phones. They charged two with “conspiring to engage in any act in preparation for, or planning, a terrorist act”.
Several already before courts on assault charges against gay men
The Daily Telegraph reports that several were already before the courts on assault charges against gay men.
The identities of those victims have not been made public, nor how they came to cross paths with the accused.
Police are now examining those assault cases to see if they were “religiously motivated” in nature.
The video advocating violence towards homosexual persons was allegedly found on the phone of a 14-year-old boy. The ABC reports there were also videos of people being run over. However, it is unclear whether he was one of the boys charged over the assaults.
The 14-year-old has been granted conditional bail. He will remain in custody until the court can hear an appeal by the prosecutor against his release.
If released on bail, the boy will be restricted from using mobile phones, computers and gaming consoles and will have to see a psychologist.
The 14-year-old is not one of the two boys who have been charged with “conspiring to engage in any act in preparation for, or planning, a terrorist act.”

Actress Sophia Bush comes out, confirms relationship
New Post has been published on https://qnews.com.au/actress-sophia-bush-comes-out-relationship-ashlyn-harris/
Actress Sophia Bush comes out, confirms relationship
Tumblr media
Sophia Bush has come out as queer and confirmed her relationship with retired football player Ashlyn Harris (both above).
The One Tree Hill and Chicago P.D. actress said she “hates the notion of having to come out in 2024″.
But Sophia explained she understands the importance of standing proud in your identity “in a year when we’re seeing the most aggressive attacks on the LGBTQ+ community in modern history.”
Sophia opened up about her sexuality in a personal essay for Glamour Magazine.
“I finally feel like I can breathe, I don’t think I can explain how profound that is,” she wrote.
“I think I’ve always known that my sexuality exists on a spectrum. Right now I think the word that best defines it is queer. I can’t say it without smiling, actually. And that feels pretty great.”
Sophia Bus and Ashlyn Harris finally go official
In August 2023, Sophia divorced husband Grant Hughes after a year of marriage. In her essay, she squashed rumours she and Ashlyn were having an affair before Ashlyn also left her partner Ali Krieger last year.
“It took me 41 years to get here,” Sophia wrote.
“When I take stock of the last few years, I can tell you that I have never operated out of more integrity in my life.
“I hope that’s clear enough for everyone speculating out there, while being as gentle as I possibly can be.”
Sophia said she first met Harris in 2019, but they became close friends last year after their respective splits.
“Maybe it was all fated. Maybe it really is a version of invisible string theory. I don’t really know,” she wrote.
“But I do know that for a sparkly moment I felt like maybe the universe had been conspiring for me.
“That feeling is one I’ll hold on to no matter where things go from here.”
Sophia Bush also shared her mother’s response to a family friend who called her and said, “Well, this can’t be true. I mean, your daughter isn’t gay.”
“My mom felt that it was obvious, from the way her friend emphasised the word, that she meant it judgmentally,” Bush wrote.
“And you know what my mom said? ‘Oh honey, I think she’s pretty gay. And she’s happy.’”

Aussie OnlyFans star the Girthmaster's huge income goes viral
New Post has been published on https://qnews.com.au/aussie-onlyfans-star-the-girthmasters-huge-payday-goes-viral/
Aussie OnlyFans star the Girthmaster's huge income goes viral
Tumblr media
Australian OnlyFans creator The Girthmaster has suddenly gone global after a simple TikTok video received more than 100 million views.
The Girthmaster is 30 years old, is 6’7″ tall and has an “eight-inch-long, seven-inch-circumferenced penis” according to his bio.
It all started when The Girthmasterr (whose online handle has two Rs at the end, very important) discussed his career in a man-on-the-street TikTok that’s received millions of views.
Speaking on the streets of Brisbane, the ridiculously tall sex worker shared he rakes in anywhere from $40,000 to $80,000 per month from his adult content, which he films with women and by himself for OnlyFans.
The Girthmaster added the huge payday doesn’t come without hard work, explaining his online career requires anything from 60 to 80 hours per week of work, including marketing and editing.
80K a month on OF?! Damn 👏🏽 pic.twitter.com/sjPvmnlrmG
— Carlos (@closalvarado) April 21, 2024
Hundreds of millions watch The Girthmaster
In the original TikTok, commenters immediately identified him by his online handle.
The Girthmaster’s TikTok video also made the jump to Twitter X, with one post alone racking up more than 100 million views on the video.
Thousands of new followers flocked to the Aussie star and this week Rolling Stone and The Daily Beast scored interviews with him.
From the interviews, we now know the Girthmaster’s origin story. When he was 18, the “digital exhibitionist” posted a nude selfie on Tumblr for “a bit of rush”. It went viral and after that he realised just how “out of the ordinary” he was.
The Girthmaster kept posting anonymously online until a female partner suggested he start an OnlyFans.
“Before this, I did a whole bunch of random jobs, like any entry level job,” he said.
“I did customer service in an office for a year. I was a handyman, a landscaper, a baggage handler, a pizza boy, worked in grocery stores, food service, clothing, retail… any and every entry level job.
“A lot of them are kinda like porn storyline jobs too, like the pizza boy, the landscaper, things like that.”
He said he was just expected to earn a bit of “beer money” but it “just snowballed” and now he’s saving some of his earnings to buy his mum a house. Aww.
‘People want to see if I can live up to my name’
The Girthmaster explained his OnlyFans moniker was inspired by the KitchenAid Mix Master.
“Funnily enough, that name now actually does me a lot of favors in marketing, because it really stands out,” he told Rolling Stone.
“People see it and they kind of want to investigate to see if I can actually live up to the claim or not.”

Pet Shop Boys planning first Australian tour in years
New Post has been published on https://qnews.com.au/pet-shop-boys-plan-first-australian-tour-in-a-decade/
Pet Shop Boys planning first Australian tour in years
Tumblr media
British music icons the Pet Shop Boys have shared that they’re planning an Australia tour – hopefully – for next year.
Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe went on The Project to talk about new album Nonetheless, their 15th studio album, out today.
Neil said, “We’re planning to do a tour in Australia. I think maybe next year.”
But he quickly added, ‘What I should say is we’re in discussion about coming to Australia next year.”
The Pet Shop Boys have been touring their Dreamworld: The Greatest Hits Live tour around Europe.
The concert was also filmed and released in cinemas globally – including Australia – earlier in the year.
Neil and Chris haven’t performed in Australia since 2014. They performed a pair of shows at Carriageworks during that year’s Vivid Sydney event.
Their last full-scale tour was in 1994. The boys returned for a festival in 2007 and a Sydney New Year’s Eve show in 2011.
The @petshopboys may be international superstars, but they still have time for Aussie TV, and they tell us why they love Ja’Mie from Summer Heights High. pic.twitter.com/JZsWY4bLxh
— The Project (@theprojecttv) April 25, 2024
Pet Shop Boys on Troye Sivan and All of Us Strangers
Elsewhere in the interview, the Pet Shop Boys also gave a big shoutout to Aussie singer-songwriter Troye Sivan.
“I really like his album [Something To Give Each Other],” Neil told The Project.
“Last year, it was the pop album I listened to most.”
The boys also gave their thoughts on two high-profile projects that have used their music recently.
Andrew Haigh’s tearjerking All of Us Strangers and Emerald Fennell’s wild Saltburn both use Pet Shop Boys songs in pivotal scenes.
“There’s a sort of tradition with us – which these two films aren’t in, happily – where a director will want to use It’s A Sin to establish you’re in a gay club in America in the late 80s. It’s a bit corny, that, and reductive maybe.
“In Saltburn, they sing Rent and it’s part of the plot.
“In All Of Us Strangers, [Andrew Scott’s character] is with his family. It’s Christmas 1987 and Always On My Mind is number one and we’re even on the television in the scene.
“It’s an incredible moment of togetherness for them, and it’s a great use of the two songs in both films.”
Neil also said All of Us Strangers director Andrew Haigh would direct their next music video.
“The visuals on that are going to be incredible,” he said.
Pet Shop Boys’ new album Nonetheless
Pet Shop Boys’ new album Nonetheless follows their 2020 album, Hotspot. The new record is the boys’ first after returning to their ‘80s-era label Parlophone.
“We wanted this album to be a celebration of the unique and diverse emotions that make us human,” Neil and Chris explain.
“From the more dance-orientated tracks to the raw poignancy of the introspective ballads, with their beautiful string arrangements, each track tells a story and contributes to the overall narrative of the album.”
“It was great to work with James Ford, who we think has brought new elements to our music.
“James has dared to make us a bit more minimal at times and the final result is a record we’re very proud of.”

The celeb that made Mel Buttle realise she was gay
New Post has been published on https://qnews.com.au/the-celeb-that-made-mel-buttle-realise-she-was-gay/
The celeb that made Mel Buttle realise she was gay
Tumblr media
Each month we ask Queensland entertainers to spill the tea about themselves, their craft and the local scene. This month it’s national comedy star Mel Buttle who reveals how she got into comedy, who made her realise she was gay and what her first-ever gay bar was.
Mel was born and raised in Brisbane and is a regular on Australian radio and TV. She has appeared in I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! Australia, The Great Australian Bake Off and recently co-hosted ABC’s Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras coverage.
Growing up in Samford, Brisbane was….
Pretty cool, if you liked playing in the creek and setting things on fire, which, surprise I did, very much. I would now kill to live out there on acreage, but as a teenager, I thought it was boring and too far away from my friends who all lived somewhere cool in the inner city. Now, I realise it’s the lesbian dream to live on a big block and grow your own veggies.
I got into comedy because…
I was a high school drama teacher, and I was always into watching the Melbourne International Comedy Festival Gala and one day I saw a flyer for a short comedy course and gave it a go. Then, I got bitten by the bug and wanted to chase the high of performing all the time. Also, sleeping in was a huge factor in my decision. I’m no good before Dr Phil’s been on.
Being a teacher taught me…
That I’m not all that interesting.
I knew I could make a career out of comedy when…
You think I can? Gosh, I’m still surprised when the phone rings.

The best gig I did was…
In regional NSW. The whole town came, the mayor gave us a tour of the beetroot farm and we had dinner at the RSL. The gig was in the school basketball court and it went off.
The worst audience I had was…
A football club luncheon, I wasn’t experienced enough and should’ve said no.
The most famous person I’ve met is…
Hmm that’s subjective, but Matt Lucas from Little Britain was up there.
My dream gig is…
Breakfast radio and some tele show where I cook food with chefs in my pyjamas.
I knew I was a lesbian when…
I had impure thoughts about Nigella Lawson.
My first gay bar was…
Sporties in The Valley for Karaoke!
My celebrity crush is…
Hayley Raso from the Matildas, she’s a babe.
youtube
Becoming a parent is…
Doing wonders for my ability to multitask, I can now make a curry, play monster trucks and book in swimming lessons.
The inspiration behind my character Lyn is…
Every mum I’ve ever met lives in Lyn.
The joke that got me into the most trouble was…
About my pubes and Julia Gillard.
What people don’t appreciate about Brisbane is…
No one gives a shit about being fancy.
The best thing about doing comedy in regional Australia is…
The pub feeds and the yarns afterwards with the locals, my gosh the best jokes I’ve ever heard that I can’t repeat here.

Josh Cavallo would 'fear for life' at World Cup in Saudi Arabia
New Post has been published on https://qnews.com.au/josh-cavallo-would-fear-for-life-at-world-cup-in-saudi-arabia/
Josh Cavallo would 'fear for life' at World Cup in Saudi Arabia
Tumblr media
Footballer Josh Cavallo has revealed he would not compete in the 2034 World Cup in Saudi Arabia if selected, due to the country’s anti-gay laws.
It is illegal to be gay in Saudi Arabia, punishable by the death penalty.
“I honestly wouldn’t feel safe,” Cavallo told The Mirror.
“There’s certain countries I will not go to and play my club football or play with the national team.
“At the end of the day, it comes to a point where it’s your livelihood over your job which for me is incredibly sad because this is what I do, I wake up and I breathe football, this is what I’m made for.
“To know that I’m limited and stuck in certain countries because they don’t approve of how I love or how I live my life is quite saddening. I wouldn’t want to be entering a space like that at the moment. There’s a lot of improvement that needs to happen before I consider that.”
Cavallo calls for LGBTQIA+ support from wider football community
Cavallo went on to say that he wanted more support for LGBTQIA+ rights from the wider international football community.
“Everyone tends to ask me ‘how can we grow football’,” he said. “In the A-Leagues we created a Pride round and that’s something which changed the way that Australians look at football.”
“Not a lot of people overseas are doing the same thing. For me, it’s not just one day that we celebrate, it’s something we consistently think of. It affects people. Clubs should turn around and support LGBT+ people.
“I know for a fact that there’s professional soccer players who aren’t out and are playing at the highest levels too.
“If we had clubs who say ‘hey actually having the World Cup in Saudi Arabia isn’t right let’s do something to raise awareness and have our voice on it’.
“If Liverpool’s turning around and saying ‘this is not acceptable’, if big clubs like Barcelona are saying something like that, then that’s going to turn heads.
“If I’m going to the World Cup [in 2034], I’m fearing for my life more than the dream I wanted to do as a kid and play in a World Cup. It’s quite frightening.”

Billie Eilish on embracing her sexuality: 'I wanted my face in a vagina'

Billie Eilish on embracing her sexuality: 'I wanted my face in a vagina'
Tumblr media
In an interview with Rolling Stone, Billie Eilish has opened up about her sexuality, talking about the sapphic inspiration behind her latest album.
In the interview, she opened up about her new song Lunch.
“That song was actually part of what helped me become who I am, to be real,” Eilish said.
“I wrote some of it before even doing anything with a girl, and then wrote the rest after.
“I’ve been in love with girls for my whole life, but I just didn’t understand — until, last year, I wanted my face in a vagina.”
However, Billie Eilish also mentioned that she “was never planning on talking about” her sexuality.
Addressing an incident at the end of 2023 when she was asked about it on a red carpet.
“Thanks Variety for my award and for also outing me on a red carpet. I like boys and girls. Leave me alone about it, please. Literally who cares,” she wrote about the red carpet interview at the time.
“The whole world suddenly decided who I was, and I didn’t get to say anything or control any of it. Nobody should be pressured into being one thing or the other, and I think that there’s a lot of wanting labels all over the place,” Eilish said.
“Dude, I’ve known people that don’t know their sexuality, or feel comfortable with it, until they’re in their forties, fifties, sixties.
“I think it’s really unfair, the way that the internet bullies you into talking about who you are and what you are.”
“I know everybody’s been thinking this about me for years and years, but I’m only figuring out myself now,” she said.
“And honestly, what I said was funny, because I really was just saying what they’ve all been saying.”

The prize is supplied through The Palette Fund, a private foundation “dedicated to breaking down barriers and advancing social change in communities that are under-resourced and facing significant challenges”.
So, without further ado, the returning queens for “All Stars” Season 9 are:

This Atlanta-based queen won two main challenges during her season — including the challenge in which she coined her catch phrase, “you ug-aly bitch” — en route to the finale, where she tied for third. She’s playing for the National Black Justice Collective, “America’s leading national civil rights organization dedicated to the empowerment of Black lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer+ and same gender loving (LGBTQ+/SGL) people, including people living with HIV/AIDS,” according to a release.

She’s also starred in “RuPaul’s Drag Race Live.” She’s playing for The Asian American Foundation, which was created “in response to the rise in anti-Asian hate and to address the long-standing underinvestment in Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander communities.”

2024 Pride in Sport Awards
New Post has been published on https://qnews.com.au/2024-pride-in-sport-awards/
2024 Pride in Sport Awards
Tumblr media
The Pride in Sport Awards saw a range of organisations and individuals named as the country’s most LGBTQ+ inclusive in Melbourne last night.
Honorees included Macquarie University Sport, Hockey Australia, NBL, Touch Football Australia as well as Tennis Australia.
The Awards are dedicated to acknowledging exceptional efforts in making Australian sport more inclusive of LGBTQ+ people. Australia’s largest LGBTQ+ health organisation, ACON, spearheads the not-for-profit program.
The Pride in Sport Awards also recognise supportive allies across various sporting disciplines.
Pride in Sport Index
The awards showcase the results of the Pride in Sport Index (PSI) – an instrument used to measure LGBTQ+ inclusion.
Co-founder of the PSI, Andrew Purchas OAM, congratulated the award winners.
“The Pride in Sport Awards contribute to the continuous efforts to create more inclusive sporting environments…
“Since the establishment of the PSI and Awards, Australian sporting codes, organisations, and clubs have demonstrated their responsiveness to increasing demands and standards for inclusivity in sports. They are actively taking measures to ensure that an individual’s sexuality or gender identity does not hinder their ability to engage, observe, or contribute to sports at any level.
“The growth that we see year on year in terms of participating clubs, organisations and codes is incredibly encouraging as it demonstrates an established focus on LGBTQ+ inclusion, zero tolerance of homophobia, biphobia, and transphobia.
“I extend my congratulations to all the individuals who have received awards and those who made it to the finals… I take pride in acknowledging their collective endeavours and in commemorating the achievements highlighted at the Pride in Sport Awards.”

Miriam Margolyes kikis with outback drag queen Shelita Buffet
New Post has been published on https://qnews.com.au/miriam-margolyes-kikis-with-outback-drag-queen-shelita-buffet/
Miriam Margolyes kikis with outback drag queen Shelita Buffet
Even at age 82, international treasure Miriam Margolyes is still on the move, travelling to Broken Hill in the final episode of her latest Australian road trip docuseries.
In her three-part series Impossibly Australian, Miriam has visited Perth and spent time amongst influencers in Byron Bay.
On Tuesday night’s finale, the British-Australian actress visited Broken Hill, about 1,000 km inland from Sydney. She describes the outback mining town as the most remote place she’s ever been.
Miriam checks into the Palace Hotel, famously featured in The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert.
The Palace’s owner-manager Esther tells Miriam that she and others bought and reopened the hotel in 2009.
“This building had been closed for a couple of years,” Esther explains.
“It was just sitting here very quietly for a long time, and luckily, lots of colour is still left behind.”
Some of the more than 500 square metres of paintings and murals throughout the hotel were seen in Priscilla.
The man who painted them – the Palace’s colourful former hotelier Mario – was featured in the 1994 film too.
“When Stephan Elliott, the writer and director of Priscilla, first checked in to the hotel, Mario was stuffing a chicken on the front counter,” Esther explains.
“Mario was so colourful, they made him a character in the movie.”
Miriam Margolyes checks in to the Priscilla Suite, preserved as close as possible to the film, including an ABBA vinyl on the record player.
Miriam Margolyes meets tour guide Shelita Buffet
Later, Miriam has coffee with Brendan, a gay man born in Broken Hill who later moved away to the city.
“I guess growing up in a country town, there’s that country, sort of blokey aspect to the town,” Brendan tells her.
Brendan said growing up in Broken Hill, he was taught “homosexuality was a bad thing”.
“Accepting myself was the hardest thing,” he said.
Brendan left, however has since returned to Broken Hill and has a newfound appreciation for his hometown.
Now, the gay man delivers walking tours around the town as colourful drag alter-ego Shelita Buffet (below).
“Some people say their drag personality is a character,” Shelita explains to Miriam.
“I think, to me, my drag personality is an extension of myself.”
Later, after a trip to the pub, Miriam Margolyes also spends time with Broken Hill’s young people.
Among them is 14-year-old Abbie Jane, who founded The Rainbow Shoelace Project in her hometown.
Miriam Margolyes filmed Impossibly Australian after a major heart procedure last year.
“I’m going to three very different communities I’ve always wanted to explore to see how people are dealing with change,” the British-Australian actress says.
All episodes of Miriam Margolyes: Impossibly Australian are streaming on ABC iview now.

Scary Spice on her five years with a woman
New Post has been published on https://qnews.com.au/scary-spice-on-her-five-years-with-a-woman/
Scary Spice on her five years with a woman
Tumblr media
Scary Spice, aka Mel B, has spoken to Attitude Magazine about her 5-year relationship with a woman in the early 2000s.
Asked if she was a member of the LGBTQ+ community, Scary Spice said, “I feel like I am.
“I didn’t start off my sexual journey going, ‘I’m this, I’m that, I’m bisexual’.
I was, and always will be, very open.”
No labels
“I happened to fall in love with a woman and was with her for five years. We still talk to this day. I don’t want to put a label on it, but I’ve always thought women are beautiful.”
In a 2016 interview, the singer and popular talent show judge denied the idea her relationship was an experiment.
“It wasn’t experimentation. I fell in love with a woman for five years. An experiment doesn’t last five years.”
Mel B has said in the past that she’s not afraid of homophobia.
“I don’t see any fear. Why would I have fear? I’m not a fearful person. As soon as I left home, I lived my life fully. As long as I’m not being mean to anyone in my immediate circle or harming anyone, people out there can have judgment, it doesn’t affect me.”
But what of the future? What if one of her three daughters turned out a member of the LGBTQ+ community?
“I’m hoping probably one of them will be! It’s not something I’d push, but it’s not something I’d push under the carpet.
“Whatever my kids want to be, I would celebrate. Whether they were gay, bisexual, transgender, I wouldn’t care. I would love and support them as my daughters.”

ChEQpoint: drug checking service opens in Queensland
New Post has been published on https://qnews.com.au/cheqpoint-drug-checking-service-opens-in-queensland/
ChEQpoint: drug checking service opens in Queensland
CheQpoint, Queensland’s first fixed-site drug checking service, has opened in Queensland
The drug checking services at CheQpoint are free, voluntary, and confidential. They involve testing the substances a person intends to use and thus helping the person make an informed choice.
The drug checking service has opened at Bowen Hills and will offer services every Friday.
The CheQpoint drug checking service is a partnership between the Queensland Injectors Health Network, The Loop Australia, and the Queensland Injectors Voice for Advocacy and Action.
These Queensland based providers have a long-standing history of delivering specialist alcohol and other drug treatment and harm reduction to Queenslanders, including dedicated peer supports.
They will deliver fixed-site services at two locations in southeast Queensland, alongside at least one festival-based service in 2024.
The Miles Labor Government is investing nearly $1 million to fund the delivery and evaluation of drug checking services in Queensland over the next two years.
Following the success of the event-based service at the recent Rabbits Eat Lettice festival, this fixed pill testing service option marks an important next step in the government’s strategic approach to reducing illicit drug-related harms.
Pill testing saves lives
Premier Steven Miles said he encouraged anyone thinking of taking an illicit drug to use the service.
“Pill testing saves lives – it’s as simple as that.
“We can’t live with our head in the sand. Instead, we are empowering Queenslanders to make informed choices about their health.
“Queenslanders of all ages tell me they are in support of this initiative, and we’ll pay close attention to its operation and success.
“I encourage any person thinking about taking illicit drugs to get them tested, understand the risk and make a choice.
“A single death from drug use is one too many. I’m confident this initiative will make a difference.”
Empowering safe choices
Geoff Davey, Chief Executive Officer, Queensland Injectors Health Network (QuIHN) described CheQpoint as a significant step tp a safer community.
“I commend the Queensland Government for their commitment to evidence-based responses to drug use.
“We must be proactive to safeguard the health and well-being of our community.
“This funding is a significant step forward toward building a safer and more informed community.
“We are confident that our drug-checking service will empower individuals to make safer choices.”

Poof Doof hosts official Big Gay Day after party in Brisbane
Tumblr media
The Wickham and queer party pros Poof Doof have again joined forces to host the official Big Gay after party at the pub.
Big Gay Day is one of Brisbane’s biggest and best street parties. On Sunday, May 5, 2024, the pride celebration will again take over The Wickham and shut down an inner-city street to drop in a big main stage boasting an all-day lineup of musical acts, DJs, drag extravaganzas and more.
Legendary US drag queen Lady Bunny and Spice Girl Melanie C (returning to the Big Gay Day stage for a DJ set) are headlining on the Big Gay Day main stage. They’re joined by Aussie dance music group Sneaky Sound System and British DJ Tall Paul.
This year’s very camp Big Gay Day theme is The Wickham of Oz.
After the entertainment on Big Gay Day’s main stage wraps up, Poof Doof want all punters to follow the rainbow brick road upstairs at the official after party at The Wickham.
All Big Gay Day ticket holders get free entry to the after party from 9pm that night.
On the DJ decks upstairs will be Jimi The Kween, Argonaut, Richie LeStrange (all pictured above, left to right), Jesse Boyd and Galleon.
Freestyle performers Gogo Bumhole, Pisces, Asphyxia, Charlie, Zelphia Mann and Bizzi Body will also serve up roving go-go shows at the party.
Since it began in 2000, Big Gay Day has become one of Brisbane’s biggest street parties, all to raise money for local LGBTQIA+ charities.
More info and final release Big Gay Day tickets at biggayday.com.au.

Kaleido Health is NSW's first dedicated LGBTQ+ health centre
New Post has been published on https://qnews.com.au/kaleido-health-is-nsws-first-dedicated-lgbtq-health-centre/
Kaleido Health is NSW's first dedicated LGBTQ+ health centre
Tumblr media
LGBTQ+ folk in Sydney and across New South Wales will soon have access to an integrated, community-controlled and inclusive health service with ACON’s new health centre, Kaleido Health, opening later this year.
The state’s first-of-its-kind centre will provide LGBTQ+ people access to a range of primary care and specialist health services.
They’ll include general practice, sexual health services, mental health support, gender-affirming health care, drug and alcohol interventions, cancer screening services and more.
Kaleido Health will move into the historic Belltower building (above) on Gadigal land in Sydney’s South Eveleigh precinct. It’s next door to the Redfern train station.
ACON is NSW’s leading LGBTQ+ and HIV health organisation. ACON’s Deputy CEO Karen Price is leading the Kaleido Health project.
She says the centre has been in development since 2016 and will draw on ACON’s 40 years of experience in LGBTQ+ health.
“LGBTQ+ people will be able to access a wide range of health services in a space that is for them, run by community, for community,” she said.
“Through Kaleido Health, we aim to directly improve access to appropriate, safe, inclusive and person-centred LGBTQ+ health care.”
Karen Price said Kaleido Health will make “a big difference” in New South Wales, in a similar way to community-controlled services for First Nations and women’s health.

Kaleido Health is due to open in spring
NSW Health Minister Ryan Park said the NSW Government is proud to be supporting Kaleido Health. The government has contributed $4.2m in funding for Kaleido Health as part of the NSW LGBTIQ+ Health Strategy.
“I want to acknowledge the great work of ACON in championing greater inclusivity in our society and their strong legacy advocating for improved health outcomes for LGBTQ+ individuals over many years,” he said.
“Our state has come a long way in supporting improved health outcomes for LGBTQ+ individuals but there is still much more to do.
“I look forward to NSW Health working with ACON to ensure the Kaleido Health Centre makes inroads in this space so everyone in NSW receives the high-quality healthcare they deserve.”
Work is underway at the Belltower building and Kaleido Health is due to open in spring 2024.
Recruitment for key operational positions will begin soon. Clinicians and other health professionals can find out more and express interest at the website.
