I am going to fight everyone who has turned Sherlock Holmes into this edgy, rude, arse of a character. This man is kind, caring, sympathetic, and knows how to interact with people (even if he'd prefer to avoid doing so).
I get the whole genuis-who- can't -relate- to -the -way- normal -people- function, but y'know what, he's not condescending about it. He doesnt necessarily think himeself to be above the masses. He admits to being beaten without throwing a tantrum about it.
Being a genuis doesn't mean or necessitate being cold and unfeeling

So, I was thinking about different fandoms and the fics that I love. What makes a good, satisfying fan fic? I realize it has 100% to do with the canon.
Take BBC Sherlock. I struggle so much with AUs where their beginnings are different. Sherlock is an astronaut, assigned to work with scientist John. (This is an example, not a dig at any specific fic). I can't. I can't. I realize BBC Sherlock is also an AU from Doyle, but BBC Sherlock and John are so fucking tied to "A Study In Pink" and John handing his phone to Sherlock that everything else seems false. Fun premise, but not the Sherlock and John I know.
A satisfying Johnlock fan fic needs to change the ending of the BBC canon. To think of these two men, who love each other so much, just continuing their parallel existences, never becoming anything more than crime-fighting buds, is just. . . it doesn't fit. It doesn't fit the show. It doesn't fit the characters Moffit and Gatiss created, even if they decided to not make it happen (as a special 'fuck you' to their fans). It's heartbreaking.
My favorite fics are fixits -- many of them deal with the aftermath of Euros and Mary, or some do "canon intercepts" and deal with Seasons 3 and 4 differently. Still, anything but John and Sherlock raising Rosie together as partners/lovers/husbands in 221B with Mrs. Hudson downstairs feels like a lie. (Some canon intercepts write out Rosie completely.)
If I had to write sequels to BBC canon, I'd pick "Drawn to Stars" by @totallysilvergirl or "Never Turn Your Back on the Sea” by @discordantwords . There's a thousand other ones, but those ring the most true to me.
"Heartstopper" fics don't have a lot of room to mess with the ending. Anything other than Charlie and Nick happily growing old together is so far out of canon and out of character that it doesn't even seem like it's worth exploring. There are a handful of ones that have one character or the other dying, but mostly, we understand right away that Charlie and Nick are endgame. We are 100% aligned with canon and creator on this.
Anything that isn't true to this ending rings as false as anything that isn't true to Sherlock's beginning. Fun to read, but not our characters.
With Nick and Charlie being so young in canon, their beginnings are so much malleable. Sherlock and John are tied to that lab. Nick and Charlie? not so much. They meet in grammar school. They meet in University. They meet after a hot hookup at a club in their 20s. They meet after broken marriages to Imogen and Ben. They meet during Nick's rugby career or as fellow teachers. They meet at gyms, at animal rescues, at psychiatric hospitals. They are single parents, University professors, rock star drummers, hot shot authors and academics. Their beginning isn't fixed. But the end always is.
I have so many favorites but I just re-read "Lavender Fields" and I think it's a perfect Nick and Charlie meeting up in their 30s fics. There's a ton of University fics too.
I haven't read nearly as many fics from other fandoms, so I don't know their quirks. I'm finding that fandoms that don't have a m/m pairing are hard to find a lot of fics for. (That's a whole 'nother post). But other m/m fandoms seem to have canon-compliant extra scenes. (Wanna see Achilles and Patroclus get freaky in a tent somewhere? Here ya go. That being said, there's one about Achilles waiting for Patroclus in the Underworld that breaks. my. damn. heart.)
Anyways, I need to do a serious look-through of other fandoms to see how this plays out.
I should add the links here to the fics I mention, just because.

"Ugh, I said no" y/n said on phone annoyingly before hanging up. Sherlock was stunned to see her in such a mood. His roommate, or rather little roomate is always childish (like him) but what caused her to be annoyed. He calls her little roommate because she always acts like a baby and was also quite younger than him.
"What's wrong little...." Sherlock was about to say his favourite nickname for her but y/n stopped him.
"Don't you dare say that, I'm very mad."
"I just wanted to know what's wrong" said Sherlock.
"Ugh, this fucking guy friend of mine want's to hookup with me"
"Oh" said Sherlock as this topic he tends to avoid cause he's way too ahead of this, "so what's stopping you."
"I don't want to" snaps y/n
"Wait wait wait, don't tell me it's Chris" Sherlock asks now, he's now perfectly invested in solving y/n's case.
"What... How do you know that?" Asked she.
"Oh because when you received the call you were happy and when he talked of hooking up you were annoyed, you totally have a crush on him but you may not be ready for sex and it's totally fine." Said Sherlock.
"No I can't hide a thing from you" y/n snapped again.
"Mmmm no you can't" said he and gave a mischievous smile, which said 'i'll always win'.
"But it's not that I'm not ready." She started to explain.
"So?" Sherlock enquired putting his laptop down.
"I don't want a casual hookup, I can only sleep with someone I love, and also..."
"And also?" He asked.
"Nothing but yeah just casual hookup ain't my thing."
"Hmmm... What kinda men do you like though." Asked Sherlock and this did the trick. She blushed and looked away, Sherlock always noticed how she'd stare at him when he's inside in his house robes, how domestic, he noticed she'd stare at his long fingers and there's something about her blush when Sherlock is to close to her. He knew she might like him. But he was too older. Over ten years, so he preferred to keep it platonic, but he knows the truth, when she comes out of the bathroom wearing a bathrobe, water still dripping from hair, it does makes Sherlock stare too. When she watches herself in the mirror and wears lipstick, winks at her own reflection Sherlock does stares then as well. Y/n thought before answering him, "i don't think I have a specific type but if I have sex, I'd want someone who'd care for me because...."
"Because?"
"I don't know anything about it honestly." She admitted. Sherlock got up and said, "sit here little...."
"No, not that name". She warned.
"Okay, come sit we'll discuss about this Chris guy."
She sits on his couch and takes her phone in hand. When He suddenly came close to y/n. His face very close to her, she liked it. She even blushed furiously,
"Wh-what?" She asked softly.
"Nothing just... wanna taste my cupcake." He replied seductively.
Slowly he pressed his lips on hers. She returned the the kiss. She knew how to kiss thankfully but the next thing was new, Sherlock slipped a tongue inside her mouth and so did she. She cupped his face and enjoyed their tongues dancing. Then His lips went from her lips to her soft cheeks and then neck and collarbone, no one ever visited those places. Her whimpers and gasps reflected her inexperience. She caught his back and the upper arm tightly as his hand went to touch her delicate soft thighs, then to upwards.
"Sherlock" his name came out as whimper as he touched exactly where even she herself never did. Sherlock lifted his face from her neck and enquired with baffled eyes, "you never touched yourself?"
In reply y/n could only shake her head. To this, Sherlock gave a mischievous smirk. And his hand slide inside her panties to touch where she needed to be. Her eyes closed in pleasure and in embarrassment. Sherlock exploring her. The places of her body which no body ever has. His fingers touched her slit and the clit. She couldn't help but whimper softly.
"You're wet, so wet." Sherlock said, rather whispered.
"I've never been... Ah touched like this before". Y/n replied.
"Good" he whispered to her ear, intentionally so his voice send shivers down her spine. He rubbed his finger against her clit. This was enough for her to moan. She gripped him tightly almost her small nails as if it would dig in his flesh making holes in his coat. "Oh fuck" she moaned followed by a hum. Her innocent child like face making such sounds? Sherlock may have been more turned on by her helpless state, her innocent face. She was absolutely inexperienced when it came to sex.
"I never knew you make such sweet noises" teased Sherlock.
"Neither do I." She replied rather whispered between her pleasure.
As she grew more wet he took this opportunity to slide his finger in her. This was new to her too. A sudden low scream came out of her mouth.
"Shhhh don't let Mrs Hudson know". Said he. And started to finger her. She rolled her eyes once he got the rhythm, in pleasure.
"You like it little cupcake?" Asked he . She could hardly talk back, yet tried and said, "don't stop please". Looking at him with her puppy eyes, Sherlock wouldn't admit but he was a sucker for that baby face and her puppy eyes.
"I don't intend to." He replied and fastened his speed.
"Keep doing what you're doing, please Sherlock." She pleaded.
"I got you". He fingered her harder until he felt she was close and came all over his finger. He held her and she panted for her first time experiencing something like that.
"This is how you do it." Sherlock said with a smile. A smile which had care and mischief both. To this she needed to reply to her detective. She turned and smirked. Her confidence grew alot after this so she said,
"Maybe you can teach me something more."

‘Weak’
BBC! Sherlock Holmes x fem! reader
- just had to jump back on the bandwagon with some smut that makes me need to find God.
Tumblr media
Sherlock's fingers trembled and stilled against the fine string of his violin. His mind was cloudy grey, his throughts strayed to the black of the night that was cast outside. He was distracting himself with some composition because he was distracted from work by being distracted by you. He was shaking, or was that just the skill needed for vibrato?
He couldn't get a specific section of his composure right, every single trial and error ended up in his frustration levels increasing.
Sherlock just couldn't get it right, and he always got it right. Foggy minded and exasperated, little thoughts of you popped up in the forefront of his mind. His fingers couldn't help but create brash, jagged sounds with his violin with every fleeting thought of you and it made his jaw tick.
She's good Sherlock. Kind. She's not like you.
Shut up, he grunted to himself. His inner consciousness and his inner most desires in a constant and escalating battle, teeth grinding against each other - he tried to ignore it.
She's confusing, effortless wit needed to be performed as always but you can put up with that, can't you?
Sush. Now. He countered.
You gazed at the bare skin of her back once.
That was by accident.
Don't you want to see more?
No I don't.
Yes. Yes you do. Call her, make her come here.
To Sherlock's twisted intuition, he called you about three hours ago for you to come to Baker Street three hours after the call. He knew he would want you near him due to your incessant distraction, might as well have you in the flesh instead of his imagination. His imagination was...vast when it came to you. His fingers dug into the string and indented with every step that echoed with your footsteps. You were here, and he didn't know what to say to you
"Hey, you called for me.' You declared sweetly.
His eyes pounced on you and he clattered his violin onto the floor, pupils never wavering. You were waiting at the door with an inquisitive look on your face, waiting for the hail mary or help with another mind boggling case. Sherlock straightened his posture up as well as unbuttoning his suit blazer, he needed to kill time, fill the air up with nothing in order for it to mean something. His brain was fogged up like a never ending unnatural mist. Sherlock came behind you and shut the flat door. You realized that he had been pacing, his eyebrow creased when he had been pacing or if his mind was heavy with something. And as if it was clockwork, he was pacing up and down the room and his fingers were triangular upon his face as if he was contemplating a choice. He stopped in his tracks and stared at you blankly as always.
'Sherlock, what is it?' You raised an eyebrow at his strange but not infrequent behaviour.
'I'm unsure if I can continue in such a way." Sherlock blurted and it confused you more than anything, his blue eyes boring into you from blank to cold.
'What are you talking about?' You sighed out tirelessly, flinging your bag onto the floor. Too concerned with your inhability to comprehend how exhausted you were than Sherlock's mind games. 'Maybe it's time to stop composing, don't you think?'
'No, no stop that. It's not about that. It's you. It's always you.’ He breathed out but he was too busy trying to intellectualise his emotions rather than looking at how dumbfounded you were. Your eyes were wild with confusion, you relayed all of your interactions with Sherlock in case you accidentally did something embarassing in front of him. Or said something embarrassing in front of him that hinted at your pulsating feelings for him.
'Have I done something?' Your voice was hushed and barely above a whisper. Your heart was humming at a commenstrual rate and you prayed that he didn't notice. Sherlock inched closer and closer to you, eyes cast down for a split second to remark at the fact vou were wearing a skirt. A short skirt.
'Yes you have. You've done something to my head and I don't like it, my mind was clear and now it's all...you. I called you earlier today because I assumed that I would feel the need to take this alarming revelation away but you have beguiled me to the point where it is becoming a disraction. I am married to my work, my work is something that never dies. I'm now deciding to do what you lot do when stunted with feelings of an enlarged nature by confessing to make these feelings go away so I can get back on track.' Sherlock's feet hand a mind of their own, he was right infront of such gleaming fascinating eyes that were flitting to his lips now.
What a sight.
'Doesn't go away just like that.’ You responded with a half smile, internally happy with yourself that you got him all messy for you.
"Silly little emotions, you people have too many of them.' He sneered down at you but you saw the truth, Sherlock was sexually frustrated and he was at his wits end. You almost felt sorry for him.
‘Another thing us humans feel is sexual desire, I doubt I've been on your mind that much you'd even consider sex a possibility.' You smirked up at him, trying to wrap up your words in sarcasm, but it was too loose. You wanted him to take you and it was obvious by your voice alone.
'Sexual desire is something the weak feel. If a person can lose their inhibitions by the slightest show of skin, or the curve of...her lips-' Sherlock cut himself off when his gaze lingered onto your lips and making the mishap and spoke the word 'her' but you picked up right where he left off.
'Or a feather light touch...’ You cast your eyes down to where your fingers were grazing against his. Sherlock sucked in a small breath and your mind was turning into static, this proximity was delicious and so unexpected. Your eyes met his and this time it was palpable and electric.
'Are you calling me weak?' Sherlock raised a questioning eyebrow, so confident in his guarded walls but you had all the means to knock them down.
You didn't respond.
'Eyes dialating at 3 beats a second, blown out, the colour is barely visible. Your knees are buckling slightly, probably due to the pressure of such discerning gazes meeting or the fact that your imagination is running wild with you in multiple different compromising scenarios. You on top, me on top. Me taking control, you taking control- it's difficult to figure out actually because you have a smart mouth yet it's as if you want to be put in your place. Maybe a psychological response, maybe a lack of a father figure. But you probably like it rough considering the fact you rip your cuticles away, breathing shallowed and laboured indicates sexual attraction. What I'm looking down at right now...is doing all those things.' Sherlock deduced lowly and it made your mouth pop open. Not in shock because of the way he saw through you...but because of the fact that he was doing the same exact thing.
Silence sprayed through the air and your teeth clamped onto your lower lip. Sherlock creased his brow and lowered his stare through his lashes and you just grabbed him by the collar and smashed your lips on his.
Like an inexperienced teenager, he was stunned but as you started glazing your tongue over his lips he began melting into you. He cupped your face before ultimately tangling his digits through your hair, you moaned into his mouth at such a delectable thing. You ripped your face away from his to look at his cool blue, breezy eyes. The man that never let anyone get too close let alone kiss him, you felt so fucking special. You leaned in, wrapping your arms around his neck, and whispered into his ear.
'Has your confession made your silly little emotions go away ?' You breathed and it sent a chill through him, the cadence of your voice was seduction incarnate. Sherlock was smart enough to never give into temptation no matter how much it shrieked his name, but you were the object of it all. He was willing just this once.
What stunted him was the fact that his nerves had boiled away and were no where to be seen, he had never carried out the physical practicalities of it but his scientific results and his incessant abilities to deduce people based on their appearance and their bodliy reactions to things is what would make him differ than the rest in bed. Sherlock wanted to give you a taste of it all, you more than earned it.
He pulled your face away from his ear by your hair so your glares could inteconnect once more, your mouth was agape and let out a breathless gasp.
'I can make you weaker than you are.' He stated lowly, in an almost growl like way if you listened to it harder. You were getting wetter and wetter with every word that was coming out of his mouth.
"Show me.' You belittled through challenging eyes.
His mouth slanted on yours again, more desperate and sloppy this time around and it made you tug on his soft curls, he let out a hiss. Sherlock crouched down and grabbed at the back of your thighs so that you could straddle him as he hurridely walked you to his bedroom, mouths still sewn together. He got you sprawled out on the bed and tore you of your clothes so quickly you would have been embarrassed any other time...but it was Sherlock. Who could blame you? You were naked before him, bar your underwear, and felt incredibly sexy under his gaze. Your body left him speechless. He had been fascinated by it ever since he accidentally came into contact with the skin of your back in your cute little dress.
He couldn't help but imagine what the rest of you looked like...and now here you both are. Fulfilling each others desires.
Sherlock locked his door instantly, rushing to get his blazer off as if he was dying to get his hands on you. The rate in which he ripped off his suit shirt was so fast the buttons popped and sprayed over the room, your eyebrows tensed in pleasure as your walls clenched around thin air.
You needed his cock in you now; he nestled between your legs and leaned up so he could drink in the sight of you. Round pert tits and hard nipples, more for him to savour for himself.
"Oh God...' He whimpered as he screwed his eyes shut. You beamed up at the fact you had got the infamous detective in such a state.
'Your heart is beating faster than mine.' You quipped with a sly smirk on your face, waiting for him to wreck you into another dimension but he was toying with you. His demeanour instantly shifted. He was going to show you a lesson.
'Shhh, let me show you how fast it can go.' Sherlock cooed at you like you were a stupid, naive little schoolgirl, your fingers were itching to get his trousers off but he kissed you so hard it made you forget your own name. Fingers tangled in your hair and the other palming at your tits, his mouth strayed away from your lips to add blossoming bruises and bites at your neck. You moaned at the sensation and he revelled in the delightful sound.
Your impatient hands travelled to his belt and his zipper and your nimble fingers found his cock in no time, releasing it from its confines your eyes widened at how thick and long it is, the girth on him was outstanding.
It was rock solid. He kicked his pants and underwear off while he was at it, your slender palm stroked him up and down it made a broken moan escape from his throat, you felt on top of the world. Sherlock intertwined his fingers with yours and held them above your head, you were so pleased at his controlling nature but he deduced that you liked that earlier. Tease.
'Can you deduce that I need you inside me?' You questioned like the twat you were, preparing to tease him to push him over the edge so he can take it out on you. Sherlock gave you a knowing yet disapproving look before tearing off your panties and shimmying the reminants down your long, smooth legs.
‘Wetter than I thought was humanly possible.' His voice was thick with need.
'I thought you weren't human.' You whined as he ran his cock through your arousal, your wetness was coating him so deliciously. You squirmed into the sheets, back arching into him as skin collided against skin.
'Shut up.' Sherlock shoved his fingers in your mouth before pushing himself in you and stretching your insides out, your attempts to scream out were hindered as his fingers blocked your throat from making any noise, he smirked at the sentiment and he hated sentiment.
Sherlock pistoned his cock in and out of you and watched it disappear and appear. His mind was reeling in pleasure, it was even more pleasurable because he knew you were feeling that same pleasure, your body was like a map and he wanted to travel everywhere. Your whimpers were bouncing from wall to wall in his bedroom and it was like the room had been christened, heaven sent. Your walls clamped around him like a vacuum and the once sentient man was starting to lose his mind.
'You feel so good.' He panted into the skin of your neck, you grasped the sides of his face to feel and taste his lips on yours once again.
'Sherlock. you're...I-.' You could barely string a sentence together you were being fucked so deep and so crazy by him. You thought his sexual prowess would be good even though he was so secretive about it but not this good.
The telltale signs of your arousal about to burst was being indicated, but what was most prevelent was that Sherlock's cock was twitching inside of you.
You clawed at his back like an animal and dug your nails in him to claim him as yours. You felt white hot heat wash over you as you came onto his cock, your thighs were tingling with a stinging sensation. Sherlock followed suit when he heard your final broken whine, that was what did him in. He was quite literally leaking inside of you.
Breathless, he rolled over to lay beside you. Sweat was rolling off of both of your bodies as you sat there breathing like you've both just ran a marathon.
'Heart is beating an infinitely higher rate than before.' Sherlock clarified and it made you let out a breathy laugh.
'I'm weaker than I've ever been before.’

'must a cup of tea be such an arduous request?'
Tumblr media
slightly (and a bit obsessively) in love with bbc sherlock.
i gladly take all types of requests regarding him - whether it's x Y/N, john & canon characters, an OC, if we're going for a dadlock vibe, childlock, some fluff, angst or a little bit more (winky face) - i'm always ready. oh, and i'm on ao3, too, if that sort of thing suits you better.
let me know if you would liked to be tagged in anything specific. i will, of course, appropriately use content warnings for certain triggers or 18+ topics.
just be kind and remember that there is no queerbaiting in this house.
a (progressive) list of my works:
quiet days - in where sherlock begins to look forward to quiet days as opposed to resenting them.
the circle of life - john moves out and sherlock struggles to cope.
lost at sea - sherlock x femOC, just some sour talk, really.
innate destructibility - john struggles to communicate, sherlock struggles to understand.
sacrificial investment - sherlock tries to come up with ways to make john stay.
restoring balance - post season four, sherlock learns to let go of how things used to be at baker street. see part two here.
sherlock & co:
sea salt & cologne - a miscommunication and some bad wording leads to the obvious. (according to sherlock, at least.) see part two here.

Submission message for Sherlock and Moriarty: BBC Sherlock and Moriarty
Submission messagefor Charles and Erik: Charles Xavier and Erik Lehnsherr (aka Professor X and Magneto) from anything X-Men
Additional propaganda: Sherlock is literally the page image for the Wikipedia page on Queerbaiting. Also, it's Aromantic Day of Visibility so I'm here to remind you that any straight depiction of Sherlock is erasure and queerbaiting of one of the greatest aroace characters in the history of literature.
Okay but Cherik (Spot 12) is so incredibly queer I can’t even—
Like straight up they have a kid together because Professor X siphoned off Magneto into his brain and then they did a mind meld thing and Onslaught came out of Professor X like Athena from Zeus.
There was a recent story arc where they defeated Onslaught and the guy who defeated Onslaught straight up said something like ‘Professor X and Magneto aren’t doing anything because they have a soft spot for their murderous joint kid entity’. Please bear in mind that this guy is also straight-up Professor X’s son and a telepath.
Also this comic book cover is literally the gayest thing I have ever seen.
Tumblr media
Magneto is a bara daddy for 0 reason and Professor X is supposed to be dead, yet looks like a twink having the absolute time of his LIFE.
Also in a marvel comic specifically for celebrating canon queer couples there’s this stunner of a panel:
Tumblr media
Why is this not canon again???
God, the matched Hellfire Gala outfits are making me insane in the membrane.

For context here’s literally THEE couple of the X-men universe at the exact same party:

They’re complimentary— even theyre not fucking MATCHING. For the love of god just let the old men kiss holy shit.

The Magnus Archives And The Mary Sue
Jonathan Sims is not a Mary Sue.
I have been listening to The Magnus Archives over the past few months and, despite my Hemophobia (fear of blood), I have reached the end of the first season. And something interesting stuck out to me.
Jonathan Sims is not a Mary Sue.
This may seem like an oddly specific statement, and it is. Because this is a character who fits the bill for the archetype to a tea, but itsn't. And I'd like to examine why.
Specifically, I'd like to take a look at how he contrasts with another pop culture detective. That being Sherlock from the BBC show of the same name.
Let me explain.
SPOILERS AHEAD
Tumblr media
So, I'm going to prefix this with the fact that I have not listened to the entire podcast. A phobia of blood has kept me away from specific episodes, but more importantly, I am simply not finished or up to date with the podcast, so I do not know much of the surrounding mystery. At the time of writing this, I have just finished The New Door, which is for somehow the creepiest so far.
The point is, if the characterisation of Mr Sims changes over the series, this is the benchmark for how it has been going so far.
First up, let me define a few terms. A Mary Sue is not a character, but a story. A Mary Sue is a story in which a designated character is the only character in the story, and all others are noticeably lacking in development or agency that doesn't centre around this character. For example, Rey from the Star Wars sequel trilogy is not a Mary Sue in The Force Awakens but slowly transitions through The Last Jedi until sitting firmly in that box for The Rise Of Skywalker.
Second up, I do not believe in "bad stories", and I refuse to decry any story as "awful" or "terrible", and instead as "not for me". Literature and media are subjective, and there is nothing wrong with you liking a character designated as a Mary Sue, that is half of all fanfiction. So, please don't feel the need to defend yourself for liking Sherlock or Rey, this isn't an attack on you. This is an analysis of why I personally didn't like Sherlock, where I did like Jonathan Sims.
That is the parameters I am using for this discussion. If you have an issue with this, disagree with this, not my analysis.
Tumblr media
So, Sherlock. In this series, after the first episode (In which Sherlock is not a Sue yet, just a jerk), every other character pales in comparison to Sherlock. Watson is limited to a love interest who routinely gets kidnapped. Moriarty is obsessed with Sherlock. The police can't act without Sherlock's help. You get what I mean.
Jonathan Sims, on the other hand, is a jerk. Firmly and simply, when we meet him, he is derogatory about his colleagues and borders on rudeness towards those giving statements. He is a jerk.
This is, in my opinion, fantastic characterisation, because it isn't entirely accurate. Don't get me wrong, this isn't a mask he puts on. But there are several situations in which Sims' companions, or the general public are put in danger, and he offers help without batting an eye. This is a kind man who just happens to suffer from a bad case of "living in London".
Tumblr media
For example, it is routinely stated that people come to the Magnus Archive when they have nowhere else to go, and Sims takes them in, and listens patiently. He stays with the woman who is scared to be alone, and despite alack of belief, is willing to investigate every statement given, no matter how unlikely, out of kindness to the client.
Another example is the cliffhanger at the end of Infestation. Jonathan is in danger, and his immediate reaction, without hesitation or debate, is to try and get Sasha out of there. Before even trying to save himself. He does this with Martin when he needs a place to stay. He complains about this coworker repeatedly, and yet is instantly willing to offer him a safe place to stay.
Again, prickly and most definitely not "nice", but fundamentally benevolent.
This doesn't stop Mr Sims from becoming a Mary Sue, though. So what is it that does? The supporting cast.
Everyone else, from Sasha, to Martin, to Nurse Annie. Everyone is rich with characterisation that doesn't revolve around Mr Sims. Martin, so far, is a coward who is getting over himself and proving to be more useful than those around him expect, Michael is terrifying in a way I was not prepared for at all (it messes with perception instead of being a physical threat, and that's unsettling on several different levels), and Sasha is... well I think she's the villain, but that is a theory I have no proof on yet.
The point is, the story doesn't happen to him because he is the protagonist, and the secondary cast doesn't stick around him because "he is the protagonist." The story happens to him because he's in the wrong place at the wrong time, and the cast sticks around because they like him and trust him, mostly.
Tumblr media
Jonathan Sims and Sherlock are the same character, with one minour difference, that being one of them is kind-hearted beneath all of the nonsense. But what sets them apart, in my opinion, is the story they are in. Everything in Sherlock revolves around Sherlock. The plot of The Magnus Archive seems to revolve around Jonathan Sims, but that's only out of sheer force of bad luck.
Also, he speaks with my exact accent and mannerisms (although I like to think I'm a little less abrasive), so he does have that going for him.

Hi! When Aziraphale looked at Crowley like that after Crowley saved his books from burning in S1, it nearly made me tear up. I don't even cry after watching something on screen lol.
Is there any specific name for that trope? "A does a favour for B and B can't stop themselves from looking at A with heart-eyes." (Or is it too specific to be a trope? Because something similar happened in ASIP of BBC Sherlock too when Angelo brought the cane to John and John turned to look at Sherlock with a similar expression.)

I think It's called "queer blond disaster doesn't know how to communicate that they're about to break down and cry or fuck their partners silly when the camera's off" LOL

LOL if you liked that scene... light spoilers, S2 EXPANDS on that scene, so I think you'll enjoy it. It's... Ooof pretty gay.
I'm so happy to hear about how you're enjoying Good Omens! :D You can see why a lot of the Sherlock fandom latched onto it after S4 LOL

Not a BBC Sherlock fan anymore, but absolutely love Sherlock Holmes and Holmes/Watson content in other adaptations.
So, alas, blacklisting the BBC Sherlock tag doesn't really help, because I am still interested in Sherlock Holmes, and not everyone tags their posts as BBC Sherlock specifically when they post something related to it (not blaming anyone for that - I get how tiring it can be to tag the whole thing everytime you post/reblog something - but still.)
I can't even filter the johnlock tag (despite not shipping johnlock in the show anymore) because even people who post Holmes/Watson posts in other adaptations, they tag those as johnlock too (like granada johnlock, etc.) and I don't want to be missing out on them.
I'm not really going anywhere with this hehe. Just a rambling. I still seeing my old friends from the BBC Sherlock fandom (you included) on my dash.
Have a good day!
Hey Nonny *hugs*
Ugh, I'm sorry that searching has become harder for you. I can understand the frustration you're having... perhaps instead you need to filter further NOT by ship tags but by relationships?
If you go to AO3's search page start narrowing it down by Fandom:
Tumblr media
This example I just typed Sherlock, so you could choose the specific fandom or various fandom (you can select multiple ones, it will show up with an "x" next to it, then just start typing another one).
THEN, scroll down a bit more, and select from the "Relationship" section:
Tumblr media
The "/" means romantic ship (a "slash ship") and the "&" is a platonic / friendship ship (note that some "pre-slash" fics tag them with the ampersand). That should help narrow down your search a lot more than just typing in tags.
In fairness, a LOT of authors use "Sherlock Holmes and Related Fandoms" tag BECAUSE it is an umbrella fandom, so you HAVE to narrow it down more to the specific adaptation you're looking for fics for. Using both seems to work better, I find.
And in defence of authors, Johnlock is the most-known ship tag for them, so you WILL get everything from everywhere. You're best off to make SURE you're using the relationship filter to narrow it down rather than just typing in "Johnlock" as a general tag search.
Unless of course this is ALL already what you're doing then I'm just a fool who can't read LOL 🙃
That all said, I am sorry you're having a hard time finding what you need (and to be fair, my blog isn't the best place to find non-BBC Johnlock fics, LOL) BUT I do really appreciate you still enjoying my content enough to follow me although BBCS isn't your jam anymore <3
I hope I helped a BIT, and it's totally okay to come here and ramble. Surely there are other kindred spirits and maybe your ask helped them find what they're looking for <3
Have a fantastic day, Nonny *hugs*

i’ve seen so many people talking abt how bbc sherlock mischaracterized them & their relationship, making them seem like they can’t stand each other. i don’t believe it but i wanna ask why did mofftiss make it like “that” 🫠
My take is that Sherlock is Mofftiss' attempt to transform the subtext of the canon stories into text. This means that rather than telling any specific Doyle story directly, they're trying to tell an underlying story that appears in that canon story in a way that makes it look like a new invention to any casual viewer, but is actually true to Doyle's intention in the original story.
As a consequence, where Doyle creates a side character who is a mirror to either Holmes or Watson, Mofftiss will either eliminate (or duplicate) the middleman by giving their traits/story to directly to Sherlock or John in Sherlock. They actually do this both in subtext and in text.
So, for example, subtextual violence by a John mirror toward a Sherlock mirror in the canon (let's use Culverton Smith as a Watson mirror in The Dying Detective because it's an unusually clear example) becomes textual violence by John toward Sherlock in The Lying Detective. Mofftiss were unusually obvious with this one; Doyle literally has Watson's first observations of Culverton Smith occur through a mirror. Smith turns the full power of his medical knowledge against Sherlock Holmes just as Holmes is telling Watson that he doesn't think he's a good doctor. Smith shakes Holmes roughly as he lies in his sick bed, while Watson hides. It's very easy to see the roots of The Lying Detective in this story.
In my view, there isn't really a way to convince canon readers who aren't interested in this kind of reading, and I'm not interested in doing that. Doyle was predominantly a horror writer, and he appears to have had a lot of hangups that he expressed in his fiction (I don't just mean his relationship with sexuality, but that's part of it). It shouldn't be surprising that the subtext of these stories takes some dark turns. There is absolutely nothing wrong with reading the canon for the witty banter and the derring-do! Holmes and Watson can just be crime-solving husbands if you want, and the cases can just be the cases. But it's clear to me that Doyle hid stories within his stories, and now that I've seen that, I want to uncover as much of it as I can because I find it fascinating and fun to work out.
Despite that, I wouldn't personally characterize John and Sherlock's (or Watson and Holmes's) relationship as "they can't stand each other", and clearly Mofftiss don't either, it only takes watching the entirety of TLD to see that. I also find it a bit boring to reduce Martin Freeman's performance in that episode to only one emotion (that's famously the opposite of what he does in his acting!). Their relationship is complex, and John's deeply repressed emotions are getting in the way of their sorting it out onscreen.

🍄🥀 hey there!
I'm looking for something very specific, and it's probably far fetched.
I'm a literate to novella rper (although I can go down to semi lit!) looking for a crossover ccxcc roleplay. basically, as long as I have a passing familiarity with your fandom, I'd be glad to rp it. I'm looking to play as tony stark from the marvel fandom. here are some fandoms I'd be open to do a crossover with!
house md
the 100
lucifer
harry potter
barbie
winx club
sherlock bbc
hunger games
the queens gambit
and more!
I'm open to 🕊 & nsfw but it's by no means required. moreover I'm open to mxf, mxm, and fxf (f!tony anyone?) I'm also honestly open to an ocxcc plot with me as tony stark as long as u make the plot interesting for me :>
anyway, yeah <3
give a like and anon will get back to you

I think the warrior cats and warriors in your submission list are the same thing, btw do you have reccomendations of like. anything that writes woman well
Ah, you might be right; I think I skimmed that entry's propaganda, and it was very specific to whatever series it was about without dropping the full series name, and I was like "Maybe this is Warrior Cats? I feel lazy, I'm not going to look heavily into it."
So, as a reminder: use the full but common name for the series! For example, Miraculous Ladybug (this seems to be the most common title despite being a shortened version), Warrior Cats, BBC Sherlock, etc. And check that you don't have a space after the title's entry, as that counts as a different entry than the title without the space when using the UNIQUE function in Google sheets (which is how I count the unique entries).
As for recommendations, this is hard because I watch a lot of trash, especially recently, but:
- You can never go wrong with Revolutionary Girl Utena. Note: this show (and start with the show, not the movie) has a lot of potentially triggering stuff, so check out those warnings before you start if you have any triggers at all. It uses the triggering stuff very well and to tell its story and explore its themes, not just for, like, titillation though. Indeed, it is, I would argue, necessary for the story and themes the show seeks to explore. It is legally free on Youtube in...I want to say 480p, and in better resolution on Crunchyroll and Funimation (yes, Funimation's site is still up; I find it superior to Crunchyroll's since it actually includes closed captions for dubs, although it doesn't include newer anime from after the two companies merged). Also, you want to watch the sub for this. I'm normally not one to say "the dub is bad" and stuff and be a purist about it—in fact I normally go to bat for dubs—but, uh... yeah, the dub is bad this time. Crispin Freeman and Dan Green are delightful in it though, I'll give it that.
- Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood uses its female characters well. Maybe it could be better, I've seen some people in these tournaments have beef with it, but it's a pretty perfectly told story, like solid A+, with a lot of really great female characters who I find very satisfying so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. This is on Crunchyroll, Hulu, and I believe Amazon Prime?
- Don't let the title fool you: Crazy Ex-Girlfriend is a fantastic show with great female characters who are complex and human, have compelling arcs, and are vital to the story. The relationship between Rebecca and Paula is central to the show and SO good, especially as the show goes on. The title is because it explores the trope of the crazy ex-girlfriend in a very humanizing way, and the title/opening song even mentions how the title is a sexist term, but it's a lot more nuanced than that. Also, it's a musical with very good original songs every episode. But check trigger warnings for this show too though. The show is streaming on Netflix last I checked.
- Uhh... maybe the first two seasons of My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic? It's a kid's show, but it's good. I haven't seen it in years and years though, so I don't know if I can still fully vouch for it. I believe it is streaming on Netflix?
- Revue Starlight? I haven't thought about it heavily, but I had no beef watching it. This is streaming on HiDive.
- I've heard good things about Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury, but I can't vouch for it personally. It's streaming on Crunchyroll.
UPDATE: Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury is also legally on youtube!
Honestly, I know more imperfect shows that I'm satisfied with, like I give it a B+ to A- at least, but that I haven't thought heavily about than stuff where I'm like, "Oh, yeah, definitely, definitely, nothing I'd pick out there as a problem." For example, Baccano! is probably imperfect (as well as not streaming legally anywhere), but I don't remember being, like, struck by a bunch of problems there. So, I'm not the best for recs that I can give a 100% guarantee for.

Did you have any experience or did you learn any knowledge that helped you to improve your deduction skills extermely in a short time or immediately? It can be one of your theories(building, timeline etc.)or experiences.
Okay so, this is post-answer Damian here, this turned out to be a massive answer to your question, so uuhhhh, have fun (?)
Hello! So before i answer this question let me just say, please don't try to speedrun deduction, i don't know if that's where you're going with this question, but doing so it's like trying to speedrun playing an instrument, you'll just end up with a nice party trick instead of an actual skill. So yeah, with that out of the way, onto the actual answer
So yes, i have found a few things that helped me sort of "boost" my learning of deduction at different stages, i'm still finding things like these today. These are like moments in your learning progress where everything you've learned up to that point just sort of clicks, and to be completely honest a lot of my theories come from those moments. I do genuinely believe that these moments are different for everyone, since everyone takes different paths to learning deduction and everyone has different moments of clarity where everything they've been trying to learn just settles into your brain, and it's suddenly all understandable. For this reason i won't necessarily explain what experiences i had or what things i learned that prompted this (also because that's why i post my theories, since they're a product of these moments, and i still have at least one you haven't seen yet), but rather i will share how i got to these moments
For me a tool that i used and still use to get me to these moments is analyzing other people's deductions, and bare with me cause this might sound like complete nonsense but trust me, this is really a good tool. You can analyze actual, real deductions, but unfortunately it's very hard to analyze an actual deduction, because the deductionist has to provide the reasoning behind it, and for some reason that's something a lot of deductionists nowadays seem to be allergic to doing. This is why i provide the reasoning to every deduction i post here if i have the reference picture of what i'm deducing (the grand total of two i've posted so far... slowly but surely). As an alternative, and something i do a lot, is analyze deduction scenes from BBC Sherlock, i've always said these scenes are an almost perfect portrayal of what actual deduction looks like
Now, let me be very clear (and go on a slight tangent to justify what i just said). A lot of people in the deduction community will give you the typical advice of "Sherlock Holmes is fiction, keep that in mind, he is the perfect deductionist, and trying to be on his level is an unachiavable goal!", and i get where that sentiment comes from, but i fundamentally disagree with it. Sherlock, at least the BBC version, is definitely fiction, but it was written in a way that aligns very well with how actual deduction works. In deduction you're presented the effects of something, and it's your job to trace that effect to it's original cause. Writers go through this process too, they have an effect they want (a murder that looks a specific way, or a killer that works in a specific manner, or even just a way for Sherlock to know John is an army doctor), and they have to come up with a plausible, believable way for that effect to work, a cause for it. By doing this, Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss stumbled upon some unbelievably realistic portrayals of what deduction looks like
Now, this is not to say that Sherlock isn't fiction at all, there is definitely fiction in that show (starting with the actual cases), there are definitely ficticious parts in the portrayal of deduction, but the fiction (in deduction specifically) doesn't come from the skills Sherlock displays, or from the mental processes he uses, but rather from the situations he finds himself in. Sherlock, in that show, always has all the specific information he needs for his deductions to come to fruition, he always has the necessary clues to get to a specific conclusion, and this is not something you're going to find in real life. That being said, if a deductionist were to be presented with the same information Sherlock is presented with, there is no reason why they shouldn't be able to make the same deductions he makes in that show. So keeping this in mind, we can take that show and analyze the processes Sherlock goes through, analyze the methods he uses, and apply them ourselves, or learn things about actual irl deduction from them
So, rant over, let's get into how to actually analyze a deduction, from Sherlock or otherwise. This something i haven't yet figured out how to explain in a post, i actually have been toying with the idea of making a Youtube video going through how to break down a deduction and analyze the trains of though present in it's reasoning.
So i'm still working on showing you guys how to do this, what i can tell you is pay attention to what a deductionist is saying saying when they explain their deductions, not to the actual words that explain "this is how i deduced this thing", but rather how and why they arrived to the conclusions, or how and why they went a specific direction or down a specific route. You're not looking to understand E=MC2, You're looking to understand what was Einstein thinking, and how did his trains of thought let him reach E=MC2.
In every explanation of a deduction you have the input, the trains of though that input goes through (what we call The Blackbox), and the output. The input and output is what the deductionist explains, the cause and effect, the A+B=C. But The Blackbox, the process inside their brain that allows them to go through that reasoning, the tools they use to connect observations to a conclusion, keeping in mind probabilities, keeping in mind things like Occam's razor, the tools that allows them to build up from one deduction to the next, that's something much more complex to explain or even put into words, and that's what you're looking to decipher from how they deduce.
I recommend writing down the explanation to a deduction, maybe make a mind map about it, write down all the deductions into sticky notes and make them into a diagramn, identify different types of deductions, what makes them different? what makes one more or less complex than the others? why did the deductionist start with deduction A and then move on to deduction B and not the other way around? why did they start or end at a certain point? etc. this is how i arrived at my theories. My Building Theory, for example, comes from doing this and realizing that the diagramn i ended up with was entirely dependent on the deductions being stacked on top of one another, some of them literally supporting the next level. Of course once i made a connection like that one i went out and tested it multiple times, and upon seeing that it worked, boom, new theory, and these theories led to a massive boost in my deduction skills

Fic authors self rec! When you get this, reply with your favourite five fics that you've written, then pass on to at least five other writers.
It has been a truly embarrassing number of weeks since I got this, but better late than never, right? Here are my 5, in chronological order:
"All Our Gifts at Once, or, the Young Sea-Man," BBC Sherlock, 48k. A Victorian-era realist retelling of The Little Mermaid. John, an illiterate shipwright, gives up his home and his voice for a chance to work alongside Sherlock Holmes, the famous London botanist. My first long fic (still my longest to date!) and monstrously ambitious; to this day I can't quite believe I pulled it off. But this is a self-rec post, so I'm gonna say it: I really did.
"A Case-by-Case Basis," BBC Sherlock, 5,2k. A comic, highly tropy getting-together fic. Which is really not usually my thing at all! I wrote this for an exchange, and I managed to honor the prompt while still making it very much my own, and I remain proud that I managed both those things at the same time.
"Every Day's Most Quiet Need," Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries, 22.5k. Canon-compliant Mac-PoV fic about Mac's longstanding (if buried) feelings for Phryne and her growing friendship with Jack Robinson and the tensions between these things. This one really stretched me, as did working with @havingbeenbreathedout (who also prompted the fic) as a beta.
"Voskresenie," For All Mankind, 8k. An immediately-post-s3 fic set in Moscow about mourning in the face of catastrophic loss, from the PoV of the character you're thinking of if you have watched the show (which I do not want to spoil for anyone who hasn't!!!) This was, in its own way, a very ambitious fic (which uhhh seems to be a theme among my favorites) but I think I got to something very real and raw and universal while also keeping the specificity of the character and the setting.
"No Real Reason to be Lonely," For All Mankind, 3.5k. Post S2 fic. Ed's had a shitty day, but at least he's got Molly looking out for him, and she knows just the thing to cheer him up. Ed and Molly's friendship is one of my favorite things about this show, and I feel like I got the full dimensionality of it here.
I am too inept lazy to do this askbox-wise, so I will instead tag: @midnight-els , @moocowmoocow , @doctornerdington , @peachpulpeuse , and @trickybonmot . And anyone else who wants to do it -- please tag me if you do! I love these things.
