Steve was a ghost who haunted his best friend.
Tumblr media
Steve had died in that interrogation room under Starcourt and now, he was stuck haunting Robin Buckley who might as well be his shortest heartbreak and long-lost twin.
The problem was she couldn't see or touch him.
No, she could hear him just fine, but physical contact was just impossible.
Steve, however, didn't care much so long as he had someone there to listen to his daily monologues. It was fun.
They bickered most of the time and while Robin always seemed sad that she couldn't hug him whenever he told her about his parents or how lonely he used to be before her, Steve was just happy with what he got.
Because even in death, he wasn't alone, and that was enough of a gift to him.
Then, the day his funeral was held, Steve was thankful that he had convinced Robin to attend considering it was how he reunited with the kids.
They all saw him.
A thing that Steve would never take for granted.
Robin didn't know what to do when they flocked around her and bombarded her with question after question, demanding to know why she was the one who got the privilege of being haunted by Steve.
"A privilege?" Robin burst into a laugh, giving them a ridiculous look.
"Of course, to think you've been haunted and actually having real conversations with a ghost every day is a revolutionary step into the spiritual science field," Dustin narrowed his eyes. "And I am very disappointed in you, Ms. Robin Buckley, for not telling me right away!"
"Just say you're jealous that Steve doesn't haunt you." Max rolled her eyes.
"You say it as if you're not jealous yourself!" Mike scowled at her.
"No, I'm not, you delusional nerd!" Max scowled back.
"Hey!"
"C'mon guys, don't fight," Lucas frowned and sighed in exasperation.
Noticing the odd looks from other people at the cemetery, Robin herded the kids into Steve's car that he had given her as a keepsake.
Once they were safely away from prying eyes, Robin clapped her hands to gather everyone's attention.
"Children!" She then continued under their curious gazes. "Steve-o here said he really appreciates that you munchkins care so much about him. But sadly, he can't leave my side. Like literally can't so if any of you want to see him, you can always seek me out whenever you see fit."
"Why are you saying all of this?" Mike squinted at her.
"Because Steve can't talk to us, obviously." Dustin responded haughtily, earning an eye roll from the other boy.
"Bingo!" Robin did a fist bump with Dustin.
Then, she held up a finger at them. "And before you ask, I can't see him. Or touch him."
She watched the kids look at the passenger seat before nodding at her.
It must be Steve who confirmed the truth, she thought.
As they went back to discussing Steve's incorporeal state, Robin had a feeling that she had unknowingly adopted a gaggle of troublesome ducklings who were going to give her grey hair very very soon.
Tumblr media
"C'mon Robbie, it's a Halloween party," Steve begged. "Let's go have some fun! Don't your heart ache to watch your bestest friend rotting in sorrow while eating pumpkins?"
"First of all, I've never ever met anyone who uses 'heart' and 'ache' like that," Robin blew at her freshly painted nails.
"Well, now I'm your first. Didn't people always say special always come late?"
"I don't even want to correct you on all of that," Robin huffed quietly at Steve's goofy chuckle. "And no, Dingus, you don't eat pumpkins. Or if you do, I don't care."
"Please, Robbie, I just wanna have fun," Steve sighed dolefully. "It's been a long time ago since I went to a party." He sighed again and even sniffled a little.
When Robin groaned, a big grin stretched on his lips.
"Just this time." She narrowed her eyes at him, or precisely speaking, at the spot where she assumed he was sitting.
Sometimes, when she made a wrong guess, Steve would just move over to where her gaze stopped and continue talking her ears off.
"I promise you're gonna have so much fun, Robbie." Steve ruffled her hair even if his hand always passed right through her. It was still one of his hard-to-get-rid-of habits anyway.
By the time they arrived, the party was already full-blown and swarmed with people.
As Robin struggled her way through the crowd, Steve just walked beside her with barely any difficulties.
He bet she would curse him so much if she saw how comfortable he looked right now.
But then, his little moment of joy was cut short when he bumped into someone whose lips literally knocked against his.
As cliché as it might sound, he certainly felt the electricity running through his body from that single accidental kiss.
And belatedly, a realization dawned on him.
He had bumped right into someone.
He, a ghost, had bodily collided with a living human.
Shocked, Steve stepped back and was at a loss for what to do next.
Then, a shaky voice shook him out of his trance.
"Harrington?"
Staring into those scared Bambi's eyes, Steve clenched his jaw and forced himself to not panic.
"Munson."

“Mama, are we almost there yet?”
You smiled softly at your daughter, cuddling as close to her sister as the seatbelt in the back of the car will allow her.
“Almost, Liv,” you say gently.
“Okay then, Mama,” your daughter sighs, her head falling onto her sister's, where she is snoozing on Olive’s shoulder.
You smile at your twin girls, who had been so good for you while you drove from your old home in rural Texas, to join their father in San Diego, where he has been more permanently stationed after the success of the last mission he had been called back to Top Gun for. The girls adored their father and it has been a hard couple of months without him, for all three of you. You know it has been hard on Jake too. He acted happy for the girls on their frequent FaceTime sessions, but you’ve known Jake too long to not catch the sadness in his eyes as he read them a bedtime story and watched them fall asleep without being able to tuck them into their blankets, smooth their hair back from their faces and kiss them goodnight.
Which is why you had packed up the girls, and all your essentials three days before schedule, so you could finally reunite with your beloved husband. You have been in contact with the only one of your husband's fellow pilots you’ve met, his friend Javy (or Coyote to his team), who let you know that the whole squad was having a beach day today, which is where you are headed now.
You look around at the houses on either side of the street as you follow the GPS to the location Coyote sent you, somewhere called The Hard Deck. He had texted you that you could park your van in the lot, and then go through the bar (which isn’t open this early in the afternoon, he assured you) to get to the beach on the other side.
Passing under a row of palm trees, you pull into the parking lot of the small beachside bar you have heard so much about from your husband and turn into the open spot in between Jake’s truck and a shiny Bronco.
Putting your keys in your bag, you open your door and climb out, brushing your long skirt out as you make your way around the front of the car to open the door your girls are sleeping next too.
Opening it gently, you brush you fingers through Charlotte’s dark blonde hair, so similar to her daddy’s.
“Lottie, baby, it’s time to wake up, we’re here,” you whisper to her. She stirs a little, blinking bleary green eyes up at you as a tiny hand comes up to rub her face. The arm movement jostles Olive, who picks her head up and yawns.
“Come on, my loves, can you undo your seatbelts and stand next to Mama, so I can make sure you look so pretty to see Daddy again?”
With that question, the identical faces of the best gifts Jake has ever given you light up, as if remembering where they are and why they had been driving in the car for two days.
Within seconds, your twins are standing side by side, bobbing up and down on their toes in excitement as you check that their adorable little matching outfits have not been wrinkled too much by the car ride. Once you re-tie Charlotte’s hair bow, which had come undone in the car, you take each of your daughters hands in each of yours and lead them into the empty bar.
Passing through the doors that lead onto the sand, your girls gape at the sight of the ocean sparkling in the late afternoon sun.
“Mama,” Olive says, mouth hanging open, “it’s so big.”
“Yeah, baby, it goes on for miles and miles.”
“Mama, mama, mama, look!” Charlotte bounces in place next to you and squeezes the hand she’s holding onto. “I can see Daddy!”
You turn to look where she’s pointing and sure enough, a tiny ways down the beach, you spot your husband, throwing around a ball with another man in board shorts. The man throws his head back and laughs at something Jake says.
“Mama, can we go! Can we do the surprise now, please?” Olive asks, so sweetly that your heart melts a little bit as you nod at your daughter.
“Go knock him over with the biggest hug ever, girls!” You say as you start walking again, releasing their hands so that they can run ahead.
✯✯✯✯
“Nice try, Bradshaw,” Jake yells to his friend as Rooster throws a particularly hard ball, causing Jake to have to side step to catch it.
“One day man,” Rooster grins, “one day, I’ll get you.”
Jake is just about to come up with a witty retort when he hears something he thought he wasn’t going to hear for another couple of days.
“Daddy!”
“Daddy!”
Two little voices he knows better than anything. Jake whips around in disbelief, forgetting Rooster and the game of catch in an instant as he spots his little girls running towards him, dressed adorably in little matching outfits.
Jake takes a few steps towards his girls and then drops into the sand just in time for them to come crashing into him, arms going round his neck and bodies thumping into him with such force, he goes sprawling back in the sand with his babies on top of him. He holds them there for a few moments, relishing in the feeling of them in his arms again, their puffs of laughter tickling his neck.
After a few moments, he sits up effortlessly, still holding onto the two five year olds and sets them onto their feet. Pulling out of the hug just far enough to look at their faces, Jake’s right hand comes up to stroke Olive’s hair out of her eyes while his left stays firmly around Charlotte’s waist.
“What are you doing here, you two?”
“We come early, Daddy!” Olive says, her little hand coming up to touch Jake’s cheek.
“Mama said we should surprise you!” Charlotte says, her voice muffled from where she’s pressed her face into her father’s neck.
“Did she now?” Jake asks playfully, looking up just as a pair of legs he knows very well stop in front of him. He lets his eyes trail upwards until they meet yours and he swears, he doesn’t think there will ever be a time where he isn’t affected by that beautiful smile.
“Hi Darlin,” he grins, letting go of his babies for only a moment to get to his feet before putting his hands on their heads as they wrap themselves around a leg each.
“Hey Handsome,” you smirk back, and Jake can’t help but close the tiny distance between you to press a kiss to your lips.
He feels so content in this moment, all three of his girls are finally with him after too long (in his opinion) apart, that it’s a bit jarring when Rooster’s voice breaks through his little bubble of happiness.
“I’m sorry, what the fu….rick is going on here?”
Jake laughs against your lips before pressing one last final kiss to them before pulling away and turning to see the rest of his team, save Coyote, gaping at him.
“What does it look like, Bradshaw,” Jake smirks, as Rooster rubs his ribs where Phoenix evidently elbowed him to keep him from cursing in front of the two little girls still hanging onto their father.
“It looks,” Phoenix jumps in, trying to sound mad, but failing because of the shit eating grin on her face, “like you’ve been keeping secrets, Bagman.”
You’re intoxicating laugh has Jake turing back to you, a betrayed look in his eyes, an over exaggerated pout on his lips.
“Baby?” He whines, purposefully making his bottom lip jut out and quiver slightly. You laugh again, leaning forward to kiss away his frown.
“Oh hush…..now, is your Daddy going to introduce us to the squad, or are we gonna have to report back to Grandma Seresin about his manners,” you say cheekily, leaning down to address the last part of your question to the twins. They both giggle and pull on Jake’s hands, while he stares down at his little family.
“Alright, no need to involve my mama,” he says, grinning, “who wants a ride over?”
Both of his daughters look up at him with matching grins, before Olive reaches up and starts shouting, “Sandwich, sandwich!”
“Oh alright!” Jake sighs dramatically, before taking her hands in both of his and swinging her up onto his back. Once he’s sure her little legs are locked around his waist tight enough that she won’t fall, he reaches down for Charlotte, and lifts her up to carry her on his chest.
With his daughters hanging off him like Koalas, and your hand in one of his, he leads you over to the little congregation of towels the gang had set up earlier that day.
Bob, Phoenix, Rooster, and Fanboy all rise to their feet from where they had been lounging, as Jake approaches with his family. Only Coyote remains on his towel, a fact which makes Jake smirk.
“Everyone, these are my girls,” Jake says, angling his body so that Olive is slightly visible, and Charlotte can see from where her head is back in his neck.
There’s a chorus of heys from the group and Jake feels one of Olive’s hands leave his neck, reaching up to wave at the pilots.
“This is my wife, Y/N Seresin, and these two beauties…..Can you say hi, and introduce yourself, sugar?” Jake asks Olive, bouncing a little so that she holds onto his neck again. She giggles lightly and Jake feels her nod against his shoulder.
“I’m Liv,” she says, “it’s very nice to meet you!”
She mispronounces her v’s slightly, but her greeting is so endearing that Jake witnesses all the pilots melt in front of him.
“And what about you, baby?” Jake asks Charlotte, angling his head so that he can see her face. She shakes her head slightly, her eyes so wide and innocent in her face.
“Are you sure, darlin?” Jake asks. His shy daughter just shakes her head, and turns her face, so that her face is hidden completely in her father’s neck.
“Okay….,” Jake murmurs to her, running his hand up and down her back in circles and turns to his group of pilots.
“This little one is Lottie,” he says.
“Coyote,” you say, taking the focus of the group off of your shy daughter as you call your friend, “are you gonna stay over there, or are you actually going to get up and and come say hello?”
“Ya know, I think I’m good where I am,” Coyote laughs from his seat, grinning.
“Uncle Javy!?” Olive asks, wriggling around in excitement.
“Yeah Livie!” Coyote grins, finally getting up from the ground and making his way over.
“Daddy, down please!” Olive chirps and Jake obligingly bends until his daughter can hop off his back.
The minute Olive is on the ground, she takes off running towards Coyote, and he leans down as she gets to him, and lifts her up, swinging her around in the air as her laughter explodes from her. After she's been swung around a few times, Coyote p uts her back in the sand and pulls you into a side hug.
✯✯✯✯
As the family reunites with each other, and some of the pilots go and begin chatting with Jake and his wife, Phoenix sidles up to Rooster and elbows him again.
"You good, Roos?"
The pilot turns his head to look at her, and she bursts out laughing.
"Oh come on, Bradley, is it really that shocking that Jake has a life outside of the navy?"
"Kind of!"
Phoenix goes to elbow her friend again, but he's ready this time, dodging out of the way as she goes for his ribs, the two pilots laughing as they join the rest of the group getting to know their newest members.

The Child
Tumblr media
She was here…
“Alastor! She’s here! In heaven!!!”
“Who Birdy?”
“Eudora!”
Huh?
“Oh, I HAVE to go meet her! I’ll get approval for her to come down and visit you too!”
His daughter was here…
Tumblr media
“Everything’s so bright up here…”
Eudora was in awe of the sights of heaven. Her jaw dropped for a moment while she looked around.
Emily giggled, “Yeah! It’s so great!!”
“Emily, there was someone I hoped you could help me find. Her name was-”
“Eudora?”
The woman could have been her twin. Sure, there were little differences here and there, but overall, the two were one and the same. Despite having never met her, Eudora could never forget the face of the woman in the painting in her family home—the woman who gave her life for her own. The woman was her mother, without a doubt.
“Mama?”
Tears welled in the singer’s eyes,
“Oh, my baby!!!”
The women rush forward in a crushing embrace. Y/n’s body shook from the sheer emotion of being able to hold her child for the first time. She finally got to hold her baby.
“Hi mama.”
“Hi baby.”
Tumblr media
A certain antlered man was a lot more quiet than usual.
Normally, Alastor would delight in the chaos that the hotel provided. Even Husk started to get anxious as that man hadn’t threatened him in a good three days.
“Soooooo, anyone know what’s wrong with smiles over there?”
“Now that you mention it, he hasn’t been meddling lately.”
“I’m taken it as a blessing.”
“Come on guys we should go see what’s wrong!”
“Uh Char, I don’t think that’s a good idea…”
“Why not?”
“Cause smiles ‘ll rip ya head off?”
“You don’t know that…”
“Okay maybe! But-”
The front door is opened and a golden glow floods into the space.
“Hi everyone I’m back!!”
“Y/n! I’m so glad your here! What’s wrong with Alastor?”
“What ever do you mean?”
“Well he’s been mopey for days!”
“Mopey? My husband? Really?”
“Uh Mama?”
Everyone freezes.
In the doorway is another angel.
She is the spitting image of their angel friend.
“Ah right! Everyone this is mine and Alastor’s daughter Eudora!”
Alastor has a what?
“The deer procreated?”
“The what?”
“Birdy is that you?”
“Yes my darling! Come here!”
Alastor’s heart stopped.
She was so beautiful.
“Hi Pop…”
“My little doe…”
The facade falls.
The members of the hazbin hotel watch as the small family is reunited.
The Child Is Home…

Hey can you please do a Jace Velaryon smut where she is Aemonds twin who is married to Aegon and has kids with maybe (like Helena in the show) maybe Aegon is a bit fond of her but ya know it’s still Aegon. Her and Jace were really close when they were younger and missed each other very much there is longing stares and lingering touches so at the dinner he asks her to dance maybe some jealousy and protectiveness from Aegon and Aemond and after the fight breaks out and everyone is sent to their chambers y/n goes to Jace to see if he is okay and clean his hand which is wounded from punching Aemond with complete innocent intentions but as she is there’s tension and stuff and Jace is completely inexperienced and is all blushing and the slightest touch can do things to him especially when it’s the girl he’s loved most of his life and it’s like very sweet and loving but then it’s like really intense and frantic.
Jace Velaryon*See You Again

The day that Jace left for Dragonstone you almost couldn’t control your sadness when you hugged him goodbye. “You’ll see me again,” he whispered into your ear, his head nuzzled into your shoulder.
“That does not stop my heart from already missing you,” You missed Lucerys and your sister as well but losing Jace was something you did not go a day without remembering. When you rode your dragon, you remembered the times you spent racing your dragon with Jaces and discovering small uninhabited islands off the coast. When you spoke Valyrian you remembered the countless times Jace had helped you practise your lessons. Every room, every hallway, every item in the red keep was stained with all the memories you had created with him.
At least you weren’t all alone. Your sister Heleana was your closest friend after Jace. You would walk the gardens with her as she found new bugs and you knew flowers. Aemond would help you with your studies and give you small gifts but despite how much you both cared for each other he was often closed off. While you enjoyed his silent company, he did not make you laugh how Jace had. Then there was your husband.
Aegon could be sweet, hell even funny. When he was sober. Which was rare. Even rarer after your mother had forced your union. She wanted the strengthen a claim Aegon did not even want. She had insisted that you would marry Aegon and Heleana to Aemond to secure the family. what Aemond confessed to you later was that your mother had done this in response to the suggestion that you wed Jace. She couldn’t stand the thought of mixing her blood with Rhaenyra’s. And you hated her for it.
Prior to this you had had issues with your mothers but when you found out it was her that trapped you in a loveless marriage out of her own selfish and foolish plans you would not respond to a word, she said to you. while she tried to force you to speak originally, she had practically given up after six.
When news came of Lord Coryls’s expected death no one seemed to care about his potential demise but rather what would happen to drift mark. It didn’t take long after finding out about him to find out about Rhaenyra’s arrival in Kingslanding. You were excited to see Jace again but it felt almost like your mother was deliberately keeping you away from Jace as it was not until you had to attend dinner that you saw him for the first time.
You were the second to last to enter the most awkward dinner known to man. A heavy silence hung over the air like a storm cloud waiting to thunder. All eyes turned to you as you walked through the door. yours glanced at Jace who looked away as quickly as your eyes met. He looked far different than before you noted. His shoulders had grown broad, and his jaw was strong. His dark hair framed his face perfectly. He looked like a dream. Hanging your head, you quickly walked to take your seat in between Jace and Aegon, Heleana on Aegon’s other side and Baela on Jace’s.
Aegon glanced at you but made no move to pull out your chair which you hadn’t even expected. however, as you went to pull your own chair out Jace stood suddenly. All eyes snapped to the now stranger as he silently moved past you to pull your chair out for you. A small smile crept on your lips which you quickly tried to hide as you sat down. Aegon scowled as Jace pushed your chair in before returning to his own. Jace gave you a small smile as he sat, his eyes darting to Aemond who you knew was likely wearing his famous glare.
The tension did not lessen when your father entered the room. The way he walked, the way he breathed, it looked so painful. What was a life in his condition? Despite the lack of love from him you couldn’t help but sympathise for the bag of bones they called a king. Viserys groaned and heaved as he forced himself to stand to deliver his speech. It was hard to look at him when he took off the mask but harder still not to laugh when he claimed to love you all.
Aegon had not been as moved by Alicent or Rhaenyra’s speeches as others. When Aegon leaned across you to ask Jace if he knew where to put it you contemplated where to stick your knife. “Stop it,” you whispered in his ear, your voice defeated and your eyes watery. For one dinner you wished not to be embarrassed.
“You may play the jester if you wish,” Jace took your hand under the table without so much as glancing at you, but his touch alone helped your tears dry, “but hold your tongue in front of the princess and my betrothed. A lord should not disrespect his lady with such talk,”
Aegon rolled his eyes and leaned back into his own chair, “Thank you,” you whispered to Jace who just squeezed your hand in return. After all these years with no words spoken, you didn’t even need to say anything to feel comforted by him. Aegon glared when he noticed your hand which you quickly slipped back but it was too late for him not to continue his wind up.
You scoffed lightly as he offered to show Baela a good time right in front of you, his wife, and your entire family. you avoided the pitiful look your elder sister gave you. however, when Jace slammed his fists on the table and stood the table fell tense again especially when Aemond stood. You glared at him, but he kept his gaze fixed on Jace.
“To Prince Aegon and Prince Aemond,” Jace awkwardly said as he reached for his own cup, “We have not seen each other in years but I have fond memories of our youth,” Jace looked down at you and your eyes locked for only a moment but it was enough to make you blush, “Some of the best memories I have are in this very castle,” he said, his gaze still on you as he raised his cup.
You were the first to join in on his toast, something that did not soften Aemond’s glare but finally made him sit down. When Jace sat down you glanced at your husband who was already half drunk and distant, your sister who sat sadly on her own whispering to herself, and Aemond who held so much anger for one person.
Aegon reluctantly agreed to Jaces toast and without really thinking when Jace sat you stood, “I would like to toast to Baela and Rhanya, they’ll be married soon,” you smiled as you raised your cup. “It’s not all bad. Mostly he just ignores you,” you placed a hand on Aegon’s shoulder, and he shrugged it off as if second nature. “Except from when he’s drunk,” you added, forcing a smile on your face as you raised your cup, “To a marriage filled with love, something many dream of,” you smiled before draining your own cup and taking your chair.
You did your best not to cry as the music began to play. Your thoughts were interrupted by Jace turning to you, “Would you care to dance princess?” he asked as he stood and extended his hand.
A smile beamed onto your face as you took his hand, “It would be my pleasure,” for the first time in years you finally felt normal again as Jace led you from the table to dance. You’d half expected a formal dance however Jace began to dance with you as you had as children. Your laughter ran across the room as you both began to jump, dance, and spin.
The night could’ve been perfect if Aemond hadn’t stood raising his own cup, “Final tribute,” he began and your heart sunk as he spoke, “Each of them handsome, wise,” he paused, his eye looking at you and Jace as a tense silence fell on the room, “Strong,” Your mother tried to stop him but Aemond was not vindicated yet, “Let us drain our cups to these three strong boys,”
“I dare you to say that again,” Jace said, and you felt yourself shrink back.
“Why?” Aemond challenged, “Do you not think yourself strong?”
You gasped as Jaces fist hit Aemond’s face then chaos broke out. Luke stood only to be hit against the table by Aegon. You rushed to his aid, pulling at your husband who back handed you in the process of you pulling him from Luke. You held your check as Luke was pulled away by a guard despite doing nothing wrong.
“I did not mean- “Aegon tried to speak.
“Save it,” You glared at him and turned just in time to see Jace being pulled back by a guard. You saw your mother pulling Aemond away so turned your attention to the guards, “Let them go,” you told them, but they hesitated. Grabbing one of their arms, you pulled it off Jace, “That is an order,”
Finally, they were released and Jace rushed to your side, his fingers going to trace the red mark on your face, “Are you okay?” he asked, his fingertips were feather light as they traced your skin.
“I’m fine,” you assured him with a sad smile.
The moment was once again ruined by Aemond who yelled, “Get your hands off my sister,”
Jace went to lunge again however this time Daemon stepped in. you however side stepped them all and walked up to Aemond, leaning up to glare at him as he looked down at you, “Why must you ruin everything?” You stormed off before your mother could send you to your chambers, but you knew that dinner was over.
Your anger had been bubbling over but after checking on your child and wandering the castle halls it soon mellowed back to sadness. After an argument like that you knew Rhaenyra would not be wishing to extend her stay. You would join her if you could. Anything to be away from this place.
Soon you found your feet leading you to Jaces chambers. You were filled with such a mix of emotions that you busted through the door, slamming it behind you, without knocking. “Princess I- “Jace stuttered as he stood from where he sat on the bed.
“What were you thinking?” You almost yelled.
Jaces eyes narrowed, “You know exactly what I was thinking he was trying to ruin me and my brothers- “
“He was trying to get a reaction out of you and look what you’ve done!”
“What I’ve done?” Jace walked closer to you, but you did not back down. “What about your brother?”
You shoved against his chest, but it did little to move him, “Oh please you didn’t have to punch him! And now thanks to you not using your head,” You said as you shoved a finger into his forehead. Jace swotted at your hand, grabbing it in his as he yanked it away, “I’m never gonna see you again. Are you happy?”
“Who said- “
“Please you really think your mothers gonna wanna hang around? What another six years and then we might have another dinner?” you pulled your hand back from his, jerking away from him to pace the room, “Or hey who knows maybe Viserys will die next week, hell tomorrow! And suddenly we’re at civil war. Then what?”
Jace sighed as you continued your rant but made no effort to stop you. anger washed over his face as you lashed out but unlike with Aemond he was able to hold it back, but the anger faded when he noticed the tears welling in your eyes, “This is about more than tonight,” Jace muttered.
Finally, you stopped pacing. Your shoulders heaved as you let out a heavy sigh, “I just don’t wanna lose you again,”
The words stung Jaces heart as your voice quivered out your trembling lips. Jace crossed the room to stand before you, taking your face into his hands, “You never lost me. Im right here,”
“Before you have to leave again,” You tried to escape his grasp, but he held your face in place.
“I swear to you,” Jace said as his thumb stroked over your cheeks and his eyes gazed into yours, “Not a day went by I didn’t think about you,”
“Or I you,” you confessed as you finally leaned into his touch, “I just wanted one good night with you,”
“The night is still young,” Jace said as you realised how close his face was to yours. His breathe fanned your cheeks as his hands fell from your face to your waist. Your hands found their place on his shoulders. They were broad and strong under your touch.
Jaces eyes glanced down at your lips. “We should make the most of it then,” you murmured, your hands slowly moving to the back of his neck. Jace shivered when your soft fingers touched his exposed neck but did not protest when you pulled his head down to yours, his lips falling onto yours.
The kiss was gentle as his soft lips pressed onto yours. Your fingers moved up his neck to his hair, gently scratching your fingertips through his silky hair. Jaces arms wrapped tighter around your waist, pulling you closer to him. Jace broke the kiss after a moment, his head resting on yours, “I’ve waiting a lifetime to do that,” he murmured as he looked into your eyes.
“I wish it for a lifetime more,” you said before pulling his lips back to yours. Your hands trailed down his arms, feeling his toned muscles through his shirt. When you took his hands into yours you felt him wince into the kiss. “What’s wrong?” you asked as you pulled back.
Jace gave a sorry smile as he lifted the hand, he had punched Aemond with up. You could see slight swelling on his knuckles and a slight bruise beginning to form, “I must not know my own strength,” he chuckled. You gently took his hand into yours as you inspected the bruised knuckles. Glancing at Jace’s face you could see a faint blush on his cheeks at your gentle touch. “It hurts a little, not as much as the target I suppose,”
“He deserves it,” you mumbled as you ran your fingers lightly over the swollen flesh, “I’ll wrap it for you,”
“I’ll be fine,” Jace assured you, but you ignored him as you began to rake through his stuff for a suitable fabric strip. You sat on Jaces bed with him as you wrapped his hand so he would not use it and cause further damage, “You always were so good to me,” Jace mused as you finally finished your wrappings.
You hummed at his words when you finally dropped his hand, missing his touch, “Just don’t go throwing any more punches around,”
“You have my word,” Jace said and for a few moments you just sat on the bed together looking into each other’s eyes. Jace looked at you with a gentle smile and adoring gaze. He took your hand into his non wrapped one, rubbing soft circles into your skin with his thumb. It was more tender than any touch you had received in the past years.
Slowly you began to lean in, glancing down at his lips, those beautiful soft lips. His smile widened as he leaned in as well to close the gap. His lips fell onto yours with perfect synchrony. It was soft at first, but you felt a craving rise through your chest. Soon your lips grew hungrier. Your tongue ran over his bottom lip and after a moment Jace let you gain entry. Jaces movements were unsure, but you moved your hand to hold his jaw before breaking the kiss only for a moment to climb into his lap.
Your lips crashed again as soon as you were sat. your hands held his face while his moved to your waist squeezing it lightly. You were slowly beginning to grind onto him during the kiss. Soon you began to feel his member harden under you. Jace moaned as your hips speed increased, rolling onto his erection with a quicker even pace. The way it felt over the clothes was already causing a wetness to form between your thighs.  Jaces breath caught in his throat as you grinded against him yet again and he pulled away gently from the kiss, “We should stop,” he said.
“Why?” you said, your lips soon going to press kisses along his jaw.
A dark blush fell across his cheeks, “I, well, I’ve never done this before,” he stuttered out, “I wouldn’t want to disappoint,”
Your kisses paused and you cupped his face into your hands, stroking your thumb on his cheek, “You could never disappoint me Jace,” Jaces eyes met yours briefly before they fluttered away in embarrassment, “I could teach you if you’d like,”
“Are you sure?” he asked finally meeting your gaze.
You pressed a kiss on his already swollen lips, “I’m sure,” You began to stand from his lip and Jace moved forward to try stop your absence, “Be patient,” you giggled at his antics causing a bashful smile from him. Your hands moved behind your back to work on the strings of your dress.
Jace cleared his throat from his place on the bed, “Would you like some help?” he stuttered slightly but not as much as before.
You turned around with a grin as Jace stood and began to unlace the fabric, “What a gentleman,” you praised as the fabric began to come loose.
Once the strings were undone you pushed the fabric off your shoulders and let it pool around your feet. You heard Jaces sharp breath from behind you and you bit your lip to contain your smile. Turning around, you rested your hands on his chest, “Thank you for the assistance,” you said, placing a kiss to his neck.
“It was my pleasure, I mean- “he stammered, and you cut his words off with a kiss.
Jaces lips moved but his body was tense against your bare one. You took his hand in yours, moving it to your exposed hip before snaking your own hands under his tunic, feeling his bare skin on your fingertips. Jace shivered at the feeling. “We can stop if you want to,” You assured him, but Jace shook his head.
“No please,” he pleaded, “I don’t want to stop. Please don’t stop,” you grinned at his words and pulled his head down to capture his lips again.
The kiss was frantic as you began to pull at the fabric of his tunic. Jace pulled back and quickly stripped himself of all his clothes. You bit back a chuckle at his eagerness. You took a moment to appreciate his lean body, his soft skin, and the sight of his exposed hard cock. It was longer than you had expected and already stood to attention. You took it into your hand and Jace moaned from just the touch. You kissed him as your hand gave soft strokes to his hard cock, running your thumb over the tip. He began to moan into the kiss which only made you want him more.
A whine left his lips when your hand moved off his cock, but he said nothing as you pushed his shoulders to make him fall onto the bed. Jace shuffled up the bed as you looked down at him. Once he was laying with his head on the pillows you began to crawl over him. You could feel Jaces eyes on your frame as you moved slowly up his body, places wet kisses over his skin. Your hands ran over his faint abs as your kisses arrived at his neck.
You left a trail of kisses up his neck, to his jaw, behind his ear, then finally to his lips. The kiss was feverish as you positioned yourself above him, his hard cock brushing against your wet cunt. You moaned as you felt it rub against you. “I need you, “You broke the kiss to whisper into his ear.
Jaces hands went to your hips, his eyes gazing into yours, “I don’t think I can wait much longer,” he said, his hips bucking up to try get friction against yours.
You kissed him deeply as you moved your hand to hold his cock. You rubbed the tip up your slit gently causing Jace to groan before lining it up with your entrance. You began to sink down slowly, gasping light as you felt yourself stretch to take him in. Jace broke the kiss as his eyes screwed up tightly, his breath ragged as he felt you. his hand gripped your hip tighter as you slowly sank down further taking more of him in.
Once you had finally took him all in you paused for a moment to adjust. Jace looked up at you in awe, the sight of you naked on top of him taking him so well. He couldn’t picture a better sight. “Can I touch you?” he asked, and you finally opened your eyes before nodding.
Hesitantly Jace moved to sit up slightly as he began to place soft kisses to the bottom of your breasts. You moaned at the feeling of his lips on your sensitive skin. Jace’s hand moved to hold your other breast, squeezing it lightly in his grip. Slowly you began to move, rolling your hips onto his.
Jace’s let out a loud moan at the feeling as your hips began to roll a steady pace, his cock twitching inside. “You feel so good,” Jace praised as he kissed your breast one last time before pulling your lips onto his. It was sloppy and messy, but his lips tasted like sweet honey as his tongue mixed with yours. Jace’s hand moved to grip your hip as his own hips began to buck up at the feeling. You did not stop his hips which began to buck up to meet your rolls, causing him to hit deeper spots.
Jace fell back to lay back on the bed, his fingers digging into the flesh of your hips even tighter as he began to fuck you from bellow. The sight of you bouncing up and down on his cock was almost enough to make him cum right there. But as Jace had to stop his arrival you were chasing yours as a knot began to build in your stomach.
You did your best to ignore the cramping in your thighs to chase your high, but you did not have to suffer long. Jace paused his thrusts for a moment only to push you off him and onto the bed. You giggled as you fell and grinned when he climbed on top of you. the grin was replaced by moans as he lined himself up and thrust into you again.
Jace’s head fell into your neck, pressing sloppy kisses into the skin. You felt your stomach tighten as he thrust into you, the new position changing the angle. Craving your high, you moved your hand in-between you, putting your fingers on your clit to start rubbing circles only to have Jace snatch your hand away. Before you could complain he replaced it with his own fingers which began to rub sloppy circles onto your wet clit.
His fingers were rougher than yours but the way they felt made your toes curl and your walls began to clench. Just as you thought the pressure would be too much Jace nibbled your neck gently and suddenly you felt yourself release around him, a whiny moan ripping through your throat. Jace groaned as he felt your walls clench around him, his own release not far away, but Jace managed to continue his sloppy thrusts through your high before he could not stop himself from releasing.
Jace’s face screwed up tight as his body went ridged. If not for the moan that came from his swollen lips you may have thought, he was in pain. His heavy breath fanned over your skin as he came, spilling inside of you, before collapsing on top of you. his sweaty frame pressed against you as you both tried to catch your breath. When Jace rolled off you, you quickly moved to curl into his side. “That was amazing,” you panted.
“Better than Aegon?” he asked with a slight smirk.
“So much fucking better,”

The Parent Trap 👨‍👩‍👧‍👧 | Lt. Bradley ‘Rooster’ Bradshaw Imagine
Inspired by Disney’s ‘The Parent Trap’
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Link to my TGM Masterlist
Characters & Pairings: Lt. Bradley ‘Rooster’ Bradshaw x novelist female!reader (romantic), Lila L/n and Caroline Bradshaw!OCs (daughters), Marilyn Brooks!OC (Bradley’s love interest), Ollie Tomas (platonic, Y/n’s bff), Pete ‘Maverick’ Mitchell (platonic) & Hannix (Phoenix x Hangman)
Content Warnings: fluff, light angst, profanity, pregnancy & childbirth, separated twins, second chance romance troupe, assault (reader punches a character) | female reader—afab!reader (she/her) | wc: 18k+ this is long folks.
Premise: It was quite literally love at first sight for aspiring aviator Bradley Bradshaw and writer Y/n L/n, but the relationship ended as fast as it started. It did result in the birth of their beautiful identical twin daughters, Lila and Caroline—but even they couldn’t keep them together. An agreement was made in the divorce, Caroline would grow up with Bradley, and Lila would be raised by Y/n so the former couple never had to see each other again. What neither anticipated, however, were the sisters coming face-to-face at summer camp the year they turned 14…..and forming the ultimate parent trap to reunite their parents for a second chance at love.
Note: I rewatched ‘The Parent Trap’ the other night and gosh I remembered how much I loved that movie as a kid. I immediately got to writing this because I couldn’t stop thinking about it. Just to be clear I do NOT support the idea of separating children especially twins & not tell them. This is of course for fictional purposes & I do not own Disney, The Parent Trap or the TGM characters. Hope you enjoyed! (Also I envisioned Dan Levy as Ollie when I wrote this & Margot Robbie as Marilyn😂
Thank you guys so so much for 1k!!!! I’m over the moon and cannot believe that I hit 1k just as I’m celebrating 1 year of coming back to this writing account and actually keeping up with works ! 🥹🥹 I love you all and appreciate all the kind words left on my stories 🤍🤍 you guys are the best!! — Bee 🐝

——————————————
“I know you’re upset, honey,” Y/n brushed Lila’s dirty blonde hair behind her ear, “But it’s for the best. Just think before you know it’ll be the holidays and then next summer I’ll fly you out there.” All she got in response was a sad nod, the fourteen-year-old turning to look out the window. Sunny California soon turned into cloudy New York as the plane traveled from coast to coast. The entire journey the novelist thought back to the past two weeks, which did nothing to heal her aching heart. Not only did she mourn leaving behind her second daughter, but she mourned what could’ve been with the man she thought she’d spend the rest of her life with almost fourteen years ago.
The one who made her believe in love at first sight.
In 2006, aspiring writer Y/n L/n was on the verge of college graduation, planning to move to New York City in hope of accomplishing her dream of becoming a New York Times bestselling author.
For as long as she could imagine writing stories was her escapism from the hardships of reality. A hopeless romantic, most of her work was romance—dabbling in fantasy or historical fiction from time to time but keeping a romance troupe involved. She first started writing fanfiction on the internet when it was just starting out, focusing on some of her favorite characters which resulted in her profile becoming popular with readers. It soon progressed to her attempting to write an actual novel.
The story she envisioned to write one day was keeping her up at night, so she finally sat her ass down the summer going into her senior year and started writing. In between classes and working at the campus library at UVA, where she was studying literature and psychology, Y/n was nose deep in her Apple iBook she literally got because of Elle Woods in Legally Blonde. Pages upon pages, the words flew from her mind and onto the screen, forming dialogue and descriptions. She didn’t know what would come of the book, unsure if she would even send it to literary agents and publishers once completed, but for now it was purely for her entertainment.
After all, look at Stephenie Meyer. Home girl wrote a book based on a dream and it turned out to be one of the bestselling series of all time.
Graduation came in a blur. Her plan was to go to the ceremony, get her diploma, and then head back to her place to finish writing. She was only a few chapters from being done. The last thing she wrote was the big twist which could be the make or break for the main character to be with the love interest, all that was needed was the resolution.
What Y/n didn’t expect that night was going to a party, at the insistence of her friend, and meeting who she believed was the man of her dreams.
Bradley Bradshaw was everything a girl would fawn over. Handsome, funny, flirty, the life of a party, who had dreams and aspirations. While his friends clowned him for having the typical 80s porstache, they secretly envied how well he pulled it off. Which was obvious by the amount of women throwing themselves at him.
Y/n’s friend had her eyes on him that night….but little did they both know, he had eyes for Y/n.
The second she walked in he was drawn to her. “Who’s that?” He asked his buddy, Fabian, interrupting him from his flirting with a pretty redhead. Annoyed, Fabian looked in the direction of Bradley’s gaze, catching Y/n in his line of sights.
“You talkin’ about the girl in the white pantsuit? That’s I think Y/n if I remember—we had psych 101 together ages ago. She doubled majored with English and worked at the library….” he raised a brow at Bradley, who was already walking toward Y/n with a determined look on his face.
Her friend Tanya spotted him first, immediately smiling with hopeful eyes. Only it fell to a small frown when she realized he wasn’t looking at her, but Y/n.
“Hi,” the greeting has Y/n turn around, red solo cup in hand and becoming puzzled at the sight of a gorgeous man standing behind her.
“U-uh hello.”
Bradley extends a hand, “I’m Bradley.” Y/n shakes it, both flinching when a spark ignites at the contact.
“I’m Y/n. Nice to meet you.”
“Nice to meet you too, Y/n,” he beams, now aware she wasn’t alone. “I’m sorry to interrupt, but I was wondering if you’d like to dance?”
“Oh um,” she glances at Tanya, seeing her saddened look and becomes apologetic. “I-I don’t know…”
“Just one,” he insists, “and then I promise to leave you alone afterwards.”
Y/n still appeared hesitant, not wanting to upset Tanya further, but the woman gives her a soft smile, “go on,” she takes the cup from Y/n, “I’ll be right here.”
“Are you sure?”
“Totally. In fact,” Tanya bites her lip when she connects eyes with a guy she had a class with the previous semester. One she thought was cute and wouldn’t mind getting to know. When he gives her a wave and gestures for her to come over, Tanya blushes, “I’ll be over there talking to Grayson. Take all the time you need.” She was already on the move before Y/n could say anything else, leaving her with Bradley.
“Sooo…” he holds out a hand, nodding his head to the makeshift dance floor in the middle of the house the party was at.
Heart racing, Y/n gives a small smile and takes his hand, letting him lead her to the floor. It was the first time a guy had asked her to dance at a party. Though she didn’t date or go out much in college, the times she did Y/n often got left alone because Tanya or one of their roommates/friends were hit on and she didn’t. Plus with school, work, and writing her book, a social life was pretty much nonexistent.
One dance became two, then three, and four. Before she knew it three a.m rolled by and she and Bradley had danced and talked the whole night, ending with the two sitting in the back of his Bronco with sonic Route 44s and milkshakes. Never had Y/n laughed as hard as she did that night, almost to the point of tears. There was warmth all through her veins, even after the two parted ways, only sharing a sweet kiss when he dropped her off at her apartment.
It was the closest thing she felt to love at first sight.
Maybe it truly was.
Things went by fast. Literally. So fast it was starting to make Y/n worried. Not only were the feelings getting stronger, but the terms of the relationship in general. Within a weeks they were living together, Bradley going as far as to propose to Y/n with the news of his commission into the U.S Navy.
“Marry me, Y/n,” he told her after the ceremony, the shiny Ensign ranks on the color of his uniform. “I know it sounds crazy, but I wanna share my life with you—every part of it. Till the day I die.”
Part of her was conflicted but the overwhelming love for Bradley had Y/n say yes. That weekend they were at the courthouse, exiting as Mr. & Mrs. Bradshaw.
But unfortunately the love story ended before it could really begin.
A few short weeks after the wedding, Y/n found out she was pregnant while Bradley was at flight school. It terrified her as much as it excited her. They were only twenty-two, with Bradley’s Naval career just starting out and Y/n trying to get her food in the door on hers. Having double majored in literature and psychology there were many career paths she could go into. Many would involve her having to get a Masters, but the couple were already paying off student loans from undergrad that she didn’t want to have to take out anymore financial aid.
Personally Y/n wanted to write books. She had yet to finish the one from college, with plenty more ideas safely tucked in her mind. The news of her pregnancy would have to put any potential job on hold.
Bradley was beyond excited when she told him, lifting her in his arms with glee, “I’m gonna be a dad!” His excitement was what really made Y/n look forward to bringing their baby into the world. She still had worries no doubt but having Bradley, who was now known to his fellow aviators as Rooster, made it easier.
But the couple were in for a much bigger surprise.
“TWINS?!” They both shrieked in the hospital room, eyes bulging the monitor showcasing two sacs in Y/n’s womb. Rooster nearly went into cardiac arrest, the woman bursting into tears which had him hold her tightly in his arms. Lips pressed to her head as he mumbled, “We got this baby. This is exciting! Just think, they’ll be best friends forever.”
“And it looks like,” the technician moved the wand across Y/n’s stomach a bit more to get a better angle. “You are gonna be blessed with two girls, Mr. and Mrs. Bradshaw.” That had Y/n cry even more, Rooster shedding his own at the excitement and love that filled him.
“Girls,” he breathed in awe, kissing all over his wife’s face making her cries turn into giggles. “We’re having little girls—I’m so happy, Y/n. I can’t thank you enough for giving me this gift.”
In April of 2007 Lila and Caroline Bradshaw arrived. Identical twins who literally could not be told apart unless they were dressed differently. So the couple bought matching necklaces with gold pendants on each with the letters ‘C’ and ‘L’ for each girl. That way they could always know who was who.
Named after his mother, Caroline was a daddy’s girl even as a newborn. The only time she ever really wanted Y/n was when she was hungry, other than that little Caroline wanted to be in Bradley’s arms. She’d fall asleep in them, whine if she were in someone else’s, and make grabby hands for him when he’d come home. Caroline’s personality resembled Rooster’s, literally the life of the party whenever people were over.
Lila on the other hand was her momma’s mini me. The name came from a character in Y/n’s book. Not the protagonist, but the best friend who Y/n enjoyed writing for more than the main character. It was a name she always loved, and the moment Y/n’s eyes landed on the baby girl the name was perfect for her. Opposite of her sister, Lila was quiet and reserved. She loved to be held by Y/n and would beg for her attention. Like Caroline was a daddy’s girl, Lila was momma’s angel.
Life seemed to be good. It was good.
But then when the twins turned six months, things started to sour. They were living in Virginia with Bradley assigned to the Golden Warriors and Y/n was at home taking care of the girls. She’d get a little bit of writing done within the week but had major writer's block. Almost twice a week she and Bradley were arguing over something whether it was money, work, or the girls. They’d go to bed with their backs facing each other, Bradley leaving in the morning with little to no goodbye and when he’d return home he’d be so exhausted the two would rarely talk like they used to.
It was apparent the honeymoon stage was over. Both realizing it just wasn’t working out and even with their daughters the relationship was becoming strained.
What really ended everything was the night of the officer’s ball. A disrespectful comment was made to Y/n about wanting to be a published romance author by one of Bradley’s superiors. And he didn’t stand up for her. In fact, the man had the audacity to laugh with the men.
Heartbroken and pissed off, Y/n threw her napkin onto the table and removed herself without permission to be excused. Everyone stared with wide eyes, Bradley’s superiors watching with disapproval and making snide comments to the licensed pilot. Now he was angry, feeling humiliated by the scene and raced after his wife with an apology to the guests.
When they got outside both were feeling the heat. Spitting off words that they knew were going to fuel the fire.
“What the fuck was that, Y/n?”
“What the fuck was that?” She repeated with malice, “How fucking dare you sit there and laugh while they insult me! I’m your fucking wife, Bradley—you’re supposed to stand up for me! Instead you humiliated me!”
The entire drive home they were silent. Rooster’s knuckles were practically white with how hard he was gripping them, Y/n breathing heavily to control the anger. Not even the radio was playing. Only silence filled the void of the impeding argument that was to continue when they got home.
The door of the Bronco slamming alerted the babysitter, the teenage daughter of their neighbors, who met them outside with a smile only to frown when Bradley stormed past her. “Is everything—,” she went to ask but Y/n stopped her.
“Everything’s fine.” It was far from fine but she didn’t need to know that. Y/n removed a small wad of cash from her clutch, handing it to the girl. “This is for you. Thanks for all your help, Molly.”
When Y/n got in she checked on her girls first and then met Bradley in the bedroom to get out of the god forsaken dress she started to feel claustrophobic in. It wasn’t even fifteen seconds later before the couple were at it again. They tried to keep quiet for the sake of their daughters asleep just down the hall but nothing could stop the shouts from escaping.
“What was I supposed to do?” Rooster throws his arms out, face red. “Tell him to shut the fuck up? I have to work with him, Y/n. I see him every goddamn day—you want me to make my life miserable? Cause he’ll make sure that happens.”
Y/n couldn’t believe what she was hearing. “Are you fucking serious, Bradley? You’re so worried about having to do more pushups than people or get hazed than standing up for me? Your own wife?! Yeah, I wanted you to tell him to shut the fuck up—I would’ve done it if was my boss! Because you’re my husband and I wouldn’t let somebody insult you like he did me!”
He sarcastically laughs, bringing his hands up to rub his face, “You know, you’re acting like a fucking lunatic right now.”
The comment had Y/n still, eyes widening as the alarms went off in her head. She waited for him to take it back, but when he didn’t all she could do was make a pained sound, turning away from him before the tears could spill. Exiting their room, Y/n went to the closet where they stored luggage. When she returned she had her large suitcase and a baby bag.
“What are you doing?” She ignored him, starting to throw random clothes in the bag from her dresser. Rooster, came around the bed staring at her in disbelief. “Y/n, what the fuck are you doing?”
“What does it look like, Bradley,” she hissed, still not looking at him. “I’m fucking packing and getting the hell out this house. And I’m taking the girls with me.”
“The hell you are!” He shouts, going after her when she enters the bathroom. “You’re not taking my daughters. Especially when I don’t know where the hell you’re going.”
“I’ll figure it out,” she gathers her makeup, skincare, hair care and shower necessities. “Maybe I’ll finally go to New York like I planned before I met you.”
“And what are you gonna do there?” He challenged from the doorway. Y/n felt her hand tighten over the first item in her hand, which happened to be a hair dryer. She could feel the words on the tip of his tongue, praying to God he wouldn’t actually say what would really tear her heart in pieces.
“Don’t you fucking dare.” But Bradley was too far gone before he could stop himself.
“Finish that book? The one you’ve been writing for almost three years and have yet to finish? And then actually get it published?” He chuckled sarcastically, breaking her soul when he added, “Yeah, sure you are. How about you wake up and start thinking about reality—where you should work on getting an actual career that’s gonna support your daughters instead of living in a fairytale.”
The hairdryer left her hand with a literal battle cry, causing Bradley to jump out of the way with a curse, the object hitting the side of his arm. When it bounced on the ground before stopping just by the bed, the couple stared at each other as though they couldn’t believe what had happened. Both were breathing heavily, Y/n’s makeup smudged with tears rolling down her face.
“Fuck you,” she whispered, seeing the immediate regret in his eyes, though no words of the sort followed. Y/n brought a hand up, turning away from him when he said her name. “Fuck you, Bradley.” She heard him leave, the door closing behind him allowing her to succumb to her emotions. The rest of the time she packed her things Y/n fought back sobs. She wouldn’t let him see her like that. That he had hurt her beyond what she could’ve imagined.
The way he took her dream and basically slapped her in the face with it. He knew she was dealing with writer’s block and had trouble focusing on the ending with having to take care of their girls. And not to mention she gave up her pursuits to follow him.
No more.
Zipping up her suitcases, Y/n picked up the wedding photo of her and Bradley. There were not many photos of them printed out and none were hung on the walls just because they would have to move with his job, but the two photos they did have were of their little courthouse wedding and the day the twins were born.
Tears rolling down her cheek, Y/n removed the photo from the frame and tore it down the middle before doing the same with the one of them and the girls. The piece with Bradley looking down at her in the wedding and the one of him holding Lila were folded and placed in her purse, leaving the one of her in her wedding dress and the one holding Caroline. She secretly put them in the drawer of his nightstand, letting him decide what he plans to do with them once she’s gone.
She couldn’t believe what she was about to do, but it was for the best in order for them to not have to deal with a nasty custody dispute. Already she could feel a bit of her heart missing. The piece reserved for Caroline.
After quietly packing Lila’s things, Y/n rolled her suitcases down the hall and placed the baby bag on top. Rooster was in the kitchen drinking a beer, ignoring when she came into the living room to gather all the things she had there.
“I have an offer,” she approached when she was done, keeping her gaze on the ground. Y/n feared she wouldn’t be able to say it if she looked into his eyes.
“What,” his voice was monotone, evident he was tired and wanting to get whatever argument out of the way so they could move on.
“I can’t stay here,” she told him, noticing him stiffening in the corner of her eye. “I just can’t, Bradley. We both know this was a long time coming and tonight was just the nail in the coffin. We’re not a good fit—we both want different things. And I can’t even look at you without wanting to scream.” She took a deep breath to calm herself, “I never want to see you again after tonight…so I don’t wanna have to go through a custody battle with you.”
“And how do you suppose that’s going to work out?” She could hear the heartbreak in his tone, getting tight with each word like he would explode if she took both girls.
Y/n let out a tired sigh, squeezing her eyes shut, “we both know Caroline prefers you, and Lila prefers me.” She waited for him to say something, but when he didn’t she knew he silently agreed. The next words that left her set in stone the next decade in a half of her life, “So I’ll take Lila with me and you raise Caroline. That way they have one of us and we never have to see each other again.” Again Bradley doesn't respond so Y/n softly says, “I’ll call a lawyer in the morning. For now I’m sleeping in the girls room.”
‘Come after me,’ she silently thought, a part of her hoping he would and convince her she was wrong and they could work this out.
‘Go after her,’ his brain screamed at him, not wanting to let go of the woman of his dreams.
But he stayed where he stood.
Twelve hours later the couple sat in the office of a divorce lawyer with papers drawn up indicating Y/n would have custody of Lila, retaining her maiden name and legally changing the girl’s to L/n, and Bradley would have custody of Caroline. They removed their rings, Y/n wiping away a tear when she did, before the two returned to the home to gather Y/n’s things.
Once the car was packed Y/n cradled Caroline while Bradley held Lila, the two facing away from each other to not show the other their emotion.
“I love you so much, sweet girl,” she whispered against Caroline’s tiny head, careful to not let her tears drop on her. Kissing her crown, Y/n softly said, “Our paths will cross again one day. But until then, I hope you have the best life and be a good girl for your daddy. You’ll always be my Caroline, my sweet girl.”
A few yards away, Bradley was saying his own words of love to Lila. “Promise me you won't give your momma too much trouble, Lila darlin’. You two take care of each other,” he kisses her forehead, eyes glistening with unshed tears, “I’ll see you again one day. I love you darlin’. You’ll always have a piece of me.”
The former couple barely glanced at each other or spoke a word the entire time Bradley was securing Lila in her car seat and Y/n reluctantly handing Caroline over. Her heart skipped, clenching at the same time Bradley surprised her by giving a soft kiss to her forehead, muttering for her to have a safe trip. Y/n only nodded, moving to the driver's seat and backing out of the driveway before pulling onto the road. Y/n finally allowed the tears to fall when she exited the gate for the last time.
When she got to her parents house roughly five hours later Y/n wanted to just go to sleep but her mind wouldn’t let her.
No, in fact, it wanted her to write.
The final piece of the book that had been nagging her for years finally played in her head. Everything from the dialogue to the final scene.
While her parents spent time with Lila, both of whom voiced their unhappiness with her decision to leave behind Caroline, Y/n’s eyes were focused on the screen in front of her. The only time she took breaks was to have dinner, use the bathroom, have downtime with Lila before putting her to bed, and share a glass of wine with her mother. Other than that, Y/n was writing until the early hours of the morning—going as far as to make edits to earlier parts of the book and change things she felt were unnecessary.
By the time the clock hit 4 am, Y/n was in need of a melatonin and 8 hours of sleep. But she was done. Done with the book she had spent so much time trying to get done. It was as though leaving Bradley was the awakening she needed to get it finished.
How fucking sad when one thinks about it.
That mid-morning, after popping a melatonin and sleeping for a few hours before having to tend to Lila, Y/n’s parents were visibly shocked by the difference in her behavior from the previous day. Of course Y/n was still deeply saddened by everything and they could tell it was affecting her, but there was also a sense of hope in her eyes. When asked about it all Y/n responded was, “I finished the book.”
Between looking for small two bedroom apartments in New York and part-time jobs, Y/n edited her book. For about six months she lived with parents, celebrating Lila’s first birthday where Y/n cried herself to sleep at not being able to do the same to Caroline. But then again, she had no one to blame but herself.
The break of a lifetime came a week after Lila’s birthday when Y/n finally got a response from one of five literary agents she had sent her inquiry to. “Hello Ms. L/n, Thank you for sending your inquiry. I’ve read your submission and am intrigued about your book. Please send me a copy of your full manuscript either through my email or a printed version to the address I have listed below. I’m interested to see what you have written and hope you get back to me soon. Sincerely, Yolanda Richards.”
Over the moon, Y/n sent a printed copy to Yolanda the next day. Nerves filled her with what the agent would think and if she would have her as a client. After researching for weeks on literary agents, Yolanda Richards was one of the best in the romance genre, with multiple NYT bestsellers under her name plus success at getting movie deals for the books. If Y/n became one of her clients it would be a dream come true.
The email came the following Friday: “Y/n, I am very pleased with your work and thoroughly enjoyed your story. Everything about it was captivating from start to finish. I would love to have you as a partner by representing you in getting your book published and on the market. Please give me a call or email me so we can set up an in-person meeting as soon as possible. I hope you accept my offer and I look forward to possibly working with you. Sincerely, Yolanda Richards.”
Almost 13 years later……Summer of 2021
Caroline’s heart was racing. She’d never been so nervous in her entire life than when the plane approached the New York skyline, the first time her hazel eyes had ever witnessed it. Even when she and her father were living in Virginia he seemed to avoid the city like the plague. Always insisting they go somewhere else for a vacation whenever she begged.
Now here she was at JFK airport about to meet the woman she dreamed of knowing all her life.
The whole journey Caroline thought back to the eight weeks of summer camp she’d just experienced. It was like fate had decided to work its magic on the third day when she came face-to-face with a girl who looked exactly like her. Though it’s rumored everyone has at least seven doppelgängers in their lifetime scattered across the globe, something about Lila L/n was different than a typical look-a-like. They were too alike physically. Dirty blonde hair with hazel eyes and standing tall at 5’5, the two were a carbon copy of one another with the exception of Lila having longer hair and bangs. “Actual twins” their campmates would say, but were complete opposites in terms of personality.
For example, Caroline dressed like she was going to the beach no matter the weather and had a knack for old music whereas Lila had more sweaters than t-shirts in her suitcase. Then Lila had an expanded vocabulary like she always was reading a poem in a fancy New York accent yet Caroline could barely tell the difference between there, their, and they’re. Lastly, Caroline was laid back and the extroverted jokester of the camp compared to Lila’s reserved, introverted, goodie-two-shoes nature.
Their rivalry was bound from the start. The end of the first week had the two already pissing off the counselors with the pranks against each other and their friend groups. Halfway through the camp duration was when the counselors had enough and placed them in the isolation cabin to settle their differences.
It was in the isolation cabin where suspicions became realizations.
First it started when both admitted to having a peanut allergy and their favorite food was chicken Alfredo pasta. They both loved romantic comedies and playing piano, neither a fan of licorice or dill pickles.
Finally feeling a friendship starting, Caroline complimented Lila’s necklace, who said it was a gift to her on the day she was born and had her initial on the pendant. Voicing the same, Caroline showed her own necklace with the same pendant only with a ‘C’ on it instead of ‘L’. That’s when Lila asked what day Caroline was born, both confirming they had the same birthday of April 21st, 2007.
Heart pumping with an feeling she couldn’t explain, Caroline revealed she was raised by her dad, who was a Navy fighter pilot and they were currently living in San Diego. “It’s only ever been me and him. He said he and my mom split when I was six months old.”
“No way,” Lila sat up in her bed, feeling the same emotion as Caroline. “I was raised by my mom. We moved to New York when I was a year old and have been there ever since. She told me when I was ten she and my dad divorced when I was six months old and he was in the Navy.”
Pushing aside her bag of hot Cheetos, Caroline began asking a series of questions. “My dad never said much about my mom, but at least once a year would give me some details of what she was like when I begged him. He said one year she had dreams of becoming a writer. What does your mom do?”
Lila’s eyes widened, “She’s an author—she’s written over ten romance novels.”
“Did your mom ever tell you how she and your dad met?”
“They met in college—at a graduation party to be exact. He asked her to dance.”
By now Caroline was gripping her hair, “Did they go to sonic afterwards where they had milkshakes and—.”
“Route 44s,” Lila finished, covering her mouth slightly. The reaction had Caroline racing to her desk to rummage through the drawer. When she faced Lila again, she was holding something to her chest.
“When my parents divorced my mom left behind two ripped photographs. One is of her holding me as a baby, the other is of her wedding day with my dad. They make up halves to a photo—but I‘ve never seen the rest. My dad doesn’t even know I have them.”
Gasping, Lila goes to her own desk and takes out a folder. Flipping through pages she gathers the two images in her own hands before turning back to the teenager. “These are the only photos I have of my dad. Like you, one is of him holding me in the hospital, the other is him in his uniform from the day he married my mom. They were ripped down the middle from the original photo.”
As though they read each other’s mind, the two started walking toward each other, already tearing up at the possibility that what they suspected was true. “On the count of three,” Lila softly said, “we show each other. Okay?”
“Okay,” Caroline agreed with a nod. They started to count down.
“One,” Lila took a step forward.
“Two,” Caroline echoed, mirroring her movement.
“Three!” Gasps left both girls when they extended their arms, each holding a half of the photograph, and slowly put them together. One showed Y/n and Bradley on their wedding day, smiling at each other looking as though they were the happiest people on earth, the other of them holding their daughters. Caroline in Y/n’s arms, and Lila in Bradley’s.
“That’s my dad!” Caroline beamed, in disbelief at the sight before her. There her father was with the beautiful woman she dreamed of meeting. Her mother.
“That’s my mom,” Lila sniffed, the teen overcome with emotion. Once they gathered themself over the initial shock they both couldn’t help but shout, “We’re twin sisters!!” Embracing in a hug filled with glee and laughter.
The idea that came to their head moments later was crazy, but after talking and voicing how they want to meet the other’s parents, the decision was made. Caroline and Lila would switch places. And they were gonna get their parents back together.
Lila told Caroline how their mom was a hopeless romantic at heart despite not having a long term relationship since their dad. The same was for Bradley apparently, Caroline confessing he only had maybe three serious girlfriends but the relationships ended because they couldn’t handle the lifestyle he was in. Or the fact he was a single father.
For the next four weeks the twins learned all about the other’s life and what to expect. “Mom wrote her first book in college around the time she met dad, but she didn’t get it finished until after they divorced. Since then she’s written ten novels—including a trilogy about to be adapted into a movie series and is currently working on a sequel to her debut book that her supporters have been begging for her to write for years. Most of her inspiration comes from what she hopes to experience,” Lila pauses to make a face, “Now that I think about it actually, her second book almost resembles her love story with dad….it’s the only one without a happy ending.” That had the twins frown, feeling more determined with their mission of getting their parents back together.
“This is the Dagger Squad,” Caroline showed Lila the pictures on her phone when the counselors gave them back for the weekend. “My dad went on a special mission two years ago before the pandemic and became friends with the people he did it with. Phoenix,” she points to the pretty brunette pilot, “well Natasha, I’ve known her since I was a baby. She and her husband have been friends with dad since flight school. And this is Maverick,” she scrolls to the next picture of her with a middle aged man in a flight suit, “He’s basically like our surrogate grandpa since dad’s parents passed away a long time ago. They were estranged for some time but became friends again after the mission.”
Lila explained the layout of their mother’s Manhattan home where they along with Y/n’s parents lived. “We always sit down to eat in the dining room as a way to have family time since mom is usually in her office writing or in meetings,” Lila explained before naming off the people in the photographs she had laid out in front of Caroline. “This is Ollie, mom’s best friend and writes romantic thrillers—he was our roommate when we first moved to New York and is often at the house more than his own. Yolanda is her literary agent who is in charge of selling mom’s books when she’s completed them and most recently got a movie deal on mom’s best selling trilogy. I call our grandmother ‘Gran,’ and our grandfather, ‘grandpa’.”
Both girls were the subject of a slight makeover with Lila having to cut her hair shorter, and Caroline getting bangs. When that happened they really were identical twins with the campmates not knowing who was who. Caroline practiced mimicking Lila’s NY accent and taught her the words to ‘Great Balls of Fire.’
“This is ridiculous,” Caroline complained when she was unable to whistle like Lila. “Is this really necessary?”
“Every teenager in New York has had to hail a cab at some point. If Mom is on the phone then I have to be the one to catch the cab—and whistling is gonna get you one more than just waving like an idiot in the middle of the street.”
Last thing to do was exchange plane tickets. Lila to SAN and Caroline to JFK.
They hugged each other goodbye, wishing the other good luck and not to forget certain things. They mostly had everything written down so they were confident they could get everything memorized by heart before they landed at their respective destinations. Caroline felt odd having to wear a long sleeve in July, but the weather for New York was cloudy with cool temperatures so she felt safer wearing the outfit Lila had picked out. She wasn’t the only odd ball, Lila was having to get used to wearing the tank top and pink Hawaiian shirt with shorts—something she never thought she’d ever wear.
They even had to exchange phones considering Lila had the lilac iPhone 12 Pro Max and Caroline had her trusty red iPhone 7 Plus. “Hey it works fine,” she defended, “until I either crack it beyond repair or it just doesn’t turn on one day then I will keep this till the end of time. So be careful with it.”
Promising to text everyday and call at least twice a week, the girls went on their way. Caroline fidgeted in her first class seat, trying to go over her notes to pass the time since it would only be a few hours for her flight compared to Lila’s cross country trip. But when the New York skyline filled her vision, the teenager was in awe.
If she wasn’t so excited she would’ve vomited from the anxiety consuming her. With her backpack on her shoulders and duffle bag in her hands, Caroline did her best to navigate through JFK until she reached the baggage claim. There her stomach did flips at the sight of Ollie waving frantically at her.
“Lila bean! Over here!” Grinning wide, she raced over to the man and was lifted into his arms. “Finally you’re back! Ugh you have no idea how crazy it’s been without you,” he set her down, making movements with his hand, “I’ve had no one to discuss the latest season of Bachelor in Paradise with because your mom’s been so nose deep in her work the whole summer—I’ve been trying to get her thoughts on if my next book should be a sexy twist on the show where every contestant has a dirty secret and one of them is a literal serial killer but she won’t budge from that computer. It’s been the only thing to distract her from being sad with you not being there—and oh my goodness,” he suddenly gasped, making her flinch, “What did you do to your hair?”
“Oh u-uh,” she stuttered nervously, praying her accent was believable. “A girl from camp cut it. I wanted to try something new. Do you like it?”
“You look fabulous,” he complimented, letting his finger run across the ends of her hair. “It suits more than I thought—you’ve always preferred it long.”
“Well I thought with me entering high school next month I was due for a change.”
Ollie gave her a look once over with an approving nod, “I dig it. Now c’mon—let’s get your bag and head out before this place gets too chaotic for my liking. Plus your mom has been texting me every ten minutes wanting to know if you’ve landed and it’s becoming exhausting.”
Caroline had to hold back cheering in victory when she successfully whistled, catching the attention of a cab driver for the pair. The drive there she was bouncing her knee, taking in the city causing Ollie to look at her confused, “My goodness, eight weeks you’re gone and it’s like you’ve never seen the city before. I promise you it’s the same as you left it.”
The teenager couldn’t help but mentally laugh at the comment, ‘little do you know….’
Arriving in Manhattan Caroline turned giddy. Before Ollie could stop her she was out of the cab with her backpack and duffle, leaving him to get her luggage as she hauled up the stairs to the three story townhouse. The door was unlocked and so she took a deep breath before pushing it open only to gasp by the beautiful interior of the home with a spiral staircase leading to the higher levels.
Setting aside her things, Caroline began to explore the ground level in hopes to find her mother or grandparents. Movement in the corner of her eye caught her attention, the teen entering what appeared to be a study with various bookshelves and framed photographs on the walls. A man was standing up with his back toward her, appearing to look for something particular in his bookshelf.
Caroline’s heart skipped at the realization it was her grandfather. “Hi, grandpa,” she exhaled, causing the man to spin around. Immediately he was in delight.
“Lila! You’re back!” She met him in the middle as he came around the desk, the two embracing. “And you cut your hair, my gosh! You look so different—but great!”
Taking in his scent, the older man looked at her confused before she said, “Sorry, I just missed the smell of your peppermint aroma at camp.” He laughed lightly, rubbing her back with his hand.
“Oh honey we all missed you too.”
“What’s all the commotion?” A female voice entered the picture, Caroline grinning when her eyes met her grandmother’s. The older woman gasped before her own smile took over, “Oh Lila!”
“Gran!” She raced over to her, meeting her in a hug. “I missed you!” The two held each other for a moment, her gran voicing the same and complimenting her new look just as her grandfather did.
Then Caroline heard her. “Lila darling?”
Freezing against her gran, Caroline felt her heart race. Slowly removing herself she hesitantly went to the middle of the foyer. Just as she appeared in the photographs, Y/n was as beautiful as Caroline pictured her to be. Dressed in a cashmere sweater dress, she looked radiant as the light from the window hit her. Hazel eyes shining from unshed tears, Caroline whispered in awe, “Mom.”
“You’re back!”
Just like in a movie it all felt like slow motion as Caroline ran up the stairs while Y/n descended, meeting halfway in a tearful embrace. The hug lingered with Caroline never wanting to let go, a faint sob escaping from the back of her throat and the tears falling down her cheeks—no doubt ruining the mascara she wore. But the teen didn't care. Not when she was in the arms of her mother at last.
“I can’t believe it’s you,” she whimpered when they pulled away, Y/n moving to brush a finger off her cheeks.
“And I can’t believe it’s you,” the writer chuckled, letting her eyes run over her daughter she believed to be the one she raised. “Look at you, your hair is so short!”
“A girl cut it at camp for me—do you like it?”
“I love it!” Y/n assured with a smile, “You look amazing—I’m surprised that’s all. And..” Y/n tilted her head a bit, “are you wearing mascara?”
“Oh yeah,” Caroline sniffed, moving to swipe under her eyes. She forgot already that Lila wasn’t into makeup like her. “A friend I made at camp wanted to see how my eyelashes looked with it since they’re so long. I forgot I had it on.”
“Oh no worries, honey. I don’t mind you wearing it if that’s what you’d like.”
“N-no it’s okay. I don’t really think it’s my thing, m-mom,” Caroline felt another wave of emotion at saying the word ‘mom,’ making Y/n frown with concern.
“What’s wrong, my love?”
“Nothing,” Caroline’s voice cracked. “I’m just so happy. I missed you so much.” Y/n awed, pulling her daughter into another hug.
“Oh honey I missed you too. It almost feels like it’s been forever.”
Caroline squeezed her eyes shut as she nuzzled against Y/n’s shoulder, “you have no idea.”
Two weeks went by of the twins living their dream. Caroline explored New York City by accompanying Y/n to her meetings with Yolanda and watching Bachelor in Paradise to not have Ollie suspicious of her. Slight worry came with how her grandfather seemed to let his eyes linger on her whenever she said something unlike what Lila would say. Three thousand miles away Lila was having difficulty being so social with their father’s friend group—her introverted self needed to get away in order to recharge at times which had Phoenix and Hangman start to question her.
“Did the social butterfly in you burn out at camp, little chicken?” Jake teased one day, “I’ve never seen you this quiet in a single week.”
Lila put on her best face, hoping he wouldn’t see right through it, “You would not believe how exhausting it was dealing with so many people on a daily basis. There were times where I dreaded going to activities and preferred staying in my cabin. They were rambunctious I tell you.” Her choice of words had Natasha eye her, bidding a look to her husband, moving closer to whisper, “Did she just use the word rambunctious?”
It seemed like everyone but their parents were beginning to catch on. The first to figure out were Nat and Jake when Bradley confessed to his daughter, who he believed was Caroline, that he was planning on proposing to his current girlfriend Marilyn Brooks. Caroline had warned Lila that their father was seeing Marilyn, but believed it wouldn’t last till the end of summer. Upset and panicked on what to do, the teenager bursted outside of the Hard Deck and began ranting to herself, accent slipping out and unaware the couple were there the whole time.
“You got something to share with the class, Care Bear?” Nat approached, head tilted down at the teenager who’d gone pale. “Because you seem to be in distress.”
“Phee, Jake,” Lila placed a hand on her chest to calm her breathing, “You both gave me a fright.”
“We gave you a fright?” Jake repeated in confusion. Never had Caroline used expressions like that before, making them more confused.
“Y-you scared me. I-I didn’t know you two were out here.”
“Are you sure you’re alright, Caroline?” Natasha crossed her arms. “Because ever since you came home….you’ve been acting odd. Your appetite’s changed, you’re not as social, Charlie doesn’t want to come near you anymore” she listed off her fingers, Charlie referring to Nat and Jake’s dog who adores Caroline. “And you use these big words now.”
“And just now it sounded like you were straight from New York or something,” Jake added, “And not in the way when you impersonate it on Head’s Up, it was like it was natural for you.”
“Jake, Nat….” Lila thought rapidly to deflect. “I changed a lot over summer—my friend’s from there and helped me perfect it.”
“Alright,” Jake shrugged, “Man if I didn’t know any better I’d say you were—.” Nat slapped his arm, eyes wide with a knowing look causing him to shut up. Jake gave a tight smile to the teen, “Ignore me, I’m just being stupid.”
“Almost as if I were who?”
Natasha shook her head, “No one, Care Bear. Forget we said anything.” As the two went to go back inside, they were stunned by what the girl said next.
“Almost as if I were….Lila?”
Chills appeared on their arms, the couple slowly turning to face her again with eyes full of shock. Both were thinking the same thing: did Rooster finally tell her?
“Y-you know about Lila?” Nat whispered.
The confession rolled off her tongue, “I am Lila.”
Jake dropped his bottle of beer, the glass shattering against the wood while Nat’s hand flew to her mouth. Just as they were about to spit off the millions of questions in their head, Rooster appeared looking relieved to find the teen. “There you are, Care. Why’d you run off like that—I needed to talk to you.” Noticing the way his friends were looking as though they wanted to cry, Rooster then said, “Guys….why are you staring at her like that?”
Seeing Lila shake her head, begging them not to say anything, the two apologized and excused themselves. Later that night Lila asked to stay at their house after getting into an argument with her father about him getting engaged, where she then explained everything after a tearful reunion considering the couple hadn’t seen her since she was a baby.
“Caroline is in New York with our mom,” the confession had the two nearly faint. “We switched places at camp, which I cannot believe fate actually brought us together that way—and we’re hoping to get our parents back together because I know my mom still loves him despite all these years they’ve been separated. But now he’s engaged to that wretched woman who I know is gonna ruin his life. I-I have to call her and get them here now!”
Phoenix gently calmed the girl down, “Lila, it’s almost midnight over there. Call her tomorrow and then we’ll figure something out together.”
The call to Caroline is what got her found out by their grandfather. She was sitting at a picnic table just down the road after jumping from her seat at the dinner table. Unbeknownst to Caroline, her grandfather had followed her.
“I thought you said they would be broken up by the time I got back!” Lila shouted on the other end of the phone.
“Well that was the hope,” Caroline voiced back, “Usually he’s with them for a few months to a year—but Marilyn’s just…ugh I can’t even explain so it surprises me she’s lasted this long.”
“Well now she’s looking to become our stepmom! You have to get mom here to San Diego so we can stop them!”
“No way I’ve barely had time with her, Lila,” Caroline argued. For five minutes the twins go back and forth before ultimately hanging up. When Caroline rose from the bench she bumped into the gentleman behind her, “Oh I’m sorry, sir.” The man turned around, the familiar face staring back causing her stomach to drop. “Oh boy.”
“Oh boy,” he repeated, tsking. “How about we take a walk while the fresh air is nice?” Coming clean, Caroline told her grandfather everything from the day she arrived at camp to the day she left as Lila. Thankfully he wasn’t angry, in fact the man was overjoyed at the news.
Now it was time to come clean to the rest of the family.
The next morning Caroline was pacing in front of Y/n’s office before knocking on the door and waited for her to respond. “Come in.” Looking over the edge of her computer, the woman smiled at her daughter. “Hey darlin’, I’m almost done with this paragraph. What do you say about us going to that gyro place you like for lunch?”
“Mom,” Caroline fidgeted with her fingers. “I need to talk to you.” When Y/n continued to type, she said with an edge in her voice, “Right now. Please.”
Taken aback by the tone, Y/n saved the document and closed out before standing from her chair. “What is it, Lila?”
“That’s what I need to talk to you about,” seeing her confusion, Caroline’s eyes glistened. “Lila.”
“Yessss? That’s the name I gave you the day you were born.”
“N-no!” Caroline finally snapped. “That’s not the one you gave me, mom.” That had Y/n puzzled, looking at her daughter with wide eyes. Lip quivering, the teen finally came clean, unable to hold it any longer. “I’m not Lila.”
At first Y/n didn’t seem to react, until a soft gasp left her as the look of absolute shock took over her expression. Her eyes filled with water, hands beginning to shake, “You’re…You’re Caroline?”
“Yes,” she nodded, a tear rolling down her cheek. “You and dad sent Lila and I to the same camp. We met there and….well I just really wanted to meet you a-and Lila really wanted to meet dad and please don’t be angry with us, I—.” The teenager was cut off by the sob Y/n let out as she took her in her arms.
“Oh my sweet girl,” Y/n cried, letting 13 years of pent up regret, sadness, and shame finally release. “Oh Caroline.” The teen’s arms wrapped around her waist, nuzzling her face into her chest as her own tears spilled. Finally it felt like a weight had been lifted off both their shoulders. Mother and daughter reunited. “I can’t believe It’s actually you—my sweet girl.”
A tearful reunion even had Ollie emotional, the author being consoled by Y/n’s father in the doorway along with her mother. “I-I’ve never been so happy in my life. O-oh my gosh this is the best day ever!” As he cried, Y/n’s father gave her a heartfelt look before gently closing the door to allow them some privacy.
“No offense, mom—well actually slight offense,” Caroline said after explaining the situation of why the twins switched places—keeping out the fact they were planning to reunite the adults in hopes of the two getting back together. “But this whole thing was not it. I mean, c’mon, were you ever gonna tell us?”
Y/n looked deeply ashamed, wiping away at her face constantly, “I know it was wrong of us. Believe me I’ve regretted it every second since the day I left. Keeping you two apart was the worst thing we did and I hope you girls can forgive us. I let my personal issues with your father get in the way—a-and I should've never left you behind. You have every right to be angry,” Y/n paused to grab a tissue. “I honestly hoped to tell you two one day—possibly when you two were sixteen, but then I just didn’t know how to approach that after keeping it hidden so long.”
Caroline took it all in, asking the next question. “So what now?”
Y/n sighed, “Well legally you’re supposed to be with your father, and Lila with me. So we’ve gotta get you back to him. Then we go from there,” she placed her hands on Caroline’s shoulder before pressing a soft kiss to her head, “But I promise you no more secrets. And I’m not letting you go again, honey. We’ll get everything under control.”
Packing for California had Y/n a damn mess. She didn’t know what to wear and went through several options before settling on a fashionable white dress that would do well with the California heat. The sight of her was quite entertaining for Ollie, but was doing his best to offer moral support because she was really starting to lose it.
“What the hell am I supposed to say when I see him?” Y/n waved her free hand. She had sunglasses on her face and curlers in her hair with a glass of wine in one hand as she threw random stuff into a suitcase. “It’s been nearly thirteen years, Ollie. And our last day married was anything but a good parting! I-I mean I know nothing about him except from what Caroline has told me.” A warm feeling flared in her chest. “She says he’s still got that damn 80s stache—gosh what that did to me when I was with him. Only he could make a girl weak in the knees sporting something most men look horrid in.”
“Sounds like he could still make you weak in the knees, babe,” the comment resulted in a glare. “Look, you’re thinking too much alright? Just take a breather and think about the girls. This is for them at the end of the day.”
“I know,” Y/n rubbed her face, downing the last bit of wine in her glass. “Ollie, darling, I can’t go about this on my own. Will you—.”
“Accompany you to sunny California to keep you sane as you embark on this journey of reuniting with your former sexy pilot lover?” At her nod he winks and pulls out his phone showcasing his boarding pass. “Already got it booked, babe. Maybe I’ll find my own Romeo on this trip. Lord knows I have a thing for surfers and skaters—but there's a difference between New York skaters and California ones. I should know…I’ve dated both.”
When asked if she had talked with her father, Caroline subtly lied, “Oh yeah I just got off with him. Says they have our rooms reserved at the Hilton Resort in Palm Springs. He’s excited to see you.”
“He is?” Y/n raises a brow, not finding it believable, and trying to contain the flutter in her stomach. “Well, we should be on the way then. Sweetie, could you check us into our flights while I help Ollie pack the Uber?”
The man trailed after Caroline with a cheeky look, whispering under his breath so only she could hear, “liar, liar, pants on fire.” Caroline spun around to see her mom was turned the other way, bringing a finger to her lips with a wink, “shuuuush!”
When Lila brought the idea up for her and Rooster to go to Palm Springs for the weekend, the plan did not include bringing Marilyn and her parents. Thankfully Phoenix, Hangman, and Charlie tagged along too. The couple was in on the plan and only ones to know besides Lila that Y/n was just a few short hours away from arriving. They timed it so when she and Caroline landed at the airport, they’d already be checked in and waiting at the resort.
“Be warned,” the text from Caroline appeared on the phone. “Mom is DRUNK. She had two cocktails on the plane and had us stop at a liquor store to get some mini airplane bottles.”
“Oh no,” Lila moaned, causing Nat and Jake to look at her in question while Rooster was busy meeting Marilyn’s parents for the first time. She showed them the text, both reacting the same, “This is gonna be interesting.”
Charlie started to whimper, picking up a familiar scent and pulling Lila across the lobby with the couple chasing after them. Meanwhile in the elevator, Y/n remembered she left her purse on the counter. “Crap, I forgot my bag,” she giggled, stopping the closing door and moving as fast as her heels and disoriented state could take her. While she was busy gathering her lost item, Lila came around the corner with Charlie, the dog barking at the sight of Caroline in the elevator.
“Charlie!” She squealed, the animal bolting from Lila’s grasp and into the elevator before it could close. The twins connected eyes just as the door shut, Lila mentally cursing though she couldn’t help but feel a sense of excitement in her.
“Oh shit,” Jake mumbled with wide eyes, pulling Natasha to the side right when Y/n approached.
“Mom!”
“Oh, you didn’t have to wait for me, sweet girl, I can find the room by myself,” Lila literally had to step away from her Y/n, who had yet to realize it was Lila giving the twins decided on wearing similar outfits. She reeked of alcohol. Caroline wasn’t kidding when she warned her their mother was drunk off her ass. Besides the smell and her slight slurring words, Y/n was having trouble keeping her eyes open, “You go on up, okay? I’m gonna check out the bar real quick—have a glass of water while I’m at it.” As Y/n went to walk away she turned around with a tilt of her head, “I like that jacket by the way—were you wearing that on the plane?”
“Mom, watch out!” Lila shouted as Nat gasped with her when Y/n nearly collided with the bellboy.
“Oh goodness,” was all the author had to say, giving an embarrassed glance to her daughter before turning the corner away from their sights. Jake couldn't help but laugh, Nat holding back her own as she and Lila stared at each other in disbelief.
“The one time she should be sober and she’s completely wasted!” Lila exclaimed with a laugh at the end. “I’ve only ever seen her have one glass of wine at dinner—now she’s looking to run the bar dry.”
Phoenix shook her head with a smile, “Yeah well let her have her fun before all hell breaks loose.” Guiding Lila to the elevator, they all head to the floor where their rooms were.
Meanwhile Rooster and Marilyn had the same idea.
Attached to his arm, the woman was on a rant about what she thought was best for the lavish wedding she desired. Rooster just smiled and nodded, allowing the blonde to have creative control since he had no idea what to say. His first wedding was at a courthouse, nothing extravagant.
“Alone at last,” She hummed in relief, lips going to his neck as she giggled while his arms went around her waist. Bradley mirrored her expression, only it soon went to one of absolute shock when his gaze landed on the woman he never thought he’d see again.
Y/n was in front of him, looking like an angel in white as she stopped short in front of the elevator when they locked eyes. A hesitant smile appeared on her lips, hand coming up to wave as Bradley started to lean away from Marilyn as the doors shut, wondering if his mind was playing tricks on him.
But no, his ex-wife was really there.
“Bradley?” Y/n heard the blonde’s voice just as the doors closed, the last thing she saw could best be described was her ex-husband looking at her like she was an actual ghost. Like he didn’t expect her to be there at all.
That put the pieces together.
“Caroline Bradshaw!” Y/n strutted down the hallway, halting when the doors of both rooms opened and the girls appeared before her. With the two sporting similar looks and the same haircut it was difficult to tell who was who. A headache was forming in Y/n’s head from the alcohol, the woman moaning, “Please don’t do this—I-I’m already seeing double.” The teen on her left smiled.
“It’s me, Mom. Lila.”
“Oh darlin’!” the author exclaimed, moving to hug her daughter and place a kiss on her head. “You look wonderful. My goodness this is the happiest day of my life,” she opened her arm to bring Caroline into the hug. “Both of my girls!” Then Y/n remembered what brought her to the floor, “Not to ruin the happy moment, but I’d really appreciate it if you explained why you blindsided me.”
All of a sudden Nat and Jake appeared from the suite Lila was in. “Hi,” Nat glanced down the hall before smiling at the author. “Sorry to break this up, but might I suggest we move this discussion inside.” Coming over to the doorway of Caroline’s room, the two extended an arm to the trio. The girls entered first, and as Y/n followed behind Nat added, “Hi, you probably don’t remember us--.”
“Natasha! Jake!” Both were given a friendly kiss to the cheek, Y/n pleased to see them again after so many years. They looked at each other with a smirk when she entered the suite, “I knew I always liked her.”
Once inside Y/n threw her bag onto the armchair, “Spill it!” She pointed to her daughters sitting on the ottoman, beginning to pace in front of the couch. “Though I’m not sure which one of you told me your father knew I was arriving today, I can assure you that the man I just saw in the lobby had no clue his ex-wife would be in the same state—let alone the same hotel.”
The twins looked at each other, Lila frowning, “You saw dad?”
“Yes I did,” the woman signed, dropping onto the couch. “And gosh if I didn’t know any better he lost his spray tan because of how pale he went at the sight of me. Like I was Casper the not-so-friendly ghost.” Wincing, the author requested a cold compress for her head, Lila jumping up to get one for her. “I’ve wondered for so many years what it would be like to see your father again, but him wrapped around another woman’s arms while I stood there waving like an idiot was not what I had in mind.”
At that moment Ollie struts in with sunglasses on his face and shirt opened to reveal his chest, whistling before stopping short at the sight of his ashen best friend. “You look horrendous.”
“Thanks, Ollie,” she muttered sarcastically.”
“Why the lone face, babe?” He bids a glance to the couple entering the picture, mentally thinking how hot they looked together after Y/n introduces them all.
“I’m currently investigating why my daughters felt the need to leave out the fact their father had no idea I was coming today.”
“Oh,” his eyes went wide, slowly starting to back away along with Nat and Jake, both wearing the same expression as him. “Well in that case imma just head to the pool.”
“We’ll join you—that sounds like a great idea,” Nat says in a rush, the three turning to run but were stopped short by Y/n’s, “Hold on a second!” They slowly turn back around, biting their lips.
“Are you all keeping something from me?” Y/n looks between the three before her attention is directed to Lila’s soft voice.
“Mom, dad’s engaged…...” The news has Y/n slowly fall back to the couch, her shoulders dropping while her heart clenches. She doesn’t know why she’s so disappointed.
Actually she does know why. It’s the reason she can’t bring herself to love another person no matter how much she opens up to them.
“And she’s horrible, mom. The wicked witch of the west!”
“I met her before camp and she was so rude to me when he wasn’t paying attention,” Caroline voiced. “I thought he’d have ended things already but for some God awful reason he’s still with her.”
“We can’t let him go through with it, mom,” Lila adds with determination, “He’ll regret it for the rest of his life. And well…the only way he won’t is if he sees you again.”
Y/n can’t help but make a sound of disbelief. “Wait a moment,” she nervously laughs, sitting up straighter, “are you trying to set me up with your father?”
“Yes,” they echo together.
“That’s exactly what we’re doing,” Caroline says followed by Lila shouting, “You two are perfect for each other!”
“Girls—stop right there!” Y/n exclaims when the three adults try to sneak out. “Did you all know about this?”
“Whaaaaat?” Ollie scoffs, trying to play it off but Y/n knows him better than that. Jake and Nat were also denying it but the author’s knowing look made all three come clean.
“Okay I had some knowledge.”
“We sorta had an idea—call it a hunch.”
“It was just so sweet and sounded like a good idea—.”
Y/n falls backward onto the cushions with a dramatic sigh, “Lord have mercy.” She found herself in the hotel bar twenty minutes later with an ice water and some concoction she requested for her hangover. To her side she noticed a pretty blonde lady take a seat and order a gin martini. “Here’s to….” She inspected the drink with a frown before saluting the blonde, “here’s to you. Hopefully your life is not as complicated as mine.”
The lady gave a tight smile, “Thank you.”
God the drink smelled horrible, tasting exactly like something no one would drink unless it was the only source of hydration. Groaning, Y/n downed the contents in three gulps just wanting to get it over with, covering her mouth with a hand when it felt like it would come back up. “Excuse me,” she mumbled when an unpleasant sound escaped, resulting in the blonde giving a look of distaste. “I would not wish this upon my worst enemy.”
“Here’s you bill, Ms. L/n,” the bartender placed the receipt on the table for her signature.
“Thank you,” she quickly scribbled her name and passed it back along with a few bills for a tip, the blonde getting a good glance at it causing her eyes to go wide.
“You’re Y/n L/n?”
Taken aback, the author nodded shyly. “Yes.” She received a squeal from the woman.
“Oh my gosh! I was just reading your latest novel on the drive here!” She moved to the seat right next to Y/n. “And my agent told me about auditions coming up for the adaptation of your ‘Bridesmaids Chronicles’ series. Ah it’s fate!” Extending a hand, the blonde introduces herself, “I’m Marilyn Brooks.”
Over by the poolside Rooster approaches another woman resembling his ex-wife, muttering an apology when he sees it’s not her and bumps into almost every person he passes, “Sorry.”
“There you are, Bradley!” Marilyn’s father comes up to him while her mother takes his arm.
“Bradley, this resort is just beautiful. Don’t you think it’s perfect for the wedding?”
“I do,” he adjusts his collar, voice turning soft when his eyes cut across the pool to the woman descending the stairs. A smile appeared on his face, “Absolutely.”
It was her.
Anything Marilyn’s mother said went in one ear and out the other, the navy pilot excusing himself with an apology as he began to make his way around the pool. “Excuse me—sorry,” he dodged a man carrying towels before doing the same to another guest. “S-sorry,” his eyes stayed on Y/n, who was walking and taking in the scenery.
Not paying attention, Rooster stumbled over a cooler, which happened to be Jake’s. The two were seated on the beach chairs with Lila and Charlie, Ollie just off to the side looking flabbergasted as he took in his best friend’s ex. Nat looked at him in concern behind her sunglasses, “Bradshaw, you okay?”
“Yeah,” he turns to her briefly, causing him to collide with a pool boy,
“Sir!”
“Dad, watch out!” Lila’s shout had Y/n turn, gasping when she witnessed her ex-husband fall straight into the pool. Nat, Lila, and Ollie all gasped with her while Jake just took his phone out to video the whole thing. Y/n had to turn away when Rooster began swimming to the side she was on, ignoring all the looks he was receiving by his little spectacle.
The poor pilot was completely drenched head to toe. Y/n fidgeted as he approached, both smiling at each other nervously.
“Hey, Y/n/n.”
“Hello, Roo.”
Wiping at the water dripping from his eyebrow, Rooster moved closer causing a warm feeling to erupt in Y/n’s chest. Gosh he had changed—of course it had been 13 years, but Lord did he have to get even more attractive? And that damn mustache had her weak in the knees but thankfully she remained composed. “It’s good to see you.”
Getting straight to it, Bradley gave her a look once over, “It’s good to see you too….but is there something I’m missing here? You don’t seem too shocked to see me as I am to see you.” Squeezing the water from his shirt, “I mean it’s been thirteen years and—.”
“Dad,” a soft voice interrupts him, Rooster stunned when he sees who believes is Caroline standing beside Y/n. “I can explain why she’s here.”
“Caroline,” he says with caution, briefly glancing at the woman to see her reaction, “you know who this is?”
“I do.” She allows her natural accent to flow, “And actually, dad, I’m not Caroline….”
Coming on Y/n’s other side, Caroline grins at her father. “Hey, pops.”
The best word to describe Bradley’s face was astonishment and pure happiness. “Both of them?” He looks at the girl he came to the resort with, eyes shining a bit with the emotion filling him, “Lila?” Then he looks at her twin, “Caroline?”
“I’m not sure if it’s fate or you both just picked the most random summer camp to send your daughters too….but we met there and it wasn’t too hard to piece it together. You know besides looking identical there was the same birthday detail and the fact we were raised by one parent.”
“They switched places on us, Bradley,” Y/n put her arm around Caroline, beaming down at her.
Rooster looked at her stunned, but smiling nonetheless. “W-what? You mean I had Lila this whole time?”
“Well I wanted to know what you were like, and Caroline wanted to know mom—are you angry?”
He answered her with a big hug, “Oh darlin’ of course not,” he kissed the side of her head, not wanting to let her go. “I’m so happy—I can’t believe it’s you!” Pulling away he ran a hand over her cheek, in complete awe of her. “It’s been so long—you were so small the last time I saw you.”
“Well I’m all grown up now….and quite without a father,” she pulls away from him to stand next to Caroline.
“And I’m about to head into high school, where I’ll be one of the few to not relate to other girls arguing with their mother on the daily,” Y/n shakes her head with a chuckle at Caroline’s words.
“Care, you’ve been in New York this whole time?” At her nod he opens his arms, “C’mere kiddo.” After their hug Y/n politely requests a moment with Bradley, the teenagers giving sly looks as they walk away.
“No problem…take your time.”
The two take a seat on one of the beach chairs, Y/n asking for a first aid kit when she notices a cut to his forehead. As she tends to him, Rooster goes, “Jesus, both of them together? Wow, I can’t believe it—this is unreal,” he then raises a brow, “How long have you known?”
“Since yesterday morning,” she explained softly, gently wiping away the blood before dabbing it with rubbing alcohol. She apologizes when he winces. “My father figured it out the other night. Honestly I’m ashamed I didn’t suspect anything—I just thought Lila had come out of her shell after camp when she was thrilled to come to my meetings where there’d be new people. And before you ask, Caroline told me you knew I was coming. Obviously, we were both deceived.”
“Talk about karma,” Rooster chuckles, not shy of calling them out on what they did wrong. “We kinda deserve it.”
“I do,” she corrects with a tight smile. “It was my idea after all.”
“Yeah,” he leaned closer, connecting their eyes, “but I didn’t stop it from happening, Y/n/n.” Seeing her hand falter at the name, Rooster tilts his head, “What is it?”
“N-nothing,” she nervously laughs, turning away to grab a bandaid. “Uh—I-I haven’t heard that name in awhile.”
“Do you not like it anymore?”
“No, no! I do like it. My dad still calls me it from time to time,” she says, putting the bandaid on his forehead. “I guess it just feels different.”
“I get it,” he nods, offering a small smile. When she wasn’t looking he unconsciously let his eyes take her in for the first time. “You look good, Y/n/n.” That was a lie, she looked incredible. Like an actual angel before him with her white dress and soft curls.
Before she could respond Marilyn appeared, causing the two to jump back when they realized how close they were. Rooster went a little red while Y/n scratched the back of her neck.
“Finally there you are! I’ve been looking for you everywhere,” The blonde said in relief, smile dropping slightly when she sees her fiancé with the renowned author, “Oh good you two met. Brad, this is the author of the series I was telling you about—the one I’m auditioning for….umm am I missing something?”
Glancing between the two, Y/n felt her heart sink at the realization the lady she met in the bar was the same woman she saw Bradley with in the elevator. His fiancé….who was in for the shock of her life when it was revealed not only were they married, but his daughter was a twin.
“Hey, Mare, great to see you again. I’m the Caroline you met at the beginning of summer. This is my twin, Lila. I was pretending to be her while she was pretending to be me,” she points to her sister before extending a hand to Y/n, voice full of pride. “And this is our mother, Y/n L/n.”
Everyone should have expected disaster to happen at some point in the weekend. The ex-wife, who Bradley may have had feelings for still, and the fiancé—who was keeping a secret of her own.
One that the girls discovered when they snatched her phone.
That night after the stunning reunion, the girls schemed their way into recreating the night their parents met. With the help of Jake, Nat, and Ollie, the group got Sonic milkshakes, Route 44s, and some food for the pair who they ordered to follow them to where they parked Rooster’s Bronco overlooking the beach.
“Clever girls,” Y/n chuckled, popping a tater tot in her mouth. “You see what they’re doing, right?”
“I do,” he laughed with her, “not a bad job if I must say. Though, we’re missing all the discarded baseball gear and beer cans.”
For about an hour the two talked in between bites of food. When the topic of their breakup came up, both tried to hide their regret as to not let the other see how it still affected them.
“It was your hairdryer,” Bradley said when Y/n asked if she had hurt him when she threw the object at him, unsure of what it was since the moment was a blur to her now. “Clipped me in the arm.”
Y/n looked away in embarrassment, though she did remind him of why she threw it, which then had the pilot frown in shame.
“But look at you now. New York Times Bestselling author, just like you wanted. It’s amazing, Y/n. I’m really happy for you.”
“Thank you,” she gave a small smile. “It’s still surreal. And as much as I hate to admit it, it feels like it wouldn’t have happened had I stayed—even though I regret it.”
“You do?” he turned in his seat, tone unreadable though his eyes showed a different story. She didn’t look at him when she replied.
“I always had some regret. But because my dream came true I thought it was meant to happen. Leaving was the only way I could get it done. Then after discovering it was Caroline with me it all hit me full blast….I hurt her more than anything—and Lila. I don’t think I’ll ever forgive myself. Now it feels like everything that happened after that day wasn’t worth it because I lost a piece of myself.” Y/n sighs, looking up at the stars, “I was just so angry with you and by what that officer said. It felt like no one believed in me and in turn why should I believe in myself. So I did the only thing I could think of….and I packed.”
Turning to face Rooster, a solemn gaze took over, “And you…didn’t come after me.”
Rooster didn’t know what to say other than, “I thought you didn’t want me too.” He was astonished by her confession, thinking how everything could’ve been different had he listened to his brain screaming at him.
“Oh well,” she sipped her drink, “It doesn’t matter now. The past is the past. Let’s just put on a happy face for the girls and I’ll be out of your hair again.”
The rest of the night Rooster couldn’t think straight. While Y/n made the arrangements for what they should do about the twins, he just nodded and agreed. All he could think about was how he let her go and regretted it everyday since. Even when they arrived back at the hotel to their separate rooms he went to bed with the image of Y/n as the last thing he saw before sleep overtook him.
Y/n was checking out of the hotel when Rooster approached the counter. “So I’ll book Caroline’s flights for December and April.”
“And I’ll do the same for Lila in the summer,” she nodded, placing her bill from the concierge in her bag. When the girls arrived moments later, both parents were speechless by their matching outfits. “Girls, what is this?”
“Well, mom, we sorta came to an agreement. And we don’t feel like parting ways just yet.”
“Excuse me?” Y/n tilted her head at the teen who spoke. She thought it was Lila, but then again the woman wasn’t sure. They were hiding their necklaces to not give away who was who. “Lila, we don’t have time for this. Our plane leaves in four hours and I have a meeting with my publishers tomorrow.”
“Cancel them,” the other told her, making Y/n’s mouth part while Rooster’s eyes went wide.
“Caroline.”
“Yes,” they both answered.
Now the adults were becoming frustrated. “Girls, this is not funny. You’re gonna make your mother miss her flight—now stop this charade and tell us who is who.”
“Mannnn that’s pretty sad, huh,” the twin on the left voiced, “Can’t even tell your own daughters apart.” She received stern looks from her parents.
Going up to them Rooster leans down, putting his hands on his hips as he tries to tell them apart. Pointing a finger at the twin on the right, he smirks, “this is Caroline. I know that smirk anywhere.”
“Are you sure, dad?” the other twin says, plastering an identical smug expression. “You wouldn’t want to send the wrong twin to New York now?”
“Here’s what we want,” the one directly in front of Rooster states, “We want to go to Penny’s end of summer bash at the Hard Deck tomorrow night—you know, the one that happens every year. We go as a family, and once we do then we will say who’s Lila and who’s Caroline.”
Both parents look at each other flabbergasted. Then Y/n threatens, “Or I take one of you with me back to New York, regardless of who you are and that’s the end of it. Sounds good?” Nothing came of it, however, when Y/n pouted as she sat in the passenger seat of the rental car Ollie was driving until they made it to San Diego. Phoning Yolanda, her meeting was rescheduled and her flight was booked for Monday morning. They got lodging at an airbnb and settled for the night with both girls staying with Y/n on the promise they will stay with Bradley after the party.
Marilyn was not happy with the news of them staying an extra day. Having to deal with one daughter was one thing, but both twins had her head spinning. There was already high tensions with the teenagers, now throwing the ex-wife into the mix made things difficult for Marilyn when she was battling for Bradley’s attention. Not to mention all of Rooster’s friends didn’t like her.
Nerves raked the author when they arrived at the Hard Deck. It was her first time at the establishment and the only people she knew coming in were Nat and Jake. Ollie tagged along thankfully but then he was distracted by the adorableness that was Lt. Robert Floyd. Both girls dragged Y/n to all of Rooster’s friends, introducing the author with pride that made her chest warm.
“Oh hey guys,” Caroline giggled when the squad’s eyes bulged out at the sight of the three. “It’s me Caroline—the actual Caroline. That over there,” she points to her twin wearing a similar outfit only it was a Rolling Stones t-shirt and not The Beatles, “is my twin Lila, who y’all have been hanging out with the last two weeks. And this is our mom, Y/n L/n. Can’t believe dad fumbled such a bag.”
“Caroline,” Y/n scolded with a shake of the head, smiling when each of the guys introduced themself. “It’s nice to meet you all, the girls have told me all about you.”
“Wish we could say the same, ma’am,” Fanboy laughs, “We only know you from when Rooster gets drunk off his ass. Loose lips you know.” Y/n felt flustered by the comment, realizing Rooster still thought of her even after everything that happened.
Penny treated the author with a warm welcome, as did Maverick who both were surprised to see each other. “Oh my gosh, you’re Pete! You guys…you two rekindled?”
“We did,” he blushes, “took some time but it worked out. I’ve heard all about you, Y/n,” he gives an awkward shake of the shoulders, “He…told me everything about a year ago when it was the girls’ birthday.”
Everything seemed to be going well until the twins overheard Marilyn speaking ill of their mother. “She’s being a snake and you know it, Bradley! Ever since she got here there’s been an ulterior motive—and I bet you those kids are in on it,” she pointed a finger with a hiss.
“You’re being ridiculous, Marilyn,” Rooster’s tone takes another edge. “She hasn’t even spoken to me the entire night except to greet us when we arrived.”
“She doesn’t have to talk! It’s all in the looks and smiles! She’s a fucking romance author—of course she knows what to do to get someone’s attention. That’s how sad and desperate she is.”
By now Caroline had enough, bringing everyone’s attention to the scene when she yells, “You don’t know what you’re talking about!” In her peripheral vision she sees Y/n, Nat, and Penny stand from their seats, moving closer to where they were.
Rooster gives a warning look, “honey, this doesn’t concern you.”
“The hell it does!” She ignores his disapproving eyes. “How dare she talk about mom like that?! You’re gonna let her speak about her that way—about the woman who gave birth to us?”
Lila steps up, glaring at the blonde, “Instead of worrying about mom, she should be worrying about who’s blowing up her phone wanting to know when to meet at the motel tonight.” They watch as all the color drains from Marilyn’s face. Rooster turns to his fiancé, confused and demanding an answer.
“What is she talking about?”
“I-I—she’s. Bradley, there’s nothing—.”
Caroline cuts her off, “Who’s Colonel Mustard?” Again Marilyn goes pale, though there’s anger in her eyes. “What a code name, Mare. I guess I better refer to his actual name, you know. Does the name Admiral Patrick Cross ring a bell?” She mocks, “oh yeah, he’s dad’s married boss at Top Gun and she’s been sending naked pictures to him all weekend.”
Gasps sounded all around, Ollie, Nat and Penny slapping a hand to their mouth where the squad and Mav all went, “oh shit!” Y/n looked at her daughters stunned before glancing at Bradley to see his reaction. The man was in disbelief, staring at Marilyn with unreadable eyes.
The blonde saw red. “You little bitch!” Before she could stop herself her hand came up and slapped the teen across the face, leaving a nice print in its wake along with a scratch from when her fake nail dragged against the skin.
Now Y/n saw red. Literally Kill Bill alarms blaring.
Marilyn screamed when her jaw snapped to the side full force from the impact of Y/n’s fist. The author had pulled her by the hair to turn her around, nearly ripping out her extensions. Blood coated Marilyn’s mouth, and a tooth even fell out by how hard Y/n had punched her. Before another blow could be landed the woman was pulled back, fighting against the hold from Ollie and Nat, “Touch my daughter again and see what fucking happens bitch—I’ll cut your fucking eye out!” While she was being dragged to the back patio to prevent from committing a crime, Marilyn ran out the front door with Rooster chasing after her.
Tears in their eyes the twins raced to their mom. When they got outside they saw her shaking the first that was no doubt throbbing. Ollie was trying to talk her down, all while complimenting how badass she was. “Oh honey,” she saw Caroline, moving to hold her. Telling Penny to bring out two ice packs, the woman brushed her uninjured hand against the teen’s cheek. It flared her anger more, wishing she could go beat the shit out of that cunt. “My sweet girl, are you okay?
“I’m fine, mom,” Caroline whimpered, sniffing when Y/n wiped the tear that fell. Her face stung and there would likely be a mark but she didn’t care. All she could feel was warmth and happiness by how her mom stood up for her. Looking at her first, the teen frowned at the discoloration. “Are you okay?”
Penny came out with the ice packs, handing one to Y/n and Caroline. “I’m fine—at least right now because my adrenaline is pumping. Give me a few more minutes and I could be in debilitating pain but we’ll cross that bridge when we get there.” Glancing over the deck, Y/n’s face fell slightly. “Where’s your father?”
“He went after the witch,” Lila said with distaste. Caroline mirrored her expression, both twins disappointed with Rooster. The reaction had Y/n take a deep breath, controlling the anger rising which nearly snapped when the man slid open the doors of the patio and walked toward them.
“Not now, Bradley.”
“Y/n, listen to me—.”
“You went after her, dad,” Caroline sniffed, glaring up at him. “What the hell?”
“Not in the way you think, honey,” he leaned down to cup her face, careful of the mark. It was taking everything in him to remain composed. Just moments before when he was ending things with his now ex-fiancé, Rooster had to remember she was a woman and not to lose it even though she had just laid her hands on his daughter. Had she been a man….well there would be an ambulance called. “I only went after her to tell her to get her crap out of the house and expect charges for assault to be on her doorstep.”
Now that had them speechless. “Really?”
“Yeah, kiddo. And I’m so sorry,” he kissed her forehead, moving to hug her and opening his arm for Lila to join. “Thank you both for what you did. I owe you two for saving me.” He feels them laugh against his chest, the pilot lifting his gaze to settle on Y/n. She has a smile on her face, blushing when they look eyes. At her wince he notices her hand was now black and blue. “You should get that looked at.”
“Oh It’s fine—,” she tried to deflect but he wouldn’t have it.
“That looks broken, Y/n,” he gently moves the girls to the side so he can inspect it. The woman makes a pained sound when his fingers try to turn it. “Yeah, we’re going to urgent care right now.”
“Bradley—.”
“No excuses. Girls, let’s go.” He almost wanted to laugh at the pout on Y/n’s face, hauling her to the Bronco before speeding off to the nearest urgent care. The entire way she tried saying she was fine, but the pained expression every time she moved her hand in the slightest gave away that she was in fact not fine. The girls couldn't help but giggle at the way the adults were bickering. Like they were still married.
With a diagnosed fracture and cast on her wrist, Y/n felt butterflies in her stomach when they returned to the beach house for the girls to get their things. They would spend the final night at Rooster’s before Y/n and Ollie would pick Lila up in the morning in time for their flight. While the girls were upstairs, Y/n and Bradley sat on the deck, neither not knowing what to say.
“What time do you take off?”
“A quarter till nine,” she replied, keeping her eyes on the waves in front of her. She felt him come to her side, so close she smelled his cologne that if she closed her eyes, it would put her back in 2006. “It’s a straight shot thankfully—no layovers.”
“That’s good,” he muttered, head spinning with a million things he wanted to say but couldn’t form the words. Part of him just wanted to confess he still loved her. That he never stopped. That they should try to kick things back off. But then he thought about how their lives went. Here he was a Top Gun instructor in San Diego, and she was a bestselling author in New York.
Rooster thought of her stories. He read every single one on the market the day they dropped, feeling the heartbreak in him every time he flipped through the pages of her second novel that he knew was loosely based on their story. He remembered crying at the end when he finished it the first time. It was the only one without a happy ending.
All the books were hidden in his closet, but at least once a year Rooster would pick up one and read the beautiful words Y/n wrote. He was so proud of her, but didn’t know how to say it.
“Roo—.”
“Y/n/n—.” Both chuckled nervously when they tried speaking at the same time.
“You go,” she insisted. Wiping a sweating hand on his pants, Rooster took a deep breath.
“I’m sorry,” he exhaled. “For what I said to you that night. And for not standing up for you like I should have,” his face was full of regret. “I was more worried about my job than you—a-and it was wrong of me to do so. I made you feel like your talent wasn’t worthy, that you’d never make it as an author and I’m so fucking sorry for saying that. You are an amazing writer and you deserve everything that has come from it. Your books are incredible, Y/n. Every one of them.”
Y/n feels her throat tighten, voice going small, “Y-you—you’ve read them?”
“Every single one,” he confesses, making her whimper slightly by the emotion erupting in her chest. “On their release day. And I read them in one sitting.”
Y/n’s heart was soaring. Never did she think he’d read her books, let alone buy them the day they came out. His confession was making it harder for her to let him go again. “Roo…” she whispers, eyes glistening as he moves closer to her.
They stared at each other for a moment. No words came out but in their looks was everything they needed to know. The love they thought had left years ago resurfaced in just a few days.
Right as it looked like Rooster was about to lean down, the sound of a car filled their ears, causing Y/n to drop her head. “That would be Ollie.” Rooster nods, disappointment filling him as he slowly backs away to enter the house, but not before giving her one last look to see her wiping her eyes. Y/n gives the twins a kiss on the head before waving goodbye when they leave. Now that he was home, Ollie wanted to know everything he missed—jaw dropping when Y/n admitted they nearly kissed.
“Why didn’t you!?’
“Because, Ollie!” She says dramatically, “four hours ago the man was engaged and may I remind you, we’ve been broken up for over a decade. Why the hell would I let him kiss me when there is no chance something would come out of it.”
“You don’t know that, Y/n,” Ollie comes around the kitchen island, wine glass in hand. “Look, you may not have seen it but my eyes know what I saw this whole weekend. And it was a man who wants to sweep you off your feet and take you to the nearest chapel.”
“Ollie—.”
“Did you not see his reaction when you clocked that bitch? My God it looked like he was about to pop a semi.” Y/n put her free hand to her face, trying to ignore the butterflies in her stomach. The whole moment at the bar was a blur to her from the moment she saw that wrench put her hand on Caroline. It was all a haze until she was outside dealing with a throbbing hand. Barely did Y/n look at Rooster, she was focused on her daughter.
“Noooo, I did not see his reaction, Ollie. I was too busy dealing with the fact I was about to commit bloody murder.”
“Well I can assure, babe, that your sexy pilot of an ex was wanting to throw you over his shoulder and take you to bed. After of course making sure sweet Caroline was okay.” Setting down his wine glass, he gives her a stern look, “Tell me the truth, do you still love him?”
“It’s complicated—.”
“It’s a yes or no, Y/n.”
“What exactly do you want me to say,” she threw her hand out, “that yes I’m still hopelessly hung over him and wish I could go back and time to stop myself from leaving? That seeing him this weekend made me feel like a twenty-two year old girl again? That I have envisioned everyday since Caroline told me about the switch, that maybe we could pick things off where we left?” They were all rhetoric questions, Ollie allowing her to rant as tears threatened her eyes. “Of course I do—to all of the above. But this isn't one of my books, Ollie, this is real life—a-and his life is here while mine is in New York. I don’t want to leave that and how should I expect him to leave all of what he has built here for me?” Sniffing, Y/n looks away with a hand to her chin, whispering, “It’s why I left in the first place.”
The rest of the night the two packed the rental car so it was ready for the morning and watched cheesy rom-coms since neither could really sleep. They got maybe four hours on the couch, but soon their alarm woke them up to start the day. Y/n called Lila to make sure she was awake and ready before showering herself, putting on a simple outfit for the flight.
It was a heartfelt goodbye when they arrived at Roosters home. Caroline held onto Y/n for almost five minutes, the woman promising to call her everyday so she could hear how the teens' day. They spoke of excitement for the holidays with Y/n promising to take her and Lila skating around the big tree and to celebrate New Year’s in Time Square. Not too far from them Lila was held by Rooster, the teen lightly crying when they pulled away.
“I’ll see you soon, okay?” He tells her, brushing a thumb over her cheek. “Maybe sooner than you think, Lila darlin’.” She doesn’t think much of the comment, only nodding up at him before embracing Caroline when approaches. Together the girls walk to the car with the adults watching as Ollie gives a hug to Caroline.
“You take care of yourself, Y/n/n,” Rooster places a hand on her shoulder, “and hope you two have a safe flight.”
“Thank you,” she tells him, offering a tight smile. “And I will.” He surprises the author when his lips gently press against her forehead, squeezing her hand after it had fallen from her shoulder to hold it. They share one last look, Y/n nodding to him before walking up to the car. She and Caroline share one more embrace, Y/n kissing the teen’s head with Caroline shutting the door of the car behind her. Waving through the window, Y/n blows her a kiss as Ollie presses on the gas. Soon Rooster and Caroline grow smaller in the rear view mirror, the distance growing by the second until finally they disappear when they turn the corner onto the freeway.
On the plane Lila barely talks. She’s either nose deep in the book she bought at one of the airport shops, headphones in, or looking out the window with absolute silence. Y/n tries to have a conversation, but eventually gives up knowing her daughter needed some time. The only response she received when assuring Lila the holidays were around the corner was a sad nod. Within hours the sunny skies of California turn into gloomy clouds of New York. Rainfall greeted them as they stepped out of the airport, finding their Uber quickly to beat the afternoon rush. It took maybe an hour for them to get home from JFK, Y/n frowning when she saw Lila wipe a tear away.
Ollie was dropped off at his home first, waving to them with the promise of seeing them later for dinner. Dropping their stuff in the foyer, they call out to Y/n’s parents. “Mom? Dad?” “Gran? Grandpa?”
“I’ll check the study,” Y/n moves to the room her dad spent most of his day in. A smile appeared when she entered to see the morning’s newspaper in his hands.
Or so she thought was her dad’s hands.
Leaning against the door, Y/n spoke with a soft voice, “Hey, stranger, we’re back?”
The paper dropped to the desk, revealing a beaming Caroline in a flight suit sitting in the chair. Y/n’s jaw dropped, hand going to her chest. Caroline gave a cheeky look, “Hey, mom, did you know an F-18 can get you here in a quarter of the time compared to a commercial jet?”
All she could do was nod back slowly, feeling her heart pound against her chest. “Y-yes, I-I’ve heard. What—.” Upon her gasp when she saw Caroline, Lila raced into the study, matching the expression of her mother.
“Care! What are you doing here?”
The twin rose from the chair, “Hope you don’t mind us crashing in. But, it took us less than a minute after you guys left for us to realize we didn’t want to lose you both again.”
Y/n almost stumbled as she took a step into the study, “W-we?”
Caroline’s gaze drifted to the other entrance of the room, where Rooster appeared in his own flight suit, eyes locked on Y/n, “We.” He heard her make a sound, the hand on her chest going to her mouth. “My biggest regret was letting you walk away that day, Y/n. I’m not gonna make that mistake again. And I promise to never make you feel like you aren’t worthy of something—because you are worthy of everything you set your mind to. And I’m gonna make sure you know that everyday.”
Y/n started to feel the emotion bile in her throat, shaking her head slightly to stay strong. “A-and I suppose you just expect me to fall into your arms like I did all those years ago,” she saw a smile form on the corner of his lips, the man slowly moving closer to her with a knowing look. “And cry hysterically saying we can figure this whole thing out and have a long-distance relationship with our girls being raised here and there,” he continues to move closer, making Y/n’s heart pump faster. “—and we just pick up where we left off…with the promise of growing old together and…”
By now Rooster was directly in front of her, gaze full of love and adoration. She forgot what she was about to say, getting lost in his eyes, “oh come on, Roo. Is this supposed to be a happily ever after?”
“Yes,” he cupped her face in his hands, thumbs caressing her cheeks that were warm and damp. “To all of it, Y/n/n. You write happily ever afters for a living, now it’s time for you to have your own.” He smirks adding, “Except you don’t have to cry hysterically, baby.”
That nickname combined with the offer had the tears rolling down her cheeks, Y/n nodding weakly against his palms, “Oh yes I do.” The last word was met with his mouth pressed against hers, fireworks erupting all over her body. Letting her eyes flutter shut, Y/n’s hands moved to the back of his neck to deepen the kiss, feeling Rooster smile causing her to do the same.
Behind them their daughters were holding back their squeals, Lila falling dramatically onto the sofa while Caroline leaned against the bookshelf, “I can’t believe we actually did it!” They eventually moved out of the study to allow the pair some privacy, all the while they never broke the kiss until needing air but kept their mouths close.
“Wait a moment,” she ran her hands along his flight suit, “Did you steal an F-18 so you could get here before me to come confess your love—and had our daughter in the backseat?”
He gives a shrug, grinning wide, “Maybe.”
“Isn’t that illegal?” She looks at him like he grew two heads. “And how does Caroline—.”
“Well actually Mav helped me out,” his arms went around her waist, pulling her against him. “We got special permission—so don’t worry I won’t be arrested anytime soon. As for Care, Fanboy and Bob have been teaching her a thing or two about being a backseater. I think she’s getting the hang of it.”
“Oh my lord,” Y/n closes her eyes before laughing at the whole situation. Rooster laughs with her, nuzzling his head into her neck. “You are an impossible man, Bradley Bradshaw.”
“Only for you, Y/n L/n.
Six months later……
Y/n wiped the sweat from her forehead, pressing the enter button with a huff of victory. The glasses were removed from her face, leaning against the back of her chair to give her body the much needed stretch. When her arms extended out to relax the tense muscle, the diamond ring on her finger sparkled against the light. The sight made her smile, eyes going back to the words on the screen.
A knock on the door sounded seconds later, “Come in.” Gently opening, Rooster appeared with a mug of steaming coffee, his own wedding band reflecting as he shut the door. “Hey you.”
“Hey yourself,” he winks, coming to put the mug on her coaster before leaning down to kiss her lips. “Lila called, the two are staying after school for a club meeting.” Y/n thanks him for the coffee, nodding at his words with a knowing look.
“I take it pizza is the move then tonight?”
Rooster chuckles, “Unless you want me to whip up some pasta, but I gotta warn you it’s not gonna be anywhere near what you get in town. Although not to toot my own horn, my spaghetti is pretty damn good. At least that’s what Caroline tells me.”
“Oh goodness, well I can eat anything at this point,” she sighs dramatically, “Or maybe we can tell them to meet us at Milo’s. I think a celebration is in order.” Rooster tilts his head confused, but then smiles at the word doc on the screen.
“You finished?”
“Yes,” she beams. “Well I finished the draft. I plan to edit it myself first before sending it off….but it’s done.”
“That’s amazing, baby,” he kisses her cheek, gesturing for her to get up so he could sit and have her in his lap. “I’m so proud of you. You got that done in a record time. Didn’t you just start that—not even a month ago?” Y/n nods shyly.
“I had a lot of inspiration. The words just flew out honestly—Yolanda is gonna have a field day.”
Rooster gets a glimpse of the last paragraph causing a smile to appear on his lips. Respecting her writer's privacy he didn’t ask much about the novel when she started writing it, only when she discussed it on her own terms. He could see the excitement in her eyes, warmth in his veins by how happy she was and couldn’t wait to read it when she finished. “May I ask what inspired this book, Y/n/n? Although, I do have a funny feeling.” Y/n didn’t have to answer, her bashful smile was enough to tell him everything. “Have you thought of a title yet?”
Glancing to her screen, Y/n read over the final paragraph stopping at the words in bold THE END. Her readers were gonna freak out when it would be announced she’s coming out with a sequel to her second released book, the one responsible for her receiving fan mail with them begging for her to continue the story. To give the characters their happy ending.
She just needed her happy ending first.
The story was being written in real time.
“I was bouncing between a couple, but I think I have it,” she faces her husband, grinning as the name slips off her tongue. It was what Lila and Caroline had coined when Y/n came to them about the book.
“I think I’m gonna call it….The Parent Trap.”

The day flew by quickly, and the boys were fast asleep in their room. Heeseung and Yn finally had the time to properly talk with each other after many years. There was silence between them, but she spoke first. "Heeseung, I'm sorry for everything. I know you will say it was the past or it's not my fault. But I still feel guilty about what my mom did to our family. I wish I fought us more back then, but I was so scared for the twins. I didn't want them being up for adoption, but we have no choice but to divorce and claim one of the twins to save our family, despite it being a hard decision for the both of us." as she tried to talk while fighting back her tears. He replied, "Yn. I will say this time and time again that this isn't your fault nor will be your fault ever. I know we could have fought more back then, but at that time, this decision was the safest for the four of us." as he caressed her cheeks while tears slowly dropped in her face.
Heeseung wasn't liked by Yn's mom since she saw him as a distraction to her, but she couldn't do too much when they got together, though she kept telling her to find a better man than him. On the other hand, Heeseung's parents were so supportive and loving towards them. They were always there for Yn and made her feel like their own daughter. Despite her mom's dislike towards Heeseung, they continued being together, and never once was Heeseung proven to be a distraction towards her, which shows that he wasn't a distraction but instead became her motivator to become better and do well in her classes. Despite that, Yn's mom still saw the boy as a distraction and not fit for her daughter. Her worries grew when she learned that she was conceiving the twins. She didn't know that there was a disaster about to happen once her mom learn about the twins and their marriage.

Twisted Love: Chapter 4
Chapter 1, Chapter 2, Chapter 3
Summary: You always expected to marry your twin brother, Daeron. However, when this does not come to be, you find comfort with your siblings. As only Targaryens could.
Tumblr media
Minimal smut in this one, we have some angsty conversations.
WARNINGS: canon-typical incest, jealous husband, relationship insecurity, ANGST, group sex, gay (male) penetration, lesbian sex with strap-on
Tumblr media
Weeks passed. You enjoyed spending time with Daeron and getting to know each other again. He told you stories of Oldtown and the things he had studied during his years there. You filled him in on the politics inside the Red Keep; which families were trustworthy, which ones were snakes in the grass. You had tried telling him stories about the children, but quickly noted that he did not enjoy them. It saddened you that he wasn’t interested in learning about your children – his nephew and niece – but you could understand, so you didn’t challenge him.
All five of you spent time together walking along the beaches or taking tea in the gardens. You were always so happy to have everyone reunited once more that you didn’t notice the obvious tension brewing between your husband and your twin. They wouldn’t sit together; they would barely speak, and when they did it was subtly antagonistic. You only noticed Aemond’s hand on your thigh or arm around your shoulders, and that his presence was as comforting as it ever was. You didn’t notice Daeron’s sneer at the sight of you two cuddled together, nor Aemond’s cocky smirk to your twin over your head.
But eventually you did notice the tension. You blamed the happy bubble you had been living in since Daeron came home. You had just been so happy to be reunited with him, that it didn’t occur to you that mayhaps not everyone would be as thrilled. You knew Aemond had been tense the day Daeron returned, but you had chalked that up to the change of Daeron being home; it had been the four of you for so long, that you had just assumed adding in another sibling would disturb the status quo Aemond enjoyed. You had assumed Aemond would settle, and soon be happy that his younger brother was home again.
You had been wrong.
The tension felt like it was growing by the day. Once you had started paying attention, you observed Aemond’s jaw tighten every time Daeron entered the room, and how it would stay tight until the brothers were separated again. You watched as Daeron’s shoulders would slump upon seeing you and Aemond sat close together, or whenever your children were present – despite the fact that your two little ones had taken a real shine to their Uncle Daeron and loved being around him. You perceived how Aegon and Helaena interacted somewhat stiffly with the youngest Targaryen-Hightower sibling, like he was a visiting guest rather than their brother. You weren’t sure of the precise reason why they behaved so – was it as not to anger Aemond? Were they just not interested in reconnecting with Daeron?
Everything felt different after that.
The bubble had burst.
Even when you, Aemond, Aegon, and Helaena were together at night, you could only feel the whole time that someone was missing. It now felt wrong for it to be the four of you, knowing that Daeron was by himself in his rooms. Rooms that were connected to the very same passageway that gave your brother and sister entry.
That night, you tried to focus on the pleasure Helaena was offering as she thrust her leather strap into you, but you could only feel distracted. It didn't help to watch Aemond hammer his hips into Aegon’s. You couldn't shake the feeling that Aemond’s angry thrusts were representative of how he was feeling about the whole situation. Aegon didn't care, moaning loudly as he stroked himself whilst his younger brother vigorously filled him. The four of you had been in this arrangement many times before, but it didn't feel right anymore.
Helaena recognised this above you, leaning down and kissing you deeply. “Do you want to stop, hāedar (little sister)?”
You smiled, somewhat sadly. “No, issa doña (my sweet), keep going. I want to be with you.”
“Your mind does,” she whispered in Valyrian, slowing her movements but still maintaining a rhythm, “but your heart feels something is missing, yes?” Tears filled your eyes against your will. Helaena was always so perceptive. “It's alright to feel that way. I don't judge you for it. You have a lot of feelings right now, everything is changing. But all will be well, sister. The dragon has five heads, five hearts. Five hearts become one. Now let us reach completion, and we can start afresh tomorrow.”
Your tears became happy ones at your sister’s words, and you nodded. She picked up her pace again, and you let out your first real moan of the evening, both reaching your ends only a few minutes later.
You would start afresh in the morning.
Tumblr media
You and Aemond strolled through the gardens with your children, listening to Maenor chat about how pretty the flowers were, picking one from time to time. You smiled down at him, ruffling his hair affectionately even as he protested. Aena was fighting a nap in her father’s arms, but Aemond was unrelenting in his soft singing and rubbing her back. She was slowly losing the fight, tucking her head under his chin as she sucked her fingers, tiny blue eyes taking longer and longer blinks, grunting occasionally as she futilely fought against sleep.
Still smiling, you glanced up, pausing. You saw Daeron on a balcony a few stories above you, looking down at you as you all walked. Even though you couldn't see his face clearly, you could feel through the bond you shared that he was distressed.
You turned to your husband. “I'll be back soon.”
He looked at you, squinting somewhat suspiciously. He had spotted Daeron a few minutes earlier. “Alright. Come back soon; Maenor will want to show you everything he picks.”
You smiled and nodded, beckoning a nanny to step forward and play with Maenor, kissing Aena’s cheek as Aemond held her, before heading off into the castle. You knew your way up to the balcony, hoping Daeron would still be there.
He was.
You approached him from behind, watching his still back as he rested his hands on the stone railing around the balcony.
“Daeron?” you spoke softly, coming to stand next to him. You lightly touched his back, feeling him tense under your hand.
“Everything is so different now. Everyone.”
“Time has passed,” you concurred. “But we’re all family, still. And you’re home now.”
He closed his eyes, taking a deep breath. “You’re a married woman.”
You flinched that time. “Yes. I have been for a few years now.”
“Aemond is your husband,” his face twisted into what could only be described as a sneer. “I could have imagined you marrying a Lannister, maybe even a Stark or Baratheon. But Aemond... Being his wife has changed you.”
You frowned at him. “What does that mean?”
“He makes your plate for you,” he said in disgust. “Does he truly think you so incapable, or himself so superior, that he gets to choose what you eat and how much? I would never dream of treating you that way! It’s an insult, Y/N, can’t you see that?”
You scoffed and shook your head. “Then I suppose I must have changed, because I like that Aemond does that for me. Yes, he does it for me,” you insisted. “He asks me what I want, and he makes my plate for me. He has never once told me what I can and cannot have; if I want something, he gets it without question. I like it; it makes me feel like he’s taking care of me. It’s not him being controlling, or a brute; it’s a way that he shows me he’s looking after me and my body.”
“One of the many ways he brags.”
Before you could retort angrily, he continued. He watched Aemond and the children below. “You named your son Maenor,” he said, a disdainful curl to his nose.
Your hackles rose at the mention of your child. Putting your shoulders back and standing tall, you snapped, “What of it?”
“When we were growing up and thinking of names we would give our children, you always said you hated the name Rhaenor.”
“Which is still true-”
“But that you loved Maelon.”
“Again, true-”
“So why would you choose Maenor?” he demanded, his fist banging the stone railing.
You floundered. “We liked the name-”
“And then Helaena names her son Maelor! Why in the world would she choose such a similar name?”
“Because we were pregnant at the same time; our sons were born within the week.”
Daeron put his head in his hands, shaking in frustration. “But don't you see? We can never use the name Maelon now! The two names are already so similar; there can't be Maenor, Maelor, and Maelon! That would be ridiculous!”’
You calmed, suddenly understanding where Daeron was coming from. He wasn't just upset about some names sounding similar; he was grieving. “Our sons will have other names.”
He shook his head, looking at you with tears in his eyes. “I've always dreamed of having a son with you called Maelon, Y/N!” he wept. “When I was alone in Oldtown, I would picture our life together: me and you; our son Maelon; our daughter Daela... And now he's gone, Maelon’s gone. The son I've been dreaming of for years will never exist now! You've taken my children from me, don’t you understand!” he cried, tears falling down his cheeks.
Your own eyes filled with tears. “We’ll have our children, Daeron-”
“How?! You married Aemond!”
“I had to,” you protested, no idea that your husband was right around the corner, listening to every word. “I didn’t know when you would be coming home, or even if mother and grandsire would allow you to return. I challenged them why we weren’t betrothed, and they said they might need alliances with other Houses. I refused to be married off, so I asked Aemond to wed me. To keep me here. So that we could all be together again one day. So you could come home to me.”
Aemond had had enough. He stalked off down the corridor, not hearing what you said next.
“I love Aemond. I love him madly, he is a part of me. As are my children. As are you. As are Aegon and Helaena. You all have my heart. But he is my husband, Daeron. I will not – cannot – choose you over him. I want us all to stay together, I don’t want you to be the only one not with us. A Targaryen alone in the world is a terrible thing. I can see that, plain as day. You need to be here, idaña. Will you try that? Will you try staying with us?”
He sniffled, rubbing his eyes. “He’s rubbing it in my face, Y/N. Like he won a prize, taunting me that you're his wife and that I'm alone.”
“I know,” you nodded, hugging Daeron tightly. “I’ll talk to him.”
Tumblr media
That evening after dinner, you and Aemond returned to your rooms. He hadn’t said a word all night. He had made your plate for you, like he always did, but he didn’t speak a word to anyone. He also didn’t touch you. He didn’t hold your hand, touch your thigh, rest his hand in the small of your back... Nothing.
Your handmaids helped you out of your dress and into your sleepwear, then the nanny brought in Maenor and Aena. Maenor had had a bad dream and wanted comfort, which had woken Aena and she was then refusing to go back to sleep. Aemond picked up your son, cuddling him as the young boy pressed his tear-stained face into his father’s neck. You took Aena and sat down, nursing her in your usual armchair by the fire.
“Thank you,” you said to the nanny in a soft voice, “we’ll take them back to the nursery ourselves when they’re feeling better.”
She nodded and curtsied, leaving you all alone.
The only sounds in the room were the fire crackling, Aena nursing at your chest, and Maenor’s soft sniffles and deep breaths which were gradually calming down. You don’t know how long you wait before you speak.
“Will you tell me what’s wrong now, or after our children are asleep?”
Aemond glanced at you. “I don’t know what-”
“Don’t, Aemond. Don’t even try that. You’ve been off all night. Something is wrong. Something has happened. So you can either tell me now, or when the children are asleep. When would you prefer?”
Your husband didn’t respond. He turned and sat down in the armchair opposite you, holding Maenor against his chest, his large hand rubbing soothing circles against his back.
He continued to be silent, so you did too. Fine, he would tell you later. After a while, Aena finished nursing on one side, so you switched her to the other. Maenor had also fallen back asleep, his breathing now slow and steady in his father’s arms.
“You were talking to Daeron earlier,” Aemond stated, looking into the fireplace.
You raised your head. “I was. You were listening, weren’t you? And what did you hear?”
His jaw clenched. “That he longs for children with you, which you seemingly want too. That you only married me because you didn’t want to be sold off to another House.”
You sighed through your nose. “Then you didn’t hear the entire conversation.”
“So you deny it?”
“No. I did ask you to marry me after Mother and Grandsire told me that they hadn’t married Daeron and I because they might have wanted alliances with other Houses. That’s true. You knew that the day we married; you all came into my rooms and I was crying.”
“So you did only marry me to escape some Lord in a castle somewhere,” he accused.
You said firmly, “I chose you to be my husband because I love you. Yes, the reason for us marrying so suddenly was political, but don’t you ever question my love for you. I’ve always loved you, Aemond. I’m delightfully happy being your wife, and I believe I can say the same for you as my husband. Or are you not happy?”
“I am happy.”
“So why are you doubting this now? Because Daeron is back? Because you think I’ve just been waiting for him, and my life with you has just been an exercise in passing time?”
He sulked, his hand still stroking up and down your son’s back. “You always wanted to marry Daeron. We only wed because you were about to be married off and you needed to prevent that.”
“If I had wanted to prevent myself being married to a stranger, I could have just laid with you for one night, ruined my reputation. Or I could have married Aegon as his second wife. But I didn’t. I chose to marry you, to be your wife. To spend my life with you, until my last breath. Have you forgotten that? Has the return of my twin, your brother, given you amnesia of the vows I spoke?” you snapped.
“You and Daeron were always meant to be wed.”
“Well apparently, we weren’t! Mother and Grandsire sent Daeron away to prevent our marriage, it was never going to be allowed to happen. They sent him away when they realised that our desire to marry wasn’t some little childhood infatuation or dream. They sent him away as quickly as they could and they wouldn't let him come home. They were never going to allow us to marry,” you enforced.
“You couldn’t have been sure of that. You married me in desperation and anger. I was never going to be your first choice.”
“Like I was yours? I heard you at Laena Velaryon's funeral; you said to Aegon that you would have gladly wed Helaena had the two of you been betrothed. You infuriate me, Aemond,” you murmured, shaking your head. “I can’t take back how I felt in the past, and I won’t apologise for it. Daeron and I had always been close, we had no reason to believe that we would not be allowed to wed one day. But I’ve always loved you, Aemond. How could you doubt that? I wouldn’t have married you if I didn’t love you. If Daeron and I had been allowed to marry when we were eight-and-ten, I would have taken you as a second husband the moment the ceremony between Daeron and I was complete.” That made Aemond’s head shoot up. “Does that really surprise you? You truly thought I didn’t care for you at all before our wedding?”
He said nothing.
That broke your heart a little. “You’ll note I also haven’t run off with Daeron now that he’s back, as you seem to think I’m so desperate to do.”
“But you would have him join us? The four of us become five?”
It was a test, you knew it.
“If he chose to, yes. I would have us all be together. It seems so unfair to exclude just one of us.”
“But you would choose him over us in a heartbeat,” he accused. “The moment he asks-”
“Shut your fucking mouth, Aemond,” you cursed him in Valyrian, not wanting your children to hear your words. Your strong language took him by surprise, and he did indeed stop talking. “I would not. I would never. I knew that even before we were married, when I thought there was still a possibility of marrying Daeron. I knew I would not give any of you up, and I knew that if he had asked me to, I would have refused to marry him.” That visibly shocked Aemond. “You are all my family and I love you all. I would not give up any of you; not for Daeron, not for you. Not for anybody. Do you hear me? The King himself could order me to do so, and I would refuse. I would let him disown me, bastardise my children, take my titles and privileges, take everything from me, before I gave up any of you.” Little Aena finished nursing, letting out a small sleepy sound as she released your breast. You kept your eyes on your husband, moving Aena up to your shoulder, rubbing her back in firm circles as you got to your feet. You approached him, staring down at him as he held your son. “Do you understand me now, husband? Is that clear enough for you?”
He swallowed thickly and nodded.
He had never loved you more.

As Megatron’s personal and only medic in the Decepticon army, Buddy sometimes had to travel where he went. From across the mountains to someone on the opposite end of the screen. That was how she got to know many mechs in the army.
“We are going out.”--Megatron
“We?”--Buddy
“You and I.”--Megatron
“Me? Sorry, not today My Lord. I have to work on the med bay.”--Buddy
“What needs to be done in the med bay?”--Megatron
“Not going to tell you because then you’re just going to get someone else to do it. And no one here can organize my stuff the right way. I was trying to fix Blitzwing’s servo, my tool kit was nowhere to be found. For about half an hour I was searching for it, and it was under your throne. Who puts stuff there?”—Buddy
“You have been stuck here for the last couple of cycles. I do think it is wise for you to get out and stretch your struts.”--Megatron
“You would love to see that wouldn’t you?”--Starscream
“Starscream!”--Megatron
“Wait what did he say?”--Buddy
“Nothing! We are going!”--Megatron
Megatron grabbing Buddy’s servo and leaving without a word.
When Buddy met Shockwave, it was through the main screen in the Decepticon HQ on Earth.
Shockwave had all her information from her Academy records. To say he was skeptical of Buddy’s position on the team was an understatement.
It wouldn’t be the first time the Decepticons would have a former Autobot change sides. No doubt Buddy would be the last one to do so either.
In this case, however, it nearly seemed too good to be true.
Shockwave going through going through Buddy’s file before the video meeting.
“Let’s see here… death certificates with no body found… former student at the Autobot Academy…several medical certifications, impressive… Special powers? Strange... Excellent marksmanship… Former protégé of some field tech, boring… Most likely to follow the Prime status? Unexpected but nothing more…what… had connections with Ultra Magnus?!”--Shockwave
It truly seemed too good to be true, but he kept quiet about his skepticism to himself. His first step was to get close to Buddy and try and get some information on them. Maybe find out if she is a mole or any potential blackmail material.
Shockwave was expecting someone sketchy trying to fill in the stereotypical Decepticon role or an Autobot with a poor, and or, offensive Con skit memorized.
Not someone who had their own unique style that would be associated with Decepticonism and who deeply cared for their comrades.
“Shockwave.”--Megatron
“Lord Megatron.”--Shockwave
“This is our newest chief medical officer on Earth, Buddy.”--Megatron
“Hello Shockwave, it is a pleasure to meet you.”--Buddy
“Erm—thank you Buddy, is it? Such a peculiar name.”--Shockwave
“Yes, it isn’t a common name or one that sparks any fear into the sparks of the enemy but, that is who I am. How has your day been?”--Buddy
“My what?”--Shockwave
“Oh, sorry was that not an appropriate question to ask?”--Buddy
“I—it has been a good day as of now.”--Shockwave
“That’s good to hear. We can’t have one of the Decepticon’s top spy’s in a rough shape can we?”--Buddy
“Top spy?”--Shockwave
“Yes! I have read a little bit about your work through the reports.”--Buddy
“You’ve read my reports?”--Shockwave
“You’ve read some of the reports?”--Megatron
“Of course! They are interesting to read. And it also doesn’t help when you leave some of the data pads out in the open My Lord. Especially around my work area.”--Buddy
“Don’t you have to go and reorganize the medbay’s newest supplies?”--Megatron
“Oh yes! Good-bye Shockwave! I do hope to get to know you better and that your work is truly—”--Buddy
“Buddy.”--Megatron
“All right, all right I’m going. Bye!”--Buddy
Buddy walks out of the room.
“… She seems like a nice addition to the medical wing.”--Shockwave
“Yes…”--Megatron
“… I am not looking for a relationship now, My Megatron. Anyways Buddy is not my type.”--Shockwave
“…”--Megatron
Shockwave was left a bit confused after that interaction with Buddy. It only got worse once Buddy had willing gone to the screen to contact him.
“Hello Shockwave!”--Buddy
“Hello Buddy. Has something happened? This call was unscheduled.”--Shockwave
“I know but I wanted to talk to you.”--Buddy
“About what pray tell?”--Shockwave
“Anything.”--Buddy
“I’m not sure I am following…”--Shockwave
“Last call you seemed… well you seemed a little bit lonely. It cannot be easy keeping up the façade of being Longarm Prime all day, especially in front of the council, Ultra Magnus, and the entire Elite Guard.”--Buddy
“…It is not. But there are certain bots here that are a bit dimmer than the average bot. It makes things easier. One of the Prime’s has the IQ of a bag of rusty bolts.”--Shockwave
“Is that so? Ouch! Do tell more.”--Buddy
“I believe one of the Autobots are on to me.”--Shockwave
“Are you sure? Do you need back up or something?”—Buddy
“No, not at the moment.”--Shockwave
“Good, you can never be too safe.”--Buddy
“Yes…”--Shockwave
Shockwave was in denial of the friendship that was forming through those calls. He didn’t need friends talking to his audial all day long!
It’s not like he looked forward to having those talks with Buddy.
Nope.
Absolutely not.
It’s not like the two of them have swapped personal com lines to further talk about personal things and away from the prying optics of other Cons that entered the room.
It isn’t until one late night he realizes how deep he is in.
Longarm listening to yet another boring presentation with the other Primes, trying not to stab Sentinel’s big chin with a pen. His mind slowly wondering what Buddy is going to talk about this time when he tells them about Sentinel’s big chin.
He freezes.
Oh.
Oh no…
He has a friend.
He has a good friend now.
How does one keep a good friendship like this from falling into pieces in the face of a war?!
A little while later Shockwave starts searching up ‘Ways to keep good friend’ on Bing.
Blurr opening the door, giving Shockwave just enough time to go back into Longarm form.
“I know there is a spy here Longarm! I can feel it—what are you looking up?”--Blurr
“Umm… engex bottles.”--Longarm
“…”--Blurr
“…”—Longarm
“Oh really! What years are you looking at? I personally think—”—Blurr
Longarm/Shockwave sagging in a bit of relief from the scare.

Swindle and Lockdown met Buddy at a weapons meet.
Megatron had invited Buddy to meet his arms dealer and favorite mercenary, Swindle and Lockdown. Buddy didn’t get much information on the two, being that they were on the borderline sections of potentially ‘sell outs.’
“Lord Megatron, is there any more things I need to know about these two mechs?”--Buddy
“Lockdown will not speak out of line. He is more interested in getting the latest gadgets for his collections.”--Megatron
“Mod collector, got it. And this ‘Swindle’?”--Buddy
“Any price he tries to get you to buy is a terrible one. Leave the bargaining to me.”--Megatron
“And when you mean bargaining, you mean peacefully or using intimidation?”--Buddy
“Yes.”--Megatron
“You are impossible sometimes.”--Buddy
“Only for you.”--Megatron
“What?”--Buddy
“Here’s our stop.”--Megatron
Swindle had been told beforehand that Megatron was bringing someone else to meet him. The new medical chief, from what he understood.
He thought about displaying a couple more weapons for this new Con, maybe get them to buy something.
Swindle placing a big cannon on the table.
“That’s a bad idea Swindle.”--Lockdown
“Oh hush! You don’t know what he is like.”--Swindle
“First, she. Second, I did my homework.”--Lockdown
“But they could have a fascination in cannons once they see this beauty.”—Swindle
“Like I said, I did my homework. I heard around that the medic isn’t too found in weapons.”--Lockdown
“If that is true, then why would she even want to go to a weapons meet with Megatron?”--Swindle
“I don’t know—Speaking of which, look who’s here.”--Lockdown
Megatron landing on top of the platform with huge mechanical spider coming off of his back as they both transformed.
“I thought you said Earth spiders didn’t get that big!”--Swindle
“That’s the chief medical officer, numb nuts.”--Lockdown
The two Cons were not expecting Buddy.
Well, more Swindle, after all, Lockdown did do his homework.
Lockdown kept to himself while politely introducing himself to Buddy. She politely responded back with a small smile.
Swindle kept on showing the weapons to Megatron as the other two made small talk about modifications.
“Hey Buddy!”--Swindle
Lockdown mouthing ‘no’.
Megatron wondering what this was about.
Swindle wrapping an arm around Buddy.
Megatron’s optics are staring at it like it did a capital offense.
“What do you think of these bad boys? I’m sure that there is something here that has caught your attention.”--Swindle
“Oh? Sorry I’m just here to visit, I’m not interested in buying.”--Buddy
“Oh please, I’m sure we can work something out. You’re the new chief medical officer, right? How about I show you some of the tools I—”--Swindle
Lockdown coughing.
“Lockdown and I got at another exchange. Top notch and… and…”--Swindle
“Umm, Swindle are you feeling, okay? You’re looking a little bit queasy?”--Buddy
Swindle just now noticing the Death Glare Megatron was giving him, specifically at the arm still wrapped around Buddy’s frame.
Swindle quickly dropping it.
“How about this, Buddy. I give you these tools, for… free. For free, and you tell everyone at the base about the great deals you got here!”--Swindle
“I mean, I could—”--Buddy
“That’s wonderful! Here they are and here are the weapons you purchased Megatron!”—Swindle
Megatron still glaring but nodding.
“Oh! Okay, Bye Swindle and thank you for the tools. I’ll be sure to tell everyone back on base.”--Buddy
“Anytime Buddy!”--Swindle
“Good-bye Lockdown. I hope you have a good time finding those new mods!”--Buddy
“Much obliged Buddy, bye.”--Lockdown
Megatron and Buddy transforming, Buddy getting on Megatron’s back as he zooms out of there.
“… Did you soil yourself?”--Lockdown
“N-no!”--Swindle
Swindle brushed him aside and continued organizing his stuff in his chassis.
Lockdown just wondered if one day he might see Buddy again. It was nice to have someone else besides Swindle to talk to sometimes.

Buddy met Wasp under less pleasurable circumstances.
Buddy had been taking a break from the stuffy base one night and decided to take a walk on one of the islands nearby.
They had been walking around the area when they heard noises.
Like rapid little pede steps.
It couldn’t have been the Dinobots. Their steps were a kin to a mini earthquake.
It was someone else.
Quickly, she webbed herself to a nearby tree and watched.
A small green mech appeared from the brush.
He looked scared.
But what could have scared him?
Sure, Grimlock and the others were a bit much but if they were after the mech then Buddy would have heard them.
No, someone or something else was after the small guy.
“Wasp!”--Optimus
Buddy freezing.
“Wasp, I know you’re out there! Come out with your servos up!”--Sentinel
Wasp making more whinnying noises.
Buddy quickly snapped out of it and webs him up into the tree with her.
“Ah--”--Wasp
“Shh! Don’t scream, I’m here to help. But I can’t help you if you continue to scream, okay?”--Buddy
Wasp nodding slowly.
It was Optimus and Sentinel.
As much as Buddy wanted to know what was going on with both parties, her attention was on the shaky mech that looked like he was about to have a panic attack.
Wasp didn’t know what to think at that moment, but right now this bot was helping him get away from the Elite Guard so he decided to play along.
The Autobots suddenly came out of the brush.
Buddy and Wasp froze seeing them from their hiding place.
Wasp was already looking for a way out when he saw his savior start to shake.
At first, he thought it was out of anger and that they were going to pull out their weapon and start shooting up the place.
Until he saw her optics.
Big, wide, shaky, filled to the brim with fear.
He had seen those optics before. Those were his optics sometimes.
What had those Autobots had done to this Con to get a reaction like this?
Buddy thought that she had finally come to terms with everything that had happened, especially when Optimus showed up.
Seeing Sentinel there sent another wave of flashbacks her way. It was too much; it was too much. She knew that she should have been listening in on the conversation, it could drop some important information for the team.
But the flashes of Elita’s smile, Sentinel’s antics, and Optimus’s laughter filled her senses like no tomorrow.
Buddy was in such a shaky state she didn’t know it until the little green mech held her servo gently. Like one would do to their kid if something was scaring them.
He was trying to calm her down.
She slowly stopped the shaking as the Autobot’s left the area. After a bit more of waiting, the two climbed down the tree.
“Thank you. I’m sorry you had to see that. I was the one trying to help you and you ended up helping me.”--Buddy
“Wasp is glad you okay. Nice lady bot scaring Wasp a bit.”--Wasp
“Again, sorry about that… Wasp? Is that your name?”--Buddy
“Yes. This is Wasp.”--Wasp
“Well, I’m Buddy. You have some scratches on you. I have a med kit with me, I can fix those up right now if you want.”--Buddy
Wasp looking at Buddy hesitantly before nodding.
Buddy getting to work.
“You are doing such a good job at staying still Wasp. Most of my patients like to move a lot. You’re doing so much better than they are right now.”--Buddy
“Wasp doing good job?”--Wasp
“Yes, yes you are Wasp.”--Buddy
“Buddy bot too nice to Wasp.”--Wasp
“No one can be too nice Wasp. It’s just that sometimes… sometimes empathy can get lost in wars like this.”--Buddy
“Wasp don’t like Autobots.”--Wasp
“I feel you Wasp…”--Buddy
“…Autobots hurt Buddy bot? Hurt Buddy bot bad?”--Wasp
“…Yeah, you could say that…”--Buddy
“…Autobots hurt Wasp too.”--Wasp
“I’m sorry to hear that Wasp…”--Buddy
“Wasp sorry for Buddy bot…”--Wasp
“Welp, I finished fixing those scratches and dents.”--Buddy
“Thank you!”--Wasp
“…Would you like to come with me to the Decepticons? That way you’d be safe from the Autobots.”--Buddy
Wasp pausing not sure what to answer.
“Listen, you don’t have to answer that right away. That’d be selfish of me to expect that from you right now. This is my private channel, if you need me, just call me.”--Buddy
Wasp in amazement simply nodding.
“You take care okay, Wasp.”--Buddy
“Bye Buddy bot!”--Wasp

La Cosa Nostra- pt 7
Cowritten with @schemmentis
Part 1. Part 2. Part 3. Part 4. Part 5. Part 6.
Summary: It's a nice easy Saturday, and then you head to Church on Sunday- the Feds following you the entire time.
WC: 1.8k
Tumblr media
Saturday rolls around, and your little ones are absolutely delighted to see both you and Melissa on your mother’s doorstep to pick them up.
“Mam! Mommy!” Cat shouts as she whips the door open. Rosie echoes her words as she all but launches herself at you.
“Hi, my little love,” you chuckle as you crouch down to be at eye level with her. “How was your night with Nan and Pop?”
“So good!” Rosie grins as you step further into the house. Melissa brings Cat to her own hip, delighted to be reunited with her girls once again.
“Pop let us have ice cream for dinner!” Cat giggles.
At that, you look at your father who is relaxing in his recliner. His eyes go wide, and they look everywhere but you.
“Dad,” you scold him.
“It was pistachio,” he shrugs. “That’s a fruit.”
“It’s a nut, and so are you,” you tell your father as you roll your eyes.
“Oi, Y/N,” your mother breathes from her place on the couch. “Let’s not forget the dozens of times your father let you and your siblings have ice cream for dinner.”
“That’s different! And you were always up in arms over it,” you say to your mother.
She shrugs. “You kids turned out okay, didn’t you? You own one of the most successful salons in the city, you have a beautiful wife, and absolutely precious twins. Besides, we’re grandparents now- we give the kids sugar and then send ‘em home with you.”
“What did you give them before we got here?” Melissa raises a brow.
Both of your parents just smirk.
“Cat, what did Nan and Pop give the two of you for breakfast?” the redhead asks slowly, cautiously.
“Cinnamon buns with ice cream!” Your oldest twin’s eyes sparkle with pure glee.
“Oh my god,” you mutter under your breath. You switch to your native tongue to tell your parents what you really think of this situation they’ve put you in.
“Oh lighten up,” your mam tells you. “Just take ‘em to the park and have ‘em run around there for a few hours. That’s what dad always did.”
“Damn right,” your father chuckles from his place.
So after bidding adieu to your parents, you and your family end up at the local park. Cat and Rosie spend the afternoon running around in circles, having you chase them, begging you to push them on the swings, giggling with all of the glee and innocence that five year olds should have. When more kids start to make their way into the little fenced area, you and your wife take a step back and find a park bench to sit on. Neither of your eyes leave your girls, but it’s nice to have a break when you’re both already exhausted enough. Even with last night, where you were both in bed by ten and sleeping in until much later than either of you had expected, the turn of events that your life has taken has the both of you still pretty much running on fumes.
“We are so lucky to have those little munchkins,” you sigh softly as you let your head rest on Melissa’s shoulder.
“We really are,” your wife smiles as she watches Rosie tag Cat.
The two of them have brought so much joy into your life. Your eyes glaze over as you’re taken back to so many of the big events that have happened in this park. You recall the day that the two of you simply came down here on a walk and the warmth of the sun as you held hands and strolled through the park. Melissa told you that she loved you that day. You remember this exact bench was where you felt your babies kick for the first time and the absolutely beaming smile that could light up the entirety of center city that your wife gave you as she felt it too.
You’re taken back to the first time you brought your girls here at just a few months old- both you and your wife going stir crazy as you stayed inside and with the girls for the longest time. You brought your wife here the day that her restaurant opened, just to give her a sense of normalcy with all of the chaos that had taken place trying to get everything in order to open on time.
You’re only brought back to the present when Rosie comes climbing into your lap and Cat climbs into Melissa’s. You both instinctively press kisses to your girls’ heads and sigh in content.
“All tuckered out?” you chuckle as the younger of your twins exhales deeply and her fingers run through your hair. You feel her nod, and you see Cat nod into Melissa’s neck.
“Can we go home and watch a movie?” Your eldest asks your wife quietly.
The two of you share a look before nodding. “That sounds like a great idea, sweetheart.”
As you’re getting the girls into the car and driving home, you miss the way that Agent Danik and Agent Shaw are tracking your every move.
The sleek, black, undercover car blends in well. You don't notice it trailing a few cars behind you. You don't notice it idling at the end of the street as you and your wife get your girls out of their car seats and safely inside your home.
You spend the evening curled on your couch. The twins splaying their tiny bodies haphazardly across both you and your wife's laps and slipping in the scant spaces between you as they start drifting to sleep.
“Maybe we need to give them sugar more often.” You faux whisper to Melissa as you both leave the girls’ room after laying them down. “They didn't even ask for bedtime stories.”
“They get enough sugar between your parents and mine.” Melissa lightly hits your arm. “‘Sides, you'd miss bedtime stories after a while. You love doin’ the silly voices to make ‘em laugh.”
“Yeah,” You sigh. “You're right. I would.”
Normally, you and Melissa would return to your comfortable couch. At least for an hour or two to fully unwind before retiring for the night. Tonight, though, you both set wordlessly about your night time routine. You've caught up on sleep, for the most part. Still, there's a bit of extra exhaustion. Plus, tomorrow is Sunday, which means early morning to make Mass on time and breakfast with Barbara and Gerald afterward.
You happily settle into your bed once you're ready for the night. Curled beneath your sheets, you hold a book open with one hand while your other arm is wrapped securely around your wife. The television in the room, with the volume low, playing one of her shows.
You think Melissa has drifted to sleep already when you hear her voice. It's soft, and laced with her tiredness, but it’s clear. “It’ll pass, yeah? All this?”
You shut your book without worrying about your bookmark. Blindly, you set it to the nightstand. You lay down completely, wrapping both arms around your wife and kissing her cheek and shoulder.
“It will.” You answer with all the confidence you have. “It’ll pass and everything’ll go back to how it’s ‘spose to be.”
The two of you get as much rest as possible given the circumstances. But then there’s a little hand on your face, and this time it’s Rosie who is gently prying your eye open with one of her own hands. You groan as you pull her onto the bed. You can hear Cat giggling as she does the exact same thing to your wife.
Your little one only continues to try to force your eyes open until you peel them open just enough to look at the clock on your bedside table.
“Rosalina Marie,” you groan. “Caterina Ann. It is 6:45, and we do not have to be awake for another forty-five minutes. Quit it.”
“Let Mam sleep,” Melissa sighs as she rolls out of bed. “Come on, you little rascals.”
She corrals them out of the room, letting you get another forty minutes of sleep before she’s coming back in to gently shake you awake.
“Mi amore,” your wife says softly as she stands by your bedside. She brushes away a few hairs from your face and kisses your temple gently. “It’s time to get up and start getting ready for church.”
You blink awake, happy to see that beautiful woman’s eyes sparkling. You roll out of bed unceremoniously before heading into the kitchen to eat breakfast and start attempting to get the twins ready for church in time.
Rosie whines about the fact that Melissa has her in a dress while Cat spins around and giggles the entire time as she watches the skirt puff out.
“My love, it isn’t that bad,” you sigh as you pull on your own trousers. “Mommy just wants the two of you to look your best.”
“And you look wonderful,” Melissa tells Rosie as she slips on her own blouse.
“Why do you and Mam get to wear pants though?” your littler of the two grumbles.
“Because you only own leggings and jeans as a little girl, and Mam and I have slacks,” your wife explains.
By some miracle, the four of you end up in the sanctuary before the service starts. You slide into the pew where Barbara and Gerald Howard sit. The woman is immediately cooing over your two girls, and suddenly Rosie seems thrilled to be wearing the dress Melissa had put her in.
You hand the girls the silent fidget toys that you brought along in order to keep them quiet during the sermon.
“Do you want your book back?” Barbara asks quietly as the priest takes a few seconds to shift from a passage to the choir.
“No,” Melissa sighs. “Not yet. Just... hold onto it until I tell you I can get it back, and do not speak of it again. Please.”
Barbara raises a brow, but she doesn’t say anything further as she turns her attention back to the mass that is taking place.
After the service, you take Cat’s hand while Melissa takes Rosie’s, and the four of you head down to the diner that you frequent often after a service. Gerald and Barbara follow. Again, you fail to notice the way that Shaw and Danik follow your steps.
“Is that...?” Shaw asks.
“The senator, Gerald Howard,” Danik confirms quietly. “There’s no way that the senator has a hand in any of this.”
“No,” Shaw agrees softly. “And his wife is known for her activism in education and her devout Christianity.”
“Shit,” Danik mutters.
“Did we just hit a dead end?” Shaw asks.
The head of this investigation sighs. “I have no idea, Shaw. No fucking clue.”

She had to get the message to her mother, somehow. So she prayed that the time would come where he could escape to send a message by raven.
‘From the inside I will finish them off. Whatever happens, don't bend the knee. We will resist, mother.’
She read the message for the tenth time and snorted, putting her hands on her head and closing her beautiful eyes. "
Fuck..."
She cursed that she had missed the opportunity her mother had given her to come home with them. But of course, seeing that her grandmother was going to be alone in Driftmark, taking care of her grandfather, who was still on the verge of death from the ambush he suffered, her honor weighed more heavily in the balance. She did not want to turn her back on them at such a delicate time.
The sun had not yet risen when her prayers were answered.
"Ser Erryk." whispered as she saw the knight, opening the door to the room.
"Princess, we are leaving." The knight said, passing her a cloak to cover herself with. "I do not agree with anything that is happening, with this sick treachery. It is an atrocity, just like your betrothal."
"And my grandmother?" The young woman asked as she covered herself with the cloak.
"We will go to get her now. I will take you both to a ship that will take you back home." The knight, who was a twin to Ser Arryk, spoke before resting a hand on the princess's shoulder. "I promise I will do my best to get you both out of here."
Then she took the note from the table and clutched it in her own fist. She also took the ring her parents gave her with the emblems of House Targaryen and Velaryon, and the small pouch in which she always stuffed a few coins. After that they left the chambers and went for Princess Rhaenys, stealthily and swiftly. Whenever Ser Erryk saw guards, he told the princess to hide, so far they had had good luck.
"Lady Grandmother." Said the young woman taking her grandmother's hands, once they were reunited.
"My sweet girl." Rhaenys said, before kissing her granddaughter's cheek. "I heard what they wanted to do to you. Are you all right? They did not do anything to you, did they?"
"No, I am just fine, glad you are as well, really."
"Princesses, we must leave now." Spoke the kingsguard who was trying to help them escape from the Red Keep.
"And Meleys and Scarlex? We can not leave them behind."
"It is not safe to go to Dragonpit now, Princess. I am afraid we could not make it. Going by boat is the best, safest option." Ser Erryk explained before they reached the exit through which they would leave the Keep.
"Wait." The princess stopped before they could continue. "I need you to take this with you, Grandmother." She whispered handing the note she had written for her mother to her grandmother. "I need you to be the one to give it to my mother in case we get separated."
"That is not going to happen." Said the queen that never was, looking down at the small roll she now held in her hand.
"Better to be cautious, do not you think? That is something you made a sure of teaching me." Said the silver-haired girl looking at the note in her grandmother's hand.
"Sometimes you remind me of your father, my child." Spoke the older woman hiding the message.
Only if you knew.
"Aemond!" Called the Velaryon girl as she ran across the training yard. "Aemond!" The young girl ran with a huge smile on her face, as she looked for her uncle, who was currently alone training.
"Niece." Said the young boy, stopping shielding the sword, when he saw his niece and best friend come to where he was. "Has something happened?"
The young lady rested her hands on her knees and gestured for him to give her a moment, to catch her breath after all the running around the fortress, trying to find him. She looked up and gave the prince a huge smile. "It's a boy." The silver-haired girl said with difficulty, still struggling to normalise her breathing.
The young Targaryen arched an eyebrow. "What are you talking about?" The boy said, abandoning his sword and looking for a place where they could both sit and talk.
"My mother, the princess, has given birth to a boy. Another brother, Joffrey is his given name." Said the girl with tears of happiness. "He is a healthy boy. But very wrinkled and- he will not stop crying, gods." She told Aemond with a crystallized look in her eyes because of the joyful emotion she felt. After saying that, she took a seat next to the Targaryen Prince.
"Congratulations are in order, then." Aemond smiled at her and placed his hand on hers, who gladly took it and squeezed it before letting out a laugh. "Another nephew, hm? I was expecting for a girl this time.”
"Me too, if I am being honest." She admitted, looking up at him. As she watched her lifelong friend look at her intently, she felt herself blush, for some strange reason she didn't understand. "It is a hot day, it is not?." She commented in a whisper, lowering her gaze and looking down at the ground, as if it was something very interesting.
"You came running, that is why you must feel like that." Aemond stared at the girl, intently, for the first time in as long as he could remember he was staring at her like that. She was changing, and he had not noticed, not until now. His feelings of friendship, unable to help it, were doing so as well.
Realising that what he was feeling for her was something new and more mature, the boy pulled away from her and released her hand, causing the princess to look up and look at him with concern.
"Are you alright, Aemond?" His blue gaze met hers after hearing the question. "You are quite red." The young girl observed.
He was even redder now.
"Yes. I am just fine." Lied the young prince. "I forgot I have your nameday gift here. I wanted to give it to you when we were alone."
"Why would you have it here?" she asked curiously.
A smile formed on his face. "In case I found you later." Lied the Targaryen boy again.
He carried it with him all the time, but could never find the time to give it to his dearest friend and niece.
"Close your eyes, do not look, hm?"
"Never." She whispered.
The young prince stepped around her friend, and once behind her, he reached into his pocket and pulled out a gold necklace, simple and unobtrusive, with a medallion. It was a simple medallion with a three-headed dragon. The emblem of House Targaryen.
"A three-headed dragon, of House Targaryen." The young woman commented as she looked at the gift that her uncle and friend had given her. "It is beautiful, my prince. Thank you very much, but..."
"But?" the silver-haired boy asked, terrified that deep down she didn't like the gift.
"I am a… Velaryon. Not Targaryen, my mother is but-"
"But you could be one, officially, in the future, in some years, when you shall to be wed.”
"Grandmother, no! No! No! Grandmother!" shouted the young Velaryon as she was separated from her grandmother and Ser Erryk, due to the hordes of people being led towards Dragonpit, where the coronation was to take place. "Fuck!" She screamed out of desperation, as she tried to backtrack and turn back. A desperate attempt to get back to the only two people she trusted in the city.
She cast her gaze back and could see them slowly drifting further apart. Rheanys' face showed her desperation to be reunited with her, she tried to look for her granddaughter with her eyes, but at one point she lost her in the tide of people. She should have tried harder not to lose her grip, she thought.
Amidst pushing and shoving, the young princess managed to make herself climb up a small brick wall. Once she stood up on it, she tried to look around for the knight and the princess, but no luck. She only hoped that at least her grandmother could escape from the death trap, which was the fucking capital.
"Seven hells, what am I supposed to do now?" She mumbled, still looking from the top of the wall for an exit, where there were almost no people, let alone guards and soldiers.
"Girl. Get down from there now." Someone spoke to her, she looked out of the corner of her eye at the person who had addressed her, she tried to cover her face as much as possible with her cloak, so that she wouldn't be recognised. "If you do not come down on your own, I will take you down by force."
She really was very unlucky at that moment, when the man who had addressed her, was exactly Rickard Thorne, a fucking Kingsguard loyal to the green snakes. A fucking traitor.
"Apologies, Ser. I was just looking for my companions, with whom I was to attend the coronation." She said, trying to change her tone of voice and not looking at him. "No need to worry about me, I will get down." She tried to be as agile as possible to get down, so she could run as far away from the guard as possible.
The last thing she wanted was to be recognised.
As she was about to get down, she almost tripped, stepping on her own dress. The knight had very good reflexes and caught her before she could fall.
The young princess had a lot of bad luck at that moment.
"Be more careful, woman."
"Thank you." She whispered as she hurried away from the spot, clutched the cloak even tighter as she covered herself with it. That had been a close call.
At least she had already gotten rid of the guard, who was part of the Kingsguard, no less. Surely they had noticed her and her Lady Grandmother's escape by now.
"Hey, girl, you left this behind," said Rickard, looking at the bag of coins he had just picked up from the floor. "What are you doing with so much gold? Who did you steal from?"
Fuck.
"You can keep it, as compensation." She said as she tried to pick up her pace, she wanted to run but it was practically impossible.
"Get back here!" Thorne said as he headed towards her, pushing people out of his way.
Double fuck.
Now was when it was her turn to run, even if it was impossible.
As the young princess tried to flee the scene, she was pushing people out of the way and into the Kingsguard who was practically on her heels. She looked around desperately, she needed a way out.
She was so desperate.
Luckily, she could see a way out by her right, where there were not so many people. She started to run there, and saw a small, dark and smelly alley. She ran as if there was no tomorrow.
As she ran up the street, she was bumping into people going in the opposite direction, she could also hear Rickard shouting at her, telling her to stop or ordering the people near her to catch her. But no one seemed to be in the mood, thanks to the seven.
Until an elderly man tried to catch her. He grabbed her by the arms and took a small dagger he carried with him, placing it on the young woman's neck, who instinctively stomped on his foot with all her might, and then bit him on the wrist that held the dagger. The man dropped it, bringing his other hand to the bloody wound. She picked up the dagger, but not before kicking the man in the balls, who now lay on the ground doubled over in pain.
She kept running as fast as she could, Thorne much closer than before, because of the time she had lost facing the passer-by.
"You have no escape, thief." Said the Kingsguard, once he had the young woman at the end of the alley. "Surrender or the punishment will be worse."
Flight or fight.
"Bullshit, you traitor." She said as she stopped and turned around, pointing him with the dagger she had just seized of.
"Princess." He said in surprise when he saw the princess's face, but quickly a smirk of superiority formed on his face. "You don't know what a commotion it has caused in the Keep to see that neither you, nor Princess Rhaenys were in your chambers."
"A pity I didn't get to see the faces of the incompetents in that place."
"Come on, Princess, put the dagger down." The knight requested.
"Not without using it first."
"You think you can beat me? A knight of the Kingsguard?" the man in front of her laughed, one hand on the pommel of his sword. "Do you think a woman stands a chance against a knight?"
"No, of course I do not." The silver-haired girl feigned confusion. "But at least I can amuse myself for a while while I play with your patience."
"That's not very ladylike of you, princess."
"Did anyone say I care in the least about that?"
Ser Rickard clutched at the sword dagger, truly the young woman was playing with his patience like no woman had ever done before.
"Oh, come now, Ser Rickard. Will you not at least give me the pleasure of putting into practice everything my stepfather has taught me these past few years?"
"Believe me, Princess, I would gladly do so, but both the Kingsguard Commander and the Queen would prefer that you return to the Red Keep unharmed." Thorne explained as he took a step towards her.
"Oh, how sweet of you..." father.
“Put the dagger down, now."
"Or what? You'll kill me?" The princess made a false grimace of sadness, then smiled at the knight. "I just wanted to play swords with you, well daggers, rather." She dropped the dagger to the ground, only for the knight to take her arm firmly and set off on the way back.
"Are we going to the coronation?"
"No." No doubt the man was running out of patience, and it amused the young Velaryon, who even though she was being led back to the Keep had a triumphant smile on her face.
"Good, because if I would wanted to see a jesters’ show I would have stayed in the Red Keep.”
"You could have your tongues cut out for talking like that."
The young woman let out a loud laugh. "Not long ago someone told me exactly the same thing you did, Ser."
"You are leaving now, so I hear from father." Aemond spoke with a sad expression, then watched as his friend played with the necklace he had given her a couple of days ago.
The Velaryon girl nodded, then wiped away her tears with one hand. There was a knot forming in her stomach and throat, every time she tried to talk to her best friend the tears threatened to spill out. "Mhm." She nodded, avoiding the young prince with her eyes.
"And you are not going to say anything before you leave? Just 'mhm'?"
"It is just that- I know that... I- if I try to tell you anything I know I will cry even more, I will not be able to stop." The young princess's lower lip trembled.
"I would rather you do that and try to comfort you than leave without crossing any words." The young boy admitted.
"Thank you for being my friend, Aemond. I know we are family, but your friendship means a lot to me." Confessed the girl from the house Velaryon, then burst into tears and put her hands to her face, trying to hide her face from her friend.
"Thank you for being the only one who understands me, Princess." The young Targaryen whispered as he grabbed the young girl’s shoulders, then pulled her to him and gave her a hug. She hugged him back.
"For being the only person in the family besides you without a dragon?"
"And for everything else."
"I am going to miss you." She whispered, with immense sadness.
He hated the huge emptiness he felt in his chest at the thought of not seeing her every day.
"And I you." He said likewise, as he ran a hand through her hair, trying to memorise how it felt to his touch.
They stood for a few moments in silence, pondering whether or not to say more. Neither had the courage to tell the other how they felt, and in a way, they were too young to even be thinking about it, since those feelings only came when you were older, supposedly. Or maybe not?
"You should leave now. Your Lady Mother will be waiting for your return," Aemond spoke, regretfully.
"You are right." The girl murmured as she broke the embrace, then grabbed her friend's hands in an attempt to get his attention. "I will try to write to you as often as possible."
"I will try the same."
"Good."
"Good."
"I will see you soon, I hope."
"Y-Yes. Soon..." neither knew exactly what to say to say goodbye, let alone not knowing how long they wouldn't see each other for.
Then something happened that caught Aemond Targaryen by surprise. His friend and niece, the princess, with both hands cupped his face and placed a brief, nervous peck on his lips, leaving him breathless and wide-eyed.
"Goodbye, my prince." Said the silver-haired girl nervously before running out of the place in search of her family.
Aemond, still wide-eyed, and in apparent shock at what had just happened, slowly turned around and stared in the direction she had disappeared.
He held up a hand as if in farewell. "Goodbye, I suppose."
He spent the rest of the day without saying a word to anyone. He didn't know whether or not to believe what had happened in that little encounter with his friend. But when he went to sleep that night, he did so with a small smile on his face.
The rest of the day passed in a blur for her, after Ser Rickard Thorne had taken her back to the castle, to be met by none other than the Kingsguard commander himself, Ser Criston Cole, her beloved father - gods, the joy it gave her to see the torment in his eyes after discovering his paternity - who escorted her back to her chambers, where Alicent, now Queen Mother, awaited her.
"What you did today was stupid." Was the first thing Alicent said to her as she saw her enter her room and heard the door being closed by Ser Criston. "Something could have happened to you."
"Something worse than what is about to happen this very night, my queen?" the young woman asked as she approached the centre of the room.
"If you had met someone dangerous your life could have been in danger. Imagine if they had come to kidnap you or assaulted you, taking your virtue." Alicent spoke as she approached the young woman, who in the next few hours was to become his daughter-in-law.
The young woman laughed wryly at the last words of the mother of the new usurper king. "There is no need to pretend you care about me, your highness. There is no one here but us."
"You were lucky you did not suffer a worse fate today, princess. You could have gotten yourself killed."
"That would have been a more merciful fate than the one I am living right now, locked up here and surrounded by traitors!" Exploded the young woman, as she made her way to the small table on which she kept the wine. She picked up two glasses and poured the liquid into both of them. "Any fate is better than this. I would rather be dead right now, than here being used as a pawn in your evil plan." She offered a glass to Alicent, who took it and took a sip.
"I do not think being married to the king's brother, who in your childhood was your best friend, is a cruel fate."
Now it was the young Velaryon's turn to take a sip from her cup, this one being longer than the one the queen took. "Yes, when the love you once felt for him has turned to immeasurable hatred." She blurted out, accompanied by a small smile.
The next few hours were spent wandering around her room and drinking wine, occasionally standing by the window to watch the people pass by, nothing interesting. But once the time came, she was led to the throne room, where the ceremony would take place. Thank the gods it looked like it would be an intimate ceremony.
The ceremony began when Aegon, the great son of a bitch and usurper who now warmed the throne with his ass, walked her to the altar, where Aemond, with his head held high and no expression on his face, stood waiting for her. His fucking handsome face, made her sick.
She clicked her tongue as she realised the intrusive thought that had just crossed her mind. "Pathetic." She mumbled before she reached where her future husband was waiting for her.
Huge was the relief she felt as she slipped from Aegon's grasp. The disgust she felt for this man, sadly her uncle, was inhuman. How she wished she could cut off his head and give it to her dear mother. She thought as she gave him a look of disgust, after he had left her at the isle.
She looked up at Aemond, who was watching her from top to bottom. She raised her head defiantly, to which he let out an arrogant little chuckle, shaking his head. She looked at him again, in detail. She looked at his face, it seemed to show serenity and determination, there was still a small smile on his stupid face. It seemed that nothing that was about to happen caused any kind of reaction in him. She, on the other hand, felt a knot in the pit of her stomach and her breathing was agitated, no matter how well she hid it, her nerves were killing her.
Before she could even process anything, they were already deep into the ceremony. The Septon asked Aemond to place the cloak over the young Velaryon, to protect her from the eyes of the people and the gods.
"You may now cloak the bride and bring her under your protection." Then came the sermon. "We stand here in the sight of gods and men to witness the union of man and wife: one flesh, one heart, one soul, now and forever."
It was now that they both held hands. Her hands trembled, but not his. The Targaryen prince really wasn't the least bit shaken by what was happening. He took her hand firmly, and with his thumb, he drew circular patterns on the back of it. It made her look at him and let out a hitched breath. That gesture was something they both used to do when they were children, as a signal to focus… and trust.
Was he trying to help her calm down?
A ribbon was literally tied around their hands, symbolising their union. "Let it be known that these two people are one heart, one flesh, one soul. Cursed be he who would seek to tear them asunder."
So she, herself would be cursed if she tried?
The young man who wore the patch looked at the one who was to be his wife from now on, watched as tears formed in her eyes, and as her lower lip trembled briefly, only to be stopped by her biting it. He knew there was an inner conflict gnawing at her. He couldn't help but clench his jaw as he watched the scene.
"In the sight of the Seven, I hereby seal these two souls, binding them as one for eternity. Look upon one another and say the words." They both faced each other and a few seconds later, after a brief silence in which they stood looking at each other, they proceeded to say their vows.
Aemond took up the gesture he had made earlier, and began to make circular patterns on the back of her hand. The reaction it caused in her was new. It was like a fluttering inside her, as if she had an army of dragons inside her, flying all over her. "Father, Smith, Warrior, Mother, Maiden, Crone, Stranger... I am hers and she is mine. From this day, until the end of my days," he recited.
At the same time she said hers. "Father, Smith, Warrior, Mother, Maiden, Crone, Stranger... I am his and he is mine. From this day, until the end of my days."
Oh, seven gods. The moment had come.
"With this kiss, I pledge my love." The silver-haired man took her chin between his index finger and thumb, and with a gentleness she herself believed he lacked, he brought his face close to hers and placed a soft kiss upon her lips.
The act lasted only a few seconds, but she could not help but feel a certain familiarity in the kiss that had just sealed their fate. He felt it that way too.
"You swore oaths to protect and defend my blood!" King Viserys shouted angrily, as he shot a glare at Ser Criston.
"It will heal, will it not, Maester?" Alicent asked in anguish to the Maester tending Aemond's wound, who had just lost an eye in a fight with his nephews not long ago.
"Flesh will heal, but the eye is lost, Your Grace." replied the Master to the boy's mother. That answer caused Rhaenyra's eldest daughter to look across the room at the young prince.
The young Velaryon was not present when her two younger brothers and her cousin Baela, got into a fight with Aemond, her best friend, who called her brothers bastards. While this was going on, she was suffering something cruel and disgusting that she wished on no one. Once she was able to extricate herself from her situation, that was the scene she saw, everyone full of wounds and cuts, along with a broken nose for her younger brother and a lost eye for her best friend. Or rather, the one who once was.
She sat against the wall of the Driftmark's great hall, deep in thought, saying nothing, until she heard Alicent say. "Ser Criston, bring me the eye of Lucerys Targaryen." She stood up with a speed she had never seen in her before, which made her quickly dart into the crowd of people in the middle of the room, where the whole feud was taking place, and stood in front of her grandfather Corlys Velaryon, who was protecting Luke with his own body. Unarmed, she held out her arms, trying to prevent anyone or anything from harming her little brother. She would never allow it.
"You will not do such thing.” She heard her mother say in defence of her youngest son.
"I will bite you hard, Ser Criston." Threatened the long silver-haired girl, trying to sound intimidating.
And after that the discussion became more personal and intense between Rhaenyra and Alicent, once the King stopped Ser Criston from taking Luke's eye and made it clear that anyone who questioned the legitimacy of the princess's children would lose his tongue. Once silence reigned over the place, as the tussle between the two women ended with her mother getting a nasty, bloody cut on her arm, it was the firstborn heir to the throne who spoke first.
"You are all monsters." Were the words that echoed through the great hall, most of those present looked at her. She was resting her gaze on Aegon, and lastly Aemond, at whom she stared with a serious face but also with a frown. She was trying to tell him something. "Real and disgusting monsters." She repeated again but in a whisper, as she put a hand to her neck and tore off the medallion Aemond gave her, then threw it at his feet. He looked at the ground and then back at her.
The boy who, less than an hour ago, had been her best friend all her life, looked at her in the same way, but now his one eye reflected sadness. "Do not mourn me mother, it was a fair exchange. I may have lost an eye, but I gained a dragon." After saying those words dedicated to his mother, he looked at her again.
At that moment they both knew that their friendship was completely broken, that the damage was irreparable, and that this was how it was meant to be.
His quarters were clearly much more spacious than hers. It looked as if from now on this was where they were both going to live, to lead a marital life together. She surveyed her surroundings, since the last time she had been there things hadn't changed much. What was most striking now was some pitchers of different alcoholic beverages on a small table in one corner of the room. Also striking was the large number of swords, it was certainly curious that Aemond collected the swords of opponents he had beaten.
"I do not know what your drink of choice is, but here you go." Said her now husband, setting a wine glass down in front of her, who was seated in one of the chairs surrounding the round table. "Dornish wine."
She looked at the glass and took it silently, then took a sip. "I hope you have no expectations of tonight, husband."
He took a seat across from her. "Who said I did, dear wife?"
"You know, the bedding ceremony." She said dryly. "People will want to make sure you fuck your new wife, that our marriage is consummated. I'm sure your brother wants to be a witness and watch you brand me anyway."
He let out a small chuckle and then sighed. "There will be no bedding ceremony." Aemond rested his head on his hand, leaning fully against one of the chair's armrests. "It is not my style to degrade my partner in such a manner."
"What is your style then?"
"Private. Keep it between me and her, at least most of the time."
"Hm, good to know."
"And yours. What is your style?" The husband of the young Velaryon, now Targaryen, asked curiously. She looked at him silently in reply.
"You assume I have lost my virtue, by any chance?"
"Have you not?" the Targaryen prince was curious. "I think it's natural to want to explore when you're young, and lose your virtue."
"Yes. I have- I was- Aemond, yes, I have... done it before." She answered him truthfully.
"With someone I know?"
"Perhaps." With that the girl finished what was left of her drink.
"Ser Criston is out of the question, for starters." At those words she looked at him curiously, he drew a crooked smile on his face. "He is your father, apparently."
"I see you're into eavesdropping."
"Let's just say I prefer to keep up with everything that concerns my wife."
She gave a cynical laugh. "And how does it feel to know that your family has forced you to marry a bastard? Unbeknownst to them.” She asked, narrowing her eyes, expectant for his response.
"I don't care at all." He admitted with a shrug.
"Hm."
"I have a present for you." He said.
"Let me guess. It's a necklace with a medallion with the emblem of House Targaryen?"
He reached into his pocket and pulled that exact thing out of it. That necklace that he had once, six years ago, given to his friend.
"I know you do not trust me, and you never will, probably. But I want you to have this."
"Why would I accept it this time?"
"Because of what it symbolizes, clearly."
"House Targaryen?"
"No. The friendship we once had." The prince with the patched eye said as he rose from his seat. "That even if you do not trust me, I am willing to place my trust in you, and that even if you do not believe it, you will always have my protection."
"You seem to have feelings for me." She commented.
"Did I say I did not?" He admitted in the form of a question. "May I?" he asked for permission to put the necklace on his wife.
She looked at his outstretched hand, which had the necklace on it. She nodded slowly and brushed her long hair away from her neck. Her husband circled her, as he had done the first time he had put the same necklace on her, but now he noticed a slight difference.
A scar. A rather long one on the right side of her neck. It was as if someone had tried to slit her throat once.
Still staring at his wife's scar, Aemond finished placing the necklace around her neck. "I've never seen it on you before."
"I've never liked to show it." She whispered, reaching up to the decanter of wine to put more in the glass. "This is the reason for the name I was given. The Red Mermaid." She sighed as she said her nickname, and as she remembered the reason she was given it. "You would not know its story."
"I have always heard different versions. It is hard to know the real reason behind the name you were given."
"You want me to tell you what really happened, husband?"
"That is your decision to make."
"Make yourself comfortable, it is time for me to tell you a story." She said before taking a long sip of her drink, she was about to finish it and pour herself a third glass.
Aemond took note of this and took the decanter away from her. She had already had too much to drink throughout the day. "Enough for today. Please proceed to tell your tale."
"It all happened four years ago, when I was going through a very dark time." The young woman began to narrate. "I thought of taking my own life. So that night, after dinner, I escaped from my room and went to the beach, the one where most of the ships disembark. I thought, water extinguishes fire, there is no more poetic death for a dragon-blooded Velaryon than drowning. They say it is an agonising death, but in the end, when you stop fighting, a great peace comes over you."
The silver-haired young bastard fiddled with her glass, as she glanced at the fire she had lit in the room's chimney. She sighed heavily and closed her eyes, trying to find the strength to continue the story.
"I had already stopped fighting when someone pulled me out of the water, when someone decided to save me. I couldn't have been more wrong. The person who tried to save me had been watching the whole scene, without me noticing." The young woman gave a sad smile to her husband. "After pulling me out of the water and leaving me on the sand, that man tried to rape me. I do not remember where it came out of me to fight, I don't know when my animal instinct came out of me. One moment I was about to drown and the next I'm lying on the floor of the beach, under the stars of that night, fighting for that not to happen to me again".
"What? You've been assaulted like that before?" Aemond jumped to his feet at that statement from the woman. His knuckles turned white from how hard he clenched his fists.
She continued with her story, not answering his question. "I guess it was my animal instinct and fear of going through the same thing that ended up with me throwing myself at that man's neck. I bit him so hard on the neck, that when he struggled with me… he cut me with his knife on my neck... it wasn't a deep wound, in case you were wondering." She finished her drink again.
She had never told anyone what really happened that night. She didn't know why the first person she told was him, her husband. Her enemy. But honestly, it felt good to be able to share it for the first time with someone. She felt lighter now.
"Did he get to do to you what he tried to do?"
"No." She answered him, tears starting to form in her eyes, but she quickly brushed them away. "I dug my teeth even deeper into him, to the point where I practically tore his tissues away... and he bled to death right there next to me. I lost consciousness soon after, and it wasn't until the next morning that some guards found me lying on the sand next to that man's corpse, still wet and full of blood from both of us." She sighed, and inevitably a tear rolled down her cheek. She rested her head on her hands and let out a small sob.
Aemond approached her carefully and knelt down in front of her. He took her hands and met her gaze with his. "Honestly, I expected nothing less from you." He admitted, giving his niece-now-wife a small smile, trying to comfort her.
She closed her eyes again and let herself get caught up in the moment. She leaned her forehead against his, who was taken by surprise by this gesture, but did not pull away.
Was honesty the only thing needed to mend the friendship they once had?
"I need you to be honest with me. Has that really happened to you before? Have you ever been… raped before?" He asked looking at her.
She nodded, and with a frown of anger and helplessness at the memory of what had happened, she began to sob. Aemond, unsure of what to do, took a deep breath, and slowly pulled the girl to the floor so that she could sit next to him and then he could embrace her. He tried to comfort her in the same way that, in what seemed to have been a past life, he used to do.
"When? Who?" He asked still clinging to her, with one hand on her lower back and another resting on the nape of her neck.
"At the funeral of my aunt, Lady Laena." She murmured into his neck.
"Who? Please tell me who?" He asked. "Do I know him?"
"Yes." His young wife replied in the affirmative, as she turned her face away from the prince's neck and looked up at him with red, still tear-filled eyes. "Your brother."
"Aegon?" he asked in confusion.
She nodded. "He was the one who raped me. He was who ruined my life."
"You are all monsters. Real and disgusting monsters."
That's when it all made sense.

We're living different lives
Heaven only knows
If we'll make it back with all our fingers and our toes
Five years, twenty years, come back
It will always be the same
For the first time since the end of August, all of the Fantilli siblings would be under one roof. Albeit, only for three days, but it was three days that they were determined to make count.
Luca was the first to fly home, following the conclusion of the first semester. About a week later, came the twins. First was Gianna, who left straight from the rink in Nashville (as Luca could tell by the wet hair she was sporting), nearly forgetting to even tell her teammates she was leaving, eager for whatever scraps of time she could get with her family.
The minute his baby sister stepped off that plane, it was as if someone had lifted the weight of the world off his shoulders. He threw his arms around her, smothering his face in her hair as he inhaled the scent of the shampoo she’d been using since she was 14. Gianna returned the sentiment, clinging onto her older brother as if he was the only thing keeping her afloat. “Lu,” she cried into his shoulder, the relief of being reunited with one of her brothers, one of the people whose presence had been so distinctly woven into her life force, that the past few months of separation has been akin to torture, making it’s way to the surface. “Gi,” he said soothingly, tilting her head back so he could wipe her tears, the same way he used to when she was learning to skate all those years ago. A watery smile made its way onto his face as he uttered the words he’d been rehearsing for the past week, “Welcome back sorella.”
At the familiar term of endearment only her family was privy to, she launched herself at Luca, her arms encircling his neck as she began crying again. At last, her tears dried up, and she unpried herself from her Luca, mostly at the insistence of her stomach. “Now, can I go grab a snack before Mo gets here? I’d wait, but I haven’t eaten since before the game yesterday,” Gianna questioned while quickly taking out her phone to make sure her face wasn’t too terribly swollen from the tears she’d just shed. “Sure Gi, go ahead,” he responded while glancing down at his phone to check for any updates from Adam. A few beats of silence passed, before Luca glanced up, confused as to why she hadn’t walked away. He locked eyes with Gianna, who stood there awkwardly, rocking back and forth on her heels. “Do you want anything?” She questioned, voice as earnest as it always had been. He shook his head softly, and she quickly pivoted on her feet and made her way to the nearest coffee shop. Luca stared after her, a small smile on his face- it was like the old days. As long as he ignored the looming feeling of dread, dread at the fact that their time was limited, that she and Adam (who wasn’t even here yet) both left in two (technically three) days, he could pretend it was just like the old days.
Around an hour later, the third piece of their puzzle was getting off of his flight. Luca shook Gianna awake, who had fallen asleep on his shoulder shortly after returning with her snack, and barely got out the words, “Mo’s flight just landed,” before she shot up out of her seat, as if pure caffeine had just been injected into her veins. Without haste, Gianna threw herself to her feet, before quickly turning around and yanking Luca to his. “C’mon Lu, be ready- wait, which direction will he be coming from?” She spoke, the words rolling off of her tongue, too fast for her brain to comprehend, excitement taking over her body at the prospect of finally being in the same place as both of her brothers. “Should come from the left, if I scoped out the place correctly,” he said while wrapping an arm around her shoulders, as if to hold the girl back from sprinting to Adam the second she saw him.
About twenty minutes pass, before finally, Gianna catches a glimpse of the “stupid and entirely unnecessary” beanie she forced Adam to wear, so they’d be able to spot the boy from a distance. “Lu I think see him,” Gianna expressed excitedly, the girl beginning to bounce up and down on her heels, Once Adam got within a few feet of the pair, both siblings took off towards Adam, wrapping him in what their parents (who had elected to stay home, both to give the siblings time to reunite, but also to get some sleep- which they knew would be hard to do having all of their babies under one roof again) would call a “Fantilli take-down,” mostly because, had Adam not planted his feet on the ground in preparation, he easily would've fallen straight to the airport ground, which he was not about to do. The moment he felt the arms of his siblings encase him, he dropped his bags to the floor and wove his arms around someone, though he wasn't sure who, because their three bodies were so intricately woven together in this moment, it was impossible to tell where Luca ended and Gianna began. He tried to force a few words out of his mouth, but the emotional shell shock at finally reuniting with his best friends had seemingly made his brain short circuit. Yet, there was no doubt that the silent sobs that wracked his shoulders, and the tears on his cheeks said all of the words he couldn’t.
For this one brief moment, it was like the world stopped. For the first time in about four months, the pieces of the tattered, kindred spirits that resided in the each of three siblings, were at peace. At that moment, they were one soul, split into three hearts.

This is my first time asking, I mostly read. Could you make Astral Express Crew with Lumine!Reader? I curious about their reaction how Lumine!Reader reunion with her twin or brother. Like how hard Lumine!Reader try find him only get leaving again and leaving in saddeness. I bet Astral Express don't let Lumine!Reader continue findher twin and keep stay with them.
(Sorry if there are grammar mistake, English is not my language.)
I am currently replaying genshin and of course I picked Lumine😊 I have fallen down the genshin hole again and I can't get up
Trigger Warning: Yandere, Obsessive behaviour, Possessive behaviour, Kidnapping
Stelle: She doesn't understand, why is he so important to you, she knows about your brother but can't understand why you should care about him, he abandoned you she is here, look at her pay attention to her not him.
When you come back to Stelle, tears running down your face, it doesn't take long for her to make a choice, you shouldn't cry and be sad, you should smile and wouldn't you be much happier with someone like her, someone that won't leave you, she is sure you will understand one day.
"There is no need to cry, just lay down in my arms and you can let your sorrows melt away, isn't this so much better than being with him"
Dan Heng: He hates your brother, not for leaving you but for taking up so much of your time, you are always searching for your brother, why can't you pay attention to him instead, atleast he won't abandon you, so please stay.
Dan Heng's hate for your brother is only amplified after you reunited with him, who is your brother to make his love sad. Pray for the both of them to never meet for Dan Heng might just attack him on sight, but right now he needs to convince you to quit, shouldn't be hard.
"I don't understand why you would still search for him, you can just stay with me, I won't abandon you, won't make you sad and you will be safe, so please just stay"
Himeko: She allows you to search for your brother, if only so she can meet her future brother-in-law. Every fiber of her being is screaming for her to tie you down, to not let you leave, but she ignores it, she knows that you would never come to love her if she removes your chances to meet your brother.
All of that is thrown out the window when you come to Himeko crying and hugging her, your brother left you again, just after reuniting with him. If this quest of yours is making you so sad, maybe it wouldn't be a bad idea to just tie you down, right?
"Oh, he left you again. Hey, why don't you come with me to my room, we can drink a cup of coffee and chat"
Welt: It's a miracle that he even allows you to search for your brother in the first place, he wants you safe and protected, the idea that something could happen to you is something that keeps him up at night.
Welt sees you get sad after finding your brother only for your brother to leave again. He won't allow this anymore, this is hurting you emotionally and he will be damned if he allows this to continue. He has cleaned out his room, ready to house another person.
"You need to understand, I did this because your journey was hurting you, so please make yourself comfortable, you aren't leaving anytime soon"

Operation WandaNat
Tumblr media
Summary: Natasha Romanoff is your best friend -- a best friend who most certainly has a crush on your sister. So when she brings her sister back to the compound, you're delighted to finally get an accomplice to help the two Avengers confess.
Word Count: 2451
Pairing: Natasha Romanoff x Wanda Maximoff; Yelena Belova & Maximoff!Reader
Warnings: Pietro is dead, 'there was only one bed', scheming, and a very slight innuendo at the end.
A/N: This was a very fun dynamic to write, I hope you enjoy it!
»»————- ★ ————-««
“I thought I might find you two here.”
You recognise Natasha’s voice, your best friend coming to join you and Wanda, but you don’t turn to greet her. Instead, your focus lingers on the grave before you. “It’s been a year today.”
The soft tread of boots on the soil ensures you aren’t startled when her red hair invades your vision, finally drawing your attention from the grave to the flowers Natasha sets down, and eventually to the woman herself.
“I, um, didn’t think you’d come here, Nat,” Wanda murmurs. Her bowed head could easily be mistaken as a figment of her grief, but you notice her attempts to smooth her hair and the way her eyes follow Natasha’s every move, so when her eyes catch yours, you raise an eyebrow with a hint of a smirk. She uses her unique, all-powerful telepathic abilities to tell you to fuck off.
If Natasha notices the silent conversation happening around her, she doesn’t comment on it. Instead, she pulls a flower out of the bouquet before rising to her feet and presenting it to Wanda, “I know what it’s like to lose a sibling, through death or…otherwise. I didn’t want you to go through it alone.”
“Thank you, Nat. Wanda and I appreciate it,” you say. Wanda stammers out an agreement and almost melts when Natasha shoots her a sympathetic smile. “You should go look for her, you know. Yelena.”
Natasha smiles, but shakes her head, “We didn’t leave things on the best terms. Besides, I’ve been on TV, I live in a very public location, and it’s been years since I took the Red Room down; if she wanted to find me, she would.”
“If Pietro were still alive, I’d do anything to be reunited with him,” Wanda says, casting a sad look at her twin’s grave before she turns back towards Natasha, “I know you’d do the same, so find her.”
“The team-”
“-are on hiatus until Tony and Steve get their egos in check. Wanda and I can handle things in your absence, so please just go look for her.”
After minutes of contemplation, Natasha decides: “I’ll tell you if I find anything.” Then she runs back to the Compound, leaving just you and Wanda at your brother’s grave.
“So…” you began, “are you going to miss your girlfriend?”
“Just because Pietro’s gone, doesn’t mean you have to take his place, idiot.”
“I’m the eldest, I had that place before the both of you were even born, thank you very much. And I don’t hear you denying Nat’s your girlfriend-”
“Shut up. She’s not! Why don’t you ask yourself that; you’re the one hanging out with her all the time. I don’t even have a chance to talk to her without you hanging around.”
“Because we’re friends, Wands, and I don’t blush the second she smiles at me.” You shrug, then point at the flower she still holds, “but if you want some space to give her flowers of your own, then you should have just asked…” Wanda scowls and you worry her next move will be to chuck you across the field with her powers, something you hope to avoid. So, after one last smirk, you hurry back to the Compound; Natasha needed teasing for the affection she’d just shown towards your sister.
You’d regret it one day, when they finally get together and learn to team up against you, but that day won’t come without your intervention so, for now, you’ll keep it up.
»»————- ★ ————-««
Unfortunately, your sister never did get to woo Natasha; she planned and plotted and schemed, but when the two actually ended up in a room together, Wanda stammered out only excuses to leave.
Then, before the two had even had another proper conversation, Natasha disappeared. She told you (and only you, much to Wanda's disappointment) that she'd found a lead on her sister, then two hours later she was gone.
"Maybe when she's back," you tell Wanda in consolation, "you'll get there one day."
But that future day stretches further and further away as Natasha's leave of absence continues to extend: from days, to weeks, to two months later, until she finally returns to the Compound.
Wanda senses it first, before the assassin even steps into the building – something to do with 'feeling telepathic energy' (sometimes you regret not joining HYDRA with the twins; it seemed awful but you would have liked cool powers). Regardless, you heard her cry of "Natasha is back!" and followed her to the door… albeit at a slower, less-crazed pace.
It means you enter the foyer just in time to see Wanda stopped in her tracks by a knife-wielding blonde. "Get that knife away from her!" you yell, even if Wanda can protect herself more than you ever can. Your skills are, luckily, not tested when a familiar face enters and forces the newcomer's hand down to their side.
"You're the guest, сестра, act like it. They're friends."
"Natasha!"
"Hey again, Wands, it's good seeing you again…"
The blonde looks between the pair, her eyes narrowing and her head tilting slightly before she looks up at you. You shrug; at least someone else sees it. Then she coughs, a clearly fake 'let's break this up' kind of cough that does its job and snaps Natasha back to the present.
"Oh, right, yes, this is my sister, Yelena. Yelena, this is Y/N, and their younger sister, Wanda."
Wanda frowns slightly at the way Natasha introduces her, until you subtly elbow her side and nod towards Yelena, encouraging her to shake the Widow's outstretched hand.
"It's nice to meet you," Yelena remarks, "I've heard a lot from Natasha already."
Both Wanda and Natasha look sheepish then, and you sigh, moving to shake Yelena's hand. She possesses a knowing smirk and looks from you to the blushing pair; this time, you confirm her suspicions with a nod.
"Pleasure to meet you, Yelena, I do hope you're staying; I'm sure we'll find plenty to talk about."
"Oh I'm sure we will."
»»————- ★ ————-««
Yelena did stay, in a move that did wonders for your sanity, though she found herself growing closer to Wanda than to you, thanks to their matching ages and your already close relationship with her sister. But that didn't deter the gossiping between you two; if anything, it encouraged it.
There were no secrets within the newly formed quartet: Wanda whines to you about her crush on Natasha, Natasha whines to Yelena about her crush on Wanda, then you and Yelena meet twice a week to laugh over the new comments your sisters had made. Not to mention the teasing between both the sibling duos and the friendship duos: you messing with Natasha, and Yelena doing the same to Wanda.
It was truly against both yours and Yelena's best efforts that neither Wanda nor Natasha had clocked each others' feelings yet – you weren't subtle about pointing it out to them.
Eventually, after a lengthy conversation with Yelena, and possibly a few too many vodka shots, the two of you decide to take the matter into your own hands. While your sisters are preoccupied planning the last minute details of their mission, you and Yelena approach Steve with a plan of your own; the biggest surprise of all being how quickly he agrees.
"Are you sure this will work?" Yelena asks.
"I've seen hundreds of shows and books where it happens, trust me."
"There's always the fall back after the mission is complete; it'll work one way or another."
"Are you sure you're okay with this, Steve?" the man had happily interjected, but you still felt like checking, "this doesn't seem like…your kind of style…"
"Meddling in relationships? Bucky and I have been doing it since '29; and now I have experience of what happens when you wait too long. I'm all in."
"Good. Then the plan's all set?"
"All ready to go; I'll keep you two informed… if your sisters don't kill me on the way home, that is."
Yelena shrugs, "I can't guarantee that they will not."
"I'll take the risk."
»»————- ★ ————-««
You waved Steve, Natasha, and Wanda off on their mission the next day; it was supposed to be fairly risk free: they would fly out and stay in a hotel overnight, then explore an abandoned HYDRA base for leads the next day. Though there was always a risk of things going wrong, it was safe enough that your… suggested adjustments were approved and set in place without Natasha or Wanda knowing, given they were the two parties involved.
The strategy was cliché and over done, but you wanted to see it play out, booking the pair of them into a room with only one bed. Of course Steve would never dream of sharing a bed with a lady, so he'd have to take the single while they share a double, possibly even confessing their feelings in the night. You didn't actually think it would work, despite what you told Yelena, but you'll take any opportunity to mess with your sister and your best friend.
Then there was Plan B, the backup strategy you hoped for sure would work: at the end of the mission, when the base is confirmed to be empty, the two women will enter a room that 'accidentally' shuts and locks behind them, forcing them to sit and talk until Steve comes to the rescue.
And to make things even better, you don't have to wait long to find out how it goes. The quinjet touches down the following evening; Steve is the first to walk out, with a sheepish bow of his head that tells you nothing important. But Yelena sighs, and you realise that you must have missed something.
"You got cau-"
A hand roughly shoves Yelena back, cutting off her assumption while simultaneously proving it correct. The hand was Natasha's; you only caught a moment of their exchange before your sister did the same to you, dragging you by the ear away from your ally, Yelena, and Steve, the accomplice who got himself caught.
"This was your doing, wasn't it?" Wanda chides the moment the two of you are alone. The Sokovian accent arises with her words, as it always does when her anger is prominent, and it is only then that you contemplate whether meddling had been a good idea after all.
"You have to give more information than that," you taunt further. Why? You don't know. Winding her up is just an occasional need, a familiarity that you're sure she enjoys more than she lets on.
"The one bed? The locked room? This has you written all over it; especially when I'm stuck with Tasha."
You don't miss the slip of a new nickname, but you also decide to wait until later to comment on it. Now is the time to come clean. "Well, uh… did it work?"
A blush rises immediately to Wanda's cheeks, and you realise this list of 'things to tease her about later' is growing large enough that you'll soon need a notebook to keep on top of it. Still, you wait for Wanda to confess it herself, which she does with a shy nod.
"The one bed thing, it made us talk, we were more open than usual. Then in the locked room she was frustrating herself looking for ways to escape, I told her then, to make her take a break and just talk to me."
"Sweet little Wands making the first move! I never thought I'd see the day!"
"Shut up," she groans, though you know by the restrained smile that she doesn't mean it, "I'm still mad at you for meddling."
"It wasn't just me, you know!"
"Oh I know, Tash is scolding Yelena right now and Steve's already had it. You all better be sorry."
"We did you both a service, and do we get a thanks? Nooo, reprimanded instead," you mutter with an accompanying eye roll.
Wanda catches it and glares. "I will blast you through this wall right now-"
»»————- ★ ————-««
Despite Wanda’s words, and Natasha’s faux disappointed look when she passes you later, you know neither of them hold true resentment over the incident; the amusement of acting cross displays in their eyes and in the upturned corners of their mouths, even if they hide it in their expressions.
It only takes a day after that for things to settle back into the old routine, with only a slight difference stemming from the dating Avengers. You and Natasha go back to training together and watching movies afterwards, while Wanda and Yelena do the same – it is only when your two activities overlap, and the flirting begins between the new couple, that you exchange one assassin for another and hurry away from the scene with Yelena.
It’s a necessary move since, as the months pass, Wanda and Natasha only grow more carefree in their expressions of affection, something which comes to a head in the common room one evening, while playing a game of truth or dare:
“Has anyone ever made you scream?”
If Tony’s question aimed to draw out stories of your childhood pranks on Wanda, then it was severely misjudged; you had spent many nights comforting your younger sister as Stark’s bombs rained down on the city, and you worry for what Wanda’s reaction will be. You prepare to defend her, but then she smiles, and you think she’s getting ready to scold him herself. Wanda glances at Natasha and the assassin smirks into her drink; it’s an odd reaction, you think, until you realise what Wanda is actually going to say:
“Nat’s made me scream; almost every ni-”
“Ah stop! Stop! Enough! I don’t need to hear about my sister like that. God.”
Yelena storms out, dragging you with her by the wrist. Since you still face the group, you take this as your opportunity to fake disappointment, shaking your head slowly at the couple. You do eventually turn and walk beside Yelena, once you’re out of sight, and follow her back to her room. The two of you take the places that have become your designated spots in times such as these, and she offers you a drink.
“So,” you begin, “how long are we staying ‘angry’ this time?”
“Hour or so? The horrified sister act takes its toll.”
“We could always stop pretending.” You say with a deadpan expression; Yelena stares back with the same, until the two of you break into laughter.
“As if,” Yelena laughs, “how do we double down next time?”Bringing Yelena home might have been Natasha’s worst mistake. She and Wanda would never be free of your scheming.

Lokabrenna
(1-?)
Tumblr media
Short story # 16
✨Fandom(s) - Vikings & The Last Kingdom
💍Pairing - Osferth X Reader
🕯Summary - After many years, you and your brothers are reunited with your father, King Ragnar. Along side him are two men you've never met. And when met face to face with your father, you unleash your rage of being abandoned.
⚠️Warning(s) - Talk of mutilation, near death experience, abandonment, and that's about it I think.
📝Note(s) - Okay so I randomly started brewing this story in my head. I've watched all but like the last season of Vikings, and this story will have little to do with the storyline up until the point Ragnar comes back. Now I've never watched The Last Kingdom, I want to start watching it soon, but as I am writing this piece I haven't watched any. So this crossover will be interesting to say the least. Oh and I apologize but I am writing this with the idea that the reader is about 6'7", and in time I'll explain why in later notes. But for the most part this won't be mentioned, but it will pop up every so often. Reader is also described to have emerald green eyes, dark hair the first two things being things from her mother, and scars she obtained as a girl. Other than that the readers image is up to you. So the read is kinda like an OC but with your name, and the majority of your image. Oh and in this story the Norse Gods are real, and several will be involved in this story. But some things to do with the Gods isn't actually a part of Norse mythology, I'm just bending some of it to work best with the story. (Thank you for taking the time to read the notes if you have.)
🗝Key information - Lokabrenna meaning Loki's Torch in this story. (Eventually it will make perfect sense.)
🌬Year posted - 2022
📖Reading time roughly - Ten minutes.
🙈Rating - SFW/NSFW
◈ Part 1.) | Part 2.) |

Sparing with Björn was something (Y/n) indulged with most days, as he was the only one of her brothers willing to spar with her, and the only one that would push her to better her skills. Though her twin, Ivar would likely spar with her and push her to be the best, his legs prevented him from being able to do as much as Björn could. The others watched their eldest brother fought with their little sister, who wasn't quite so little, as she stood roughly four inches above Björn. Ubbe chuckled when (Y/n) slammed her shield into Björns, making the blond stumble back several inches. "You can do better than that." (Y/n) taunted her brother, blocking his sword and countering swiftly, her blade resting beside his neck. "Honestly I'm beginning to think you are getting old brother." She teased, making the others snicker on the sidelines. Björn scoffed with a grin, breaking away from her and beginning the fight again.
"King Ragnar has returned." A voice called out, the words making (Y/n)'s stance falter, giving Björn the opportunity to trip her, making her land face first into the dirt. "Shit." Björn muttered under his breath, realizing his mistake, he tossed his shield and sword aside. The others approaching as she rolled onto her back, looking to the blue sky with glossy emerald eyes. "I didn't mean to-" She cut Björn off. "It isn't that." She closed her eyes for a moment, only opening them again when Ivar brushed her hair away from her eyes. "He doesn't know she is alive." Ivar reminded their brothers in a soft tone, making the eldest sigh with realization. Björn offered his hand to (Y/n), pulling her to her feet when she accepted his offer. "Well then, he will be surprised hm." The blond patted her shoulder affectionately, smiling when she chuckled at that. "Come on then, let's go see the old man." She dusted herself off then followed behind her brother's, keeping pace with Ivar as she always would.
The growing crowd parted for the arrival of the Princes and Princess, allowing Ragnar to see his children for the first time in many years. The shock apparent when his eyes laid on (Y/n), who stood tall beside her brother's, trying to suppress her emotions. "(Y/n)." Ragnar breathed out her name, tears welling in his eyes at the sight of his only surviving daughter. Ragnar approached her with slow steps, as if he was afraid she would vanish if he approached to quickly. "Little (Y/n)." He smiled taking in the sight of her. "Not so little any more." He remarked with a grin, his eyes casting to her left where Ivar sat, his pointer finger curled around (Y/n)'s, something they had done since birth for comfort. "Hello Ivar." Ragnar smiled down at his youngest son, and for a moment Ivar mirrored his smile, until (Y/n) suddenly shoved Ragnar away. The crowd grew deathly silent, watching the scene unfold before them.
"You left me." She hissed lowly, looming over her father. "I didn't-." Ragnar tried, but she stalked forward, putting her face into his. "You left me for dead." (Y/n) growled quietly, fire practically glowing within her emerald orbs. "I thought you had died." He argued. "I called out to you, I screamed so you would hear me. And yet you left me to burn in that dragons fire." Her gaze cast to the two strange men accompanying the King. "Let me guess, this is the boy you took in after you abandoned me?" She accused, Ragnar's eyes shimmering with shame. "You left all of us, but you would raise this stranger as if he were your own." She scoffed. "You think we did not know? That we didn't keep an eye on you? That we wouldn't hear about the young warrior claiming to be another son of King Ragnar?" She straightened her back, looming over her father once more. "You are no King, and you are no father, you are just an old man wallowing in self pity." She hissed before turning her back on him.
"I am your father, and I am your King!" Ragnar yelled, his anger only fueling (Y/n)'s rage. She quickly spun on her heel, and Björn tried catching her arm as she moved to swing. He failed in holding her back, instead he only pulled two of her rings off before her fist collided with Ragnar's jaw, the warn man fell to one knee, blood oozing from his lip. "You stopped being my father when you left me for dead, and you are a worthless King that even the Gods do not recognize." Her voice boomed over the crowd, and as quickly as she had said that, she stormed off. Shoving her way through the crowd, unaware of her brother's following her. Björn crouched down to pick up (Y/n)'s rings, which had fallen to the ground. While Uhtred and Osferth helped Ragnar to his feet, despite the old King's demands to be left alone. "You are not the man I once knew." Björn commented as he rose to his feet, looking his father in the eyes. "Like (Y/n)... I cannot forgive you for what you did to her." He added before walking away, intent on joining his siblings again.

(Y/n) began her trek into the woods, her sword secured to her hip, and her large grey cloak fastened around her shoulders. "Princess wait a moment." Uhtred called out as he and Osferth jogged after her into the woods. "Why should I even speak to you?" She glowered at the man, who looked almost sheepish before her. "I'm sorry." He offered, which only confused her. "Why are you sorry?" She questioned. "Because of your father." He explained. "I am not angry at my father for raising you... I am angry that he so easily abandoned me and my brothers. And yet instead of coming home, with or without you, he stayed out there and pretended as if he wasn't a King, as if he didn't have his own children to care for." She turned away and began walking again, only for the men to follow her. "You said he left you for dead? I had assumed he left you here with your brothers." He spoke up again, his words causing her to stop again. "My father took me with him when he ran away from Kattegat, I was to young to understand what was happening." She pulled her hood down, properly observing the two.
"I was with him for two years, we lived in a cabin far from here. One evening while he was out hunting a dragon descended upon the cabin. It set the cabin on fire while I was trapped inside, I cried out for my father to save me, but he never came. The dragon had left as quickly as it came, and I was left alone to burn alive." The smaller of the two grimaced at her words. "I found myself trapped in the best place however, as the smoke could not reach me. When part of the wall finally crumbled to the ground, I crawled as best I could out of the cabin. I was weak, and burnt badly. The sky was dark by this point, and my father nowhere in sight." She licked her lips before continuing. "I did the only thing I could think to do, I wept for the Gods. Praying that one of them would hear me, and offer me aid. The wolf God Fenrir heard me, and sent his sons Hati and Sköll to aid me. They found me and used what little magic they could to mend my wounds, which did very little, but it kept me alive long enough for them to bring me home."
She pulled to cord of her cloak, allowing it to fall to the ground. "They ran for seven days and eight nights with me atop Hati until they reached Kattegat. They broke into my families long house, with me on the brink of death, and the moment my mother laid eyes on me she knew what had happened. For she dreamt about it the very same night it happened. She sent for healers from far and wide, and with their help I was nurtured back to health. I bare the scars of my father's negligence, and can never forgive him for it." She turned her back to the men, and quickly swept her shirt up to show them, the mass amount of burnt skin stretched across the expanse of her back. "Gods." Uhtred muttered under his breath, the both of them stunned by the sheer amount of tattered skin, each wondering how she could survive such a thing. The sound of a branch snapping caught their attention, and just as her brothers walked into view (Y/n) dropped her shirt, now facing her brother's.
"You are going to see him aren't you? To pay tribute?" Ubbe asked as she picked up her cloak. "I am." She nodded her head in agreement. "We're coming with you." Björn stated. "Why?" She wondered. "We wish to give thanks to the ones who saved you." Ivar cut in, moving around Ubbe to sit at her feet. "Hvitserk, Sigurd, why are you coming? Neither of you have ever seemed to care much about me." She tilted her head, her words making Hvitserk scoff. "You are still our sister." Sigurd argued. "We care more deeply than you think." Hvitserk added. "Okay... You can all come with me." She smiled at her brother's, her gaze casting to Uhtred and Osferth when Uhtred cleared his throat. "Who are you going to see?" He questioned. "Fenrir wolf." Her words stunned them both for a moment. "We shall come as well." Uhtred insisted. "And why is that?" (Y/n) questioned. "I feel that we must." He vaguely explained, making (Y/n) arch a brow at him.
"If that is what you wish, then so be it." She turned her attention then to Ivar. "I shall carry you Ivar, this is a long journey, and I do not wish for you to suffer." She knelt before him. "So you shall suffer instead?" Ivar argued stubbornly. "I will happily suffer for you dear brother." She assured him, before playfully bumping her forehead against his. Only turning her back to him when he grinned at her, and effortlessly she hoisted her twin onto her back, and rose to her feet. "We will not be back until tomorrow evening." She warned them, half expecting Uhtred and Osferth to turn back. A faint grin ghosting her lips when they continued to follow her lead deeper into the woods. "I didn't expect Fenrir to be so close to Kattegat." Uhtred remarked. "He isn't. But one of the passageways to him is." (Y/n) explained, the entire encounter leaving Osferth confused in his silence, though he continued to follow his friend regardless of his doubts.

The Cullen family had been preparing for weeks, their supernatural powers honed to a razor's edge. The impending battle against Victoria and her army loomed on the horizon, and time was running out. They had been training tirelessly with Sam's pack, determined to gain the upper hand when the confrontation finally came to Forks.
One night, as the moon hung low in the sky, a new arrival interrupted their rigorous training. Garrett, an old friend of Carlisle, emerged from the shadows. His arrival was unexpected, but not unwelcome. Carlisle had invited him to join the fight due to Garrett's unique abilities – he could charm his opponents with his wits and his striking looks, making him a valuable asset.
"Sorry for being late," Garrett said with a wry grin as he approached Carlisle and the rest of the Cullen family. "My mate wasn't too keen on the idea of joining this little skirmish at first, but I managed to convince her."
Carlisle raised an eyebrow, intrigued. "Is your mate here with you, Garrett?"
Garrett shook his head, a hint of mystery in his eyes. "Not exactly. She's not much of a social person, you see. She's taken to watching your family from afar."
Edward, with his gift of mind reading, looked genuinely surprised. "I can't sense her presence at all. It's as if she doesn't exist."
Garrett chuckled softly. "That's one of her abilities. You won't know she's there unless she wants to be seen."
Carlisle was genuinely impressed. "It must be quite a gift. What kind of abilities does she possess?"
Garrett's gaze turned distant for a moment, a hint of pride in his voice. "She picked up some rather unique skills during her human days as a sniper. Her marksmanship is unparalleled, and she can move with unparalleled stealth. She's a force to be reckoned with, even if you can't see her."
As the Cullen family absorbed this new information, the weight of their impending battle felt slightly lighter. With Garrett's charm and his enigmatic mate's sniper skills, they had an unexpected advantage. The battle against Victoria and her army was approaching, but now they had allies with talents beyond their imagination, lurking in the shadows.
As the days passed, the Cullen family continued their rigorous training under the watchful eyes of Sam's pack and the mysterious presence of Garrett's mate. From the shadows, she observed their every move, her keen eyes missing nothing.
Garrett chuckled as he picked up yet another note left at their doorstep. It had become a routine, these cryptic messages from his unseen mate. "Well, (Y/N) is a sneaky one, aye," he mused, shaking his head in amusement.
Jasper, with his heightened sensitivity to emotions, felt a sudden jolt of surprise. His head snapped toward Garrett, his eyes wide with disbelief. "What did you say her name was?"
Garrett raised an eyebrow at Jasper's reaction. "Her name's (Y/N). Why do you ask?"
Jasper's thoughts raced as he struggled to process the revelation. "She's alive? No, she can't be. It's been centuries."
Confusion rippled through the group as they exchanged puzzled glances. Carlisle stepped forward, concern etched on his face. "Jasper, are you alright? What do you mean, it's been centuries?"
Jasper took a deep breath, his gaze distant as he recounted a piece of his own history. "I knew someone with the same name a long time ago, during my human life. She was a soldier, and we fought together. But I was told she died in action, and it's highly unlikely that it's the same person."
The shock and disbelief in Jasper's voice hung heavy in the air. His memories had been stirred by the mere mention of (Y/N)'s name. The Cullen family couldn't help but wonder if there was a connection, no matter how improbable it seemed.
Garrett observed their reactions, his mate's enigmatic notes suddenly taking on a new significance. Could it be possible that (Y/N) was more than just a skilled sniper with an uncanny ability to remain hidden? Had she crossed paths with Jasper in her human life, only to reappear now, centuries later?
The mysteries surrounding (Y/N) deepened, and the Cullen family couldn't ignore the intriguing possibility that her presence held more secrets than they could fathom. As they continued their preparations for the impending battle, they couldn't help but wonder if fate had a role to play in bringing them all together once more.
The day of the battle had arrived, and the Cullen family stood ready, their determination unwavering. Sam's pack lurked in the shadows of the forest, waiting for the signal to join the fray. Garrett, with his charming presence, stood at the forefront, a glimmer of confidence in his eyes.
High in the trees, (Y/N) watched it all unfold, her keen eyes focused on the impending confrontation. As the battle began, the Cullens fought alongside Garrett and Sam's pack, their graceful movements contrasting the frenzied aggression of the newborn vampires.
(Y/N) remained silent, merely observing from her concealed vantage point. She knew her time would come, but for now, she was content to let her alter ego, Snipe, watch and wait.
But then, as the chaos of the battle raged on, (Y/N) spotted a newborn vampire sneaking up behind a large brown wolf. In an instant, her instincts took over, and she couldn't remain hidden any longer.
"Snipe!" she called out within her mind, summoning her alter ego.
With a burst of supernatural speed and strength, Snipe emerged, her movements reckless and ferocious. She lunged at the newborn vampire, tearing into the creature with ruthless efficiency. The Cullens and the wolves were taken aback by the sheer brutality of her actions, as Snipe literally ripped the heads off vampires with frightening speed.
The battle was over almost as quickly as it had begun, and Snipe stood panting, her thrill for combat still coursing through her veins. Jasper, who had also shifted into his alter ego, the Major, demanded to know who she was, his eyes filled with a mix of astonishment and recognition.
Snipe turned to face Jasper, a wicked grin on her face. "Now, that isn't any way to talk to your sister, who happens to be older than you by a whole minute."
The revelation hung in the air, leaving the Cullen family and the wolves stunned. It was a moment of both disbelief and astonishment as they tried to process everything.
The battle had ended, and Sam's pack had departed, leaving the Cullen family to return to their home alongside Garrett and the enigmatic (Y/N). As they made their way back to the Cullen house, Garrett couldn't resist teasing her.
"So, you have a brother?" he asked with a mischievous grin.
(Y/N) rolled her eyes and smirked. "And you have a furry fetish. What's new?"
Garrett chuckled and playfully wrestled her, their supernatural strength making the exchange a playful one. "Hey, I don't have a furry fetish," he protested with a grin.
(Y/N) laughed and shifted back from her alter ego, Snipe. She glanced at Garrett with a knowing look. "Says the guy who was playing tag with that young wolf, Seth, right?"
The Cullens watched the playful banter between Garrett and (Y/N) with bemusement, but they were curious about something else. Carlisle spoke up, breaking the playful pair. "What did you mean earlier when you mentioned being related to Jasper?"
(Y/N) sighed and looked down for a moment, her expression growing serious. "Well, it's a long story. When Jasper and I were human, he had to leave for the war. I couldn't bear the thought of being separated from my twin, so I did something reckless. I snuck off and pretended to be a male to join the army."
The Cullens exchanged surprised glances as they listened to her confession. (Y/N) continued, her voice tinged with regret. "But then, on the battlefield, I was turned into a vampire, and my creator left me to fend for myself. I couldn't find Jasper, and I was consumed by newborn rage. I ended up slaughtering those in my camp, in a blind frenzy, when I couldn't find my twin."
Her words hung heavy in the air, the weight of her past actions sinking in. The Cullens, who had only known snippets of Jasper's history, were now confronted with the full extent of (Y/N)'s tragic past, a past that had led to her transformation into a vampire and her eventual reunion with her brother.
