question for my fellow merthur compatriots, i recently started reading a merlin canon fix-it where merlin’s modern name was emrys hunithson, and like i love that name, touching, meaningful. but that and another post on this website has me thinking about the lovely alternatives merlin might use as his name in a modern world.
like yeah, he could go by merlin emrys, merlin hunithson, emrys hunithson
but imagine if he took up the last name pendragon.
1500 years pass and merlin’s traveling the world as merlin pendragon, as emrys pendragon or better yet
ambrose pendragon.
merlin signs all his contracts and credit card receipts with the name a. pendragon.
arthur and the rest of the roundtable + gwen + morgana return but can’t find merlin. WHY?
because they’re looking for the wrong name.

The comedy of Trolls getting its flowers finally and being recognized as a fun series after the most recent movie when the first one has had me in a chokehold for years. When I used to have Netflix I would just watch that whenever I wanted to have fun.
Sometimes adulthood is looking at a jukebox musical based on a kids toy, and just deciding "yeah actually this is a good movie."

Merlin, while being spooned by Arthur and wearing the tunic Arthur had given him with other "friendly" gifts delivered by himself with a bouquet of flowers every time: Surely this is all platonic

Though no man,
no matter how great,
can know his destiny,
some lives have been foretold, Merlin...
Arthur is not just a King–
he is the Once and Future King.
Take heart,
for when Albion's need is greatest,
Arthur will rise again.

the fact that shilo really keeps saying "my brother" versus emizel feels really intentional- it's also so commendable how much they trust and care for each other already. shilo not wanting to lose emizel and emizel caring deeply (in his own way) for shilo. they're both already clinging onto each other, but shilo is just more verbal about it- which could have interesting implications

I struggle to put this into words but the way Arthur deals with his illness is so upsettingly relatable as someone who deals with chronic illness/disability.
How he's not honest with the people around him about his illness. Going along with what people ask of him because the alternative is admitting to them (and maybe himself) just how sick he is and his physical limits.
The frustration that those physical limits make easy, simple, everyday tasks, things he has always been able to do, things he thinks he should still be able to do, embarrassingly complicated and difficult.
Struggling to pace himself even after he knows he's sick, even after he discovers his new limits, because things still need to get done, he just needs to push through it. Just this one more thing, even though every last thing he pushes through will just make him sicker and make the next "last thing" even harder.
Losing his status/position within his community as a direct result of losing his strength and ability. Losing all the parts of his identity that were tied up in that position and ability. Reckoning with who he is after all that is taken away.
