Made a post a few months back annoyed at sasuke fans for insulting people if they don't like sasuke. And mentioning that I was annoyed sakura's whole development gets overwritten to get them together.
And a sasuke fan commented that "well he was her source of validation and she wouldn't developed if he hadn't left. Get better" like bro. You're proving my point. That said if you do this I'll just block you because it's clear you don't want to have a nuanced conversation about the flaws in the writing of naruto and how badly kishimoto consistently handles his women.

Mashima's biggest hindrance in fairy tail is his need to put pervy content in. Now I don't mean this as a "pervy=bad". I enjoy one piece. I can handle it to a certain extent.
But his need to make all his women scantily clad at the very least and naked at worst throughout the series, purposefully have them in embarrassing situations that humiliate them, and include older men leering at young girls will always give me the ick.
Macao and wakaba could've been cool characters, or at least interesting. I'd have loved to see what their specific dynamics with gildarts and the other older mages are and maybe even their history together. And yet Mashima can't go a single arc that includes them without them making weird comments about the girls they either watched grow up, or girls who are still underage.
And beyond just the in universe guys, his desperation to have his women be "sexy" means a lot of the unique, interesting clothing he used to draw for them gets often tossed aside in favor of showing as much skin on them as he can without outright making them naked. Now there are female characters who this can work for. Fem fatales being the best example, flirtatious women who are comfortable in their bodies being another, heck even mages that use water or solar power I could excuse it on. But it's every female character regardless of how little it makes sense for them.
And this isn't even getting into the weird stuff he does with Wendy and Chelia and the arc that aged down the characters leading to some incredibly icky panels.
Fairy tail can be so much fun. There are solid ideas and some really great twists. But so often it devolves into creepy territory that rereading later arcs feels like a chore.

Both Fairy tail and Gajevy would've benefited from team shadowgear getting more of a spotlight in the series. I say this as someone who has shipped gajeel and Levy since the series was still ongoing and largely they were the reason I finished Fairy tail at all when it got clear mashima had lost his excitement.
A big issue with Gajeel and Levy is that when it comes to plots involving them there really isn't any other connections they have that get any focus. Levy formed a team with her childhood friends and yet outside of the gags of them being her fan club, Droy being fat, and them being subpar mages we get no content for them.
And in Gajeel's corner we can't pretend like his bond with Juvia and her going to him when she wanted to join fairy tail wasn't a conceptually fun idea. Why didn't we get plotpoints that reinforced their bond throughout the series, why not lean into the idea of Gajeel and her having a found sibling bond.
On top of that Juvia really never joins a team, so her and gajeel being integrated into shadowgear and a friendship forming between those five would give Juvia plot and growth outside of her obsession with gray.
I know typically in shounen adventure shows we focus on one group, but with a series like fairy tail where we keep returning to one place with a large cast of side characters who exist from very early on, branching off to other points of view to flesh out the world and characters would be incredibly beneficial.

Things I think would've been fascinating to include in fairy tail:
Heavier emphasis on organized religion
Specifically on how religious figures respond to demons, monsters, and magic.
Mirajane changing so much following the death of lisanna due to monster/demon magic being claimed as taboo by the church. Mirajane experiences so much guilt and the belief that it's her fault she becomes incredibly religious. How she unpacks it over the course of the story.
Celestial mages being acolytes of the church with the idea of Layla breaking off to marry Lucy's dad and her lineage stretching back to the first acolytes of the church.
Mavis leading a religious army after being manipulated by Zeref into believing she was a chosen of the gods, and her connection to the church/king allowing her to form fairy tail with financial support. The difference between what the guild was and what it currently is.
Juvia choosing to opt out of the S-class exam and instead focusing on self healing and growing out of her gray obsession. Her, Jet, and Droy bonding in their grief about Levy and Gajeel disappearing and Juvia herself seeking out old phantom lord friends to reconnect and inform of Gajeel.
Nab and Vijeeter getting proper characters and a focus on how their magic could be powerful and terrifying.
Building off of Mest existing, make a stealth group who speaks directly to Makarov taking missions he approves. They get sent on infiltration missions and are typically overlooked in fairy tail itself. They never take the s-class exam so their exact magical abilities never get publicized.
A longer gap in between the founding of fairy tail and the modern day so Mavis has more time to become a legend that few if any know the truth of.
Actual consequences for magic usage beyond just tapping out mana. Erza's armors all having unique drawbacks, natsu having to build up his tolerance to fire as a child and constantly underthreat of overheating and boiling his insides if he goes to far, etc.
Erza going on quests specifically to find unique armor sets that all have some historical meaning behind them that we as the audience get to hear about (connecting to a previous point, her heavens wheel armor being one of the remaining sets from Mavis' army)
Chapters from the POV of the guildmates left behind in-between the 7 year time skip to build up the excitement for the group return.

I think I might try a few armor redesigns for Erza along with giving actual drawbacks for using each one. Cause mashima only really going "erza can use up her mana if she uses to much" feels like a cop out to me.

So I know people hate Kipperlilly and that's valid, but the tragedy of her existing as she is especially after the most recent episode actually makes me feel so bad for her. I hope the rat grinders get redemption.
Kipperlilly has wanted to succeed for so long, she had irrational hatred for her peers because she wanted success and glory and was unremarkable in her life. She was jealous and trying and thought that her unremarkable existence could be overshadowed if she simply was the best. But everything she did to get success only further cemented her into being forgettable. She gets so angry over this and as someone who was an irrationally angry teenager I get it so much.
And she was aware of this. She regularly visited Jawbone and we can't pretend it wasn't because she was selfaware of her own shortcomings. She knew her anger was messed up and I just know she was trying to figure out some way to get rid of it. Because being that angry all the time is horrible. She was probably frustrated and just wanted to cope. And jawbone helped. He wasn't perfect but he helped and that's why this girl from freshman to sophomore year kept returning.
She was self aware enough for his subtle questions to help her calm down. And yet an adult in her life was made aware of her mental health problems and chose to exploit them. Things she confided to a trusted adult got turned back on her leading to her and her party becoming tools, or dying if they refused.
Now kipperlilly isn't faultless. She's killed people, she's antagonistic and cruel, but her being a victim and a teenager just trying to get help makes me so incredibly sad for what she's become.

Riz has spent this whole season, struggling so much and trying so hard to squeeze blood from a stone, to be in a dozen places at once, to stay afloat, to secure his future, to save the world (again), barely having time to spend with his mom and literally having to be in hell so he can have a few blessed minutes to chat with his murdered father about work (which yes, is an act of love when a Gukgak is doing it but God, he's so tired).
And Kipperlilly is watching this kid, who is taking stress tokens for his friends even though he's at capacity himself, whose blood is more coffee than anything else at this point because you can't solve problems when you're asleep, who signed up for an exam with a 100% mortality rate for lack of other viable options, and saying to herself, "You lucky bastard. It's not fair."
