What does a Tumblr "Like" mean to you?
I'm just very personally curious. I'd love some sweet reblog action to get a good sample size, Eddie! P-p-p-p-please!
Thanks for your insight, pals!

Posts are too popular? Worry not. Consider your notifications covered.
Sound familiar?
Broken the internet with a post? We love that for you. What we love a little less is the barrage of likes and reblogs you have probably received. This can be a little intense. A bit much. Stressful, even. And unnecessarily so.Β
If your post has gone stratospheric, but you donβt want to completely mute notifications for it, we are working on something that might just help. We are experimenting with grouping your push notifications from anyone you donβt follow into neat, occasional summaries. This will roll out to a small number of you, first as an A/B test, for a limited time.
Why are we doing this?
We hope to steady, streamline, and calm your Tumblr experience when youβre grappling with overwhelming notifications from a popular post or reblog. The goal here is to reduce overload so you can receive the notifications you care about the mostβwhile keeping up to speed with everything else.
In July, you may remember that we turned on post-level muting on the web. We also extended muting to affect your activity feed, as well as your push notifications. This feature is the next step in managing notification overloadβone that will make your devices a little more peaceful and, hopefully, work a little more proactively against the problem.
Before and after:
Feedback?
Weβre all ears. Let us know what you think in the repliesβwe would love to hear from you. And we will be back in touch with updates on this test in the near future.Β

I feel like it needs to be pointed out that the new feature that explicitly tells people youβve liked a post as part of recommending it could potentially out a lot of queer people. I know when I was closeted I liked a bunch of lgbtqia+ related posts, and I would not have felt safe doing that if I knew one of those posts could potentially be seen by someone else with my username attached to it. I also like a lot of my mutualsβ personal posts, which would be inappropriate to be algorithmically presented to other people due to them being about their lives, or mental health etc.
I know you guys are weirdly focussed on generating likes (tumblr works on reblogs, not likes, but I understand thereβs a disconnect between how the users use this site and how you think it should be used that seems to be driving a lot of these awful changes), but I think this feature will actively dissuade people from liking posts - and since thatβs something you want people to do, it would be in your best interests to consider how youβre actively working against your own goal with this feature.
Just something to think about.
Answer: Hello @senzasord!
Thank you for raising this with us, first of all.
We hope we bring good news for you and anyone else concerned by this issue. If you have your likes hidden, we wonβt show the username with the recommendation.
And itβs exceedingly simple to do. You can toggle this feature offΒ either at this linkΒ or by selecting "Blog settings" in the right navigation from your blog.
See the screenshot below for the button you want to toggle.
Best,
βJulia

Of course he is.
We almost received them liking a suggestive poetry answer. We were this close to perfection.
Sigh... I'll take it
