I just read a fic of this event where everything goes according to canon but at the end Bruce subdues Jason in chains as Jason screams and cries that Bruce was supposed to choose him! If Bruce loved him he wouldn't have hesitated and he would have chose him and all Bruce did was placate him and ignore his words. Honestly it sat a little sour because the fic continued on as though this was the start to Jason's reentry to the family because Bruce faced him head on, stopped him, and "comforted" him when in actuality he didn't change his behavior at all. It's bitter because we all know that Bruce can't chose Jason.

Jason gave him three options but there are only two results. Either Joker dies and Jason is left alive or Joker lives and Jason is too dead to care. That’s not an accident you have to understand.

It’s the most miserable “win if I win, win if I lose” I’ve ever seen set up and it worked. The neck slice moment isn’t just written for shock value it’s a demonstration of the truth of Jason’s point. Sometimes refusing to choose one over the other is just a choice for the other.
