The exotic 🆚️ mundane. Our minds love variety. Give your dog or child a new toy and they will much prefer that one to the old one. It's natural and normal. (But it's good to keep it in check) 🧠 I see this in herbalism and the health/healing world. Folks are looking for the new thing, the new trend, the new diet etc. Searching for some exotic plant from a far away land. Perhaps hidden in the jungle of the Amazon or some high mountain top in Asia. It was spirulina a couple years ago, then reishi, now ashwaganda. 🦣 🏞 Funny thing is. The most potent medicine for you is usually in your backyard. The plants, foods and herbs your ancestors consumed is what your DNA is used to and your body loves it! ❤️ Also the plants that grow near you want to get to know you. They want to have a relationship with you. And that is a big part of healing. Look around. What is growing abundantly around you? They have teachings, messages, insights and medicine. In herbalism it is known that what grows around your home is significant medicine for you. 🌿 I have found this true for me. One house I lived in there was dandelion everywhere and it was a time where my liver needed extra love. I also needed more resiliency which is what dandelions flower essence does. Another time I lived in a house surrounded by horsetail. And it was a time I needed minerals because I had been depleted from stress. We may crave the exciting new thing. No shame there, it's natural and normal. But the mundane is very special too. What is right in front of us, the things we are accustomed to are significant even if we have become jaded. The dandelion we curse because it makes our lawn spotted with yellow, only wishes to be of service to us. The thistles and burdock we chop, because they don't belong in "our" yard, are here to help us. The medicine we call weeds have life saving properties. 🌼 And they are mundane.They are medicine. They are amazing. The mind seeks that which imbalances it.The body craves what balances it. ⚖️ For example - Our mind likes what further exaggerates it's condition. If the mind is stressed it will continue to be attracted to stressful situations. When the mind is in Rajas (movement) it will be attracted to more movement. To more stimulation. 💥 (remember MSN messenger? Then Facebook, then Instagram and now tic tok- it keeps getting faster and more intense because the minds are desiring this) Have you ever found when you are stressed or overwhelmed you keep reaching to your phone to stroll? Have you ever craved alcohol when you were stressed to take the edge off? That's the mind in Rajas. When its caught in the loop of restlessness. When our mind is dull or depressed, its in the state of Tamas. It craves sweets, inertia and low vibe movies or media, negative conversations etc. Its dull and depressed. 😶‍🌫️ Our ideal mental state is sattva. When our mind is balanced, connected to our higher self. We gain this state through meditation, controlling the senses and increasing our consciousness. 🧘‍♀️🧘‍♂️ Our body craves that which balances it. When we are cold we crave warming, oily foods. When we are hot we crave cooling foods. When we are tired we crave sleep. The key is to know who is in charge. Who is craving. Is it our mind or our body? The mind can hijack the body with its cravings. 🐙 How do we know? By meditation, by developing awareness and listening to our body. When we meditate we hear the demands of the mind but we don't react. We watch. Then we can have discrimination and know what is what.
