Whereabouts
Instead of hijacking @wildfernflower's excellent reblog of this post (https://www.tumblr.com/bat-cat-reader/728749633773404160/cait-looks-hot-happy-and-content-both-her?source=share), I decided to write my own.
But first, I have to quote @wildfernflower, because she is damn right:
'There is a lot of time in his life, far away from his socials, filled with stuff we'll never know about. People read his post one day, learn what he's currently doing or where he currently is (or rather where he wants people to think he is), they're impatiently waiting for the next post that comes e.g. in 2 or 3 days, and have an illusion nothing happened in between. They put these posts one after another on a fictious Sam’s timeline they create in their minds. In reality, these 2-3 days in between is a significant time gap, yet it miraculously disappears.'
You might find me insolent, but: this whereabouts obsession is one of the original sins of this fandom. Where are they right now? And with whom? Alone? Together? When did he/she went online last time, in which time zone and to do exactly what?
Let's face it: we wouldn't do that with our best friends IRL, perhaps and I would not do that with SO or my child(ren) if I had that privilege, which I don't. I remember my mother calling me at 7AM on a Sunday with that question and I also remember my very insolent answer - she understood very quickly it was not a good idea and never tried it again. So while I can see why this online timelines game was cute at the start, I can't, for the life of me, understand why it still apparently is a big deal and why some keep on playing it on behalf of two strangers? Especially when they know, by now, everything he posts is either a) advertising of his own projects and b) latergrams and also that she was never an enthusiastic poster (oh, yes: the banter - that is, I am afraid, long over, now).
This is the surest way to feed a never ending obsessive cycle and this is way above and beyond fandom behavior. This is also why I think timelines always have an agenda, especially when they pretend to explain a context in all its complexity, to a very thirsty and easily bored audience.
Take for example what Miss Marple called The Zanzibar Saga. At least fifty pages of multimedia content, with an almost frame-by-frame découpage and the proper identification of about 20% of the people on that damn boat. All of this in order to cover events that probably unfolded in the space of eight to ten hours tops of a single day.
In which world is this normal and in which legal system is this not stalking? Why is this happening: to feed the Fandom Beast or to further discredit a B-list actor, allowing all sorts of innuendoes, among which the a) high-functioning alcoholic, b) cheap womanizer and c) closeted gay are all 'possible', depending on each faction's (not fraction, Geachte mevrouw: that's algebra) POV? How is that evidence of anything else than an inordinate, obsessive and somewhat worrisome interest for that person?
This is OL. Not The Truman Show:
youtube
PS: In case you wonder, I will always stand up if what I consider to be red lines are being crossed, no matter who the person (cast or blogger) is. Yesterday/early morning today (timezones) it happened again and while I admit my reaction was uncharacteristically strong, so was the troll's message.
Next time, it could be anyone of us. Think about it. And next time, I will stand up again in solidarity, no matter who you are or what your shipper/believer take on SC is. And no, I do not expect anyone to do the same for me. It's not how these things work.

Chapter Thirteen: Outburst
Tim’s parents had to leave early one afternoon before dinner. I’d grown attached to Tim’s mom and dad. Especially Janet… And I knew why. I sat in the living room with Tim while he ate popcorn. “Tell them to stay,” I whispered.
Tim looked at me like I had two heads. “Why would I do that? They’ve been planning the Zanzibar trip for months. We’re here by ourselves all the time,” Tim replied. I shrugged, swallowing hard as I tried to seem like a normal human being. “Popcorn. Eat. Movie. Watch.”
Janet passed by my side of the couch, and I made eye contact with her. It was stupid and desperate and-. I cried. Tim was appalled, Janet was bewildered, and Mr. Drake was-. Well, he was uncomfortable. “Jason, what’s wrong?” Janet asked. She kneeled beside me and touched my face.
As soon as I started crying, I realized it was wrong. “Nothing… I’m sorry,” I replied, “I’m sorry. I just-. It’s dumb.”
“So dumb,” Tim muttered as he shoved the popcorn bowl in my arms. He stormed out of the room, and Janet felt split between us, so I wiped my tears away and made it easy for her. I stood up and chased Tim.
“Tim, I’m sorry,” I whimpered. He rushed upstairs, and I limped upstairs after him. “Tim, wait-.”
“What’s your deal? They’re my parents,” Tim whispered. He had every right to be angry with me.
“I said I was sorry. Tim, it was a stupid reflex,” I whispered, “I didn’t realize how much I miss my mom… I looked at your mom, and it-. Tim, I didn’t mean anything by it.”
Tim crossed his arms, but his expression softened. His eyes scanned me as he sighed. “Jason, you’re not my friend… You’re my brother, and I’m being selfish,” Tim mumbled, “There’s no reason why we can’t share parents.”
I rubbed my neck, still embarrassed by my outburst. “Tim, you don’t have to pretend you’re okay with-.”
“Jason, we’ve shared a bed. I know all your secrets. You know all mine… We spend every moment of every day together, and I have never been happier. I think-. My parents are hardly ever around, and it hurts. It’s gonna hurt a lot until you stop caring,” Tim explained, “I don’t want you to like my parents because I don’t want you to get your hopes up. You want a mom and dad that stay home and support you and have nice family dinners-. I hate that it’s not that way… But it’ll never be. Look downstairs. They’re gone because they couldn’t be late for their flight.”
I frowned. He was right. I got caught up in the delusion that they could be more than what they were. “I’m glad you don’t hate me… Can we finish the movie?” I asked. Tim nodded. The maid went to bed, and Tim pulled out his laptop.
He’d been itching to return to our plan despite me telling him parts of what was going on. “Jason, when are we gonna go through with the plan?” Tim questioned.
“Halloween… Or New Year’s… We’ve gotta wait for a time when people are extra weird because it’s harder for him to sift through the actual threats and the costumed partygoers,” I explained, “So, while everyone’s having the time of their life… We’ll show him that a couple of teenagers can do his job as well as he can.” Tim grinned.
“What were you gonna make for dinner?” Tim asked.
“I don’t know… Maybe quesadillas. Why?” I questioned.
Tim shrugged. He took the popcorn bowl from me and stared at the TV. “Last night… After you went to bed, I sat with my mom in her office. She told me she was worried I wasn’t happy. Mom was right… I hadn’t been happy. I was sort of-. I dunno… I was alive, but I wasn’t living. I have friends and stuff, but they don’t get me like you do. This is the happiest I’ve been since I was a little kid,” Tim confessed. I hugged my knees and nodded. “I don’t want to be alone anymore. So, I hope that after the plan’s over, and-.”
“Brothers, Tim. We’re brothers. This isn’t some group project where we part ways at the end. I promise,” I reassured him. Family was everything. He fell asleep after the movie ended. His arms lay limp at his sides while the popcorn bowl sat empty on his lap. I chuckled at his loosened jaw and open mouth.
*
Janet and Mr. Drake wouldn’t be back for at least three weeks. We finished Tim’s Robin costume by then, perfectly recreating my old one. That’s when we received a postcard. Tim tossed it in a box filled with other postcards. Our school closed for a few days for building maintenance… Which left us some time to goof around at the mall. We got milkshakes the size of our heads and walked through half the stores on the second level. It almost felt normal until I saw Bruce. “Tim, let’s go downstairs-.”
“Jason, it’s nice to see-.”
“It’s not nice for me,” I interrupted. Tim couldn’t look up from his drink.
“Well, I-. Don’t I have a right to know what you’ve been up to?” Bruce questioned.
“I’m gonna take Tim out of town,” I answered, “We’re killing time.”
“Overnight trip?” Bruce asked.
“Uh-huh… You want to hug me, don’t you?” I asked. Bruce nodded. I embraced him because I wanted to. I wrapped my arms around him and pressed my face into his chest. He smelled like fresh pine. Bruce rested his chin on top of my head. “I’m not coming home.”
Bruce didn’t immediately let go. “I know… Thanks for humoring me,” Bruce whispered.
“I’m not humoring you… I’m only hugging you because I miss you,” I confessed. It didn’t mean I forgave Bruce.
Bruce let go. “Go have fun,” Bruce whispered. He patted me on the shoulder as he left the store.
“What was that?” Tim asked.
I playfully knocked into Tim. “It’s complicated… Let’s get going. I wanna get a ferry out of here before it gets dark,” I whispered. Tim smiled as he followed me to the food court to get another milkshake, and we left the mall.
Tim shivered involuntarily. “I think these things have caffeine,” Tim laughed as the autumn breeze hit us. I snorted.
“Of course it does,” I chuckled. Tim and I walked to the train, and I sighed. “I’m not mad at him anymore… I’m not going home on principle.”
“What’s the principle?” Tim asked.
“The plan… And Bruce still hasn’t changed his mind about me,” I explained, “He’s wrong.”
Before Tim could reply, some guy pressed his pointer fingers to the back of our spines. “Oww!” I shrieked as I dropped to my knees. Everyone at the stop stared as I curled into a ball and pretended to be in excruciating pain. It wasn’t hard to sell it. I’d been there. The guy ran off, and Tim helped me up.
“Jeez, are you-? You were faking, weren’t you?” Tim half-smiled. I nodded as I dusted my clothes off.
“We’re lucky the train’s coming because we would’ve had to fight him… And that would’ve raised questions,” I whispered, “Besides, we wanna get to the ferry before it gets too dark.”

Thank u for the tag dear @lupinsmoons

Her style is new, but the face is the same as it was so long ago but from her eyes, a different smile like that of one who knows
2. What kind of [cancer] are you?
Son can you play me a memory? I'm not really sure how it goes but it's sad and it's sweet and I knew it complete when I wore a younger man’s clothes
3. You're visiting your favourite spot, what are you thinking about?
And I'm floating in a most peculiar way. And the stars look very different today.
4. If your life was a movie, what do you think the first review would say about it?
Ain't got no gun, ain't got no knife, don't you start no fight 'Cause I'm T.N.T. I'm dynamite, T.N.T. and I'II win the fight T.N.T. I'm a power load, T.N.T. watch me explode!
5. Say you get a book deal, what are you titling your memoir?
Melodrama's so much fun
6. What would you say about your best friends?
Ooh, lover boy (he's my good old-fashioned lover boy, ooh)
7. Think back to when you had everything all figured out in high school, what was your life motto as a teenager?
I gotta roll, can't stand still got a flamin' heart, can't get my fill
8. Describe your aesthetic now
I love rock 'n roll so put another dime in the jukebox, baby I love rock 'n roll so come and take your time and dance with me
9. What's a lyric that they'll quote in your eulogy?
Anything goes, but don't blink, you might miss 'Cause heaven ain't close in a place like this, I said, a-heaven ain't close in a place like this
10. And for our final question, let's say we believe in soulmates, what do you think their first impression of meeting you will be?
You're a faggy little leather boy with a smaller piece of stick. You're a lashing, smashing hunk of man; your sweat shines sweet and strong. Your organs working perfectly, but there's a part that's not screwed on.

How I Found Livingstone
Tumblr media
by Henry Morton Stanley
This is not a book I would ordinarily have been interested in.  I stumbled across it at the local library online and it piqued my interest, so I checked it out.  However, after 30 pages, I realized that it suffered from 'woke' editing, though the description gave no indication that it had been edited or abridged, and at over 500 pages, I hardly thought so.
Since I'd become interested in Stanley's journal, I searched for an UNedited Kindle edition at Amazon.com, found one for a mere 99 cents, and returned the 'woke' version to the library.  The unedited volume contained many pages of Stanley's descriptions and opinions of various peoples and cultures in and around the Middle East, especially those in Zanzibar, where he spent a great deal of time preparing for his journey.  I appreciated being able to read the journal as originally penned.
Why was Stanley engaged in this expedition?  He was a newspaper journalist who was contacted by the owner of the New York Tribune, who made one demand: FIND LIVINGSTONE!
The explorer had not been heard from for a number of years and was generally assumed to be dead.  If he discovered that Livingstone were indeed dead, Stanley was ordered to bring back as many proofs of his death as could be obtained.  If he were to find the man alive, he was to provide whatever supplies he needed.  He was given an unlimited expense account, asked to stop by the grand opening of the Suez Canal (That puts it in some perspective, doesn't it?!), make a number of other stops along the way, and then prepare an expedition to travel to Central Africa in search of Livingstone.
It is imperative that the reader remember that Stanley set out with his caravan in 1870, when Africa was largely unsettled and consisted of many small tribes ruled by 'sultans' and warlords, who demanded 'tribute' from anyone passing through their village, and that, for the most part, the journey had to be made on foot.
The journal includes Stanley's account of the time he spent with Dr. Livingstone, as well as Livingstone's account of his search for the source of the Nile.  I found the journal quite fascinating!  It is well worth your time.
SPOILER ALERT!
Excerpt from Chapter XI:
In the meantime, the head of the Expedition had halted, and the kirangozi was out of the ranks, holding his flag aloft, and Selim said to me, “I see the Doctor, sir.  Oh, what an old man!  He has got a white beard.”  And I – what would I not have given for a bit of friendly wilderness, where, unseen, I might vent my joy in some mad freak, such as idiotically biting my hand; turning a somersault, or slashing at trees in order to allay those exciting feelings that were well-nigh uncontrollable.  My heart beats fast, but I must not let my face betray my emotions, lest it shall detract from the dignity of a white man appearing under such extraordinary circumstances.
So I did that which I thought was most dignified.  I pushed back the crowds, and, passing from the rear, walked down a living avenue of people, until I came in front of the semicircle of Arabs, before which stood the “white man with the grey beard.”
As I advanced slowly towards him I noticed he was pale, that he looked wearied and wan, that he had grey whiskers and moustache, that he wore a bluish cloth cap with a faded gold band on a red ground round it, and that he had on a red-sleeved waistcoat, and a pair of grey tweed trousers.
I would have run to him, only I was a coward in the presence of such a mob – would have embraced him, but that I did not know how he would receive me; so I did what moral cowardice and false pride suggested was the best thing – walked deliberately to him, took off my had, and said:
“Dr. Livingstone, I presume?”
“Yes,” said he, with a kind, cordial smile, lifting his cap slightly.
I replaced my hat on my head, and he replaced his cap, and we both grasped hands.

Freddie’s poignant last deal
AMID fears that a new and even deadller AIDS virus, turbo-charged by tuberculosis, will sweep Britain from Africa, it has emerged that as he was dying, rock superstar Freddie Mercury made a last poignant art purchase.
His ultimate saleroom acquisition was a classic 19th century portrait — of a woman dying — from tuberculosis.
Now the AIDS charities to which Mercury has left a large slice of his estimated £28 million estate are likely to be boosted with the £116.000 canvas by Tissot, entitled Portrait of Mrs Kathleen Newton.
It would have had special meaning for the lead singer of Queen who died, shortly after admitting he had AIDS, at his £4 million Edwardian mansion in Kensington where he had amassed Britain's largest collection of Japanese fine art. Tissot (1836-1902), Frenchman who lived in London, specialised in flattering portraits of the well-heeled.
He was desperately in love with Mrs Kathleen Newton, who became his mistress, but who died two years after her portrait was finished. Mercury, who had an extensive collection of sentimental Victorian paintings, was determined to have it.
Born Frederick Balsara in Zanzibar, the son of a government accountant, he became interested in art at boarding school in Bombay. When his family came to England he attended Ealing College of Art, gaining a design diploma.
At Christie's fine art dealers they say of him: "Mr Mercury was a truly tasteful man", but then they sell pictures. And his artistic taste did occasionally border on the repugnant.
Who can forget the artistic way, at an end-of-tour banquet in New Orleans, in which he hid a nude model in a huge tray of liver?

Deciphering the Secrets to Cheap Car Rental in Zanzibar
Zanzibar's stunning beaches are well-known. It has a long history and a hospitable Swahili culture. This makes it the ideal location for a memorable vacation. Envision being free to leisurely stroll about this magnificent island, soaking in all the sights and sounds as you go. A rental automobile is a must to see all Zanzibar has to offer fully. Don't worry, I'll give you some advice to help you keep everything from being lost in the process.
Tumblr media
The Ultimate Guide to Securing the Best Car Hire in Zanzibar
Before you hop across the Zanzibar Channel, arm yourself with the knowledge that will save you money and grant you peace of mind during your travels. Here's a step-by-step guide to getting the best car hire deal in Zanzibar:
Understanding Zanzibar's Rental Market
Research Zanzibar's car rental market, which is rife with all the major international rental companies as well as a variety of local players.
The market's competitiveness is your advantage, so don't be afraid to haggle or seek out price matching guarantees.
Timing Your Rental
It's no secret that demand influences price, so timing is crucial.
Avoid peak seasons and holiday weekends if you can. If not, book well in advance to secure better prices.
Choosing the Right Vehicle
Size does matter – and not in the way you think. The bigger the car, the heftier the price tag, and Zanzibar's narrow, winding roads don't necessitate a four-wheel drive.
Look for fuel-efficient models to cut down on costs.
Insurance and Additional Costs
Read the fine print – insurance policies can make or break your rental deal, especially in a foreign country where regulations may differ.
Consider additional costs for GPS, child seats, or extra drivers; sometimes bundling these services can save you money.
Picking Up and Dropping Off
Opt for locations outside the airport for lower rental rates – just ensure you have a convenient, safe way to get there.
Be punctual. Late returns can lead to hefty late fees, while returning the car early might result in a reduced rental fee.
Top Money-Saving Hacks for Car Rentals
Besides the general guidelines, there are several insider tricks that budget-savvy travelers utilize for affordable car rentals. Here are a few hacks to shave off those extra dollars:
Leverage Loyalty
If you're a frequent renter with a particular company, member benefits and loyalty programs can yield significant discounts.
Go the Long Haul
Sometimes renting a car for a longer duration can be more cost-effective than a short-term rental. Even if you don't need it for the extra days, it's worth considering.
Prepay for Savings
Many rental companies offer discounted rates for prepayment. While this strategy limits your flexibility, the savings can be substantial.
Mastering the Art of Negotiation
Polite negotiation can work wonders, especially with local rental outfits.
With a tough but respectful approach, you might snag a deal better than what's advertised.
Safety and Regulations: What You Need to Know
Your safety and awareness of local regulations are non-negotiable. Before you set out on your Zanzibar road trip, familiarize yourself with the following:
Zanzibar Driving Regulations
The legal driving age in Zanzibar is 18, but most car rental companies require drivers to be at least 21 or 23 years old for insurance reasons.
Always carry your driver's license, passport, and rental agreement.
Safety in Zanzibar
While Zanzibar is relatively safe for tourists, driving comes with its own risks.
Practice cautious driving, especially in towns where pedestrians and motorbikes may share the road with you unexpectedly.
Navigating the Island
Road signs and conditions in Zanzibar can vary, and GPS signals might be unreliable.
A good old-fashioned map can be a lifesaver, so have one as a backup.
Conclusion!
Securing a cheap car rental in Zanzibar is not only about saving money; it's about freedom. The freedom to explore at your own leisure, the freedom to detour down that intriguing side road, and the freedom to create a journey that's uniquely yours. With a bit of planning and the confidence to navigate Zanzibar's rental scene, you're set to embark on an adventure that's not only budget-conscious but also unforgettable. Ready to steer your own Zanzibar escapade? Your chariot awaits.
