For about 3 years now, this blog has been a safe space to highlight the many BIPOC creators and fans in the self ship/yume community.

And for 2024, we hope to continue to make others feel welcome and safe.

I understand that some people yume/selfship as a hobby or for fun, but I realize that I've been doing it unconsciously for a really long time now so that's a weird revelation.. like I can see how some blogs aren't as serious (honestly the same goes for me sometimes) but there's always that part of me that gets frustrated when some people dismiss selfshipping to be something you "need to grow out of" or "simply being delulu".

You're fine as you are, we all have ways to deal with our hardships in life. Just because you do something that's considered 'silly' doesn't lessen how impactful it can be, especially on how it has been on your life.

I don't know about you, but gaming has been important to me in managing my depressive symptoms as another example of how these 'childish things' have helped. Yumeing/selfshipping takes care of my anxiety pretty well.

I'm pretty sure most of us know that our f/os aren't truly real, we don't want others reminding us. They may be 'just pixels' to others, but those feelings are truly real.

That said, just because your feelings are valid doesn't mean they're entirely rational. Please, please, please don't use this as an excuse to blow up at others because they're from outside of the community, understand that we have different perspectives and that if they have nothing good to say, then you shouldn't keep exchanging with them.

Selfshipping can be destructive.

This TikTok randomly showed up on my fyp but I am genuinely convinced this is like 80% of english yumejoshi, like actually they need mental help (at least this videos caption said that they are self aware it's harming them!)

So many selfshippers are so awful and almost like, harming themselves with the way they think they "own" fictional characters or that the fictional character belongs "only to them."

"doubles DNI!" "If you selfship with insert character then block me!" "I'm not sharing my yume!" "My f/o would NEVER do this thing or love someone else but me!" It's a fictional character, you need to stop taking it so seriously right now before you actually, genuinely delude yourself.

And if you are already delusional? (And I don't mean in the joking lighthearted way) You need to get professional help. Or at the very least you need to get off of social media for a while so you can work on yourself.

If you know a selfshipper who is actively letting their selfship/yumeship negatively affect them and their lives and their mental health, it's my suggestion that, as their friend, you need to talk to them before they hurt themselves more. Because they ARE hurting themselves.

Not to mention, the comments under the vid are so harrowing...

I hope that when the time comes and everyone here gets the help they need, they look back on this phase and appreciate the people who did their best to try to knock them out of these delusions. And I also hope anyone who indulges these types of delusions that their friends have feel remorse and shame for essentially aiding in a form of mental (sometimes physical!) self-harm.
