Dear You,
It’s weird. When I first met you, I felt nothing. I saw you and thought you were a nice guy, but felt nothing romantic towards you. And then suddenly, I did. We were talking about relationships, exes, sex, and all of that fun stuff. And when you said you liked someone close to you, I had hoped it was me. I quickly buried that feeling because I was with someone and I shouldn’t be feeling that. But then a little bit later you told me who you liked and I don’t know why it felt like a knife going through my heart, but it did. So I buried the feeling deeper down. I told myself I couldn’t love you and you would never feel the same. And I continued to love the guy I was with. I ignored the feeling for awhile when suddenly you were paying more attention to me and I saw it in your eyes. And the feeling came back, knocking the wind out of me. So I started asking other people to observe you, not telling them why. And they all came back with the same feedback. You liked me. And it killed me, because I was still with the guy. And it felt wrong. Like I was cheating. But I would never do that. So I asked for your opinion, without telling you that it was you. I told you that I had a feeling a guy liked me and I felt guilty. Guilty because I didn’t want to hurt him. And you told me if the guy loved me, he would want me to be happy. And then the walls came crashing down and I knew I liked you. Because at the same time you were telling me that you wanted me happy, the guy I was with was causing me to hate myself. I dyed my hair hoping one of you would hate it, preferably you. But you didn’t. You smiled and told me I looked amazing. You held me as I cried and broke down over everything because I felt so incredibly lost. I hated myself because I didn’t want anyone hurting. I wanted to die. But you held me and told me it would all be okay. And then you told me you liked me. And I couldn’t hide it or deny it anymore. So I told the other guy that I was confused and needed time. And he showed his true colors. You reacted perfectly. He yelled at me. Cussed me out. Tried guilt tripping me and manipulating me. But you told me to follow my heart. So I did. And although I am crying as I write this, I’m also smiling. Because you helped me realize he wasn’t my forever. He was just another lesson and another step to making myself a better person. C taught me that friends will hurt you as much as guys. L taught me that guys are liars. Other L taught me that I needed a guy that would care for me no matter what and that acted his age. And final L taught me that guys can hide their true selves for a long time and that I should have confidence because I am attractive. So maybe you’re another lesson, and that’s okay. Because that’s something else I’ve learned- life is full of lessons.
