I think i finally understand how the Distortion works. I mean, i don’t think it’s possible to ever fully understand it, and i don’t know the whole picture yet because i don’t know what Helen will be like, but i feel like i’ve just been granted a glimpse at the lovecraftian (as in ineffable) thing that is this being.
It’s not a person and a creature fighting inside one mind. There’s no Michael clawing himself to the surface to express his emotions and get his revenge.
Michael Shelley is dead. The Distortion became Michael. It sounds so simple, yet a least in my opinion it’s hard to fully understand.
I think what provides the best metaphor is a small thing the Distortion says after becoming Helen: "without a proper mind." The Distortion does not have its own mind. It’s only a what, but in order to really exist in this reality, it needs a who. It needs a body, but also a mind.
So if i understand this right, it’s like this: Michael Shelley is dead. His conciousness is not there anymore. And the Distortion got forced into that mind, an empty mind of a dead person. This doesn’t make it human, it’s still able to understand the impossible, it’s still the thing that was created to scare and kill. But in the mind it’s living in… the previous owner’s furniture is still there. It gets the dead person’s memories. It becomes Michael, in the sense that it has to be someone. Its existence got tied to being Michael, although Michael Shelley is dead.
When Michael got "emotional", that wasn’t Michael Shelley coming through. It was the Distortion grappling with the side effects of being someone - of living in a mind with all the memories and the human emotions that a human mind can’t fully turn off, even when the thing inhabiting it isn’t human at all.
The Distortion was Michael in the sense that it was thinking with Michael Shelley’s mind. When it became Helen, its consciousness, its being stayed the same, but it needed to adapt to this new mind. It could see clearer now, realizing that the windows of the previous house had been dirty, realizing that the wirings of the previous mind had driven it to do something that it actually didn’t want to do. The throat of the Spiral itself getting caught in the spiralling of its own, borrowed mind.

Hiii, I’m in love with your writing it’s a comfort for me atp. Could you please do grumpy reader where she doesn’t talk to others a lot. That makes Miguel look like an extrovert (even though we both know that’s not true 😭). Happy Easter 🐣 and or any holiday you celebrate.

Spider-People were supposed to be funny and outgoing. It was in their canon to have some resemblance to the original quippy and humorous Spider-Man. If not outgoing then at least a little endearing and sweet.
So the Spider Society is a little thrown off when you’re introduced to the team by Miguel. Both of your arms are crossed, your face blank and looking over other Spiders with neutrality.
“Here’s our new recruit. She’ll be working more with Margo and Lyla. Think of her as one of your superiors like myself or Jess or Peter B.” Miguel tilts his head at all the other Spiders. “That’s all. Dismissed.”
He turns to face back to his console, returning to work on new files Lyla had presented to him. Some Spiders stay to chat with you. They don’t notice the slight discomfort and annoyance in your face.
“Hey! My name is Peter M! I think we might be the same age!” One says, his mask squinting to look like he’s smiling.
“Have you gone on a mission yet? What Earth are you from?”
“Has Miguel explained The Canon to you yet? It’s a little overwhelming, I know.”
The commotion irks you a bit, the Spiders coming into your personal space so you shuffle away and your brows instinctively scrunch together. “No, I’m fine.” You mutter curtly. The others finally see the change in your demeanor and they awkwardly step back.
Miguel turns over to see the few Spiders around and barks at them to stop. “She’s still new to all this so don’t go around pestering her.”
They smile wearily up at him then at you, whose face is still contorted a bit in a way that looks like you’re obviously still being bothered.
They get the message and wave goodbye to you but not without feeling a chill down their spine at how cold you were. Maybe you were just shy. Everything is and always will be overwhelming around here with different variants of yourself. So, they believed in time you’d come around like the others.
You, in fact, did not come around. After weeks, months even, you still came in and left without a word. Get in and get out. You rarely engaged in conversation and if you were in a group, you’d keep to yourself. If someone tried to include you, you’d just say a few blunt words that didn’t move the conversation at all so there'd be an awkward standstill before moving on.
No matter what, no one knew anything else about you besides your name, you were a Spider-Woman and the name of your Earth.
Even the esteemed group of young SpiderLings couldn’t even get you to open up. Jess and Gwen had just come back from a mission, wanting to eat at the cafeteria before heading home. They had found seats beside Hobie and Pav who were just catching up together.
Pav had mentioned trying to talk to you once but his bright personality pushed you further and further away from him, your responses to his questions becoming more and more short and quick.
“I’ve never met such a complicated individual.” He pouts, crossing his arms on the table.
“Don’ bother me none. I don’ like someone tryin’ to bug me either.” Hobie scratches the back of his neck.
“Would’ve thought they opened up by now.” Gwen brushed her hair out her face. “It’s like pulling teeth with her.”
“She just seems kinda grumpy sometimes…” Pav sighs resting his head in his arms. “Even more than Miguel which feels wrong.”
“Yeah, at least Miguel snaps at you but she…kinda just sits there.” Gwen leans back with a weak smile. “Not really sure how to make conversation when she’s so quiet.”
“She just doesn’t feel like talking, guys. Go easy on her.” Jess rubs her temples.
Their conversation is cut short when Miguel walks through the cafeteria, documents in hand and with you in tow. Speak of the Devil.
“Jess, Gwen, I misremembered about giving you the reports of your last mission together. I also have the analysis for the next one on Earth—199B.” Miguel hands the reports to Jessica and she immediately skims through it. Gwen looks over her shoulder and gives you a smile.
“Hey, how’s it going?” She asks.
You respond with a shrug and a nod. “Good.”
Gwen’s smile wavers, laughing nervously as the awkward silence. She expected some sort of greeting back.
Miguel answers for you. “She’s been with me the whole day since Peter’s been busy at home.” Gwen looks to Miguel.
“And how about you, boss? Doin’—uh—doin’ good?”
Miguel sighs, crossing his arms. “Better now that Margo fixed what Hobie broke in the console room.”
Hobie tsks. “Did not. You’re jus’ blamin’ me ‘cause I’m the scapegoat around ‘ere. Tha’ it?”
Miguel pulls up camera footage from his Gizmo, of Hobie pulling apart different motherboards and CPUs from the server and tucking them away in his pocket. “Is this not you?!”
Hobie squints at the footage and shrugs. “AI has truly come a long way, mate. Bettah check tha’ out.”
Gwen, Pav and Jessica laugh at the scene, giggling at the sheer anger on Miguel’s face and Hobies indifference. You watch with a soft smile up at Miguel but nothing else.
Miguel feels your hand on his forearm and he looks down at you. You nod your head to the side, signaling it’s time to go. He looks at the time on his watch and collects himself.
“We’re gonna head out. Don’t bother us unless there’s an emergency and be alert for any sudden messages should I need to contact any of you for anomalies.” He turns and gives a small wave before leaving, you trailing behind him.
You don’t say much other than looking behind to give them a small nod and following beside Miguel.
The group watches as Miguel talks to you, relating information and talking your ear off about missions and the to-do for the day. You listen quietly, eyes held on his and nodding along.
They glance at each other and think they would’ve never seen a person more closed off than Miguel in their lifetime. Even less where it looks like he’s more talkative compared to you. What an odd pair. “I think she has opened up. Maybe just not with us.” Jess leans back with a smile.

NTMF College AU Chapter 22
Time for an old friend to show up 👀
-
There was a gentle, repetitive noise that was dragging her out of oblivion. Jillian didn't open her eyes, focusing on the sound. It wasn't a metronome like she'd first thought, it seemed softer, somehow. Maybe it was a grandfather clock? She could almost picture a pendulum swinging back and forth, keeping perfect time.
She didn't want to open her eyes to check if her imagination matched reality. If she kept them closed, maybe she could let the noise lull her back to sleep, instead of pulling her back to reality, to the horrible, horrible mess she'd made of everything again...
Again?
What a strange thought... I've never messed up anything this terribly before… have I?
She was becoming more alert without opening her eyes, and even as she tried to not think, perception was kicking in against her will. She was lying down on something soft, with her head resting on something just a little less soft. And there was something else she could feel...
Something was touching her hair—gently stroking it. The unfamiliar sensation wasn't alarming, somehow, it was… soothing.
This... doesn't feel like where I passed out… I can't—and sure don't want—to imagine Dean Burrows or even Fugo touching me like this, but they should have been the only other people around… There's no way the books would be this comfortable, either.
Oh, who cares.
I don't wanna think about it. Let me go back to sleep...
“I know you are resisting, but it is necessary that you awaken now, Jillian Littner.”
Huh...?
I don't know that voice...
No, that's not true, I do, I definitely know that voice...
but whose is it?
“You don't have to open your eyes… Perhaps it is better if you do not. However, I would like you to listen to me carefully.”
She kept her eyes closed. Even without the warning, she felt she wasn't ready to see whatever—no, whoever—it was she was dreaming about.
“You must forgive yourself for being deceived. Russell Burrows is a very skilled liar and manipulator. That never changes. It is not a personal failing on your part to fall for his lies.”
“That's not true," she mumbled. It felt like her hand was resting on the same object her head was.
Is this… a leg? It's weirdly comfortable...
"I did fail. I failed Noel, and now she's going to be hurt… I can't possibly have failed any worse than that…”
She got the impression the speaker shook his head. She was beginning to get a better sense of her position, she was lying on something like a sofa with her head resting in a very large man's lap.
She dully wondered why she wasn't panicking at the inexplicable situation. She didn't really like being touched—no, that wasn't true, she really enjoyed it, hugs, headpats, leaning on others… it was just that there were so few she felt safe enough to allow that close to her, and any contact from those outside that few was the exact opposite of enjoyable.
It must be a dream, but I feel way too alert for that… just kinda slow.
“It is impossible for you to think clearly when your anxiety is triggered. You should not despise yourself for having a sickness.”
She didn't know why she was responding so calmly, like this was someone she was used to confiding in. “I can't just blame that... if I could have stayed calm last night, I wouldn't have had an attack, I could have listened to Noel. Maybe I could have talked her out of staying near that devil... but I got too upset and I messed it all up!”
She sighed. "I feel like I've done this before, somehow... "
The hand—it was definitely a hand, although it felt so much larger than it should have been—stroked her hair a little more firmly, but still with exceptional gentleness. She could sense him shaking his head again. "Every time I meet you... You have the same heart. You feel so deeply—you love deeply, you fear deeply. You must not despise yourself for who you are... because of who you are, I have learned much... even changed into something more, and I do not regret this.”
Every time we meet...?
That's... such a weird thing to say...
“I'll try, but... [ ], how do I fix this? How do I help Noel?”
Wait, I don't know his name...
I can't even hear what I said, because I don't know it, but I know that I said it!
What's going on?
“Trust and rely on your friends. They need you. You, specifically, Jillian Littner, no one else. You are not replaceable. There are roles only you can fill. Only you.”
… how did he know that's what I'm so afraid of...? That Noel, with that devil, is... replacing me...
She was starting to feel more alert, her curiosity pushing through the strange, dreamy mood. “Who are you? How do you... know me? No... I should ask, how do I know you?”
She thought he chuckled. His fingers seemed to curl in the tips of her hair. “We have met many times before.”
"That's not really an answer..." Her eyes were beginning to flicker open. Something softly covered them.
“You need to wake up now, Jillian, truly awaken. You have the strength to follow your own path, the same way Noel does hers. You only need to believe in yourself.”
The calm tik-tok of the clock was suddenly off—it was slowing, like the ends were being pulled further apart somehow.
“Wait...” She tried to move, but it was as if she was made of lead. The hand gently patted her head again. It felt like her surroundings were melting. He was disappearing.
“I will see you again, Jillian Littner.”
“But I—please, [ ], come back, don't leave me again—you can't—!"
-
Jillian woke up with a jolt, gasping for air.
The room hadn't changed. She was still surrounded by ominous feeling books, and her head had been resting in the only empty spot on the desk.
She blinked, touching her face. It was wet.
I was crying...?
That dream... It felt so sad, somehow... But I feel even more devastated now that it's over!
She heard a clicking noise, and looked up, blinking again, to see the door open. Fugo burst into the room, looking deeply concerned.
“Shit, Jillian, are you okay? What the hell's goin on? I saw Dean Burrows leaving this room a while ago. Why'd he have your fuckin phone?"
Jillian stared at him, feeling as if he was speaking far too quickly for her to comprehend.
"When I was sure he was gone & I was able to sneak back, I realized you'd been locked in. You weren't answering me either… I was about ready to bur—uh, that's not important. But it just opened, suddenly, fuckin weirdest shit... Shit, say something, you're scarin' me here!”
She rubbed her eyes again, feeling like she was waking up a little more. “Fugo... I just... had the strangest dream...”
“Huh? I'm freakin' out, thinking he killed you or fed you to one of these books or something, and you were in here napping?” Fugo looked more than a little irritated at that.
Jillian shook her head, touching it. “I... sorry, I still feel a little woozy...”
Fugo walked around the desk, offering her a hand to help her up. She took it as she stood, then blinked in confusion—her other arm was clutching the blue and white book to herself.
I guess I caught it...? Was this why I had such a weird dream?
But it doesn't feel hostile, not like the other ones do…
She winced as Fugo gave her a gentle forehead flick. He didn't seem to notice the book. “Hey. You with me yet?"
"Um... I think so..."
His eyes searched her face. A little gentler, he asked, "Jillian, what happened? Did the Dean... do something weird to you? Did he hurt you?”
The Dean... hurt...
The memory of her conversation shocked her out of her fog. “Ah, Fugo—we need to go help Noel! She was right—the devil isn't the real danger, or at least not the most pressing one! Dean Burrows is in on this plot, and while he might not kill her he definitely is going to hurt her and he's going to do it now!”
“Okay, where?” Fugo was already walking out the door—pulling her alongside him, as if he didn't quite believe she was going to follow him on her own.
“The Gorge Trail—I told Noel to take it. Because he told me to tell her, I just didn't realize—how—how long was I out?”
“I went to meet Oscar about half an hour ago. I guess Burrows came in pretty soon after that if you had a long conversation and texted Noel, because I saw him leaving about ten minutes ago. I was trying to get the door open as soon as I was sure he was gone. So I guess just that long?” They were headed out to the parking lot. It was still foggy, just a tiny bit less so than before, but it looked darker. There was a soft rumble.
A thunderstorm, now?
“Oh... we need to hurry, but maybe we can still make it—can your bike—“
“Os took his bike back... he did leave the campus cart, though. Ugh, that's not gonna look cool at all... Dunno how good it's gonna be on the trail but we're gonna find out!” Fugo finally let go of her arm, giving her a very gentle push towards the vehicle's passenger seat, and hopped into the cart's driver side as she climbed on board. He twisted the key and floored it towards the trail.

Everyone has their opinion about which Emily relationship is more meaningful™️ to her and I think it changes during the show. At first, she was reluctant about getting to close to Garcia and JJ even tho they were much nicer to her than everyone else early on because she never had real female friendships before and Matthew and Claude were her only real friends so she stays closer to Reid and Morgan. But a little before JJ has to leave the BAU they were always together during cases, and sharing rooms, and being each other go-to at the office and then JJ has to leave and Emily feels empty and doesn’t know how to maintain that bond without work to justify and then after Doyle Emily feels like the team isn’t the same with her because of trust issues and JJ is the only one that still is the same and after Paris JJ means SO MUCH to her and she’s the only thing that makes her feel like herself and she’s the only connection to her older life. And when she comes back is very clear how much closer to JJ she is comparing to everyone else but after a while she feels TOO MUCH and tries to mend her other friendships like Reid, Morgan and Garcia and tries to distance herself from JJ. And then the whole bank mess happens and the wedding happens and the house structure happens and she doesn’t feel part of anything anymore specially because her tether to everything (JJ) has other things to worry about and she leaves. And the times she comes visit is visible that JJ still is that person™️ to her considering the whole has a nightmare that JJ dies and it’s all her fault and coming back because JJ is in danger. Then after she comes back from London JJ is still the same with her even after all the distance that she put between them so they kinda falls back into how they used to be but she doesn’t want to become too much like before so she gets closer to Garcia and Spencer instead. And we see how in later seasons Penelope is more of Emily’s person because of that, and Spencer is more of Emily’s connection to herself. Then all that stuff happens off-screen and now on Evolution she doesn’t have nobody anymore.
I really love this analysis! I think it's true of long time friendships that you get closer and farther over time. Friend groups are even more complicated because you have your relationship to everyone and also their relationship to others.
I think Bailey was starting to be Emily's somebody, but I really hope she gets a person in the next season. Everyone else has someone else (Rossi is alone, but grieving)

Love. Such a little word with such a strong meaning, but different meanings at the same time. “love makes you do crazy things”, a common phrase I have heard throughout my life. It’s true, you find yourself doing things you would never imagine and love is the culprit for it. It’s quite scary if you think about it, to be completely honest it makes people crazy. I think its easy to love some things, but I think the hardest thing to love is someone else. It takes effort and time and nurturing to have a good kind of love. If you think about it, love is kind of like a plant, once its dying, its hard to grow it back. Love fades, it comes and go’s. Some is temporary and some is forever. I think the most important love is for yourself, if you don’t love yourself you rely on others to do it for you which could result in a toxic love. I find it very hard to love someone if you cannot love yourself in the slightest. My mind becomes twisted and confused when love is brought up, it adds in so many emotions that tie together with love. I think this small paragraph maybe as confusing as love itself. There's so many thoughts and ideas of love, from the feeling to the chemicals released in the brain to chasing it like your life depends on it. I suppose afterall, loves does make you do crazy things.
Tumblr media
2018 . i made this in 2018 when i was falling in love. a stupid little drug caught in your head which sends little codes through your body, giving you butterflies and heart palpitations and sweaty palms and shallow breaths. which turns into arguments about sleeping on the wrong side of the bed or which person left the light on when we went out for the day. it turns into leaving angrily because the wrong word was said. it turns all those butterflies into knots when you say i love you and don't receive it back. it turns into sleepless nights and chest pains and your breath caught in your throat, but not in a good way. "love makes you do crazy things". it's true, but my god, people need to love more. not just people, either. they need to love the smell of fresh rain on hot concrete, the smell of walking into your favorite coffee shop. the way your dog shakes their whole body when you say hello from being gone. love is complicated, hard, simple, heartache, pain, happiness, and so much more. but at the end of the day everybody craves the feeling of being loved.
2022 , it's now 2022. the last paragraph was probably the middle of 2020. i still stand by the whole "love makes you so crazy things". like staying where you know it's going to hurt you. taking people who meant a lot to you out of your life due to toxic love. and losing people who meant the world to you for a little love bug. stupid little chemical. i wish i felt less of it. i don't think i am meant to love the way i love people. i think i was made to take hurtful love and give happy love. show people true love and appreciation. i get the sweaty palms, heart palpitations, but not because im excited and nervous. but because i put myself in situations that i know i won't get myself out of. i tell myself i can make it better and it won't be bad forever. that they just need the good love , not the hurtful love. that i can give them that good, wanna lay in a cloud, dance in the rain, smile at the world kinda love. i read too many books that give me the wrong idea of love. it's all fictional anyways.
i stand with my statement. i normally won't write about my standpoints on love for about a year. sometimes 2 from the looks. but it's changed. love still hurts and still makes you do crazy things. it makes you give space to the people you love so you don't hurt them. it causes hurt. but it doesn't mean it's bad love. it means it's growing love sometimes. it's not all fictional, not at all. hallmark moments happen in real life. but so does heartbreak too. and heartbreak is good sometimes. i love hard, and it'll be appreciated. it is appreciated , and god that makes me feel so good. the sweaty palms and butterflies aren't scary feelings. it's being scared of the unknown. it's the worry that fills your body and mind to the brim due to previous lovers who non consentedly caressed your young mind of lies and false realities. real love hurts. and hurt people, hurt people. but god when real love hurts good, it's the most beautiful and heartbreaking love ever seen. it's funny to sit here and see how my view of love never really changed. heartbroken love is the best love. and i stand by that statement more than ever now.

if fans wanted to include peach in stuff they write, would that be okay? and how would they write peach's personality? aside from "FIGHT ME" anyway, i think that much is a given lol. i only really write the anime characters 'cause that's what i know, but it sounds like it'd be kinda fun to try making a version of ash that fits into this blog's universe! nerf'd Obviously, but i think she'd probably appreciate how hands-on he gets when training his pokemon!
Ok, I get a lot of these messages, and I often hear folks wanting to throw peach into their stories and comics and writings, and I will always simply ask that if it’s published online publicly, to be linked to it so I can snoop and enjoy the content too. If someone asks about her in your work, let them know about the blog I guess? But literally I love that people take this stuff, these characters and stories, and make new stuff with it. No ones making money off my work here? So where’s the issue? Go for it buddy, knock yourself out, I’m all for it.
For you, and all the others out there who want to add peach, and other characters to your world building, I will give you a detailed rundown of the main lot, and how they behave, what they do, how they function. You can use that, use bits, or use none of it, I do not mind at all. If you’re creating something, you’re in control, not me.
So, peach doesn’t actually fight people as much as you’d think. She’s very aware most cannot and do not want to do that, and so she likes to keep to herself with regards to that aspect of her life, she doesn’t ask to spar with people, or even bring it up at all, but people ask her all the time, even if they clearly would lose or become hurt should she miscalculate during the fight. She looks at people like they usually create problems, and often has a somewhat reserved nature to other humans. You have to work quite hard to get anything more than formalities out of her. She will dead-pan handle people with blunt and very to-the-point statements, aid whenever possible, but very quickly get back to handling the Pokemon she so carefully tends. Her focus is clear, she’s all about hard work, her very small select family, and the Pokemon.
Her brutal, loud and brash personality only comes out with friends, family, difficult humans, OR any Pokemon. She will joke and laugh and play with Pokemon, but clam up around humans, maintaining tight body language and generally will be a little cold by regular standards. She does however have some weaknesses in this emotionless shield she puts up. When peach was young she was always angry, which swung so fast to sadness, back and forth. Her teenage years it just got worse and worse, it was crippling at points. She is to this day, full of fire and rage, even sadness, but now she has learnt to control it, to use it. When she sees that in others, it’s familiar, and she is pushed to drop the front, and be very real with the person. Underdogs I suppose, people who get bad reps, but deserve the same as everyone else. She can’t ignore it.
Once you start to pry open her personality, you’ll find she’s a lot more laid back and fun than originally appeared, you just have to work hard to find that side of her. She will meme reference, can’t dance to save her life, loves her coffee, and can be caught in quiet contemplation while gardening. This hobby is her calmest, and often is why she can stay so level headed when her quiet rage boils up again. Without time outside she will become grouchy, a little snippy, and lethargic. Will not go in the ocean for any reason other than life or death, is fine with ponds and rivers, or water at wading height. Likes the rain.
With regards to her training others, they usually have to tolerate her somewhat strict nature. She is a little....unforgiving, holds a grudge if you make a lot of mistakes, and has no tolerance for ignorance in the age of information that we all live in. In previous posts I’ve mentioned she’s only recently selected two students, after many years of testing kids who want to learn from her. Hundred tried out, only two have ever been approved. How she teaches is very fast paced, be prepared to get some scrapes and bruises, she will test your physical and emotional tolerances with intense tasks, carefully watching students like a hawk. Bad posture in your stance? She’ll be the first to tell you to sort it out. Not hearing your Pokemon partner? Right, now you spend the day without using words trying to communicate, let’s see how you like not being listened to.
This is a woman who has spent her life saying very little, and watching everything, she watches Pokemon and can see an issue from a mile off, and in battles, her observations are why she can react fast, and chose effective strategy to avoid damage and achieve results. Don’t let her body fool you, her strongest asset is analysing, watching, planning. Those skills have over the years transferred to people too. As a student, mistakes don’t go unnoticed with this professor.
Her methods are harsh but fair, and should you prove yourself, she will protect you with her life.
Because of her disinterest in kids and lots of noise, she does pass the training of students on to the other staff members whenever possible. Grey takes on the lions share of battle lessons, he is far calmer, more open and friendly, with patience for people, and an empathy that peach sometimes struggles to have. When you go through a lot of harsh training, and difficult events, it’s hard to change how you feel or think, with peach, well, she’s been through it. Most do not come out the other end in one piece, but she did, and it made her strong. You may think I mean strong like buff and big, and yeah sure she is, but I mean it mentally more than anything. Peach will not quit. She has learnt to destroy the boundaries that stop people getting hurt, gone is the fear that freezes you in your tracks, that feeling that you’ll pass out if you go one more step. She’s learnt to ignore it.
This means she’s a little forgetful at how it is to be normal, to be vulnerable and soft and squishy like students so usually are.
She has her issues, but for the most part, visitors get a laugh, a smile, a calm assertive confidence, and facts. She will indulge those who have genuine interest, or show a connection with nature, an understanding of the balance that needs to be struck for everyone to live well together.
Despite her many flaws, she’s fiercely protective, and will go above and beyond to defend the island, it’s staff, the Pokemon and the visitors. Injustice is her biggest gripe, along with littering, and she doesn’t stand by quietly if something happens that seems unfair.
You will not see her without Valka, her vulpix, close by. That Pokemon doesn’t like to be touched by strangers, at all, and will run the second someone comes at her with that intent. Peach will scold you for pushing yourself onto her, should you persistently try to get close to pet Val. They are in sync, if peach is sad, Val is sad, if Val is stressed, peach is stressed, and so on. They are inherently connected, it’s just been that long, the psychic bridge between them has been built, and reinforced over the years.
The only other Pokemon who follows her so endlessly is Booker, a teddiursa who’s pretty rough looking. He quietly trots behind, grouchy and stoic, they fight closely together a lot. He lost his mom a long time ago to poachers, and peach took him in, and changed her whole life for him. Not many people know, but Booker was the reason she left the rangers, changed career, and got so strong. Will tolerate people petting him but isn’t keen at all, grumbles a lot and tries to move away.
You may also need to know about the others, for the sake of writing, she here a few more bits that may be important to you, or others wanting to do this.
Grey is very tall, very burly, composed, tells bad dad jokes, is a bit of a goof if allowed to be. If he sees a pun, he’ll say it. Can’t help himself. Very nice guy to work with, good at keeping people calm and grounded. Pokemon are drawn to him like a moth to a flame, he gives off warm energy, and has inhuman amounts of patience. If you wrong his family however, he will snap back.
He grew up in the city, loves to swim and hike and cycle, can snowboard, is really sporty. A total brain box with held items, and boosting stats. He will explore many paths, to make sure visitors and students get the information they need, in a way that can be remembered and retained for later. Is a huge guy, but will get on the floor to play with a tiny Pokemon. Treats big “meaner” looking species like babies, very good with all pokemon.
His free time is spent either tinkering, swimming, or trimming his bonsai trees. This guy stares at screens a lot, so appreciates time away from them. Peach built him his own little greenhouse for his trees and tools, which he keeps clean and loves dearly.
His methods as a teacher are built around fun and games, he makes hard work easier to do by distracting trainers from the difficult bits, and focusing in on something more interesting or compelling.
His most commonly seen Pokemon would be a houndoom, Saxon, old battle veteran, retired now to herding and being a good boy. Very gentle, loves a pet.
Pari, now a fully fledged nurse, often oversees the labs front desk and pokecentre features, such as healing pokemon, and informing trainers who come to visit. Her skills with eggs and hatchlings is high, she’s great with younger Pokemon, and hands out good advice to trainers a lot. She’s not a fighter, never was, but can find any file, any study, any book, and any refrence you may need. A true bookworm, loves her romance novels, chat shows and upbeat celebrity gossip mags. Will cry at a lot of stuff, be it sad or happy.
She’s got a seriously upbeat personality, but if caught off guard or shocked, she gets a little flustered. Too much chaos will overwhelm her, but usually she’s on top of things. The years spent on the island have made her better at maintaining composure in emergencies. With lots of siblings, she’s very competent with others, and has a good ability to disarm cagey people with her jolly nature. Because of this, she can sometimes gain information from trainers that some of the more harsh professors may not have access to. Charming is a word for it.
Her partners are an eevee, and a happiny. They are quite sweet and well adjusted, the eevee gets a bit bouncy if you get it too excited.

My Kind of Human
Tumblr media
Ramshackle stayed silent throughout the night, the moon and stars shining light into each room.
All except one.
I swear on my askbox that I am working on requests but this idea popped into my head and now it won’t leave and people always tell me to find a niche and I think my niche is angsty smut. And in this niche I will dwell ò uó. Aside from that, I’m very asexual so if my sexy scenes are bad you are more than welcome to roast me.   Reader is [G/N]  Warnings: Lemon soda (smut), possessive Malleus, bareback, dub-con and our good ol’ dragon boy just putting you under a spell so he can have you all to himself.
“Do you have someone special, Tsunotarou?”
Malleus stops walking as he looks down at your frame, your eyes staring up at the sky while you both are sitting down at the step of Ramshackle.
“Special?”
“Yeah.” you sigh as your eyes remain fixed on the stars, “Someone special. Like someone you wouldn’t trade for the world.”
His first thought is his Grandmother. She had taken over the role of ruler of the Valley of Thorns and had let him grow in a somewhat normal fae childhood. He had heard many stories of children being forced to take the throne early on in their life and how damaging that decision turned out to be not just for the country but for the child as well. He was glad that his Grandmother remained steadfast and strong. There was also Lillia. Lillia, despite his constant antics, was always a guiding hand for Malleus in things he did not understand. Even now, Lillia would lend an ear whenever Malleus had a question about social interaction. Whether he would get a straight answer or a joke, that was just up to the older fae.
“I have some people I consider that important.” Malleus looks up with you, “How about you, child of man?”
Your eyes remained fixed on the stars.
You nod, “I do.”
He laughs, “Is it your first year friends? I am sure Sebek would be glad to hear you say that.”
“He would yell in my face before telling me he felt the same, you know how he is.”
You two share a giggle before letting silence take over once again. “But it isn’t like that. The way I love Ace, Deuce, Jack, Epel and Sebek is different from what I’m talking about.”
Malleus watches your eyes shine under the bright stars, some of them being reflected on your irises as you tilt your head and lean back to let your legs stretch out.
“I’m talking about a person who you can’t live without, you know?”
“I’m afraid I might need a bit more of an explanation.”
You shrug, “I can’t fully explain it without sounding crazy but…imagine you one day find yourself completely alone. There is not one single person who understands what you are going through nor do they bother because they might believe that it is too hard to comprehend. You find yourself so alone that you start getting used to that loneliness.”
The way your eyes sadden are not lost on him, copying your movements and leaning back so that he can stretch out as well. With how you are both positioned, your fingers are almost brushing.
That wouldn’t do.
You continue talking, not paying attention to how Malleus places his hand over yours.
“But one day someone comes in and changes everything.”
He lets himself feel the fluttering in his heart, having lost himself to this feeling a long time ago. The way his heart would beat faster when you smiled, when you laughed, how you would approach him without fear. From what Lillia had said, this was something akin to falling in love with someone. When asked who it was he was falling in love with, Malleus simply shook his head and avoided answering the question.
What he felt for you was not for anyone else to know.
“They just ‘get’ you.” you smile and close your eyes, “Everything thought you have, they somehow complete it. Long distances become shorter when you are with them and for a brief moment time just...stops. You find yourself yearning for this person and wonder if they think about you the same way, to the point of losing sleep. You want to be to them what they are to you.”
You tilt your head towards him.
“Am I making any sense?”
Malleus nods and sits up, “More than enough.”
He stares into your eyes, your color reflected back on his as he instinctively leans closer towards you. You were building up to something, he could feel it. The feelings you described, they were identical to the ones he felt for you. It hadn’t been that long since you came into his life but he couldn’t see himself not popping by Ramshackle dorm every night to share these talks with you. Malleus wasn’t necessarily that attached to you when you two first talked but the more you sought him out the more he opened himself up for you.
Your conversations, your little adventures, your attention.
It was all slowly consuming him and making him realize that you were no longer a human but his human.
The question slipped out of him faster than he could think of it.
“Who do you speak so highly of?”
You turn to look at him, your body leaning towards him as well that he allowed himself to dwell in his imagination for a few seconds. His own body covering yours as you wrapped your arms around him, pulling him closer and asking him to take you with him the moment he graduated from this place.
“It’s kinda what I wanted to talk about with you tonight.” you sit up with him and grin excitedly, “Remember what I told you about Crowley trying to find a way home for me?”
He would answer your plea, taking your hand and kissing your palm before his lips made his way up your arm.
“Well...he finally found it.”
Malleus is pulled out his fantasy as he blinks twice, your smile shining just as bright as the stars above despite the awful revelation you had just given him.
“I’m going home, Malleus.”
You used his name. A part of him hoped that you would use his name when you two were in a much different and more favorable situation but you had just used his name to stab him in the heart with your wonderful news.
“I was just saying all this because--I can’t believe I’m telling you this--before I came here I had these feelings about this person. They are everything to me but I was almost afraid to admit it? And this distance just...it just solidified what I felt for them.”
He has to stop himself from reaching out to you and grabbing your wrist, thinking that the moment you got too far he would lose you forever.
“Crowley says that I am going to be able to go back next week. So I’m just preparing myself to tell them everything I felt.” You turn to him and hold out your hand to help him stand up, one of the many things that Malleus loved that you did solely because he had an excuse to touch you.
“I think a part of me just wanted to share this with you because I trust you. We’ve talked like this for so long that I think I just...tell you everything.” you smile sheepishly, “Which I hope you don’t mind, I did just spring it out of nowhere.”
You were leaving him.
“Tsunotarou?”
You were leaving him for someone else.
“Malleus?”
You were leaving and he couldn’t stop it. You had these sorts of feelings for someone else and he couldn’t stop it. You opened him up and you were going to close him as if you were able to make the decision without any repercussions. You weren’t theirs, you also weren’t yours, you were his---
A hand shakes him from his thoughts as he focuses in on your eyes, his heart melting when he sees panic in them.
“What’s wrong? Are you okay? What did I do?”
He shakes his head and smiles as he takes your hand so you both could stand up.
“Nothing.” Malleus pats your head, your size difference being made apparent to him even more than before, “I guess this is goodbye?”
“No need to make it dramatic.” you lean into his touch, like a pet to their owner, “I’ll find some way for us to keep in contact. And if there isn’t--well then I will make one.”
“I feel the same.”
Malleus looks down and digs into his school jacket, smiling when you make a comment about this being a goodbye present. He puts a finger to his lips before pulling out a spool of thread, the top of the spool decorated with a sharp needle. “Give me your hand, child of man.”
You nod and smile, doing as he told. “Is this going to be a blood pact of sorts? You don’t seem like the type, Tsunatarou~”
He chuckles, “It is just a customary practice in the Valley of Thorns. Something that I believe will make our connection unbreakable.”
Malleus brings your finger closer, the tip touching the spool as he expertly pricked your finger. You hiss for a second before smiling as you wave your finger. “Strangest friendship ritual ever, but it is very you so I will gladly partake in it…”
A feeling of vertigo overtakes you as you lose your footing, your eyes closing as you feel yourself fall to the ground but finding yourself pressed against something warm.
“...Mal--?”
You try to look up at him but gasp softly when your legs are swept under you, Malleus picking you up bridal style as you feel your eyelids growing heavier. Almost as if it was a chore to keep them open.
“A true unbreakable connection.”
Malleus opens the door to Ramshackle quickly, looking behind to see if he would need to take care of any pests that had made their way to the old dorm. Without any in sight, he closed the door, the lights on Ramshackle’s doorstep snuffing themselves out as the smoke drifted up into the starry sky.
-------------
“Fgnaaa~!” Grimm yawns as he floats towards Ramshackle, yawning as he rubbed at his tired eyelids.
Hands roaming up and down your torso, slowly undoing buttons as your hands rested on his wrists. Sloppy kisses shared between two amateurs but in between said kiss there seemed to be a forced passion, a need for the person above you to communicate how much he had wanted you. He had been caught stealing some food from Monstro Lounge and Azul had put him to work just like before, it had been a redo of what happened in Octavinelle all over again.
Wanted wasn’t the right word, needed was the way to describe how he was feeling. His mouth traveled from your lips to your neck, your mouth opening up to let out a soft moan but being quieted down by his fingers slipping inside so they could rub against your tongue. You could barely keep your eyes open but with how you were looking at him, it almost made him believe that you were the one that initiated this.
“Hnng?” he looks to see the lights in Ramshackle are all off, his head tilting in curiosity. When did you start going to sleep this early?
Legs parted, eyes looking away, your chest rising up and down as his fingers pressed deep inside of you to rub and prod at whatever he found. He used his other hand to turn your face, your eyes meeting as he whispers a couple of words. A veil is cast over your eyes as he feels you open up like a flower for him. Hips grinding down to meet his fingers, arms opening to welcome him closer, his name falling from your lips making him eager to finally show you how he felt about you.
Grimm opens the door and yawns as he makes his way to the kitchen, licking his lips as he imagined what you had cooked for dinner that night. However, the only thing he finds are three deluxe tuna cans and a note that certainly wasn’t in your handwriting.
Your hold on him is tight, legs wrapped around his waist as he sinks deeper and deeper into you. Hands in his hair, going up his horns and then traveling down as he bit at the juncture between your neck and your shoulder blade in order to keep himself from pushing all the way inside. But your warmth was calling out to him, inviting him to push deeper and deeper until all you could feel was him and him alone.
Even with the magic affecting your brain.
“Don’t feel so good. Going to sleep early.” Grimm sits down on the counter and frowns as he opens one of the cans and starts munching down.
“Say you love me…”
You gasp as you feel him push your whole body up with his first thrust, the bed creaking in protest in your ears but no sound being heard outside of your door.
Were you sick? Grimm takes a giant bite and hums as he thinks. With him being this tired he would immediately go up to the room you two shared together and cuddle himself on your chest but if you were sick…
“I love you! I love you I love you--Malleus--!”
The sounds were all mixing together. Your moans, his groans, the protests from the bed and the wet slaps of his body meeting yours over and over again. You were so full, all the way up to  your throat that the words he so desperately wanted to hear were spilling out despite you not remembering thinking of them. You were thinking of nothing. Every time you tried to think about what you were doing a sharp pain would stop you, instead keeping you attentive to the pleasure the soon to be ruler of the Valley of Thorns was giving you.
“You are mine, child of man. Body and soul...all of them mine!”
“Silly human. Getting sick like that. They should be taking care of themselves.” Grimm shakes his head as he keeps on eating the tasty treats you had left behind. If you had left something this good for him, he guessed he could forgive you.
Your toes curled as you felt something warm gush inside, lips covering your own and drinking up all the sounds you were making. He whispered something into your ear but you couldn’t quite make out what he said. Something about heirs and a kingdom. Was he telling you a story? He pulled away to look into your eyes, your brain moving your hands so that they would cup his cheek. Your comfort seemed to stir something inside him as he brought you closer, your arms now wrapped around him as you rested your forehead on his shoulder.
Ramshackle stayed silent throughout the night, the moon and stars shining light into each room.
All except one.

You push open the front door with a heavy sigh, setting the paper grocery bags down on the counter then resting a hand on your growing belly.
There’s a tiny flutter under your hand and you can’t help yourself from smiling.
The smile vanishes, however, when a hand grabs at your shoulder and forces you to turn around.
“Where the Hell were you?” Steve’s angry voice demands.
You look up at him in shock and confusion, looking over at the groceries.
“I-I just went to the store.”
He shakes his head, grabbing your face with one hand and stepping closer. You take a step back with each one he takes towards you, and soon enough he’s got you pinned against the wall.
His grip on your face tightens and you wince, fear overwhelming your body, making your heart race.
“Bucky said he saw you talking to someone. A man. Who was he?”
You shake your head, tears welling up in your eyes.
“H-He was just asking me about my pregnancy. When I'm due, if I know what I’m having.”
It’s nothing but the truth.
“I give you freedom and this is what you do? You go and flirt with other guys? You’re my property. Don’t forget that.”
Your tears fall down your cheeks and into his hand, but he doesn't let go. Even as your chest heaves and sobs bubble out of you, he stays glaring at you.
“Please, Steve, stop. Y-You’re hurting me!”
His jaw flexes and he slowly lets go, only to cage you against the wall, slamming his fist against it in the process.
Your heart hammers in your chest, terror gripping you and freezing you in place as you remember what he did to Nat and her baby.
“I-I came home, didn’t I? I could’ve asked for help! Could’ve said something, but I didn’t. I’m here, again, even though I could’ve run away. I’m here. You have me! You have me.”
You slide down the wall, knees drawn up to your chest as you sob, the reality of your words and the fear doing a number on your emotions.
Steve’s anger slowly melts away, replaced with concern as he sees nothing but terror on your face.
“I-I didn’t mean to yell, honey. It’s okay, shh, come here.”
You don’t fight him as he pulls you into his arms and brings you upstairs into your bedroom, sitting you gently on the bed and pushing your hair away from your face.
“I didn’t mean to hurt you, sweetheart I just... You gotta understand how nervous it makes me when you leave the house like that.”
You sniffle then slowly look up at him, your eyes bloodshot and tear-filled.
“Then why give me the freedom to leave?”
Your voice cracks and it makes his heart hurt.
“I... I want to trust you. That’s why.”
You take a few deep breaths, your eyes focused on your trembling hands as your heart starts to slow back to its normal rhythm.
“Ever since that night when Nat and Buck came over you’ve... you’ve been off. I’m worried about you, honey. I just wanna make sure that everything’s okay.”
He wants to know what Nat told you. What she said to have you acting like this.
Your eyes meet his, wet and full of fear as you whisper three words.
“Is it true?”
He has an idea what you’re referring to, and his heart picks up speed.
“Did...did you do it?”
He swallows hard and avoids your eyes, but that’s answer enough.
Some strange mixture of a gasp and a sob bubbles out of you, and you bring your hands up to cover your face as your shoulders start shaking again.
“I didn’t... I guess I did.” You sniffle and look up at him through your tears.
“If you want me to trust you... if you ever want any hope at having some semblance of normalcy, you’re gonna need to elaborate. I’m trying to play your little game but I just... I’m scared you’re gonna kill my baby too. That you’re gonna hurt Sarah.”
He shakes his head immediately, grabbing your hands and holding them softly in his.
“I would never hurt Sarah, or our new baby, okay? Natasha... she was becoming a liability. That being said, I didn’t go into it with the intention of hurting her baby but... I knew it could be a consequence.”
You wait for him to continue, your heart pounding loudly in your ears.
“When you burned the book... that wasn’t the only copy. Fury made sure there was at least one more, in case we ever needed it. Had his own group working on it, creating a new version of it. Natasha became a test subject long before I met you. Before I... took you.”
He drops his eyes and huffs out a sigh.
“We didn’t need to wipe her memory, we just... needed a way to make her more complacent. To make her realize that she can’t go off on her own and keep secrets like that. Especially when they involve you.”
Your chest heaves as you glare at him, your anger growing by the second.
“Did you kill her baby?”
The words are harsh like the crack of a whip, and he has to stop himself from flinching.
“It wasn’t my intention... but it was worth it.”
You choke on another sob, yanking your hands out of his grip.
“I didn’t know what the tea would do to her baby. It was just a mild sedative so we could get her to the facility and do the procedure. Get her to tell us where you were, where Sarah was. But then she... she started bleeding. I didn’t... I thought maybe it was just a side effect but then the doctors told us... (Y/n), you’ve gotta believe me. You need to know that I didn’t mean to...” he trails off and shakes his head, thinking about the niece or nephew that he could’ve had.
The son or daughter that he stripped Bucky of. The pain he inflicted upon Natasha. But he has you, so in the end, it was worth it.
You slowly look up at him, shaking your head.
“Why? You’ve done nothing but lie to me and hurt me. Why should I believe a word you’re saying?”
He swallows hard, reaching for your hand again only for you to yank it away once more.
“You want the truth? Fine. You’re not the first person that we’ve... taken. And I doubt you’ll be the last. Bucky... he had someone. Someone to help him control the soldier. But she turned out to be worse than him. We had to terminate her because she became a liability.”
He looks down at his hands, remembering how innocent she seemed. And then she snapped. Tried killing Nat and Bucky. Turned the redhead against them until Fury stepped in.
“Nat didn’t... agree with what we did. So we changed her mind.”
Your brows draw together in confusion.
He can’t mean... can he?
As if sensing your confusion, he elaborates.
“We didn’t do exactly the same procedure. But it... its function was the same. We needed her to forget certain things. To be our friend again while still remembering other things about the situation. And it worked. All I wanted to do this time was open her up to us again. Tell me where you and Sarah were. I never meant to hurt her baby.”
You shake your head furiously, tears dripping down your cheeks. “You’re a murderer. A disgusting monster. I hate you.” Your words are venomous and acidic, and Steve almost flinches at them, shaking his head.
“That’s not true, (Y/n). I love you.”
You laugh, the sound manic and for a moment Steve’s concerned.
“This isn’t love, Steve, this is obsession! It’s unhealthy! You’ve got me trapped here against my will! Y-You’ve hurt me and raped me and now I’m supposed to pretend everything’s okay? I’m supposed to play the good little housewife while you go around kidnapping and killing women? Killing other people’s children?! No!”
You stand up and try to move past him but he grabs hold of your forearm, rising to his feet with you.
“You’re not going anywhere.” His eyes are fiery as he glares at you, but you’re not nearly as afraid as you once were. No. You’re just angry.
You glare at him, rage burning through your body as you yank free from his grip and walk out of the room.
“You leave this house and I won’t hesitate to drag your ass right back!” He shouts.
But you don’t plan on leaving.
Oh no.
Why does he deserve his happy ending so much more than everyone else?
You turn to face him once you reach the top of the stairs, your heart in your throat at what you’re about to do. The damage it could cause.
At least it’ll get your point across.
“Why do you deserve a baby so much more than Natasha?” He furrows his brows, trying to figure out what your next move is going to be.
“I’ve given my life over and over for this stupid pathetic world. I’ve sacrificed my happiness time and time again. Do I not deserve something good?”
You take a deep breath and shrug.
“Maybe you do. But not like this.”
With that, you turn around and let yourself fall down the stairs.
Steve tries to grab you, he really does, but he’s just not fast enough.
He watches you fall, tumble down the stairs then lay still at the bottom, and for a moment all he can do is stare.
Memories fill his mind. Of you falling down the stairs. Then bleeding. So much blood. And your baby... gone.
He nearly falls down the stairs himself in his haste to get to you, two fingers pressing first to your pulse, then his hand is pressed against your belly, trying desperately to feel for the fluttering kicks you told him about.
It takes a minute, maybe two, and then he feels a small press against his hand.
He lets out a breath of relief then grabs his phone, calling the doctor.
~*~
When the doctor assures him that both you and the baby are okay, he’s relieved. But that only lasts for a moment before anger takes hold, powerful and persistent.
You can feel the anger rolling off of him when you wake up, and for a moment you’re afraid.
But hopefully, you got your point across.
He doesn’t deserve another baby. Not if that’s what he wants. He’s a terrible human being. And bringing a baby into the world with him as the father should be a crime.
“Where’s Sarah?” You ask, hoping to keep him as calm as possible.
“She’s having a sleepover with Morgan over at Tony and Pepper’s.”
You nod, your stomach dropping as you realize you’re alone in the house with him and he’s beyond pissed off.
Your mind races back to all the times he’s punished you in the past, and you almost throw up with the anxiety coursing through your veins.
“You ever do anything like that again and I swear I’ll make you regret it. I won’t kill you, no. My baby needs his mommy, but I’ll make you hurt. You’re lucky I’m not doing anything to you now.”
You swallow hard and look away from him in disgust, only for him to grab your jaw and force you to look at him.
“You need to stop acting out like this. I told you what happened to the last asset who became a liability. Fury shot her point-blank. A clean shot between her pretty eyes. Then he left her to bleed out on the bedroom floor while he fixed Nat’s memory. S’why she’s even still here and with Bucky. If she remembered what he did to that poor girl... she’d have killed him herself by now. But he needs to outlet to keep the soldier at bay. And he deserves her. Deserves some happiness in his fucked up life.”
You shake your head, disagreeing strongly with every word he’s spoken.
They're monsters. Natasha less so. A victim, like you, maybe. But the two soldiers? Monsters. Monsters who don’t deserve any happiness. They deserve nothing but a slow painful death and an eternity in the fiery pits of Hell.
“I told you, (Y/n), I didn’t mean to hurt her baby. If I’d wanted to, I’d be rubbing it in her face more. Showing off your pregnancy more. And if you think I’m gonna hurt our baby, you’re wrong. I would never hurt my babies. It kills me that you think I’d ever do something like that.”
“Can you blame me? You’ve already killed at least one baby.”
A muscle in his jaw ticks and you regret your words.
“You know what? I think you really need a reminder of your place, sweetheart. You’re mine. Maybe not my wife, yet, but soon enough. Until then, you need to know that you belong to me.”
His grip on your face is painful, but you don’t make a single sound.
No, he’s not going to win.
He doesn’t want to hurt the baby or cause unnecessary strain, so he can’t have you on your stomach like he usually would.
So he makes the most of you lying on your back.
He grabs your wrists and binds them above your head, hooking them to the ring on the headboard despite your struggles.
“Steve, no! Please! I-I... Don’t hurt me, please!”
He cocks his head to the side, watching you wriggle and strain.
“You’re mine, (Y/n). You belong to me. There’s no one in this entire world who’ll help you. You’re my property. It’s time you realized that.”
A sick smile spreads across his face as he remembers what made you obedient last time.
“You know, I think I know exactly what you need.”
He climbs off the bed and drops to his knees, rooting under it until he finds his special black box.
You wriggle away furiously, trying to break free before he can hurt you, but deep down you know it’s all for not.
You squeeze your eyes shut as he sits back down on the bed, worming his way between your thighs and flipping your dress up over your extended stomach.
“Please don't,” you whimper uselessly.
He strokes your inner thighs gently, then leans down to spit on your centre.
You flinch away, tears leaking from your eyes as you realize what he’s going to do.
“Please don’t,” you repeat, only to be silenced by him pushing something far too big inside of you.
You cry out, your back arching and sending shoots of pain up to your scalp. The added weight of your baby makes everything ten times more painful, and you can't stop yourself from sobbing as he forces every last inch of the thick dildo into your unprepared cunt.
It burns. Fire spreads from between your legs up your spine and the tears don’t stop.
“Stop! Please! I’ll be good!” He knows you won’t. Or, he just doesn't believe you. You want the pain to stop but you’re not actually willing to change your behaviour for it. Not yet. But you will.
When the dildo is finally fully inside you, he climbs off the bed and shoves the box back underneath it. He adjusts his pants then walks to the door, pausing to look at your trembling figure on the bed.
Your shoulders shake with sobs, and he feels pride swell inside of him.
Good. Now you’ll finally learn.
“You’re gonna stay here until you learn your place. I don’t care how long it takes. When you’re ready to apologize and be a good girl, then we’ll talk. But until then...” He shuts off the light and pulls the door closed behind him, leaving you alone, in pain, and in the dark.
Memories of the last time this happened stab at your brain, and you quickly start hyperventilating.
What’s worse than that, though, is the tiny voice in your head telling you to get off your back. That it’s not good for the baby if you stay like this.
But no matter how much you scream or cry for him, Steve doesn’t come to the door once.
~*~
He leaves you there for hours, or maybe days. It’s so hard to tell.
The room is soundproof, so no one can hear your cries and you can’t hear anything outside.
Even if people could hear you, it doesn’t really matter now.
You’ve been on your back for so long that you’re starting to get dizzy.
During your first pregnancy, you learned only that it’s bad for the baby to sleep on your back. You didn’t think you’d be feeling the effects of it, too.
But here you are, covered in a thin sheen of sweat, mind spinning and lungs struggling to pull in enough air to satisfy you.
It must’ve been several hours ago that Steve left if you’re feeling such strong effects of it. You’re not sure what the technical term is, but you know that you probably don’t have much time left. Your baby has even less.
Your heart aches. Each beat makes sadness bloom in your soul and you can’t stop it.
New tears fall down your cheeks, and all you want is to reach down and caress your belly, apologize to the life growing inside of you.
Apologize for hurting them, for who their father is. For the life you’re bringing them into.
Nobody deserves that.
But now... now you might not have to worry.
Every passing second sends the walls around you spinning faster and faster and faster until all you can do is let your eyes fall closed.
Sleeping will probably make it better anyway, right?
As the darkness creeps up, seeps into your limbs and chases the pain away, you pray.
You’ve never really prayed much before, but you do today.
You send a prayer to any and all Gods, the old ones and the new, and you ask for forgiveness.
You pray for the safety of your unborn child, and for that of Sarah.
A deep part of your brain knows that you may never open your eyes, and you want your daughter to know that you love her. That she means the world to you and you’ll do all that you can to protect her.
Thinking about Sarah brings a wave of strength seemingly out of nowhere, and for a moment you wonder if the Gods heard you. If this is them sending their aid.
You take a few deep breaths, building up as much strength as you can, and try your luck one last time.
“I’m sorry.”
Your voice isn’t nearly as loud as it should be, and the room is so thickly padded that there’s no way he can hear you.
Hopelessness floods your body and you fall into it.
Your sorrow distracts you from the darkness until it takes hold of you and pulls you down, away from the world of pain that you’ve been trapped in.
And you feel peace.

Main Masterlist ⭐️
Tumblr media
Returning back home was a change of pace Javier wasn't looking forward to in the slightest. He knew people would be watching the news, keeping up with the latest arrests, even his father would occasionally check up on him passing someone's best regards for his safety. It was kind of them yet the nonstop questions and meddling was becoming more to handle. Since his return, he's made it a priority to check on his dad first and foremost, help around his ranch whenever he needed it.
That's when word really got around that the famous DEA agent that helped bring down Escobar was in town. They all wanted to know what he was like and how it all really went down.
Javier gave them polite but short responses, avoiding any if all conversations that gave any glimpse to prompting that topic. He wanted nothing to do with that life he had in Colombia anymore, leaving it behind was almost as hard as when he left the love of his life.
Being back home, he thought for a moment that maybe there could be a chance for a new long overdue beginning, something else to give his life actual purpose.
Which is why when he saw you, the one person that he had left behind and wanted nothing more than to hear their voice again leave the bookstore, he must've guessed there could be a chance for that purpose.
Tumblr media
In those months leading up his departure you were supportive, encouraging, and most of all understanding when Javier said he needed take this job in Colombia.
As much as it pained you bidding farewell to the man you'd started falling in love, it didnt become apparent until those finals months. The prospect of his departure only heightened your feelings and you knew he had to take this opportunity. You weren't going to be the reason he stayed behind and watch him live with regret.
You loved him too much to ever think of being the reason you held him back from achieving his great potential.
During that time you put up a front, shut down any feelings you ever had for the sake of his happiness. Javier could always pick up on your emotions, like you were a poem that had to be analyzed by him only.
As you both packed up his belongings into boxes out of his apartment, went shopping together to always remind him to make sure he gets breezy shirts to feel refreshed in Colombia's weather, sneaking in his luggage small packets of Duvalín candy for the plane ride, everything, but mention how much you loved him.
Hearing him one night explain after walking you home that you should move into his apartment back home, "I won't be back here anymore and it's paid off already. Someone should use it, like you.
"You practically live here anyway."
It was true, you both did spend a lot of time together. You accepted his offer knowing his apartment was in walking distance to everything. What your heart couldn't accept were his words, "I won't be back here anymore." That was the final nail in the coffin giving up any intentions of ever telling him.
The adoration you had for Javier to be great was stronger than anything, he deserved this chance. Hearing the passion in his voice day by day was just as equally exciting for you.
Of course, it didnt stop you from crying every once in a while. Not because he'd never know you loved him that was only part of the reason, but because you knew you'd be losing your best friend.
You forced yourself to never give him any sort of grief, instead you focused all your energy into making those final few months last.
Helping him pack shirts to take, ranging from pastels to dark collared shirts and patterned designs. Your favorite had to be the white buttoned down collar shirt that had two pockets, one on each side.
Two pockets, that he said trying them on, "That goofy picture of you is going right in here, staying with me always." He promised after that to call you as much as possible that your phone bill would skyrocket.
Javier loved you with every fiber in his body, you were that someone he could count on for everything and never once had to explain things because you understood. It was an unspoken connection that could be seen closely enough just by look. At parties, if someone was being nosey he'd walk over to gossip with you warning you, and he'd point to the person pouting his lips with a head nod. Or give a slight side eye to each other at something funny that only you both would get.
You always had way of understanding him, so when took the job you'd been obviously the first person Javier called.
Yet realizing you weren't going to be there anymore filled him with dread, it didn't quite hit him until the final week. Finishing a card game as a reward from moving everything out, he started collecting the cards in his hand, "Next week we should try that new restaurant that sells Honduran pupusas, what do you think?"
Speaking low, "Javier..."
He looked up at your silence giving him a moment to catch up, his lips tightened hiding under his mustache making you smile. Both of you feeling that insidious bittersweet feeling surging out of each of you and finding residence in the air around you both.
No more nightly walks, drinks at the bar, family cook outs, and each other.
That was it.
Javier repeated his promise from that night again, that he'd never forget you and always call you to update on what he's been up to. You heard the sincerity in his voice, the longing in his eyes that sparked the small burnout flame in your heart fueling it's hope that maybe he loved you back.
So he kept his promise.
Until it became a hinder in his work.
Tumblr media
It started out with weekly calls, Javier's first night was spent talking for hours on end about how it's like, describing how beautiful the city is at night, how badly he wanted you to see it, even mentioning how you should visit him one day.
Taking you by surprise he told you after the call ends to check your room, he'd left you something behind.
Javier wasn't the best at expressing his emotions, but he did take notice of yours. Going to your room you saw on your bed Javier had left you the CD of your favorite artist's newest album with packets of your favorite candy to last you the whole month.
It was his way of saying, I'll miss you too.
You both called each other like clockwork, even listening to some songs on the CD together on speaker.
It was every week, becoming an unspoken commitment you both had.
Although, the longer he stayed trying to fight the drug war the fewer calls you’d start to receive.
Whenever he had the chance to call, it’d wound up being late at night for him and morning for you. You didn't mind it at first, beggers can't be choosers and he was genuinely busy as were you.
Javier would always give you time to talk when you both did call, he longed to hear your voice speak so passionately about what you've been up to. As well as, bringing up his favorite memories of you, like the time you fell of the chair wheezing trying to get a hold on his arms. Or when you'd tease him about his mustache, his pride and joy was your #1 target never failing to make him laugh.
Tumblr media
Gradually, the conversations started to become more about you, old fun memories, and rarely about him or his work.
To anyone else, it was a one sided conversation, but to you both it was all you could manage. Further darkening that cloud reminding you, this isn't the same anymore.
Javier didn't want to talk about his work at all, it'd break his heart to know that you might despise him for what he's done, or who he's become. The things he's had to sacrifice foolishly to get one step ahead in the game only to be pushed back 10 steps.
On the days he felt too exhausted coming to his empty apartment you were on his mind. He hoped you were happy and feeling the love you so deserved, he wished it was him.
With enough liquid courage he’d still call half hoping you wouldn't answer and the other begging to hear you. Javier's voice was distant from yours judging by the tone of his voice you started to believe you were no longer a present thought to him. It began to feel as if you were a chore for him. A chore that Javier didn't want to end, but you were worthy of better. You should be someone's first thought in the morning-not work, a treasure to look forward to coming home after a long day-not a dreading feeling.
He wasn't worthy of you anymore and he knew this.
Perhaps that was Javier's way of loving you, finally letting you go to achieve your own greatness and happiness like you once did for him.
Tumblr media
One random night, near the end of your strung out friendship, while having dinner with some colleagues Javier called dawning a desolate tone you'd never heard before. It stunned you with worry for him and heart aching for you to see his name on your phone.
He spoke quietly needing to hear your voice again urging you to tell him what you're doing right now ignoring your confusion to know what you've been up to, and if you'd remembered him or ever thought of him. Your heart hammered out of your chest excusing yourself from dinner trying to determine if the masked pain in his voice is real or was it your emotions again. It sounded as if he'd been crying, it was hoarse and exhausted rambling on and on about how much he missed you. You missed him more than anything, but you kept that to yourself.
Trying to ask again if he was okay you heard a woman’s voice beckoning for Javier in the background. He had to cough loud enough to block out the sound, praying you didn't hear it, praying that you would never think these women ever meant something to him like you did.
But you did hear it, clear as day.
Deceiving yourself into believing it didn't break your heart, you continued the conversation in the bathroom trying to be there for him and never once bringing it up.
You missed him just as much as you cursed him for being the reason you couldn't move on. All these failed relationships ended with one person in mind, Javi. The longing you clung onto was a fools errand, all the feelings you had left for Javier was slipping too far for you to mend and ever face.
You never blamed him for your heartache, you weren’t together and there was no need to burden him with silly emotions. Javier had desires, it was understandable and you had your fair share of conquests, although you never let him hear them.
Javier had to fuck the memory of you out of him every night, losing himself in every moan and pretty face. It was becoming his coping mechanism after letting you go, that he'd developed a reputation at work. The sex was fucking perfect for him, but they were nothing compared to the pull you had on his heart.
At times he'd pick up a quick fuck that had your features, a similar melody to your voice that didn't even come close, but worked to pretend. Anything that helped him hold on to the memory of you.
Further into the investigation, when the stakes were too high for any distractions and the tension in Colombia was high, any intentions of calling was done for, taking along with it your relationship with Javier.
The vow to never forget had become an afterthought, a myth too crazy to believe that it ever happened.
On occasion in your house, you'd watch the situation over there unfold on TV here and there, it was your one and only primary source to recall who Javier Peña. This became your weekly updates replacing his once loving phone calls.
Your partner, like everyone else in town, was enthralled with the case that when they’d speak about the hometown American DEA agent in Colombia you needed to excuse yourself unable to hear about him.
You had moved out of the apartment Javier had given you, unable to bear any longer being surrounded by his smell, the countless laughs you both shared. You'd given the keys to Javier's dad, Chucho, never letting Javier know cause there wasn't longer any need to update him.
At times out with friends, you'd hear about it in passing when they'd gossip about Javier to you, asking whatever happened to him, and how he was to which you'd respond, "I don't know anymore, but I hope he's well."
Your heart had become numb speaking of him that all those feelings, you so deeply felt once had become silenced.
Tumblr media
Javier would never forget the last time he spoke to you.
You'd called one last time at the regular time you used to do.
It was odd when he picked up the phone because you didn't expect to hear his voice, intentionally you were ready to leave a voice message instead. He'd barely let the second dial tone start as soon as he saw your name show up.
Hearing your voice was a breath of fresh air that somehow took him away from the death surrounding him, it reminded him of all the good. Especially the good that's been going on with you, how happy you'd been with your new job, and updating him on his dad. Javier picked up the somber tone in your voice that he hated knowing it cause of him. That night he stayed with you on call until you were ready to hang up, answering all your questions, even letting you know what he's been doing recently.
You figured one last call wouldn't hurt to say goodbye, properly.
With a broken heart you sighed, "Till next time I see you, goodnight Javi."
Your goodbye left Javier holding the phone long after you've hung up remembering how much has changed and the one devoted promise was assuredly broken.
Javier knew in your voice that it was your choice to let go and he respected it and never called you again. It's like you both had vanished from each other’s lives having never existed in the first place.
Tumblr media
When he spotted you again it was safe to say that the profound love he has for you, hit him like a ton of bricks.
You were a sight to behold, laughing carrying a little girl on your back walking out of a bookstore across the street. Javier had to step aside from blocking the exit of the grocery store to keep his watchful on you.
It was mesmerizing the way he could so clearly hear your laugh, recalling to when he'd be the reason to make you cry from joy and not from any heartbreak.
That smile was radiating out of you, he had to smile to himself. You were happy looking up to the person walking behind you was carrying books in their hand.
Javier never knew what it was like for you to hear about his special informants because you never asked and he would never put you in that situation. He knows it's selfish of him to feel bitter, but he can't help it.
He desperately wanted to come up to you, pull you into his arms, ask you when'd you cut your hair, if you ever got that promotion you worked so hard for, if you still liked that artist that you both would dance to at cookouts, and when did you have a child.
He wanted to ask you anything and everything all at the same time just to hear you talk to him again.
Feeling a bit of courage he starts taking a few steps forward coming to a stop when you turned around completely. You were speaking directly to the person behind you.
He felt his heart pound thinking you might've seen him gawking at you like a creep. Nothing could move Javier at that moment, not even a stampede his eyes were glued to you, pulling him closer telling him to move his fucking legs.
The person took the little girl off your back allowing you to reach into your bag, he loved the way you've subtly changed over the years and still remained the same.
The person stepped into the car, but you lingered there for a moment behind truck of the car looking down at something in your hands.
Javier couldn’t find the will to move, it was like his body froze in shock when you turned around stopping him with your look. His voice was silent when his mind kept racing saying, sorry for being a complete asshole, breaking his promise, apologizing for never telling you that you were it for him and to wait.
People were passing by him starting to take notice of who he was, everyone, but you.
The one person he craved to earn their attention from.
Javier watched you enter your car driving away until you were out of sight, he felt like a coward standing there. Putting his sunglasses on he took the bags out of the cart heading back to his car.
This was the real walk of shame.
Entering the kitchen to his house, he noticed the red blinking notification of a missed call. Thinking it was probably his father calling to ask him if he can come over to help him fix something, he played the voice message.
One simple voice message that had the power to kickstart the burned out flame, provided him with hope.
And it was your voice.
He smiled rolling his eyes hearing you joke, “Nice mustache, Vicente Fernández. How long did it take you to grow all that?”

back to you
Tumblr media
dabi x reader
summary: when things don’t go well in your relationship, you find it best to end it...
a/n: it has a good ending I promise. I did kinda hurt myself writing this I don't even know why. but sad dabi really does make me feel things.
———————————————————————
your hands were in your hair, doing your best to not pull every strand out of your scalp. your eyes were closed and you were doing your best to calm yourself down, counting down from ten.
“dabi, we have had this conversation for over a hundred times. you can’t control me. and why can’t you just trust me for once?”, you said, finally  opening your eyes and looking at dabi.
“fine”, he said clenching his jaw. “go. let all of those people see you. go. you know what, don’t come back tonight will you?”
“stop overreacting”, you said, breathing out heavily. “I'm sick and tired of you constantly telling me what to do. I'm your partner, not your child. I know my limits and I know what to look out for. and who are you to tell me to not come back tonight? this isn’t just your place. we live here with a bunch of losers, what makes you think you’re more special than them? what makes you think you overpower them? what makes you think you have more to say than us?”
he took a few steps closer to you and looked down at you with a wrinkled nose. “I just don’t like my partner going out where there are people that will look at them. I don’t like how you can’t keep your mouth shut around people and let them flirt with you. I can’t stand you going to places and not knowing your limit, when you claim you do.”
“just because I let people talk to me, doesn’t mean I'm letting them flirt with me?”, you confusedly said. “oh I apologize dabi. I apologize that I do not prefer to burn people to the ground when they give you a genuine smile. I apologize that I couldn’t become as great as you”, you sarcastically said while throwing your hands in the air and then dropping them. “do you hear how stupid you sound? we have this discussion almost every day, but I can’t seem to get some senses into you. I'm tired of this, dabi. I'm tired of having to explain myself every day when I know I'm not doing anything wrong. I can’t talk to anyone before I have you breathing against my neck telling me to stay away from that person.”
“sweetheart, dollface, sugar”, he said with gritted teeth, taking steps closer to you and holding on of your hand and placing it over his heart. “don’t make this harder for the both of us and just don’t go outside will you?”
you pulled your arm away from his grip. “not this time dabi. I'm sick of this. sick of you wanting to control everything I do. you wanting to have a dominant role in this relationship. why is that even needed? why can’t you treat me as an equal? can’t you for once just let me live? I'm tired, I'm tired of telling myself that you’ll change when you don’t”, you said, finally showing the frustration on your face.
“and you think I'm having fun?” he asked, raising his eyebrows. “you think I enjoy seeing you having fun with someone else? it hurts you just as much as it does me doll”, he said, raising his voice. “it’s also hard for me to see you flirting back with other people! know your fucking limits”, he said placing his hand on your chin and pulling it up slightly.
“don’t act like you are right here”, you sat, pulling your chin away from his grip and taking a step back. “for once. for fucking once accept that you can’t control everything I do and that you can’t overpower me. respect goes both ways, but I'm not seeing any on your accord.”
“now you’re just talking bullshit”, he said in a loud voice, laughing to shake off his frustration. “what does this even mean?! what is it that you’re trying to accomplish here? what is it that you so desperately want, huh? attention from someone else? if you’re not even gonna listen to my feelings, how am I supposed to take yours in account? you only do as you please and where does that bring us, huh?! where the fuck-!”
“that maybe perhaps we’re not meant for each other”, you interrupted him. “that maybe we’re just not fit for each other.”
his face dropped and you saw every emotion pass on his face. he was confused. he was confused as to the words you had just dared to speak, something he didn’t even think about once. to him this was normal, to him this was behavior that should be present in a relationship. to him, fighting everyday seemed normal. but his motives for this relationship seemed to be totally different from yours.
“you must be kidding no”, you said with a distressed smile. “h-how can you just easily say something like that?”
“because you made sure I did. if you just for once tried to understand me, perhaps this wouldn’t have happened.”
he walked closer to you and held your shouders. “you’re kidding right?”
“i’m not, dabi. I'm being very much serious right now. how can I continue this when my feelings are being invalidated on a daily basis? how am I supposed to respect you further when you literally treat me like your pet?”, you said a brushing off his grip on your shoulder. “I can’t do this when all of this only brings me anxiety and constant stress?”
he looked at you, lost in another world progressing what you had just said. it surely couldn’t have been true, you were joking right? but the expression on your face made him his eyes go larger and his mouth almost hung open. “y-you can’t be serious”, he said with a smile, but that soon dropped when he shook your head.
“i’m not”, you said turning around and walking to the door.
you didn’t turn around to look back at him, and he made no attempt to stop you. perhaps he hadn’t even believe that you actually left. or maybe he was just waiting for you to finally leave him. maybe this was for the better you thought, but for dabi this was a whole different experience.
he was convinced you were coming back that night, he convinced himself that you would. so when you didn’t he totally lost it. the person that barely texted you had spammed you with messages and missed calls, leaving behind various emotions. he didn't know what he was feeling. this was all new to him.
dollface, you’re not serious right?
you’re coming back tonight right?
I'm sure you are...
you didn’t take me seriously, did you?
please come back.
please look at your messages.
it’s past midnight, please come back.
don’t scare me like this. just come back already.
please...
you looked at your phone, tapping the corners or your phone. you decided to not answer, but that left you in a weird state of mind. you didn’t know what you were feeling. were you happy? sad? relieved? more stressed? you didn’t even know. you felt numb.
you found your way to an old friend, asking if you could stay over until you figured out what you would do to survive. you locked your phone and threw it next to you on the bed. you allowed yourself to fall with your back on the mattress. you’d feel better in the morning, is what you tried to convince yourself. but would you really?
you woke up with a heavy headache. it was hard to even sit upright. but when you opened your eyes it was still dark. there was heavy rain outside and falling back asleep seemed like an impossible thing right now.
you tapped on your phone letting it light up.
3 a.m.
you sighed. what were you gonna do now? you felt too stressed to even close an eye. you didn’t know what you were supposed to do. you loved him and he probably loved you too, but this couldn’t go on forever.
you looked at your screen again, not missing all the messages he had left behind.
please I know I fucked up, but please just come back.
you can’t be doing this.
and many more messages like that had filled your phone. you frustratingly brushed your hand through your hair and sighed loudly. it felt wrong. it felt wrong to have left like that in the middle of an argument. but at the same time this had happened so many times that you couldn’t just do nothing.
you rose from your bed, still not answering any of his messages. your phone rung every five minutes, but you just didn’t pick it up. you walked to the kitchen and filled a glass with water only to leave it on the counter after seeing his new messages.
I really need you.
I don’t need anybody else.
just you. so please, please come back.
you blinked once, then twice and then many more times. dabi had really said he needed you. the independent guy, who would refuse help from anyone had said he needed you. you weren’t sure what to do. you paced around the kitchen, biting down on your nail. your phone made a sound again.
I just really... can’t live without you.
you sighed loudly and with a quick steps you walked to the door. you put on your shoes and ran out the door taking the keys with you. the rain splashed on your skin, clothes and hair, making you soaked in an instant as you ran down the street. but you didn’t care. the only thing that ran through your head was wanting to see dabi. wanting to see him share his feelings and wanting to see him need you.
even the bad memories had a good ending for you. every time you fought, you’d fix it together. so why couldn’t that be done now? why did you have to act so selfishly again? you knew you were partially right, but at the same time you knew this wasn’t right. all your memories with him flooded in your mind and it made you run faster.
your feet dragged you to the place you had thought he was, because you knew he wouldn’t be at the residence. he would be at the place that caused his trauma, but at the same time was his most visited place.
the forest were he had supposedly died. the forest where his dad had refused to come to. the forest with his last memories of home.
you stopped in track when you saw his figure. his back facing you and his head looking up. he was wearing a front zip hoodie with the cap over his head. allowing the droplets to hit his face. he had heard something so he turned around.
when he saw you standing there in the rain he took one step and reached out his hand, but stopped when you only stared at him. you were out of breath, breathing in and out heavily as your chest heaved.
you looked at him, seeing the sad expression on his face. you shook your head and started walking, but before you knew it you were running to him. you ran and when you reached him, you threw yourself on him, holding him like you never did before.
he was in shock, not being able to do anything, just allowing you to slowly pull him down for the hug. when you pulled away you held his face and searched it, but before he could say anything you crashed your lips against his, tasting the rain on them. it was still pouring and this might have been the closest thing to an actual romantic scene the two of you had.
your lips danced together and you melt in each others touch. he finally allowed himself to be embraced and snaked his arms around your back to deepen the kiss. he pushed you against him and moved his hands to your neck to pull you closer. your hands slid down and rested on his chest.
when he pulled away he looked you in your eyes. water droplets were falling on your face and he made an attempt to wipe them away though the rain hadn't stopped. you wanted to say something, but he shut you up by pulling you in once more and giving you a small, but soft kiss.
“i’m sorry”, he said, pulling you flush against him to hug you. “I'm sorry for always wanting to control you. I was just scared.”
you slid your arm around his waist and hugged him back. “scared of what?”
“of you leaving”, he whispered just loud enough to hear above the splashing raindrops. “I haven’t been open about my feelings. I just didn’t know how to. but I was raised with the thought of rejection and people leaving me behind. I wasn’t used to all of this. I wasn’t used to having all this affection, so I was scared you’d leave just like the rest.”
you tightened your grip on him. “I don’t have a reason to leave. I just need you to be open with me like just now. so we can work things out together”, you said, looking up so that you were facing him.
he looked down and a soft smile formed on his face. he kissed you again and again and again until completely devouring your lips on his, not giving you a chance to pull away. but that wasn’t needed. you had understood the whole situation and the both of you were able to figure it out together. many ways had opened for the two of you and the both of you have yet to learn so much about each other. but you were both willing to change yourself for each other. because even if things weren't always great, the two of you would find their ways back to each other.

“resentment”

Pairing: oikawa x fem!reader Genre: angst Summary: you used to love oikawa’s determination, his drive, his willingness to give his all and sacrifice everything to get the things he wants. now those are the same things that make you resent him. WC: 6,700 Warnings: lots of angst, explicit language, reader’s kinda petty but so is oikawa, relationship isn’t toxic or anything but it could def be better A/N: shoutout to @shadowkunoichi for this request! your ask gave me enough serotonin to last for the rest of the week <3 it’s also important to note that the moment i saw oikawa’s smug ass face on screen my brain and heart immediately went “this the one” so here’s some pain ft. my favorite setter -Dawn
Tumblr media
The first few times Oikawa cancels your dates for extended volleyball practice, you tell yourself it doesn’t bother you. You’re disappointed, of course –you barely see him enough as it is, despite living together for three months, despite dating for a total of eight– but it’s not the end of the world. It’s just another compromise you have to make, and it probably won’t be the last.
That’s what relationships are about, anyway, you remind yourself firmly, whenever the silence of your too-big for one person apartment starts to get to you. Compromise.
You’re no stranger to compromise, either. You can’t be, not when you’re dating a pro-athlete. You know better than anyone how talented Oikawa is, how admired. He’s worked so hard, and you’re so proud of him. You may not know much about sports, but you do know that your boyfriend has an amazing career ahead of him.
And while the selfish part of you would like to keep him all to yourself, you also know it won’t always be possible, and you tell yourself you’re okay with that. You love Oikawa, and you support every single one of his dreams, even if doing so means you have to eat dinner on your own sometimes.
It won’t always be this way, you tell yourself. It’s just for now. And it definitely doesn’t mean he loves you any less.
That’s what you tell yourself.
It helps that he’s always sorry about it. You hear it in his voice whenever he calls you to tell you he won’t be home until late, see it in the guilty way his eyes search for yours through the screen when he FaceTimes you to let you know you shouldn’t wait up for him. He’s even more torn up about it than you are most of the time, blowing your phone up with apologetic voice notes and text messages with too many emojis.

And when he does make it home that night with an apology on his lips, a bouquet of flowers, and a promise that he’ll make it up to you, it’s hard to do anything else besides forgive him. Because you know that no matter how crazy both of your schedules are, no matter how lonely you might feel without him at your side, he loves you more than anything, and you love him as much in return. And for a while, that’s enough.
Until it isn’t.
You’re thankful to have successfully made it through your first year of grad school with just a caffeine addiction and minor bags under your eyes, but not having to attend your classes or meet with your professors over the break means you’re at the apartment a lot more. You still have your job, but it’s becoming harder and harder to ignore Oikawa’s absence.
It’s not just dates he’s missing anymore. It’s family events, outings with your friends, getaway trips the two of you planned weeks in advance.
You know it’s not his fault. He has things he wants to accomplish, goals he set for himself long before he met you. The Olympics are coming up, and he needs to be ready. You can’t blame him for staying late to get in some extra practice, or for having to attend events with his teammates and his fans instead of you.
You can’t blame him for any of it, at least not without feeling selfish and unsupportive, and somehow that just makes it worse.
It takes you longer than you’d like to admit to build up the courage to talk to him about it. You almost don’t want to bring it up at all, but after weeks of missed dates and apology bouquets, of waking up without him and going to sleep before he gets home, you crumble. You don’t think you can keep grinning and bearing it anymore, not without starting to resent him.
You confront him while he’s sitting at the kitchen island in the middle of your shared apartment. It’s rare he doesn’t have a game on the weekend, even rarer he gets to spend the afternoon with you. It almost makes you reconsider –will this ruin your time together?– but you hold fast. You know that if you don’t bring it up now, then you probably never will, and you’re not sure you can take that much more silent heartache.
Oikawa, for his part, does well to listen as you speak. He watches you intently, pretty brown eyes soft and searching, as you tell him about how neglected you’re feeling, how lonely.
You know he’s not doing it on purpose. You know he’s meant every single one of his apologies, and that this is what you signed up for when you agreed to be in a relationship with him. And you love how driven he is, how determined he is to succeed.
You just...you miss him. That’s what it boils down to in the end: how much you miss him. You miss him now more than that time he left to spend a month back home in Japan while you stayed in Argentina, despite the fact that you’re in the same country this time, despite the fact that you share the same apartment. It shouldn’t be possible, but it’s true.
“I know your career is important, and I would never try to get in the way of that,” you tell him, quietly, tiredly. There’s an exhausted air around you he’s never seen before, the kind of whispered sadness that breaks his heart. “But sometimes, Tooru...sometimes it feels like I’m dating a ghost. And I’m not mad at you, or angry, I’m just...lonely.”
You finally look at him, and the emotion in his eyes startles you. He’s actually tearing up –“you’re such a crybaby,” you like to tease him when his eyes water during sad movies, but you always comfort him anyway– and it’s enough to make your eyes fill with tears, too. He looks so sad, so broken, like knowing he’s hurt you –even if it’s been completely unintentional– hurts him too.
He’s quick to stand and walk over to you, wrapping his arms around you tightly. You return the embrace, resting your head against his chest while one of his hands moves to cradle the back of your head.
“I’m so sorry,” he whispers into your hair, and you can tell by the way his voice shakes that he means it. “I know things have been crazy lately, but that’s no excuse for leaving you here alone. I never want you to feel like you’re anything besides the most important person in my life. I love you so much, and I promise I’m going to fix this. Things will get better, I swear.”
And in that moment, you believe him. You trust him, after all, and you know he doesn’t make promises he can’t keep. So you let him mumble reassurances into your hair, let him kiss your breath away and shower you in the affection you’ve been missing for far too long.
It’s so easy to get lost in it, lost in him. Too easy.
He’s always been like that; charismatic and witty, magnetic and charming. It doesn’t help that he’s totally gorgeous, too. You knew, from the moment you met him, that if you ever let yourself fall in love with him, you’d be in trouble. It’s why you never took any of his advances seriously, at least not in the beginning.
But he was able to chip at your resolve with every teasing smile and playful wink, every reverent touch and whispered words meant just for you. He let you get to know him; the real him, not that flippant and perfect pretty boy facade he presents to the rest of the world, and so of course you fell for him, because how could you not?
Oikawa is stubborn and prideful, exhausting and even sometimes petty, but he makes you feel like you’re the strongest person he knows. He looks at you like you’re the only one he’ll ever want to see. He makes you laugh and keeps you on your toes, and you know right away –before you moved in together, before you told him you loved him– that you will never love anyone the way you love him, because no one else will ever be able to compare.
That’s why it’s so easy for you to believe him now. Because you know he loves you and that you love him, and the two of you are determined to make this relationship work. So when he promises that things will change, that he’ll be more present from here on out, you believe him.
It’s the first promise he’s ever made to you that he doesn’t keep.
Tumblr media
For every event Oikawa does bother to make it to, he misses two more. Your parents, who adore him, wonder why they never see him anymore. Your friends start to ask if you even still have a boyfriend. You find yourself asking the very same thing.
You stop inviting him to events at your university and lunches with your friends. You don’t want to set yourself up for disappointment anymore, and you figure it’s easier to just save yourself from the inevitable. The apology gifts he gives you start to feel hollow, empty, just like your apartment. You stop opening them, letting them pile up in the corner of your living room. Eventually, he stops giving them to you.
You’re not sure if you’re thankful for that, or if it upsets you even more.
The Olympics get closer each day. Oikawa’s practices become more intense and even longer than they already were. There are so many things he needs to do now: games to play, meet and greets to attend. Sometimes if he’s out too late he just doesn’t come home at all. The team sets him up at a hotel, and he stays there for the night instead.
It gets harder to catch his scent on his pillow where it lays beside you in bed, untouched and forgotten. It should hurt you more, but it doesn’t.
There’s an event being held back in Japan, promising a night of drinking and dancing and schmoozing. All the investors and international players and coaches will be there, and you promised a while back to be Oikawa’s plus one.
The vindictive part of you wants to cancel on him, just so he knows how it feels, but you decide you can put your pettiness aside for a few nights if it means free booze and food and a comfortable stay at some ridiculously fancy hotel. You wonder if that’ll be enough to fill the hole he’s made in your heart.
Besides, you want to remind him that you’re the kind of person who keeps your word, even if he’s not.
The flight is long and exhausting. So is finding your hotel and forcing yourself to get dressed, but you get through it. Oikawa looks unfairly stunning in his suit, but you try not to notice. He arrives at the party with you on his arm, wearing a silky gown that matches his tie and jewelry that glitters whenever it catches the light.
You’ve barely talked to each other the whole way here, but at the party, amongst his teammates, old rivals, and friends, you’re the perfect couple. You smile, laugh, and dance exactly when you’re supposed to. You play your role so well that no one notices how numb you are, not even Oikawa, even though he’s supposed to know you better than anyone else.
Maybe that’s why you find yourself at the open bar. Oikawa’s off mingling with god knows who, swamped by dozens of people who are always seeking his favor, trapped in his orbit. They praise his hard work, his tenacity, his determination. Once upon a time, you would’ve done the same.
But things are different between you now. What used to be Oikawa’s endearing stubbornness is now an outright refusal to meet you halfway. His determination to be the best has become an inability to compromise; his passion has become obsession. It’s strange to think how all the things that used to make you love him now just make you resent him.
But the liquor here is free and flowing so you knock it back like water, and it’s almost enough to make you forget your heartbreak, your anger. Almost.
All the drinking eventually sends you to the bathroom. You touch up your makeup as best as you can and wash your hands with one of the several different soap options, exiting the bathroom noticeably drunker than you were when you went in.
You’re off-balance enough that when you run into what feels like a brick wall but is actually just a tall, broad-shouldered man, you stumble and nearly fall over. He reacts quicker than you do, catching your elbow and steadying you back on your feet.
He asks you if you’re all right and you reassure him that you are. You swear you’ve seen his face before, but you’re too tipsy right now to bother to remember where.
“I appreciate the help,” you say sincerely, patting his shoulder. “But I promise I’m okay. Thank you again, really.”
He gives you a look like he doesn’t believe you, and he’s proven right approximately five seconds later, when you turn on your heel to leave and nearly fall over again. Once more, he’s there to catch you.
You try to convince him that you’re okay; you’re just a little bit tipsy from all the champagne earlier, but he guides you to one of the stupid velvet couches in the hallway and makes you sit down. He tells you to stay there and wait for him, and you want to protest but he’s already gone before you can make any real sort of argument.
When he returns, it’s with a bottle of water, which you sheepishly accept. He stays with you as you drink it, and your vision and stomach start to settle. You thank him again for all his help. He tells you it’s no big deal, and when he introduces himself as Ushijima Wakatoshi, you laugh so hard you almost spit water all over yourself.
Ushijima raises an eyebrow at you. “Is there something about my name that amuses you?”
“No, no, nothing like that.” It takes more effort than it should, but you’re thankfully able to force yourself to stop laughing. Talk about ironic encounters. “It’s just– I’ve heard of you before.”
“Are you a fan of volleyball?”
You resist the urge to snort, sending him an amused smile instead. “Something like that.”
The two of you chat for a little while, and it’s a surprisingly pleasant conversation. You quite like his company, and you appreciate how he’s willing to keep an eye on you solely out of the kindness of his heart, just to make sure you’re really okay. It’s hardly necessary anymore –the water’s doing a great job at sobering you up– but it’s a nice distraction from the reason you started drinking in the first place.
Or it was, until you start to hear that very same reason calling your name from somewhere down the hall. His voice gets closer and closer, and you shut your eyes, bracing yourself.
“What the hell?”
You open your eyes and suddenly Oikawa is in front of you, eyebrows drawn together and lips pulled into a deep frown. You can only imagine what you look like to him right now, low-eyed and tipsy and sitting on a couch next to his oldest rival.
You can already see the anger in his eyes, the suspicion. He’s jealous, and it’s absolutely ridiculous because he has no right to be. Not after ignoring you for so long. Not after reminding you over and over again that when it comes down to it, you’ll always be second place to his career.
You haven’t been flirting with Ushijima, but now you wonder if maybe you should have. There’s a bitter part of you that wants to hurt Oikawa as much as he’s hurt you, even if it’s only for a moment.
Ushijima seems completely oblivious to the situation, which you’re sure just infuriates your boyfriend even more. He’s described to you in great detail how one of the things he finds most frustrating about Ushijima is how completely and utterly unbothered he is by everything.
“Oikawa,” the man closest to you greets, standing up. “It’s good to see you.”
“Ushiwaka.” The smile your boyfriend directs to his old rival is tight-lipped and void of any of its usual warmth. Oikawa’s gaze settles on you next, eyes narrowing even further. “I’ve been looking for you everywhere. Come on, let’s go.”
“I’m sorry.” Your voice is plain, dull, as you tilt your head at him mockingly. “Do I know you?”
“Stop being cute.” The way he practically snaps it makes it clear he doesn’t think you’re being cute at all. In fact, he actually looks pretty pissed, and you almost smile at the realization. As petty as he can be, it’s clear you’re better at this than he is. “It’s getting late. It’s time for us to leave.”
Ushijima’s gaze slides over to you. “Do you know him?”
But you’re not looking at him. You’re looking straight at Oikawa, at the tenseness of his shoulders, the way he’s on the verge of fuming. Apparently, just the idea of you being alone with his oldest rival is more concerning to him than the fact that you’ve barely spent any time with each other in the past two months. It leaves a bitter taste in your mouth.
“Of course.” You stand, closing the short distance between yourself and Oikawa. “He’s my boyfriend. My loving, devoted, perfect boyfriend.”
You place the hand that’s not holding your water bottle against his chest, perching on your toes to deliver a sweet kiss to his cheek. When you pull away, the stain of your lipstick remains, and you wonder if he can feel the resentment in it.
“I just forget sometimes, is all. You know, since we never see each other.”
You don’t bother to examine the look on his face. You can’t find it in yourself to care anymore. You turn to Ushijima instead, offering a tired but genuine smile.
“Thank you again for your help, Ushijima. It was a pleasure to officially meet you. Have a good night.”
You turn on your heel and walk away, down the hall and past several magnificent paintings, past any apology you would normally be ready to offer. It’s petty and deliberate, the kind of reaction you didn’t think you were capable of before this, but it’s all you have left. Oikawa doesn’t care, hasn’t cared for a while actually, so neither will you.
You don’t know what he says to Ushijima or if he even says anything at all, but you do hear his footsteps when he runs after you. They slow as he gets closer, but you don’t stop walking, don’t turn back to look.
“Are you fucking kidding me? What– what the fuck was all that back there, huh?”
You stop. Slowly, you turn to look at him, but you don’t say anything. You just stand there, watching, waiting, feeling absolutely nothing as you do.
“‘It’s a pleasure to meet you.’” It’s a poor imitation of your voice, but the intention is there. “So what, I don’t spend enough time with you and suddenly it’s okay for you to flirt with someone else?”
You laugh without humor. “That’s what you’re stuck on? The fact that I had a conversation with him and not the part where I said we never see each other? You truly have a gift, Tooru.”
The frown on his face deepens, but the anger in his eyes softens a little, replaced by a hint of guilt. There’s regret there, too, over not keeping the promise he made to you. You would be more moved by it if you weren’t so completely infuriated right now.
He closes his eyes, letting out a sigh. “I’m not going to have this argument with you. Not here.”
“Where should we have it then, hm? In the lobby? At the hotel? We’re damn sure not having it when we get home, because you’re never fucking there!”
You don’t mean to scream at him, but that’s what comes out. You’re not sure which one of you is more surprised by it. Oikawa stares at you, wide-eyed and stunned, as if you’ve just slapped him, and you stare back, breathing hard. You’re so focused on each other you don’t even notice you have an audience until you hear a new, familiar voice speak.
“Hey.” Iwaizumi steps between you, concerned and cautious.
He’s the only one here, thank god, but his appearance reminds you that this is definitely not the time or the place for any of this. You shouldn’t care who overhears you, but as angry as you are, you’re not selfish enough to air out your relationship’s problems in front of all of Oikawa’s friends and colleagues. You still love him, after all, even if it’s hurting you to do so.
Iwaizumi casts a wary glance between you and his best friend, almost like he’s preparing himself to play the unwilling referee in what seems to be an inevitable fight. Any other time, you might’ve laughed at the look on his face, but not now. “Everything okay, you two?”
It’s not. It hasn’t been for a while, and right now Oikawa’s looking at you like he’s finally realizing that too.
Tumblr media
The car ride back to the hotel is eerily silent. You and Oikawa share no words, no fleeting glances; you don’t even sit close enough to touch each other, not even accidentally. The ride up to your floor is spent in a similar fashion, a cold distance settling between you that’s never been there before.
Or maybe it’s been there for a while, and it took you screaming at him in the middle of a party for the two of you to notice it.
Miraculously, you make it into your room in one piece. The two of you remove your coats and shoes in that same suffocating silence. You make it to the bedroom without exchanging a single word, and he takes a seat on the bed while you sit in front of the vanity and begin removing your jewelry.
Another long stretch of silence later, and then he’s meeting your eyes in the mirror to ask, “Can we talk?”
You consider telling him to go fuck himself instead, but somehow you bite down the urge.
“About what?” You take off your necklace, a pretty golden chain with your birthstone on it that he got you for your birthday. “About how I wasn’t flirting with Ushijima? Because I wasn’t, if that’s what you’re still so torn up about.”
“I know you weren’t,” he mutters, running a hand through his hair. It’s a bit longer than you remember; that’s how long it’s been since you’ve really gotten the chance to look at him. “I don’t know why I said that.”
“I do. You were jealous.” Your earrings are the next to go, another gift from him. He’s scattered himself into so many pieces across your life; you’re not sure how you’ll ever be free of him, or if you’ll ever want to be. “But you had no reason to be. I would never do that to you.”
“I know.” He looks down, fidgets with his fingers, meets your gaze again through the mirror. His tie is loosened around his neck, making him look disheveled in just the way you like. “I’m sorry.”
“Great.” Your tone is short, clipped, as you finally remove the last of your jewelry. “Is that all?”
“Please don’t do that. I’m trying to have a conversation with you here, so that we can fix this. I mean, don’t you want to talk about everything, especially after tonight?”
“I’ve already said everything I needed to say, Tooru.” You break your gaze from the mirror, turning to glance over your shoulder at him instead. “You know exactly what the problem is, just like I know you won’t do a single thing to change it. You can’t, because my feelings –our entire relationship– all of that stuff’s always going to come second to the things you want.”
The frown from earlier is back now, this time paired with a hard look, like he can’t believe you’re questioning his commitment, even though he’s given you dozens of reasons to do so. “That’s not true.”
“Isn’t it?” You rise to your feet, a dry, humorless laugh escaping your throat as you do. “Tell that to the countless dates you’ve missed. Tell that to the bed you hardly sleep in anymore, to all the times I’ve fallen asleep without you and then woken up only to realize you still weren’t there.”
The words feel heavy and bitter on your tongue, your anger growing the more you think about everything you’ve endured over the past few months, all the different ways he’s managed to disappoint you.
“There’s nothing untrue about it, Tooru. You just don’t care about me the way I care about you.”
“Are you seriously going to stand there and tell me I don’t care about you?” he demands. “Of course I care. I love you, dammit. How could you ever think I don’t?”
“How couldn’t I? God, have you seriously not heard a single thing I’ve said this entire time? I’m practically in this relationship by myself, and you’re doing absolutely nothing to change that!”
“You think I like having to leave you on your own so much? You think it doesn’t break my heart seeing the look on your face every time I have to tell you I can’t make it to all the things I want to be there for?” He’s on his feet now, hand jabbing at his chest, like if he could rip out his heart and show you the scars there, he would. “Because it does, okay? It makes me fucking miserable, but what else am I supposed to do?”
“You’re supposed to be there, Tooru!” You don’t know when you started crying, but you are. You’re yelling too, hands shaking, voice raw. “You’re supposed to be there when I need you, not make stupid promises you can’t keep! And even if you can’t be there all the time, you’re at least supposed to try!”
“I am trying! I’ve been trying this whole time, and you know that!” He sounds as exasperated and raw as you do, waving his arms around, red-faced and distressed. “You knew what my goals were before we started dating. I never hid them from you. You knew exactly what I wanted, you knew how hard I would have to work, how hard it would be for us, and you agreed to be with me anyway! You promised me you wouldn’t let it come between us!”
“Well, that was before I knew how fucking impossible it would be!”
There’s nothing productive being exchanged between the two of you anymore. You’re just screaming at each other. You call him obsessed and self-absorbed; he calls you needy and demanding. He tells you to grow up and stop asking for so much, and you tell him he’s chasing a pointless dream.
You’re not trying to compromise with each other, or trying to make the other see your point of view. You both just want to hurt each other, and you do.
You’re crying by the end of it; so is he, but you both refuse to admit defeat. It’s one of the many things you have in common: your stubbornness. You’re out of breath and hurting and there’s a small part of you that just wants him to hold you, but at the same time, you can’t stand the sight of him anymore.
You storm out of the room before he gets the chance to, looking back to catch him throwing his hands in the air in exasperation. You throw yourself onto the couch and opt to sleep there for the night, because you know that if you don’t, you’ll probably end up strangling each other.
Oikawa, for once, is wise enough not to follow you, but there’s a quiet voice inside your heart that wishes he did.
Tumblr media
You wake up the next morning with a stuffy nose and a migraine. The price of crying yourself to sleep, you suppose. Your appetite is gone but you know that if you don’t eat anything soon the pain behind your skull will only get worse, so you force yourself to stand from the couch.
You step on something hard, eyes widening at the indignant noise of protest it lets out in response. You lose your footing almost immediately, toppling over onto the carpet. It’s everything you can do to throw out your hands and avoid smacking your forehead against the coffee table.
“What the fuck, Tooru?” You scowl when you realize it’s not a random object you’ve tripped over, but rather your own boyfriend, who for some inconceivable reason is laying on the floor beside the couch. “It’s bad enough we spent last night fighting– now you’re trying to kill me, too?”
“I could say the same thing to you!” Oikawa exclaims, returning your scowl with equal exasperation. He’s rubbing at his chest, a pout tugging at his lips as he groans. “You just stepped on my chest. I could have died.”
“Oh, bite me, drama queen.” You roll your eyes, preparing to stand up again, but then you notice the dark circles on his usually flawless skin, the messiness of his hair, and the fact that he’s still wearing his suit from last night, though the tie is gone and the first few buttons of his shirt are loosened. “...did you actually sleep out here? On the floor? Why didn’t you just sleep on the bed like a normal person?”
“I couldn’t.” He pouts even more, and when you nudge his leg with your foot, he sighs and runs a hand through his hair. “It didn’t feel right without you. It never does. But it felt even worse after last night.”
It melts your heart, you admit. Just a little. But it’s not enough to make you forgive him or to forget your argument, and right now he’s looking at you like he knows that too.
Still, you feel the urge to remind him, “I’m still pissed at you.”
“I know. I’m really sorry. Not just for what I said last night, but for everything I’ve done before that. I never should’ve made you feel like you’re asking for too much, because you’re not, it’s just…” He takes a shaky breath, leans his head back against the couch from where he sits beside you on the floor. “...it’s hard.”
He turns his body slightly so he’s facing you fully. He starts to reach out a hand towards you, almost like he wants to cup your cheek, but he seems to think better of it and lets his hand drop down between you. You almost smile.
His eyes are hesitant as they meet yours, apologetic. “I shouldn’t have yelled at you.”
“I shouldn’t have yelled at you, either.” You fiddle with the straps of your gown where they’ve slid down your arm. You were so exhausted and upset after your fight with him that you didn’t bother to change out of it. “...do you really think I’m needy and demanding?”
“Of course not,” he answers easily. “Do you really think I’m chasing a pointless dream?”
“Definitely not. Your dream isn't pointless, Tooru, it’s amazing, and it’s one I know you can reach.” Your hands brush where they rest between you. He tenses slightly, like he’s not sure you’ll want to touch him after everything, but you slide your fingers through his and watch as he lets out a quiet sigh of relief. “I was just angry.”
“Me too.” He squeezes your hand, and you let him pull you a bit closer to him, let him press a kiss to the back of your palm. “I don’t want to fight with you. And I definitely don’t want to disappoint you anymore.”
“I don’t want to blame you or resent you anymore, either.” You inch closer and he lets you rest your head against his shoulder, resting his own against yours in return. A clock ticks on the wall behind you. For the first time in a while, it feels like the two of you are back in sync. “So what are we gonna do about it?”
It’s the million-dollar question, it seems. And it’s the one that, after weeks of heartache, of missing each other and blaming each other at the same time, he finally has the answer to.
Tumblr media
When you return to Argentina together, everything changes. Oikawa’s determination goes back to being something you love, now that he’s putting it towards making sure the two of you get to spend time together. He’s at the apartment more; does his best to get to dinner on time, to attend outings with your family and friends, and to meet you halfway at fancy restaurants and magnificent museums and shower you with his undivided attention.
It’s not perfect. He’s still busy, so he can’t be with you all the time, but the effort is there. You see it now more than ever, and it’s all you’ve wanted.
It doesn’t last.
You spend three blissful months together, both of you putting in an equal amount of effort to make it work, to understand each other and support each other, even when it seems impossible. But Oikawa’s schedule becomes more and more unyielding as time goes on, and it’s not long before the cycle of absence starts all over again.
If you had to really pinpoint the beginning of the end, you’d say it’s the night of your presentation. The research project you’ve spent countless hours working on has finally been completed, and tonight you’re going to share it with the public; this thing you’ve struggled with since you entered grad school, this thing you’ve put your blood, sweat, and tears into, both metaphorically and literally.
It goes incredibly well, as your professors and mentors reassured you it would. Your classmates, friends, and parents are all there, and they get to watch and glow with pride as the room erupts into applause once you finish your presentation, knocking the whole thing out of the park just like they knew you would.
The only one who isn’t there is Oikawa, despite you telling him about this ages ago, despite it being written on the calendar hanging on your fridge. You know he texted you with some excuse, but you don’t bother to check which one it was this time.
It should hurt more. It should make you want to shout and scream, to sob and cry, but it doesn’t. The anger you felt before, the fury and heartbreak; it’s not there anymore. It’s gone. You’re not sad or upset or disappointed. You just don’t feel anything at all.
Your friends offer to take you out for the night to celebrate, but you politely decline. Instead, you make your way to the apartment you share with Oikawa, finding it emptier than it’s ever been before.
Months ago, you might’ve cried. Now you do nothing, say nothing, feel nothing. It’s just numb.
By the time Oikawa does make it home, you’re already packed. You’re sitting at the table, waiting, still as a statue. He greets you in a flurry of brown hair and frantic movement, an apology you don’t care to listen to fast on his lips. He whirls by you so quickly he doesn’t even notice your bags stacked next to you.
“Shit, baby, I’m so sorry! I know I’m late, but I’m here now and I promise I won’t be going anywhere for the next few–…”
It takes him a few moments, a couple of double-takes, but finally, he registers the silence around him, the sight of you at the table, surrounded by your things. For once, he has no idea what to say; you see it in the way he looks at you, the way he freezes, wide-eyed and almost afraid.
“My research presentation was today,” you start. “It went great. They’re going to publish it in a journal.”
You watch his face crumple right before your eyes, watch the way his shoulders slump. He looks more defeated now than during any of his previous losses, and so, so incredibly guilty.
“But I thought it wasn’t until–...but it was, wasn’t it? Oh, god. I– I’m so sorry. I’m so, so sorry.”
“I know you are.”
You stand up. The smile you send him is tired and a little sad, but it’s not bitter, at least not anymore. You’re past that now. You’d like to think you both are.
“I’m so proud of you, Tooru. You work harder than anybody I’ve ever known. I just know you’re going to reach every single one of your dreams.”
You mean it, too. Oikawa has an incredible future ahead of him. You’ve always known that. Once upon a time, you believed you might be a part of it, but not anymore.
“...but I also know that I can’t be with you when you do. I can’t– I won’t be second place for the rest of my life.”
He’s incredibly stubborn, and this time is no different. He tries to change your mind, tries to convince you to stay, but it’s far too little and far too late. Too much has happened between you two, and you just don’t have it in you to be disappointed anymore.
You love him. You do. You always will, and you tell him so, too. But just because you love someone, you remind him softly, doesn’t mean you’re meant to be with them. You love him enough to let him go, and you’re hoping he loves you the same.
“But you promised you’d stay,” he whispers, more heartbroken than you’ve ever seen him over all of this, over you. “You promised we’d figure it out. And now...now you’re just giving up on us?”
You place your keys on the table. The clock in your– no, his kitchen ticks along. It matches the slow, broken beating of your heart. He’s run out of time, and you’ve run out of chances.
“That’s just it, Tooru. I have nothing left to give you.”
This time when you leave, you don’t look back.

Hello, I wanted to ask for a request with Jesper? I wanted to see him being very protective of the reader. Maybe he saves her from a fight during a job or something (like, she can handle herself just fine but ended up getting trapped by a lot of guards idk) and he comes and shoots them at last minute and is very worried because she did got hurt. Then later she can be all like "it's nothing, I'm fine" but he insists on patching her up and caring for her wounds (maybe make it a soft moment with him being all gentle and lovey with her), kinda blaming himself for her getting hurt, and maybe then confessions are made? Thank you :D

Warnings: knives, blood, alcohol (used for cleaning of injuries), brief mentions of nausea and not sure what else!

Partners.
That's all you were. That's what Jesper kept telling himself, at least.
But it was so strange with you - he felt so strange with you. Like he should protect you, admire you, love you, care for you whenever he could.
He felt you should always be in his heart, and you were. Some part of him, yet every part of him, was saved for you.
On the days he was truly tired, had run errand after errand, participated in a heist, anything that exhausted him, he would save just a simple smile or two for you.
Because he felt he couldn't, and shouldn't, leave you without one. He needed you to be in his life and wanted you to need him too. He wanted you to rely on the him as he would you, and most importantly, deeply desired that you could love him the way he did you.
This was not in a warped version of reality, a figment of his mind and imagination as a sick, manipulative goal, he only wanted to be loved.
By someone. Alright, anyone. Any person. Admittedly, one specific person.
He wanted to be loved by you.
Jesper knew he did, in fact, love you. And when he realised, his heart had raced, Nina looking up in alarm before seeing the lovestruck bliss upon his face.
Jesper Fahey was in love with you.
And boy, was he in trouble now.
Tumblr media
Chaos.
You were extremely similar to Jesper in that way: the way that meant it followed you wherever you went. There was no escaping the chaos, not when you were apparently born from the very depths of it yourself and had a friend quite the same.
A friend.
That's all you were.
It sent a pang of agony rippling through your chest, possibly enough to send you to your knees, but you swiftly shook the thought away.
Focus was what was needed.
Although, it seemed so tempting to think of him, to picture his face in your mind's eye one last time. One last time before you died.
Because it had been going well. But later, there was a high chance of fatality. But, you decided to do what you did best, instead of giving into the niggling voices that told you to remember every brush of the arm, every smile across a room, every chair he pulled out for you; instead, you decided to give into something else.
You decided, to give in to the chaos.
Your strategy was giving fairly good results, just as you had anticipated, considering it always did. Going with your gut seemed to be the best way of going about it, and it was.
Until it wasn't.
Since you were now improvising and no one appeared to be taking any notice of the shots fired, or grunts of pain heard, when even more men than previously swarmed the alley, you were taken aback.
You had not predicted how much effort the rival gang you were on a heist against would gamble on you, sending out what seemed to be the majority of their forces for just one person.
You supposed that meant whatever Kaz had up his sleeve would work fairly easily now though, the level of guard lowered and their numbers dilapidated.
He better thank me later.
Just as you flipped a man over your back, quickly and efficiently leaning down over him, your shadow looming as your hand reached for your knife that was meant to be in your belt.
"Looking for this?"
You gasped and your eyes boggled as your dagger, that the man beneath you had obviously stolen, plunged into your side, the hilt far from buried in your torso as you recovered from the shock as soon as you could find it in your abilities to.
Another knife was ripped out of a corpse beside you and burrowed in his chest, right above his heart, before he could register what was taking place.
You stood, groaning as you clasped the sore flesh surrounding your wound, not yet having pulled out the weapon to prevent further blood loss.
You spun to face the remaining gang members behind you, grimacing as you felt the bile slip upward in your throat, stubbornly rising no matter how many times you swallowed.
Now you had nothing. Nothing to defend yourself with and nothing to help you in this fight. Nothing and no one.
Dying alone was a nauseating fear, circling through your head and running rampage, sending you into a frenzied panic.
Your back hit the wall, the skin burning as it was grazed against the bricks and your heart racing as you failed to bend to the side, only a grunt sounding from your throat as your hand pressed further against your abdomen.
In that moment, you closed your eyes and prayed. Simply prayed to the Saints you had once ridiculed with Kaz, hoping there was a chance, if even just a miniscule one, that you could be saved.
And maybe Inej had been right all along, that you owed her an overdue apology, because maybe, just maybe, Saints did exist.
And perhaps, Jesper Fahey was yours.
He came barrelling around the corner, your eyes clenched tightly shut as you heard gunshots ring out, believing that moment could be your end, that heist your undoing.
But no, because when you peered through your lashes, swaying precariously on your feet, he was there.
You gaped in shock, confusion and finally, joy. You wanted to jump into his arms, tell him of your gratefulness, all because he hadn't left you alone.
Dying was no incredible feat: it happened in Ketterdam everyday, bodies piled in corners and rotting in the dank, narrow streets. To die with no one to close your eyes, only being forced to gaze glassily into the deep grey sky, or no friend to comfort you in your last seconds or less, even, seemed terrifying.
Although, now you wouldn't have to worry about that. Because he was here.
Jesper rushed to you, nimbly leaping over corpses and stepping around barrels or other obstructions, eyes full of concern that only grew when his line of sight landed upon your side.
You could only weakly smile as his arm was slung over your shoulders and his other was suddenly dipping below your upper leg.
"Jes, I don't need picking up!"
"Hmm... I beg to differ, darling. So do your knees apparently."
That was when you realised just how they had buckled and how much of your weight you were making him support. You sighed and gave a sheepish yet irked nod, giving consent to let him swoop you off your feet, and he did so without hesitance after he observed your approval.
He traipsed through the streets, using his knowledge of shady back alleys to keep away from crowds and even if he had swaggered down the main street, no one would have batted an eye.
Or offered help. Ketterdam was not the place for helpful neighbors or friendly coworkers, and often the inhabitants were cruel, selfish and overall generally appeared to be disappointed with their whole lives.
Go figure.
The capital of Kerch was not an actual hospitable place, but some little nooks and crannies could just squeeze you into a sort of community. You had once known a baker that had given you free whole loafs of bread, shaking you off when you tried to pay.
Your palm was still positioned flat over your wound, digging in uncomfortably and your fingers splayed slightly in the air. You didn't dare move it, not making a sound either, only letting soft whines out when Jesper shifted you in his arms, to which he would respond with an apologetic gaze, no words said.
The scratch was not life threateningly deep, just shocking, and well, frightening; it reminded you anything could happen, just one simple change of plan could kill you.
It mortalised you in a way, made you think of how easily it could all be over. Sometimes, galavanting off with the Crows, searching giddily for trinkets with Nina and Jes made you feel as though you could do anything, stay in that moment forever.
But you were human. And right then, you had a knife in your side. Maybe it would have been better to pull it out, considering now every jostle sourced from your friend's sharp steps, heels tapping forcefully on the stones, could possibly send the dagger closer to your ribcage or organs.
"Jes."
"Yes, love?"
"Pull it. Please."
It was a beg for help, and a desperate one after he had only glanced down at you as he continued walking when answering to his name.
He did as you asked, laying you down to the side for a moment. He always had, providing whatever you needed and doing what you thought was best when it came to you.
"Ready? It'll hurt, lovely."
"You're making me more stressed, just do it already!"
It was true. You had broken a sweat as he had been trying to prepare you, beads of perspiration forming on your hairline.
If you had expected another warning, he certainly surprised you by wrenching the mini sword out of your side without anything else said. You cried out, gasping like a fish out of water and feeling just so, the crusting of the aging blood aiding that.
"I know, I know. Just give me a sec, okay? It'll be fine."
Jesper continued to mutter reassurances as he wrapped your scarf around your lower back and torso. The hardest part was when you had to lift your hips and rotate your body slightly so his slender fingers could grasp the other end of the garment to tie it together fully.
"I know. It's okay, yeah? It's fine."
He was in now way immature but his voice was definitely becoming higher and squeakier in fear: the tell tale lurching of his stomach appeared as he accidentally took a glance at the deep crimson blossoming over the scarf and staining his hands, managing to seep into the creases of his palms, depositing itself under his previously pristine nails and cuticles.
You could tell he was worried as he picked you up once more, yelping out a 'sorry' when his wrist brushed your blazing, sensitive flesh.
It was a troublesome trip to return to the Slat, Jesper aggravating the cut when he shifted to prevent you from slipping downward.
Once you were there however, you were adamant you could treat your injuries yourself, only really having a few minor scrapes and bruises, especially a sort of natural eyeshadow in the form of a black eye that had not fully appeared, yet was still already prominent.
You practically tumbled out of Jesper's arms, limping up the stairs to your room while the Zemeni followed closely behind you, a hand on the small of your back to support you while you found your balance, ticklish tingles spreading from the spot his fingertips made contact with your shoulder blades.
"Jes, I really don't need help, like, at all. Just let me-"
You were cut off as he pulled the alcohol out of your grasp, grinning in that charming way only he could pull off, only serving to irritate you further as he winked.
"Sure you don't. It's just that I can help. And I will, alright? I don't care if you don't agree, it's happening."
With that, the scarf was gently pulled from your skin, a hiss drawn from you as the rag he had tipped the alcohol onto touched your side. You forced yourself to control a flinch, only shying away a little as his unoccupied hand came absentmindedly and immediately to your unharmed side, pushing you back to have the cloth back on your skin, scooting you along the desk you were perched on.
"Just a bit more. I promise, darling."
You nodded, gritting your teeth against the pain until it subsided, choosing to focus on the warm and calloused hand resting on your other side, not yet removed.
"Alright, now it's only the little things."
Your mouth opened to protest, explain you could easily do that yourself, but Jesper only tutted under his breath and used two fingers to close your jaw and tilt your head simultaneously to observe the shiner decorating your eye.
"None of that. Now, all we've got is this, which I can't do much about, and that nasty gash on your arm."
He didn't think about what he was doing, how casually and carefully he was caring for you, as though you were a china doll, porcelain and fractured, broken with any move that was not delicate.
You didn't think about how much you enjoyed someone looking after you for once, taking such a chunk of his time to simply stand between your legs and help.
Suddenly, as you pouted and your bottom lip was drawn between your teeth, withholding a groan while he cleansed your upper forearm, his thumb came up to untuck your lip, barely ghosting over it, although the feeling was still so delicious. Tantalising.
And his arm dropped, cloth soaked with a random drink dropping to the rug as his gaze stayed on your lips. And he leant in, as did you, finally sharing a sweet kiss, tender and loving, all things beautiful and wondrous.
His stare burned into the floor as it drew downward, a murmur heard drifting through the air a few seconds later, "You know, I was so worried about you?" You moved to speak before he hushed you, "No, just let me... I'm saying, I was more concerned than a friend probably should have been. Maybe, I mean I don't know. Actually nevermind..."
But he never had a chance to finish as his locks of chocolate brown were swept away from his forehead, a kiss planted there in replacement.
"I'd love to go out with you, Jes, love. Or, I mean, whatever you want to do..."
Chuckles filled the room pleasantly as you both laughed together, cheeks flushed and lips almost swollen, at your embarrassment and haplessness, plus the lack of tact.
You supposed you were just fools in love. And in that moment, you wanted to be suspended there, floating forever.
With him.

Cheryl//maple syrup
Request: Can you do the secret and sins when Veronica comments on the Cheryl’s twincest and the reader defends Cheryl even though the reader kinda diss likes Cheryl.
hey! how is everyone? i hope you’re all well and good! i may have slightly cheated a bit and copy and pasted a previously written out bit from another request where they’re playing secrets and sins. but that’s only because i didn’t see the point in writing the same dialogue again. anywayyyy enjoy!
It seems that whenever Cheryl Blossom arrives at a party, the party atmosphere disappears. Maybe it’s her grating personality or overbearing need to be liked, whatever it is, within ten minutes of her and Chuck gate crashing Jughead’s unwanted birthday party, there’s already tension.
Which is not made any better by the suggestion of secrets & sins. Your friends are gathered in a circle in the living room, while you sit off to the side. You want to eavesdrop, but you don’t want to reveal your deepest, darkest secrets, not to your best friends and definitely not to Cheryl.
It’s clear everyone that’s been roped into this stupid game doesn’t want to be there. Betty shifts in her seat uncomfortably and stares at you with pleading eyes. You shoot her an unsure smile back before taking a sip of your drink and she drops your gaze, glancing at Archie before staring down at the floor.
Cheryl is the only one that looks like she’s enjoying herself, but you’re not surprised. Chaos and the chance to get dirt on everyone so she can control them even more than she already does is what Cheryl lives for.
You glare at the red-head, who’s smiling brightly as she looks around at her victims and when her eyes land on you, her eyes narrow and the smile is replaced by a smirk.
“What’s wrong Y/n? Did nobody pick you to be on their team?” She asks, her bright red lips forming a perfect pout and you can’t help but stare at them for a few seconds longer than you should. You feel your face heat up and look away, blaming the alcohol for the affects you’re feeling and refusing to believe that you’ve just thought of Cheryl Blossom as attractive.
A shiver runs up your spine at the thought and you lips pull into a pout as you stare down at the now empty cup in your hands. You scratch at the plastic and listen to the mumbles and whispers of the teenagers stood and sat around you.
Whoever isn’t partaking in Secrets and Sins, have gathered around to watch and judge, and you can’t help but lean in a little closer, they may be some of your closest friends, but you can’t help wanting to know what they’ve been hiding from one another...you’re only human and at least you’re not as bad as Cheryl.
Cheryl lives of rumours. Like Gretchen Wieners with smaller and redder hair.
“What the hell is Secrets and Sins?” Jughead asks, all eyes on Cheryl as she moves around in a circle, eyeing everyone suspiciously as she starts to explain the rules.
“Its a variation on Truth or Dare…in which we own our truths by telling it like it is. I’ll start the game with…Veronica Lodge.” She smirks and you roll your eyes at her.
“Naturally.” Veronica sighs and you pat her shoulder.
“Let’s begin with the day you and your mob wife of a mother came to town for a so-called fresh start.” She says, her eyes filled with accusations and anger before she’s even gotten to her question.
You really don’t know why so many people like her, well you do, it’s because she’s rich and she bullies people into being her friend because she’s unable to make them any other way.
She’s snobby, spoilt and just plain mean, but that doesn’t stop you from sometimes staring at her for longer than you want to and definitely should.
“Tell us Veronica, what’s so fresh about defiling Archie Andrews in a closet?”
“That was your doing.” She replies confused, her arms crossed defensively against her chest.
“Moving on to dear Daddy Lodge…” She interrupts, getting more and more angry by the second. “Isn’t it true that your father, from prison, illegally purchased the drive-in land? Which makes me wonder, what else is he doing behind bars?” She continues and you glance to your side at Joaquin, who shares a very suspicious look with FP
“Well, I can’t speak for my father…but I can think of someone with a very dirty secret. Specifically, Cheryl killing her very own brother.” The tension in the room shifts and your eyes widen.
As much as you dislike Cheryl, you know how close her and Jason were and you knew how much it hurt and how she’s still hurting now because of his death. You’ve seen her crying underneath the bleachers after school, you see how her eyes are a little more dull than they used to be. They don’t sparkle as much when she talks and when she’s not spreading hate, she’s just not saying anything at all.
She smiles less when with her friends, and sometimes you think the only reason she’s horrible to people is so she can feel something. But that doesn’t excuse it and so you shake your head and earn a few confused looks as you try to stop yourself from defending Cheryl Majorie Blossom.
“Everyone knows how much I loved my brother.” Cheryl defends herself.
“Exactly.” Veronica replies. “But did you love him, maybe in ways that a sister shouldn’t love a brother?” She continues and you watch as Cheryl becomes more and more upset. “And as you got older, Jason started to think it was strange, unnatural. So he chose Polly over you. So you shot him between the eyes with one of your father’s many hunting rifles.”
Her shoulders slump a little and her bottom lip quivers as she looks around the room helplessly. The confident look she usually has, has slipped off like a mask, revealing a very sad girl underneath and suddenly you find yourself standing up.
“That’s enough Veronica.” You say, surprising everyone, including Cheryl. “Just leave her alone, it’s not worth it.” You add quietly and slowly sit back down again.
Veronica hold her hands up in defence and you force a smile before going back to picking at the plastic of your cup.
“I don’t need you to defend me.” Cheryl seethes, her eyes full of hatred as she looks at you, and for some reason it stings. You’re used to her not liking you, but her hating you, hurts you for some unknown reason and you have to take a few deep breaths in order to stop the ache in your chest.
“This game is sick.” Dilton adds and Cheryl uses the distraction to wipe away the tears on her cheek. “I wanna go next.” He adds making everyone look at him.
“Thats the spirit, Doiley. What secrets do you have to reveal to us?” Chuck grins.
“I saw Ms. Grundy’s car by Sweetwater River the day Jason went missing.” He says and everyone gasps. People mumble and whisper around you and Cheryl stares straight at Dilton, her eyes narrow. “I told Betty and Jughead, and then Ms. Grundy quit her job and left Riverdale, like, two days later. And let’s not forget that Archie was also at Sweetwater River that morning.”
“Oh, my God.” Cheryl whips her head round to look at Archie. “Colour me shocked. Archie Andrews, is that why you became a mediocre musician overnight? Because you and Ms. Four-Eyes were pulling a Mary Kay Letourneau?”
“Don’t say anything. Don’t get in the gutter with them.” Veronica mutters while glaring at Cheryl.
“Wait, what? Andrews was banging a teacher?” Chuck asks, his tone a mix of surprise and impressed and you roll your eyes at him. “I wish I would’ve known. I would have added you and Ms. Grundy to the book of conquests.”
“Classy, Chuck, as always.”
“Wait a second.” Cheryl interrupts. “That also explains why Archie can’t seem to keep a girlfriend to save his life. He’s got serious mommy issues. Anything to say for yourself Arch? Were you a victim or a perpetrator?”
“Dilton Doiley plays with guns.” Betty tries to change the subject but she’s immediately shut down.
“Big whoop, Betty. So Doiley’s a psychopath. Everyone knows that.”
“Well, I guess it’s my turn now. Boy, do I have a twisted secret to reveal, starring Betty Cooper.”
“Leave her the hell alone, Chuck.” Archie threatens.
“Shut up, Andrews.” He replies. “Look, you may get a free peep show every night, but you do not know her. Hell, Betty doesn’t even know herself. Everybody knows why I got suspended, but what you don’t know...she dressed up like a hooker, in a God-awful black wig, drugged me, handcuffed me in the Jacuzzi, and well, I almost drowned until she got me to say what she wanted to hear. And then she really lost it. She actually thought she was Polly. But, hey, you knew all about this right, Jughead?” He asks. For a second, the question hangs in the air, everyone trying to figure out what to say next and how to process what they’ve just been told.
But then Jughead leaps forward at punches Chuck in face causing all hell to break loose. Everyone stands and FP shoves races forward to grab Chuck and throw him outside.
While everyone else follows them outside, eagerly awaiting a fight, you stay back and watch as Cheryl disappears upstairs, quietly sniffling as she goes. You look at the front door and then at the stairs and sigh, knowing that this is not gonna end well. She’s gonna insult you and tell you to leave her alone, but at least you can say you tried to help and then you won’t feel bad.
So you glance at the door one more time and pray that at least one person is filming whatever is happening out there, before wandering up the stairs in search for Cheryl.
The slight scent of maple syrup and the sound of faint cries coming from the bathroom lets you know where she’s hiding and you quietly creep along the slightly creaky floorboards, trying to remember which ones to avoid after years of practice when sneaking into Archie’s room in order to break him out.
You stop outside of the bathroom, light coming out of the cracks of the door and your hand hovers over the handle.
“Whoever is out there, go away.” She sniffles and you roll your eyes.
Turning on your heel, you start to walk away, but then you hear her sob and it makes you freeze.
You let out a quiet groan and curse the side of you that can’t leave people that are crying alone, before making your way back to the bathroom and slowly opening the door.
The first thing you see as you duck your hear around the door is Cheryl sat on the side of the bath. Her hands gripping the edges so hard that her knuckles have turned white. He hair has fallen in front of her face and you watch as she her shoulder shake and tears drip onto the bath mat.
“Cheryl?” You whisper and she looks up, her eyes wide as she quickly scrambles to wipe away the tears that have ruined her makeup. “Are you okay?” You ask and walk into the room. You close the door behind you and lean against it and her expression hardens.
“I’m having the best time.” She deadpans and you resist the urge to roll your eyes. God is she stubborn.
“Look, I know we’re not exactly best friends. Most of the time, I don’t really like to be around you-”
“Is this supposed to be making me feel better?” She asks and you shrug.
“But you know that if you need someone to talk to that won’t judge you or really know anything about you, you can. I’ll just sit and listen and you can cry or rant or I dunno. Just, know you’re not alone. You may not get along with everyone in this town, but we will all be here for you if you need us, all you have to do is ask.” You say honestly but anxiously while playing with your fingers.
She looks at you surprised, her lips part as if she’s going to say something and you’re sure she’s going to tell you to shut up and leave her alone, but instead she says thank you and you feel yourself relax a little.
“It’s okay.” You nod. “And for the record, what Veronica said was out of line. Everyone knows how much Jason meant to you and for her to say that is just wrong. We all know you loved your brother...a normal amount.” You add the last bit quietly and she stares at you for a few seconds before a smile twitches at her lips. “Would you like me to leave you alone now?” You ask and she shakes her head. You look around the small bathroom, trying to figure out the best place to sit and she moves along a little so you can sit beside her. “Would you like me to sit with you until you feel better?” You ask and she nods slowly, her lip wobbling again.
You sit beside her, place a gentle hand over hers and the two of you fall into a slightly awkward but not as bad as you thought it would be, silence.
After ten minutes, Cheryl stands and makes her way over to the mirror. She swipes her fingers under her eyes to try and get rid of her ruined mascara before messing with her hair to try and get it back to looking like normal.
“Do I look okay?” She turns to you and stands with her arms by her side. Your breath hitches when you look at her and you wonder how she looks so pretty even in the most unflattering light that is Archie Andrews’ bathroom.
You stand in front of her and slowly tuck a piece of hair behind her ear and you watch as she takes a shaky breath.
“Can I?” You ask, your fingers centimetres away from her cheek and she nods slowly, her eyes locked with yours and you feel yourself growing warm from the intensity. “There.” You smile once you’ve wiped a bit of mascara away from her cheek.
She grabs her bag and pulls her lipstick from it, but when she goes to apply it, her hands shake and you take it from her gently.
Your lips darts out between your tongue as you concentrate on keeping the lipstick in the lines, and you can feel her warm breath on your cheek.
“There!” You smile proudly once your finished, but she grabs your arm before you can pull away properly as her lips connect with yours in an almost frantic kiss.
You gasp a little and then relax and kiss back just as frantically, but she pulls away after a few seconds and the two of you stare at each other wide-eyed and breathless.
“Your lipstick’s ruined.” You whisper and her lips curl into a smile.
“Worth it.” She replies before pulling you close to her and kissing you again.

i’ve seen this film before (this is an old story)
༶•┈┈ oikawa tooru x gn!reader | angst
༶•┈┈ general m.list
tags/warnings: angst (with an okay ending), swear words, oikawa doesn’t become a pro, kinda college au, author was listening to the folklore album and also mother mother while writing this, i think that’s warning enough
word count: 1.48k
a/n: this was originally supposed to be some sort of prose poetry for my poetry sideblog but it didn’t work out so </3 also, trying out a somewhat new writing style hehe :3
“someone has to leave first. this is a very old story. there is no other version of this story.”
― richard siken, war of the foxes
»»————- ————- ————- ¤ ————- ————- ————-««
it goes like this: you fight over something small (it's never just something small), and after a while with whom the fault lies doesn't matter anymore (a double-edged sword: the fighting and the screaming and the shouting and the mocking).
it goes like this: radio silence, no missed calls, no unopened texts. oikawa, a character study: lover becomes roommate becomes a shadow you see slipping out the door if you wake up early enough. take-out ordered for one, a bed too large and cold. blankets that swamp you.
it ends like this: you cave first (you always cave first). oikawa is too proud to apologize and you are too tired and it is easier to brush all the broken pieces of each other under the rug (it's old, you don't remember where it came from, only that it's the colour of mold and smells like mothballs, despite your best efforts) and pretend the we are fucked up, we are fucking this up away. you hate the way this story ends, there is no other ending to this story.
»»————- ————- ————- ¤ ————- ————- ————-««
"tooru," you say, and the click of the door as he shuts it behind him rings like a gunshot. "do you know what day it is?"
oikawa is breathtaking, as always. "no," he says, casting his eyes to the moldy rug at your feet and then away, off to the side, "what day is it?" oikawa is breathtaking, and as always, he's a bad liar.
you smile, make no effort to pull it to your eyes. "it's pasta day," you answer, and it's as hollow as the ring-pop he gave you as a promise when you were younger (when you had thought you were in love; when you were in love).
he nods. "thanks for cooking dinner." he chucks off his shoes and socks in an act of practiced nonchalance.
there is no pasta day.
"welcome home," you tell him belatedly. he hums, says nothing in return.
(stilted conversation: the second stage of a terminal relationship.)
»»————- ————- ————- ¤ ————- ————- ————-««
once, you were young and in love.
it's been proven: youth and love makes one foolish.
the story, or the prologue - it goes like this: you meet oikawa at an impressionable age (the boy next door, the golden boy, the boy the coaches eye in a game, the boy all the girls talk about, the boy). he proceeds to make quite an impression on you (a burn from sparklers on a beach at a festival, a failed ollie that left a scar on your knee, bruised wrists from volleyball, the - invisible, but you know it’s there, just as oikawa knows - stitch over the exit wound in your chest). you grow up beside him and along the way, convince yourself that sticking with him is a natural progression (cherry blossoms bloom for only two weeks).
you and oikawa, him and you. it has always been the two of you. this story is very old, this story always ends the same way.
»»————- ————- ————- ¤ ————- ————- ————-««
you’re fucked up. you and oikawa, him and you - somewhere, along the way, you’d gotten fucked up. you don’t know who fucked it up first, it doesn’t matter anymore. (nothing matters but the brush of oikawa’s lips on your lips and the delicate flutter of his lashes and the rent that you cannot afford without a roommate).
oikawa is waiting on the couch when you come home (you came home later than usual - you’d seen him talking to a girl who had batted her lashes at him prettily the way he used to do to you). you shut the door behind you like a judge’s hammer, you slip out of your shoes and socks like water through earnest, cupped palms.
“late night?” he asks (no welcome home).
“yeah,” you reply (no i’m home). “i wanted to finish more of my project.”
oikawa hums, looks at you from beneath those damned lashes. “that essay?” he shifts, lifts his feet from the moldy-looking rug to sit cross-legged.
“yeah,” you say again. (you’d submitted the essay a month ago. you’re working on a presentation due in a week now).
“i ordered pizza,” oikawa says after a pause, “it should be arriving soon.”
you nod, step over the genkan and into the one-bedroom apartment. “thanks,” you tell him, “i’ll be right out.”
the bell rings while you’re changing into loungewear. you step out of the room just in time to see oikawa take the pizza out of the delivery girl’s hands - the same girl you’d seen touch his arm and smile (there is no home).
»»————- ————- ————- ¤ ————- ————- ————-««
oikawa’s working part-time at a local diner that keeps long hours. you’re working on a degree.
here’s the thing: he could probably afford a one-bedroom apartment of his own if he’s smart about his money.
here’s the thing: you can’t.
»»————- ————- ————- ¤ ————- ————- ————-««
“someone has to leave first,” wakatoshi tells you over lunch, “richard siken said so.”
“who?” there’s a tear right down the middle of your carrot-heart.
“someone who left first, or someone who was left. does it really matter?”
»»————- ————- ————- ¤ ————- ————- ————-««
here’s the point: oikawa with his long lashes and bedhead. oikawa’s sleepy smile in the mornings (you remember more than you know), the exact dip of his smile, the map you have of the lines of his palms.
the point is: oikawa staying out and not coming home (you stopped counting after the first month, but your heart still knows), waking up to a cold bed because oikawa started leaving earlier (to go the gym, he says). hesitancy in hands where there once was security, the subtle fall of a satellite out of orbit, the gradual fall out of the childhood familiarity of being young and in love. the point is -
the point is always oikawa.
»»————- ————- ————- ¤ ————- ————- ————-««
oikawa gets a new, better, actual job. he’s a volleyball coach at a high school, now.
you find out almost a month later, through takahiro and issei.
“oikawa’s confident they’ll make it to nationals this year,” issei says conversationally, sawing into his steak, “says his kids are promising.”
“what?” (you’ve seen this film before.)
“you know,” takahiro says, “the volleyball kids he’s coaching.” you did not know.
“ah,” you say anyway, fingers slipping around the fork in your hands and grasping onto the far edge of a cliff, “how could i forget.”
»»————- ————- ————- ¤ ————- ————- ————-««
you finish your degree. you get a (relatively) stable job at a nearby design office.
here’s the thing: they pay you well for a fresh graduate. here’s the thing: you can probably afford a one-bedroom apartment of your own if you’re smart about your money.
»»————- ————- ————- ¤ ————- ————- ————-««
“i’m moving out,” you say the moment oikawa opens the door, “thank you for everything.” (despite everything, you mean it. he’s taught you so many things.)
he smiles (it looks the same as what you imagine you’d smiled like the day of your first anniversary). “okay,” he says, and you think that that’s that.
“i’m sorry,” he says after a moment.
“yeah,” you say, “i am too.”
“thank you,” he continues, eyes almost the same shade as the day he’d brought you on a picnic, “i’ll always love you, you know that, right?”
you do (you feel the same, it is not the same love as when you had been fourteen and sixteen and seventeen and eighteen and nineteen, but it is still love).
“me too,” you say because there is nothing else to say, “you’re important to me. you’ll always be important to me.” it’s true: he was your first kiss and your first love and your first best friend and the first person you’re leaving first.
oikawa smiles, and disappears into the bathroom.
you stare at the ugly rug at your feet.
“is this okay?” you ask the broken pieces of you and him (curled around the jagged edges of each other, thorn to petal, bruise to open wound), “this is an okay ending, right?”
»»————- ————- ————- ¤ ————- ————- ————-««
here’s the point: oikawa as the boy you loved, oikawa as your youth, oikawa as a part of the past you will always hold close but not be held behind by.
a study in relationships: someone will always leave first, it is a very old story.
introspection and a universal truth: youth and love makes one foolish, being foolish is not always a bad thing.
the point is: someone will always leave first, sometimes people fall out of love, sometimes familiarity is not enough to hold them together.
an old story, another universal truth: someone will always leave first, it is not always a bad ending.
»»————- ————- ————- ¤ ————- ————- ————-««

CHAPTER 19: ATTACCA
Music glossary:        Attacca - "To attack at once"; used as a direction in music at the end of a movement to begin the next without pause
–––––
(Mood music: "The Conversation" - Pearl Django)
Being mere months away from graduating lycée meant that their group of friends didn’t have as many classes together, due to their diverse individual interests and talents. However, they always made sure to make time to hang out after school before their extracurricular activities began.
And thus, Adrien, Nino, and Alya made their way to the classroom where the art club gathered to meet up with Marinette. From there, Adrien would make his way to either fencing lessons or Chinese, depending on the day of the week. Marinette would join him on days when he had Chinese (as she’d become determined to master the language ever since her uncle visited from Shanghai a few years back), Alya would go to her journalism club, and Nino would travel to his part-time internship at the local recording studio.
“–and the backlogs just keep piling up!” Alya spoke as they walked, voice full of vigor and excitement. “I’ve had to recruit yet another mod to help me keep order in the forums! Especially since the Ladyblog has started going international and we’ve had to organize servers in different languages. You wouldn’t believe how crazy it’s gotten in there recently!”
“Dang, babe,” Nino interjected. “Sounds like things are super rough for you right now.”
“Not really, more busy than anything. Especially because I have that big research article due next week, there’s just not enough hours in the day to try to read everything that goes on in there. But I have my mods report to me daily, ‘cause I always like to stay on top of everything that goes on in the chats!”
“What’s gotten everyone so riled up in the Ladyblog lately?” Adrien chimed in. “I don’t recall it being nearly this busy last year.”
The trio entered the art club’s classroom and settled down at the table where Marinette sat, getting her various sketches organized. The art teacher was quite easy going, so they didn’t have to talk in hushed whispers and could come and go as they pleased.
“Well, to be honest, it’s because of Chat Noir,” Alya replied.
Adrien tried to contain his surprise. “R-really? What– uhhh, what do people have to say about him?”
He winced inwardly. He knew he shouldn’t ask. But curiosity got the better of him today. Maybe learning the news through the filter or Alya’s paraphrasing instead of reading the negative comments firsthand would lessen the sting of what people said about him.
Marinette whipped her head around at the mention of his alter ego. “Wait, what about Chat Noir?” she inquired.
“Girl,” Alya replied, her voice filled with renewed exuberance. “You would not believe how much we’ve had to censor and moderate all the inappropriate things people have been saying!”
Adrien flinched in his seat. “Wow… do people really hate him that much?” he asked, trying to conceal the dejection in his voice.
Alya busted out into loud guffaws. “Hate?! Dude, most people don’t hate him; they LOVE him! By ‘inappropriate’ comments, I mean the kinda stuff you wouldn’t want your grandma to catch you reading! There’s a whole giant section dedicated to his new fan club!” she said as she removed her glasses so she could wipe away the tears of laughter.
“WHAT?!” Adrien squawked in confusion, his face feeling hotter than the ovens back at the bakery. “A fan club??”
Marinette burst into uncontrollable snickering. “Has it really gotten that bad?!”
Nino joined in, “Bro! Adrien, I can’t believe you haven’t heard Alya rant about these rabid fans before! They call themselves the ‘Noir Nation’, and the kind of things they’ve been writing would make adult romance authors blush like schoolgirls!”
Alya nodded, thoroughly amused. “And that’s not including all the fanfiction people have been writing.”
“Wait– the WHAT?! There’s fanfiction?!!” Marinette gaped in shock, as if she’d been hit in the face with an enormous pie. “Alya, how come I never knew about this?!”
“Why? You wanna read em? Girl, you’ll get no judgment from me. If you wanna check ‘em out for yourself, just go check under the hashtag ‘Ladynoir’.”
Marinette stammered as her arms flailed in her bewilderment, accidentally knocking her phone off the table and onto the floor, her eyes bigger and rounder than Adrien had ever seen them. “They have a ship name?!” she screeched.
“Just mind the ratings though,” Alya advised. “Some of them can get pretty steamy. You wouldn’t want someone to catch you reading those in public,” she added with a wink.
Marinette continued to sputter incoherently. “NO, I am NOT gonna read it!! It would be different if they were fictional characters, but I could never read fanfiction about real people!”
Alya raised a skeptical eyebrow at her. “Mm-hmm… Sure.”
Marinette’s hands flew to her face, trying to hide how red her entire face had gotten, and released a long squeak that resembled a hamster on helium. As shocked as Adrien was about these rather unexpected news, seeing Marinette’s over-the-top reaction brought a wide grin to his face and he busted out laughing.
He bent over to retrieve Marinette’s phone, since she was too busy being mortified to notice it had fallen to the floor. As he was about to hand it back, the screen lit up and Adrien saw the lockscreen wallpaper: it was the same photo of Ladybug and Chat Noir that he himself had saved earlier that day. He smiled, not exactly sure what to make of it, but finding it adorable that she’d liked the photo enough to set it as her lockscreen.
He tapped her shoulder, waiting for her to respond. She emerged from behind her impromptu hand shield and turned her head, then her eyes widened once again as soon as she saw what Adrien was showing her. She jolted straight up, stiff as a board, and her eyes met his, cheeks turning tomato red. He winked at her, amused about this little secret between them, and handed back her phone without a word.
Marinette accepted it with a meek-sounding, “Thanks,” looking like she wanted to explain the photo, but not able to do so unless she wanted Alya and Nino to find out that she was potentially a… ahem– “Ladynoir” shipper.
Switching the conversation to something else (which Marinette seemed to be eternally grateful for), the group chatted until it became time for them to scatter to their next destinations.
With a wave, Adrien exited the classroom and headed towards fencing practice, one of the few activities he decided to stick with despite not being forced to participate. Fencing, along with Chinese lessons, were not only enjoyable, but were also quite useful. Sadly, he didn’t have access to a piano anymore, so he wasn’t able to pursue that hobby for the time being. Hopefully later down the line, when things had settled down and he’d found his own place to live, he’d be able to finance one.
Thinking about the future had become an exciting pastime instead of an anxiety-inducing one, and it was all thanks to his friends and those he cared about. He smiled as he reached the door to the locker rooms, continuing to daydream of what was to come.
(Mood music: "Recollection 3" - Shirō Sagisu (BLEACH OST, "The Diamond Dust Rebellion")
Adrien finished getting dressed for fencing, his head still blissfully floating in the clouds. He stored his belongings into his assigned locker, shutting it with a loud clang, which echoed through the empty room.
Huh...? Empty?
He swiveled his head around, surprised that there was no one beside him. He stood up and began walking down the large room, peeking down the other locker rows looking for his classmates; but there was nobody.
Where was everyone? There’s no way that every single one of them was running late. Had his lessons been cancelled and he’d somehow missed a text message or email? He began heading back towards his locker to check his phone for any schedule changes.
Before he reached his destination, however, heavy thudding footsteps broke the eerie silence. Adrien whipped his body around to greet whoever they belonged to.
The owner of those footsteps was one of the last people Adrien expected to meet here.
“Gaspard?!”
Adrien stood agape, face to face with his old bodyguard, whom he hadn’t seen in a couple of years; not since he’d resigned and moved out of the country. Nathalie had mentioned that in his resignation letter, Gaspard said that he’d become involved in an overseas business venture involving the market of rare action figures. Nevertheless, Adrien couldn’t help but suspect that his father’s ill temper and poor treatment of their employees was the true reason for his departure.
Adrien’s first reaction was surprise and joy, and he rushed forward to greet and embrace him. However, as he approached and got a better look at the man’s face, Adrien’s mood instantly morphed into confusion and apprehension. There was something odd about his eyes.
Something wasn’t right. Why was Gaspard here? And why now?
He came to a halt about a meter before reaching him. An oppressive weight seemed to press in all around him, and he had to suppress a shiver. “Wait. Gaspard, did–” he gulped, “–did my father send you?”
His old bodyguard did not reply, but took a heavy step towards him. Adrien stepped back.
“Please… I can’t go back. I live somewhere else now, and I’m very happy there. Whatever he told you about the situation, it’s a lie.”
His bodyguard continued to approach him, his stare vacant and unsettling.
Fighting the urge to panic, he pleaded, “You don’t have to do this. If he’s offered you compensation, I can match it; it’ll just take me a bit of time. But we can work something out, right?? For old time’s sake?”
He continued walking backwards until he bumped into something firm, but it wasn’t a wall; it was another person. Before he could turn around, they grabbed him by the shoulders, detaining him and preventing him from running away.
He was about to shout for help when something sharp jabbed him on the side of the neck, injecting a cold liquid. Adrien’s eyes grew wide in terror.
Shit.
Adrien swore as he jerked away, elbowing whoever was behind him and managing to break free. Rubbing at the spot where the syringe had stabbed him, he glanced back to take a look at his other assailant, only to see... another Gaspard?
Why are there two of him??
This was wrong. Gaspard didn’t have a twin; he knew that for a fact. He’d worked for the Agrestes ever since Adrien was a toddler and was too young to even pronounce his name correctly (hence the nickname “Gorille”, which stuck around for years afterwards). Additionally, there was something uncanny, otherworldly, even, about the way these two men looked and moved.
He shook himself out of his stupor. He didn’t have time to contemplate any possible explanations. He had to get out of there fast.
He sprinted towards the exit, but only managed to travel a few paces before he lost his footing and tripped. He fell to the ground hard, almost hitting his head on a nearby bench. As he struggled to get up, he realized that his fingers and toes had already gone numb.
Not good.
Time was running out. Adrenaline coursed through him and, with a grunt, he hefted himself to his feet and scrambled towards the exit, as fast as he could despite a heavy limp. Though his heart was hammering and his legs felt like they were filled with sand, he pushed himself, concentrating on reaching the door.
After taking a few steps, however, he realized that even if he did manage to exit the locker room, the area beyond was an open courtyard. Meaning he wasn’t going to be able to reach someplace safe before getting caught. He had no choice but to transform into Chat Noir, and hopefully Plagg’s powers and strength could help him escape and find somewhere to hide.
He’d scarcely uttered the first syllable in the transformation phrase when he was tackled to the ground. A giant hand swiftly covered his mouth and Adrien felt his hands get bound together with thick zip ties behind his back. A muffled scream of writhing frustration made its way up his throat as his limbs became more and more useless by the second.
No… This can’t be happening! Please, this can’t be how it all ends!
Just when his life had finally gained a semblance of normalcy and he’d found happiness again, it would get ripped away and he would disappear without a trace, leaving everyone to wonder what had happened to him. Leaving his friends to think that Gabriel had pulled him from school and they would never see him again. Leaving Ladybug to wonder if Chat had abandoned her forever. Leaving her to fight Hawkmoth alone. Again.
He couldn’t let that happen. He thrashed and struggled as furiously as he could, fighting the feelings of overwhelming helplessness that threatened to consume him. Nearing despair, he was too distracted to notice Plagg phrasing through the wall, away from the skirmish, in search of the only person who could save him.
(Mood music: "Run" - Ludovico Einaudi)
Marinette fidgeted with her pencil, her feet wiggled and bounced under her desk. She didn’t understand; when she’d arrived at the art club, her head had been filled with inspiration and ideas that she’d been excited to draw and execute. However, at the moment, her mind was filled with noise and disquietude.
Having had enough, she excused herself to visit the restroom. Once she’d walked far enough from the classroom, she opened her purse to talk to Tikki about her current dilemma.
“It’s the same feeling as last night, Tikki! Except that would mean one of three possibilities. Option A.) It’s nothing and I’m going crazy. And— don’t give me that look, Tikki! I can see what you’re thinking and I don’t have time for your cheeky sass right now!” The kwami snickered while Marinette cleared her throat and continued, “Option B.) that Chat is here, at this school, which is impossible because his school’s on the other side of the city, that’s why he always leaves the house super early for his long commute.”
Tikki opened her mouth and looked like she was about to say something, but then didn’t (...or couldn’t?).
Marinette resumed, “Or, C.) that my–– what do I even call it? My ‘Spidey sense’??–– that it’s got a long distance mode, and Chat is all the way across Paris and he’s in trouble! But what am I supposed to do about that from here?! I wouldn’t even know where to begin looking!”
Tikki shrugged. “Follow your instincts, Marinette. There’s no harm in taking a quick look around the school, right?”
Marinette groaned. “UGH! It doesn’t make sense!! Am I going to get interrupted like this all the time from now on?” She shook her head resolutely. “No. I can’t just go off on random field trips every single time I feel a random fit of anxiety. I’m sure it’s just leftover jitters from last night. I’m supposed to call Master Fu after school anyway; he can help me figure everything out. I’m just gonna go back to class and forget about it.”
Tikki frowned, not quite convinced, but deciding not to press further.
Marinette made her way back to the classroom in a frustrated huff. But as her hand reached to turn the handle, the feelings of danger and urgency multiplied tenfold. Without a word, she sprinted away in the opposite direction, not even knowing where she was running to, only knowing she had to get there immediately.
She reached the large common area of the school downstairs. Her head whipped around, frantically searching for something, anything. In her haste, she didn’t notice a small black creature zoom into her open purse.
A few moments later, she felt a frantic tugging at her shirt from below.
“Marinette!! Over there! Check the locker room, quick!!!” Tikki whisper-screamed as she peeked outside the purse, her tone uncharacteristically frantic.
Marinette nodded, then sprinted to the locker room.
“Wait! You should transform first!” Tikki added.
No time!
“Marinette, wait!!”
Despite Tikki’s protests, Marinette raced towards the double doors, tackling them open.
Three sets of eyes landed on her as she skidded to a halt, but only one pair consumed her entire attention. She gasped in horror, hands flying to her face as she stared at what was occurring in front of her. Adrien let out a desperate, muffled scream urging her to run.
His panicked voice snapped her out of her dazed shock; but instead of running, she stood her ground, eyes darting back and forth across the area searching for something useful. The room was remarkably barren except for a lone broom a short distance away from her. She grabbed it and leaped towards the closest attacker (the one holding Adrien down), swinging it like a baseball bat.
The man didn’t even try to avoid the hit; the broomstick merely bounced off the side of his face where Marinette had hit him. She frowned in confusion, then tried hitting him again, bringing the stick down on the top of his head like an axe.
SNAP.
The end of the broom flew off, and Marinette stared in shock at the broken broomstick.
“What the hell are you?!” Marinette exclaimed, shifting her grip on the shortened wooden stub.
She pounced at the second bodyguard, bringing her weapon down in a stabbing motion; but he swatted at her hand, disarming her. She yelped in pain, leaping backwards to get some distance between them.
She was outmatched. The only strategy available was to use their own size against them. With a feint to the side, she shot at his legs for a takedown, hoping to catch him off balance. He called her bluff and shoved her backwards with his giant palm, then kneed her in the stomach.
Winded from the impact, Marinette doubled over with a gasping wheeze, fighting with all her might to keep herself from collapsing onto the ground. She forced herself upright and attacked again. With a clumsy jerk, she lunged forward, swinging wild punches at her opponent. The shots connected but his expression barely changed; it was like beating a breathing punching bag.
The bodyguard backhanded Marinette across the face. Pain shooting across her cheek, she staggered, almost losing her balance. In her daze, she watched helplessly as the man reared his arm back. There was no chance to dodge. His fist connected with her abdomen, delivering a liver shot that shut down her entire body. She crumpled to the floor as if boneless. She tried to call out Adrien’s name, but her mouth merely opened in a silent scream.
Marinette could hear Adrien’s distressed screaming, but it sounded distant, like they were underwater. The edges of her vision grew black and fuzzy, the entire room dissolving around her. She had to consciously force her lungs to inhale, but couldn’t fill them all the way, as if a boulder had been placed on top of her chest.
Faintly, she felt herself getting picked up off the ground and carried away over someone’s shoulder. Disoriented and semi-blinded, the sudden movement and rough jostling made her head spin and gave her vertigo. She gritted her teeth and squeezed her eyes shut, trying to block it all out.
A few moments later, they stopped moving, and she heard a door burst open. Where were they? Before she could gather her senses, she was in the air, thrown several meters away, landing with a hard thud. A sharp pain traveled down her body as she rolled into the wall across them. The shriek that tried to escape her throat emerged as a strained, shallow whine.
The man stomped out, leaving her alone in the room. “Stop…!” she rasped out, managing to tilt her neck upwards, head pounding.
The bodyguard slammed the door shut, followed by a bang and a clattering sound that could only mean he’d broken the doorknob of whatever room she was in.
Marinette's vision became more and more blurred. At the verge of losing consciousness, she fought to keep her eyes open as tears pricked at the corners of her eyes.
No, she couldn’t pass out! She had to save Adrien! Stay awake, Marinette, stay awake!!
She bit down on her lip hard, focusing on the sharp sting, on the swelling that was already forming around her right eye, forcing herself to feel the pain her body was in. At this moment, feeling pain was better than falling unconscious. She concentrated on her breathing, slowly regaining her senses.
She reached down to open her purse and get Tikki’s help… only to be met with emptiness. Panic settled in her gut as she realized that sometime during the skirmish, the purse had slipped off her shoulder. She sat up, slowly, so she wouldn’t risk feeling faint again from the change in positions.
She squinted, adjusting her eyesight to the darkness of the room. It seemed to be some sort of supply closet. After a failed few attempts to stand, she crawled towards the door instead, careful not to bump into the crates and shelves that filled the area.
The girl eyed the broken doorknob wearily. She was pretty proficient at lockpicking and breaking into things, but not as good at breaking out. Her only hope was that Tikki would be able to find her… if she was even nearby.
She swore to herself. Why had she rushed in and attacked two grown ass men (who, incidentally, may or may not be supernatural to boot!) instead of hiding and creating a strategy?! Now she was useless, Tikki was gone, and Adrien was surely on his way to get auctioned to the highest bidder in the criminal black market and ransomed off for an enormous sum. Great job, Marinette. Adrien’s been abducted and it’s all your fault.
Gathering all the determination she could muster, she tried to call out for help. But her voice was still too hoarse, and only a weak croak came out. She clenched her fists, grumbling irritably. Time for a different approach. Somehow, she needed to make noise.
After a brief search, she found a hard, metallic object that she could use to hammer on the door. She tested it out; it was surprisingly effective. She doubled her efforts, making as big a racket as possible. Hopefully, it would only be a matter of time before somebody heard her, let her out, and she could go find Adrien.
She couldn’t let anything else happen to another loved one. Not again.

Hi! I really like your posts on TDJ! I was wondering if you had any thoughts on what the other characters (ie Jinjoo, Soohyun, Elijah, Sun Ah, etc) think about Yohan and Gaon's relationship. Thank you!!!
Hii :3 and thank YOU! Yes, I do have some thoughts on it but a lot of them will change in later episodes and we can't be too sure. I'll do the ones you mentioned + Jungho and K.
Jinju -> Gahan:
Tumblr media
In the first few episodes, it seems that Gaon and Yohan don't get along well or like each other that much in front of her, specially Gaon. While Jinju herself is a fan and tries to mediate between them when the tension is high for the sake of their team. She believes they should talk, ask for help and trust each other in everything because they're in this together as work colleagues but slowly her opinions about Yohan and consequently Gaon changes when they both start to keep her out of their business and encounters. So right now she must see them as strangers who left her out and are on the same side, they represent a threat to her new ambitions and beliefs. A vision that has been and will be encouraged by Sunah.
Soohyun -> Gahan:
Tumblr media
Soohyun was very cautious and believed in the public opinion: besides Gaon being wary of Yohan, he is a powerful judge adored by the people, they shouldn't mess with him or doubt him. But after witnessing Yohan's other side when destroying the yellow car, she sees him in another light and get suspicious of him like Gaon. The difference is: she's determined that Yohan is the bad guy no matter what and that what everyone else says about Yohan is the truth even without proof but if it's Yohan saying it, they should be careful. Even when it does seem like Yohan has a good reason and could be innocent of what they're suspecting him, she thinks his ways of seeking justice are wrong and he's still bad.
In episode 8, when she questions Gaon for just stopping by at his own house but staying at Yohan's all the time, Gaon barely looks at her as he answers with an almost fond smile that he has someone to take care in there (Elijah and Yohan) and we can see Soohyun feeling troubled by that response. Gaon hasn't be telling her everything for a while now (ever since the hospital) and it seems that Gaon is having a change of heart with Yohan while keeping her out of it, so according to that and the tvN character description, she will continue to investigate Yohan and want to find out his secrets. She won't like their close relationship and the strange deaths that will appear around them. She's worried that Yohan could have brainwashed Gaon and is a bad influence to him. Which is kinda true but depends on your point of view, Yohan has been pretty straightforward with Gaon about his intentions and Gaon already had this thing inside him, Yohan just brought it back and out of him.
Elijah -> Gahan:
Tumblr media
She sass the hell out of them, sees them both as annoying and hates Gaon for resembling her father at first but then is slowly won over by Gaon's charm and motherly ways. She starts seeing him as a friend she never had and then even a family member when she worries/gets sad that he's not home and promotes him to ahjussi status like Yohan. Gahan is the bridge between Elijah and Yohan and Elijah and Gaon. Elijah is the same thing for them (the nanny included). I'd say she sees them as a parental figure but that's just my biased opinion :P Who knows? What I'm sure is that she thinks of Gahan as her only family left.
Sunah -> Gahan:
Tumblr media
She's been watching them since that donation party thing and could see how smitten Yohan is with Gaon, going as far as acting like his chaperone and showing Gaon his true intentions, the ugly truth behind their corrupt world. She doesn't waste time on using that information to get to Yohan and poison Gaon's already wary mind about him. Later, she does it again when trying to make it seem that Yohan was the one that hurt Soohyun so Gaon would lash out and be against Yohan. Gaon must be another one of her precious chess pieces for this whole game. She won't hesitate in using Gaon to get to Yohan and vice-versa. Gahan is the weakness and strength point of each other as well as a crucial opening to whoever wants to take them down and Sunah sees them as such.
Jungho -> Gahan:
Tumblr media
The reason for Gaon's suspicions in the first place. Jungho put Gaon against Yohan without a chance of thinking it over or meeting him with a clear mind. He wanted Gaon to be Yohan's Judas. Gaon investigates and gets closer to Yohan, his mind set on betraying Yohan in the end but then he falters and gets confused about what he's learning and seeing for himself. To the point it becomes painful and troublesome to think about choosing sides and betraying Yohan. Jungho keeps pressuring him to make a choice and in that conversation at Gaon's house when they're sitting on the ground around the table with Soohyun, Jungho is already aware of Gaon's behavior and words but still firm that Gaon has to do what he is told (give everything he has found out about Yohan) and continue to betray Yohan.
And then Gaon does make a decision but to Jungho's surprise, he didn't choose him. After everything Jungho did to discipline Gaon and give him that job, Gaon ended up being Jungho's Judas and not Yohan's. So that's what Jungho must think. I have a feeling he knew from early on that there was a big chance of this happening because of the person Gaon was in the past. But he was willing to risk it anyway and that was the result.
K -> Gahan:
Tumblr media
As Gaon is investigating Yohan and thinking he was "oh so subtle and smart", K was investigating Gaon before that and tracking his steps to see how much he would uncover about Yohan. K has a strong respect and loyalty for Yohan from what we have seen so far. Maybe Yohan is like a father figure to K after he lost his father (Yohan is helping him with it) and the closest thing to a best friend Yohan ever had. It seems to me that Gaon was just another job and problem in the way for K, but when he saw Yohan going as far as almost killing a man for hurting Gaon and letting Gaon get away alive with things others never would, if they had done it with Yohan, he reacts kinda like Soohyun. K questions Yohan like Soohyun did. "Then why are you doing this?" "I don't know. He related to me so much that I was a bit flustered. I've never experienced it before" after Yohan saying that, all distracted with a little smile, we can we see K's troubled and thoughtful face. It's when he realizes Yohan is also getting confused by Gaon and their closeness. Yohan wants to do anything he can to make Gaon work on their side so he doesn't have to hurt or kill Gaon.
✧・゚: *✧・゚:*
In conclusion, as we can see, all of them think of Gahan as some kind of threat, bad duo and their enemies that are stronger and dangerous together and quickly became close partners, be it friendly partners or more ;) haha as for K and Elijah, it's like "you're annoying but you became my second dad figure and made my other dad figure more bearable to be around and now I love you" and "you suck at this, but you're making my best friend more soft and happy, so I can accept your flaws and now your spot in our team".
I hope you liked it!
