What is the weirdest/ most unique way someone has gotten a job on the island? Either they met one of the crew in an odd way, or had a unique interview, or demonstrated an odd skill, anything really
Well, theres Holly, a 30-something year old woman who came here for a day visit with her girlfriend. She did not come here looking for work at all, had a job, was just having a little vacation. But every little normal type here seemed drawn to her. The rattata would ignore food to go see her, the Sentret would all perk up to chatter in her direction, all the Zigzagoon zoomed around her in a hectic fashion. This happened all day, i've not seen them behave like that before. Got to the end of the day and she was exhausted poor woman, they demanded her attention. So I caught her before she left and offered her work. The vast majority of the socially well adjusted normal types seemed to like her enough to listen to her, despite never have been introduced of meeting the woman prior to that day, she had a gift, though it went mostly unnoticed. She declined and left, no big deal, we got back to work.
A couple months later she returned. She'd lost her job, lost her partner, and didnt know what to do with her life, asking if the original job offer was still available. It was. To this day she works in the daycare sector, handling peoples pokemon who want to come in and have a break. No one can figure out why the normal types like her so much, but it's very useful, she's a great worker and a kind person, who just so happened to fall on some hard times. We're lucky to have her here, and since taking the job, she's gotten back on her feet, gained a partner pokemon, a sweet natured Indeedee who came to us with some injuries, and has since healed up just fine. If not her, then theres alwasy Len. He must be pushing 50 now, a huge guy, very quiet natured. He came here and quietly requested a fight with me, you know, the regular shpeal people like to try and win a favour now and then, though it'd been a while. I couldnt work out why he'd want that, but agreed. His only partner was a Spritzee, an unusual species for a guy like him, i'll admit, but at the time I thought nothing of it. We had our brawl, and I lost. he helepd me up, a good sport, and asked his favour. A job. I laughed and said he could have just applied like a normal person, we had openings at that point in time. He doubted his credentials, and thought his age wouldnt get him very far. He explained that his wife use to love Dotaku, they'd visit regulalry to see the seasonal shows, partake in festivals, the normal stuff. She loved pokemon, and he did not care much for them, had a huge indifference. But he learnt to love them through her, and built a joy later in his life for the critters. Well his wife passed away, and he was left not knowing where to go, or what to do. His job felt meaningless, his home empty, and her partner, that Spritzee, was depressed as all hell. He took a trip to Dotaku to try to cheer it up, and perhaps drag himself from his pit of depression, and found weird joy here. The island heals, it's a place of rest and growth. He felt that.
Turns out Len saw me fighting someone else on his visit, asking a member of staff about the reasoning for it, learning of the favour. He returned a year later for his match. The hairbrained scheme got him a job on the gardening team, no questions asked, and he's been a tireless worker, and strong force of good here since. He had to learn a lot on the job but took it with both hands and ran. He is happy, as is his wifes pokemon. Perhaps there was better ways to get the job but it worked for him, can't argue with that.

Got canon nonsense stuck brewing in my head. (read ramblings below)
Notably a big storm rolling in, staff have the place on lockdown, plenty of people have gone home before the boats stopped running between Dotaku and the mainland, its just the skeleton crew while this thing passes, enough to wrangle the pokemon and keep things safe. Peach hasnt been found most of the day, spotted darting between jobs, tying things down, securing windows, tripple checking the more dangerous mons in their areas, soothing those who struggle with the weather, feeding things, making sure the vulnerable types are safe, a list as long as her arm to tick through. Greys got his Gyarados pod on watch for those caught up in strong stormy waters, dragged too far out. Theres a whole host of cautions in place, sea defences, security to stop any pokemon getting lost. He's double checking the backup generators for the labs so the lights stay on and the sick mons have what they need. Plums out herding, the barns being filled with pokemon of all kinds, helping staff with gear, with saftey protocol, the tricky escape artists not getting past her tactical mind, working closely with a few who she's borrowed to speed the work up, Saxon the houndoom, one of Greys mons has kept her and her little rockruff company through this all as rain starts to hammer down.
Things seem fine, Plum and Grey get in, soaked through but from what they can tell, the place is going to hold just fine as the wind batters, throws branches at speed, rain pounding the mountains causing the odd mudslide. All pokemon safe, all staff accounted for...bar one. It gets late, dark, impossible for sound to travel outside, thunder and lightening frequent and harsh, Greys at the window with a hot drink, watching, waiting. Plum calms him, a gentle hand on his arm, assuring him she'll be fine. Peach is...well, she's tough. She's probably out sitting with a pokemon who's scared, they both know she'd do that without a second thought. Even Val is nervous however, a rare moment where she's not with her trainer, she'd been asked to help others in their jobs and lost track of her sometime around sunset.
Midnight. No chatter on the radios, no other staff have seen her, the weathers as bad as ever, serious storm, and by this point even Plums starting to pace a little. They cave, Grey gets Boa's dad, a large and old Garchomp, while the ranger calls for Missy, both given the task to go find the professor. They can handle the weather, dragons manage just fine, and so they both go out into the rain and think about where to start, just about to take off. Its that moment they all, humans included, val too, spot blue light between lightening strikes, Boa's dragonfire, way above in the coulds, her big dragon dad knows that anywhere and takes off towards it.
Above in the impossible weather they watch the blurred Orange of the charizard hybrid fall, catch itself, dodge and roll in air, trying to shake something, somethign so fast not even she can get away. Through the rain it was hard to see, Grey squints, Plums quick to rsh and grab some binoculars, both trying to track the impossibly fast moevement. On Boa's back is their idiot, in her arms a pokemon tucked up under her jacket, one arm holding it protectivley, the other holding onto the riding gear tightly. For a while they cant work out whats around, but Val sees, she's not looking close like the humans, she's spotting the bigger picture. What felt originally like a dark cloud is lit up by another flash of lightening, the sillouette of a legend, something so big and dangerous, it makes all the fur on the back of her neck stand on end instantly. Peach is attempting to outrun a Zapdos, something that had been spotted close a few months ago way out at sea, and seemed to be attracted to or even causing the storm they were currently experiencing.
The dont know what to do, but both spring into action to try to cause some commotion, distract it.
Peach had been working hard, riding back home to buckle down and wait the weather out. The huge form of this bird pokemon cut her route off, flew past without even acknowledging her or Boa, hovering as they both looked to it, watched it swoop, go to grab a tauros, miss and instead settle for the little Combusken with it. So small in its huge grip. Of course they had to do something, it was a trainers partner, it had loved ones and a family, it wasnt just some wild mon who was in the wrong place at the wrong time. Every fiber in their beings said 'dont chase this down' but they had to. Peach had to convince Boa to fly at it, they had to help. The zapdos was coasting casually, unbothered by the strong winds, be it because of size or power, the charizard having to work extra hard to catch up, stay the course, rain battering them both. A stealthy and tactical swoop from above it to below, one solid blast of dragon fire, and its grip loosneed. The Combusken fell, caught by the professor, and the attention was on them very quickly as it was tucked away under her jacket safely. The feeling of static as they flew away faster than ever before was enough to keep both trainer and rider on edge, hardly able to dodge the electrical blasts in time, a tail, an arm, caught now and then putting the fear of the gods in them both, a direct hit from that would be the end. They fell to try to double back fast, a big bird like that too large to make sharp turns, able to get a couple more hits in to try to deterr it. It was on the dive, cold stinging skin, near blinded from the rain that they squinted over, saw something coming in fast, and then another, and several more, at the very front of the pack Boa's dad, a whole pack of pokemon behind it, some charizard, skarmory, other garchomp, salamance, Missy, the gyarados pod. Enough fire power to push the legend back a moment, a barrage of attacks striking in various places. The rain however was making all parties vulnerable to electric attacks, and it was travelling well to connect to targets. It was a brutal fight, Peach didnt land, Boa's blood boiled with the sheer need to be part of the dragon assault, so they stayed up there, drove the damn thing away, defended the island. You can only imagine the worry Grey and Plum went through, watching from the ground with breath hitched in their lungs over the danger of the situation, they'd not seen one of these pokemon close like this, the island proxiity to the orange islands had its draw backs. When they all finally returned alive, it was heal-up time for the pokemon, Peach thanked them all, they worked so hard, didnt expect that kind of an incident, but they kept the island safe. If it wasnt for her loved ones, you know peach would have helped all the pokemon first, even though her damage was quite substantial.
She ignored the flood of memories she associated with the feeling of static, pushed them away, focused on the Combusken in her jacket who was crying like a baby, thinking it was a snack for sure. both Plum and Grey shed a few tears of worry, plum way more. The pokemon got rest, medicine, care and food, they did amazing. and finally she was able to hobble home and sit down. the severity of the situation hit, she struggled to sleep, needing to be held, between her two beloved people she for a second thought she may not see again at points. honestly I wanna draw some of this so bad, epic storm flights and cool lighting is a hook for me haha

Introducing the Masked Prosthetic Maker! - Kori Lychee and his partner Anubis!
Age: 20+ Profession: Custom Prosthetics Engineer Speciality: Fire/Dark Types Extras:
Immunocompromised to an extreme. Must wear specialized mask when in public for own’s safety. All staff has seen Kori’s face for security reasons. (Mainly photo graphs for the majority of staff, though Professor Grey and Professor Peach have personally seen Kori’s face)
Due to his rare immune disorder, must make monthly trips to the mainland for doctors appointments. His health is overall under control, however the monthly trips are for both testing, and to ensure no sudden surprises.
Does, in fact, have a special mask purely for formal events.
Anubis usually does not use his own prosthetic leg while on Dotaku. Tends to only wear it while traveling to the mainland.
Anubis is trained to notice signs of illness in Kori and “force” him to quarantine appropriately.
@prof-peach
Backstory Under The Cut! It’s super long I’m so sorry! There is likely lore inaccuracies as I wrote this at 3am with limited internet access! Aaaa!
Growing up in Alola, Kori was always a rather sickly child. Suffering from a rare immune disorder that left him vulnerable to illness. His parents elected to get him a companion.
As his family was from Johto and were fire type specialists by trade, his mom asked his grandmother if she could send over a houndour egg. Agreeing, happy to help her grandchild in any way she could being so far away, she did so as soon as possible.
The houndour egg arrived safe and sound. Kori’s mother, Lila Lychee, made sure to keep a close eye on Kori as the egg developed. Though Kori was around the age most kids got their first pokemon, she wanted to be safer than sorry just in case.
Luckily, no true incidents occurred during the egg’s development time. At least, until it started to hatch. Little Kori had no true idea what was going on, so he ran to his mom and dad with the egg in tears, thinking something was going wrong.
His parents were quick to calm him down, explaining that this was a good thing. His new friend was about to meet him after all! Wiping away his tears, he plopped down onto the ground with the egg in his lap, watching as the cracks in the shell began to form and a soft yapping could be heard from the inside.
Crack.. crack.. poof! The egg split open in a small burst of flames that went out in an instant. Kori fell backwards recoiling from the sudden heat, blinking as he looked up at his parents with wide eyes before looking back at where the egg was in his lap.
There, in the remaining shell that hadn’t charred, was a small houndour. Sitting back up quickly, he looked amazed at the pokemon. The baby pokemon yawned and looked around at its surroundings with a curious excitement before finally locking eyes with Kori.
“Hi..” Kori whispered, he was never a very loud child. Barely being able to speak at what was considered a normal volume half the time.
The houndour yapped at him excitedly, standing up on its hind legs to try to play. Only to fall over due to not.. exactly having the best motor controls at that moment. Kori quickly rushing to help the pokemon back up, gently holding it.
From then on, the two were inseparable. The houndour eventually gaining the name Anubis. They went on many adventures, most commonly in Kori’s backyard, however sometimes they would wander into the Lush Jungle not too far away.
Most commonly, their adventures would be uneventful save for the random caterpie encounter. At least.. until one day that luck turned sour quickly.
They were off to their usual bout in the jungle, looking for anything of note. The two decided to wander a bit further than they usually went that day, after all! They were an unstoppable duo, were they not?
They were not, indeed. As a rather disgruntled pinsir soon proved to them. In the end, they made it out alive. However in protecting Kori from being mauled, Anubis’ back leg took a heavy, heavy beating.
Rushing him to the nearest pokemon center, in the end his leg would need amputated as it would likely never heal correctly and only cause him more pain later in life.
It broke Kori’s heart, seeing his best friend being rushed into the back room of the center. His parents had finally made it to the center and crowded around him, doing their best to comfort the sobbing boy.
Anubis was kept at the center for a week and a half for observations, in that time Kori was researching any way he could help his friend. Finding out about prosthetics, his fascination with them was truly sparked and from that day forward, he swore he would dedicate his life to its research and development.
Fast forward a few months, his parents decided maybe it would be best to move back to Johto. As Kori’s health, while getting better, wasn’t nearly what it should be for a boy his age. Even despite his disorder. The stress of Anubis’ injury tanked his slow recovery to the point that even the best doctors in Alola were stumped as to how to treat him.
So, back they went. Moving in with his grandparents temporarily, Kori was on bed rest most of the time as his strength tanked along with his health. Anubis refusing to leave his side the entire time.
Over the next couple of years, the two would grow up. Despite his family being specialists, they weren’t exactly well off and couldn’t really afford to get Anubis a prosthetic leg along with Kori’s medical bills.
So, Kori decided to improvise. Using what scraps he could find in his grandpa’s garage, he built Anubis a new leg. The first couple of tries didn’t really work, and kind of fell apart when Anubis took them out for a test drive, but progress was being made!
Over time, Kori’s tinkering abilities flourished under the teachings of his grandpa, and soon he decided it was time for him to officially go to medical engineering school! Only.. problem was he couldn’t exactly attend..
You see while his health did level out over the years, he was still extremely vulnerable to a very wide range of illnesses. He had been tinkering with the idea of making his own masks, as standard face masks were great but they only did so much. Deciding to throw caution to the wind, he began designing his first mask. Modeled after his life time best friend, Anubis, who had by this time evolved into a full fledged Houndoom.
It.. took a lot of trial and error to find the right combinations of materials that would keep him safe and allow him to live comfortably. The biggest downside however was the fact that every school he applied too, even ones outside of Johto, rejected him.
On the brink of giving up his dreams, Kori heard rumors about an island just off the coast of Johto where the lost causes of the pokemon recovery world would go. There! He knew it! That was his calling!
It seems throwing caution to the wind is his trait, as he sent an application as soon as physically possible too.
And then he waited. And waited. And waited. Pacing his room with Anubis laying on his bed. The dark type letting out soft woofs to try to get his friend to calm down, but to no avail. Once Kori was riled up there was little calming him down.
It took almost a week before he finally heard anything back and... He had an interview! Oh gosh, the noise he made when he saw the email would have made a chatot’s ears ring. At least, it made Anubis’ as the houndoom pawed at his ears in response.
Whipping around, Kori announced that Anubis and him needed to figure out how one books a ferry ride! And by him and Anubis, he meant him as only one of them had thumbs!
Anubis, in response, rolled his eyes and subsequently rolled onto his side for a nap. Kori excited was one thing, but this was too much adulthood for the houndoom to deal with at the moment.
Kori quickly got to work buying the soonest ferry ticket to Dotaku Island and well. The rest is sort of history.
The two ended up moving to the island full time, in the end. Though they make monthly trips back to the mainland for Kori’s doctor appointments. The two are very happy there. Kori works full times on custom prosthetics for a wide range of pokemon, though his favourites will always be fire and dark types. Anubis meanwhile works as an ambassador when he’s not Kori’s shadow.
Though weirdly enough, Anubis almost never uses his prosthetic leg while on Dotaku. It seems he only uses it when they travel to the mainland.
Kori’s masks have caused some worry for passers by. However, for security reasons, all of the staff have seen Kori’s face just in case. Whether in person or photos. (mainly photos, honestly)

((So I made this a while ago actually, but with all the people staffing @prof-peach’s Dotaku Island with their OCs, I suppose its time to do something with this blog more than reblog furrets.))
Azure isn’t a permanent resident or staff member of Dotaku Island, however she spent some time on the island when she was going through Ranger training, where she met and was lucky to be chosen and found a match for a very excitable little bulbasaur named Bubbles.
Azure’s partner pokemon, her starter, is Lookout, who started as a sentret and is fond of wearing a bandana, a common signifier of a ranger’s partner pokemon.  His perception skill is off the charts, and even though he looks very soft do not try to fight him, he doesn’t start fights but he will finish them.
Azure is actually stationed in some of the deep forests on Hoenn, where she protects wild pokemon habitats where pokemon can go and live with minimal contact from humans.  Its a bit like the north side of Dotaku, though without quite so many violent and possible formerly abused residents. Azure has to spend quite a lot of time there alone so unlike many rangers she is allowed a full team and not all need to be native to the region she protects, as she can responsibly care for them and minimize their impact to the local ecosystem.
She vacations every summer on Dotaku, revisiting Peach, who’s former history as a ranger is a bit legendary among Azure’s peers, and Grey whose work with injured pokemon and devices and rehabilitation is fascinating to Azure. She has many friends on the rest of the team and this yearly visit also lets Bubbles go visit her father, a very human-averse Venusaur that lives on the north side of the island.  Azure does NOT go in there, but Bubbles seems to come and go without any difficulty from the North Side residents.  She is very tough, and so is her father.
Blossom was a rescue that Azure picked up as an eevee from a rough situation when she was helping law enforcement in Slateport with a Ranger-related issue. Heartfire joined her when Azure was still in training and she was doing a tour with some fellow rangers of Kalos.  Buttercup is a Hoenn Deep Woods native who joined Azure very recently.  Azure has a satellite link to communicate over the internet, and Heartfire makes repeated journeys to nearby pokemon centers to pick up snail mail, packages, and supplies.  She’s happy to answer any questions about being a ranger that anyone has, and use her voice to educate people about pokemon and safe human-pokemon interactions.
((I think I’ve opened asks on this blog?  HMU if you are interested in: Pokemon Rangers Furrets Ecology Habitat Preservation I might also use this blog to post things from my PTU campaign once my players have seen those things, so general pokemon concepts, PTU battle maps, NPC tokens and stats, and information about my homebrew regions The Four Rivers Peninsula.  So.  Follow and interact if you like Pokemon I guess, and occasional Pokemon Art.  Happy to be part of the Team.))

Ive been recently inspired by @prof-peach and all her wonderful fans to A) start my own new blog about pokemon (coming soon) and B) introduce you to my own OC. Sadly I am artistically challenged but, I can write a hell of a sentence when I need to so, here we go.
Sam Weir was born in Pallet town, raised in Vermillion city and spent her summers visiting her grandparents farm outside Pallet town.
Pokemon were the biggest part of her childhood, helping feed the various herds on the farm, playing in the ocean with friendly wild water types, climbing trees to hangout with the flying types, getting chased by angry Spearow.
It was almost a given that she would grow up to be a trainer but instead of joining the group of ten year olds who went out on their first Pokemon adventures Sam decided to finish school first and spend a few years helping her family, which meant she didnt set out until she was nineteen.
Leaving Pallet Town was the hardest thing Sam had ever done but, with her new Bulbasaur partner Bronx at her side she set out and never looked back.
Now at thirty-five Sam is a League Champion many times over and her Pokemon teams have their names in Hall of fames across the world.
An accomplished trainer with gym badges and league trophies lining her shelves Sam returned home a few years ago because of her grandparents failing health and when they sadly passed away she inherited the farm.
Wanting to do more to help her local community, both human and Pokemon, Sam used her winnings and inheritance to expand and build a rescue center on the farm.
After gaining a grant and funding from the government as well as solid endorsement from both Professor Oak and Professor Elm, the Pallet Town Pokemon Rescue and Rehoming center was born.
Since then they've had to expand the center and staff, consisting of Sam's Roommate Erin who lives in the old family farm house, as Tech-guru and all around tech savvy genius, Becca, a pokemon nurse Sam met on her travels through Kalos and who was thrilled at the idea of joining the team. Aiden, Pokemon breeder and groomer who has more fashion sense in his little pinky than the rest of the team has in their whole cupboards and Amber, the night manager who specialises in tough to handle pokemon and is pretty handy with all things, well, handy.
This core team is supplimented by locals who are always willing to lend a hand, young up and coming trainers looking to get some hands on experiance and an Older resident everyone knows simply as Granny who lives for gardens and grass/bug types, shes always seen pottering around the farmhouse sprucing up the gardens and enjoys lavishing attention on any pokemon she comes across.
The center always encourages trainers looking to learn more about their grass types to visit Professor Peach and her Amazing island and Sam is a regular visitor, since her home is pretty much right on the border with Johto its not too much of a journey for her, picking some of her own pokemon that might need a bit of a break she usually visits for a couple of weeks, camping out and relaxing and just taking in the chill atmosphere.
When shes not chilling with her own pokemon she can be found at the Battle areas supervising matches and helping young trainers hone their skills. She might not be a regular member of staff but shes around often enough to be classed as a volunteer and is always happy to lend a hand where ever it might be needed.
Bronx, her original partner and oldest friend can usually be found somewhere nearby, now fully evolved and a chonk of a boy, he spends most of his time sunbathing or gathering a small following of young grass types who use him as play equipment while he naps.
Sam doesnt keep a regular roster of six with her anymore, most of her pokemon live on the grounds of the rescue center which is huge and straddles the border of Johto and when she visits Dotaku island she usually just brings those who need a holiday or who want to visit with friends they've made but Bronx is pretty much always with her when she visits, so are her two companion pokemon a brown and grey varient coloured Mightyena named Hudson and an Espeon named Biscuit.

Are Peach, Grey and/or anyone else on the island able to play a musical instrument? If so what can they play?
Peach never had the time to learn an instrument, she does not mind, has her painting and that keeps her plenty calm and busy.
Grey played drums as a kid but life moved on and he did too, hasn’t played in a long time now.
Pari knows how to play piano apparently, though no one’s heard her do it.
Plum plays trumpet. Well. Very well. Annoyingly well.
Pretty sure there’s loads of staff who can play instruments, but there’s 40-50 staff and I’d not be able to reference them easily right now haha.

What's a happy adoption story that's occurred on the island? Conversely, what's one of the worst adoption attempts seen?
All adoption stories have a lot of joy in them for us at Dotaku, but I suppose one or two stand out.
We had a seemingly lost and quite old Mawile handed in to us, clear care put into their lifestyle, it's teeth were in good condition for its age, it had no illness, clear and soft skin, creeping joint aches but it was to be expected for the pokemon age, but it had no pokeball, so no trainer ID to return them to.
We expected someone to come for it, we even put out posters on the mainland to help find its trainer, but no one came forward. We eventually posed the topic of rehoming to the pokemon and it firmly refused, we did not bring it up again. This pokemon would sit every time people came off the boats at the dock as if waiting for someone, and each time would walk away dissapointed.
Five years passed, it had never given us trouble, was well behaved and kind in nature, even partook in plnety of island events with time, became one of the permanent fixtures here.
And then out of the blue, an old woman turned up with her grandson, visitors. We were made aware of the dimensia she was living with just in case she wandered off, and catered to it no problem. Staff report that she walked around without issue, enjoyed the grounds just line anyone else, until that is, she spotted this one Mawile, and the pokemon saw her, the two had a moment of recognition.
Theyre both in tears as soon as they reach eachother, the Mawile ran for this woman, we didnt know if it was hostile or not at first, but nope, there as a big hug shared and progressive tears. The grandson filled us in that his grandma use to have a partner but came from a village that just lived with pokemon, no balls, no fancy items, just a mutual choosing. But the Mawile had been stolen by a young trainer passing through years ago, with no pokeballs to stop the capture process, the boy assumed someone caught the pokemon and left with it, seperating the pair. It was kind of the one thing his Grandma would always look for in her later years, forgetting that she'd lost her beloved partner, becoming increasingly worried repeatedly as her illness worsened over the years. It caused a lot of grief.
we can only assume the pokemon got free or released, and was handed in to the island as a "difficult case" due to its reluctance to listen to others.
The woman went home with her pokemon, reunited after 5 long years apart, it brought a tear to plenty of the staff's eyes thats for sure.
On the opposing end we've had plenty of shady folk come in and try to adopt from us, but theres a few measures we put in place when were suspicious. I dont discuss the security precautions we apply in these cases to hide the pricess and keep the pokemon and staff safe here.
Despite this, one or two slip the net on rare occasion, it happens, were not perfect. One that stays with me was a woman who came in to look for a partner, making all the best attempts to charm a quite fantastic little Treeko, a rare variant with fantastic leopard markings. She was forthright and seemed ordinary, we went through our regular security checks and nothing came up on her ID, figured it was a fine match. So she went through the process of adopting, staff saw no red flags. I kick myself now, if i'd been around her with Val we could have stopped this, but i'd been too busy with other jobs to oversee that particular case.
She leaves with the pokemon, and we're none the wiser, but anyone who knows us, knows we do home visits after adoption to make sure a pokemon is happy and well. usually 3 within the year. Some of our staff turn up to an abandoned building, no pokemon, no people, nothing. The hunt began, Grey was quick to try to see if the pokemons ID had been pinged at any pokecentres, but nothing came up. We kept looking, and called in some favours at the local ranger bases and police stations to watch.
Eventually someone spots the woman in question, two regions over in Hoenn, selling eggs. She got pulled over for trafic violations while driving and got flagged. I went over personally to see what was going on, and turns out she was illegally breeding rare species to sell for huge money. The treeko was in BAD condition by this point, we took it back along with two dozen or so eggs, another Sceptile, and a pair of shroomish with unsual patterns that were on their last legs. She was taken to court for cruelty charges and served time.
The pokemon however were fine in the end, took some time to rehabilitate them, but they still hang around the island, that experience was traumatic for them so they choose to stay with us for saftey sake. We have no issues with this, and have since tightened our security checks. The womans trainer ID was a fake, a really convincing one, we messed up. It's cases like that that'll push us to all do better however, we learned a lot, and hold onto those failures to push forward in a better way.
Just glad the pokemon survived and are now healthy and happy.

It is a rainy day on Dotaku, most shelter under awnings and sit watching the weather from cosy positions in cafes, frequenting the arcade by the docks, and wandering the greenhouses to dodge getting wet. You however have found your way out to a pitched marque with a handful of pokemon inside, one somewhat gloomy looking member of staff with them handing out treats. The staff member wears a zip up Dōtaku green jacket, only noticing you after a moment, a middle aged man with a rounded shape and kind eyes, one thick moustache hiding his top lip but yuo can tell he smiles.
"Come to make a new friend today? We''ve still got two trouble makers searching for the right match, maybe one would suit you. Would you like me to tell you a little about them?"
You nod, eyeing the four, two of which ocming more forward with looks of intruigue.
You're not unfamilair with bulbasaur, this one however looks very unusual, its bulb is no bulb at all, complexion far lighter, with the brightest eyes watching you. "This little lady was hatched right here on Dotaku, but she lacked what give bulbasaur their energy, not having been hatched with the seed that grows to be the typical heafty bulb on their backs. It wasnt an issue, happens from time to time, and so the Professor planted one within them, and put them in recovery. We had a freak power cut and the containment unit that had her in it was breached by Morelull spores. They took hold in the fresh surgery area, and when her bulb started to grow, it came out like this. Peach has checked her over a hundred times, and she shows no adverse issues other than being less tolerant of direct sun, and a little more active towards the end of the day and night time. She's jolly, sweet and curious, but quite young, so she can be a little naive about things. She shows a lot of talent with spore attacks, but struggles with more phyical moves. In time she may prove a very functional contest pokemon should she like that lifestyle." Moving along the line, more at the back chewing on a rather destroyed toy is an Aron with darker metal than normal, and more spikes than youre use to seeing.
"He was brought in with several dents, and substantial damage, this little bruiser despite being sick at the time was picking fights with things ten times his size. The dents were buffed out where possible, he shed chunks of his shell, and regrew in tough as ever with time. None of his damage was long lasting, and when asked wether he wished to return home, he decided travel was a better choice for him, seeing many visitors battling at the island inspired him I suppose. They do very well with steel tying and struggle with their usual rock moves, so we'd advise against pushing them down that route if they're not comfortable doing so. He has a fondness for Sour foods and likes a lot of pampering, though he may seem bashful about this at the start. Buffing their shell up so it shines will bring out a very pleasent disposition in this critter, so we advise you keep a cleaning set on hand for those days when its rainy or theres a lot of fights ahead. He mixes well with others, but can be a bully to weaker constitution mons, so keep an eye on them. We nicknamed him ‘Chunky' but he has no real affinity for the name, so feel free to discuss a pick a new one."
Next along, sitting directly in the centre of the table, so you couldnt possibly miss it, a curly tailed feline looking pokemon.
"This ones Belladonna, a real diva. Her old owner spoilt her rotten, and her behaviour got out of hand because of it. She's since been retrained and the naughty personality traits have been reeled in to a more managable level. She has become well behaved with other pokemon, socilising shouldn't be an issue now, she shows a great enjoyment of walks, but will not roughhouse, soexercise with her should be very heavily based around play and games more than battling. She loves a brush, loves to be doted on, and may weaponise her cute apperance, so dont let her get the better of you, clear systems and rules in place with reward when followed is key to her not taking full advantage of you. She has a good heart, just takes a little while for her to warm up to you."
The final one in the line is a cacnea that looks like its been stretched in a taffy puller, who sits with its little legs swinging off a crate.
"And finally that little man is perfectly healthy, happy, and otherwise well adjusted. He was brought in because someone thought there was something wrong with him, there isnt, he's just tall. His variant type has been seen working in tandem with ranchers in hotter climates to manage pokemon herds, their evolutions can see all around for a fair distance, and srve as rgeat guards, towering over their normal counterparts. He's got a real level head on him, and should grow to be a fantastic friend. He loves spicy foods, and tends to put others before himself alot, so make sure to give them dedicated time and space to maintain their health and happiness."

How does a typical choosing event happen when a new trainer comes to Peach for their first Pokemon? Can someone adopt one of her rescue pokemon?
The island offers its sevices MOSTLY to older trainers, handing pokemon to kids has never really been the islands MO. It's not off the table, but also not the point of the facility, as many other more easily accessible locations cater to children. Most pokemon on Dotaku have pre-existing conditions, injuries, or behavioural ticks that need adjusting to, not all of course, but a good majority, so handing them to kids just isnt always so viable.
The island has two adoption days each month, scheduled where pokemon looking for a partner can dress up, staff usually get the resident groomers to give everyone a once over, and humans looking for mons are encouraged to come along for the day and take a peak. It is not very formal, a lot of games and events, food vendors and the likes. Staff work overtime to make sure people know about each pokemon, any really special or difficult mons will stick with one of the professors, and they'll explain their needs or personlaity type to interested parties. If nothing else its a very fun day out, where you get to meet a bunch of pokemon!
It's not a case of picking one out and being done with it, some pokemon require home visits before being OK'd for adoption, to make sure you have the right space and items in place to make for a good home. Other smaller pokemon can be adopted on the day, proven that you show a base level of knowledge for caring for living things. These tests are carried out by staff, be it a field worker, lab assistant, or a professor, and if you pass, you pay a small adoption fee, sign some papers, and the process is began. If you fail, you are given the option to reserve the pokemon, so no one else can come and adopt them, and return to take the test again once you are better prepared. This is usually only aplicable for up to a month. It gives people time to get ready for a new friend in their lives too.
Classes are offered to those looking to improve their level of care, and staff insist on these classes with some cases, especially children. in the case of a child finding a partner, we ask that parents come and discuss with us the quality of care that can be provided at home. Without an adult guardian, no child under the age of 16 can adopt from us, to spare pokemon any inadequate living conditions.
There is one golden rule that does dictate a lot of decisons made: Is the pokemon going to be happy?
If a pokemon does not like you, does not want to be adopted by you, is nervous about you, or shows any hesitation, their needs will come above and beyond that of the humans. We have no issue refusing an adoption based on a pokemons opinion, but people are welcomed to return, and try to form a stronger bond with an individual who is open to it.
Should you find a good match, pass our tests, and have adequate resources to care for a pokemon, then with some paperowork, youre free to leave with your buddy. Follow up visits will occur several times within the year to check see that each pokemon adopted out is happy and well cared for. You become an official member of the Dotaku labs clientel, can call for support, bring in any buddies for check ups, and our services are available to you should any illness or issue arise.

Having real fun reading through the backlog of the blog.
I keep wondering if this is the kind of place my trainer would randomly book a tour to. She requires her chair for regular locomotion but has been working on getting a more versatile model. She can be carried by most of her team but would much rather roll herself.
I can't imagine a lot of the island has easy paths for wheelchairs though. That said, she did manage the Hoenn region, though Sinnoh and its unreasonable amount of mountain defeated her. Do you think anyone knowing her physical limitation would try and talk her out of coming?
I can also picture her seeing Peach wrestling a 'mon and pointing it out to her Machoke, going "I told you I wasn't the only one!"
She is also pleased by the don't-send-10'yo's-on-their-own stance. She went through an academy that taught much the same skills (when her parents couldn't talk her out of wanting to do her trainers' journey) and left at 16 with two pokemon, a treeco who picked her, and a Machoke from the school who wanted to make sure such a student was ok.
The Island prides itself on being accessible, theres ramps everywhere, elevators in any buildings allowing public access to higher floors, the hotel is its own buisness but accomodates for this too, rentable mons who can help folks around, and almost everywhere is wheelchair acessible, including any doors being power assisted.
Not only do we at Dotaku deal with A LOT of footfall, we handle a lot of older clientel above and beyond the youngsters, and to top it off, pokemon with disabilities move around the different locations too. The island caters to that, you can even get up to the top of the mountain for the view if you wish, it's been carefully carved out and planned so anyone can visit and have relative ease getting about, though we do advise anyone going up that hill with mobility issues at the vesy least take a pokemon with them to aid should they become tired. We have plenty that are happy to help if visitors dont have a pokemon strong enough too.
You can book a tour with any facility individually if you like, or do a day tour. We have staff leading them regularly, giving visitors informed details about various pokemon and locations. Or, if you prefer to venture alone, its all acessibe and open to the public. There are some buildings of limits but those are clesrly sign posted and overseen by staff and pokemon to make sure no one wanders in and gets hurt, ot ends up in a secure area they shouldnt be.
Dotaku is just one big island park, catering to all. Phone the head office for further details, we have great members of staff always ready to help clear up any questions you may have, and you can even book any specific events ahead of time.
During the summer we have cook outs, independant vendors with hand made trinkets, the kite flying festival which is quite something to watch if not partake in, the migration of the swellow that'll come by, theres lapras sightings this time of year cose to the shores, and at the end of summer the Jumpluff move off the island to go inland for more tame weather, quite a beautiful sight to see so many catching the wind to go home, usually I'll fly with them to the mainland so its a good time to see a handful of dragon types on guard duty. Theres a fair where you can buy local produce, partake in friendly battles to earn some neat reward items, three contests, one for beginners, one is a costume one anyone can enter, and the other is more professional for those who want a challenge, each judged by telented guests who come in from all over. If you need a break our daycare can offer your pokemon respite, theres a groomers on site so a new hairdo might be on the cards too, or just a massage to ease tension. Water based sport is avaiable, with small canoes, boats and gear available to rent if that appeals. Theres the odd talk on pokemon care from our experts, and opportunities to ask questions and dig deeper into some of the pokemon the island handles. Dont forget the dock side fair, if you just want to eat junk food and play some arcade games with your pokemon, more than reasonable to take time for that, grab lunch at the cafe, or just chill out and watch the waves while listening to the Dewgong laid out on the rocks.
On wednesday you can challenge the professors, staff and rangers, we try to give an evening to guests who want to battle us for the fun of it, but none of us use our core teams for saftey reasons, and will pick pokemon based on whoever is close at hand and willing, could be anything. If you win you can get a ribbon bangle, which some enjoy collecting much like badges, though they hold no weight in the league.
Other staff are more than free to fight with their true teams, so predicting their strategy may be easier, but I never will, and will refuse a proper battle with my core group should someone request it, I say this now to save any dissapointment.
I'm sure you'd see me from time to time, but summer is the busy month, plenty to do, so don't mind me if im run off my feet, I do try to show face whenever possible but work comes first. Best bet is to keep your eyes on the skies, youll see the flash of orange and yellow of my dear charizard Boa ferrying me around, and probably get a sense of where I may end up in the day. If you spot Val wandering around, I suggest NOT trying to pet her, many have made this mistake, many have been bitten. Every localised sign has stickers on them reminding people of specific pokemon not to approach or pet. She's on every sign.
Any visitor is given a saftey breifing, and all areas have signs for people to see the rules, as some locations dont allow flash photography, loud noises, or touching of the pokemon.

Has anyone ever gone up to Peach to just shake her hand and be like "You're badass and your work here is incredible. Thank you for everything you and the Dotaku team do."
Because I think she deserves it if she hasn't already gotten it!
Yeah she gets it sometimes, its about the only form of contact shes fine-ish with, at least its brief.
Though she will always say its totally the team, its the staff and, the pokemon, their collective dedicated hard work, not her. She's just able to put them on a platform where their skills totally shine, its why Dotaku works so well.
Praise seems to sit weirdly with her, in her mind she's not doing enough, but people try to get through her thick skull sometimes.
Your best bet is sending a letter. She opens them all, and they get pinned to the main labs waiting room wall on a huge pinboard. Its bascially full now but she'll find a way to fit more. Letters of people saying thanks in one way or another. She likes those, doesnt say it but really enjoys hearing folks and their parters went on to be healthy and happy together. bout the only form of praise and/or reqard that seems to matter to her.

Hi,
I'm making a dnd campaign with a pokemon module of 5e and wanted to use a bit edited version of Dotaku Island, Prof. Peach and the crew cause I like your headcannons and work nice with my idea of the inner workings of the Pokemon world.
Is it okay to use them?
It's a campaign with friends and we're not making any profit from it, but still wanted to ask cause now more than ever artist consent is important (even when nothing about this is goong online so normally people woukdn't ask, but I also wanted to say I've been a huge fan of your work for a long time so two birds with one stone ig).
Either way, thanks for showing your work to us here on tumblr and hope this ask isn't too weird :)
Haha sure go for it, I’m chill with non-profit use, and if you ever do post junk let me know so I can snoop.
Fun notes for anyone who may be inclined to do this: THESE DO NOT NEED TO BE USED NOR FOLLOWED, PICK AND CHOOSE IF YOU PREFER.
North is off limits, no exceptions. Being caught there will get you removed from the island on the first ship back to your original region. You will struggle to return here if found in the north. Patrols line the fences to make sure no one goes in, night and day.
Players will take damage if they try to touch peach in any way. Treat her as a high level monk/Druid, who 1000% will throw hands with u and your Pokemon given a good reason. Cold and distant to approach, pawns players off to other staff at any given opportunity. A hermit who will humour you if you can appeal to her better nature, or great desire to fight things. You may lose but it’s the trying that counts.
Wisdom saves (DC28) with Val if you try to touch her. Not only will you gain force damage if you succeed (half damage) or fail (full damage) to lay hands on her, but you’ll see horrifying illusions for a minute relating to loved ones. Frightened condition until a long rest, compelling you not to approach further. I cannot stress this enough. Penalise players for trying to touch her, peach will bluntly warn you once, after that you’re on your own.
Grey regularly hands out handy snacks that may help heal or buff teams. He is warm and open, a good person to approach for hints and tips. Notably found in his labs or out running errands, he’s always kind and gentle, unless that is you threaten his home or his loved ones in a severe way. He is scarier than peach when he’s pushed too hard.
Plenty of staff roam around to offer aid or information, ranging from gardeners, cleaners, shop staff, and specialist keepers who maintain the visitors sections.
A groomers, cafe, food stands, daycare, small fairground with rides and games, a hotel, lighthouse, port, greenhouses and of course multiple lab and practical spaces exist, amongst other interesting buildings.
The resident ranger can offer assistance but she is known to stay quite busy, and so getting her attention may prove difficult if it’s a trivial issue.
Adoption zones are the only approved areas to catch Pokemon, and even then it’s a process that requires a test and paperwork, so everyone involved is able to provide adequate care to the mons in question, and so they know any pre existing conditions.
The islands purpose is recovery, so human needs come in second. The Pokemon will always come first, a fact some visitors may have issue with. The staff will not care and continue to do their job without concern for this.
Year round events make the island busy and people are welcomed to join in with whatever’s going on, be it chilli cooking contests, fairs, pageants, board rental for the sweet ocean waves, or watching a migration pass by. There’s always something to do!
This is all optional, just have fun with it, and I hope your players enjoy! If they ask about it, redirect them to the blog so they can dive on into the content.

Greetings Professor. Apologies if this has been asked before, but how did you discover Dotaku Island? It seems like the only maps of Johto that show it are the ones your labs provide.
Well, Dotaku technically falls out of all other regional jurisdiction in terms of laws and cartography, it was a bit of a no mans land for a while, but the closest large region is technically Johto, so for ease and directions, we tend to tack our island to those maps so people can find us should they wish to visit. Also, we do a lot of trade with Johto, so it just seems like the most natrual fit.
We did not discover it, it was well documented but unused as a public location due to its distance from other well trafficked areas. The terrain was harsh, the weather difficult, and there was a distinct lack of pokemon, save for a handful who inhabited the space who did not have a need for solid foods. Being far from everythign made building pretty difficult too, so no one really wanted to make a move to the place.
There are ruins of a small village that once lived here, and graves which we have left undisturbed. We've had it all studied by historians when we first moved here with accordance to Johoto preservation laws. All data has been documented, and the island itself was apparently once a small stronghold during times of war in the past. The remians of the dwellings and history have been perserved, and visitors are free to read and examine the exhibits at their own leisure. We have one resident historian who gives lectures and tours on this subject matter, as none of the professors are suited to that kind of work. We stumbled across the maps of this place while searching for a location to host our studies, and it met all of our criteria, give or take.
We applied for the space through several legal channels, and put a bid in to invest time and money to create a rehabilitation sanctuary, and isolated retraining program, hosting studies from the islands location, and maintaining its history and ecosystem.
The board of education managed to convince several other concerend individuals that our program was worth investing in, and we we're awarded the location to use as a base for our buisness. It did not come without a large investment of money on our part, and we had to meet a lot of dealines and targets to keep the place in our name, but so far, every visitation we get from the authorities, theyre happy with what we're doing work wise.
It was not a case of us finding and staking claim to the space, we had to apply for grants, prove our studies were worth while, and maintain that level of research and professionalism to this day. Now the islands been established for a number of years as a public tourist desitnation as well as a research facility, we've been elevated to the title of 'reserve' meaning the island is protected legally, even if the lab was to be shut down for whatever reason. The pokemon here will always be safe thanks to the combined efforts of the regions around us seeing our value as a facility, our lawyer Carl who is a star and has navgated the paperwork like a boss, and the hard work of all our staff who keep the place in great condition means we can make enough money to do our jobs.
