13 years later and I still can’t believe Dreamworks had the balls to just amputate a 15-year old kid and handled it in like the best way possible.
DreamWorks has always had such mature themes now that I think about it, and they introduced them and handled them in a way that seems so natural to children.
Hiccup’s amputation is such a good example.
DreamWorks didn’t gloss over it either, and even they continued, in every show and every movie from then on, to show what it’s like living with a disability like that. There were some things Hiccup had a harder time doing than before, but in no way did it get in the way of his goals and dreams.
I didn’t understand how important that was when I was a child, watching the movie for the first time, but I understand it now.
DreamWorks has guts, and I’m so happy that they do
If there’s one thing I’ve learned in my decade of watching wlw television, it’s never to trust reviews from mainstream critics. Straight people just don’t get why and how certain media is meaningful to queer people. I’m certainly not about to let them tell me what to think about queer television lmao
And yes, this is about First Kill lol 😈 Unless the reviewer loved Twilight and tons of other straight teen vampire books in middle school, realized she was gay a couple years later, and didnt know until now how much she needed a queer, camp, trope-filled vampire show like this one…I dont want to hear it!!!
riz being aroace as well as fabian’s gay awakening is the only correct option but also the funniest one. this loser (affectionate) is obsessed with you but in somehow the most platonic way possible and there’s a second where you think he might like guys and has even dated one but nope it’s the manifestation of his fears of his total lack of romantic attraction. meanwhile girls are asking YOU why you always bring HIM up and you can’t face the fact that you are actually just as obsessed with him because you are just afraid of your sexuality as he is of his. crazy.
chuuya’s role in bsd is so funny to me. you’re watching this show and every 10 episodes or so this pretty guy drops in, and he’s the coolest most OP guy in the show so he can really only hang around for a few minutes before he makes any conflict obsolete. and he’s supposed to be part of the villains but he never really does anything that evil and is mostly helpful? he just appears and does something badass and fucks off again. and this is all already really weird but also every time he shows up it’s clear that he and one of the other main characters have like, definitely fucked, which adds a whole other layer of absurdism. and the best part is he accomplishes this in maybe 11 total minutes of screen time.
