Hey Pants! It's been long since I've sent some anon love so here we are!

Well, a lot of life stuff has been a foot. Between the largest exam of my life, a ~5000 km move and a new job, a lot of my time any energy have been sucked away. But things are now normalizing out ❤️ and with that, comes my return to writing! (stay tuned)

Atem Sennen has never thought much about holiday romance. Heck, he has not thought about romance at all recently. However, when a cute little customer enters both his coffee shop and his life, he is forced to reconsider his opinion on the topic.

Rec'ers notes: I love both these authors and seeing them co-write this lively seasonal fluff that is chock full of humor and banter was a treat. Yugi's online dating mis-adventures are like a highlight reel of the worst (best) possible dates, and Atem is there laughing and supporting him through the whole thing as his secretly pining barista. While the dates are going on, their chemistry is off the charts and when they finally land on the same page it's with the satisfaction of two puzzle pieces snapping together.

I’m going to cheat a little here and post the last seven lines from chapter 9, which I completed the first draft of today.
“I told you it was beautiful,” Yugi said, his voice overflowing with wonder and awe.
Atem didn’t look up again. Not yet. He was looking at something much more beautiful that was just as unreachable as the lights far up above their heads. Someone who deserved the wonder and majesty the lights cast upon the frozen Earth below. Something he himself did not deserve or have to give.
“Yeah… it’s beautiful.”

from the untitled fragileshipping fic i haven’t finished and probably won’t finish this year!
This confused Ryou. Last time he had seen her*, she was just fine. He wanted to ask but something in the spirit’s eyes prevented him from asking. Whatever happened, it was weighing on him. “Er,” Ryou said, rather awkwardly motioning to his arm. “Do you actually know how to take care of this?”
“I do,” he said as he opened the medical kit and the first thing he did was pull on gloves. Seems he was aware of germ theory at the very least. “Admittedly, treating wounds seems to have gotten less messy and risky in the past three thousand years. In Egypt, we would simply run the wound under water before wrapping linen around it. You guys have all sorts of ways to keep wounds clean now.”
“I thought you didn’t have any memories of your past.”
The spirit had begun to carefully remove the old bandages with the same look on his face that Ryou had seen when he dueled. “I don’t,” he said as he tossed aside the old bandage and began to run rubbing alcohol across the wound. Ryou hissed and he gave a soft apology before continuing. “Things like this... it’s more... intuition, I suppose. I must’ve done something similar before but the context of how I know is lost to me.”
He then had opened up a package of gauze, pressing it against the wound before wrapping a bandage around it. Ryou had to admire how gentle and quick he was about changing the dressing as he examined the new bandage. It wasn’t exactly tight against his skin but it was rather firm. Suddenly, Ryou realized something: he was alone with the spirit of the Puzzle. He might be able to get some answers for once. “If you remember this, what else do you remember?”
“I,” he said and for once, he sounded uncertain. Normally, the spirit of the Puzzle acted so confident that it was strange to see him look nervous. “What I know is that I was once a Pharaoh in Egypt. How my reign ended, how I ended up in the Millennium Puzzle, why I’m here... all these remain a mystery to a me.”

5. What’s a crackship you love?
God, the first thing that came to mind was the Barbie/Dracula fic that went around earlier this year. It was so unironically good I might actually ship it now, and I don’t know what to do with that information
6. What’s the last thing you read that made you laugh?
OH I’M SO GLAD THIS IS A QUESTION, because I just read Where There's a Grill, There's a Way by lucidscreamer last weekend (I think?) and I am positive I scared my neighbors laughing so hard. It’s divine.
7. What’s the last thing you read that made you cry?
Can’t really think of any fics that have done that recently, but I did just finish reading the last chapter of 20020 by Jon Bois before it goes on hiatus until next year, and My Heart Aches For The College Football Husbands

♫ Atem: Rather Be - Clean Bandit There’s nothing more inspiring than the love Atem and Yugi share (whether you ship them or not, you CAN’T deny the level of care they hold for each other.) I know I’ve said this before, but their bond goes beyond just the love and care - it’s about trust. It’s about Atem teaching Yugi to be confident with his own strengths and Yugi teaching Atem to open up and forgive. They’ve been through an incredible journey together and I literally cannot think of one without the other.
(And, like... I think we all know that Atem has always needed Yugi more than Yugi needed him. But don’t get me wrong! I’m not saying Yugi doesn’t need him - or that Atem hasn’t done anything for Yugi!! I don’t know how to explain what I mean without this getting super long, so I’ll just leave it there for now.)

Everybody deals with grief differently.
Yugi prefers to deal with it alone.
With Atem and the puzzle gone to the Afterlife, he struggles to keep his identity intact with that profound loss. And he fears what lurks inside of him, what seemed to have been buried before, but is now slowly taking control. But he hides it from everyone, as he always did with his problems.
However, this menace lurking in the dark will affect the lives of his friends and enemies as it makes its presence known.
And it will reach the depths of the Afterlife where Atem will have to help his partner any way he can before it is too late.

This is the exact fic I wanted/needed back when I first started reading Yugioh fanfictions after the finale aired. It has the most emotional depth of any fic I have ever read. It conveys the pain of grief and loss so profoundly that it moved me with every chapter yet I wanted more. It's the exact opposite of fluff but the romantic moments are so beautiful and well earned after all of the turmoil of the earlier chapters. The ending had me in tears.
It's realistic, that's the other thing. Not only is it so deeply moving in a painful way, but it's realistic. Grief and learning to live with your own demons are all overwhelming and unpredictable. It just hurts to see our favorite characters going through all of that hurt. Everyone is in character and it genuinely feels like a sequel to the canon after DSOD.
I've gone on about this fic to many people including the author and I will continue to sing this fic's praises for a long time! It's angst, yes, but it's beautiful in the journey.
