watched the musical demon show (don't wanna name it so this post isn't in the tags) at the behest of an IRL friend and i can already tell this is going to be a piece of media where i absolutely cannot stop thinking about it, not because i really love the show as-is, but because it has so many individual components i really like and find incredibly fun or compelling, and i'm so frustrated that it doesn't come together for me

i think the main thing i can say about it as a show, setting aside some of the insensitive choices that were made that i really don't feel qualified to tackle or talk about, is that the entire thing sort of gives off this vibe of someone really excited to show you every single oc they made in high school and college and i very genuinely mean that in both the best and worst ways possible

there are some good hooks for season two though so i will absolutely give them that

#the vibe is just like... they are just soooo excited to get all their ideas out that it becomes... messy and badly paced #like there are so many moments that are cool or fun or emotional in a vaccuum but they don't connect fully y'know #because this arc or character was JUST introduced so there isn't proper build up. everything moves too quick #and it's frustrating because you can TELL that the people making this show love their ideas and characters #and i more than get thta! i am also someone with a lotta ocs i love to blab about #but i think they have been working with them so long that they #a. assume we are already just as attached to them as they are without always doing that work #b. assume we've seen all the supplemental material which. i have not #and i don't think that a professional show is the type of thing where there should be a barrier of entry that involves like #podcasts and comics and twitter threads and IC instagram posts about characters to do that emotional/lore legwork y'know #i love lore and supplemental stuff obviously but this should still be like #a satisfying experience for me a person who saw the pilot however many years ago and then has not interacted with the show or fandom since #idk man stuff felt rushed and messy and i wish i liked it more #it needed more slow moments i think. the two scenes where the group all drinks together (minus one awful joke in the bar scene) are like #the best in the show to me becase i actually believe these guys are FRIENDS. i wanna see them hang out more!#i wanna see them actually really grow to like each other organically!!! i wanna see them build connections and grow better slowly!!!#songs absolutely slap though. soundtrack is probably gonna be in my spotify unwrapped 2024 #i love me a musical and that inspiration is on its sleeve which i love #also imo the humor isn't great usually. it's very juvenile imo and sometime that works but it often doesn't #(for me at least humor is obviously SUPER subjective)#also tonally they have this 'have your cake and eat it too' issue which bugs me. it's exemplified by the v's (one in particular)#actually i could go on a whole rant about the v's if anyone is interested because god i have some Thoughts #and i think my issues with the v's (namely one v) encapsulates many issues i have with the show #despite all this rambling i actually did enjoy a lot of my time with it. i just don't think it was well-written if that makes sense

Bagman is the best BCS episode to me by far. LOVE me a good tv episode where two guy's (gender neutral) struggle through a wilderness they are woefully unprepared for (where the wilderness also perhaps reflects an internal struggle through the wilderness of the self or Whatever??!!?!!) and the guys involved (for better or worse) learn more about each other in the process. AND he drinks his own piss

#bcs #AND it's got 'I Got The...' by Labi Siffre one of my favorite songs #The fact that the piss drinking is not even ONLY an indicator of how awful the situation is but also functions as a legitimate #dramatic beat with symbolic baggage is SO fucking funny. Amazing choice no notes #I do think they could've gone a LITTLE further to make the situation more unavoidably dire like they kind of present Mike as a #knowledgeable survivalist but for some reason this guy isn't carrying at least two camelbaks or something into the fucking desert #Even if you're assuming you'll have a car it's crazy to not pack extra water #Then again this is me being a pedant about fucking everything

#been thinking more about this now that I live with people who actually do go clubbing #like first of all it's too loud #second of all I can't dance #and I don't particularly wish to either #don't like the type of music they play and I don't know the songs so it isn't fun #crowds and weird lighting also not great sensory-wise #I don't drink either but that's actually not a huge factor as some of my friends don't either #anyway even if the environment was more tolerable or I was more able to tolerate it #it would still be just that. tolerable. genuinely holds no appeal for me #like yeah OR we could do something fun???#and the insinuation that you're somehow antisocial or repressed or unfulfilled for not wanting that??#idk I do actually enjoy socializing I just prefer to do it in an environment where I can hear what other people are saying sue me #anyway. not saying people are weird for enjoying it I understand that we are built different #just because I don't see the appeal doesn't mean there isn't an appeal for other people #I just wish everyone else would give me the same grace yk?#I don't think people are weird for not enjoying everything I enjoy

Double shift last weekend and this is the only picture I got (which my coworker actually took with me for her Facebook story RIGHT when I looked like shit and it was low effort makeup day because I had to be there early to open the bar)

#a drunk girl in the bathroom called me pretty and two other regulars kissed me on the cheek and called me pet names this is why I'm gay #one of those regulars (who's the bff of my coworker i haven't worked with yet because she's taking a break) asked me to have shots with her #she and the other girl are the sweetest every time i swear they're there almost every weekend and they call me Schatz and Maus #the moment i came back in after putting away my bag and jacket on saturday a middle aged guy mentioned my volbeat hoodie #talked about all the metal bands he's seen like judas priest acdc saxon iron maiden and showed me some new songs he's been into lately #later sang mama i'm coming home to/with me and he and another guy gave me lots of career advice and encouraged me to be bolder in interview #a metalhead dude with long blonde hair and beard (who was also at a concert I worked at last month) winked at me and gave me like €4 tips #and every time he ordered his drinks he put his hand on the back of my head to say it in my ear #because the music from the speakers above was kinda loud but technically not loud enough to do That gjsgfjdshhh 😭😭#he's so hot too he looks like a kind boyish viking idk if that makes sense but 😫😫#the amount of people who have flirted with me or acted a little bit 😏 in the last three months #but nothing came of it so far just trusting they'll come back soon when i'm working the shift again #no phone numbers no insta handles we pine like in the old days and smirk when we see each other for the first time in a while #my face #the bartender chronicles

#last night we were both a little sleepy.#a little wine-drunk.#i asked him to play me something on the guitar while i leaned on his shoulder.#he said he only knows a few songs. i said that's fine #whatever you want.#first song: like real people do by hozier #which has a very tender place in my heart because it's the last song i sang for a real performance (2015).#so i still know all the words.#and he didn't know that!#it just happened to be the song.#anyway it was 1230am. anyway my jacket smells like his apartment.#anyway early this morning i said i thought romance was built of small acts of devotion. like how every morning my dad makes my mom coffee #because she sleeps worse and takes longer to wake up and he wants her to not have to worry about another thing in the morning.#when she comes downstairs every day he has it ready for her to take to work.#he makes it separately because he drinks an entirely different coffee than she does. but he makes it because he wants her to have it.#it's one of many small repeated acts of love they do for each other. they're still in love with each other after 30 years.#anyway my boyfriend is a notorious instant coffee fiend.#it's easy and he likes the flavor.#but when we got up this morning he pulled out a bag of coffee beans and a hand-grinder and said: would you like me to make you coffee?

So... I've been listening to music from Heathers the Musical for hours now. I love the stupid musical and I've watched it online way to many times.
