Cooking up some Priest Set and his mother headcanons based on research:
Scribes could go on and study to be teachers, physicians and priests. But you had to come from a family of scribes to become one. We don’t know much about Set’s mom so perhaps she was scribe who became a physician. A woman could become a scribe if she came from a family of scribes. Maybe that’s how she meets Set’s father? Physician in the war before the creation of the items? And that’s how Set is able to become a scribe, which would led to becoming a priest, then a sacred guardian of the millennium rod.
Ancient Egyptians wrote poetry including love poems. Set most definitely wrote some love poetry about Kisara. Waxing poetic about her blue eyes, her pearlescent white hair, fine as silk.
Scribes could add their writings in the ancient Egyptian version of a library called the House of Life. Anything added to the House of Life would be copied to the celestial House of Life of the gods. The library of the gods definitely contains some of Set’s love sick poems about Kisara.

There's a theory that in Ancient Egypt, pharaohs would masturbate on the Nile during a ceremony as a fertility rite.
I see what you did there, Seto.

S5 Ep 39 Part 1:  Blue Eyes White Dragon Wife Fight
Ah, back from the long Covid slumber (which holy hell do not catch Covid, the long Covid that follows it is a nightmare, and in several ways is worse than the actual Covid) Technically, bro and I still have it, but it’s been a while since we’ve posted and so for now lets just write a post and see what happens?
The show left us off at fight pit where Aknadin tossed Seto’s not-a-girlfriend onto a platform over viewing a bunch of man-sized spikes. Been a while since we’ve been suspended over a good indoor fight pit with a bottomless chasm underneath it. The last time we were in one was Pegasus, wasn’t it? Which is fitting since we now have Pegasus’ item sitting in Aknadin’s eye-hole.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Kissara is kind of over the whole “I have a pokemon in my soul” thing and either refuses to show she has a dragon in her butt because 1.) she doesn’t want a powerful country to have access to her dragon powers or 2.) she just doesn’t freakin care about the fate of the world and this current pharaoh of the week because she’s that OP.
(read more under the cut)
I’d like to think it was the the latter, but she’ll not really tell us what her whole deal is this episode anyway. So guess away. In defiance of his Dad/coworker, Seto decided to jump head first off of a ledge, probably feeling a little jealous that Yami got to do that last episode.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now don’t be deceived from my caps, the girl said “thank you, sir.” and that’s about it. To be honest, even that much feels like character development because she actually had a speaking line.
Tumblr media
So while Seto is talking up about how he’s going to save this girl and be the hero of the day, and while Seto is apparently a match for Pharaoh and Bakura, he is no match for these random ass prisoners with one single spider. This was not helped by the fact that they’re suspended over a chasm held up by some flimsy bike chains.
So really it was the flimsy bike chains that couldn’t handle one single spider, to give Seto more credit.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
So it’s going to take every fiber of my long Covid ridden being to not say that Kissara “morbed out”, (man oh man I just want to say Morb in all caps and it’s a very unfortunate symptom of this illness) however, she did glow bright blue and shoot a dragon out of her ass.
Tumblr media
And so she used her face lasers, and Egypt was like woah.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In the literal show Shimon was like “ah, is the power of the Egyptian Gods?” So that we the audience could see that Blue Eyes Egyptian Kissara was at the same level as Yami’s God cards. It was to prove that Seto maybe could be a Pharaoh, depending on if this girl would please become a paper card which at the moment she is too sleepy to do.
But by this logic...wouldn’t that make Kissara the proper Pharaoh of Egypt? Just saying. I mean she is mad sleepy and so wouldn’t do much ruling, but for that I think this city would be kind of thankful after the run their last few Pharaoh’s put them through.
Off screen she got Seto out of fight pit and then decided to just fall asleep in his arms like a small puppy.
Tumblr media
Y’all every ship is valid and good here and so I don’t want to knock the ship too much but wow this girl is snoozing a lot of the time right? I was expecting more than this, and I’m telling you, my expectations were extremely low. But who knows, maybe she wakes up and has speaking lines in later episodes?
Anyway, Kissara exited stage left and then Seto and Aknadin had a fight that Seto honestly thought he would not be having when he woke up this morning.
Tumblr media
Aknadin inferred he’d have to force Seto’s hand and like...I dunno, you put his coma patient/not girlfriend/dragon in a pit I think you screwed it, Aknadin.
Tumblr media
Back in Kul Elna, (which Bro just informed me is spelled with a U not an E) Bakura is monologuing to his only friend left in the world AKA this tablet, which I find out later is called “the millennium stone.” and I don’t know how to contain that knowledge.
Millennium stone.
While he’s here talking to the rock, Bakura is also letting us, the audience know why the hell he is even doing this. A nice little bit of summary for just in case any of the audience went and caught Covid while watching this season and currently can’t cook a soup without remembering to stir the garlic before it burns completely black. Which I did. Yesterday.
Tumblr media
So originally I had a set of caps that was like “Zork was the most popular computer game before Doom how did Yugioh manage to use the same name?” and that was when my bro told me “Rachel I’m so sorry. It’s spelled with a C.”
Freakin Zorc.
My mind is fully lost at this point but that one sure got me.
Zorc with a freakin C.
Anyway, Zorc with a C wants to have a talk.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
At first I was like ... Shada??? You mean the guy you’ve seen several times at this point, Bakura? But because Bakura doesn’t have long Covid like I do, he knew immediately that this key was metaphorically while I sure didn’t and was like “freakin how many keys??? Did I miss something the last 5 seasons?”
Tumblr media
And because Yugioh loves irony, it didn’t take long for Bakura to realize he put the cart before the horse when he tossed the Pharaoh down that hole.
Also tossed the horse down the hole.
Lots of things in the Yami hole.
Yo what if...I mean that horse died off screen, right? Spoilers--it’s not there in the next part of this episode so let me just........add that to the death count.
Death count is 7,805,845,571 by the way.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
That’s right Yugioh is going to pull a Rumpelstiltskin on us!
Tumblr media
Damn! Here I thought I’d never be thinking about Once ever again but nah, Yami’s magical powers are contained in his freakin name.
Was this the intention of the writers of the whole series? Probably not, but do I think it’s a fun little twist--yeah, that’s fun. Like we know that Bakura’s ring can find his heart’s desire, so when it’s a name that isn’t a tangible object, that’s actually a pretty good twist.
I would normally try and add up all the dots we know about Yami and his history but at this point it’s looking less like Seto killed Yami, despite what that massive tablet and Ishizu told us. But Ishizu has been wrong before, so I’m not gonna worry about it. My head is blissfully thought free because of the long Covid and we’re gonna keep it that way.
Anyway, thanks for being so chill as we take it very easy through this summer of sickness. (in fact, bro told me I had to fix one of the caps and I’ll be real: I forgot which one it is, and I can no longer tell so forgive me if I also just left a turd in the caps there. eh, long Covid) I have no idea when the next episode will go up. But here is a link to read all the episodes in chrono order up till now:
https://steve0discusses.tumblr.com/tagged/yugioh/chrono
also, quick question for the tags--is there a name we use for Past Seto Kaiba? Like for tagging? I probably should have asked this like 20 episodes ago but I just realized there probably is one.

Do you guys wanna hear about how Kisara and Seto's story shaped up in the back of my mind after years of reading and thinking about them? First off I gotta say it's very loosely based on canon and I haven't revisited the material in a while, I know, great sign right? I'm just writing it down to revisit later, its my brain mud puddle I love playing in.
Anyway so I think Blue Eyes White Dragon was originally a god, of something along the lines of power, victory, protection, war and alike. And came to be humbled by other gods, or powers above, by having a human spirit made in for her, created and shaped in her image, the perfect worshipper of her, the most perfect human soul for her. You may imagine whatever reason for this rejection of this god, but to me it feels more like a plot of envy by invisible hands, she shines bright.
Now the distinction between God and Shadow Monster/Ka wouldn't be just strength, for example God Ra would be residing in another existence, the Afterlife, and restrained by rules that bind Gods, while Ka Ra, more like the blurry shadow of the real thing falling upon the wall, connected to the God, but nowhere nearly whole as its feet are rooted in another existence, is still magical but freer in interacting with the mortal world.
So The God we're talking about, unable to bear the distance with her mortal would go a whole different way. See, staying a God and having a Ka on the real world is unendurable, so she would have to change where her very essence is rooted, not in the Afterlife as a God, but in mortal world, a Mortal body is the vessel in which she is wholly contained, just to live on the world the same time the one she is bind to does, just for a chance to meet in their flesh one day.
So this is where things start to get insane because Set, made by gods or powers beyond to bring a God down on the mortal plane, has to have Ba that isn't anything ever witnessed before. This soul has to be enough to grasp the strings of fate and pull the God down, so jot that down.
Now a a power struggle orchestrated by gods could only end in tragedy, so that's how it ends. They share only a few moments but that was all the god could ever ask for, giving it all up just be born on some part of the world with close to no chance of meeting her fated mortal, its something to be cherished. And her Ka is strong enough to stay with the mortal for the rest of time, every time, his soul reincarnates, until they reunite in the Afterlife. Because the thing is from the very start her story is one of sacrifice, all for a mortal.
And the thing with the mortal is uhhh. Now you see, the mortal isn't very happy about the sacrifice stuff. He is a human with his human life and struggles and all but he is also made in the image of this god of power, this gods champion, and chosen. And uhh, it's dead. The god's dead. The god died in his arms. So he does what any champion of the god of victory, who hasn't existed as a god in forever, would do. Take all his battles to the grave, reborn again and again, and reincarnates to once again challenge his fate.
And in the year of 2000, he rises to global power as a teenager, and remakes his god in the modern world after all the other ones have been long forgotten. Blue Eyes White Dragon becomes synonymous with power and victory in the hands of Seto Kaiba, even after he loses the Blue Eyes doesn't, as the mascot of Kaiba Corp, the most iconic face of Duel Monsters, she enters every home as posters on the walls, on clothes, as miniature statues, and is remade by the sheer power of her mortal, coming full circle, almost granting her godhood again, if only she would take it.
(she would much rather exist a ghost with barely any power with her arms linked around her one and only than all the power in all the worlds)(and he can feel it)

I’m imagining a Yu-Gi-Oh reboot with narrative amendments again. And now that my qpp’s seen all of Duel Monsters, I can finally post this without spoiling anything for her, but that also means I saw there were sections I forgot about. There’s plenty of other well-said critiques about Memory World, and I wouldn’t be surprised if the author himself had similar critiques, considering his health’s impact on his mental presence at the time and vice versa, so I just wanna talk about the Millennium Rod.
It’s kind of odd that we got a Dark Marik but not a Dark Kaiba, right? But what if we did and it was just misattributed?
Before more lore was canon, there was an early game in which Kaiba was possessed by the Millennium Ring; and originally, Priest Set was intended to be King Atemu’s other serious challenger besides Zorc. So what if instead of leaning into a DID stereotype, Dark Marik was more like the other two sealed souls associated with Millennium Items? I mean, he does have the eye sigil literally the entire time he’s active. That could’ve actually been Aknadin/the High Priest of Darkness from when he tried to possess Set, or there could’ve been a subplot there about Zorc affecting Set directly and that influence being sealed into the Rod, only it didn’t have sentience separate from Zorc until the Rod responded to Marik’s raw anger. Marik and Bakura have both used Millennium powers to implant themselves in secondary hosts, it’s been established before that Millennium entities can reach out remotely to a varying extent, and in season zero, Zorc’s battle injuries could grow into new minions.
Actually, Seto and Marik have a lot in common aside from an acquired taste for blood and theatrics (Seto may be anti-military in this life but in his past life he was well on his way down a path of police brutality). Both of them are inseparable from a brother who keeps them comparatively sane just by being there for them, but whom also part-time at their conscience. For either of them and their respective brother, at least one of them was adopted by the oppressive father who made both their childhoods so traumatic, and the fathers tried forcing their sons into their own dark family legacies while maintaining total control over them, which ultimately cost them their lives when their heirs did take over. And maybe it’s just that they’re wearing similar clothing, but Marik’s father does kind of look like Priest Set’s birth father.
This may fall into headcanon, but it’s also one of the amendments I’d like to see if Duel Monsters were to get a fix-it relaunch. It wouldn’t make any continuity errors I can think of up until Memory World, but it could also recontextualize some preceding details.

I didn't really care for how light skinned the Egyptians in YuGiOh were, so have a darker interpretation of priest Seto.
I wanted him to have braids, but, I can't draw those very well lmao
Maybe I'll draw Atem sometime, too.
