Thanksgiving (2019) by Rachel Long
In Episode 199, Rachel shares a poet recommended by a listener, Milo Rey!
Rachel: In fact, Rachel Long is actually a founder of a poetry collective called the Octavia Poetry Collective for Women of Colour. She talks a lot about the experience of being what she calls, like, both the invisible and also hyper visible.
[...] And so that poem kind of gets at that a little bit, of just this idea of like trying to exist in this space and be what somebody else wants you to be, you know? And I mean, obviously I don’t have that exact experience, but that experience of being with somebody that you feel is different than you, and trying to just keep everything unique about yourself, like, hidden.
This poem always manages to catch me off guard; it's title and opening lines seem to be guiding the reader towards a peaceful, and even tender, road. But suddenly, you finish reading it and realise that, without even noticing it, you'd been steered right to the edge of a cliff. It's such a quiet, heartbreaking poem.
If you’d like to hear more about the author's experience, you can do so here: In Relationship with the Orbeez, from 23:38 - 35:00

hello i am constantly bursting to talk about my favorite podcast to anyone who will listen and they just dropped their 300th episode this week so i guess that is you guys like it or not.
please allow me to tell you about Wonderful! an enthusiast podcast.
Wonderful! is a non-fiction podcast hosted by a married couple that uploads more or less once a week, and it is only. about. awesome things.
The thesis of the show is that every episode each host brings something they think is good that they are into and presents it show-and-tell style.
They’ll do research on the thing and sometimes that thing is a song, sometimes that thing is an emotional phenomena, sometimes that thing is grapes.
There is a reoccurring segment where one of them takes the other into the “Poetry Corner” and reads them poetry and it is so so delightful to consistently hear the other one react to said poetry.
I have listened to every episode and they have been doing this for YEARS, through moves and children and a pandemic and it’s always just so nice to hear the same two people every week talk about something, anything, that is good.
You don’t need to listen in any order, you can jump in anywhere. You should listen it’s… wonderful!

The really great part about Malevolent by this point is that Arthur and John have completely given up on what is essentially the primary plot of the show - getting separated. You are in the middle of an investigation to get your body and sight back Arthur, what do you mean you just want to drop everything and go back to England?

THEE audiodrama disguised as podcast
#sherlock and co#s&co#sherlock holmes#john watson#mariana ametxazurra#Ive been thinking abt these design SO much lmao. even while doing other things#decided to take cues from acd/granada more. hence sherlock's headband to mimic slicked back hair#and I went with Colors bc. well first of all Im a clown. but second of all I recall some stuff abt victorian fabrics and uh. the wonder of#arsenic green etc#they were enjoying the colors I can commit to some#and. okay Im so real with u Im also a long haired john truther bc he has a podcast of course he'd have long hair but#I think its gonna take a Hot minute. currently this is still like the slightly-grown-out regulation cut#john's jacket is bc he and sherlock are 90s kids. this was a moment of enlightenment to me. I can give john every windbreaker on earth#mariana gets the jean jacket bc I like to imagine she's a y2k kid#(sherlock I think is only 90s kid in year of birth that man's childhood was skipping class to burn shit in the wood)#(but he canonically sews which I fucking love so much. he has not bought new clothes for almost a decade#if a shirt's disintegrating no it isn't. not on his watch)#a lil sad I cant figure out how to give them hats lol I feel like thats the most victorian thing there is. a stupid hat#I can at any moment give one of them a beanie. but I refuse#there are. like a Hoard of other scribbly sketches I did to get used to drawing them. but those are for me those are not for the public#and also theyre in my sketchbook and Im too lazy to scan them#happened mostly during lunar new year lol. I was getting Hard whipped then thank u s&co for carrying me thru#ok I do other things now. have this for a while ok? thank u#have a good night lads. enjoy motion

A Litany for Survival (1978) by Audre Lorde
In Episode 140, Rachel brings a poet who described herself as, quote, "a black lesbian mother warrior poet."
Griffin: [after hearing the poem] Jesus Christ.
Rachel: [laughs] Isn't that incredible? That is—is such... a beautiful expression of the experience of being marginalized. Right? Like—
Griffin: I mean, in a way that you and I could never fully comprehend, for sure. That is like—I am struggling for words over here.
Rachel: I—there are moments in that poem that I just think are so succinct and brilliant. This idea of, "so their dreams will not reflect the death of ours" I find incredibly powerful. And she talks a lot about this idea of, y'know, when you are in a group of marginalized people, you are often told to be silent. To kind of adapt to the culture so that you can get along. And Audre Lorde oftentimes said like, that is not a way to success for us.
If you’d like to hear more -and honestly, why wouldn't you?- you can do so here: The Atomic Collage, from 26:50 - 34:08

I'm really glad they had Michael stab Jon.
Like, it was one of the most random things to happen in the entire podcast (so far). There was no buildup to it. I actually have no idea why he did it. He just came to the archive, picked up his victim, said some cryptic stuff and stabbed Jon.
But i love it. No chaotic neutral character is complete if he doesn't do a bit of stabbing.

Sad as hell that Malevolent takes place a few years before the Batman and Robin comics came out cause I think them fighting over who gets to be Batman and who gets to be Robin would be fucking hilarious.
Arthur: he’s literally an orphaned detective, a certified sleuth! I get to be Batman.
John: you are not nearly muscular enough to be Batman, nor as dark and brooding. Clearly I am the better fit.
Arthur: you can pry this utility belt from my cold dead hands

John Watson saying you join me and my companion/colleague/friend/flat mate while the only thing I can think of is oh please cut the bullshit.
Companion is already the gayest word in existence and yet you want to salvage yourself by flat mate in a desperate try of not using roommate which is actually nothing more than just the second gayest word in existence and you and I both know it.
Who do you think you’re fooling John, my beloved sweet summer child, only yourself I’m afraid.
