Alright so once we're past Volume 3 my reasons for bringing this up will shrink by orders of magnitude, buuuuuut I gotta go back to the danged Hbomb video.

I've already talked about how I don't think his critiques on how semblances are introduced and explained are entirely reasonable, especially when compared, as he does, to other anime that take their dear sweet time to explain how their world's superpowers work. And here I see another example of how his critiques miss the mark entirely.

In his video, he brings up the fact that the Schnee family all share a semblance that is hereditary, and uses this as an example of how semblances are inconsistent and poorly implemented into the narrative, but I can see, watching this scene with my own eyes, that the very first time it's brought up that the Schnees can all do Summoning, it doesn't take long for Winter to mention that hereditary semblances are extremely rare. So we have an in-universe explanation that highlights how unusual this is, that most of the time this is not a thing you can expect to happen and the Schnees are an anomaly.

The often-cited factoid "one in four RWBY huntresses have a hereditary semblance" is misleading. The actual number is zero in four. Hereditary Semblances Schee, who (presumably) lives in an ice castle and inherited 100% of her semblances, is a statistical outlier and should not have been counted.

I have more to say about this but I think I'll save it for when I'm done the season.

Idk what your ozpin lore is but I always liked the idea of people descended from ozcarnations that had like minor hereditary magic that either augmented their semblance or gave them some sort of minor power, like sorcerers from dnd except there’s only really one source for the various magical bloodlines. They could go without notice because it could be hand-waved as either a really powerful semblance or a “compound semblance” which is where individuals could develop a second, smaller aura subset with a different color. I thought it could be cool to explain how Neo does what she does as a compound semblance that allows her to create what are effectively holograms, on top of which she layered a secondary semblance that changes the density of air to form constructs.

Ooooh this is actually a very interesting take on Remnant’s magic system. Without too much spoilers, I do like the idea of messing with Magic Bloodlines, one of the many things left behind from the Old World, like Silver Eyes for example.

While we're on Bloodlines, can we all agree that there is something up with the Schnee Bloodline? A Bloodline so strong that it gives EVERY descendant blue eyes, pale skin, and white hair (Even people who marry into the family?!?!) Not even mentioning how Weiss and Winter both inherited the exact same Semblance, which by all accounts RWBY lore should be strange.

And what even is Glyphs besides just basically magic? What exactly does Schnee "Glyphs" cover? Both Cinder and Glynda have used Glyphs before in episode 1 no less. Is Schee Glyph specialty Time Dilation Glyphs? Because I refuse to believe she can just do that with Dust. Oh and also to top it off with Grimm Necromancy?! What even is their Semblance?!

RWBY Band Au

I was writing another work the last week and made this mess of an idea. (Of all the times that I wish I could draw)

All of my RWBY WIPs are still in the works, and yet here's another for the pile. (I'll have these published before V10 comes out lol)

Summary: Jaune Arc has been depressed ever since the lead singer and his lover Pyrrha Arkos died. Since than him and his band hasn't done any gigs, which results in them splitting up, all three of them going their separate ways.

But when he hears Oscar Pine, a waiter in his favorite underground bar belt some notes on the stage, he starts to find healing in a voice.

Of course, that's all I have so far, but I'm open to anything and all things people want to say to this au.

I even wrote down what band names everyone has. Here's the quick list, and who's in the band.

Juniper's Tales: Jaune, Nora, Ren, Oscar, and Pyrrha (Past) (Because of the jackalope, its because of the jackalope)

RWBY: Ruby, Wiess, Yang, and Blake (It really suits them, as a team, a series, a band title)

Funky Jazz: Flynt, Neon, Kobalt, Ivori (I can picture them as a jazz band)

Raging Hellions: Adam, Illia, Corsac, and Fennec (The name is from another au, but it works as a more metal band name)

Three Hot Men & A Monkey: Sun, Neptune, Scarlet, and Sage (I made this name as a joke, but it fits)

Older Bands *Now Disbanded*

Wavering Seasons: Summer, Taiyang, Raven, and Qrow (With each of their personalities, it makes the name fit.)

Clock Work: Ozpin, Glynda, Qrow, and Ironwood (Probably the strangest band on this list)

Zwei's Howlers: Qrow, Taiyang, Ruby, and Yang (This was when the girls were little, and Taiyang didn't want to fully give up on the music scene.)

Soloists *People Who Solo*

Winter Schee (I'm sure she's got some pipes)

Oscar Pine (But only in the bar he worked at, before joining JT)

Salem (Retired, but probably would manipulate Cinder into going into the music scene to get revenge)

I think it’s also important to emotion that the people of Atlas are not in Vacuo for vacation. This isn’t a romcom about a girl from the big city having to be humbled. These people went through a magic portal after learning some kind of immortal goddess has been lurking for centuries, their academy and military leader tried to leave a city for dead, and now they are suddenly without a home without proper shelter of any kind, we saw people fall from the bridge so some of them have lost their loved ones, and making it to Shade or town proper is probably more important to them, stuck up it not, than having to see a Faunus or a poor person. Like we saw that stuff in V7 and V8 but the story is not “entitled ppl must now see how the other half lives” it’s “ppl from both Atlas and Mantle have lost their homes in a 24 hour time frame and their only howl of survival when we last saw them was four teenagers and a newly powered up Winter Schnee. Like yes to all of your previous points but idk where V10 will drop us but I don’t think class issues are gonna be what most of the Atlesians are focused on off the top

and most of the refugees are not jacques schee. most of the refugees are people who rioted in the streets when jacques schee laid them off as a political stunt. most of the refugees are working class people who have been struggling to survive for years in a repressive and increasingly militarized police state and who arrive in vacuo less than an hour after their head of government declared his intention to NUKE THEM ALL. a significant minority of the refugees are middle class atlesians who crowded into subway stations and listened with abject horror while their head of government threatened to nuke mantle. and many of the refugees aren’t anti-faunus racists because they are faunus.

the fandom tendency to dehumanize these people and treat them like a homogenous mass of sneering rich bigots is genuinely unsettling.

although i do have to say, i think the atlesian class issues are probably going to linger—not because of atlesians being snooty about vacuo, but because the enraged, desperate, and acutely traumatized mantelian working class are about to be stuck in the same refugee camp as the wealthy corporate CEOs who used to be all safe and untouchable in their atlesian mansions and, uh. well i expect the happy huntresses to have their hands full defusing THAT powder keg of a situation.

(i am also a little worried for whitley and willow on similar grounds—neither of them is to blame for how jacques ran the SDC, and the attempt to help the people of mantle by sending SDC cargo ships to evacuate them probably earned some goodwill, but… they’re still schnees, and there’s probably not a single company more hated in mantle than the SDC. like winter can take care of herself and willow isn’t exactly helpless either but. yanno.)

but yeah. they’re refugees and most of them weren’t living privileged lives to begin with. the main problems are gonna be 1. figuring out how the hell to keep “surprise! here’s an extra two hundred thousand people!” from quickly becoming two hundred thousand corpses dead from exposure, starvation, or lack of water, and 2. extreme xenophobic hatred of the refugees inflaming the preexisting unrest and national populist sentiments that made the crown’s movement so popular.

Winter Knight (Rogue AU): Jaune is a former Atlas student who was under special instruction by Winter but Jaune didn’t like Atlas methods so he left, faking his death by jumping off the edge of Atlas. Broken and sadden, Winter never to an apprentice ever again under her wing. A few years later, at Beacon she meets her long “dead” apprentice as a student at Beacon. Winter wants an explanation and doesn’t realize she’s causing quite the scene the “Vergil-like” new and true Jaune who wanted power for the right reasons and didn’t want to be a mindless puppet of Atlas.

Full Metal Alchemist RWBY Au Pt. 1

After having a conversation with someone about user's names, I sudden got this idea to write.

Unsure if it will turn out to be a full series, but I got something to start it off.

Edward Elric: Mercury Black (With a metal arm and metal legs)

Alphonse Elric: Oscar Pine (The Gentle Suit of Armor)

Winry Rockbell: Emerald Sustrai-Pine

Pinako Rockbell: Lurine Pine

Roy Mustang: Qrow Branwen (He was my first choice)

Riza Hawkeye: Winter Schee (She would have sharp eyesight in my opinion)

Ling Yao: Yang Xiao Long (This Sounded Funny to me)

Lan Fan: Blake (I couldn't help myself; Lan Fan is like a ninja after all)

Scar: Hazel Rainhart (The better choice for being Scar, this actually makes sense.)

Father: Salem (This one was obvious in my opinion.)

Greed: Cinder Fall

Mercury was great friends with the pair of siblings Oscar and Emerald, living with his mother.

He grew up reading his father's book on alchemy and growing a good natured interest in it, until his mother becomes ill one day and doesn't recover.

After dies Mercury decides to use the alchemy, he had learned to bring her back to life only, Oscar happen to be there because he wanted to help, but neither knew what tragedy would befall them that day.

So, the Truth took both of his legs and Oscar's soul to pay for his sins of trying to summon from the dead, Mercury not wanting to leave Oscar to die, goes back to Truth to get him back, but instead is only able to tie his soul to a suit of armor and lose his arm in the process.

Now he is in search of the Philosopher Stone to restore him and his brother in arms.

While in the background Salem and Grim Homunculi try to take over the world.

I actually think that Weiss is the only Schneebling whose birth was planned and intentional.

In my theory, Willow and Jacques got married once Willow found out she was pregnant with Winter. They planned on having a second child, hence Weiss birth. Then, Nicholas got sicker and Willow wasn´t even planning on having a third child as it was not her priority at the time. But still a few days/weeks after Nicholas death she found out she was pregnant.

She was suffering from losing her father and was in no condition to take care of a child physically and mentally, even Klein had to agree when she said she couldn´t bear the responsability and she was contemplating an abortion. But it was Jacques that convinced her to have Whitley and to not get rid of him.
