I colour coded these again since I found it difficult to parse with all black text. I tried to pick four of the available colours that are easy to tell apart while avoiding red and green since that's the most common type of colourblindness. I gave NH yellow and PG purple since those are the hardest to see on light & dark themes respectively and I figured those colours wouldn't be around very long lmao
round 2 starts tomorrow!

Personally, i very much dislike "election arcs" in rp, simply because it can so easily lead to getting really poor ideas of characters when they're having their debates. When they are able to talk over each other so the person who is Most Right is the one who Talks The Loudest, it's an easy way for me to start disliking those loud people. With more context, after the fact, i now understand that the way forever and cellbit and that whole group were going about their debate was very on par with how they are used to debates going (obvs with more dramatics and overplayed for content) but the entire debate situation rips us out of the "yes and..." Concept that so much RP thrives off of. Political debates, at their core, are typically "No. My way is The Only Way." Which is... The opposite of what we have been enjoying for months.
The calm convos that were had After the debate were So Good, and characters could actually play off of each other's ideas, come up with theories, and try to help each other while still holding their own ideals, which returned us to the "yes and..." Culture.
The debates themselves are formulated in such a way to make us hate other characters (in rp) in ways we never would in other instances. Maybe that's some sort of weird fucked up point thats trying to be made, but it's so so hard to watch. The ganging up on the quieter ones, the ones who might not have such a good grasp on putting their policies into English words. When Fit announced the unmoderated portion of the debate, and Baghera just sighed because she knew she wouldn't be getting much of the floor.
The look into other cultures' politics is really interesting, and the way they are playing up actual issues that they face in their countries' political climates is enlightening, but it doesn't mesh well with others. I wish I didn't get genuinely angry when people talk over each other and fail to listen during the actual debates, and I'm glad they all come together to praise each other in and out of character after, and check in to make sure everyone is okay, but political debates are just. So hard to watch.
Maybe that's all on purpose, and it's a whole plan by the Federation to get everyone against each other but even if it's plot relevant, god is it hard to watch.
