I went down the PS2 Emulating/Reproduction Rabbit Hole so you don’t have to:
And here’s how to get your favorite PS2 games for cheap.
I was just gifted a used PS2 for my birthday which made me SO excited… until I looked up the cost of a lot of the games I want to play. Titles like Silent Hill 2 & 3 go for about $100 (USD) typically and the game I’ve been hunting for, Blood Will Tell, averages anywhere between $450- $700. Because these titles didn’t sell well initially but are popular now/have a sense of rarity to them, they cost a fortune. So do you spend a fortune on getting them or live without playing them?
Neither!
You emulate them or buy from a professional reproducer!
What is emulating?
According to Wikipedia the definition is: “in computing, an emulator is hardware or software that enables one computer system to behave like another computer system. An emulator typically enables the host system to run software or use peripheral devices designed for the guest system.”
TLDR; emulating (in video game terms) is taking a game and playing it on either a system it wasn’t originally made for OR a country/region it wasn’t designed to launch in.
Is emulation illegal?
No, emulating a game isn’t illegal. The only part that would be considered “illegal” is if you don’t own the actual ROM/game you’re emulating. For example, if I download Silent Hill 2 for free off the internet and emulate it on my PS2, that’s considered piracy because I didn’t actually buy the game.
Do I suggest emulating on the PS2, if not what is another option?
No, there’s something you can do that’s a lot easier than emulation. Emulation typically is for playing old games on a new system, commonly a PC. It takes a lot of software/hardware know-how to do and the average joe (me) doesn’t have that.
Another option is buying a reproduction and a reproducer. This requires a rapport with a third party professional and a the right system.
What is video game reproduction?
Reproduction is when a creator completely reproduces a game and burns it onto a disk, making multiple copies off of one game and making them available across different models and regions of the same system. In order to use the reproduction, one needs to download a software on their system that allows you to run homebrew/reproduced content.
Is reproducing a game illegal?
Well… yes. But the brunt of the legal ramifications is on the vendor and there has been no case of a person being charged with buying a reproduced game. Think of it as going to 9anime.to and watching a pirated anime, you’re watching pirated content which is illegal. But 9anime is providing that content and has the target on their back. The vendor I’ll be suggesting is literally on Etsy and has been for years, so that’s how little this is enforced.
If you’re paranoid about this then I obviously don’t suggest this option, I suggest trying to emulate the game but that means you’ll be buying whatever it is at full price. I’m just a random person on tumblr so you don’t have to listen to me at all lmao.
Here’s a screenshot of a reddit thread discussing this practice:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
What reproducer do I suggest?
AndresCustoms on Etsy/Facebook Marketplace! He tests his products on many different systems from various different regions. He has an 4.8 star average review. I’ve read the review comments, consumers a very impressed with his work and he actively responds to his reviews. Andre also is easy to get in touch with if you have any questions on how to set up his FMCB cards or games. He only accepts refunds for defect disks of his, since that is his fault. Besides games he sells (average of $25) he also sells the hardware that allows you to play them, they’re FMCB cards ($15) all you do is stick one into the controller port and it’s good to go.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
What to look out for with reproductions?
I don’t recommend buying off Ebay, they have a fraud department but you’re likely getting overcharged for what you’re buying. The largest portion of scams are on Ebay.
Scammers often sell reproductions for the cost of the real game titles, not only are you paying way more than it’s worth many of these tend to not work well or at all. That’s why reputable vendors who openly claim to be professional reproducers and have multiple ratings by real customers (i.e. AndresCustoms) are very important to consider when getting reproductions. Never buy a game that is inflated far above market price, unless it is mint condition and graded for collection purposes.
TLDR FOR ENTIRE POST:
PS2 games cost a shit ton of money these days
Emulation is mostly used to play retro games on modern devices, usually PCs
Emulation is hard to do unless you have technical know-how
Legal emulation requires the purchase of an authentic game
Reproduction is illegal under piracy laws
Reproduction under a reputable vendor can be a cheap way to get your favorite retro games and still run as if they where authentic copies
Keep your eye out for scams

In light of the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade and threaten and remove access to abortions, creators from all across itch.io have contributed projects to this solidarity bundle.
100% of the proceeds from this bundle will go to the National Network for Abortion Fund's Collective Power Fund, which moves money directly to abortion funds across 20+ U.S. states, with a particular focus on the South and Midwest (where it is often most difficult to get access to abortions). NNAF’s partnerships with these abortion funds provide direct resources and funds to many of the people most impacted by Roe v. Wade, towards immediate action.
Hey yall! Caro Asercion, a trans multiracial game designer and artist, is hosting an indie game bundle of 792 games to donate money to abortion rights. The whole bundle can be bought for just $10. As of now, about 50% of the bundle’s goal of $400,000.00 has been reached.
Link to the bundle’s itch.io page
Link to Caro’s original twitter post announcing the bundle
The bundle will run live through July 13th!!

Some answers are combined for space, and there are two catch-alls for other adaptations. Please go ahead and specify in the tags for these! (and if you chose other, of course)
This poll is focused on canon-era 221bs, so the Rathbone movies, Elementary, and Sherlock don't get separate answers. Feel free to still put them in the tags though if one is your preferred version.

Reproductions are just Counterfeits with a different name
Tumblr media
Since the dawn of time, video games have been copied illegally and sold on the second hand market without the endorsement of license holders. However it was pretty easy to tell the difference between a legit copy of a game and a bootleg. You couldn't fool anyone that this was a legit copy of Super Mario Bros. 3, right?
Tumblr media
They were often sold for cheap, or in some cases were able to be rented. However as console gaming moved from cartridges to discs these bootleg cartridges slowly started to fade away in western markets. They didn't completely disappear but the prominence of them dwindled up until the 2000s. Then slowly but surely, we started to see cartridges pop up that look like the real deal but are actually counterfeit.
Tumblr media
These are often called "Reproductions" or "Repros" for short. Despite the new name, the purpose of these cartridges still serve the exact same purpose as those bootleg cartridges from decades ago. Except this time these repros were made to look real to the point where it can fool people who don't know any better. Sure the hardcore collector can easily tell which is real or counterfeit, but everyone else?
Tumblr media
But wait! There are also cases of "reproductions" being made of games that technically don't exist. Here we have a copy of Kid Dracula on NES which... hang on a minute! This was a Famicom game that never left Japan which never saw an NES release. This also seems to contain an English fan translation which I doubt the manufacturer of this cartridge got permission to use that for this cartridge. So wait why even call this a reproduction to begin with? This isn't mimicking anything that exists, it's no different to any other counterfeit cartridge.
Tumblr media
There's also folks who consider modern cartridges such as this to be "reproductions". This is not trying to replicate anything that exists. It's a bootleg multicart, it's also not a "fake" game. The games on this cartridge are very real but the cartridge itself is worth next to nothing due to it being counterfeit.
Tumblr media
There's also a huge issue with "reproductions" being sold for an absurd markup. Even if its not trying to replicate an existing game, why would you spend around $40 for what is essentially an unlicensed cartridge that realistically is worth dirt. If your argument is because this allows you to play these games on original hardware then invest in a flash cartridge or anything that lets you run rom files on original hardware which negates ever considering purchasing any of this.
Tumblr media
I'm not a huge fan of calling all these newly manufactured cartridges reproductions when there are many which clearly do not fall under the actual definition of a reproduction. For something to be labeled as a reproduction it must replicate the original such as this EarthBound cartridge.
Tumblr media
It's clearly based on the real thing and without further inspection looks close enough to the authentic cartridge. Compare that to other cartridges such as this seemingly innocent North American cartridge of Animal Crossing. The thing is that this never left Japan at least on the N64. So would you call this a reproduction?
Tumblr media
Going by the actual definition it does not qualify due to it not replicating the original cartridge but instead mocking up what an American copy would look like. Since its distinct from the original cartridge I find it hard to call it a reproduction when it isn't even reproducing anything outside of the core game within (with a stolen fan translation might I add). If you were to give it a label it's simply a counterfeit or unlicensed cartridge despite the fake ESRB and Nintendo seal on the cartridge.
Tumblr media
If I had to guess as to the reason why everything of this nature is labeled as reproductions is probably just to cover up the fact that these are by nature unauthorized copies of games which in return technically falls under copyright infringement. So its likely that this term is widespread to cover up that fact. That's not to say I'm completely against cartridges like this in general. I like collecting the odd bootleg cartridge every so often, but these newer cartridges don't appeal to me. I'll just stick to either buying original copies or play these games on flash cartridges.

Why do the adult stages of insects have short lifespans?
Most animals can't reproduce, and most don't even develop the organ systems to do so, until almost the end of their development. Many mammals are actually rare freaks for their ability to start reproducing as little as a third into their lifespan, and keep reproducing over and over until they die; it's an extreme and radical survival strategy we evolved that comes with some pretty severe trade-offs, in that we have high energy demands and require so, so much food in proportion to most other organisms, not to mention all the ways those reproduction systems can take on illness, malfunction or hurt us. Other animals like birds and reptiles and various fish opted instead to reach adult size as fast as they can, build the reproductive system, and then just take it easy: they live a long time and can mate more than once, but they don't do so constantly and don't make that many young. The MOST common strategy in nature, basically the default norm is to devote most of your life just to eating, growing, and storing resources in your body, then "spend" all the resources you can on reproduction, giving so much of your energy to your babies that it actually kills you. The upside is that this is why most animals make hundreds or even thousands of young in one go, which better guarantees that at least one will survive. Salmon and octopuses are two of the most famous non-insects that do it that way, but so do thousands of other mollusks, fish, members of the various "worm" phyla and others. Many insect groups hyper-streamlined this, so they have a larval stage that's just an eating machine, like caterpillars and maggots, possessing only the bare minimum anatomy they need to keep on eating and growing and nothing else, usually incapable of even traveling from the same food source they were born on. They then use up all of this stored energy to create a body that is perfect for perpetuating their species, including more mobility (such as wings) to spread their population further. Insects exhibit almost every variation there is, but many insect groups hyper-streamlined the basic method so they have a larval stage devoted to non-stop eating, like a caterpillar or a maggot, devoid of any anatomy that does not help it collect all the energy it can as continuously as it can, then use up that energy to build an equally dedicated mating form, which may last only days or weeks because it even gave up the ability to eat as it devoted as much of its body as possible to making those babies in that one big go. There are still many exceptions including insects like cockroaches who mirror the mammal strategy of mating over and over for a relatively "long" adult life, or insects that still only mate the one time, but still at the end of a fairly long adult life that continues to eat and store energy. The most extreme exception to this might be aphids, which continuously develop clone offspring and give live birth to them for their entire life, by which I mean some aphids are born already pregnant with their first clone. These actually still go through a normal mating process too, though, when a winged male finds them near the end of the year, and then they die after laying proper eggs that can survive the winter. The non-stop clone babies are just so that one female has even higher odds of mating with at least one of those males, because now there's 10,000 of her for him to find. To understand basically everything in nature you just have to understand that: 1: life forms actually work like video game characters in that they constantly "farm experience" (nutrient energy) they have to spend on their unique spread of stats and abilities (every body part and system comprising them) 2: every life form evolves as if the only goal of that entire game is to generate offspring and increase the odds of their survival, literally no matter what must be sacrificed.

i started playing rift apart (it's good) and it's making me remember the ratchet and clank moment that lives rent free in my head that no one else in the world seems to remember. which is this promo video cutscene introducing a battle arena in tools of destruction, which briefly, inexplicably, depicts ratchet via... crudely edited mega man 7 sprites? or otherwise an extremely close reproduction of the style? as like a riff on the bob and george era of sprite comics? (this game came out three months after bob and george ended)
as someone who was a kid making sprite comics using edited mega man sprites at the time this made me lose my goddamn mind

Lore Compilations (+ this blog's tagging/filter list at the end)
A WIP of a pinned post table of contents to tidy up the blog while I empty my fixations onto it plus a lore accuracy disclaimer (so I don't have to keep typing one), because why not. I like tables of content.
-
Disclaimer regarding lore accuracy: If you combine 50 years, 5 editions, 10+ settings, god knows how many novels, and then all the writers who all retcon and contradict each other's work then what you get is a clusterfuck. The lore I show here is compiled from all five editions of the game. You will likely see stuff out there that contradicts some things I say, or stuff I didn't mention/know. That's the lore for you. If you were the Dungeon Master making your own story, your job would be to pick and chose and build your own take on the setting out of it. I, personally, heavily favour older lore. Larian absolutely did this with Baldurs Gate 3 - frankly, I don't think they even know half this lore even exists, and Bioware took some liberties in the original games too. Wizards of the Coast themselves trample D&D into the ground all the time! All D&D is near enough fanfiction built on fanfiction. Therefore, if you find any information useful you may take it, leave it or tweak it to your desire for your own story, because it's D&D lore, and that's how it works.

Tagging system:
Various lore things that don't go in the larger compilations are tagged lore stuff. Things that aren't lore will get tagged babbling.
For sensitive material, such as if I feel like poking at the various delightful topics presented in the game:
I'll use edgelord hours as the generic "reader discretion advised"
The tag villainous nonsense means Dead Dove Do Not Eat.
the family circle is an extra warning for discussing the themes and subtexts such as those present with Bhaal's cult and the Bhaalspawn: including reproductive horror and sexual abuse, including the incest.
If I feel like posting anything I scribbled ("art"), the tag will be the scribbles
When I'm making posts and being negative or complaining about video games and trivial stuff, it will be filed as: griping
Whenever I find or consider something new about the Dead Three and/or want to rant and scream insults at Bane again, my tag is the idiot three
When I babble about my characters, I tag it OCs, and the ocs are also tagged by name. So far I've only mentioned Vel
If I don't want to put my babbling about certain characters into the tags, I'll just put the / in front. /astarion, /orin, /gortash, /durge, etc
When I want to babble about stuff happening in my game as I play it, they're tagged playthrough shenanigans
When I start talking about my oc's romance with Astarion I'll tag it petty murder boyfriends

I have a genuine question for pro-Palestine people who have no ties to Palestine. I hope that this sparks some reflection or discussion instead of name calling and mud slinging.
Why are you guys willing to sacrifice anything and everything for Palestine? You're willing to ruin your entire lives, educations, and careers. Some of you have actually said that you're willing to die for this! Why Palestine specifically?
There are numerous genocides and wars going on all over the world. Why the hyperfocus on Palestine as opposed to China, Sudan, Russia, etc? I never see demonstrations for the people being killed or oppressed by those nations. In fact, I've seen a lot of you outright deny the Uyghur genocide and the Holodomor, while simultaneously being willing to redefine the word "genocide" to make it all about Palestine. There's even been outright Holocaust inversion from leftists.
Why have none of you protested and demanded that universities sever ties with Qatar, a nation that uses slave labor to this day and oppresses women and LGBT people? None of you were screaming about boycotting the World Cup either. Qatar is in fact the most prominent donor to American universities. Where are the encampments?
None of you Americans put this much effort in when our reproductive rights were stripped from us. You talked a big game about anti-police brutality protests, but never put everything on the line like you do for Palestine. Why?
Another thing that you guys are willing to sacrifice is your principles. "Believe all women" turned into outright mockery and disbelief, even though there is video proof of Israeli women being raped by Hamas. You guys used to be against nationalism, but now Arab nationalism is okay. Racism was bad once upon a time, but then you decided that mocking Hebrew and Israeli accents is just fine. Why are you willing to engage in this behavior on behalf of Palestine?
This isn't directed towards the normal pro-Palestine crowd. It's specifically addressing those of you (especially westerners) who are willing to sacrifice for Palestine at the expense of everything else. Again, I ask why?

Did somebody say weird dice?
Tumblr media
These came with a poor quality dice cup that I chose over a better one because it said it came with dice. I thought they meant a whole set, but it's a gacha situation, and these are not the most legible.
Tumblr media
Pick a card, any card!
Tumblr media
These are handmade historical reproductions. iirc rosewood with brass pips, maple, and cowbone.
Tumblr media
A blank die. I don't remember if I bought this or if I found it while cleaning my room 🤔
Tumblr media
And a pair of captive dice that my parents bought on a trip to Las Vegas before I was born.
I have some more, but most of them I suspect have been shown here before, although there is one game-specific set I'll have to find for next week. Oh, and I have one more that really needs to be seen in video form, mind if I tag you in a post for it?
Go for it

omegle adventures! featuring gojo satoru & nanami kento (f!reader)
"one day out of boredom, you decide to convince your boyfriend to fuck around on omegle with you"
contains: crack, mentions of male reproductive body party (it's omegle, ifykyk)
Tumblr media
GOJO
Satoru needs almost no convincing to begin his first-ever journey on Omegle with you, even if you warn him about the possible dangers beforehand. He plops down on the couch beside you and swings an arm around your shoulder as he yoinks your laptop in his lap and waits for the site to load, impatiently. You try to hide your laugh the moment your webcam turns on, debating if it was a good idea to introduce your unhinged boyfriend to this even more unhinged website.
For the first couple of minutes, everyone just straight up skips you and Satoru, or the person on the other side simply stares at their phone without saying a word.
"Booooring..." a defeated sigh escapes the tall man as he leans back on the couch, turned to you. It seems only you were aware of the new candidate that just loaded in.
"Yo."
The child sitting in his gaming chair seems rather disinterested as he takes a sip from his energy drink, his eyes drift between his monitor and Satoru, who turns to him with a cocky smile.
"Yo, kiddo. Whatcha' playing?" Satoru asks him with a lot of enthusiasm as he gestures over to the child's monitor that showed the loading screen of a familiar video game. The kid on the other side blinks at least five times as he takes a good look at your boyfriend before he answers with a very unimpressed tone.
"Your hair makes you look like my sisters rat that got electrocuted last week. It climbed behind the fridge and chewed the cable. My dad noticed it because it got stinky."
Satoru is in disbelief, not sure if because of the sudden insult or because of the gruesome story the kid described with a poker face. You hold your tummy as you begin to laugh uncontrollably, which earns you a rather unamused look from your scarred boyfriend.
"I'm playing Fortnite, by the way. I could easily 1v1 you."
That's it, you remembered the name of the familiar game which your boyfriend also plays very enthusiastically every Friday night accompanied by Yuji and Megumi. Which is why Satoru stiffens the moment the child on the other side of the screen states that he would, in fact beat your boyfriend in a 1v1, whatever that means. Their conversation suddenly forms into a heated debate about game's strategies, something about building and nineties, which you didn't really get, so you decided to get up from the couch to get some snacks.
The moment you stretch your legs and stand up, Satoru does so as well with such eagerness it almost knocks you over. He sprints into your living room from where you can hear the beep sound of his PS5 you gifted him for his birthday. For the rest of the evening, Satoru forces you to watch him compete with the kid for hours, whining and kicking as he loses for the 27th time.
Tumblr media
NANAMI
It was a long and especially boring Sunday evening. The weather outside was horrendous, so you decided to stay inside and relax but somehow nothing seemed interesting enough. You tried reading a book, watch a show, even did the dishes while waiting for your long-term boyfriend, Nanami to finally arrive home to no avail as nothing could keep you entertained.
Hours later, he finally steps through the front door and greets you with a loving kiss as he takes off his long, thick coat. "How was your day, sweetheart?"
You explain your unusual boredom to your boyfriend as you lead him to sit on the couch with you and as you serve him some dinner, a genius idea pops into your head. You briefly remember the website you and your best friend used to mess around on when you were kids and thought it would be fun to do the same with Nanami. To your surprise, the exhausted man obliged as he helped you set up the laptop as comfortably as possible while you two cuddled on the couch as none of you intended to change positions.
"Care to elaborate about this...Omegle?" he asks, seemingly curious as he types in the link in the search bar.
"You basically get to talk to random people online, it's fun, kind of." you pause as you remember some of the vile stuff you used to laugh at with your bestie as a teen. "There are a lot of weirdos, though, so beware."
Nanami was about to protest upon hearing your words but it was too late as your webcam loaded in and the first person appeared on the other side. At first, you two could only hear rustling and deep breaths coming from a man, which earned a confused expression from the both of you. As your boyfriend realized what was going on, he angrily skipped the shameful person on the other side, though no avail; for some reason, every creep decided that today was going to be the day, the perfect day for them to stroke their soggy dicks on Omegle. Of course, most of them landed in your chatroom, how convenient.
However, your boyfriend - despite the uncomfortable looks and disgusted sighs - still decided not to throw away the laptop and sanitize his eyeballs with bleach. That, until one particular face appeared on the screen, grinning at Nanami like some kind of maniac. Your boyfriend's eyes widen in shock and despair as soon as he realizes the identity of the white-haired man staring back him like a demon from hell.
"Nanami?? Y/N? No way, who would've thought I'd run into my good frien-"
Nanami quickly shuts the screen of the laptop, almost breaking it the moment he hears Satoru's excruciatingly exciting shriek. He just can't escape him even in his own home, can he?
"Honey, are you okay?" You ask while trying not to burst from the laugh that slowly but steadily creeps up from the depths of your stomach as he looks at you with a defeated expression on his handsome face.
"Grab your coat." he states out of the blue as he stands up and grabs his car keys.
