Hogwarts Legacy - Tips and Tricks
WARNING: May contain spoilers for Hogwarts Legacy
Personal experience, this does not reference videos
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
• You can skip most of the dialogue if you don't want to hear it again (since you can't skip the tutorial segment of the game). You can do this with triangle (PlayStation), RMB (PC), or Y button (Xbox)
• Keep stocked up on Wiggenweld potions. These, even though they don't do a lot, will help you immensely.
• Thunderbrew is useful against the Graphorn. It makes storm clouds float above the player and damages nearby enemies.
• Don't worry; Sebastian, Natty and Poppy can take care of themselves and they don't have health bars. You don't have to worry about them.
• The RoR is SO useful, it's not even funny. After a quest with Deek, you'll have vivariums to maintain beasts, and you can get materials from them. This place also allows you to identify unidentified gear, upgrade gear, brew potions, grow magical plants, and you can customize it. Love this place.
• It's impossible to stop Sebastian from doing anything; just be careful how you respond. You'll see, if you don't already know what I'm talking about.
• You cannot be "evil" in the game, canonically. You can just be an absolute sleazeball, though. Don't worry, you'll keep your friends (somehow).
• Speaking of dialogue, your actions really don't have much impact on anything. Of course, it will influence how characters react to you, but there's really no consequences for your responses.
• Speaking of consequences, there's none of you use an unforgivable curse. If you're on PC, there's an Azkaban mod that allows you to be caught with dark magic and sent to Azkaban, just in case you want more realism.
• As for realism, you don't actually have a curfew. You can walk around all willy-nilly in the middle of the night with no repercussions. The person who made the Azkaban mod has a curfew mod that allows you to get caught at night, if you want the extra challenge.
• No, I'm not sponsored.
• Solomon Sallow will hate you regardless of your actions. You're friends with Sebastian, that's why. Don't take it personally.
• Brooms fly faster than hippogriffs, but hippogriffs ascend and descend faster than brooms.
• Rare events occur, such as the train at King's Cross Station arriving and leaving, the kraken saying hello in the lake (scripted event during the flying class), a suit of armor getting annoyed with another and turns the aggressive nudge into full-blown murder, amongst other things.
• Unsure what it is, but sometimes you'll find a ridiculous amount of dark witches and wizards in and around the Forbidden Forest... They won't hurt you, and you can't hurt them, but they're there.
• Speaking of the Forbidden Forest, there are a LOT of spiders. If you don't like them, are scared of them, have arachnophobia, etc., there's an "arachnophobia mode" in the settings, so they're less scary. Alternatively, there's a PC mod that turns them into burgers. This is good if you don't even want a slight resemblance of a spider in the arachnophobia mode.
• No, I'm not sponsored
• Sometimes, NPCs will describe you based on your hogwarts house (this can be seen in the "Minding Your Own Business" DLC quest in Hogsmeade)
• All four houses have their own quests (though they tie in to the same character and quest at the end).
• There are plenty of Easter eggs referencing the movies (one being the Shrieking Shack on the map in Hogsmeade where the Old Fool house is, just on the outskirts of Hogsmeade).
• Don't worry, Ravenclaw, you don't have to answer riddles every time you want to enter your common room.
That's all I got, homies
(P.S. Slytherin is the best house -from a very unbiased Slytherin)
I went down the PS2 Emulating/Reproduction Rabbit Hole so you don’t have to:
And here’s how to get your favorite PS2 games for cheap.
I was just gifted a used PS2 for my birthday which made me SO excited… until I looked up the cost of a lot of the games I want to play. Titles like Silent Hill 2 & 3 go for about $100 (USD) typically and the game I’ve been hunting for, Blood Will Tell, averages anywhere between $450- $700. Because these titles didn’t sell well initially but are popular now/have a sense of rarity to them, they cost a fortune. So do you spend a fortune on getting them or live without playing them?
Neither!
You emulate them or buy from a professional reproducer!
What is emulating?
According to Wikipedia the definition is: “in computing, an emulator is hardware or software that enables one computer system to behave like another computer system. An emulator typically enables the host system to run software or use peripheral devices designed for the guest system.”
TLDR; emulating (in video game terms) is taking a game and playing it on either a system it wasn’t originally made for OR a country/region it wasn’t designed to launch in.
Is emulation illegal?
No, emulating a game isn’t illegal. The only part that would be considered “illegal” is if you don’t own the actual ROM/game you’re emulating. For example, if I download Silent Hill 2 for free off the internet and emulate it on my PS2, that’s considered piracy because I didn’t actually buy the game.
Do I suggest emulating on the PS2, if not what is another option?
No, there’s something you can do that’s a lot easier than emulation. Emulation typically is for playing old games on a new system, commonly a PC. It takes a lot of software/hardware know-how to do and the average joe (me) doesn’t have that.
Another option is buying a reproduction and a reproducer. This requires a rapport with a third party professional and a the right system.
What is video game reproduction?
Reproduction is when a creator completely reproduces a game and burns it onto a disk, making multiple copies off of one game and making them available across different models and regions of the same system. In order to use the reproduction, one needs to download a software on their system that allows you to run homebrew/reproduced content.
Is reproducing a game illegal?
Well… yes. But the brunt of the legal ramifications is on the vendor and there has been no case of a person being charged with buying a reproduced game. Think of it as going to 9anime.to and watching a pirated anime, you’re watching pirated content which is illegal. But 9anime is providing that content and has the target on their back. The vendor I’ll be suggesting is literally on Etsy and has been for years, so that’s how little this is enforced.
If you’re paranoid about this then I obviously don’t suggest this option, I suggest trying to emulate the game but that means you’ll be buying whatever it is at full price. I’m just a random person on tumblr so you don’t have to listen to me at all lmao.
Here’s a screenshot of a reddit thread discussing this practice:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
What reproducer do I suggest?
AndresCustoms on Etsy/Facebook Marketplace! He tests his products on many different systems from various different regions. He has an 4.8 star average review. I’ve read the review comments, consumers a very impressed with his work and he actively responds to his reviews. Andre also is easy to get in touch with if you have any questions on how to set up his FMCB cards or games. He only accepts refunds for defect disks of his, since that is his fault. Besides games he sells (average of $25) he also sells the hardware that allows you to play them, they’re FMCB cards ($15) all you do is stick one into the controller port and it’s good to go.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
What to look out for with reproductions?
I don’t recommend buying off Ebay, they have a fraud department but you’re likely getting overcharged for what youre buying. The largest portion of scams are on Ebay.
Scammers often sell reproductions for the cost of the real game titles, not only are you paying way more than it’s worth many of these tend to not work well or at all. That’s why reputable vendors who openly claim to be professional reproducers and have multiple ratings by real customers (i.e. AndresCustoms) are very important to consider when getting reproductions. Never buy a game that is inflated far above market price, unless it is mint condition and graded for collection purposes.
TLDR FOR ENTIRE POST:
PS2 games cost a shit ton of money these days
Emulation is mostly used to play retro games on modern devices, usually PCs
Emulation is hard to do unless you have technical know-how
Legal emulation requires the purchase of an authentic game
Reproduction is illegal under piracy laws
Reproduction under a reputable vendor can be a cheap way to get your favorite retro games and still run as if they where authentic copies
Keep your eye out for scams
Just a reminder to those that are new to the Obey Me games overall, make sure you upgrade both your Demon cards (which are your big battle cards) as well as your Memory cards. Even though the memory cards are support, they are still important in providing additional boosts, such as increasing your health by 6% or increases your score by 40% for every 20 combo, as they can definitely change your outcome.
It's also important to have high stat cards of at least one card per character, as you can only have one card of a certain character in battle at a time (you can't use two Mammons at once or two Lucifers, etc).
Upgrading also consists of both leveling up the card as well as doing the Devil's Tree. Leveling up will allow you to unlock higher tiers of the Devil Tree, which will provide mini boosts of power to your cards.
If there's anything I've missed, of course feel free to add in additions, but this is what I've gathered so far!
Anyone who is using PS5 Baldur Gates playthrough of the underdark with the Arcane tower; I have found a solution. I am playing under the setting explorer it should be easier, but definitely doesn't feel easier. Anyway, what you want to do is loot everybody farm up some gold cause you're going to need it. Go to the Ware selling people and get misty steps, feather flight, invisible scoll and invisible potions.
You are then going to use Astarion and split him from the group. Get close to edge of the brick wall and don't be spotted or else your going to have to restart a save file. Once he is close to that edge, either take the invisible potions or invisible spell and walk over to the side of the tower with the mushrooms. The you are going to jump your way to the back of the tower.
Once at the back of the tower, get the draining flower unlock the door using Astarion to lockpick it and put it in the machine. It should close or shut down all turrets, and you are free to explore the tower.
Tips on playing games with international servers
It can be quite awkward to manage and learn the foreign affairs of other cultures while playing on international serves. I myself have made plenty of embarrassing mistakes or fallen to the awkwardness of human interaction.
Luckily tho I've learned a lot, so here's what I figured out.
Tumblr media
#1 Delete All Stereotypes from  your mind as soon as you meet someone
I know its tempting to always fall back on stereotypes, it is how the human psyche tries to understand the umbrellas of vast cultures very different from our own. More people hold stereotypes than they think. This applies to more “positive” stereotypes too.
Just throw them away the best you can!
#2 If you don’t know someone’s name don’t call them by their nationality
You would expect this to be common sense, but it truly isn’t, especially on servers with younger audiences available. Being referred to as “Brit” “American” “Japanese Girl” instantly makes the person being referred to on high alert.
Just don’t do it. Pretty pls.
#3 Know the game itself’s culture
Making edgy jokes or slightly offensive jokes can vary in reception game to game. Acting purposefully in stereotypical ways also works to be very hilarious and appropriate in certain gaming settings. The players of war thunder, call of duty, and Arma 3 respond very differently to these things compared to Sky: Children of the Light, or Animal Crossing.
Take the time to notice what is acceptable in the game’s community, and what obviously isn’t.
#4 Ignore world tensions and don’t bring them up
Playing online means you can run into people from countries that have threatening past, difficult livelihoods, or potential trauma (possibly caused by your own country’s actions). Ignore that matter immediately, and don’t let it discourage you  from communicating with other players.
Don’t bring up the world tensions, touchy historical subjects, or ask political questions. People get on video games often to escape. Asking a Chinese player about their opinions on Taiwan on precedented is interrupting their escaping.
#5 The Language Barrier
Language barriers are difficult to overcome. Here’s a bunch of quick tips.
Practice learning languages on your own time
Don’t be afraid to practice with others online
If using a translator make sure the translator is decent enough that conversation is normal, understand your translator’s limits
Talk more simplistically with people who are having a hard time. Not in a way where it seems that you are talking down to them.
Use less slang and local sayings
Be patient and understanding
Don’t make fun of someone’s broken language skills
Possibly find a different language the group agrees on
Use the game’s emotes, technology, and controls to convey communication, if silent players can do it, so can you
