VENUS IN THE FIRST HOUSE

Venus in the first house + pos aspected is a great placement to have romantically, but it's not a deep indicator of love. The closer Venus is to the House's ascendant, the stronger this is felt. The Venus person will find the House person very appealing and will love being around them and getting the chance to show them off. They're likely to be the "ideal" of the Venus person. The House person in turn feels more confident when they're around the Venus person due to being placed on a pedestal. If the House person is naturally inclined to more insecure tendencies, they can feel seen for the first time. It can feel refreshing for the House person to not feel the need to try so hard to be accepted as the Venus person will be blinded from the negative sides of the House person.

Negatively aspected we see the possibility of one trying to change the other. Venus may find the House person to be close to their ideal but not quite. If the House person has an empty first house natally, they may try to mold them or only like them for superficial reasons. They may not like the way the House person comes off to the general public. Depending on the House person's chart they may change parts of themselves without even realizing it or begin to resent Venus. They may feel as though they have to be presentable at all times for the acceptance of Venus which can grow tiring.

VENUS IN THE SECOND HOUSE

Venus in the 2nd house + pos aspected shows two people who feel very secure with one another. This can be a very sensual position for Venus if other aspects allow. It can be a very "we" centered position where both parties take into account the other person. Venus can help the House person realize their value, and turn that value into something tangible which makes them feel more confident. They both may shower each other with gifts. They may love the finer things in life, the same vintage wine, the best restaurant in town, etc. At its best Venus will feel highly valued by the House person and be a key to unlocking new doors.

Negatively aspected, The House person may feel taken for granted, or as though they have to bail the Venus person out of situations a lot. The Venus person may not value the House very much, or see them as a tool rather than a person. The House person may find that the Venus person asks for too much, or feels too entitled to them. It can turn pretty possessive at times with both parties somehow feeling entitled to the other or as though they owe them something.

VENUS IN THE THIRD HOUSE

Venus in the 3rd house + pos aspected can be a dream for the communication between two people when it comes to matters of the heart. They may speak very politely to one another, and try to speak kindly. This is especially true if Venus is positively aspecting Mercury. Venus will find the way the House person communicates to be very attractive and find them to have a pleasing voice in general. The energy is very light-hearted and easy. Venus may fall in love with the way the House person's mind works. While not a necessarily romantic placement, for those who are Mercury dominant, this can be intoxicating. Venus could even write the House person love letters. The House person may encourage the Venus person to speak more freely and openly. They may love reading poetry together or books. Both will love absorbing information to talk to the other person about.

Negatively aspected, we can see all sorts of issues arising with communication in general. Neither party feeling able to openly speak with the other can start a breeding ground of insecurity and gossip. Verbal altercations will feel uncomfortable, so Venus will turn away from them and gloss them over. Over time like paint on a vehicle, they will chip away at each other without ever openly getting to the root of the issue. Mind games and a "he said she said" mentality may feel frequent.

VENUS IN THE FOURTH HOUSE

Venus in the 4th house + pos aspected can be quite romantic. The Venus person may finally feel "home" in a sense with the House person. They may see the House person as the ideal when it comes to a mate to build a family with, especially if they are Cancer dominant. Venus may effortlessly fit into the House person's home and family. The two may have been childhood friends. The House person may have an easy time relating to the childhood of the Venus person and have grown up themselves in a similar way. This can create a deep bond between two people that is usually quite devoted. Regardless of what the definition of home is to them, they'll find it with each other.

Negatively aspected can show a great deal of hesitancy. Venus may have a lot of walls up around the House person. They may not get along with the House person's family or have different ideals of what home and family mean to them. Or they may not enjoy living with each other in general, with constant disagreements on how things in the home need to be handled. Conflicting traditions. Moods between the two may fluctuate greatly and there can be a sense of instability.

VENUS IN THE FIFTH HOUSE

Venus in the 5th house + pos aspected can be a lot of fun. The two may have more fun with each other than they have with people in the past. Romance and fun go hand and hand when the two are around each other. Venus may look forward to dates with the House person in fervent excitement. The sexual tension here can be strong. This can be a very rewarding overlay for two people. Venus will never grow tired of what the House person has planned for them, and the love built can be very enduring. Venus may be possessive of the House person but instead of it feeling toxic, they'll find it to be a show of love. If they have children, they could have disagreements revolving around them.

I'll spare my usual "I liked them before they became famous" hipster music rant about the alt-indie bands I come across but my god boygenius' newest album fucks so hard I wish I still had my car just to be able to drive around screaming the lyrics to Not Strong Enough.

#late night ramblings #im annoyed that all the bands/solo acts i like get popular because i can never get tickets (at a reasonable price) to their tours anymore #its happening with transviolet too now and theyre so fucking good live #the japanese house as well although shes more popular in the uk than the us but its im convinced its just a matter of time #im happy for them being successful and getting their music out to wider crowds but i miss the small club shows with three encores for $20 #i miss being recongized if they come back to the same cities multiple times over the course of a few years #now it seems like if i want to go see any band its a minimum $75 outing usually more and the crowds haslve somehow gotten worse?#as in both numbers and quality. i used to be able to just vibe with whoever i was next too and we would bond for the night #then never see each other again but that was fine. now no one wants to even talk to anyone outside their group (unless theyre being a creep)#and venues are either stadium sized or way too small now. theres no in-between anymore #probably due to covid stuff but its disappointing #i dont even get super into the music scenes either i cant imagine what live music heads have been going through

You know... I had an experience about two months ago that I didn't talk about publicly, but I've been turning it over and over in my mind lately and I guess I'm finally able to put my unease into words.

So there's a podcast I'd been enjoying and right after I got caught up, they announced that they were planning on doing a live show. It's gonna be near me and on the day before my birthday and I thought -- hey, it's fate.

But... as many of you know, I'm disabled. For me, getting to a show like that has a lot of steps. One of those steps involved emailing the podcasters to ask about accessibility for the venue.

The response I got back was very quick and very brief. Essentially, it told me to contact the venue because they had no idea if it was accessible or not.

It was a bucket of cold water, and I had a hard time articulating at the time quite why it was so disheartening, but... I think I get it a little more now.

This is a podcast that has loudly spoken about inclusivity and diversity and all that jazz, but... I mean, it's easy to say that, isn't it? But just talking the talk without walking the walk isn't enough. That's like saying "sure, we will happily welcome you in our house -- if you can figure out how to unlock the door."

And friends, my lock-picking set is pretty good by this point. I've been scouting out locations for decades. I've had to research every goddamn classroom, field trip, and assigned bookstore that I've ever had in an academic setting. I've had to research every movie theater, theme park, and menu for every outing with friends or dates. I spend a long time painstakingly charting out accessible public transportation and potential places to sit down every time I leave the house.

Because when I was in college, my professors never made sure their lesson plans were accessible. (And I often had to argue with them to get the subpar accommodations I got.) Because my friends don't always know to get movie tickets for the accessible rows. Because my dates sometimes leave me on fucking read when I ask if we can go to a restaurant that doesn't keep its restrooms down a flight of stairs.

I had one professor who ever did research to see if I could do all the coursework she had planned, and who came up with alternate plans when she realized that I could not. Only one. It was a medical history and ethics class, and my professor sounded bewildered as she realized how difficult it is to plan your life when you're disabled.

This woman was straight-up one of the most thoughtful, philosophical, and ethical professors I've ever had, one who was incredibly devoted to diversity and inclusion -- and she'd never thought about it before, that the hospital archives she wanted us to visit were up a flight of stairs. That the medical museum full of disabled bodies she wanted us to visit only had a code-locked back entrance and an old freight elevator for their disabled guests who were still breathing.

And that's the crux of it, isn't it? It's easy to theoretically accept the existence of people who aren't like you. It's a lot harder to actively create a space in which they can exist by your side.

Because here's what I did before I contacted the podcasters. I googled the venue. I researched the neighborhood and contacted a friend who lives in the area to help me figure out if there were any accessible public transportation routes near there. (There aren't.) I planned for over an hour to figure out how close I could get before I had to shell out for an uber for the last leg of the trip.

Then I read through the venue's website. I looked through their main pages, through their FAQs to see if there was any mention of accessibility. No dice. I download their packet for clients and find out that, while the base building is accessible, the way that chairs/tables are set up for individual functions can make it inaccessible. So it's really up to who's hosting the show there.

So then and only then I contacted the podcasters. I asked if the floor plan was accessible. I asked if all the seats were accessible, or only some, and whether it was open seating or not. Would I need to show up early to get an accessible seat, or maybe make a reservation?

And... well, I got the one-sentence reply back that I described above. And that... god, it was really disheartening. I realized that they never even asked if their venues were accessible when they were booking the shows. I realized that they were unwilling to put in the work to learn the answers to questions that disabled attendees might have. I realized that they didn't care to find out if the building was accessible.

They didn't know and they didn't care. That, I think, is what took the wind out of my sails when they emailed me back. It's what made me decide that... yeah, I didn't really want to go through the trouble of finding an accessible route to the venue. I didn't want to have to pay an arm and a leg to hire a car to take me the last part of the journey. I didn't want to make myself frantic trying to figure out if I could do all that and still make the last train home.

If they didn't care, I guess I didn't either.

If they'd apologized and said that the only venue they could get was inaccessible, I actually would have understood. I know that small shows don't always get their pick of venues. I get it. I even would have understood if they'd been like "oh dang, I actually don't know -- but I'll find out."

But to be told that they didn't know and didn't intend to find out... oof. That one stung.

Because.... this is the thing. This is the thing. I may be good at it by now, but I'm so tired of picking locks. I'm tired of doing all the legwork because no one ever thinks to help me. I'm tired of feeling like an afterthought at best, or at worst utterly unwelcome.

If you truly want to be inclusive, you need to stop telling people that you're happy to have them -- if they can manage to unlock the door. You need to fucking open it yourself and welcome them in.

What brought all this back to me now, you may be asking? Well... I guess it's just what I was thinking to myself as I was tidying up my phone.

Today I'm deleting podcasts.
