I'm getting tired of this trend of batman (and superman) being slotted into the "strawman" or "stern authority figure" role when it makes no sense in the story or with the character's history. It's clear the writers want to prop up a character by having them stand up to an established hero (or in the case of Paige, use Clark to put pressure on her) but they don't consider the character they're using to make this point. And yeah, who cares if the 2 biggest heroes of all time take hits in someone else's book. But it's insulting to the reader to throw character consistency out the window

Out this week: Unstoppable Doom Patrol (DC, $16.99):
This collects last year’s Unstoppable Doom Patrol miniseries, which spun out of the events of the Lazarus Planet crossover that kicked off the Dawn of DC initiative. While that might sound complicated, I think the important thing to know here is that Dennis Culver and Chris Burnham created an accessible reboot of the Doom Patrol, bringing back old favorites and introducing several new ones, while keeping things both weird and fun.
See what else is arriving at your local comic shop this week!

I haven't seen anyone talking about it on here, but Unstoppable Doom Patrol #6 and the latest Halloween special (DC's Ghouls Just Wanna Have Fun) have basically confirmed Dorothy and Kate are still dead.
The former has Dorothy's corpse being dug up by the Brotherhood of Evil as part of a ritual for General Immortus to gain the Candlemaker's powers. In the latter, Cliff is haunted by the ghosts of everyone associated with the Doom Patrol who died, starting with Kate and Dorothy.
It legitimately upsets me that editorial decided to keep these two dead as a plot device to make Cliff sad and for conflict. While the Halloween special is more humanizing than their appearance as ghoulish apparitions in the Knight Terrors event, it's hard to accept it when it came AFTER I tried to get the two back in last year's Pride anthology.
However, the Halloween story is a special kind of aggravating because it goes out of its way to acknowledge Celsius and Negative Woman are both still alive again, Arani with the Doomed and Valentina with the Peoples' Heroes as they were in Doomsday Clock. Cliff even asks how they came back in the first place.
I guess those two weren't important enough to keep dead.

A big shout out to @dennisculver and Chris Burnham for Unstoppable Doom Patrol #6.
The issue reminds me of the Silver Age Doom Patrol run where villains attacked heroes over madcap evil schemes, triggering lavish pages full of hero-on-villain brawls. In the fine old tradition of Doom Patrol it's a rollicking read with some excellent character moments and enough space for every character to shine.
Including Gemini! Chris Burnham's work is fantastic, including a great panel where she takes on three of Flex Force at once (with her hair!) and giant stomps Flex Mentallo while fighting Elasti-Woman at the same time. She really is the deadliest DC character you've never heard of.
