Ohh boy. Where I work, you have to submit your vacation days way ahead. In 2020, I schedule election week off, because I knew I was going to be useless at work anyways. This week, no where near as bad, but damned if the anxiety doesn't still try to eat my brain. So let's get cozy with a "slice of life" podcast. Let's talk about Still Live at Midnight (@stilllivepod ). Still Live a Midnight is a cozy fiction podcast about the late shift of a small town radio station, circa 1980. Hampton-on-Sea is a lovely little UK town, everyone says so, as does the crew of the local radio station. Follow along their lives as they help friends and strangers, experience love and loss. The crew is a family. A family that bickers over McCartney albums, goes to the movies (Star Wars is pretty great), rescues pirate radio DJs, and supports each other when they meet exs, get stuck in elevators--whatever life sends their way! 6, 30 minute episodes to make you forget your GOP woes, heck make you forget you're in the US. Many thanks for that! So, if you like the fiction equivalent of a weighted blanket, a dash of light romance, or all things "slice of life", then Still Live at Midnight is for you! *Edit* I mistakenly stated they were on the audioverse list, but they weren't. I put it in the wrong folder in my Pocketcasts. That said, it's a fun show, and if some of those other pods can make it on there 👀, then Still Live more than deserves a nomination! The C Word blog will start with a story with C for 'Containment';

Believing Lies & the Perception of Truth

Truth and Lie are relaxing by the river. Lie says to Truth 'Why don't we take a bath together?' Truth agrees and they both go for a dip in the water. When Truth looks back he realises Lie has leapt out of the water and taken all of Truths clothes with him.

Mortified Truth climbs out of the river wondering how to get home? Lie had taken all of his possessions! Truth covers up its modesty with leaves and whatever it can find. Ducking and diving and avoiding people, Truth walks home confused as to what just happened.

Truth comes home to realise the door is locked and Truth can't get in. Truth peers into the window and horrified, sees Lie in the house on truths computer, in Truths clothes, with Truths items, eating Truths food.

Truth bangs on the door and Lie answers, looking at Truth holding a glass in its hand.

Truth yells 'Lie!! What are you doing? You are in my house, wearing my clothes, you are on my computer with my work, you are eating my food. Why Lie??'

Lie looks at him. 'Who's going to believe you?'

Lie turns to a passer by, ' Excuse me, This naked fellow is saying this house is his. Who's house is this? '

The passer by looked at Lie and says 'Well it must be yours'.

Lie asks ' Why?'

The passer-by says' Well, you are wearing fancy clothes, you are standing in the doorway holding the glass. I perceive you to be telling the truth.'

I have read two examples of this story online. Iyanla Vanzant discusses this in a youtube video; why 'we always believe lies before the naked truth' (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KaAUvDd2yFQ) and Kishore Shintre in his Linkedin article 'World prefers lies to naked truth' (www.linkedin.com/pulse/world-prefers-lies-naked-truth-kishore-shintre).

How much of social media and news journalism today represents this society; watching different forms of lie running around the world as truth? Which communities does this suit and how much truth filters into media and tv entertainment in a post covid world? Does media justify a system that shames and profits from the naked truth; trying to suppress it, profiting from creating shame and above all; contain and control?

This premise is so important to current online interaction and to us as a society. The C word came to exist as a counter opposite to this. A media which has insights, constantly learning from mistakes and the original source of many innovative ideas and discussions happening online today.

I hope we will provide the real innovation and excitement that you are all looking for.

Trusting God

Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God. Psalm 20:7

I needed two medications urgently. One was for my mum’s allergies and the other for my niece’s eczema. Their discomfort was worsening, but the medicines were no longer available in pharmacies. Desperate and helpless, I prayed repeatedly, Lord, please help them.

Weeks later, their conditions became manageable. God seemed to be saying: “There are times when I use medicines to heal. But medicines don’t have the final say; I do. Don’t place your trust in them, but in Me.”

In Psalm 20, King David took comfort in God’s trustworthiness. The Israelites had a powerful army, but they knew that their biggest strength came from “the name of the Lord” (v. 7). They placed their trust in God’s name—in who He is, His unchanging character and His unfailing promises. They held on to the truth that He who is sovereign and powerful over all situations would hear their prayers and deliver them from their enemies (v. 6).

While God may use the resources of this world to help us, ultimately, victory over our problems comes from Him. Whether He gives us a resolution or the grace to endure, we can trust that He’ll be to us all that He says He is. We don’t have to be overwhelmed by our troubles, but we can face them with His hope and peace.

SCRIPTURE INSIGHT

A careful reading reveals that Psalms 20 and 21 are related. Psalm 20 is a prayer for the protection (vv. 1–2) and victory of the king, God’s anointed (vv. 6, 9). The prayer of the psalmist, “Lord, give victory to the king! Answer us when we call!” (v. 9) is shown to be answered in Psalm 21. There, in a more direct way, the writer talks to God about His dealings with the king (vv. 1–7) and his enemies (vv. 8–12). The idea of trusting in God (20:7) is reiterated in 21:7: “For the king trusts in the Lord; through the unfailing love of the Most High he will not be shaken.” Psalm 20 closes with petition and Psalm 21 with praise: “Be exalted in your strength, Lord; we will sing and praise your might” (v. 13).
