It’s midnight and I should be in bed but I was hit with piranha plant fakemon inspiration so i sketched up these so I wouldn’t forget
Regional variant of Mawile (took major toad inspo since it was the first Mario npc I thought of but I’ll probably change it idk) and an unnamed fakemon that can suck itself in to its shell/planter to zoom around really fast and hit enemies

a weird little thing abt me is i will definitely mock shitty ai art but it never feels right doing it about the hands simply by virtue of the fact that a lot of them look indistinguishable from the hands i was doing years ago when i first got a drawing tablet

Do you have any tips for when designing poc characters?? Like what not or to do, etc.
this is massively edited down to just keep the essentials. this isn't going to be as explicit as you were maybe wanting but saying "don't draw black characters this way, don't draw asian characters that way" isn't something i wanna do because it's not a good feeling to review a list of offensive design practices from a trauma standpoint and likely wouldn't be for any other people of color reading.
study from real photos.
really, any set of photos of people of color work but if you want a resource where people are not models nor actors that have been plucked up for their marketableness, here's a good site: Humanae — Angélica Dass (angelicadass.com) it's a photography collection associated with pantone to showcase diversity in shades of skin.
study faces within a group.
no two ppl look the same and character design is about showcasing this through certain features.
from these, study how much differently color works for melanated/non-white skin.
again, it's different for everyone even within groups. admittedly this is only something you'd need if you have a more in-depth or painterly style, but still. avoid grayish base skin tones. the aforementioned site is actually great for this.
LOOK INTO RACIST CARICATURES.
literally, people wouldn't find themselves "accidentally" slipping into racist designs if they just KNEW, explicitly knew, and internally acknowledged what people of color find offensive or what has been used against them in depictions of themselves.
yes, this includes looking at the old offensive cartoons, illustrations, etc. it's painful and uncomfortable and rough but it must be understood how these caricatures were a means of dehumanization and are mistakes to be learned from.
again, i'm not gonna list out exactly how not to depict a black person, an asian person, jewish person, latine, middle eastern, etc. etc. etc., because i feel these things should just be known, but if it's not, literally just be aware (or get aware) of the racial stigma faced by the group of people you are attempting to represent. put care into how you are depicting them.
BUT ALSO KEEP IN MIND: you shouldn't jump to default to white eurocentric features simply to "avoid" the any sort of backlash or offense that may be taken. because if you do so, a) in attempting to not be offensive, you're still perpetuating the upholding and favoring of white eurocentric features, and b) well, you're just stifling yourself.
designing characters of color REQUIRES acknowledgement of non-eurocentric features; hell, in the best cases, it's a celebration of these features.
as you would in replicating a style of architecture, a technique of painting, a depiction of a culture, you have to observe and become knowledgeable.
addendum: obviously, i'm not white, so i don't know the depths of how pervasive racism and white supremacy can be in a white person's personal life and upbringing; but i do know that racism and white supremacy are pervasive even (ESPECIALLY) in art, a much more tangible and permanent thing than a state of being, and knowing this, i do reserve a small margin of patience for white folks that are wanting to try to be in the know on this topic, especially younger people who have yet to unlearn certain things. if anyone reads this and thinks "well, it's not their responsibility or any person of color's to teach you these things," you're correct, but yknow. the effort's there, and trying's all we can do.

He’d honestly probs love having you around because of how energetic u can be sometimes

sorry for making yet another textpost but i came across that post saying they dislike transfem natsume because he "canonically hates being perceived as a girl and tries to erase all sorts of memories related to that" and also went on to shame genderbends of him aswell. So, as someone who not only draws genderbends of natsume but is myself someone who is nonbinary and hates being perceived as a woman, i thought id offer my two cents
first of all; i think its important to note that natsume does NOT hate his childhood. in fact, hes quite happy that he had such an unusual upbringing!
what natsume hates is being perceived as weak. thats why he was raised as a girl after all, it was his mother trying to protect him from evil spirits. he doesnt hate the whole "-chan" or "wearing dresses" thing because he has a hatred for womanhood, its because due to his upbringing hes now come to associate those things as being weak. he begs tsumugi to forget about it because that means tsumugi remembers natsume being weak, and natsume thinks tsumugi still referring to him as "natsume-chan" means he still sees natsume as weak. (iirc natsume did however once say that he is a little sad that he doesnt really know how to relate to young boys due to this in poltergeist, but i couldnt find the exact quote. either way that just adds to the complexity of natsumes relationship with his childhood, because while he is happy to be "abnormal" in that sense, it has left him lacking in some areas)
i have to ask though, should this conflict of his not be something we hope he overcomes? should we not want him to develop a healthy relationship with various gender expressions? should we not want natsume to overcome his belief that feminine things = weakness? i want natsume to reach a point where he can wear feminine clothing and not feel like some damsel in distress because of it. i want natsumes character to grow. i want him to develop a positive relationship with his gender because natsume DOES enjoy some more typically feminine things, like baking! he used to bake with his mom when he was little! and i want him to feel like he can indulge in that side of him without feeling insecure.....
i LOVE transmasc natsume, my primary hc for him is transmasc nonbinary after all, but with all these things considered, shouldnt people be allowed to headcanon him however they want? if they hear his story and negative relationship with femininity and how that resonates with them and they themselves are transfem, should they not be allowed to hc him as such too?
which brings me to my next point; my own personal relationship with gender and femininity. i was raised as a girl and i fucking DESPISED womanhood. i hated everything about it. i hated how i felt forced into a box i didnt want to be stuck in, and i hated how it felt like my whole life had already been planned out for me due to societal expectations, aswell as me needing to present a certain way. i was peak "tomboy" growing up, constantly wearing super baggy clothes and wouldnt even brush my hair alot of the time. but despite that i remained miserable. i frankly hated how i looked and would constantly dye my hair vibrant colors in an attempt to make me like myself a little more. it wasnt until i realized "wow, im actually not a girl at all" that i finally let go of believing i needed to look a certain way (and thus, defying it) and started to dress for myself. i started to dress in clothes that made me happy and feel pretty! alot of which leans feminine, but clothes doesnt have a gender, and how you dress doesnt define your gender either, but it can still be a bit scary yknow? especially since i dont want people to think of me as a girl, and drawing a bunch of femstars has really made me learn to love myself more in a funny way. i can put these characters in clothes i think are beautiful, i can explore the more feminine parts of me that i adore but dont want to express in public due to how i want others to perceive me, but it has also warmed me up to femininity even more. because femstars to me feels detached from the expectations of society because its not a real thing!! there are no canon femstars designs!!! i can do literally whatever the hell i want with it and its been so liberating to me!!
all this to say; i think it really sucks seeing the way this fandom treats transfem hcs and explicit genderbends, because like ive said before; they can truly be something so personal. you dont know why that person is drawing what theyre drawing, so its a little unwise to make assumptions based on ........ Well, whatever it may be. i know very well that women dressing the way society expects them to SUCKS, esp if you have personal ties to it, but you have to realize the issue isnt femininity, but misogyny.

Then this guy walks in wearing a literal suit of armor. It’s bright blue. He’s got long pinkish hair and golden horns. Are those freaking gargoyles on his shoulders.
he asks for four turtles.
Sure, whatever. New York be like that sometimes. You get him four turtles, different types. While you’re, like, ringing up the turtles or w/ever, he starts droning on about how he’s going to mutate them into the greatest warriors in the universe and use them to reclaim his peoples’ rightful place on the surface
you aren’t really paid enough for this, but honestly it’s either this or freaking McDonald’s, so you deal with it
guy takes his turtles and leaves
maybe you mostly forget
maybe it keeps you up a few nights, idk
you get fired four months later in an incident that Totally wasn’t your fault but the managers just saw thirty hamsters dyed bright pink and jumped to conclusions, yknow? That’s how it be sometimes
Anyways, picture about 3 years later
you pick up a part time delivery job at a pizza place. Not ideal, but when you’ve been blacklisted from the majority of businesses in your general area, beggars can’t be choosers. Anyways, a guy asks for 3 large pizzas. You can hear kids yelling in the background. He sounds tired. Mood.
then he asks you to leave them in an alleyway near a manhole.
uhhhhh
look, you’re dead inside from customer service, but you’ve still got a Little of that investigative spirit that got you expelled from that fancy smancy high school sophomore year
So you wait
A rat man (!!?!???) emerges from the sewer, holding a very small toddler that’s also a turtle (?!???!?)
Wait.
wait.
wait.
that guy from the pet store.
no way.
Anyways, it takes a lot of yelling, panic, a few ninja moves (??) and some really awful lies from the rat man, but they manage to talk it out. It helps when one bawling turtle kiddo quiets after a couple minutes of the April O’Neil flair. (For once’s she’s grateful for her many younger cousins)
besides, she’s basically their aunt at this point. She sold them to the goat man, so she kinda counts. She’s pretty sure Rat Man- Splints- is just glad to have some help wrangling the disasters. He pays her nicely for her services, which is great, so she drops the other jobs and babysits mutant turtles in the sewers. It’s weird, for sure, but it could be way worse.
Plus, they’re all so cute.
Raph is super helpful, always following her around and trying to participate in whatever she’s doing. It’s so cute watching him bite his lip as he carefully fills Mikey’s sippy cup with juice (April holding onto the carton to make sure he doesn’t spill everywhere)
Donnie is super smart already, eagerly recounting to April whatever cool facts he’s learned. April buys him some Legos to build stuff, and he’s over the moon about them. Mikey eats one of the pieces, leading to a few hours of panic and a lifelong hatred of people touching his stuff.
Leo is a little show off, always yelling “April, April!! Lookit this!!” (Those words have proceeded, to date: three broken bones (at least mutants heal quickly), two sprained ankles, a sprained wrist, a nasty cut down his leg, and more scraped up knees that April can count).
Mikey is much less of a daredevil on his own, but he’s quick to copy whatever dangerous stunt Leo is doing. He’s always easily mollified with colorful bandaids, though, and Leo has more than once abandoned a trick when he sees Mikey trying to attempt it too. His drawings cover both the lair’s fridge and April’s own.
((( idk what this was I just think it’s very cute. My brain went “haha Draxum in a pet shop” and then everything else happened.
i don’t know where Splinter gets his money, but he obviously Has it. He doesn’t work, but the boys can still afford pizza and have allowances (I’m assuming, since it’s unlikely they have jobs to earn money, so whatever they get is probably from Splinter.) and also?? Electricity?? (Where do they get that)
anyway I have Many questions that are never answered about that)))

They love playing hide and seek, tag is cool too but He never knows if he should let kid win or make them loose in 0.23 seconds
He brings her a lot of stuff, mostly paper crayons, toys(dino plushies pls), clothes ofc, stickers. He will kinda love if she draws him or put stickers on his armor. I mean she shoudlnt be in armory and she is banned from going there due to sharp objects but awwwwe cute stickers on his armor
Mostly He is too busy to multi-task (taking care of kid while doing other stuff is difficult) so he just lets kid vibe on his lap or around him overall.
Yautja is very good in learning kid how to deal with emotions (both positive and negative) and overall respect, self defence ect
When kid grows up(teenager) he is doing his best to support her and show empathy (and yautjas arent know for being very emphatic) but please on love of God do not be mean to him he will be heartbroken. As the kid grows he will kinda try to train them with sertain weapons of just simple self-defence. Its not like kid will ever be in danger but its more like dad trying to show his favorite hobbie to his kid in hope that the kid will like it too
Funfact out of context! I liked yautjas before i saw any movies and I thought they had tails :( u can imagine my disapointment

A predictable rainy day set in. Though gloomy, it was comforting, since it hadn’t rained in quite a bit. The shared apartment you were cramped in produced shakes at the harsh, yet calming downpour. It was quite nice this morning!
“good morning” you flashed a smile at your roommate, as he walked out into the kitchen in the most adorable periwinkle-colored star pajamas. The ones you had gotten for him on his last birthday. “you look dumb hao” you say, cracking a laugh at his messy hair, and wrinkled pajamas. He just waved you off and began to make his coffee in silence.
after having your mini breakfast, you’d thought it’d be a good day to nap, since work had gotten canceled due to the sudden stormy weather. And zhanghao ofcourse was off that day, so you two could just chill for the day.
Or so you thought..
as you lay down on the couch, snuggling in with the warmest blanket you could find, you heard him speak up from the kitchen.
“yknow the dare you gave me last night?” You thought to yourself for a moment… a dare? a dare… oh.
“you have to.. teach me chinese..!” you slurred your words a bit, tired eyes looking down as your body collapsed into his arms. “it’ll beeeee fun hao.” eyes closing now, you had almost passed out drunk. Zhanghao had taken you home from the place you had drank at with your coworkers, since your workplace had a big promotion party.
“Are you really going to want that? I won’t teach you easily, yknow.” he spoke with a pouty tone, still holding you. His calm appearance barely hid the extreme anxiety and redness that he felt deep down. You two had never been this physically close.
“hello? yn..?”
“I was drunk haoooooo..! i didn’t mean shit i said, you know that. I just wanna nap today.” sighing, you tried to lay to your side to avoid facing him. “nope, you asked and i’ll deliver! I’ll go grab some paper and two pens.” he seemed to add a bit more excitement to his tone, you found it comforting.
after about 3 minutes, he came back bearing a paper and 2 dark purple pens. Placing the paper on the table, he sat down, slightly nudging you to sit up, and eventually with a few more pushes you sat up.
“so…” your eyes scanned around the room, avoiding contact with him. “i’ll teach you how to write each word, and then we can make a sentence!” you thought it would be simple enough, just a couple of characters you had to draw and then you were off to nap to your hearts desire!
“we’ll start with the first one!” he took the pen, and began to write the character. 我 “soooooo what does it mean? cmon hurry i wanna sleep..” out of interest, you didn’t even notice the space between you both was almost non existent. “don’t rush me. In basic terms, it means I/me, but in this case we’ll say it means I. Can you try and write it?” You obliged, slowly copying the character that he wrote: 我
“this one, it means love. Could also mean affection, passion, and other things related to that!” 爱 he wrote this one slower, but you payed little attention to it. Just copying and doing as you were told. You were trying extra hard to copy as exact as you could, but you’d have to admit it was pretty hard. “move the pen like this” his hand hovered over yours, before eventually grabbing it. You felt a bit warm inside when he did this, but shook it off and continued to listen.
as his hand controlled yours, guiding the pen to show how it should be written, you felt butterflies in your stomach. It was truly an unreal feeling, so much so that you spaced out when he started talking again. 爱
“hey, wake up! one more to go and then i’ll spell it out.” You snapped out of it, nodding and locking in. “this one means you, it’s pretty simple. Just copy it and let me know if you need help!” 你 smiling, you focused on writing it. You could feel hal’s presence right next to you, unbeknownst to you, he was smiling ear to ear.

✮A/N: so sorry for the late reply🙏🙏 i wasnt sure if you wanted an angst? Or fluff? This was originally supposed to be angst where ena got jealous?? But i decided to scrap that yknow? Since reader here is a beginner, i feel like their drawings are good but not that good to make ena feel jealous.
✮Synopsis: ena sees you drawing and cant help but watch you.
✮Contains: fluff! Gn! Reader, ena is jealous at you from the start, reader calls ena, shinonome instead of her firstname, reader later calls ena her firstname, ena and reader are not close friends, just friends.
When ena first saw you drawing she didnt think much of it, she saw how nice your drawing is, making her feel a tinge of jealousy.
Her peeking was soon turned into staring, you noticed her staring frequently, she kept moving her seat at least an inch closer here and there, thats when you decided to speak up.
"..need something..?" You ask awkwardly, ena shakes her head "ah! No,no.. i just wanna watch you draw.. if thats okay with you, i didnt know you were an artist.." she added, you shook your head at her remark "oh, uhm.. im not an artist! Im just trying out drawing.." you replied "oh? But you art looks good for a beginner, can i watch you draw?" She asks, you nodded and you continued to draw while ena was watching you, you noticed how she watched was very focused.. was she studying how you draw? You didnt think much of it and continued drawing until you had an idea.
"Hey, shinonome can i ask you something?" You ask, ena nodded "oh, sure, what is it?" She asks, sounding intrigued, "would you like to draw with me?" Without hesitation ena nodded "oh, sure!" She says and grabs some pens and her sketchbook, while ena was flipping the pages, looking for a clean page to draw on, you couldn't help but stare at her drawings, they were very good..! Majestic!
"You sure draw alot shinonome, can i see your drawings? If you dont mind that is.." ena was a bit reluctant but eventually agreed, you flipped over some pages and saw a drawing of hers, it was a bouquet of flowers, the next was a colorful wolf, and the next was a girl who had no emotions, she has alot of different arts on her drawings , you couldn't help but point them out, "you also draw animals? Thats so cool shinonome..!" You exclaimed, ena cant helo but blush at your compliment, after all its not everyday someone acknowledges her for her art. "Oh, and this ones a flower, and thats a wolf.. how do you manage to draw all these things?" You ask, ena answers your questions and sooner or later, you both found yourselves talking about art, with ena teaching you the basics.
"I didnt know there were multiple things to study with art.. i thought you could just scribble here and there.." you groan playfully, ena chuckles at your statement "well yes its important to learn the basics, but whats more important is to have fun" she mentioned, you smile at her words and nodded in agreement.
While you were chatting and drawing with her you suddenly have the urge to ask her a question. "Oh, shinonome.! Theres one last thing i have to ask you" you added, ena nodded "oh sure" she replied "why did you think i draw good despite being a beginner? Whats so special about my art that makes it special than a beginner?" You ask before quickly trying to brush it off "a-ah! No need to answer its just.. the question's been lingering on my mind for some time" ena thinks for a moment, not too sure of her answer before eventually replying."well, the characteristics of your drawings are far more different than beginners.. thats what i noticed.. your lines are somewhat refined.. when i was teaching a friend of mine about drawing, her lines were uneven and she was overusing outlines.. which made her drawings appear more.. heavy? But yours is different.." she replied, it was making you feel confident, you were different from other beginner artists, your ego has been boosted thanks to ena! "Oh wow.. that made me feel confident.. thanks shinonome!" you smile at her, and she smiled back.
"But why that question?" She asks. "Well, it kind of caught me off guard that you told me that my drawings were different from other beginner artists and i just wanna know" you replied and ena nodded to herself soon enough a chime was heard, indicating school was over, you and ena both packed your things and cleaned up your desks.
"It was nice talking to you, shino-" ena cuts you off before you can even finish your sentence "oh, no.. please call me ena" she smiled "oh okay ena, and please call me [Y/N]" you added and ena nodded "okay [Y/N], you were saying?" You cleared your throat and continued your statement. "I was wondering if you could.. uhm.. bring your sketchbook's tomorrow, i really wanna see your drawings and yknow, maybe have some inspiration?" You ask "its okay if you dont-" ena interrupts and nodded happily "why yes.! Im more than happy, ill make sure to bring my favorite sketchbook" she added, you nodded and waved goodbye, going to your separate ways.
Ena was very happy when you asked to see more of her drawings, she was happy that you acknowledge her drawing skills, maybe she would being more sketchbooks than expected.. oh well! More references for you!

AROACE POLYSHOW AROACE POLYSHOW THE GREATEST THING OF ALL TIME.
things of note that i think are fun.... nene and rui had major questioning phases pre-wxs about being aroace. i'd imagine nene being really confused why everyone around her seemed so interested in dating and romance and the whole amatanormative feel of dramatic media and such. it's in so many plays, and people get in so many shipping wars/draw suggestive art for games. it's hard to ignore as a theater kid and gamer. she didn't get it and felt isolated. she came across the term aroace online but had a hard time accepting that she might be that, but eventually silently embraced it. rui on the other hand knew full well he was not like other people. he's not the kind of guy who would pick and choose a crush that isn't there. being aroace and a middle/high schooler made him feel even more lonely and alienated from his peers. he agknowledged the fact he was aroace pretty easily, but it took him a lot longer to accept that isn't a bad thing at all.
emu and tsukasa had NO clue they were aroace. did not occur to them at all. emu had to be told it was a thing and she went "huh? OHHH THATS ME !!!! :D". skipped teh entire questioning/am i broken stage and went right to "hehehehehehe". (though other people don't believe her that often. emu is so full of love. how could someone like her not fall in love with other people? she's too young. she hasn't met the right person yet. it's just a phase. her siblings started off as ignorantly aphobic, but then realized the fault of their ways and learned.). my hc for tsukasa is a bit different than other peoples, but i am fully convinced he thought he was bisexual for teh LONGEST time. "guys and girls can both be good looking, so i must be bi! yeah the extent of my feelings is "they're cool" ... what do you mean that's not what a crush is". it was a shocking revelation to him that people actually want to kiss/have sex for real. he's accepted being aroace and actively embraces it, though he still feels connected to teh bi label. he'd like the concept of tertiary attraction and probably label as bi aroace, to honor both.
i like to think that tsukasa accidentally came out first (accidentally meaning he simply forgot to tell them and then was surprised when they were all surprised). emu was like !!!!! omg samsies and nene laughed and came out, too. wxs were the first people rui ever said the words "aromantic asexual" out loud to.
i personally think aroace polyshow never actually labeled themeselves as such, but BOY do tehy act like they're all married. they just care about each other soooooo much. its platonic its queer platonic its romantic its everything all blended together. if its them, they can do anything. with the shared knowledge of being aroace, they all also sort of feel more comfortable being openly affectionate, yknow? there's no risk of misinterpretation of intent- they love each other. they love each other in a way that they cannot describe and most people wouldn't understand. they are tied by their love of shows and their love of each other. emu is really physically affectionate and they all feel safe cuddling with her. rui lightheartedly flirts and half the time i dont think he even realizes he's doing it, the other half he's just trying to be silly. nene excels in the silent acts of love, making sure the stage is clean and there's always a few snacks backstage and honeslty just being there for everyone.
they have game night/sleepover every once in a while, usually during planning stages of shows. there's also a high likelyhood one goes to another's house at least once a week for some reason.
oh also they never do romance plays ever. it was a revelation tehy only came to after coming out. it just... never occured to them to do one. and now that they all know none of them can fall in love they actively try and avoid it. they've re-written fables to be about the power of friendship, or re-imagined the tale to the point romance wouldn't even be on anyone's mind. it's not a theme the audience ever picks up on, but at the same time they do? they don't realize the pattern but nobody ever comes out of a show with that interpretation. their shows are a hit every time, too. ("story" doesn't mean "romance", after all).
wonderlands x showtime isn't a romance. it's a love story.

i have been trying to make this into a coherent post for days and have gotten Nowhere so you will have to put up with this borderline incoherent trail of thoughts instead. okay here we go:
dorelaine sounds like it was meant to be a mondegreen of darling (or vice-versa depending on what perspective you're seeing it from) which lends some credence to the WHRP's insistence that ronald dorelaine Must be the creator of welcome home (again - "must be," not "is," which is odd.)
wally as a self-insert for dorelaine? this information sponge who kind of exists to learn from his friends/loved ones on our behalf, the audience surrogate, a slate so blank he didn't know what a clown was until someone asked him to draw one. what about a character like that would cause someone to draw on their own traits to write him?
in that same vein, wally being not only a self-insert but an Ideal Self? if so, what about the above traits would have been Desirable to dorelaine? wally being representative of a desire for some kind of "fresh start"? or perhaps of flawlessness by way of (initially) not knowing there are flaws to be had? ignorance is bliss and all.
y'know. i was talking about this in a metaphorical sense and was gonna go on about how like i wonder what it will look like the further things progress and wally deviates more from this aspect of himself (assuming he hasn't already. dorelaine probably was not quite so attached to his house, for one thing) but i think this might be one of the only contexts in which a literal(ish) possession story could work - i.e. how far do you think someone would go to discard their original identity and become their ideal self?
i was gonna elaborate on that but then i realized i was just describing the season one plot twist from surviving romance.
[spoilers for surviving romance, obviously] by which i mean: yknow how it turns out that the protagonist, who is now the MC of the novel the entire story takes place in, actually used to be the author of the novel? and the whole thing was written in an attempt to justify her own suffering (without actually unpacking any of her trauma or the defeatism that was beaten into her by her circumstances) by giving her idealized self-insert (the original MC) a happy ending after a series of borderline comedic acts of cruelty - something she felt she would never be able to achieve herself? and how she only remembers this after repressing it long enough to form relationships with the other characters in the novel after being thrown into a life or death situation and realizing that they all have a lot more depth and interiority than the original novel's narration afforded them? yeah? Yeah.
that's not the Whole plot twist but it is the part of it that's the most relevant to this post.
but hey, maybe there's no literal possession/reincarnation/transmutation/Whatever stuff going on. in fact, for now i'm confident in that not being the case, at least not literally. but i still think if wally being some kind of self-insert or at least being based on ronald dorelaine in some capacity is canon, then it is worth noting bc like. wally As We Understand Him so far exists to absorb and reflect the world around him and the people in it in order to guide us, the audience. if he turns out to be a self-insert on top of that, then he also exists to reflect his creator in some form. for as much as everything seems to revolve around him (even when we Know for a fact that whatever happened had an effect on the other neighbors as well) it's kind of hard to imagine wally existing as his own guy; he always exists in relation to something or someone else.
one has to wonder how he feels about that. he seems confident that it will all work out in the end (whatever "it" is) but, well. this Is a horror story.
something about what i said a while ago, about the puppets being more affected by unconscious decisions - "things left unsaid," in particular.
still think about Metaphorical hauntings in welcome home though. that one guillermo del toro quote - "What is a ghost? A tragedy condemned to repeat itself time and again? A moment of pain, perhaps. [...] An emotion suspended in time. Like a blurred photograph. Like an insect trapped in amber."
"ah but doesn't home also lend themself to a good possession story?" so close! i think whatever's going on with home is closer to necromancy/a state of Undeath than anything else. i will not be elaborating at this point in time <3
..... possible future holy trinity imagery with dorelaine, wally, and home? father/son/holy spirit? unlikely but Could you imagine.

HONESTLY..ive been thinking a lil.
so i started down my path to becoming a professional character designer in 2013, when i designed my very first character who was MEANT to be a character design exercise. i cant exactly remember what prompted me wanting to go into character design--it could have just been that i was passionate about designing characters to the point of where i had looked up if that was a job or not--but it had become such a passion of mine that i would go on to study and practice character design for like 10 years afterward.
in 2018 i started to take this career path more seriously by enrolling in stephen silver's schoolism class, the fundamentals of character design. this was significant for me because stephen was at the time a very recent idol of mine and i admired his abilities--plus this would count as my first "formal" character design learning experience. i didnt feel very good after taking the class; it was critiqued, and i kind of got ripped into lol. but after i recovered, i didnt give up and just worked harder, eventually taking his second class a couple years later. that time i did pretty well and i came out feeling like i was finally ready to apply to jobs in the industry!
unfortunately, erm...the job hunting was not only Not a success, but it only served to kind of kill my passion for character design. every time i applied i was rejected and every critique i asked for gave me something new i had to do differently. one critique in particular hurt me a lot and killed my passion for art overall (obviously not completely, i have the art autism so i could never fully fall out of love for it lol). it got to the point where last year (2023) i made the decision to give up on character design as a career and just do commissions full time.
dont get me wrong, i am very happy doing commissions as my full time job!!! i love drawing people's blorbos :]...but also, its a very inconsistent income, and theres been a couple months where i couldnt make rent without help, and that doesnt feel good at all.
so ive been thinking. i dont rly wanna go back to the industry--it still feels bad to me and right now it seems as though the industry is not in a great environmental situation anyway, so i dont wanna even attempt to try getting a job there again. however........i was honestly reconsidering if i had actually lost the passion for character design because it just genuinely wasnt my true passion, or if i had only lost it because the industry killed it. and i think the conclusion i came to was that yeah it was the industry's fault that made me fall out of love with it because it made me feel like i was doing everything wrong and nobody would like my design style.
so now my thought is like...maybe i dont HAVE to work in the industry to be a professional character designer? sure itd be AMAZING for my work to be on like. cartoon network or something. but i dont think i Have to work at a studio to be happy in that career path?? like..idk. maybe i can be a freelancer or something. if an industry opportunity shows itself i dont think i'll decline, but i wont actively seek them out anymore.
its just that i feel like ive put too much work and time and money and effort and passion into character design yknow? i dont feel right anymore just letting the industry kill that passion. i wanna reignite it and use the knowledge and skills ive gained over the 10 years ive been working at it to make a good living for myself. yeah itd be great to get guild pay lol, but if i can just...figure out how to do freelance character design work, then i think it can be just as good and fulfilling
sorry for the long post i just needed to air some thoughts out as usual <33 i guess this does show that character design still is my passion LOL i talked so fucking much about it after all. if u have any thoughts to share feel free i guess

I love Obsidian so much ofc I’ll talk abt him 😭
>she found the egg after a puzzle that required blood, and he was in a furnace. Seems like the cult was trying and failing to hatch him. His egg was smooth and shiny as obsidian, hence his name. Ansa just carried it at first thinking it might be important but quickly learned she couldn’t get rid of it and kept staring at it, turning it over, and gently talking to it. The guild, understandably, thought she was crazy bc they all thought it was just a stupid rock
>egg turns super hot when hatching except to its parents so when brynolf tried to grab it it burned his hand. He still has a slight scar from it that obsidian seems apologetic abt even tho none of them were sure how he could know or how sentient he is
>he’s a little menace as a baby. If Ansa isn’t holding him he will begin crying and wailing like he’s being killed and rip up anything he can reach so. No super important stealthy missions for Ansa for a while
>he has black scales and red horns and eyes!
>loves to ride on her shoulder or in her traveling bag
>when the Helgen attack happens he’s very excited to see his dad and refused to GET BACK IN THE FUCKING BAG
>his first shout is ‘fus’ after Ansa learns it, followed by ‘yol’

>this is a spoiler but comes up quickly and is hinted at a lot: Ansa is the reincarnation of obsidian’s birth mom and Alduin’s mate. Alduin is stupid in denial abt this, bc ew mortal, even tho he knows a dragon egg can’t hatch unless one of its parents is incubating it and taking care of it
>related to this and also still a spoiler: obsidian’s uncle is Odahviing!! Alduin’s mate and Odahviing were clutch mates (after getting older most dragons normally just consider Akatosh their father and choose to ignore true sibling bonds above all else) and he finds Ansa pretty quickly and goes in human disguise to travel with her. Bc it’s funny and feels bad to leave his reborn sister with a baby alone if Alduin is gonna throw a tantrum and be stubborn abt it. I’m looking forward to these parts

so. in advance im so sorry if this spirals out of control, but i just... haven't been able to stop thinking about the idea of your podcast, yknow?
i think it's something about knowing that feeling. i have spent a Long time in high school (long enough im wayyy past sick of this place 🙄) and most of that has been spent being bullied by sophomore-equivalents. and what that does is it teaches you a lot of things very fast. well, it taught me a lot of things very fast, certainly. stuff like how i should never actually respond to how my weekend was (nobody actually wants an answer to that, apparently) or what my favourite film/book/game is (nobody actually cares, apparently) and- most aptly- to never, ever make anything that's got more joy, wit, and passion than the of back of a cereal box put into it. i have sat the night before a project was due and rewrote the entire thing because it would be too soul-bearing otherwise. because it would get mocked either way, and i couldn't bear that happening to something i actually cared about.
and i have lived six years like this. six years of supposedly the most creative part of my life have been spent writing, drawing, and talking about stuff that would make wheaties look like an exciting novelty.
and you know what?
it doesn't even work. as my mother puts it, if people want to make fun of you, they'll find a way to do it no matter what. the point is- cicada, i don't want you to ever learn these lessons. ever. the world is not like sophmore year of high school. it is full of people like felix, and toulouse, and everyone else that cares about you. it's full of people that are going to love you for your full and unapologetic self. i promise. i've been there. i'll hold your hand through it and everything. but you have poured your heart and soul into this podcast, and i never, ever want you to stop doing that. fuck. them. they have no right, no place to make you feel shame for being who you are or liking what you do. but they can, and they will, no matter what you stand up there and present.
so you might as well present that podcast proudly. and you might as well continue to make and enjoy things like it for the rest of your life. for yourself, and for everyone who was too afraid to do something similar.
it isn't an easy choice. it is one of the hardest things you'll ever have to do. but i'm proud of you either way. even making it's an act of rebellion. schools WANT cereal-packet crap. don't let them have it. okay?
