What is it about “You’re doomed” that gets me every time?

The second week of October means another extra special trailer review. This week an OG teen scream movie gets a review: Friday the 13th. This movie scared me so much when I was a little kid, and it led to a several movie franchise over the years. Which happens to include one of my favorite scary movie bad guy mash-ups, Freddy Vs Jason.

Side note: I sent a survey out on Facebook last week asking what other content y’all would want to see from the Haunted Trailer Park. The most popular hits were content other than reviews (like my favorite horror movie and why, etc), and long form reviews of actual movies as opposed to trailers. It just so happens that I watched Cult of Chucky last Sunday, so if you’re interested in reading my stream of consciousness reaction you can do so here. 

Let's get into the nitty gritty...

The premise: Friday the 13th has a pretty simple premise: A bunch of horny teens want to start a summer camp, but some unknown assailant keeps killing them all. And it all has to do with some kid drowning in the lake where they want to set up camp almost 30 years prior. According to an old man literally called "Crazy Ralph", there's a “death curse” at the lake, but none of the teens believe it. MISTAKE.

The music: Another iconic score (if you can call it that). I’m not sure what instrument makes the sound or if it’s a human voice but there’s this “ch ch ch ch ah ah ah ah” sound that is associated with Friday the 13th and used prominently throughout the trailer which haunted my childhood nightmares. My dad does a really great impression of it that he loves to whip out if we’re somewhere outdoors in the dark. THANKS DAD.

Other spooky observations: Having sex in a scary movie always gets you killed. This movie pretty much solidified that scary movie trope, albeit an extremely sex-negative one that is arguably reflective of the fact that people were trying to adjust to life post Woodstock and the “yes yes yes” culture of the 60s. Oh and you see every single death in the trailer. Which is interesting.

The verdict: 4/5 ghosties. Jason is scary because he wears that mask and never talks, kind of like Michael. Also he’s a ghost (I think?) or something, so he can never die. Which is why there are so many movies.

After watching the trailer, there is absolutely no one I can imagine in the role (sorry varooo 😭) If there's anyone after Varun Dhawan in Bollywood that I admire slightly that is Ranveer Singh. I mean he looks great in movies... also I love the fact that the guy is actually loaded with talent. He's in the industry on his own and established on his own!! This new song that came out yesterday is sung by Ranveer Singh himself who.. get this.. was a rapper forever ago! I'm glad his talent is shown in the movie. The song is catchy and lifts spirits instantly. For me that is saying alot because I don't do well with music! Can't wait to watch the movie though! Definitely believe that this remake of the Lion King isn’t going to be too good. I’m very disappointed with the design of Scar! And with the animation aiming to look more realistic and closer to real animals, I believe it will not be able to live up to the freedom that hand drawn animation had and lose the fun element of the characters. But still, never judge a book by its cover, let’s wait till July!
