LITERALLY like its people discussing the characters as living people and not plot tools. no matter what mapleshade did her kits would die because the plot NEEDS them to die. they were doomed the second they were out of camp lol

(i would say the bridge route would probably just have the kits succumb to hypothermia from being out in leaffall rain though, given how fragile kittens are. then people would whine about how she didnt take the faster route. also also doesnt getting to the bridge require crossing the stream near fourtrees, which is also capable of flooding. like fireheart almost dies there in one book. i just checked the map again and it looms like you need to hop the stream to get there)

From what I understand of that particular creek, it's a "syke." A syke is a seasonal stream fed by extra rain, floodwater, and snowmelt, usually only seen in spring and early autumn. A syke is also called a "bourne" further south in England.

So the syke could be active because of the extra flooding, yeah. Which would make it dangerous to take that detour. Mapleshade on her 4th playthrough of MV trying to get 100% completion so she takes the long way around, only for the plot wave to follow her all the way down there too lmao. SYKE!

The best way I can describe autism is imagining your favorite characters in the most mundane situations, acting 100% in-character

For instance:

-Heavy TF2 has a mouse infestation? He'd see one and go "Augh! Myshkas?! ...Heh heh, they run, like Scout, from big scary man."

-Plague Knight drops something on his toe? He grabs his foot, starts hopping around and says "ACK!!! HeeYOW!! Blast it, hee! This experiment is... decidedly NOT going according to plan!"

-Dedusmuln finds a styrofoam cup of water? Completely unreadable expression, he says "Wow. The myriad of bliss which thronges my heart of hearts is indescribable with such primitive lexicon! Oh, reconnaissance and discovery, it is where my soul may lie."

So, why do some people who love Crimson Flower always go on about how the English translation is pure evil? Because they always say that "oh, Treehouse hated Edelgard," but they never do a side-by-side comparison of why the English translaton is significantly more pro-Dimitri and anti-Edelgard (notice who they leave out in that) than the Japanese script.

From what I've seen, it seems to come from early fandom interpretations of 3H saying that it was "mistranslated to make Edelgard look worse" that came from people who, uh. Primarily didn't actually speak Japanese, or otherwise had a fairly severe misunderstanding of it.

You'll see this with pretty much every big-name event that is claimed to have been "mistranslated" in general. The AM parley, the Continue To Kill no u, Faerghus Toxic Masculinity, and "the Dream Interview calls her an antagonist not a villain" are the Big 4 of this thing happening, and all four of them have been thoroughly debunked as nonsense by people who actually speak and understand Japanese. That's probably why the actual MAJORITY of events that get the "this was mistranslated to make Edelgard look worse" card don't actually have that side-by-side comparison you mention (since there's WAY more smaller things that they say this about, for example Dimitri was TOTALLY JOKING with Edelgard during Gronder 1 and TOTALLY WASN'T freaked the fuck out at her "jokes"), because the people who claim this are 0-4 on being correct about this for four of the most important examples of this supposedly happening.

So they'll kinda just say anything is Totally A Mistranslation in the hopes that the English-speaking fandom who for the most part don't speak Japanese will believe them, and through that believe them on what the game is "actually" trying to say. With that being, of course, that Edelgard was completely and utterly right about literally actually factually every single thing she has ever said in the game ever and literally actually factually every single other person who disagrees with her is completely and utterly wrong (unless what they're saying is, of course, in alignment with what Edelgard is saying).

And if anyone who actually knows what they're talking about comes in and corrects them - even nicely! - they'll either go on about how everyone is coming after them (read: people who understand Japanese are correcting someone who doesn't understand Japanese about something that exclusively revolves around understanding Japanese), or they'll accuse that person of being a liar/sexist/homophobic POS who just wants the poor little gay bean that is Edelgard to be pure and utter evil since they totally view all gay women to be pure and utter evil.

All this, from what I can gather, is mostly to serve as a justification as to why they like Edelgard since they view liking her as a villain to be a genuine mark of bad character, for some reason. They want to believe that she's the progressive figure who does everything for the little guy for one reason or another, and so grab for any excuse they can give her they can think of to make their interpretation of her not seem so unfounded against all of the evidence Edelgard provides the player that she really is just an imperialist who doesn't really give a shit about her people if doing so gives even the slightest bump to her goal of forceful unification. All because daring to like villains is just soooo baaaaad lmao

Okay but it actually drives me insane just how good Aoi’s design is in 999. One thing that really confused me even after finishing 999 was the relevance of his Santa story in non-safe-end door 6 routes. Like was it there just to be edgy? How did it play into who he was as a person? And then I noticed something about his outfit at 15 compared to 24.

His outfit distinctly changes from having black as the predominant color to being more focused on white. Which is. Hmm.

Something something the original Santa story could be a metaphor for loss of childhood innocence and Aoi feeling as if the younger version of him died (or was killed by himself) after the events of the first nonary game.

EXACTLY I have been saying this for so long!! it's not gonna work and it's just gonna make everything worse. it's not a form of activism to just bully people until they conform to what you want; humans are autonomous people capable of choosing good, and like. we could be in the fandom of another band that doesn't even try, whose fans have given up on them and are just there for the music and the drama, but it's like the minute they do try to do something good they have to do activism a certain way and it almost becomes a kind of purity culture and purity culture is famously about control and not good for anyone.

but it's also people trying to be funny in the comments with thinly veiled frustrations that come out as insults about their appearance (which especially gets to me bc like. does body positivity stop if you're famous? or are they just idealised figures/bodies/personalities for us to look at and pretend our bodies don't change over time and we don't like it when they remind us that they actually do?) or their partners or how they express themselves. and it's the aura of entitlement that erodes their right to autonomy and individuality that gets me, not only because the way we get the creative music they make is them expressing that.

anyway i do think we as a fandom can do better and i want to attempt to start a conversation about that rather than trying to call people out in the comments. still thinking of how. there's a lot of people in the fandom who are struggling and exasperated with life and relate to their songs and the pressure has to come out somewhere; it ends up being in comments they feel like won't ever be seen except for by people who agree with them, at people who seem to far away and too big to ever see getting hurt by their comments. at least that's what I assume happens. but yes, they were bullying a cat

It's really easy to notice the weird characterization in fandom when I read smut fics. Because fandom has this homophobic view that sex position preference has anything to do with personality and looks. The bottom is usually portrayed as delicate, feminine, weak, and an unstable mess that sobs if anyone looks at them sideways (hello misogyny!) And the top is usually portrayed as commanding, tough, physically strong, robust (which is why Eddie are usually given magical muscles that appears with no exercise or physical labour).

And it's so silly! You can be the burliest, most mean looking bear of a man, and enjoy bottoming, or a shy little twink and absolutely loathe it. Looks and personality has nothing to do with it, and I don't get why fandom seems to think it does.

And it's not a Steddie exclusive problem either, I remember someone having an absolute meltdown in the Stonathan tag, because people dared to write Jonathan as a top. When according to them he clearly was a delicate flower, a sweet and caring guy, so he had to bottom, and it was wrong to write otherwise. And Steve, as a "mean jock", had to top😂

I'll admit I pretty exclusively read Steve as a bottom, because for me to enjoy reading about someone's butt, I need to find them hot🤷‍♀️ But the weird characterization in most of  these fics is really testing my patience. (I don't write smut myself, and I usually wouldn't complain about something I don't personally do anything to change, but this is not one author's preference, it's a huge chunk of the fandom, which makes it more fair to complain about, I feel)

I just want to read a confident Steve, who is still physically fit and a bit of a bitch, who is the same height as his partner (or taller in the case of Stonathan), and who just happens to enjoy bottoming. No personality changes needed😭 How can that be such a rare find?
