13 illusions...
Previously, I mentioned how the number 13 is seen as unlucky in Japan due to its pronunciation being similar to the word "shiju", which means "to die".
However, I woke up and remembered that tarot cards exist, and that the 13th tarot card is "Death". Which is probably what Tanaka is trying to reference here.
There's a lot about the card that correlates with current events.
One thing I will say, though, is that the number on the card represents that which Mikuni has always sought for, power and change.
So that probably explains the 13 illusions being of him.

So, if I'm understanding these images right, the supportive barrier Mikuni is providing for the succession of the ritual is actually the red moon itself (?) since the beacons seemed to have their energy attached to it.
Tumblr media
If so, do you know how cool that is? you're telling me he is able to provide compensation for the actual magical energy the real full moon was supposed to provide?
Tumblr media
I also noticed that this supportive 'barrier' technique Mikuni is using seems to have been inherited from his mother's magical abilities.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is judging from the images alone, I don't know if the beacons are being powered by the moon or powering the moon, but I think it's the latter. Anyway, there are 13 of them, so I'll slide this here quietly...

Pause.
You're telling me that the melancholy subclasses are trying to destroy 13 illusions of Mikuni scattered around the shrine, which serve as beacons powering the supportive barrier around tsubaki...?
... all while these illusions bully them verbally?
Wdym it's not funny?

To be honest, I don't have a clue for how that whole 9th servamp issue is going to end or what's really behind it, however, I do agree with you in some way? mainly because of this:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
- Except I won't really say saving, because we don't fully know Mikuni's intentions behind it yet. If he were to "put him back together" and that's it, then yes, it would be saving. However, something about the whole layout of chapter 122 and especially those panels above, tells me he didn't mean it in a good way.
You can't break what's already broken. Well. In a way you kind of can, but it won't have the same impact as putting it back together, giving it hope again-- and then breaking it. Destroying it.
Mikuni has always talked about 'destroying' your enemies or whatever. So what better way to do it than this?
Correct me if I'm wrong/Open to discussion:
Mikuni wants to be the Eve for the 9th Servamp, right?
He knew that Touma was going to make Tsurugi the 9th Servamp...and possibly tried to help Touma with this plan in his own sneaky way?
Is Mikuni trying to save Tsurugi from the abuse he saw him go thru?

Hm, I've decided to share my thoughts on this and I think the simple answer to why lily would bet on Mikuni despite his phycopathic tendencies is because of this:
Tumblr media
Mikuni is emotionally intelligent. I mean, he could have easily thrown a fit here and made the situation harder for everyone, but he chose not to. He understood that it wouldn't change what happened, that it was already hard enough on his parents, so he accepted it without making a fuss.
Mikuni, contrary to people's beliefs, is rational. It's constantly shown how mature he was since early in age. He discards his own feelings and makes his decisions rationally, unlike the adults that were responsible for him.
That's why it doesn't matter even if Mikuni wanted the world to burn and had the ability to burn it, he wouldn't do it, because he knows better than to do something that stupid. And that's why lily bets on him. At least, that's the most logical explanation I could find for it.
The professional translation isn't out yet, but from what I gathered it sounds like when mikuni was a small child lily saw how intelligent he was and decided to bet on him and make him the eve of the 9th servamp, believing that only an intelligent person could use the power of the count in a way that would lead to a peaceful world.
But adult mikuni looks so...tired? Compared to the bright child he was when lily decided to aquire the powers of the 9th servamp for him.
Tumblr media
Maybe mikuni could have grown into that intelligent and bright person lily envisioned as the leader of a peaceful world, but all the meddling lily did (that destroyed mikuni's family) has turned him into a person that's twisted.
Even if it turns out that mikuni is only going along with lily's plan for now to either stop him, use the count's power for something else or even to get revenge on lily for what he did to his mother, I can't help but remember the moment in the C3 arc when he caused kuro and mahiru to get seperated and then he lied to mahiru to get him to go further down in the collapsing headquarters, seemingly in an attempt to kill him.
Tumblr media
I can't really think of another motive mikuni could have had for doing this. He didn't want tsurugi to be saved, that was clearly a lie. Getting rid of touma also seems unlikely. The only thing that would have killed touma down there would have been falling debris, not mahiru. Even if touma had tried to help mahiru get out of the building instead of trying to kill him and that would have caused him to get crushed, surely mikuni could have come up with a more foolproof plan to kill touma than this.
And mahiru is a good person. He's misono's first friend. Unlike tsurugi mahiru has also never killed humans, which was one of the reasons he hated tsurugi. Even if mikuni found out about what makes mahiru special and deemed it so dangerous that he decided it was better if mahiru died, he doesn't look remorseful in the slightest for lying and sending a good kid to his very likely death.
Instead he looks downright insane and cruel. I don't care how intelligent he is, I doubt mikuni could create the peaceful world lily claims to want.

THIS. CHAPTER. WAS. SICK.
There is so much to say.
Like how tsubaki obtaining all the powers of the servamps and going berserk is the highlight of this chapter. I've been waiting for some serious action and this chapter was THE ONE.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So much happened in this chapter, but let me just say that these two shouldn't have been allowed to team up lol
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Oh, and one last thing? Damn Jeje looks so fine, even when he's going through it. (I'm sorry it has to be said)
Tumblr media
Seems like he is going to be without his mask in the upcoming chapters, and I'm looking forward to it.

Oh. My. God. (SPOILERS)
Tumblr media
Tell me why I'm not surprised. I mean after knowing that Kiriko went to lily for counselling, I already suspected him to be 'that' person that Mikuni was talking about.
Tumblr media
Really because he was in the perfect position to manipulate her. Which we are being told here by the way.
We all knew that tsubaki's escape was NO coincidence due to previous chapters and that Kiriko was used to cover it up, but that is just so sad now that it's been confirmed.
Do you know how much my heart is breaking for that woman?
Google translate didn't help me much in this chapter but PLEASE, do NOT tell me Mikuni was in on it. PLEASE tell me he is only pretending, so he can later on execute a perfect plan for the downfall of the people that toyed with his mother. PLEASE.
IT WAS SAID THAT YOU WOULD DESTROY THE SITH, NOT JOIN THEM-.

Since it's the second day of October, here is a friendly reminder that Jeje doesn't even think Mikuni needs redemption.
He really had a flashback of Mikuni's rude ahh telling him that the name his mother gave to him was probably one that didn't suit the monster that he was, but instead of being offended he thought to himself "yeah, that nobleness must be protected at all costs" ... yeeaahh
Which means the hopes of a "talk it out" arc where Jeje is the one to talk some sense into Mikuni out of all people should be out of the window by now. I'm sorry guys.

Since its the first day of October, here is a friendly reminder that Mikuni is completely unaffected by the distance limitations between him and Jeje now that it's been broken between all servamps and eves.
Which means he's going to be freely roaming around doing whatever he wants wherever he wants for the rest of the manga, while Jeje continues having a mental breakdown in a little box made out of magic.
