It doesn't matter if American Christians in power are "doing it wrong" or if actually, Jesus said things that contradict their proclaimed values. What matters is that religious groups should not be in a position to legislate their religious beliefs such that it applies to people not beholden to that religion.

In other words, the argument that "Jesus would hate White Christian Nationalism because the Bible shows he was a radical etc etc" doesn't matter because you are meeting them on their terms. If the Bible did say that Jesus hated abortion/poor people/socialism, it still would not be acceptable for Christians to legislate on that basis.

And yet cultural Christianity has brought us to a point where we'd rather pin the problem on a new subset of Christianity whose issue is that they're misinterpreting original doctrine. Y'all have been saying, “Well, they're not Real Christians” for centuries. This is not a problem of a new sect's formation. This is an issue of separation of church & state. In political/legal contexts, it should not matter what the Bible says or doesn't say, or how anyone interprets it, because the Bible has no place in a courtroom. It's literally that simple.

Edited to add: This "The Bible actually says" tactic can have its use in deprogramming individuals who may genuinely benefit from some recognition of their own cognitive dissonance. However, using this strategy as a "gotcha" against the phenomenon as a whole has negligible practical value.

I hope you don't stop writing. I have noticed that some of your friends have not been supportive, but I will always read and reblog anything you post. It is just really quiet here now.

i've just run out of time, nonny. i've had a fantastic promotion at work, i'm prioritising my health and well-being after years of being a primary carer with a better work/life balance, i'm finding other outlets to be creative and working on myself. it's been nice to find other ways to enjoy myself after putting others before me for so long.

i tend to write then stop for a few years, then come back if i need. covid dragged me back here when a lot was happening in my life. it was an outlet and a great distraction at the time.

my friends are very supportive, they see a lot of what's written (mostly in full format) as beautiful badass betas and we are constantly sharing our thotty thots, feels and ideas in DM and other social media.

the fandom tide has changed, but keep supporting your writers and creators. it's the only way it'll continue. i appreciate all your wonderful support xx

I was looking at Seven of Nine's TV Tropes page and saw this entry:

At first, I was nodding along to the entry until I rewatched the fight scene and realized, Narissa did smash Seven's head against the console BUT the area Narissa slammed down was the part of Seven's head that's almost purely metal.

It rocked Seven for a second...

But since the console hit the part of the head that's more metal than flesh.

She's up and about really quick.

'Cause as a gruesome reminder without skin this is what Seven of Nine's head (or half a head) looks like without skin.

Also in Imperfection when Seven's cortical node was misfiring:

In a lot of ways, Seven is technically a lot more resilient than a normal Human. And if the right implants were brought online she can still technically create a personal force field and she won't need a communicator since there's an interlink node built in her brain.

I keep seeing people say they "don't see" Dracula's antisemitism (and racism, but as I am a white Jew, this post is about antisemitism - there are other, better analyses about the racism present in the text, which are written by people who are not me, some of which I have reblogged if you care to find them)

like okay! so you can read about an Eastern European man, famous for drinking blood, being compared to a lizard and plotting to invade Western spaces, repelled by a symbol of Christianity — and not see it? it is a privilege to be able to read this book without immediately seeing the antisemitism in it.

it is no one's fault for not being trained to pick up on these stereotypes/dogwhistles. if you have read this book before without spotting the antisemitism, that is NOT a moral failing. but if you have seen/heard Jewish people calling out the antisemitism in this book, it is pretty fucking rich to remain ignorant of where that is present in the text. do your research or stop posting about not getting it.

this being tumblr, there's obviously been an emphasis on homoerotic readings of the text, which makes it worth noting here the ways in which homophobia and antisemitism overlap in the character of Dracula himself, considering the history of both Jewish and gay men being emasculated/feminized. this is an instance where intersectionality is crucial as an analytic lens, to fully understand the social and historical context of the text.

you do not need to center your readings of a text on its bigotries. but if you do not at least understand where they are present, you run the risk of perpetuating them yourself.
