look i just find it a little funny that people—for the past 3 years—have been adamant that Azriel’s book is next ergo gwonriel is next... undoubtedly: they have the nb of appearances on their side (💀). it was THE argument.
and we were crazy and lacked common sense for saying elain’s book was coming and that the increased presence of Az + his secrets revolving around Elain = he gets the 2nd PoV in Elain’s book. outrageous fr.
… it’s not really the G/A ship that bothers me, it’s the lack of logic.
The “Az book” insistance exposes the recency bias, but also the flaws in their reasoning:
elain’s story being pushed aside in favour of a necklace/ribbon-centered love triangle (opposing 2 women) that originated in a bonus chapter… really?
the idea that gwyn would get a PoV before elain (let go of character preferences for a second and ✨ponder✨).
worst yet: in general, Gwyn only ever serves as a LI in their theories, a sidekick to Az & Nes because gwyn isn’t directly nor uniquely tied to any plot point (atp).
the way they gaslighted ppl into thinking more training & libraries & HoW gang (with 0 new characters) is more urgent to the narrative than an Elain story; than a *new* story that actually advances the plot & characters.
them not getting that gwonriel would be a consequence of elucien: E/L would have always needed to happen 1st because it is ELAIN’s story & choice.
you can’t just compare the structure of ToG and Acotar as if they’re equivalent: the PoVs work vastly differently, and either way it’s always the women that primarily drive the action… i.e. Nesryn & Yrene in ToD. “bUt cHaOl’s boOk”
if anything LUCIEN is the Chaol of acotar (it’s a compliment i adore chaol). and Vassa’s presence/importance in the series relative to other side characters makes her the closest we have to a Nesryn or Yrene figure. Gwyn is more of a Fenrys.
their characterization of Az goes against what we know of his character; “Az is horrible to women but but it’s ok we love him cause he’s different with Gwyn! she makes him better, she’ll help him heal… mates!!” …how convenient. and weird.
they acknowledge only a (convenient) portion of Elain’s character. her visions / powers involve Koschei… but also much more. Cauldron and Truthteller? never heard of them. Nuala & Cerridwen don’t matter (they’re spying on her guys!), her attraction to Az is dismissible… Lucien being her mate is all that really counts. her “need” for sunshine is her character… a result of picking and choosing of ‘evidence’ ngl (as is the way they spin all her scenes with Az). etc.
refusing to acknowledge the feysand bonus. or the set up in FaS. or the continued development of Elain in SF.
Tbh, as it’s becoming increasingly clear to the fandom that Elain is indeed most likely next, im wondering how they’re spinning this. Mother knows I hate the ship wars, but please let people realize the next book was always elriel “vs” elucien.

Prompt 263
Once More, we return to Tiamat prompts.
It was a wonderful idea, really! If one of them couldn’t break the barrier, then surely their combined might would do it! And it had! It had worked, even if their remaining humanity was sacrificed. They’d done it, they’d made it where everyone could escape, could leave!
… Except for them. Someone had to close the portal. And it all would have been fine, if not for the remnants of the GIW. One last hail mary from the imbeciles, they all supposed. Trapping them here within the Zone.
Separated from their families, from the pair of children they had agreed to raise. At least their siblings would watch over Ellie and Jordan. Kyle could hide them, make sure they were safe. Jazz… Jazz was gone, the final straw in this plan.
They screamed, they raged, they destroyed in grief for those that didn’t make it, and for those who had but had nowhere to go. No portals opened, even as they tore at the green around them. They fought, any that thought they were weak, that they were merely a beast, an abomination trapped in chains of science and gold.
There was nothing that could be done, Frostbite had said, sympathy in his voice. No way to turn back the clock with how entwined they had become, Clockwork had explained. The only thing they could do was wait, Pandora had tried to sooth, despite it doing nothing.
They wrenched open the coffin in a hazy fury, tearing apart armies like it was blades of grass. Their maws devoured dead who had lost themselves and become mere husks and thralls, lashing tails ripping through armour like it was nothing.
And then as titans, they clashed with the one who had once stolen the city here. There was no desperation from them this time, no armor besides scales unbreakable as flames and storms and ice and thorns ripped islands apart. There was no desperation besides that of their opponent’s.
There was a pleasure in their victory, before it was wrenched away. What use was a crown when their family wasn’t there? When their daughter, their son, their children were not there by their side?
Paulina laughed, hysterical as ectoplasm dripped from her maw as Kwan howled. Their body was covered in it, their rampage that had no use, no reason leaving a trail of destruction behind them. Is this what they wanted?
No.
Danny raised his head from the dissolving corpses to look towards the obliterated roof of the Keep, once so terrifying now turning to dust like the crown. The crown reforming above their heads, heavy and almost choking.
They would carry this weight together. Would restructure things, would do what they had wanted to do for Amity before the Barriers. They’d work together to rebuild the Realms, make it safer, make it safe for those newly dead.
No matter how long it took, no matter how hard it would be to fix the destruction they had wrought in this meaningless battle. (“Danny, you’re the spokesperson,” Sam spoke up, thorn-like scales ruffling. “You’re most familiar with the realms thanks to the Infinimap.” Fair. “We’ll need allies, we’re only nine people.”)
(“Let me talk to the egyptian afterlife,” Tucker sounded exhausted, hood folding back. “I’m most familiar with them… Star, Paulina, you’re both Princess Dora’s favorites-”)
(“We can do it. Just give us time.” “Maybe a to-do list.” “Clockwork. We need to talk to Clockwork, he’d be most familiar with this.” “Rest first, nerds. We’re all… exhausted.”)
(Valerie laughed tiredly, blades melting to heal a broken horn. “Time isn’t linear here Dash. You know that. I know that. For once we’re the ones with time to spare.” It would take years to get things up to snuff. Make things Safe for when they could bring their families here.)
Their eyes opened as the now flimsy chains shattered, a smile stretching across the shared face of their humanoid form. Soon. They could return to the mortal realm soon. Just a little more, and they could see their little ones.  They'd waited a thousand years, they could wait a few days more.

Arya didn’t know how much Robb would pay for her, though. He was a king now, not the boy she’d left at Winterfell with snow melting in his hair. And if he knew the things she’d done [...] “What if my brother doesn’t want to ransom me?”
immediate tears
“Why would you think that?” asked Lord Beric. “Well,” Arya said, “my hair’s messy and my nails are dirty and my feet are all hard.” Robb wouldn’t care about that, probably, but her mother would. Lady Catelyn always wanted her to be like Sansa, to sing and dance and sew and mind her courtesies. Just thinking of it made Arya try to comb her hair with her fingers, but it was all tangles and mats, and all she did was tear some out
-ARYA VII ASOS
oh. oh ok (falling to the ground, eating the carpet)
eleven years old arya contemplates her family could not want her back because her hair is all messy and her nails are dirty and her feet are all hard. she thinks of her mother, that has never managed to get through her (or has she?) and her first instinct is to fix herself. but the mess is beyond fixing now and all she does is tear some of her hair out. i am clawing at the walls.

Gif: Tenor
No cause for celebration
And so it began, on this day, a full year later, at 43 minutes past noon, British Summer Time…
Particular fans’ take on this anniversary is not one to celebrate, even if their observations were correct.
They’re not. SRH wasn’t there. Nor was his mother. Particular fans have been squeeing over her older brother… and completely missing the point of her comforting him. Twelve family members sat in those first two pews: four siblings in the first, three siblings in the second. Everyone but the child in those pews was named in the notice. The three sons-in-law sat in the second pew. The newest son-in-law held his infant son on his lap, within easy reach of the boy’s mother. No one wore a wig to disguise their identity. There is no speculation or interpretation or wishful thinking or “JMHO” here. There is only reality.
If particular fans want to celebrate, how about celebrating the actual couple’s fourth wedding anniversary? Or the second birthday of their son, also an August event?
One would think arbitrarily reassigning a child’s paternity was as low as particular fans could go. One would be wrong.
For the past year, particular fans have hijacked a deeply personal family event and made it their business. They watched a distorted live-streamed video, took screenshots, misidentified individuals, marked-up, resized, posted, and reposted those images. Why? To salute their #GoldenReceipt.
In reality, they’ve been saluting a #PyriteReceipt. Fool’s gold.
Imagine strangers, watching the video and publicly posting screenshots of your loved one’s funeral, claiming a victory.
No boundaries. No respect. No class.
#ThereAreNoFuneralPics
Louder, for those in the back: There are no “funeral pics.” The distorted screenshots are not photos taken at the funeral.
But there is a candid photo — a clear outdoor shot — of five family members, published in two local newspapers the day after the funeral. Enter more misidentification, marking-up, posting and reposting.
The pictured minor child, whose hair, eyes, ear, feet, and clothing received excessive critical analysis, is apparently fake. Or is it the photo or the newspaper page itself that’s fake? As it is with most conspiracy theories, the devil’s in the details.
Imagine strangers, analysing a photo and publicly posting thoughtless comments about your child, claiming a publicity stunt.
No boundaries. No respect. No class.
And yet… particular fans managed to sink even lower. A month ago, 11 months after the funeral, an absolutely disgraceful post appeared on Tumblr, intended to compare three images of wedding anniversary surprises.
The first image is a screenshot of a wedding day photo posted on Instagram by an actress to celebrate her first wedding anniversary. The image includes a personal message to her husband, a professional athlete.
The second image is a screenshot of a wedding day photo posted on Instagram by an actress to celebrate her fourth wedding anniversary. The image includes a personal message to her husband, a world-renowned musician.
The third image is a pixelated screenshot, a particular fan took from a live-streamed video, of an actress and her brother at their father’s funeral.
Let that sink in.
💭 💭 💭 💭 💭
The date of the funeral coincided with with the actress’s wedding anniversary, but the image has nothing to do with that occasion. Nor did the actress post the image anywhere, much less include a personal message to her husband, a private citizen.
(If there was room for levity here, one might mention two weddings and a funeral. There isn’t.)
“Believe what you want” is not licence for slander. Or indecency. Or deliberate ignorance.
The actress in the third image deserves better. She is a human being with thoughts and feelings and hopes and dreams. She is not a doll or a character in a fan-concocted fairytale.
Imagine strangers, publicly disrespecting your marriage, mocking your spouse, and accusing you of lying and manipulating your way to career success. (Imagine their analysing your body shape and discussing pregnancies that never happened and children that never existed.)
No boundaries. No respect. No class.
Whilst make-believe is child’s play, appropriating a live-streamed funeral is not a game. Time beckons particular fans to brush out their pigtails, pack up Barbie, Ken, and the Dreamhouse, and grow TF up.
Tumblr media
Remember… there’s going too far. Then there’s going where you never should have been.

serving the king even when the king was evil (believe god will punish tyrants) was impossibly central to the medieval chivalric cult and part of the reason why everything jaime does that is good or makes sense makes him a terrible knight. when reading grrm’s work i often like to guess what historical texts he’s read that inspired specific plot points and if he hasn’t read the history of william marshal (exceptionally rare contemporary biography) i’d be surprised. remembered it because i’m having a criston cole phase and marshal was a relatively lowborn (needed a sponsor to have horse and armour to compete) tourney knight who elevated himself to regent/protector of the realm but also it makes me think about aerys’ kingsguard because marshal is praised for serving evil king john loyally, it’s a mark of what a good man he is. the text has an agenda but it’s obviously also drunk the kool aid so it’s to a modern reader to unpick morality when the code of morals mainly exists as a tool of class stratification

A question that doesn't come up often enough: Where's the rest of Trevor's family?
We know the entire Belmont line was almost completely annihilated in a mob, but the series is pretty vague on how many people were actually living in the house. With a high mortality of the medieval period, families were often big and with an occupation as dangerous as hunting monsters, the Belmonts were probably no different. This was very much a 'survival of the fittest' and 'heir and plenty of spares' mentality.
Trevor lost his family at twelve, so it's very unlikely he was the only sibling. But even in the event his parents were extremely unfortunate and he was their only surviving child, the multiple siblings theory still applies to the previous generations.
So his immediate family was killed. What about the extended family?
Tumblr media
In Lament of Innocence, Leon Belmont was a French baron, but he gave up his land and titles to rescue Sara. Following the storyline of the Netflix series, he then chased Dracula east and neither the games nor series ever mention what became of him other than the fact he fathered the entire bloodline.
Based on the games, it would be safe to assume the Belmonts are not part of the aristocracy, but as far as the series goes, they are mentioned as one of Wallachia's 'great houses' in the first couple episodes. They're not unknown to the Wallachian people. Plus, the reigning Prince of Wallachia did have the power to invest anyone he chose with a noble title. The real Vlad the Impaler actually made use of this power by elevating members of the lower classes, effectively ensuring their loyalty through gratitude. (Because if he was overthrown, things weren't going to go well for the people who benefited from his rise to power.)
So it's not impossible that somewhere in the 400 years between Leon and Trevor, some Belmont won the favor of Wallachia's monarch and was rewarded with a boyar lord's title.
Tumblr media
'Not much of a family and not for long' seems to indicate the line was already pretty diminished before the mob attacked.
Trevor only mentions his family a handful of times throughout the four seasons, and the only specific members that come up are his parents with the reference to his mother's books and the story of how his father had once gotten into a fight with a Speaker.
The only other time his parents come up is in Season 2 when Sypha asks if they were magicians, to which he answers no, but they knew a lot about magic. At the very least, this shows both of his parents were alive long enough for him to remember them. Otherwise, the story about the fight with the Speaker could have easily been told to him by another relative that had been looking after him while the books Trevor mentions that belonged to his mother could have just been part of the family's collection after she was long gone.
With some historical context (provided we adhere to accuracy,) this actually gives some insight to Trevor's childhood. He would have known his mother very well. Unlike many other European countries where the nobility left childrearing to a nurse and other staff, the education of a boyar's son in Wallachia was actually left to the women of the household. His mother would have likely overseen every part of his upbringing that wasn't physical combat training, which would have been his father's domain.
Tumblr media
Another possibility worth exploring is his mother was the Belmont and his father was the one who married into the family. An unusual if not unheard of dynamic for the times, but the series does subtly imply the women of the family were as much of hunters as the men when Trevor talks about how only one member of his family encountered the Infinite Corridor. It's possible they could have adopted other more non-traditional roles for the times.
This also accounts for his complete lack of surprise in Episode 3 when 'the Elder's grandchild' turns out to be a granddaughter and again in Episode 4 when Sypha reveals herself as a mage.
Tumblr media
So we've established both of Trevor's parents were alive and well for a significant part of his early life. On to the extended family.
Unless the Belmonts were practicing Targaryen levels of incest (although marrying one's cousin was an accepted practice in this time,) Trevor should have had other relatives to rely on. Assuming the family had a traditional dynamic and his mother did indeed marry into the Belmont line, and since aristocrats generally married other aristocrats, her father would have been one of the boyar lords of the region. The same applies if his father had sisters who married into other families.
Given the primary goal of marriage in this time period was less romantic and more in the interest of forming alliances with other families for political or financial reasons, there could also be a wider family network among the nobility at play.
Tumblr media
Side note: There's a small possibility he's distantly related to one or both of these two.
...
So what happened to those other relatives?
Personally, I think the answer to this question might play into the cynicism and bitterness of Trevor's character in general. If we explore the scenario that he did seek help from his mother's family, people who had no ties to the Belmonts other than the fact their sister/daughter married into the family, with the self-serving atmosphere of the Wallachian aristocracy at the time, I can imagine him being met with a cold reception.
And sadly, this would be an all too realistic situation for the times. As stated above, the boyars were corrupt.  There wasn’t a clear hierarchy among the nobility (That is, Wallachia did not have the equivalent of dukes, earls, viscounts, etc.) so power was determined by wealth or land-owning.  This rivalry for power went all the way to the top; Wallachia's throne changed hands once every couple years as the Dănești and Drăculești branches of the reigning family relentlessly fought over it.
In this minefield of political intrigue, the only surviving member of an otherwise shattered bloodline, especially a twelve year old excommunicate, would not have been of much use in the eyes of the nobility. With the Belmonts disgraced with heresy charges, neither branches of the reigning family would have been interested in their support and probably would have wanted to distance themselves from an alliance that could potentially damage their own reputation.
A public rejection from the Prince would have rebounded throughout the region and put the final nail in the coffin of what the Church started. None of the boyars would have been interested in helping Trevor, distant family or not. On the other hand, helping their orphaned and disgraced nephew/grandson is the Christian thing to do, but since Trevor and his murdered family are now enemies of the Church and out of favor with Wallachia's monarch, that 'help' might've extended only as far as, "We're deeply sorry for your circumstances. Here's some money, now get out."
So Trevor was born into one of the highest and most privileged classes in the region and is the product of literally generations of a family that has had two goals since Leon: protecting the world from Dracula and the destruction of Dracula. The night of the mob would have completely shattered a mentality he'd had since he was born. Throw that on top of that the trauma of losing one’s home and entire immediate family in a single night and then being vilified by both the people his family had protected and the wider circle of his extended family.
That is a brutal shift in world views for a twelve year old to handle, so it's easy to see why the series opens with him already burned up the anger and the grief over what happened and all that’s left for him is the aimless wandering, drinking, and getting into fights.
Tumblr media
In all, this statement really summed up the beginning of his character arc perfectly.

Every single SWTOR Republic mission
Game: Alright, the Sith are planning to attack Corellia's shipyard. We've known this for at least weeks now and thus had plenty of time to prepare.
Me: Great! Sounds fun, so let's get on with the battle.
Game: BUT WAIT!!!!! The Empire's attacking civilians you'll never see, meet, or hear from ever again! And the ONLY WAY to help them is to let the Sith blow up a bunch of Republic ships and endanger the whole war effort!
Me: Seriously, again with this? How many freaking times are we going to contrive this dilemma? Can I just fight a battle normally for once?
Game: But you don't understand! Darth Malgus' last plan was so feeble and pathetic we need to force some kind of victory for him to brag about when you confront him later!
Me: But this is the most predictable plan he could've possibly used. How on earth can the Republic have not seen this coming? And wait a second, if we knew about this attack in advance why didn't we evacuate the civilian populace? Heck, Correllia's been the frontline of the whole war so far, aren't there shelters, orbital cannons, shields, anything?
Game: Nope, the whole thing's completely undefended and the Republic put all their Navy on one side of the planet and didn't take advantage of the opportunity Malgus stupidly dividing his fleet would create.
Me: For crying out loud, why is every superweapon, military advantage, and resource the Republic finds locked behind one of these dilemmas while the Empire just gets to crap out new ones every other week?
Game: Uhh...
Me: The Null Cannon, the Barrager, special droid designs, the Powerguards... Can we just get one for once without some contrived reason for why that'd be the dark side option? Heck, why are we even doing yet another "defend against the Empire" mission? They never matter anyways because every time you cripple them they somehow just spawn another giant army out of nowhere. Five years ago they were almost crippled completely, can we go back to that? How about the Republic attacks them for once. I want to liberate some Imperial worlds, how about it?
Game: Nope, just the same old dilemma over and over again. Are you going to yet again let the Empire win or be a bad mama jama and let the civilians who should've been evacuated and that you'll never hear from again die?
Me: ... Whelp, I think that's enough SWTOR for the year.
