You receive a care package of bandages, mittens, and 20 pokedollars. Inside is also a child's drawing of a man in pokemon Ranger Gear. Attached to the drawing is a short letter. "My son wants to be a ranger when he grows up. Do you have any advice for him?" It's signed Taki and Wex.
Oh my Arceus someone actually sent a package with the stuff I asked for this is the best day of my life. Now I need to find a frame for this picture too. I gotta respond to the letter, though. Let's see, paper, paper... Okay, here we go.
My biggest advice is to actively learn about the pokemon in your region, especially the ones in your area. Not just by reading books, but by carefully interacting with them in a way that's safe for you both, like playing with a friend or neighbor's pokemon. Experience with Pokemon is key since a lot of the job involves feeling out situations as you react and the more you know about a species of pokemon the better you'll do. Books can teach you plenty but only experience will help you understand exactly why pokemon are reacting in certain ways in certain situations. Take the Darumaka incident recently. Darumaka usually don't end up in the middle of a busy road during a freezing cold evening. In fact, that's the last place they would be. But they were there, and when I figured out that the pack had been attempting to hastily migrate further south due to the sudden cold at their home nearby becoming dangerous to them it made sense. And once I figured that out, I needed to understand the pokemon on a personal level--what their needs were in that moment and how I could help meet them. And once I was able to give them all disposable hand warmers to hold onto they quickly became more docile as they felt safer. There's nothing in a book that suggests giving hand warmers to cold Darumaka--it's just something I learned growing up with my friend's Darumaka, who would always have a hand warmer in its arms on days where it got cold.
I know that's all kind of verbal diarrhea, but my point is, get to know pokemon as more than just companions or battle partners but as living creatures with their own thoughts, personalities, and needs. See what needs they have that aren't being mrt and come up with creative (and safe) ways to fill those needs. Soon enough you'll have a wide variety of accessible solutions to whatever needs the pokemon has, and you'll be on track to be a ranger in no time.
Note to self: do not mention that I broke the window of a person's car on Skyarrow Bridge because they would not stop honking and it was stressing out the Darumaka more and more, even if getting them to stop was key in calming down the Darumaka

love love love steddie + supportive wanye
thinking about wayne and eddie going on an annual fishing trip (like thee Munson Men Annual Fishing Trip™️) just like a little weekend away. and the first one is coming up after eddie and steve starts dating. over breakfast eddie jokingly complains about having to go and tries to get out of it. but wayne is used to his dramatics so he just gives hmms when appropriate because eddie’s whole spiel never got him out of it before and he tells eddie that.
steve watches the whole exchange with amusement when wayne asks if he’s looking forward to it. and he’s like ??? because he assumed it was just a wayne and eddie thing. and wayne is like i just told eddie all munsons must go can’t get out of it kid.
steve gets flustered and is internally is like oh??? all munsons,,,
or like after the trip a neighbor asks wayne if they caught anything and he pulls out his wallet to show a picture they took on the trip. wayne passes it with ‘here’s a picture of my boys’ and to steve’s surprise it’s a picture of both him and eddie with their biggest catch.
and just idk wayne casually accepting steve into their family and throwing steve off guard with it.
