I've had these thoughts in my head for days now, but I finally put my ass down and am writing it now. Because I can't and will never let go of my beloved boat show, here it goes. Lots of thoughts and theories all over the place. This is a long one.
**************************************
Some people had theories that there are multiple simulations running at the same time. I actually like that one, and there are some of the things that could really justify that theory. Now, some of them might be mistakes in editing, but this is not a normal show we're talking about. These people pay attention to tiny details, they don't make common mistakes.
There are a lot of parallels with the characters, but there are also some things that you just can't explain. For example:
- In episode 6 when Eyk and Maura go down her memory shaft and exit the tunnel, they leave their lanterns at the end. Picture below:
Tumblr media
Daniel follows them, goes down the shaft, exists the tunnel, yet their lanterns are missing. It's pretty clear they didn't take them. They left them there. No lanterns when Daniel jumps off.
Tumblr media
Of course, just like I've said, this can be a common mistake in editing and filming, but I still think it isn't, I think it's more important than that.
- Then we have the passenger list Eyk finds on the Prometheus. While him and Maura are there, when he sees it for the first time, his name isn't there. Later, he is signed as the captain when he shows it to Maura, even before that, when he looks at it again at the end of the episode.
- When Maura locks Daniel up in the room in the mental hospital, it is clearly shown she turns around and leaves while he calls after her, yet later, after she yells calling after Henry and discovers the limitation of the sim, she is again in the hallway in front of the door, like she never left, looking at it as Daniel calls after her again.
Now, these are just a few things that can be used to support the multiple sims theory, but my rant here isn't about multiple sims running at the same time, it's about the previous sims we don't know anything about. Or do we?
So, to put it simply first, I think that the "memories" the characters have on the Kerberos are actually a representation of the roles they played in the previous sim, or sims. It's pretty much certain they aren't real, but they can be a projection of "past lives" in past sims.
It is confirmed by Henry that Kerberos is unique, aka that no sim had ever played out like this one. He says to Daniel something along the lines of "good job using the Prometheus to get to the Kerberos, still you failed". This means that no other sim before had had a missing ship and straying off course because of a missing ghost ship. And it makes perfect sense. Why? Well, if you pay attention, Kerberos and Prometheus are not exact copies of each other. While Kerberos' funnels are red, the Prometheus' are kind of yellowish. If you look closely at the ships in the graveyard or archive, as far as the eye can see, all the ships are Prometheus judging by the looks of it. There might be a third ship of the company that looks exactly like Prometheus, but it's highly unlikely. Now, driven by this, like I've said, it makes perfect sense that no previous sim had a missing ship as a force to drag the plot, because it wouldn't really make any sense to have a ship called Prometheus receive a distress signal from a missing ship called Prometheus. It would be stupid to have one ship search for another that is exactly the same. Plus, Elliot saying "we never got this far" must mean something too.
Following this: In episode 6, Daniel dispatches Eyk off to the Prometheus. Or is it A Prometheus?
Eyk ends up in the woods, familiar to all of us as the woods from his "memory" on the Kerberos. But, we are never shown anything but the woods in that moment. No house, burnt down or still standing, no family, no wife, no children, just the woods. The next we see of him is when he is getting out of the shaft and to his cabin on the Prometheus, or a Prometheus. So, there is no guarantee that his "memory" was the same on a Prometheus he ends up on at the end of episode 6. (I remember GoT theories back in the day claiming no character is truly dead in Westeros until we see his death on screen, off screen means life)
At the end of episode 3 when Daniel plays with his tetris, he teleports the Kerberos to another place at the simulation sea, Prometheus stays there. Again, we are never shown that *that* Prometheus is ever teleported back to the archive. Thus, a Prometheus Eyk is dispatched to doesn't have to be THE Prometheus, it can be one of the previous Prometheuses gone to the archive, containing different memories and hiding different lives the passengers lived through on it. Now, it does look the same as our Prometheus, but then again, so do all of the other ships in the graveyard.
When Eyk is sitting at his desk on a Prometheus and is drinking his sorrows away just before the Kerberos comes to the archive, we get a focus on the empty frame on his desk. We never see any focus on the desk or the captain's cabin on the Prometheus before that. There have already been many discussions about his family photo and the frame and Maura's emotional reaction to it, but I think it's pretty much taken as true that the photo that belonged to that empty frame was Maura's photo Daniel brought with him to the Kerberos. That photo looks exactly like Prometheus. It looks old and washed out, like it's been left in harsh conditions for years, just like the ship when we see it for the first time. It also looks like it's been specifically made to fit in a frame. And, it looks completely different from all the other photos from Daniel's memory.
Tumblr media
The tobacco box in this picture is the same as the one sitting on Eyk's desk on the Kerberos and Maura uses it to trap Alfred.
The conclusion to this would be that their roles were different in the previous sims and that on a Prometheus Eyk ends up on, or more than one, Maura was his wife, or they were something else to each other. Meaning, that was their role in the sim, which can mean it was either a projection of their reality outside of the sim, or just a role they kept playing.
Also, in a different sim, Daniel could be her husband. In one sim, Elliot is her son, while in another, she lost her child. It would explain why she insists on not feeling anything towards someone who is supposed to be her own child.
This led me to believe that Daniel is actually trying to make her remember not her reality, but maybe an earlier sim, one of the earliest, or the first where their roles were those he claims and those from his memory. We know there have been too many sims. So, what if with each sim, their minds go deeper and deeper and more out of touch with reality and the only way to wake up is to go back through the sims that wasn't too deep and could still be escapable. It still doesn't determine whether he is real or not, though.
He says: "you have to wake up, or there will be nothing left to wake up to". This can be accepted as some sort of post-apocalyptic reference, especially because we have the spaceship survival mission in the end, but I think it's more of a reference to physical body that can no longer wake up if it goes too deep into the layers of the simulation.
Now, to Daniel's memory. His memory is placed in the big pyramid we see. Right across from the pyramid is Henry's building, aka the mental hospital. So, Henry is in Daniel's memory on the Kerberos, which is why Maura couldn't find his office in hers. If I follow my theory about the shafts containing "previous sim lives", Henry could be stuck in a previous simulation. Though why he can't get out while everyone else can, that's still a mystery to me.
Anyway, I hope this makes sense to someone because in my head, it sounded pretty good and better than a lot of other theories I've had so far.
I will never let go of the boat show, I have made my peace with it.

If Fyodor being around as long as he has to do with his ability, would Dazai be the only one who would actually be able to kill him? Would Dazai have to die with him as a result? Are Dazai and Fyodor be more connected than we think? Will Sigma ever wake up? If he does will he wake up in time for it to matter? If Fyodor is hundreds of years old does that make Fyolai old man yaoi?

[Spoilers for MHA 395]
If Himiko is truly on her death bed here and she isn’t making it through the battle, then Dabi needs to die. He endured far greater injuries than she did, burning himself from the inside out to the point of barely having any skin on his bones. Her dying but him living would be a huge slap on the face. That isn’t even mentioning that Himiko has been presented as sympathetic and wanting to be understood while Dabi has been shown to hurt anyone, blood related or not, to achieve his obsessive goal of killing Endeavor and hurting him in whatever ways possible. If the character with the greatest chance of being saved dies, then the character with the lowest chance of being saved needs to also die.

Wanna ramble about a moment/character in ninjago you think people need to talk about more?
I don't know who you are anon, but I'm glad you asked!
I am desperate for people to character-analyze Wu. I'm desperate for a lot of character analysis including Nya but since I got a lot of my Nya feelings out with some lovely folks the other night (edit: the other night was a month ago dw about it. this took a minute) I'm going with Wu this time
Master Wu to me is such an interesting case of a character who it is so easy to ignore the bits of the show that hint at his wider issues and traumas. He is a man defined heavily by his family and by his past. A lot of criticism he gets, I think, is due in part to that.
I've mentioned before that I've been rewatching S1 with a friend of mine and intermittently pausing to infodump on them about interesting character things I notice from that season. A lot of that has been Wu-focused because despite having seen RotS dozens of times throughout my life (watching it on CN, watching it on Netflix when only it and Legacy were around, rewatching it with friends) I have only just started noticing the seeds of character written in.
I might also just be reading too much into things, but hear me out
In S1 (and by extension, the pilots), Wu is characterized as your typical old wise teacher. In the first few minutes of EP1: Rise of the Snakes, he is chewing out the Ninja for playing video games instead of training. The line he uses? "Never put off until tomorrow what can be done today."
It's a line that gets repeated throughout the series. In fact, it gets repeated that very episode when the ninja go (pun not intended) to fight the Hypnobrai and a literal pre-teen. At first, it seems to just be a piece of wisdom. Some old proverb Wu's picked up over the years, possibly one he even coined himself. However, in EP7: Tick Tock, Wu tells the story of who, possibly, first told him this.
Tumblr media
(Source: Tick Tock/Transcript | Ninjago Wiki | Fandom, highlight added.)
It was Garmadon. Now, I'm not gonna dwell too long on Garmadon, if you spend five minutes talking to me you'll learn he was the first character whose story I obsessed over and I want this essay to be about Wu, but I think he plays a role in Wu's overall story, as does Wu's family as a whole.
Prior to this, Wu and Garmadon's relationship has been more of a sibling rivalry taken to a good vs. evil extreme. We didn't know why Garmadon was evil and we didn't know about Wu and his relationship as kids. However, this scene establishes the backstory. They were, as Wu puts it, "the best of friends." That is, until Garmadon gets bit by the Devourer going to get the katana Wu lost.
Now, I know the Devourer bite was destined to happen because of the Overlord or some shit, but Wu doesn't. As far as he's concerned, Garmadon getting bit was a direct consequence of both his mistake and his cowardice. He lost the katana. He was too scared to get it. Garmadon went over instead. Garmadon got bit.
The scene goes on to show the FSM tending to Garmadon in the aftermath. Wu is watching from behind the door, likely told to stay back, but concerned. And in his POV, we get this intense moment, where Garmadon turns, looks directly at him (his eyes turning bright red for the first time), and says "It's all Wu's fault!"
(This clip should begin at the start of Wu eavesdropping. If it doesn't, skip to 0:58. I highly recommend also paying attention to Wu's body language during this scene.)
The camerawork does a great job of showing how this probably felt for Wu. It zooms in, Garmadon's voice echoes, and the background blurs. We see in the flashback that this is a moment Wu has etched into his memory. Not to mention, he was likely a very young child when this happened. LEGO characters' ages are weird, but Wu in this scene has the Big Eyes, which always seem to be used for characters under 12. We don't know exactly how much older Garmadon is to my knowledge, but he doesn't have the Big Eyes, so he's probably closer to 12 and a few years older than Wu for sure.
Imagine that. Being in elementary school and your older siblings gets hurt. They're acting strange. They're lashing out at your father. Then, they blame it all on you. They're hurt because of you. Wouldn't you internalize that?
I could go on about Wu's relationship with Garmadon, but again, I think I've spent enough time on it and I don't want to only focus on that. It's an important part, but there are others.
Let's talk about Wu's relationship with his dad.
Now, I have not yet read the Spinjitzu Brothers series. I cannot speak to any development of Wu and the FSM's relationship in there. I have, however, read The Book of Spinjitzu and blogged some of my thoughts on it here, including some of what it says about Wu.
For those who haven't read it, first, there is a Google Drive folder floating around with all of the canon spinoff books/graphic novels in it. Here's the link if you wanna read them!
The FSM is an... intriguing figure. I mean, in the series he's basically god? He made the entire world. That's already a very high bar to live up to. Then, in Book of Spinjitzu, there's a few specific parts that, when I read them, signaled that Wu internalized a specific message when he was young.
Tumblr media
(Source: The Book of Spinjitzu, Page 3).
Wu does not want to disappoint his father. It is up to him (and Garmadon until he turns evil) to "uphold the legacy of Spinjitzu" and, by extension, his family. He says he was "very young" when this was explained to him. Considering he seems to already be training at an elementary age, "very young" means VERY young.
Tumblr media
(Source: The Book of Spinjitzu, Page 16).
Here, we again see Wu being very aware that he has some large burden to carry. Something else interesting here is that the thought of the Green Ninja Prophecy is already weighing on him too. His considering if he might be the Green Ninja is of extra interest because of how the Green Ninja Prophecy and the--I wouldn't call it obsession, possibly fixation?--with who it is factors into his later actions, but we'll get to that later.
Tumblr media
(Source: The Book of Spinjitzu, Page 19).
This one in particular gets me because it comes after Wu mentions Garmadon becoming more evil. It is a statement of power. Wu knows that the legacy of Spinjitzu now rests in his hands alone. He cannot let himself fall the way Garmadon did. He cannot disappoint his father. Whether or not the FSM intended it, Wu always knew the fate of the world rested, at least in part, upon his shoulder. He knew this from the time he was a young boy and it remains in his mind to this day.
Now, these quotes are indirect, but they all point to one clear idea: As a child, Wu internalized the idea that he alone is responsible for keeping Ninjago safe. He will play a pivotal role in its history.
There's not evidence in this book that the FSM's was a bad father, per se. However, just because one doesn't set out to harm their children, doesn't mean they won't. I often say Wu has an "Atlas complex," which I have no idea if it is an actual concept but use it to refer to this idea. Wu feels as though he is responsible for holding up the world, much like Atlas. He must keep the balance, he must solve the Green Ninja prophecy, he must make his father proud.
Tumblr media
(Source: The Book of Spinjitzu, page 61).
I'm going to get further into what this means for Wu as a teacher to the current Ninja Team, but for now let's look at Wu's first foray into teaching.
Morro. Wu's Biggest Mistake.
That might seem like an overstatement, but it's not.
Tumblr media
(Source: Ghost Story/Transcript | Ninjago Wiki | Fandom)
Okay he says regret, not mistake, but I was paraphrasing.
Let's turn back to his quote about his destiny. Wu writes, "Is my life's mission to be the Green Ninja? Or maybe it will be to find the Green Ninja and protect him (or her)??"
From a very young age, Wu was not only aware of the Green Ninja but prophecy but also thinking about his place in it. We see this again when he takes Morro in and trains him.
Tumblr media
(Source: Ghost Story/Transcript | Ninjago Wiki | Fandom, highlight added)
A big thing Wu is criticized for here is making Morro believe he is meant to be more. That he is the Chosen One. And Morro, being a young homeless orphan just now given some semblance of power and protection, latches onto that. And I can see it, but when you take into account the above that he was trained from (likely) a younger age than Morro and given a similar level of responsibility, it becomes more understandable. Wu is just doing what he was taught. He doesn't believe that he is harming Morro until it is too late.
youtube
This is the entire story, but I'm specifically going to be discussing 1:36 onwards here. I also wanted to add that rewatching this scene made me lay down on the floor! What the fuck! But I digress.
There's a lot going on in this scene. For one, Wu washing his hands of Morro in some ways, but not others. He turns his back on Morro when he tells him that destiny has decided, but looks at him again when Morro storms out. He goes to save Morro from the Grundal, but decides that he cannot "teach those who would not listen." Most importantly, when Morro leaves to go find the Tomb of the FSM, Wu leaves the door open. He waits for Morro to return, but never goes after him. And Morro never comes back.
Wu gives Morro's fate a dismissive response at the end of his ghost story ("I am saddened he was banished to the Cursed Realm") but it's clear he still cares deeply about him in the finale of the season.
youtube
Wu's VA in this is phenomenal btw. That "Please Morro!" and "MORRO!" make my heart ache.
Morro believed Wu stopped caring, but he didn't. Even after all he's done, even after trying to destroy all of Ninjago--destroying what Wu had spent his life trying to protect--Wu tries to save him. He begs for Morro to come with him. Morro refuses, Wu watches him perish.
Someone else Wu is close to is gone. Wu again considers himself responsible. Everything is his fault.
And finally, we reach Wu today. A cautious, secretive man. He loves his students, this much is clear. Even as early as the pilots, he drops his wise teacher persona to joke around with them.
youtube
As with Morro, he trains them like his father did him. He even uses the same methods his father used when he trains them.
Tumblr media
(Source: The Book of Spinjitzu, page 32)
youtube
While he is hard on the Ninja, wanting them to succeed and training them to help defend the Realm, he lets his guard down more than it seems he did with Morro. He also learned a valuable message from his experience with Morro when he hides the Green Ninja Prophecy from the Ninja, getting angry when they start to push themselves in the same way Morro did upon learning about it. It's clear he doesn't want a repeat.
Now, I can't speak for later seasons (I will eventually) but this fear of repeats, his students going down a dark path because they're tempted by power or greatness, losing someone else, likely drives Wu not telling them other important information. That is just a passing thought though.
Final notes:
I'm currently in the process of rewatching S7: Hands of Time. I actually got this ask right after finishing EP68: Scavengers, which opens with Wu having a nightmare. In it, he and Misako are walking outside of Yang's temple. While walking, Misako delivers this line in response to Wu reminiscing about the time they've spent together:
Tumblr media
(Source: Scavengers/Transcript | Ninjago Wiki | Fandom)
This line, to me, is Wu's subconscious trying to tell him something he needs to hear. It's hinting at what might be his greatest flaw. Wu is haunted by his past, by his mistakes. He finds it difficult to tell others because of both his guilt and his desire to not put that worry upon them. In this very season, he makes the mistake of trying to face his past on his own, and he nearly dies for it.
In the same episode, you see Wu trying to make sure Lloyd doesn't make the same mistakes.
Tumblr media
(Source: Prev)
Wu stresses the important of the team. It's as if he sees Lloyd blaming himself for what happened to Wu, sees him doing the same thing Wu has, and is trying to prevent him from doing the same thing. This is further emphasized when, after Wu falls asleep (well, fakes falling asleep), Lloyd says "Wu's mistake was going in alone. So was mine."
Master Wu is, like many characters in this show, someone who is more complex than meets the eye. He is not just a wise, old teacher. He is a man who, throughout his life, has made mistakes and carries the weight of each of them on his shoulders. He is a man who tasks himself with making up for those every day. He is a man who wants better for his students, his family.
Until the day he dies, he will guide and protect his students. And possibly? Even after death too.
#ninjago#lego ninjago#master wu#long post#anon tag#this made my day i looooooooooooooove character analysis#i know a lot of what i post about it may not encompass the full series but i just think that makes it more fun tbh#i'm working with what i have and later i may come back to this and add even more things#i'm also very passionate about wu analysis as a former wu hater because i think the fact that his character stuff is so buried#leads to a lot of the hate#Why didn't he tell the ninja things? well he told morro things and look how that turned out#he grew up believing the weight of the world was on his shoulders#in one way or another#i won't lie and say the man does not make mistakes#but like i mention in s7 when he does he is fucking haunted by them#he is not breaking the generational trauma but he is damn well making an attempt for someone who probably doesn't realize he has it#p.s i tried to add image desc to each ss to make it more accessible but if i messed it up please let me know!#i spent way too much time on this#somebody do a word count i'm curious but too tired to copy this all into docs#falls over#part 2 of this is just the dark island trilogy but i think i'm gonna wait to do that#this took so long and the words are now refusing to words#thank you for reading#i need to take a nap after writing this I feel physically spent#please enjoy another rook branded ramble disguised as a comprehensive essay#other essayists bring you professionalism and academic vibes#i scream into the void and put way too many links o7#happy birthday ninjago!!!! i finished this in honor of you hopefully it is worthy

@proshipper-on-ship thank you for the Dick & Dan idea you added to my other post, please enjoy some of the fall out your comment resulted in haha
“So,” Bruce tried, looking hesitantly pleased at the surprisingly light atmosphere around the table. “Anything new and exciting going on with anyone?”
There was a smattering of answers from around the table. Jason didn’t offer anything - which wasn’t surprising, that he was even there and largely not starting a fight was more than enough as far as Dick was concerned - but with some ribbing from Steph, Tim eventually admitted to finally asking that boy he’d been interested in out. Dick joined in on teasing his little brother - and even Jay gave, for him, some gentle ribbing over finally getting the balls to do something, eh Timberland? - while very carefully avoiding mentioning his own sorta-kinda thing with Dan in Bludhaven. He’d deal with his siblings making him miserable and embarrassed over it all when he actually scored a date with him thanks very much.
Things were going good.
And then Damian cleared his throat, looking imperious and uninterested at the same time as he waited for everyone to turn to look at him.
“I have an announcement on an alteration to my personal life.” He declared, chin up and looking like he was already over this whole family-bonding-time thing, which was fair. Damian had gotten better over the years, but he was still not exactly the cute and cuddly little brother. Dick still had the scar from the last time he tried to hug Dami without warning a year ago and got stabbed for the effort. Still, he was sharing, willingly even! That’s progress!
At the head of the table Bruce tilted his head, looking as cautiously hopeful as Dick felt over the youngest Wayne actually offering to share something personal. “Have you decided on what college you want to go to then?”
“No.” Dami dismissed easily, without more than a glance in Bruce’s direction. “Night and I have decided to take some time to travel before continuing any further schooling.”
Huh, honestly, Dick was kinda surprised. With how much of a perfectionist Dami was, he’d thought he’d throw himself into college with the same ferocious, competitive drive he did everything else. But then again, if Elle Nightingale was going to be taking a gap year or two, it wasn’t as if it was that much of a surprise that Dami would go and join her.
The two gremlins had been practically inseparable since they were twelve and discovered a shared love of stabbing people and adopting every animal they see. If Dami’s best friend was going to go gallivanting across the world like she always dreamed of doing, Dick couldn’t actually be that  surprised that Dami would be going with her.
Dick took a sip of his drink as Dami opened his mouth to continue with what was probably going to be to most people the world’s most harrowing game of “how many incredibly dangerous animals can we see before we end up dead on our gap year” that the two demons were undoubtedly planning.
He regretted taking that sip almost immediately as Damian said, “Night and I took our marital vows yesterday. She sends her regrets that she was unable to join us for family dinner tonight.”
Predictably, the room broke out into utter chaos.
Dick choked on his drink, spraying across the table and splattering Babs with a shower of wine. She didn’t even seem to notice, dropping her own glass as she snapped her head over to stare at Damian, the sound of breaking glass and a deep red stain pooling across the table following as she did. At the end of the table, Jay made a noise like a dying goose as the samosa he’d just popped in his mouth threatened to kill him. Cass, perhaps the most outwardly calm at the proclamation, only stared with wide eyes at her younger brother as she hit Jason on the back in an attempt to make sure he didn’t die.
Dick could practically hear the old shrieking AOL dial up noise that was Tim’s brain attempting to process what his little brother had just said, while sitting next to him Steph gave a small shriek of you what? Duke’s head was on a swivel, eyes darting from Damian, to another family member, to Damian and back again as if unsure who to even look at in the moment.
Bruce just…stared, frozen in place, face caught in the most open look of shock Dick thinks the man has ever shown in his life.
---
Damian sniffed and cast a caustic look towards - of all people - Jason, “Unlike some people, I share my good news with the family in a timely manner.”
Jay sputtered, “You know what, fuck you! Fine, you want me to share the news?” Jay snapped his head towards the rest of them. “Jazz is pregnant, baby is due next month on the sixth. Baby shower’s next weekend at Robinson Park, show up or don’t, I really don’t give a fuck.”
Or maybe he was just going to try to kill them with a heart attack.
“What the fuck?!”
“Language!”
“Who the fuck is Jazz?!”
“Language!”
“Night’s elder sister and guardian, Drake, keep up. You should know this, you’re dating her brother.”
“I’m what?”
“And Grayson is having flirtations with her other brother.”
“Dan is Elle’s older brother? Wait - how do you know about that?”
“Todd and I are in the Nightingale family group chat. We have endured far too much waxing poet about your posterior over the past months.”
“Why do they all have variations of the same name? Who gives all their children the same name?”
“He likes my ass?”
“Oh my god, bigger picture Dick, focus.”
“Seriously, do they all have the same name outside of the older sister? I feel like we need to acknowledge they all have the same name.”
“Can we go back to the fact that Damian got married? To Elle? Yesterday? How did you even do that without anyone knowing?
“Dr. Nightingale is a notary.”
“...Dr. Nightingale as in the woman Bruce is investigating Dr. Nightingale?”
“Okay but the name thing? Please tell me you’re not naming the baby some variation of the name Daniel.”
“If the gremlins get their way it will be. Do you know how many lists we’ve made that they keep sabotaging?”
“So you have Dan’s number? Could you give it to me?”
“Jesus Christ, Dick I’m begging you.”
“Why did you guys even get married?”
“For the diplomatic immunity.”
“You don’t have diplomatic immunity.”
“I do now.”
“What does that mean?”

Helaegon prompt: Maelor's egg hatches in the night and they wake up to a little dragon and their youngest laughing jumping on their bed
Oh that's adorable! Let's try <3 I strayed a bit from the dragon being the main focus, and it's kinda divided into two sections; I hope that's fine. -
The crickets sing outside the red bricks of the Keep. Helaena watches quietly as Maelor sits on Aegon's lap, playing with the gold ring on his father's finger. Every now and then, a night like this comes, when Aegon is caught by the children, and is anchored by them in their room. Helaena sits, watching from afar on the bed; it is growing late, but Maelor has been doing his best to keep himself awake and his father engaged. Aegon yawns, half-asleep on the chair. "Twerp," he says crassly, catching the roundness of their son's cheek between their fingers. "You need to go to bed." Maelor brings his hand to Aegon's palm, grabbing it. He shakes his head. "I don' want," he mumbles, leaning onto his abdomen. Aegon inhales quickly; there are circles around his eyes. Helaena almost pities him. She knows the feeling, too. "You need to sleep to grow," Aegon tries again. "It's important."
"Papa's important," the boy retorts. Aegon stills visibly and breathes in. Maelor is soft-spoken, as much as a toddler can be, but his words tend to hit sharp. Helaena rises from the bed. She shouldn't let Maelor see his father freeze like this.
"How about you sleep with us today?" she asks. To some degree, the question is for both of them. If Aegon wants to shy away, then he would find a way to refuse; but it is a firm offer, trying to convince him not to. Maelor would be so happy, if he'll agree.
Aegon looks at her somewhat apprehensively but keeps quiet, looking back to Maelor, whose eyes widen and gleam at the idea as he gasps childishly. "And Eggy too?" he asks. "Eggy?" Aegon tilts his head. "Am I Eggy?" he asks her half appalled at the prospect. Helaena snorts to herself before shaking her head. "You can bring your dragon egg too, Maelor," she clarifies.
"Okay!" He beams, and finally slides off his father's legs, rushing to go get his pale green egg. She watches him go. Aegon melts back into the chair, rubbing his eyes. "Fucking Eggy," he laughs tiredly as his hands run over his face. "Have you done it on purpose?" he asks her. She ponders what to say for a moment before she decides to nod. "Would that be bad?" she asks him back. "He loves his father. What could be the worst of it?" His gaze is unreadable as he thinks. She's sure, he filled his mind with plenty of possibilities, pessimist deep within himself. But it does not matter; some risks are worth taking. He tries to stand up, and his legs almost buckle. "Fuck, My legs are numb."
Still, he goes towards the bed. She thinks he knows he shouldn't run away, too. When a servant returns Maelor, his green and silver egg in his hands, the boy rushes to her and she lifts him onto the middle of the bed. He scoots by Aegon's side, his head against his father's shoulder, and the egg in the middle of them. Helaena blows out the candles in the rooms and comes behind Maelor, bringing a hand to his side as she settles herself against the boy's back. Helaena feels Aegon's hand trying to find a place to settle on their son's side in the darkness. She smiles, and closes her eyes.
-
When the sun rises, she feels as if the mattress is quacking. "Mama!" Maelor yells, so high-pitched she cringes in her place. "Papa!!" he yells even louder, jumping up and down their bed, almost bouncing on Aegon himself. "What..? Maely, sweet, a moment.." she says, the morning still tough on her. But then, she hears some kind of cracklings from behind her son. Her eyes shoot open and she rises to a sitting position. There is a slithering, pale tail coiled around her son's arm. "Mama!! Look at Eggy!" he yells as a small dragon shows its face; pale green with eyes of silverish-grey. The egg hatched? Maelor waited for this for so long. He always asked when it will, when Jaehaera and Jaehaerys went to see Morghul and Shrykos. A stone falls from her heart. She thanks the gods; it's been all too long. "Hey!" Aegon lurches up and awake when Maelor accidentally steps on him. "What are you doing twe-" Maelor shoves the baby dragon right in front of Aegon's face. Aegon nearly falls back in a sharp gasp when the snout of the small beast touches his nose. He catches himself, however, one hand against the bed and the other just inches from their son. The broken egg is between them all, as if the pieces are glimmering rocks on the bed, but Maelor giggles happily as he hugs his dragon. He smiles the widest when the sun from the window falls on him. "Papa, we hatched Eggy!" And Aegon breaks into laughter, himself, and odd smile she hasn't seen in a long time coming across his face. She starts laughing too, the corners of her lips rising naturally when Aegon takes Maelor into a hug. Some risks are worth taking. The hatchling chirps as happily as Maelor; perhaps by that, Aegon would understand some happiness is true, too.

tak is the main antagonist for this crossover fic im writing and due to the lack of canon content beyond literally that one episode and some of etf, sometimes i worry im not doing her any justice or it’s too ooc. what do you think would be the best way to write tak in your opinion? (if you happen to have any advice on the matter. just wondering! byeeee💃)
i'm genuinely so relieved at the specification of "in your opinion" because i have such a strange long-lasting attachment to tak that i think i would second-guess my thoughts on her in an objective vacuum to the point of just saying "she should be purple". but as it is i now have the freedom to go stupid crazy about it
i think there's a number of crucial elements to tak, but i think the one that people miss most in writing her is that she isn't just meant to be a more competent counterpart to zim - she's a direct parallel in terms of her ego, motivation, and backstory (the latter particularly as a result of treatment by irken society)
like zim, tak has an enormous ego and an audacity that places herself above anyone else, even the empire itself (see: her custom invader insignia. that's like drawing a crucifix but substituting yourself for jesus after being refused by the church), and like zim, in spite of her disregard for the empire's rulings she's striving for recognition both by it and within it (to quote her: "the plan i have in store for this nasty rock will so impress the tallest that they'll have no choice but to make me an invader"). the same way zim "quit being banished", tak "escaped" from the janitorial squad she was placed under as a stopgap job until the next elite test in seventy years
i've seen some people write her as tall, but in my opinion her being only very, very slightly taller than zim is not just a stylistic choice but an essential part of her character that draws her backstory together: technically that janitorial job wasn't even a punishment, it was just deemed the most suitable position for her in the absence of official imperial proof that she was capable of anything "better" or "higher" that would've been afforded to a taller more easily
that she made it so far in the elite course at all in spite of her height gives context and precedent to the competence and sheer refusal to admit defeat she exhibits in her attempt to destroy earth, a planet she initially believes is already undergoing an officially-sanctioned invasion judging from how bitterly she tells zim about what should've been "rightfully hers", down to specifically mentioning the great assigning - loops back to her audacity, in that she has zimlike degrees of ego regardless of how hard the circumstances logistically are aligned to stomp her back down (see again her quote where she confidently states her plan to hijack an official invasion will impress the tallest to the point they won't mind her flagrantly flaunting the rules). she would've spent so much of her life striving to meet her own exceedingly high expectations, not the exceedingly low ones assumed of someone her height, that this likely isn't far from her standard procedure of "show them i can do it better than the rules say"
what sets her apart from zim, i think, is in how much she's allowed herself to let those miserable expectations get to her and leave her pettier, more vindictive, less grandstanding speeches like zim than showing off everything she's capable of as often as possible, no matter how necessary (ALL the stupid parkour she does for no reason) - which i think is admittedly less her fault than partially being the result of her having actually experienced her confidence failing her when the entire future she'd set up for herself was pulled out from underneath her
unlike zim, who experiences failure regularly but never has it truly sink in, tak had the entirety of her progress wiped off the board in a single moment as a result of circumstances entirely beyond her control: i think a large part of the reason she resents zim so deeply and sincerely isn't solely because of the practical consequences of her missing her test (though it is in no way insignificant to it) but because he was the one who broke her streak - he was the one who made her brutally aware that no matter how she built herself up, no matter what proof she offered, she could still fail and be crushed into exactly the nobody she was expected to be
and she just cannot abide that, no matter what, because even if the memory of helplessness and humiliation will never go away (not that she'd acknowledge it wouldn't), if she can make him hurt the same way maybe that will give back to her some of the power and control over her life and her identity that she lost in losing her potential status as a real, sanctioned invader
also, i do think she should be purple. she seems to have a great attachment to aesthetics and individual style, given her custom pseudo-elite uniform (which we see her wearing even in training, on her test day), the fact she designed and programmed her hologram specifically to have the distinguishing marking of a beauty spot in the same place she has one on her actual face, and her penchant for making nearly every damn piece of her tech purple some way (minus mimi, who while being her own bootleg SIR unit still follows the same red color scheme as a functional one) - even the cockpit of the spittle runner she pilots is initially purple before it's ejected as an escape pod, and the magma pump's interior looks like this:

girl likes giving things her own little touches whether that's in terms of her trademark color, her near-blasphemous custom imperial logo, or her doing a tactical slide between bars of a railing instead of just stepping normally onto the floor

Revenge's consequence
Based off Granblue Fantasy Jamil SSR fate episode! I still love that fate episode very much 🥲
This took an extremely long time compared to my other pieces 🙈 I initially painted this maybe half a year ago in hopes of making it extra fancy? But it was so hefty I lost momentum... Progress shots below!
