Today the guys were filming a video with TFIL and Penelope was tagging along since she had nothing to do and they didn't want to leave her home alone.
"We're here today with Sam and Colby and their lovely friend Penelope. And we let you guys pick what we do today. What did you choose?" Elton asks the guys.
"We're gonna break into a mall." Colby tells him and they talk about it while Penelope looks up at the bum trying to figure out how she was going to get in there.
Climbing in wasn't so hard once Colby found a spot so Penny just followed him. Then the others climb on over. Walking around to find a way in they lose Penelope as she wanders off on her own.
"Where did Penny go?" Heath looks around.
"What?" Colby looks around confused, "How did we lose her?"
"Now we gotta backtrack." Elton groans.
As they walk around they find her walking towards them, "I found a way in." She lets them know.
"You just disappear on us." Colby speed walks towards her.
"I did. And being far from you guys I could still hear how loud y'all were being." She laughs leading the way.
"Can you even climb up there?" Elton asks her looking at the entrance she found.
"I was in gymnastics for thirteen years and they had us rock climb for fun during the summer at times. I can do it." She forces a smile as Colby climbs up then she goes second.
Walking to the center of the mall, Penelope realizes what mall they're actually in since she only knew it from the inside.
She gasps rushing to stand on the escalator, "Just me? Now, how's a blind man find his way into a place like this all on his own?" She says a line from her favorite TV show.
"What?" Sam says confused.
"Really? I have the season on repeat all the time because it's the best." She walks towards him.
"Teen Wolf. They filmed here for the mall fight scene where Penny was going to lose her shit if they really killed Derek." Colby tells him making Penelope smile.
"And this is why I love you." She pats his back, "You pay attention to me." She laughs.
They walk around more to explore more Penelope gets a text from Darwin saying it was an emergency so she tells him where she is so he can pick her up.
"Everything okay?" Colby sees her.
"Darwin said it's an emergency so I told him where we are." She sighs, "Umm, I'm gonna head back out. I'll be okay so don't worry."
"Are you sure?" He stops her from walking off, "Is it a serious emergency?"
"I don't know how serious but he said it's an emergency so..." She shrugs her shoulders.
"You're really gonna leave us?"
"Colby, my boyfriend needs me. And since that one little tiff, we haven't been as great as we once were. Plus we had another little one last month about you again. I apparently spend more time with you guys than my own boyfriend." She explains to him.
"You live with us of course you do." He laughs.
She just looks at him before leaving the group and heading back the way they came from. Getting out was a little difficult but she managed to do it alone. She waited a good five minutes before Darwin pulled up.
"What's the emergency?" She jumps up from sitting.
"My brother got in an accident and I need your help taking things to the hospital." He tells her.
"Okay." She gets in not understanding why she had to help. If it was super important to help him why waste time getting her.
Penelope knew something was slightly off when they got to his place and he was no longer rushing nor getting things together.
"I thought you needed my help?" She watches him in his kitchen.
"You passed the test." He smiles.
"Excuse me? I passed the test?" She repeats super confused.
"Yeah, if I don't ever text or call saying I have an emergency I'll know you'll drop what you're doing to help me. You passed the test." He kisses her cheek as he goes to the couch.
"So you lied? You made me leave what I was doing to test me?" She turns to face him.
"Yeah, it lets me know I'm important to you. You'll leave the guys for me."
She just stares at him looking for something to watch on TV and she starts to think about things, "How did you get there so fast?" She walks into his view.
"I was out and about." He lies to her.
"You still got there way too quickly. Were you stalking where my phone was at?" She pays attention to his body language.
"Ahead of time, yes. Just because if you did say yes I was there on time so you wouldn't have to wait outside too long."
"How long is ahead of time though, Darwin?" She raises her voice a bit.
"I don't fucking know. I saw where you were and I went towards you." He huffs then gets confused seeing her heading for the door. "What are you doing?" He watches her.
"Going home. I'll have Kat pick me up since you tricked me." She leaves his place calling Kat and she says she will be there as fast as she can.
When she does pick her up Kat takes her home and stays over with her to talk about why she called her to pick her up, "Wait, so it was just to test you?" Kat asks as they sit on Penny's bed.
"That's what he told me. He's like; you passed the test. So I told him to explain to me and he told me it was a way to let him know I'll drop what I'm doing to help him." She explains to her, "Should I mention he was stalking where I was."
"No! What the hell is wrong with him?" Kat shouts, "He doesn't like the guys right?"
"Well, he's okay with Sam it's Colby he has a problem with. But... I can't believe him." Penelope groans, "You know, he used to be so good. What the hell happened?"
"Some guys are just, ugh." Kat gives her a sad smile.
"Yeah, but you got lucky with Sam." Penelope rolls her eyes, "I've only ever dated two guys and they both suck. I actually really liked Darwin but now, I don't know. What do I do?" She whines.
"Okay, let's break everything down. Starting with the very first problem; you living with the guys." Kat pats Penny's leg, "Does he still think you should move?"
"Yes, he still tries to slide the tiniest hints but it's still noticeable."
"And the real problem deep down is because of how Colby is with you?" Kat asks so Penelope gives her a thumbs up. "And you and Colby have talked about it?"
"Yes, Kat. He understands he's a bit overprotective."
"A bit? Okay..." Kat giggles, "So he still has a problem with him?"
"Yes. When he came over to apologize for the first time, he said he thinks something happened between the two of us, because how we were acting odd."
"How were you acting odd?" Kat wants to get to the bottom.
"We each looked embarrassed. I know my reason but not his. We fell asleep watching a movie... I had a dream and then woke up to the door."
"What type of dream?" Kat watches her get embarrassed, "Penelope!" She shouts, "Do you have a crush on your best friend?"
"Would you shut up!" Penny covers her mouth, "What if they walked in quietly without us knowing. And no but yes at the same time. It's this little crush that just sits in the back of my mind and won't go away. BUT, nothing is ever going to happen." She explains as Kat smiles.
"What if secretly he likes you too and is scared or embarrassed to say it? What if he had the same dream as you? That's why he was embarrassed as well?"
"Impossible." Penny laughs.
"No, Penelope. Colby is way too protective of you for there not to be something there deep down. Hell, maybe he doesn't even know how he really feels?"
"Can we not? Colby is just my friend. He's my best friend. I don't want to lose him. He and Sam are the only guys in my life that I'm scared to lose because without them... I'm alone." Penelope tells her getting upset.
"What are you gonna do about Darwin?"
"I don't know. It just seems to get worse as time goes on." She hides her face into a pillow, "I want it to work but..."
"Colby would you please stop complaining for the love of god!" Sam shouts entering the apartment so the girls walk out. "Oh, hey Babe." Sam smiles.
"Penny asked me to pick her up." She tells him.
"Why? I thought Darwin had an emergency?" Colby rolls his eyes not trying to hide it.
"It was a test." Penelope rolls her eyes going back to her room while Kat explains to the two.
Kat ends up staying a little while to hang with Sam so Colby goes to Penelope's room to see her on her phone, "Am I interrupting you?" He whispers.
"No, you can come in. What up?" She sets her phone down.
"Kat explained everything after you came back in here." He enters her room shutting the door behind him.
"Do you think I should break up with him? Honestly." She sits up as he sits on the end of her bed, "You're my best friend and I want you to tell me how you feel about everything."
"You guys just have your moments but it's up to you not me. You make your own choices."
"Colby, I asked you to be honest with me. Stop lying to me right now. Forgot the whole, you need to mind your own business and back off some. I want the truth, please." She gets annoyed with him.
"Honestly, fuck him. He's becoming a dick and now stalking you when you aren't home. And truthfully I don't believe he trusts you deep down. He said he doesn't trust me but that means secretly he feels the same about you. If he doesn't trust me it means he thinks I can steal you from him. Guess what, it takes two to tango." Colby tells her, "I get that you guys were great before actually getting together but as soon as you guys did it started to have its problems. I don't want you to go through crap."
"I hate dating." She covers her face not wanting to cry.
Colby moves to sit next to her to hold her, "Hey, maybe the third time is the charm." He chuckles then stops letting out a sigh, "I know you really loved him."
"Who knows, I never said I love you to him." She tells him.
"I thought you guys say that?"
"No, I say love you and he said love ya so..." She looks at him.
"Maybe that's another sign for you." He gives her a sad smile, "I just hate seeing you like this."
"And I appreciate you really care." A tear falls.
"Of course, I love you and you don't deserve this shit." He wipes it away.
"I love you too." She hugs him happy she has him in her life.

I'm on a Lorraine Heath kick thanks to your recommendations so I'd love to know your Top Reads of hers!
Aaah I'm so glad! Lorraine is really so good. A true icon.
My chief favorites include...
Obviously, When the Duke Was Wicked, which feels stupid to say as I'm word vomiting about it right now, but in case someone is in my recs tag later, I love this book and I think it's probably one of the most well-executed romances I've ever read.
Waking Up with the Duke is one that I think has risen among Lorraine fans to be upheld as one of the best, and if I think about everything I've read by her... There's one thing that I think is, in terms of dating and the way we talk about romance, worth critiquing. But in terms of the quality of the love story, her prose, the plot, the EMOTION, it may be her best yeah. It's really moving and really angsty and it takes a truly bizarre plot and plays it so straight and gives you SO MUCH feeling. I just really love this book.
The Earl Takes All is Gorilla Twins, so you've kinda gotta read it, but it's also genuinely a great book. Like, the entire plot is incredibly wild lol, but the drama and twists are done so well. The way she does the REVEAL is not what I think anyone would expect when reading this novel. And it's so messy. God, I love it.
The Duke and The Lady in Red is another one I think we could discuss on some levels but damn did I love it. It's sooooo romantic, and Avendale is honestly a difficult hero because he's such an asshole beforehand, and he has a genuinely super rough backstory. This one made me cry, but I also found it very sexy and like, full of tension throughout because our hero and heroine do initially have a very transactional relationship that gradually becomes more genuinely emotional.
Between the Devil and Desire is one I'd argue could possibly rival Waking Up with the Duke for the crown, because it just hits every beat. A snappy, rough hero who doesn't seem to care about anyone; a chilly, bitchy (yet incredibly horny) widow who sees him as a threat on every level. One of the only children in romance who WORKS and that's because Jack Dodger is the ULTIMATE father who stepped up in romance, imo. Fabulous.
The Scoundrel in Her Bed is a recent favorite. It's second chance, it's extremely angsty, and it destroyed me emotionally. Like. This one probably made me cry the most out of any of the Lorraine books I've read because it just really luxuriated in how like. Sometimes love doesn't fix everything that's gone wrong because love isn't a time machine, but we can still move forward and so on and so on. Also, I'm a sucker for a second chance romance, especially one where they like, took each others' precious flowers and then got separated and are both now SUPER BITTER TBH.
Scoundrel of My Heart is another second chance one where it's like "what happened to us, what did we lose, can we get it back" (no but you can get something new!!!) and obviously I love that shit. It's also one of those second chance books where they were separated when they were just beginning, and they never got to have sex, and now they're back in each other's orbit and it is TENSE.

Heath’s Ultimate Horror Recs; A MASTERPOST.
We’ll start off with my letterboxd top four (in no true order)
1. The Thing (1982)
Tumblr media
First of all, it is unanimously agreed that the only way this movie could have been improved would be if Kurt Russel had worn a crop top that said “baby slut”. This movie has everything and is one of the (if not the original) Imposter movies. It takes place in the arctic, and is a little bit creature, gore, and psychological horror. It’s smart and it's fun! Not too scary, but a good time for sure.
2. Cabin in the Woods (2011)
Tumblr media
Please ignore that Joss Whedon made this as it is, unfortunately, INCREDIBLY fun. Like so much fucking fun. It’s a movie that completely deconstructs horror movie tropes, and I don’t mean that in a pretentious not-like-the-other-movies way. It literally deconstructs them, and has the most ridiculous half-twist at the end that really just ties it all together. If you like final girls, and every possible horror movie villain you could get your hands on, this is the movie for you. If you don’t already know the plot, go in blind.
3. Possession (1981)
Tumblr media
NOBODY, NOBODY, NOBODYYYYYYYY. This movie personifies what it feels like to have a Mitski-induced breakdown. I believe it was banned for a time in much of Europe upon release for going too hard. It’s not really like “demon on the ceiling. gotta call the exorcist” and more like “go stupid go crazy”. Gets More and More as it goes on. Bonus points for Sam Neill, an underrated horror guy. Foreign Film. 10/10.
4. Jennifer’s Body (2009)
Tumblr media
Literally ahead of its time. Girls kiss girls kiss boys kill boys kill girls. Yeah. I’m using the word- it’s camp TO ME. Again, not particularly scary (that’s what the next section is for) but it is very fun and also it is a romantic tragedy. I don’t know what else to say.
SUPER HONORABLE MENTIONS (that might be mentioned in later categories):
Nope (2022)
Candyman (1992)
Alien (1979)
Okay. Now the ones that really got me good (that are rec’able)
1. Hereditary
Tumblr media
Did I like the plot of this movie? No. Did I like this movie? No. Did I leave the theater wanting to crawl out of my skin and throw said skin into the trash with the popcorn? Yes. Rancid vibes, and for that it gets #1. Personally, it hit all my marks for going NOPE. -1000/10. (Really though, I thought the plot was dumb but my god was this movie the literal definition of horrific.)
2. The Descent (2005)
Tumblr media
I watched this movie at FAR too young of an age. I was like 8. My mom showed it to me because she thought it was cool. It made me scared of the dark for the next decade of my life. I’m a bit desensitized to horror at this point so I didn’t find it that scary upon rewatch. However, it’s my favorite combo of creature, proper build up, character-driven, and action-y. Also it’s a literal blood bath. :^)
3. 10 Cloverfield Lane (2016)
Tumblr media
This movie is not a classic horror, but it did fill me with immense dread and shock and it has a left a lasting impression on me. You are a girl who gets in a car crash and wakes up in a bunker with John Badman (?) and another guy and he’s telling you the world has ended outside and that if you were to leave you’d immediately die. Except there’s no way to know if he’s telling the truth. I remember my body physically hurting from the stress after watching this for the first time.
4. It (2017)
Tumblr media
I’m not above the clown movie. Listen, was it cosmically horrific? No! But it did have a bunch of good scares and it’s honestly one of my favorite ensemble cast movies to have ever been made. The sequel can die in a dumpster fire though. I still squirm in my seat for a few scenes even though I know Mr. Skarsgard is gonna pop out.
Conceptual Absolute Fuckin’ Bangers ( and/or amazing visuals)
1. A Quiet Place (2018)
Tumblr media
I held my breath the entire movie, and so did the rest of the theater because it pulls you in so well. Bawled my eyes out. Amazing story, and it keeps your nerves frayed the entire time.
2. Candyman (1992)
Tumblr media
My most favoritest slasher. Actually perhaps the only slasher I will recommend. Underhyped, a story less told and it just feels different in a nice way. It has everything, including the Looks.
3. Crimson Peak (2015)
Tumblr media
High drama, and arguably the prettiest visuals I’ve ever seen. Definitely a vibe-based movie and not for everyone. Guillermo Del Toro at his prettiest. I would read the content warnings though, because the plot is also not for everyone.
4. Queen of the Damned (2002)
Tumblr media
I’ll use the word again. Camp. This movie almost made me become a Vampire Person (notorious werewolf person). It’s ridiculous and bad but its also good and a vibe and everyone is very hot so what’s not to love.
5. Nope (2022)
Tumblr media
MY BABY MY BAAAAAAAAAABY MY BAAABBY MY BABBBYYY MY BABY. Zero criticism, it’s just not on my top four horror list because I don’t think it’s a horror. I think its a sci-fi suspense action mystery masterpiece with horror as an undertone. Literally best movie of the decade.
6. Re-Animator (1985)
Tumblr media
Cult classic. And a classic example of they made it so subtext gay that now its just text gay. Ridiculous. Body horror abound. 10/10.
7. Alien (1979)
Tumblr media
Can you say anything bad about this movie? No. It’s been awhile since I’ve seen it, but it’s very good. And of course the Face Huggers and Chest Bursters can never get enough of their dues for being icons.
8. The Ritual (2017)
Tumblr media
Please just trust me. If you like what Nope did with The Design, you might like this movie. Because ohhhh ohhhh The Design. The first two-thirds I quite enjoy, the last third loses me a bit but then I really like the last scene. But yeah. The Design. Also spooky and fun. And it’s on netflix! Nice!
Here for a fun time, not a smart or “good” time!
1. Pitch Black (2000)
Tumblr media
Yes, I am recc’ing a movie that stars Vin Diesel. I like Riddick. Die mad about it. But I also like this movie a lot! It’s bad in a 2000s sci-fi kinda way. But it commits to what it does and I like the characters. Shoot me. Nice blend of horror and action.
2. Tremors (1990)
Tumblr media
Heath Lore: for like four years in a row I made my friends watch this on my birthday. It’s so very dumb and also so very fun. And. Gay cowboys. Yeehaw. (There are two sequels made prior to like 2008, and I have also watched those. They are even more dumb.)
3. Poltergeist (1982)
Tumblr media
My mom also showed me this movie when I was about 6 or so. Traumatized me for life. I was a little bit paranoid about EVERYTHING. I’m re-watching for the first time in a long time this year, but honestly this movie goes so hard and for what. To be rated PG? That’s how my mom convinced me to watch it.
4. Brain Damage (1988)
Tumblr media
gonna be honest. went full monkey brain during this one. main character...sexy. this concludes my thought process. it’s very dumb and bad, and i would probably read the trigger warnings before you watch it.
5. The Evil Dead (franchise)
Tumblr media
So much happening, I would argue none of it “good”. Fun time.
6. The People Under the Stairs (1991)
Tumblr media
Spoiler alert: there are people under the stairs. A movie where I kept yelling WHAT?! W H A T?! Amazing. 10/10.
Modern Horror Gems (not Oscar Worthy)
1. The Conjuring (2013)
Tumblr media
I really like this movie. It’s not perfect and it’s not innovative, but I think it was well made and I think the scares are good. Also Ed and Lorraine Warren (movie versions, not the real people) are relationship goals for real.
2. Shutter Island (2010)
Tumblr media
There is definitely a lot happening in this movie. Psychological. Story driven. I did like it though.
3. Revenge (2017)
Tumblr media
Action, thriller, horror. Woman stuck with a group of bad men in the middle of the desert. Woman seeks Revenge with a capital R. French film, very violent.
Final category: Movies that make you go Huh?!
1. Titane (2021)
Tumblr media
Such a weird fucking movie. So fucking weird. So fucking weird. French film.
2. Eraserhead
Tumblr media
I discovered my love for brown noise through this movie and fell asleep within thirty minutes. I liked it quite a bit though, I think, when I finished it the next day.
OK THAT’S ALL FOR NOW. THANK YOU FOR READING <3

Pokemon Violet Thoughts
Pokemon Scarlet/Violet spoilers below!!
.
.
.
.
.
.
I did not expect to like this game as much as I did omg. I saw a lot of criticism, and while valid, the game is still very very very fun. (Tbf it'd be pretty hard to mess up a Pokemon game though!!)
Honestly, this might be one of my favorite storylines out of any Pokemon game? I've played through most of the Pokemon games (except Coliseum, Snap, Legends Arceus) + only got through half of SwSh and SuMo, but I know what happens in the Gen 7 and 8 storylines. BW/BW2's storyline was more consistent in terms of quality (SV has higher highs and lower lows imo), and Pokemon Mystery Dungeon is amazing too, but it follows predictable patterns and its main strength lies in its characterization rather than its actual plot. I haven't played Legends Arceus yet so that's still up in the air (though I hear it's good!)
I really enjoyed the reveal that the Professor Turo we knew was actually an AI, and exploring the Great Crater with our friends from school was so endearing and fun. The Great Crater itself looked incredible -- the design and the music really contributed to its otherworldly ambiance. Even reading the Violet Book made me really excited -- but then again, I've always been a sucker for stories of adventure. I would kill to have a Made in Abyss style anime of Heath's expedition into the Crater...
The characters in this game feel really alive, too -- Pokemon games have definitely stepped up their game in that regard. I liked Nemona the most (and how self-aware, yet incorrigible she is lol), and most of the teachers. ❤️
Miriam is such a sweetheart, and Hassel's sobbing whenever he was proud of us was so cute haha. Salvatore didn't speak to me as much, but I enjoyed his mini-storyline of befriending a Pokemon that didn't really speak, and him being completely understanding (as a languages teacher) that sometimes you don't need to speak the same language, or even a language to communicate with others around you. His entire character is such a vibe, too?? He's so happy and upbeat, and his advice about trying to learn the languages of places you go to and complimenting other people (especially their culture, food, etc.) is so real. Miriam being motivated by our dedication in the Treasure Hunt to pursue her own certification was sweet, I've definitely felt that way before as well (being motivated by the efforts of others, that is. ;o;)
Raifort I didn't connect to as much, but I appreciate her zealousness towards history. Her overall personality was pretty fun. xD I really really did enjoy the story about the ruinous treasure Pokemon, though -- one of my favorite (if not favorite) legendary Pokemon stories now. I've always loved fairytale-esque stories, and the designs of these Pokemon (especially Chien Pao and Chi Yu) are amazing. Their battle music is one of the best things I've ever listened to, so there's that too. xD
NPC designs have also stepped up (Grusha and Rika are so hot LOL), but player customization has taken a step back which was very disappointing to find out. And much as I loved Pokemon ScarVio overall, I do understand where a lot of the grievances people had came from.
I don't consider myself a genwunner (far from it lol) but many of the new Pokemon designs just felt... lacking? Like beta designs. Flamigo, Tandemaus, Palafin, Pawmot. Some of these are probably just personal preference so I won't harp on this too much, but eh.
Arven's storyline also didn't speak to me as much but that also just kind comes down to personal preference.
Something I also didn't like as much was the Team Star storyline -- it felt kind of contrived, and like it was really trying to make us feel bad for the area leaders. I also didn't care for Penny that much, although her interactions in the Great Crater area made up for it.
I would've rather we had a proper villainous team this generation instead of getting Team Star, but I guess then it would've been weird if the school let us run around the country lol.
Because run around the country we did... from top to bottom, for those f**king ominous stakes. They couldn't have made them show up on the map either (unless there's a function I missed. Which if that is the case let me live in ignorance aaaaaaaah I'll legit start foaming at the mouth if it turns out I just needed to turn something on). The idea of the stakes sealing these ruinous Pokemon's powers is alright, it's just annoying to have to scramble down cliffs and valleys to find 32 of these things.
As much as I do like the Great Crater part of the storyline, I wish it was more ingrained with everything else. The gym challenges, Team Star, the herba mystica... I mean, it was technically ingrained in the sense that you need to help your rivals out with their issues so they can accompany you into the crater, but there should've been more story significance tying everything together.
I also would've appreciated some sidequests in the Pokemon world. Coming from Genshin, I'm kind of spoiled in that regard (the world is soooo chock-full of events and quests and areas to explore). While Paldea doesn't really need that many quests and hidden areas (it's gotten to the point where exploration is kind of exhausting in Genshin lol), more would've been nice.
Environmental storytelling almost always hits, and it could've been a nice way to talk about the issues invasive species pose (basically our reason for shutting down the time machine) and in turn, connect things to the main storyline as well. For example, Barraskewda's Violet Pokedex entry mentions that it completes with Palafin for food -- what if Barraskewda wasn't native to Paldea, and just hitched a ride from Galar? We could have had a sidequest to curb the Barraskewda population to help the native Palafin population recover. That's just one example, too. What about the giant Iron Treads in the desert, or the rolling boulders dropped by Bombirdier? That things had to have caused some collateral damage, and it would have been cool to get quests to help the Pokemon or people in the area recover.
Paldea's open world was very beautiful and fun to explore, but it was also really... empty. I hope that in a future iteration of games, these kinds of sidequests can be added. The addition of them would really help make the world feel more alive.
And while I do really like ScarVio's story, its execution could have been a lot better than it was. But despite all the game's flaws, it was still incredibly fun ,and surprisingly touching. :') I am very extremely excited for the eventual DLC that will hopefully give us a glimpse of that hexagonal Pokemon, and more story content of the main four. 🥺🥺🥺

The Viscount and the Vixen: Book Review
It feels good to have a series completed, and it feels just as good to be reading historical romances again, not that I had given them up or anything, but I'd just been reading or watching other things in meantime.
This series as a whole was fun, so let's get right to my thoughts, feelings, and rambles on...
Tumblr media
Love begets madness. Viscount Locksley watched it happen to his father after his cherished wife’s death. But when his sire arranges to marry flame-haired fortune hunter Portia Gadstone, Locke is compelled to take drastic measures to stop the stunning beauty from taking advantage of the marquess. A marriage of mutual pleasure could be convenient, indeed . . . as long as inconvenient feelings don’t interfere.
Desperation forced Portia to agree to marry a madman. The arrangement will offer the protection she needs. Or so she believes until the marquess’s distractingly handsome son peruses the fine print . . .and takes his father’s place!
Now the sedate—and, more importantly, secure—union Portia planned has been tossed in favor of one simmering with wicked temptation and potential heartbreak. Because as she begins to fall for her devilishly seductive husband, her dark secrets surface and threaten to ruin them both—unless Locke is willing to risk all and open his heart to love.
______________________________________________________
At last we've made it to the final Hellion novel, and I have to say I enjoyed it quite a bit. Heath is great at stringing along secrets, some that are obvious to the reader, but you still find yourself feeling trepidation at the thought of everything being revealed even though you know a happily ever after will soon come in the end.
This novel held one of my favorite tropes, and while that was enjoyable, I did still find some issues with this one. Nothing too major, and it was still a fun read, but one point is that I think there was just too much sex in this one. The characters have an immediate sexual attraction to one another, even if they both convince themselves that there is a dislike as well. I honestly could have done with a few less sex scenes, or even just scenes that sort of faded to black. It wasn't as if they weren't well written, it was just that they got a little old to read through after awhile...
Aside from that, I thought the characters were enjoyable. I feel like Locke felt a little different in the other books, as if he was a bit more reserved and intelligent and not quite as uh...feral as he was in this one. Then again, he's meant to be one of the Hellions too, so there is that. He wasn't unlikable, by any means, but I just wish more of his previous personality had peeked through a little more.
Portia was a lovely character to get to know, and I can't fault her for the steps that she took to ensure her safety. I understand the hurt that Locke felt over her dishonesty, but I still wish we had gotten more groveling on his part. Yes, the couple has forgiven one another by the end, but we need more groveling from heroes in my opinion.
I do like Heath's use of unconventional circumstances. This is actually my first mistress romance, and I understand there are plenty more of them out there, but I just haven't ventured to that particular trope yet. I like how this one was portrayed, and once again we have a man fathering a child that is not really his own by blood, which I enjoyed as well. I almost wish she would have made this one a boy though, since conveniently, in the last book, that child was a girl too. But I get it, she wants her heroes to have heirs that are truly there's, but I think there's a lot to be said about adopted heirs, and oh what drama that would bring in a future book!
There's a small snippet that reveals the antagonist of the story might have really held some strong feelings for Portia, which I found interesting. I'm not sure if he has a book of his own, and if he does, I'm not sure how I would feel about reading it. Then again, I happily read and reread St. Vincent's story in Devil in Winter, so maybe there wouldn't be much of a difference!
So there ya have it. I suppose if I were to rank the books, it would go 2, 3, then 1. I'm not sure why the first book in a series never usually ends up being my favorite, but it is what is!

That’s it. I can’t go further anymore. I hate Cobalion so much. The 30th win streak was against Cobalion, and it was a team effort too. Since I don’t make a draft of team compositions prior to this gauntlet like I usually do, all of this team are made right before the fights.
Anyway, here are the teams, putting this at readmore because it sure as hell gonna be long.
Team 1: Cobalion
Tumblr media
Just Anni N carried stuff as usual, no big deal. I wish Dawn was EX, but I really haven’t seen any point to EX her yet. A shame, because she’s still my most favorite female protagonist.
Team 2: Azelf
Tumblr media
Brute-forcing things still work if you’re as powerful as SC Emmet, I suppose. Oh, and if you’re accompanied with an amazing support like Aaron. Very smooth, very self-explanatory.
Team 3: Latios
Tumblr media
BP Zinnia remains awesome. In hindsight, I probably shouldn’t have used Spring Burgh here, but oh well. Once again, very smooth, and I prefer using BP Zinnia as DPS.
Team 4: Cobalion
Tumblr media
The tried-and-true Halloween Morty team. Nothing feels more satisfactory than defeating a difficult LA stage with my favorite, non-OP unit. Oh yeah, also Masked Royal got to 3/5 just 2 days ago. If Dawn had been EX, she would have been here instead, and Masked Royal would have been saved up somewhere. Oh well. More reason to EX Dawn, I think? Oh yes, one condition to this team is that, since Cobalion gained resistances from Burn much quicker than Paralysis/Sleep, Halloween Morty had to crit all of his syncs so Cobalion wouldn’t gain too much burn resistances to the point it become immune. Which requires luck, but it’s okay. This team did it first try.
Team 5: Azelf
Tumblr media
I remembered, very fondly, when Elio was still 2/5 and struggled so hard to survive against Azelf, and I didn’t even use Lillie because she’s also 2/5, so I went with BP Morty for flinching and to make Lusamine survive at least one sync. Now, Elio and Lillie are 5/5, and I just copy-pasted this team from Crystal. I also slapped Troublemaker 1 at Elio instead of Vigilance, and that’s gonna be his lucky skill from now on. I still don’t like using Lusamine because she’s squishier than Giovanni, but with Elio’s Sing and Lillie’s accuracy buffs alongside her random debuffs, the fight ended without anybody taking a single hit.
Team 6: Latios
Tumblr media
I tried. I tried my best to use OG Zinnia, but she still remained...difficult as ever. Well, at least Fresh Start helped to negate the downsides of her trainer move, but Latios spammed AoE moves and debuffed too in second and third health bar, so this fight was actually rather difficult. Sabrina wasn’t the best tank in this scenario, at all. She was taken down from Stored Power too, but thankfully Zinnia could muster enough strength to end the match. Sandstorm was only used at first health bar to take down sides with Zinnia’s sync, and at third health bar.
Team 7: Cobalion
Tumblr media
Nobody could survive the repeated Sacred Sword from Cobalion, it hit goddamn hard. Even Skyla went down. Maybe she could have survived if I brought an attack debuffer or something, but that couldn’t fit the team. SS Serena was meant to handle difficult fights like Cobalion or Azelf because I knew Latios was gonna be such a cakewalk with her. Tech Parasect was for applying paralysis and...some defense debuffs, I guess. Well, more excuse to use Thousand Waves, even though I didn’t use my Ground build here.
Team 8: Azelf
Tumblr media
So, this is kinda unnecessary, and probably a bit overkill, but this team’s synergy is pretty good. Summer Marnie didn’t need to use her trainer move because Sycamore provided all the buffs she needed for Rising Tide, and this team also covered all of Azelf’s resistances. When Azelf was resistant with physical damage, Summer Marnie could either use Spirit Break to debuff special attack, or use Crunch in attempt to debuff defense, while Sycamore spammed Moonblast. At latter half of the heath bar, Summer Marnie handled everything, and Sycamore used Horn Leech to restore health--if that happened, because usually Summer Marnie’s nuke was enough to deplete a health bar. In retrospect, I probably should have brought Palentine’s Dawn here instead of using Tech Exeggutor because this team didn’t need sleep chain to survive. Oh well. What’s done is done.
Team 9: Latios
Tumblr media
I went a bit too much on this. They destroyed Latios, but I probably should have saved up Sidney somewhere. Well, it’s satisfying to see the amazing synergy of dark-type teams, at least.
Team 10: Cobalion
Tumblr media
Piercing Blows team, you know the drill. Hilbert somewhat survived the Sacred Sword, only to be taken down by a second Sacred Sword, which is amazing. Then again, Volkner’s paralysis and flinches helped to buy some time for this team to survive.
Team 11: Azelf
Tumblr media
Did you know that SS Misty dealt 99k damage at Azelf’s third bar? I know Azelf’s defenses there were reduced to ashes, but I knew Azelf had some resistances in sync moves too. Still, it was impressive nonetheless to see SS Misty’s nuke despite the resistance. I brought Serena there because...Azelf’s nuke is physical, which targeted SS Kris’ weaker physical defense, and I’m kinda afraid that SS Kris would be endangered. Maybe I should have saved up Serena for later. Anyway, SS Misty needed +6 Sp. Atk and +3 crit, but SS Kris could provide that, and Rain too. This was a lot of fun. It’s honestly weird why I had some difficulties in using Lear but not with SS Misty.
Team 12: Latios
Tumblr media
THAT WAS SO GODDAMN CLOSE!! Had Rachel not used her trainer move on Cyrus, he would have lost. Phoebe couldn’t survive very long, and neither could Rachel. That last half of third HP bar was handled by Cyrus himself, hanging on 1 HP. It was disastrous. Maybe if Phoebe were EX, she could have performed much better. Rachel...I’m not sure. I wish she and Sawyer got EX so they could tank much better...
Team 13: Cobalion
Tumblr media
Much like Anni N’s Blue Flare’s damage looking like it dropped without multiple targets, so did SST Red’s B Volt Tackle. This match took a little too long for my liking, but at least nobody was ever in danger. BP Morty took some Sacred Sword, but he had enough potions to sustain himself. And...not gonna lie, 2 Electric Terrain wasn’t enough for SST Red to finish the match, so he had to ask Classic Elesa’s help. I like their synergy anyway. SST Red definitely could have benefited much better if he’s accompanied with EX Support like Halloween Caitlin, but it’s fine. The match took forever but it’s done with nobody in danger.
Team 14: Azelf
Tumblr media
Time to test the newly EX Barry--with Vigilance as lucky skill! That...was because Barry was the one I used to tank Sinnoh’s Daily Region Rotation before I had OG Dawn (I just got one copy of her during Sinnoh’s Villain Arc), but when Entei’s gauntlet came up, the Vigilance on him ended up helping a lot, so I just keep it until now. Barry’s bulk as a striker is also pretty good, much like EX Siebold, and their playstyle was quite similar, though Barry is better at off-typing than Siebold. Anyway, talking about the actual fight, Barry was actually at a timer here. Tech Gyarados had to consistently land flinches to stagger Azelf, and Barry had to nuke Azelf before SC Jasmine get destroyed by its sync. I know I might be exaggerating, but Azelf’s nuke kinda hurt, so I was very much worried, much like what I felt towards SS Kris. Thankfully, Tech Gyarados could land a lot of flinches to buy some time for Barry to unleash his nuke. His nuke was pretty good even without Cakewalk. He could nuke Azelf’s health bar in one sync, that’s pretty something. Also, Barry’s EX color looks pretty cool and I love it. Definitely worth the investment.
Team 15: Latios
Tumblr media
Roxanne is now retired from the Giovanni steamroll team, and Mesprit became the tank. Matching theme skills, more defensive utilities, and the fact that Mesprit almost didn’t need gauge at all to use moves, is pretty good. Reflect and Light Screen helped to mitigate the damage in third health bar too. I like dual screens. Anyway, pretty easy fight, Mesprit is amazing. Probably the best Master BP units so far.
Team 16: Cobalion
Tumblr media
I’m so sorry Brendan that you had to handle the menace that is Cobalion, who targeted your weaker physical defense. Roxanne’s defensive buffs didn’t help him against Sacred Sword, so SS Brendan had to spam potions to keep himself alive. Thankfully, Palentine Serena was there to use paralysis, and landed really good nuke. Palentine Serena finally became better after her EX. Granted, she still needed a lot of support--namely special attack, crit, and speed, hence the team composition--but once it’s handled, she’s pretty good. I’m thinking if I should 3/5 her sometime or if 2/5 is just enough...
Team 17: Azelf
Tumblr media
I know Classic Giovanni had less HP than Falkner and Hilbert, but similar defensive stats with Falkner, but sleepchain can negate any need of proper tank...if only I didn’t forget to give Lodge N Troublemaker 1. Oh well. Classic Giovanni went down at third health bar, but at that time, Lucian was ready to launch a nuke. The idea here was Giovanni covering all the offensive buffs that Lucian needed, while Lucian spammed Growl and top off his Sp. Atk. Lodge N did some sleepchain stuffs. After that, stall the turns until Lucian’s nuke is ready, because his nuke is powerful enough to take down Azelf’s one health bar, and with max damage at third health bar too. Just Lucian asserting his nuke dominance as always.
Team 18: Latios
Tumblr media
It is finally time to use Hala! No gauge issues because Kiawe alleviated that with Dashing Team and Evelyn also helped with Regeneration. God, seeing Hala nuking the entire third health bar with his sync felt really good, and even off-type his DPS was still amazing. Sorry, Winter Leon. I know Hala arrived much later than you, but until you reach 3/5, I’ll have to use Hala more often now. I remembered last gauntlet Kiawe had a little bit of trouble in surviving Latios because he wasn’t EX, but now he didn’t even need Potions at all. That EX really meant a lot for him.
Team 19: Cobalion
Tumblr media
This, and the Tornadus gauntlet, is the reason why I MUST 2/5 Classic Red, because good god, never rely on 30% chance, ever. This took way too damn long, and that’s because Classic Red didn’t proc the paralysis even after accumulating 10 damn sync buffs. Leaf did a great job for taking a lot of Sacred Sword and landing flinches, but she eventually went down because the Sacred Sword dealt like 1.075 damage. By that time, Cobalion was at 20% health, and I just decided to brute-force it instead of waiting for paralysis that’d never happen. Gladion did an amazing job here, though. Kudos for Gladion for managing to bruteforce Cobalion’s last remaining health without paralysis.
Team 20: Azelf
Tumblr media
This took two tries, because I attempted to do Azelf’s fight without sleepchain, but I’m running out of support who can handle Azelf’s debuff pressure. So I used Agatha to sleepchain and thankfully SS Steven could handle the rest. It’s just...my god, the gauge of this team is horrendous. I had to use Agatha’s trainer move, and that still wasn’t enough. Bianca ended up not doing much at most of the fight--she could even barely queue Psychic Terrain. I realized that Attack Form Deoxys was not fast enough to carry a gauge. He still needed more speed support. Well, somehow this team prevailed anyway, but it really could have been better.
Team 21: Latios
Tumblr media
Yeah, this was unbelievably easy. Bea was too damn powerful. I don’t have anything to say much here, Bea is so good. Maybe I should EX Sonia...if I EX her maybe her other two copies would be willing to appear anytime soon...
Team 22: Cobalion
Tumblr media
Cobalion versus Cobalion!...though opponent Cobalion proved that it was the better Cobalion, since my Cobalion went down because of Sacred Sword. Gauge was also a bit difficult once Cobalion’s move gauge acceleration ran out, and Cobalion’s debuffs didn’t really benefit SS Red in any way (except for Flare Blitz I guess), but the defensive buffs helped to mitigate SS Red’s self debuffs. When my Cobalion went down, Lt. Surge thankfully could survive long enough for SS Red to finish the fight, thanks to First Aid and repeated Synchro Healing. I wish SS Red was 3/5 so his nuke could hit harder with Haymaker, especially with this team composition...
Team 23: Azelf
Tumblr media
I thought this team would run to gauge issues, but thankfully Cheryl’s X Sp. Atk MPR proc enough for a few Pep Rally to keep the gauge going. Palentine Dawn’s debuffs and Cheryl’s heals really helped Cheryl to survive the occasional physical attack that Azelf used (like Zen Headbutt). Lear was also in timer here--he had to nuke fast before Azelf sync and destroyed Cheryl. Luckily, fast sync is Lear’s specialty. Azelf queued an Iron Tail right before Lear’s nuke took it down...which was rather close. I dunno if Cheryl could have handled that, but it seemed risky.
Team 24: Latios
Tumblr media
I know, I know OG Morty could solo Latios, but Phantom Force MPR always betrayed me, and my timing is horrible. I don’t want to rip my hair out trying to figure the correct timing and to reset for Phantom Force MPR, so I just picked an easy option. I forgot to grid Lodge Blue here, he could have performed better if I gridded him but, oh well. OG Morty magically proc-ed a lot of his trainer move, so he capped his Blind Spot multiplier all by himself, and handled Latios comfortably, while also sometimes dodged some attacks. OG Morty is still difficult to use, but he’s still fun to use.
Team 25: Cobalion
Tumblr media
This is a modified team from Zinfogel’s gauntlet tutorial. I remembered clearly what Zinfogel said: “Because Cobalion gained burn immunity pretty quick, you need an auxiliary status” and he used BP Clemont gridded with Hostile Environment 1 Spark, so a pretty good chance of paralyzing. BP Clemont’s Screech also helped Silver’s damage. Hop unfortunately couldn’t take too much Sacred Sword either--he went down, but thankfully the fight was close to done. I forego Silver’s nuke and decided to go full DPS here, and it’s honestly the safest way to play Silver without SS Morty against Cobalion.
Team 26: Azelf
Tumblr media
I remembered that Classic Blue has both physical and special moves, so time to use it with full advantage! Granted, his damage wasn’t much, but it’s still sufficient to handle Azelf. SS Morty and Sawyer helped to top off Classic Blue’s buffs so he didn’t need to use his trainer move too much. Also, Sawyer’s flinches really helped as well so SS Morty didn’t get debuffed too much. I gridded him with Sunny Disposition, but MPR on Sunny Day didn’t happen too much. SS Morty surviving sun-boosted Flamethrower from Azelf was pretty amazing. I mean, I know he’s immortal, and if he could take a sun-boosted +2 Sp. Atk Fire Blast from Flint without EX, he definitely could handle Azelf’s sun-boosted Flamethrower. I love SS Morty so much. Also I probably should 5* Sawyer soon, he’s very reliable and he’d appreciate the extra bulk.
Team 27: Latios
Tumblr media
I unironically had to use SS Grimsley’s trainer move here because this support team is very defensive, but I gridded him with First Aid so it’s all good, and Misty’s Friendly Care was enough to patch up the damage. Misty also covered Brock with some special defense buffs to help him tank better, while SS Grimsley just went to do his thing. It’s actually pretty smooth, I’m rather surprised that this team didn’t run into any gauge issues either. Every time I expected a team to run into gauge issues, it doesn’t happen. But when I thought a team would be fine, it ran into gauge issues. What even.
Team 28: Latios
Tumblr media
SC Lillie was the last support that could be a frontline tank for gauntlets (not including SS Elesa because she couldn’t sustain herself well enough for a long fight), so time to use her. I slapped BP Janine so I could save up SC Lillie’s trainer move for regeneration. Wally is gridded with full Focus Blast DPS here, which dealt pretty good damage. I’m glad I can use my boy in a gauntlet.
Team 29: Azelf
Tumblr media
...Except I just remembered, SC Lillie wasn’t the last support that could sustain for Gauntlet. There’s OG Ingo. But the current gauntlet stages weren’t good for OG Emmet, so I decided to use OG Ingo as a generalist support instead for Mallow, who just got to 2/5 and finally had access to Pecking Order. OG Ingo set up Sandstorm to buff the team’s speed, since this team would be relying on Ramos’ sleepchain who wasn’t the fastest sleepchainer. The turn order was following Zinfogel’s gauntlet tutorial, where he used Kahili as a tank. The queue order should be: Sleep Powder > Mud Slap > Teeter Dance/Trop Kick > wait for Mud Slap’s damage to disappear then use Sleep Powder > repeat. If I accidentally queued Sleep Powder a little too soon, immediately quad-queue Sleep Powder. Though, if the quad-queue didn’t work, OG Ingo could take some hits and had potions. This team took three attempts, because Azelf kept burning OG Ingo, which hurt his survivability a lot. OG Ingo shouldn’t be burned or else the sleepchain method didn’t work because OG Ingo had to stop moving to survive. This was a good opportunity to train myself to properly sleepchain.
Team 30: Cobalion
For this clear, I had to use two teams. Here’s the first team for the 30th win streak:
Tumblr media
God, I still had no idea how to use Piers. His Obstruct is good in LA where enemies’ moves are predictable, and I used his Obstruct to block Stone Edge and Poison Jab. The debuffs he inflicted upon blocking were also helpful for Solgaleo to deal good damage, but even with double Obstruct MPR, it still wasn’t enough. I was hoping he’d have infinite Obstruct supply so he could lasts until third bar and blocked Sacred Sword, but guess that didn’t happen. Once Obstruct is out, Piers had to endure-tanking with his trainer move, for as long as MPR allowed him to, which was at the end of second health bar. Lana couldn’t take too much Stone Edge, so she didn’t main tank, but even she couldn’t take too much Sacred Sword. Solgaleo managed to bring Cobalion down to 23% health before going down. It was really close, so I didn’t reset and just take the loss for the second team.
Tumblr media
This is...a desperation team. The idea is to make Acerola stagger Cobalion long enough for Blue to finish his buffs and sync nuke the shit out of Cobalion before Cobalion used his sync (it was at one turn before sync when Solgaleo went down). Erika was there to apply paralysis and land lucky special defense debuffs. Acerola managed to land two lucky flinches to let Blue sync, but unfortunately Blue’s sync damage didn’t crit, so Cobalion still had like 4% health left. Acerola’s flinch didn’t land, and she went down because of Facade, but Blue accumulated enough gauge to finally unleash a Hyper Beam and finished the fight. God, that was awful. Had Blue not accumulated enough gauge at that time to use Hyper Beam, Cobalion would have queued his sync and wiped the party. I hate Cobalion so much, but I’m glad that this team miraculously made it somehow.

My Top 10
This list is incredibly biased by my childhood preferences and how sentimental these things are to me. I don’t want anyone to think that I am an overgrown child. I hold things that have a sentimental value to me at a higher regard than what’s “objectively” better. Production quality, budget, date of release are things that never matter when you make something that means something to someone.
However this list is not ordered in terms of what’s my favorite because I can never pick one favorite media out of everything that’s out there.
Number 10 - Tamako Love Story
This is one of my favorite animes I watched during quarantine. I was always drawn to love stories. This movie is beautifully animated and has a very nice story and conclusion to the story introduced in the show that came before Tamako Market.
The Official Trailer That Aired in Japan
Number 9 - The Breakfast Club
I really love this movie even though it does have it’s questionable parts, some jokes that wouldn’t be considered okay today. Regardless this movie really does mean something to me because it was one of the movies I watched before I moved to the US that introduced me to how high school was going to be. Of course that was not the case for me at all but it did help me dream and hope for a better school experience than the one I had in Turkey.
The Original 1985 Trailer
Number 8 - Jujutsu Kaisen
This anime is also one of my favorites because i watched it during quarantine. But it means more to me because I was in an online community that talked about the show every week a new episode came out. I would be waiting for a new episode to air so I could go online and talk about it. I made a lot of friends that way, people my age, and I really liked hearing other people’s opinions. It made the show more meaningful and real to me.
Jujutsu Kaisen Opening Theme Song
Number 7 - Carry On
This is one of my favorite books. I loved reading it, it was tense, full of lore, and had great characters and one of the best and worst endings I’ve ever seen. I think it’s one of the only books I finished in one sitting. It was 530 pages long.
A Really Cool Fanmade Trailer That’s Sadly In Spanish
Number 6 - 10 Things I Hate About You
Again this is one of the movies that I watched and believed the US to be like. I idolized this movie, thinking the exact same thing would happen to me. It didn’t but watching this movie always makes me feel better, no matter how much I’ve memorized it up until now. I also love the actors in it, Heath Ledger, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and Julia Stiles.
The Original 1999 Trailer
Number 5 - Markiplier
Unlike the other things on this list, Markiplier is a real person, who’s my favorite Youtuber ever. I watched him alongside Jacksepticeye when I was small, from age 9 and so on. I never stopped watching him, even after seeing how he changed throughout the last 9 years, I still enjoy his content a lot. And if I ever do stop watching him, I will have so much respect for him for being such a great person and content creator.
His Latest Theatrical Movie Trailer
Number 4 - Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse
This movie is one of my favorite animated movies of all time. The animation is incredible, after watching videos about the process of making this movie I was so impressed. The artstyle and the color palette makes it so fun to watch. The voice acting is so good. Not to mention I have always been a Spider-Man fan, more specifically Miles Morales fan after having read the book about him.
Official 2018 Trailer
Number 3 - Persona 5
Persona 5 is a Japanese RPG game that is about a group of Japanese high schoolers who fight demons at night. It’s very anime-like. The game itself takes about 100 hours to complete. It took a very very long time to come out, because of Atlus’ perfectionism. Because it had mature themes I couldn’t play it when I wanted to, in seventh grade. Therefore I watched a youtube playthrough. That whole year I would watch it whenever I could. I loved the characters and the story. And I loved going online and seeing art that was made by fans about the game.
Official Trailer
Number 2 - Life Is Strange
Life Is Strange is my favorite game of all time. If I wasn’t so sentimental about it, it wouldn’t even be on this list. This game came out a day before my 10th birthday. I begged my parents to let me buy it after seeing the trailer. And I played the first part of the game a million times. The art style, music, voice acting, and the heart of this game is so amazing. Especially the music and the visuals, it’s basically a visual dessert. It has gotten its criticisms over the years and I understand and agree with them completely but it still makes me so so happy that I can never imagine ever forgetting it.
Official Trailer
Number 1 - 6Teen
6teen is number one on this list because unlike everything else on here, I have been actively watching this show in the last few weeks. It helped a lot as background noise when I did homework but still is so fun to watch. I first watched this show in my junior year and I have loved and rewtached it so many times since then. The show has so much heart and has such realistic characters that it’s scary. It makes me sad now how I never experienced being sixteen the same way they did but at least watching the show helped me feel that.

No One Likes Being Hurt (Tobin Heath x Reader)
Tumblr media
Request
A/N: I am so sorry this took so long, I love Tobin. I love the Anon who requested this. I loved writing this. And I am very disappointed in the person who wrote this... aka me. And none of this is probably accurate. And heads up this will be focusing on her ankle injury, not the knee.
As usual sorry for any mistakes, please enjoy.
Y/n cringed as she saw Tobin return home with a boot issued by the hospital, her heart ached knowing how much this would hurt Tobin not only physically but mentally.
“Hey, babe.” Y/n tried to make things a little normal, walking over to her girlfriend.
Tobin gave one of the smallest smiles Y/n had probably ever seen if it were to even count as one.
Y/n stood there feeling slightly awkward and used a small and soft voice, “If your hungry I could order something or-”
“No, it’s cool, I think I’m just going to crash tonight.” Tobin brushed off Y/n not feeling in the mood to be around anyone right now.
“Yeah okay, I’ll ah... I’ll, um sorry I let you be then.” Y/n walked away to really anywhere else the apartment had to offer other than the bedroom Tobin was heading to and where she was.
The distant sound of the limp in Tobin’s step that the boot created was very audible but Y/n tried not to pay attention to it. Y/n waited and listened to hear Tobin go into the other room.
Y/n stood and thought for a few moments; she thought about how this might affect Tobin, maybe their relationship, everything.
It wasn’t life-threatening or career-ending by any means, Tobin was a badass and Y/n knew that she would recover, Y/n just hated seeing Tobin have to sit on the bench watching others play.
She broke herself out of thought, wanting to leave the thoughts in her head that weren’t helping with the situation at all. Walking to the bedroom, hesitantly.
-----
Y/n went on a morning run and got stuck in her head thinking about ways she could cheer up Tobin.
“Maybe some video games. Getting her favorites. If she gets cold I’ll put a blanket in the dryer, maybe offer my hoodie in the meantime. Got to keep her away from soccer though.”
In all honesty, Y/n didn’t expect Tobin to come back to America for part of her recovery but she wasn’t complaining.
Y/n stayed in her head as she walked back into the apartment, only somewhat expecting Tobin to be awake right now. Not seeing Heath, Y/n went to the kitchen and started making some tea.
The aroma was almost foreign to her because Y/n never made it while Tobin was in Manchester.
Y/n waited for the kettle to start whistling, taking it off of the burner. Adding the tea bag to a mug. Y/n carefully walked to the bedroom with the drink in hand.
Y/n entered with as little noise as possible, navigating with little light.
Setting the mug down quietly on the nightstand, Y/n looked over at Tobin.
Y/n brushed Tobin’s hair out of her face, the painkillers probably still have her knocked out. “Love you, babe. Promise I’ll be home from work as soon as possible.”
Y/n kissed her forehead before heading off to work.
-----
Tobin woke up with a surprisingly high awareness of her surroundings, almost ripping the sheets that covered her foot.
Tobin didn’t know what she was expecting when she saw the elevated foot having a boot on it.
Maybe she hoped that it was all a bad dream.
Maybe months would have flown by and she’d be healed and ready for her first game back.
Tobin took a deep breath collecting herself, slowly laying back down, noticing a sweet familiar smell.
Looking over at where Y/n would normally lay, Heath just saw empty space. Then turning to the nightstand she noticed a mug. Sitting up a little bit, while annoyed she had to keep her foot elevated.
Tobin took the mug in her hands, smelling it. Heath still felt that the mug was warm as well, taking a sip of the beverage inside.
Focusing on the drink Tobin almost didn’t catch the little ping her phone did when it got a notification.
Tobin already knew that it would be someone worrying about her or wishing her well so she didn’t even bother looking at it.
Suddenly losing interest in finishing the tea, Tobin used one of her crutches to hobble to the kitchen, putting it into the sink.
Tobin looked at the time, noting she needed to take her painkillers soon. Tobin moved to the couch, opting not to turn on the television, but the longer she sat there the heavier her eyelids got.
Until everything went black.
-----
Y/n opened the door to the apartment as quietly as possible, hoping not to disturb her girlfriend in any way.
Walking to the living area, Y/n saw Tobin passed out on the couch. Y/n let out a sigh of relief when she also saw Tobin’s foot elevated by the coffee table.
Y/n knelt down next to the couch, gently grabbing Tobin’s hand and kissing it. Y/n observed Tobin as her eyes fluttered open.
“Hey babe, how are you?” Y/n whispered, noting how there was almost no other noises in the apartment, thinking Tobin might have a headache.
Tobin rasped out, “Can you get my painkillers, please?”
Y/n tried not to look worried when Tobin said that and instead said, “Yeah, of course.” Y/n got up, heading to the medicine cabinet in the bathroom, also grabbing some water to help the pills go down.
Wordlessly, Y/n handed Tobin the pills and water. After swallowing them, Tobin handed the glass back, mustering up a small, “Thanks.”
“No problem, I’m going to start diner probably, any requests?” Y/n tried to lighten the mood, but it fell flat.
“Anything is fine.”
Y/n nodded her head, saying, “Okay.”
Going to the kitchen Y/n looked in the cabinets, seeing what could be made quickly and not require a trip to the grocery store.
-----
After cooking Y/n walked to the couch, handing Tobin a plate of food, walking back to the kitchen to get her own.
Y/n walked back, happy to see Tobin taking small bites, but at least it was something. Y/n played with the food a little less concerned about eating, and more concerned about Tobin.
Glancing over at her girlfriend again she saw Tobin asleep, the empty plate barely in her grip.
Y/n put the plate she had on the coffee table quickly moving to grab Tobin’s. Y/n let out a sigh of relief when there was nothing that could break and wake Tobin up.
Y/n looked at Tobin, observing her again. More at peace then she would ever be if she were awake, right now.
Carefully scooping up Tobin, Y/n walked over to the bedroom and put Tobin on her side of the bed. Y/n made sure to elevate Tobin’s foot before pulling the blanket over her.
Y/n kissed Tobin’s forehead, before leaving her alone in the bedroom, going back to the living room to take care of the dishes.
Grabbing the plates, putting them in the sink and turning on the water, Y/n was left alone with a lot of thoughts to process.
Something Y/n tended to put off until she couldn’t.
Mindlessly cleaning and moving, Y/n was on autopilot until she reached for another thing to clean and there simply wasn’t one.
Y/n dried off her hands, turning off the lights, she was about to get ready for bed when she saw something on the couch. Y/n facepalmed herself, for forgetting to make sure Tobin had her crutches with her.
Y/n grabbed the crutch, turned off the light and headed to bed.
-----
The heavy wind and sleet had been hitting the apartment building for the last hour or two. Tobin grew worried about Y/n getting home safely.
“And the sudden weather change is shocking to us all. It had just been lightly cloudy this entire week. Hopefully, no accidents will happen and everyone will drive with more caution. Fare warning this might make the roads in the morning extra slick, good thing tomorrow is Saturday, so just stay home-”
The weather person just droned on as Tobin toned them out, wrapping the blanket around herself tighter.
The door to the apartment opened and Tobin saw Y/n walking in, soaked. Y/n closed the door as fast as she could.
Y/n took off the coat she was wearing, stripping any wet articles of clothing.
Carrying the clothes Y/n was about to walk to the laundry and then Y/n heard Tobin ask, "Hey are you okay baby?"
"Yeah, I'm just going to take a shower and get into my pajamas." Y/n headed to the laundry putting the clothes in the hamper, getting one hoodie and a fluffy blanket. Putting those two items in the dryer to get them warm.
Y/n then gathered her things for a shower. Once she was done with everything, she got the clothes out of the dryer and headed to the living room to give them to Tobin.
"Baby, I got a warm hoodie and a blanket if you want."
"Thanks." Tobin was handed the hoodie, putting it on quickly Y/n carefully putting the blanket over her.
"I'll get dinner. Do you need your painkillers?"
"Yeah." Tobin weakly admitted.
Y/n just nodded, heading over to the kitchen and getting everything out.
Tobin was left on the couch and though she was grateful for the blanket and hoodie, she couldn't help but feel the absence of Y/n. Normally they'd cuddle during these harsh storms.
The empty spot almost taunted her.
Tobin focused on the TV again, blaming her bad mood on not getting her painkillers sooner but she lost track of time.
Meanwhile, Y/n was tending to dinner, leaving her with her thoughts yet again. Using the scissors to cut something open Y/n accidentally cut her finger.
Grunting when it happened, Y/n quickly got a bandage and washed the cut before blood got everywhere. It was closer to a paper cut than anything that needed stitches.
This only made Y/n's thoughts keep lingering with a sting of venom.
-----
Once dinner was ready they ate in silence, the same thing happening. Tobin falls asleep, plate in hand. Y/n putting her to bed. Not forgetting the crutches. Clean the dishes.
Y/n gets into bed, carefully kissing Tobin's forehead. Reaching over to hold her and cuddle, Y/n stopped.
Y/n just looked at Tobin and then herself, Y/n hesitant to stay in bed with her.
Heavily conflicted because it would worry Tobin if she left but she didn't want to risk anything.
Y/n just decided that nothing had happened so far so she let herself relax. Praying that her body could control itself.
-----
Y/n yawned when she woke up, seeing that it was pretty late in the early hours of the morning. Glancing at how she was laying, she took a sigh of relief when she hadn't moved during her sleep.
Y/n got up to start the morning, only slightly realizing that it was the weekend. And after being up a few minutes Y/n decided it was a good time to take a run.
Normally she tries to focus during her runs, but today she just couldn't.
Her thoughts plagued her again as her jog rather quickly turned to a run and then a sprint. Going off of her normal route she was trying to get away from it all.
That may be all the thoughts she has are wrong.
-----
Y/n got back from work really late, rubbing the tiredness away, and looking to the living area.
When Y/n saw a figure in the living area, she blinked squinting her eyes, rubbing them again. "Hey Tobs, what are you still doing up?"
Y/n didn't expect Tobin to be up when she got back, the tv turned on so Tobin could play her switch. Y/n was tense for a moment but Y/n forced herself to relax.
It didn't really work.
Tobin looked away from the game, "Oh I didn't realize it was so late."
Y/n noticed that Tobin started to itch where the boot ended, Y/n grimaced because of how dirty Tobin must feel.
Y/n got a washcloth and a bowl, filling it with warm water, walking over to Tobin.
Wordlessly, Y/n took off Tobin's boot. Using the cloth to get the dead skin off, slowly, being careful. Also not getting it near the incision.
After a few minutes, Y/n got Tobin's foot clean and Y/n looked up and saw Tobin asleep, the controller falling out of her hands.
Y/n smiled at the site before moving to get a dry paper towel to dry off Tobin's foot. When Y/n was doing said task, Y/n thought sleeping on the couch would be a good choice for tonight.
Taking Tobin to the bed, Y/n made sure everything was in order before crashing on the couch.
-----
Y/n wasn't shocked to wake up in the middle of the night, seemingly not prepared to hear the loud thud from the bedroom.
Then a clear cry came from the same room.
Y/n fumbled off of the couch, running to the sound.
"Tobin?!" Y/n called out to her as she entered the room.
Seeing Tobin shaking on the ground, seemingly to be in pain, Y/n rushed over. Asking ‘what's wrong’ and ‘what happened’.
"Cramp, my leg's cramping. It fucking hurts." Tobin's words were almost labored, her breathing was odd because she was trying not to scream again.
Tears betrayed Tobin as they came out.
"Hey, it's going to be okay," Y/n said to Tobin, Y/n then tried to help with the cramp.
Y/n working with Tobin's leg, Y/n watching Tobin's face to see if she was still in pain or if it was getting any better.
It took a few moments but everything calmed down, Y/n noticing the small tears that escaped Tobin.
Wiping them away, Y/n asked in a hushed tone, "Are you okay, Tobs?"
Tobin nodded her head, not having the energy to say anything.
Y/n nodded back, getting up. Scooping up Tobin and putting her on the bed.
"Do you need anything?"
"No, I'll be fine."
Y/n nodded in response, again. Letting out a weak, “Okay.”
Y/n then got into bed with Tobin, tensing when Tobin started cuddling with her.
Just calm down, Y/n. Not moving means not hurting Tobin.
-----
Tobin looked at the clock, barely five minutes passed since her last glance.
Left to wonder what was keeping Y/n.
Turning back to the television, Tobin heard the door to the apartment open.
Tobin closed her eyes and slowed down her breathing as she heard footsteps suddenly becoming light.
Then a deep sigh from Y/n before she felt Y/n's hand intertwine with her own. Lips on the back of her hand, briefly but softly.
The tiniest patter of something hitting the leather, reminisce of rain on a window but not nearly as loud.
Tobin was tempted to open her eyes and see for herself what was causing it but something told her not to.
She felt Y/n move more then the grip on her hand loosened.
Hearing footsteps walk to the other side of the couch.
"Hey Toby, can you wake up for me?" Only using a gentle tone. Tobin felt Y/n brush her hair out of her face, tucking it behind her ear.
Then lips lightly touched her temple, being reminded just how great it is to be 'woken up' by Y/n.
Tobin only wished she could appreciate it more if she wasn't focused on what happened earlier.
Tobin gradually opened her eyes, looking at Y/n.
The only prevalent emotion on Y/n's face was the small smile.
"Hey there, sleepyhead." Y/n and Tobin make eye contact, a peaceful moment filling the air but it didn't last as Y/n asked, "Do you need anything Tobs?"
Tobin looked away, her facial features hardening.
Her mood suddenly soured.
The small cuts suddenly had saltwater poured into them.
"I need things to go back to normal." Tobin's low tone had a small rasp to it.
Y/n was caught off guard by the sudden change in Tobin, leaving her speechless.
"I need to be on the turf. I need to be training. I need to be with the team. I need to be back on the field." Y/n understood Tobin's frustration and wanted things to be better for her too but suddenly Tobin's words took a turn.
Tobin's voice became louder, as she went on. Almost shouting.
"I need to be treated like a human being and not like glass. I need to be able to do things for myself again. I don't want taken care of like I'm fucking helpless! I don't want to be dependent on you! Of all fucking people!"
Y/n's heart sank, all the air leaving her lungs as Tobin processed what she had just shouted to the world.
Y/n gets off of the couch walking away, poorly lying, "I forgot uh... something at work that needs to be prepared for tomorrow. Don't wait up for me."
Hurrying out of the apartment, Y/n left before Tobin could say anymore.
Tobin fully realizing what just happened, "What have I done."
-----
It was almost past midnight, Y/n figuring Tobin is well asleep by now, Y/n slowly walks back to the apartment.
Y/n stood at the door. Wondering if it was a good idea, not wanting to test what would happen if Tobin was somehow still up.
Y/n pushed herself like ripping off the bandage, Y/n opened the door.
Looking around Y/n didn't see her.
Proceeding to close the door and lock it, Y/n hung up her things. Heading to the couch so it can act as a bed again.
Being exhausted Y/n didn't have trouble passing out on the couch.
Time simply disappeared as soon as Y/n closed her eyes, opening them to see the morning light.
Sitting up Y/n went to the kitchen to hopefully make something to make waking up easier.
Sitting on the counter, mug in hand, Y/n looked down to the liquid not noticing Tobin hobbling out of the bedroom.
Tobin froze, seeing Y/n. She wanted to spill everything and explained what happened but at the same time she just wanted to crawl into a hole and die.
Luckily Y/n's back was facing Tobin so she didn't have to worry about being seen.
Tobin had started walking without being too loud.
Stopping, facing toward Y/n without getting in front of her.
“I’m sorry.”
Y/n head snapped up at the voice, seeing Tobin with her puffy red eyes threatening to spill tears again. Y/n was in a similar state, opening and closing her mouth before looking down at the mug again.
“Don’t be.”
Tobin didn’t know what she was expecting from Y/n, but it wasn’t that.
“You should have stayed back in Manchester to recover.”
Y/n wiped the tears away with her sleeve, continuing, “I’m barely here with work, and when I am here, I was ignorant of what you needed and what you wanted. You’re better off recovering with someone who knows what you’re actually going through. Not me. You only said the truth yesterday.”
Tobin moved slightly moved closer to Y/n, taking little steps, and when Y/n finished Tobin finally got to speak.
“Is that what you’ve been thinking this whole time?” Tobin was in front of Y/n now, in between Y/n’s legs as they dangled off the counter.
“Isn’t it true?” Y/n’s voice cracked saying this while looking into Tobin’s eyes.
Tobin just shook her head ‘no’, with a weak smile. Tobin then clashed their lips together. Both of them were able to taste the tears each of them cried.
Breaking apart, Y/n opened her eyes to see Tobin’s still closed for a few seconds before fluttering open.
“This whole thing is my fault, I was just so focused on my problems I neglected to communicate with you.”
Tobin brushed strains of Y/n’s hair and tucked it behind her ear.
“What I said last night, a lot of it was blown out of proportion because I was stupid to keep it pent up. And when I said those things about you-” Tobin took a deep breath, stopping the lump in her throat.
“I just thought I was a burden for you I didn’t want to be that. You’re such an amazing and loving person I just didn’t want to do that to you.”
“Tobin Heath don’t you ever think of yourself like that. And if you’re fixated on that idea, know that if you were ever a burden, it would be the easiest one I’ve ever had to carry.”
Y/n mirrored Tobin a few minutes ago and pulled Tobin in for a kiss. This one was less intense; both of them finally understood how things had gotten the way that they did.
When they separated for air, Y/n said, “This shit show was both of us. So now that we’ve been all sappy, we can put this behind us?”
“Yeah, I think well deserved cuddles are in order.”
Y/n genuinely smiled and even let out a small giggle. “Whatever you want Tobs.”

Mary-Kate Olsen's Singular Style
She came to fame as a twin, but the actress's cultish look is entirely her own. Here, with Lauren Hutton, she pays homage to another fashion inspiration, Grey Gardens. Written by Laura Brown, with photography by Peter Lindbergh (Harper's Bazaar, 2007)

Mary-Kate Olsen may be the only young actress who breezes into her local Starbucks wearing towering, fashion-fierce Balenciaga boots, who arrives at her latest premiere (in Mary-Kate's case, for the new season of Showtime's Weeds, in which she plays a devout Christian with a pot fetish) sporting an oversize cross, and whose favorite band is Led Zeppelin. She may, in fact, be the only young actress who knows who Led Zeppelin is. MK, as she is known to her friends and family, is also a punctual and professional sort. She arrives for a poolside tea in Los Angeles 10 minutes early, ordering a hot chocolate while explaining her fetish for all things sweet — "I'm a candy girl, like Tootsie Rolls and Swedish Fish" — and objecting when the waiter tries to take the sugar bowl away. She is wearing a nautical striped T-shirt (her mom's, from the '70s), tucked into two black Wolford slips rolled down and turned into a tight, Robert-Palmer-video-style mini, and multicolored sparkly Christian Louboutin stilettos. She's just had her hair colored, returning to a sunnier shade after some experiments with both peroxide ("I woke up one morning and was like, I want white-trash hair today") and the dark side (an auburn-haired near-Goth moment last year). She's carrying a large black fringed leather Prada tote — she doesn't do small bags — and her fingers are covered with rings, most notably two vintage coiled gold snakes stacked on top of each other. ("They remind me of twins, sort of double headed.") Altogether, the effect is less her famed "bag-lady chic" than an edgy, body-conscious, and, yes, sexy silhouette. If she weren't 21, she could be 40. And French.
Few people need reminding that Mary-Kate — with her twin sister, Ashley — literally crawled into celebrity aged nine months (courtesy of Full House) and has not been out of the spotlight ever since. She has been a celebrity for more than two decades. Perhaps that's one reason she seems as if she came out of the womb worldly, the textbook old soul. "Yeah," she says with a small shrug. "I get that a lot." With all of that attention and all of the money (her and Ashley's company, Dualstar, has famously become a "billion-dollar business"), Mary-Kate could easily have ended up the type who wears pink terry cloth and carries a variety of small dogs. "Could you imagine?" she says with the politest version of a snort. "No way." She credits her exceptionally close-knit family (she has five siblings) and, interestingly, early stardom with helping her keep her perspective. "I think it helped that I started in front of the camera, so it didn't come as a shock. If I was a teenager and was thrown into the spotlight, I don't know how I would react, to be honest." Though the tabloids are all too keen to brand her a skinny, nervous deer in the headlights, in person Mary-Kate is easy in her skin, confident and surprisingly tactile, curling up in her seat and touching you on the arm to make a point. She laments the generic style of most actresses and cites only men as style inspirations: "Heath Ledger, Johnny Depp. Men, they just dress the way they want, and they don't think about Who Wore It Best." She doesn't much care for Who Wore It Best, noting she avoids those pages by "wearing vintage so often. I just dress the way I feel instead of looking for what's the new handbag." If Mary-Kate and Ashley have their way, more people will be wearing clothes and carrying bags the way they do. They have just shown the fifth collection of their ready-to-wear line, the Row, and recently launched a contemporary label, Elizabeth and James, named after a sister and a brother. The Row's holiday collection (in stores next month) is a slick mix of skinny leather pants, razor-cut blazers, butter-soft, slouchy tees, and a destined-to-be-cultish pullover fur. Lauren Hutton, who stars in the Row's Spring '08 look book, says, "The clothes are extraordinary. A man I was with just loved them. The pieces are just so genius, soft like a baby's skin. Simple minimalist stuff, but really spectacular." Mary-Kate, designer, faces an interesting challenge. She has to marry Dualstar — which has made its fortune selling tween-tastic DVDs and pastel Mary-Kate and Ashley T-shirts at Wal-Mart — with her increasingly edgy and subversive taste. Dualstar executives, some of whom have worked with her since she was a child, often nag her, mom-style, about pulling her hair back "or wearing a color," she says with a laugh. "I had this event recently, and I was like, They're going to be so happy that I'm wearing ... purple. I actually have to think about those things, though, you know, so I don't get trashed." Get trashed sometimes she does. Hutton says, "Once in a while, she'll wear something and I'll think, Oh, baby doll, take another look. But to have the bravery, to take the chance to do that, is pretty wonderful. She is making her own way, which is hardly ever done in Hollywood." Of Mary-Kate's penchant for gigantic Balenciaga heels, Jenji Kohan, the creator of Weeds, says, laughing, "I'd be like, 'It's Tuesday. Do you really want to be wearing those shoes?' But she pulls it off." Designer Giambattista Valli, a friend, says, "She likes to take risks, but because she has such strong personal style, she always manages to make it work. Even if she had nothing on, she'd have style." And MK chic is spreading. "Sometimes I'll look at people or at a magazine and I'll do a double take because I'm like, Oh, my God, that's my outfit, but that's not me," Mary-Kate says. Playing with her wire-rimmed aviators, she jokes wryly that she should have bought shares in Ray-Ban. (She and Chloë Sevigny pretty much brought back white '80s Wayfarers.) She tends to fall in love with a look, then wear it until she's done. "If I put together a good outfit, I'll wear it for three days and then switch it up with a blazer," she says. "I still love my vintage jeans, my tights, and my pants, though." She didn't start wearing heels, in fact, until a couple of years ago: "I kept watching Ashley walk around in them so gracefully, and I'm such a klutz. But I ended up loving heels, and I don't usually take them off." She wears precisely one pair of flat shoes: Chanel's knee-high patent-leather gladiator sandals. This season, it's Balenciaga's fall collection — all of it — that has Mary-Kate obsessed. She is close to designer Nicolas Ghesquière and says, "He is so talented, but he's the nicest, most down-to-earth guy, and that makes everything he does more brilliant. I bought everything, but I haven't got anything yet," she says like a girl impatiently waiting for Christmas. Will she wear the new pieces with her infamous clodhopper boots? "Uh-huh. Wore them the other day, actually." Mary-Kate always goes with her gut, even if some people (back to those tabloids) don't quite get it. "The tabloids say things about me? What do they say?" she asks archly. "People are going to write what they want, and everyone's going to have their own idea of who I am. But I'm not trying to be friends with the people who are reading them, really." After a rough couple of years filled with near-forensic scrutiny of her weight, she'll have you know that she does eat. "This is not going to sound good," she laughs, "but I like making crispy tofu sticks with peanut sauce. I love my sashimi and my salmon and my vegetables." She observes, "Stress plays a big role in how I look day-to-day. I've always been very active — Pilates, yoga. I grew up horseback riding every day for hours. I love dancing. I usually last longer than anyone on the dance floor." A common image of Mary-Kate has her emerging from a coffee joint with an oversize cup. "I always get creamed for having my Starbucks cup," she says, sighing. "But the only time people get photos of me is when I'm getting coffee, when I can't sneak away from the camera." She also resents the pictorial implication that she and Ashley are dilettantes. "They take photos of us going into our offices, and it's 'Mary-Kate and Ashley shopping again.' But I'm going to work for eight hours, and we're working so hard. ..." She trails off. "It just shows how people want to think of you." Mary-Kate is not above celeb watching herself, however. Newly obsessed with Victoria Beckham, she notes she avidly watched Beckham's Coming to America documentary: "She's running around in a bikini and heels, and I'm like, Oh, my God! I do that, too!" How positively Grey Gardens. "I run around my house naked with heels all the time. It's so funny. All my friends will tell you I love running around in kimonos and jewelry or naked with jewelry." More people will be watching Mary-Kate soon, thanks to her role in the Emmy-nominated Weeds. "I am a very good Christian girl," she says with a wink. "She has her moral beliefs — and she happens to smoke pot." Of her newest cast member, Kohan adds, "Mary-Kate is complicated. She's a big celebrity, a huge media icon, but you have to separate the media images from someone who has the same issues, the same desires, as anyone else." Of course, Mary-Kate's image, in all its incarnations — from high fashion to small screen — is her strongest asset. And she has yet to settle on one. "I feel like I've lived 10 different lives already and I'm only 21," she says, almost as a reminder to herself. "But I also feel like I'm entering a new chapter." One thing on which she is clear, though: She doesn't need to be looked at all the time. What would she do for a day if she were invisible? "I would probably go to a restaurant with my friends, who would be able to see me, of course," she adds pragmatically, "and I would sit outside and enjoy a nice lunch with them. Then I would walk down the street." The old soul takes a sip of her little-girl-sweet hot chocolate. "That's what I would do."

A/N: Sorry I’m late, but honestly that’s very me so. Anyway, hope you’re ready because I am y/n, you are y/n, we are all y/n this time round. 😏
Tumblr media
"Need some help?"
You looked up from where you were kneeling on the floor to see none other than Polly Shelby. You'd pulled your rosary too tight again, and the thread snapped from the tension. Now, before you could stop her, Polly was kneeling and helping you pick them up.
Polly was always kind to you. When needed, she shared her hymn book and complimented your church hats that matched your dresses particularly well. Even though you never had much to say, she was always casually chatting with you.
"You're not seeing anyone, are you?" Polly asked, catching you off guard. Was this why she was so lovely? Two women in an empty church, and one of them confesses to the other. What would God say?
"I'm not."
"You should meet my nephew, Thomas. I think you'd make quite the pair."
You smiled at the invitation. It wasn't out of flattery, per se, but more because you knew it must have been difficult for Polly to be an aunt taking on her duty as a familial matchmaker when her nephews ran the most dangerous gang in Small Health. Polly didn't seem like the type to let anything happen to you if things didn't work out on a simple date, and you felt indebted to her for being such a good friend to you. So you nodded.
"Well, if he asked me to dinner, I'm sure I wouldn't say no."
You didn't think much of it, quite frankly. In the year that you'd been in Small Heath, you'd turned down enough dinner invitations to be thought of as a godly woman and a prude. Not that you minded. You were single and childless in the newly bustling city of Birmingham, and living alone for the first time in your life was a luxury you didn't want to give up. You had your mother's pistol tucked in your bag and a vague idea of how to shoot it, so you were safe enough, but the added rumor that you were unapproachable was helpful.
If anything, what surprised you most was Thomas Shelby actually showing up to church that Sunday. Even leaning against the stone wall outside with a cigarette in hand was enough to cause a stir as the congregation poured out of the church.
He was a handsome man, and his cool, certain eyes seemed to see right through you. Even with your heart thumping in your chest, gravitating towards him was only natural. He was waiting for you, after all.
"Y/n L/n?" He asked, his voice deep and telling of his : upbringing. It fit him well, you thought as you looked at him from under your sun hat.
"Mr. Shelby," you said with a nod.
"My aunt seemingly won't rest until I ask you to dinner," he said, dipping a hand into his pocket to reach for more cigarettes.
"Oh? Is this you doing it?"
Tommy's head tilted at you as he took in your smile and looked you over. You were already a bit bold for someone who was meeting a hoodlum. A smirk crept onto his face. He wasn't complaining.
"Ms. l/n, would you have dinner with me?" He asked. You paused, causing him to sigh and pull out his cigarettes. "My aunt promised I wouldn't get rejected by a beautiful woman if I got the courage to ask. Now I'm embarrassed."
"I'm sure you're not," you said, laughing to ignore the butterflies in your stomach. "But I will go to dinner with you, Mr. Shelby. I did promise Miss Shelby." Tommy looked you over again before nodding.
"I look forward to it."
                                              .:.
When Tuesday evening rolled around, Tommy was at your doorstep in a fine suit. If you had any doubt about your long, beaded dress being nice enough, Tommy pushed the thoughts away in an instant.
"You look stunning, Miss l/n," he praised you while holding out his arm.
"Thank you, Tommy. You look very handsome tonight as well."
There was an air of authority about him, yet his gaze was soft when he met your eyes and smiled. The car ride was comfortable enough and did nothing to prepare you for the exquisite venue. The ceilings were high, and the decor was elegant.
"It's my job to find a venue a quarter as lovely as the woman accompanying me, isn't it," Tommy said when you mentioned that it was possibly too fancy for you.
"Oh please," you murmured, waving away the compliment.
At some point throughout the night, you wondered if you'd been on a better date. Tommy took care of everything, from directing the butlers in their penguin suits to ordering things he seemed to know you'd like. ON your own, you'd have spent half an hour choosing a meal, and god only knew how long getting a server's attention. But tonight, you were left to focus on his witty storytelling that left you laughing behind your napkin. Tommy raised a hand and grasped yours. It was a small amount of contact but, perhaps the wine or the man himself made you want more of his warmth. All too soon, he gently pulled your hand down and into your lap.
"Don't hide. I want to hear more from you," Tommy said. Your cheeks flashed hot as your mind took a naughty detour for a moment.
"Okay, Tommy."
It was after dinner that truly hooked you to the man. He wrapped you in his jacket before helping you into his car and driving you home. His hand rested on your knee on the way back. Yet, when he stood in front of your door, you were greeted with a hug. You didn't realize it until you leaned into his embrace that you were a bit anxious about a goodnight kiss or even Tommy pushing his way into your apartment. Gangster or not, he was a strong man with a domineering personality. He could have anything he wanted. You hadn't guessed that meant a simple hug and a request for a second date. Still, it left you smiling as you watched his car drive away from the entrance of your apartment.
                                              .:.
"Ah, this is favorite."
"Really?"
"Winston Churchill himself recommended it."
You turned to Tommy with a skeptical eye.
"Liar."
"How could I find the strength to lie to you, y/n?"
You rolled your eyes but turned back to the new gramophone in front of you. You had several dates with Tommy, and his gentlemanly behavior only continued. He never tried anything scandalous or forward, even as he managed to charm you to high heaven. There were times you wondered if, and perhaps even secretly hoped for, Tommy would move his hand up your thigh or kiss your neck. But it seemed that every date was an opportunity for him to learn more about you. He was more perceptive than you knew. He understood what you wanted and even made you feel like he could read your mind sometimes.
You'd had partners before, even an adulterous ex-fiance, but with them, it felt like they were trying to learn your secrets to use against you. With Tommy, it seemed like he used that information to make you happy. Your eyes lit up when he brought you your favorite kind of pastry and a new scarf in your favorite color.
His latest gift was the record player, and you shamelessly used the gift of music as an excuse to finally invite Tommy inside after a month of dating when it was clear he wouldn't do it himself.
"You're quite the gentleman, Mr. Shelby," you mused as you slow danced in your living room. Tommy's hand flattened over your spine and pulled you closer.
"I'd say you're bringing out the best in me yet, Ms. y/l/n."
He leaned forward and pressed his lips gently against yours. You moaned softly against his lips as your swaying left the rhythm of the song to match you and Tommy. There was a hunger in his kiss that made you wonder just how much he was holding back. He could have any woman he wanted, you thought, but he was patiently kissing you to your liking and no more. His hand moved to thumb the buttons on your dress, and you pulled away gently. A guiding hand on your lower back or a calloused hand helping you out of the Bentley made your heart flutter, yet you still hesitated to take things further.
"Wait, Tommy."
"Hm?"
"Not yet," you said shyly, not able to look him in the eyes. Tommy smirked at you. Little did you know, this confirmed several things he knew about you.
"Good girl."
Your eyes shot up to his in shock. What was this? His choice of words, his praise, the feeling of your insides warming all filled you with a sense of wonder. There was something in his eyes that looked satisfied and almost like an invitation. Would you accept? Accept what exactly?
Not knowing the question or your answer, you kissed him again.
                                              .:.
Good girl.
Those two words were planted in your mind like seeds meant to sprout a specific restlessness.
You thought about it passively for a while. At first, you wondered if you should be upset. Was Tommy treating you like a child? But nothing he did ever made it feel that way. If anything, Tommy was the one person who treated you most like a woman. After a few weeks, you began to think of it too often. On your lunches with Tommy or when he took you to the horse races, you wondered if he'd repeat it. You were eager to hear him say it.
When you thought about it alone in the bath, you realized you couldn't hold it together much longer. Your eyes fluttered closed as you remembered that night. But memories turned to fantasy, and you could feel his breath against your ear.
"Good girl. You're a good girl, y/n."
Your hands moved before you could think much about it. It had been a while since you'd done this, sliding a delicate finger between your legs.
"Good girl," you whispered, your voice echoing off the walls and sending the praise back to you. You swirled your clit and repeated it again. Thinking of all the ways Tommy had touched you, even innocently, remembering the feeling and that casual smirk he wore. "Tommy, fuck, yes, I'm a good girl- ah!"
Your thighs squeezed your hand as your hips jerked with a strong release. Your eyes opened, and you stared at the ceiling.
"This is getting ridiculous."
                                              .:.
Tommy was just a little too good at listening to you, you decided. Anything you told him not to do was met with praise, and he'd never do it again. You'd expected, based on past experiences with men, that Tommy would try to push you until you were just where he wanted you. Instead, you were the one spacing out during dinner while admiring how good he looked in his suit. Would you prefer it on or off if he were devouring you?
Tommy asked if you felt alright, which made you ashamed to even think the way you were. When did you get so lewd? It was in your apartment that Tommy let you know he knew exactly what you were thinking. You sat next to him on your couch, handing him a nightcap of brandy.
"Y/n, you know that I care about you, don't you?"
"Yes, of course." You nodded quickly. Was this actually the end of things? You hoped not.
"I care about you more than I thought I could. And one of those reasons is because you know what you want," said Tommy as he sat his glass down.
Your brows furrowed at the words. You thought you were indecisive and unable to speak up. If only Tommy knew how you'd been suffering. He continued after reading the confusion on your face.
"Whenever we come back here, you know how far you want to go, and you know when to make a man like me stop."
"Oh,"
"I won't push you, love. I'm as patient as ever, so if you want more or less, that's up to you. It's whatever you'd like."
Tommy leaned over and placed a hand on your knee reassuringly, though it only helped your heart beat harder. You shifted in your seat, uneasy with the amount of power you realized you had.
"I see."
"If we do go further, I'd like to implement a few rules. How does that sound?"
"Rules?" You tilted your head. You liked rules and systems. Even as a coat check girl, you were known for your orderly approach to things.
"Yes, if you decide that's something you want to explore, we'll talk then. But no need to worry about it until you're ready."
"I actually wanted to talk to you about doing more," you said bashfully, though it was a lie. You'd planned to simply move Tommy's hand under your skirt and have him put you out of your misery.
"Come here, y/n."
Tommy brought you to sit on his lap. His hand caressed your thigh, and the other was around your waist. Your arms wrapped around him as your reveled in the feeling of safety.
"Alright, Mr. Shelby, what are they?"
"I'm going to tell you them, and you need to remember the order, alright?" He asked, and you nodded, only to have him tsk you. "Ah, love, when I ask you a question, I want to hear your voice. I want to make sure you're sure. That's rule number one: everything we do requires a verbal agreement. Try it now."
"Oh, then, yes. I'll remember the order, Tommy."
"Good girl," he praised, making you smile softly. "Rule number two is that you can't cum until I tell you, alright sweetheart?"
"Tommy!" You jolted in surprise. You didn't know what you thought he was going to say, but that was not it. He chuckled at your reaction and squeezed your waist. He would have stopped if you asked, but for now, he was well aware that you were already starting to squirm in his lap. His sweetheart liked being a little flustered, didn't you?
"Rule number three is that I am in charge of your body. I have full access to it, and you, love," Tommy reached up and tilted your chin so he could give you a saccharine kiss, "you may not touch yourself unless I say."
The mix of salacious words and tender caresses sent waves of desire straight to the apex of your thighs. Could Tommy tell that you'd been doing just that?
"Rule four is that you have to tell me when you don't like something. You do that so well already, and I'm proud of you for that."
"T-thank you," you murmured. You couldn't help but bite your lip. Such simple words of praise were sending you into a mild frenzy.
"When you want me to stop, just say 'no more, I'm satisfied.' Can you do that?" He asked you, and you nodded. This time, however, you quickly remembered what Tommy told you before.
"Yes. No more. I'm satisfied," you repeated the phrase while wondering when you'd use it.
"You can say that for anything at all. If you're uncomfortable, or even just a little too tired."
"Okay."
You nodded in agreement, though you couldn't help be feel nervous. After weeks of nothing more than a mild groping hand, Tommy was proving to be this person? But maybe it was the way that you couldn't stop yourself from squirming, trying to press your legs together for some type of friction that made you equally excited. Tommy kissed you again and held your chin.
"Sweetheart, I promise that I'll use these to make you feel really good. I hope you can trust me, and I trust you to use that voice of yours and tell me when you don't like something, yes?"
"Yes."
"Do you agree then? Do those rules sound good to you?" He asked you directly.
"Yes," you nodded, then softly adjusted. Something in you made you want to add, "Yes, Sir."
Tommy squeezed your thigh, and you looked to his eyes to see a burning fierceness in them. He really enjoyed that. It was nice knowing he wasn't embarrassing you. You were in this together.
"Good girl."

Cliche (Tobin x Reader)
Tumblr media
Request: Marriage Proposal
Author’s Note: Special Thanks to @literaryhedgehog
“I’m just saying, I opened my inbox. SOMEONE should have messaged me,” Tobin said, tugging on her hair frustratedly. You watched in amusement, loving the way the sunlight caught her hair, as you exited the movie theater. She was so focused on her tirade that she didn’t even look down as she stumbled over an uneven brick in the patio, just continued walking. “It’s been open for days and I reblogged several of those ‘send me a number and I’ll answer a question’ posts!”
“Babe, you run an anonymous fandom blog for a sci-fi television show that stopped running 15 years ago,” you said, rolling your eyes.
“19 years, ago,” Tobin corrected, “and it has a pretty strong fanbase! That fanart I made got at least 100 likes.”
“You’re just lucky they didn’t match the brush strokes or something and figure out it was you. Like they did with your other fake Tumblr. They’re like crazy detectives,” You said side eyeing your girlfriend.
“I mean, I was making fanart of us on that one, it was pretty obvious.”
“I love it when you paint me, but It’s really creepy that you put it on the internet,” You huffed, crossing your arms tightly across your chest.
“Oh come on, I only posted the ones I made from press photos. You have a problem with the high definition, you talk to Alyssa’s girlfriend. She’s the photographer.”
“As long as you keep your drawings just for us, yeah?” You asked. Tobin had quite the eye, and she often found her greatest inspiration when you were relaxed. When you let your guard down. That mess the that many of her sketches of you were most certainly not suitable for public consumption.
“Anything I draw from life instead of from a screen I keep.” Tobin winked at you and linked her arm through yours. “So, what did you think of the movie? Or was it too romantic for you, you action-thriller loving fiend?”
You shrugged. “I think it was a little too cliche. Like who the fuck brings a diamond ring to the airport and uses the intercom to propose to the girl who just dumped him for a job across the country? And then she chooses him?” Some plots just made zero sense. At least your action movies didn’t force a girl to choose a person who was completely wrong for her.
“Oh come on, everyone loves cliches. I’ve seen the number of ‘there were only one bed’ fics you’ve read.”
“Those aren’t forced heteronormative love stories that don’t actually care about the characters” You scoffed.
“I have seen your archive of our own bookmarks, do we want to continue this conversation?” Tobin said sweetly, looking at the windows of the shops you passed, though you could see her suppressing a smile. She loved winning, be it argument or soccer game.
“My archive history doesn’t count,” you grumbled, pouting. It wasn’t your fault you had been kinda into Bellatrix dating Hermione, especially when they were both the same age and you got to see some Hogwarts hijinks (it helped you weren’t a Ron fan either).
“Sure, sure. Tell you what. You don’t like my new favorite Rom-Com? Show me you can do better,” Tobin gestured to the outdoor coffee shop along the route ahead. “Real life coffee shop AU. Here’s your chance to defy heteronormative love stories and cliches in the most romantic way possible.”
“Just please don’t spill your drink on me ok? You already have my number,” You asked, raising your eyebrows. You happened to like this shirt and didn’t want it to get ruined.
“That would be a cliche, wouldn’t it? I thought you wanted to avoid those?” Tobin said, raising her eyebrows to mirror yours as she pulled out a chair from one the tables, “you’re chair, mon chere?”
“You can be quite the Gentlelandy miss Heath if I do say so myself,” You smirked, settling into the chair she had pulled out for you, kissing her cheek.
“Why thank you,” Tobin said, tossing her hair back playfully before settling into her own seat. She grabbed the menu and opened it up. “So, what are you thinking? Asking the barista to make heart-shaped foam? Splitting a pasta dish and reenacting lady and the tramp?”
“I was thinking a cafe mocha with no whip, and I’m pretty sure this place doesn’t sell spaghetti,” you said, setting your chin on your hands, leaning on the table.
“I think I’ll get a nice chai latte. And a muffin on the side.”
“Lame. How do you live in Portland and hate coffee?”
“I thought you were supposed to say nice things. We already know each other, this can’t be enemies to lovers AU!”
“You’re still stuck on that?” You asked, sighing when Tobin raised her eyebrow at you. “Fine. How nice of you to choose a predictably unusual drink, and healthy snack for our date. Better?”
Tobin snorted. “Undeniably.”
“Good,” you watched her as she placed your orders with the waitress, thinking over what to do. She managed to place the order with her usual level-headedness, but she had the slightest smirk as she turned back to you. It was both loving and a challenge.
“Babe,” you said, “I literally have no idea how to make this a living coffee shop AU. I can’t remember the last time I read one of those where neither of the characters was a barista.”
“First I think we talk about random things while sipping our drinks, wondering how we get each other so well,” Tobin started, setting your drink on the table in front of you.
“So basically do what we normally do, but with added pressure?”
“Yep! Wanna start? You can tell me about that new fanfic writer you’ve been reading? The one who writes the really cute Sonnett fics?”
“Oneanddone has a couple… it’s like they actually know about Snippets from her and Lindsey’s relationship,” You said, your lips ticking up.
“That sounds fun and not at all creepy,” Tobin said, leaning forward.
“The best one was where Lindsey flew all the way to Sweden to propose. It was cute, but entirely too cliche,” You winked at Tobin, so she knew you were continuing the joke. “She just showed up and proposed after Emily won the championship and Emily kissed her hard hat and all. Like they would give the fans that much PDA in one shot,”
“Hmmm, better check for cameras then,” Tobin said, ruffling in her pocket. You heard the sound of candy wrappers, as usual following a movie with her.
“What?”
Tobin got down from her chair and kneeled in front of you. “Y/M/N, I have liked you since the first day I met you. You were smart, beautiful, and had a hell of a right hook. Watching you on that punching bag was one of the sexiest things I had ever seen, up until the day you agreed to go out on a date with me. And the date after that, and the date after that. I fell in love with a woman who’s not afraid to have an opinion, who will ask to pet every dog she sees, and who loves listening to me rant about any subject over the moon. Now I know you don’t like cliches, so I didn’t get you a diamond,” She pulled her hand out of her pocket and held the ring pop up for you to see, “I got you a cherry. I also have a grape and orange in my purse. Will you marry me?”
“Yes,” You breathed out, forgoing the ring pop in favor of kissing your girlfriend- fiancé.
“Such a cliche,” she murmured against your lips, threading her fingers through your hair.
“Shut up and kiss me,”

No Working Tonight
Tumblr media
Note:...hi jkhdskhf this is my first ever fic i’ve ever written so.....if its not good then this never happened lkdjjk. Anyways i’m not really sure how I feel about this so let me know what you think bc idk if i’m in love with it. Also, sorry for any mistakes like i’ve said i’ve never done this before lmao.
content: assistant!y/n X harry styles
warnings: none really, drinking maybe.
word count: 2.1k+
                                            ///
Y/n has been running around all day trying to get things ready for tonight. Tonight was very important and everything had to be perfect. She’s spent half of her day on the rooftop of one of Harry’s favorite fancy clubs in LA, where the party is going to be. She’s been setting up tables and making sure there was enough drinks and food for every one that RSVPed. Tonight they were celebrating the end of love on tour. Celebrating the end of the fine line era really. He’s worked so hard writing, recording and then touring. She’d be lying if she said she wasn’t proud of him.
Now though, she can’t think about that, she needs to focus so she can finish up and head home to get ready for tonight. Just as she’s going over the last few things with the staff of the club, Harry walks in.
“Hey!” Y/n says when she notices him “What are you doing here? You’re Supposed to be getting ready for tonight!”
“I could ask ya the same thing! thought I told ya no workin’ tonigh’” he replies.
“Hmm, no rest for the wicked I guess” y/n jokes. “Anyways, what are you doing here??”
“Came to drop some things off ’or tonigh’, but I was serious! No workin’! Go home! Get ready! You’re not my assistant tonigh’ you're a Guest, and guests aren’t to arrive for a few more hours.” Harry replied.
“I know, I know, I’m sorry! I just want to make sure everything is perfect for tonight! You’ve worked hard.”
“n’ I’m sure it will be, you’ve worked just as hard as me love, if anythin’, tonigh’ is a celebration of you to, couldn'ta done it without ya.”
“Don’t say that” y/n says, rolling her eyes. “I just follow your orders” she fake smiles at him.
He copies her previous movement, rolling his own eyes. “go home Before I have to call security on ya, I’ll see you tonigh’ love.”
                                             ///
Y/n showed up early of course. To make sure everything was still running smoothly. And it was, of course, she was the one who set this all up after all.
As the night went on, more and more friends and family of Harry’s have arrived. She’s never seen him so happy. He was practically glowing under all the praise he was getting. He deserved it all.
“Y/n!” She heard Harry call, breaking her out of her thought. “Come over here! There’s someone I want you to meet!”
She excused herself from the Conversation she was pretending to be interested in. Making her way over to Harry, grabbing another Champagne glass off a tray of a server who walked by.
“Harry” he said, placing his hand on her back and pulling her a tad bit closer. “this is y/n l/n, y/n, this is Harry Lambert.”
“Oh, yes of course!” Y/n said, shaking his hand. “I’ve heard so much about you!”
“As have I you!” Lambert replied. “I can’t believe it’s taken us so long to meet! As we both spend as much time with H as we do.”
The night went on like that. Harry pulling her from groups of people to people, introducing her to everyone he could.
It would have been a little strange to y/n if she didn’t have quite as many champagne glasses in her as she did, but Harry did say she wasn’t working tonight after all. So why was he keeping her so close by? If he didn’t need her for anything, why was he making sure she wasn’t out of his sight all night?
A couple of new acquaintances and Champagne glasses later. Jeff stepped up on a makeshift stage. “If I could get everyone's attention for just a moment please?” He said into a microphone. “Hi, I’m sorry, I’ll let you all get back to eating and mingling amongst yourselves In just a Moment, I just wanted to say a few words about the man of the hour.”
Jeff’s promise to be just a moment did not come true. After Jeff had said a speech about how proud he was of Harry, there seemed to be a line of others who also wanted to share just how proud they were of him. And again, he was glowing. Complements looked good on him.
Maybe it was the champagne, or maybe it was just The sheer fact that y/n was so proud of Harry that she couldn’t keep it in any longer and she felt the need to share her own speech of praise in front of all his friends and family.
Mitch was finishing up his speech, so she went and stood by the makeshift stage so when he was done, he would pass her the microphone.
“Hi everybody.” y/n said into the mic once Mitch wrapped his speech up. “so I guess it's my turn to say a few words now.” she said with a small laugh.
“Um, for those of you who don’t know me, I’m y/n l/n, H’s assistant….servant, same thing right?” She laughed as did everyone in the crowd.
She made eye contact with Harry who was rolling his eyes at her previous joke. “no no, I’m just kidding, Harry’s actually really amazing to work with. He always jokes about he doesn’t know where he’d be without me, he’d truly lose his head if It wasn’t screwed on.” she laughs again. “but really, I’m not sure where I’d be if it wasn’t for him.” Her voice softened.
“I’m just so so proud of you and the man you have become H, and I know everyone else here is too. You are truely, the most selfless hard working man I know, and I just can’t say enough how proud I am of you. Congratulations on fine line.” She finishes, holding up her champagne glass as a toast, and the rest of the crowd follows.
She steps off the small stage and hands the microphone over to the next person. Walking over to where Harry is standing.
He has such a content look on his face. “hey.” she starts.
“Hi.” he smiles. “thank you.” He says, pulling her into a hug. “really, your words mean a lot to me, so thank you.”
“Of course H, I meant everything I said.” she says into his neck.
She spends the rest of the speeches by him, with his hands on both her shoulders gently swaying them both. Every once in a while she’ll look up at Harry’s face to see his endeared smile at someone talking about him on stage, or laughing at something they said.
A few more complaints and embarrassing stories later, the night is winding down and people are starting to head out. Y/n is one of the last people there, helping clean up, and making sure all the dishes and decor that Harry brought from home himself, gets back to his place.
“’scuse me? Thought I told you no workin’ tonigh’” Harry says, walking over to her.
She smiles at him. “if I don’t do this then who will?” She starts to walk to him, meeting him in the middle when she trips, almost falling but Harry reached out and grabbed her. “woah, careful love.”
“See I told you,” she said. “wasn’t working tonight, had too much champagne.”
“Yeah I see that, not really in a state to drive are ya?”
“Probably not, I was gonna call myself an Uber.”
“Nonsense, ride with me?”
“Mhhh okay, but only because I’m gonna be the one calling your car round anyways. It’s the least you can do.” She jokes.
As they walk down the stairs and to the front of the building where his car is waiting for them, Harry keeps a hand on her the whole time, just in case she falls again.
“Here ya go love.” he says, opening her door, helping her climb in, and buckling her seat belt.
“Thank you, but I can buckle myself up you know?”
“Hm, judging from that almost fall upstairs, doubtful.” Harry replies, climbing in his own seat next to her. “Home please.” He tells his driver.
“Not funny.” y/n says, laying her head on his shoulder and closing her eyes. “you have fun tonight H?”
If Harry’s heart could burst, he swears it would right then and there. “I did love.” He chuckles.
“Why are you laughing? I’m serious you know?”
“Mh so I am. You’re a sleepy drunk huh? Don’t think I’ve ever seen you drunk before.”
“I should hope not, you’ve only ever seen me when I’m working” She says, eyes still closed.
“Suppose, did you have fun tonigh’ love?”
“Mh” She hums. “I’m so cold.”
“Ya cold? Comere.” He says, pulling her further into him, wrapping his arms around her and running his hands up and down her to warm her up.
“Thanks” she says sleepily.
                                           \\\
“Wake up love, we’re home.” y/n feels Harry whisper into her hair.
She stirs awake, still laying against Harry. Lifting her head up so she’s looking at him, their faces inches apart.
“Hi” she whispers.
“Lo’ love.”
“You’re so pretty.” she whispers at him again.
A couple moments pass before he whispers back. “thank you sweetheart, you’re prettier.”
She stares up at him again, looking at his eyes, moving down to his lips when he licks them and says “let’s go inside yeah?”
“You brought me back to your house?” She Asks while he helps her step out if the car, still worried about her falling.
“Hm” he hums. “wanted to make sure you’re safe.”
“I’m not that drunk H.” she laughs. “just a little sleepy s’all.”
“Just let me take care of ya yeah?”
“That’s my job.” she laughs as Harry leads her inside his house.
“You’re off duties tonigh’, member?”
“Guess you’re right.”
“Hm, go get yourself changed into some comfy clothes yeah? I’m gonna get ya some water.”
If she wasn’t so tired and ready to get out of her dress, she would have protested some more, but instead she agreed and headed upstairs to Harry’s room. She must have something here to wear. She has spent a couple nights in Harry’s guest bedroom when she was working too late and Harry didn’t want her to fall asleep on her drive home.
Instead of making her way to the guest bedroom. Something (the champagne most likely) carried her into Harry’s bedroom. She opened his closet doors and ran her fingers across his t-shirt section, that she just color coded a couple of weeks ago.
She picked her favorite, a white shirt with blue writing that says “enjoy heath, eat your honey” and slipped it on over her head. She also slipped on some of his boxer shorts.
Feeling more tired than ever. She walked herself over to his bed and laid down on the comforter, deciding she’d wait for Harry there.
                                           \\\
She stirred awake for the second time that night when she felt Harry pulling the comforter over her.
“Shhh, go back to sleep baby, just covering you up.” Harry whispered.
She grabbed his arm when he went to move away. “mm, where you going?” she mumbled, Sleepily.
“Gonna go lay down in the guest bedroom Love, you stay here yeah?”
“Nooo” she whined, opening her eyes to look at him. “lay with me?”
Again, if Harry’s heart could burst, it would. “Ya want me to stay?”
She nodded her head. “Please?”
“Okay baby I’ll stay, scoot over.”
After Harry climbed into bed, she made herself at home on his chests once again.
“Comfy?” He asked.
“Mhh” she hummed, looking up at him. “Harry?”
“Yeah love?” He said, looking back down at her.
She was laying on his chests still, head facing up so that she was looking directly at him. She scanned his face, starting at his eyes, they were content, she traveled down to his lips, staying there, watching them whisper “not nice to Stare love” after a moment.
He brings his hand down to her own lips, dragging his thumb across them.
 “H?” She whispers again.
He brings his eyes back up to hers.
“Kiss me.” She says.
“What?”
“Please.” She whispered back, pulling herself closer to him.
He searched her eyes for any sign of doubt. When he found none, he leaned in connecting their lips, kissing her soft at first. He pulled back, looked at her again, making sure she was still alright, then leaned back in, kissing her and kissing her, until they both ran out of breath.
She laid her chin on his chest, smiling up at him, while he’s running his fingers through her hair.
“Ya good?” He asks, smiling at her content face.
“The best”  She replied.

Being The Smartest Shelby Would Include:
Tumblr media
Polly knew you were smart from the start
She said so when you were a baby, but of course no one believed her
Everyone thought their kids were special, but you really were
Born just a few years before Finn, you weren't the baby, but you definitely weren't the oldest, so it was hard to be taken seriously
It started with your homework
You spent a lot of nights trying to tell your siblings it was just too easy
You weren't just getting every answer right, you were finishing pages of work in minutes, faster than anyone in your class
Eventually, you moved on to your brothers work
Finding it discarded on the table, you recognized Johns scraggly handwriting
He'd only made it halfway through, so you decided to finish it, even fixing some of his mistakes along the way
You wanted to show them what you'd done, but of course no one listened
At least, not until you stood on your chair and demanded that someone look over your work
It was a bit dramatic, and made for an embarassing story later, but you wanted to be heard
They did, finally, and they were shocked
Tommy handed it to John, who passed to Ada, skipping over Arthur, who eventually got it to Polly
"Well?"
"It's right, all of it. . . ."
"Fuck."
It wasn't just math though. You were reading every book you could find, even the ones your siblings struggled to get through
You had a knack for puzzles, for figuring things out no one else could, able to pull things apart and put them together just in your head
Polly knew, and she was going to do something about it
Anything she could find to keep you entertained, occupied, your mind at work, she'd bring it home
You had an incredible memory too, remembering everything from the contents on the back of bottles you brothers drank from to entire speeches Polly gave when all of you were misbehaving
It was amazing, to say the least
You were a kid when your brothers went off to war, so it was mostly Ada and Polly who spent long nights with you at the table over homework
You didn't think it was fair, that you were forced to stay in school when none of your siblings were
Polly called it a gift, said you shouldn't take it for granted
She had big plans for you, the kind of career kids like you could only dream of
Finn grows up with you reading to him every night
Even helping him with schoolwork, though that didn't last very long
It still irks you Polly let's Finn drop school, not even getting past reading himself, but you know better than to push the subject
By the time your brothers come back, thankfully all in one piece, you've become a bit of a myth or legend around the Small Heath
Not only are you taller and with more acne, a young teenager, you've made a name for yourself, and a business
After school you could be found with a hat on the ground, getting pocket change for your "abilities"
Showing off and splitting the money with friends, you put on shows
Memorizing the faces of strangers, drawing them almost perfectly by hand, reciting lines of poetry from class all from memory, etc.
Sometimes you bring Finn along, promising candy for his silence, making him part of the act
Your favorite is showing off the languages you've lesrned, switching between Romani, French, Italian, and German (to name a few) without a second thought, so effortlessly
Arthur caught you once, but instead of saying anything, he simply cheered you on, laughing at the fact that your business was doing better than the familys
You spent a lot of time in the shop like Finn, growing up there, but never really allowed in on business, not even to listen
Instead you were ordered to be quiet and focus on your studies
And you did, for a few years, slipping notes to John about what you thought would improve business, pressing your ear to the door to listen, putting up with being categorized as "one of the kids" with Finn
And then you made an announcement, one that almost killed Polly
You weren't going to university, and instead you'd be joining the family business
Your aunt put up a good fight, but your brothers were more than happy to welcome you, with rules of course
Ada wasn't too thrilled either, knowing how smart you were, and how special it was, but she wasn't going to stop you
Pol was, or at least she was going to try
"You could be anything you want y/n."
"And I choose this."
"You're-"
"Wasting my potential? So you've said."
You'd be more behind the scenes, working on the business side rather than the side with razors and guns
Your brothers were more than happy to hear that, though you'd gotten more than a few comments muttered by Pol
If you really wanted to, you could always be a doctor or a lawyer later in life, for now this is what you wanted most
You were finally part of your family
Within the first week, you have a full list of what could be improved and you're center stage in the family meeting
To say that was nerve wrecking was an understatement
Tommy had his doubts, of course, but John knew you'd been keeping their heads above water for a long time
"Go on then, you've got our attention."
You were the one they went to check over the books, the numbers, catching mistakes no one else did
It wasn't just spelling mistakes or addition issues, you were taking stock in inventory, in all the bullets that were wasted, the little things that went missing that no one seemed to notice
It didn't take long for you to work your way up, prove yourself not only to Tommy, but Pol too, showing her this wasn't a waste of your time
She's still not thrilled, but you're as stubborn as the rest, and she knows it's a losing battle
At least you're being smart with your work
Tommy made you check over every contract and agreement he made, making sure he didn't miss a single detail that would screw them over
He brought you to the races too, working out probability, though your math was shaky at best under that kind of pressure and uncertainty
You were the one counting the profits and losses too, weighing the options of whether or not to invest
You're really the only one who knows just how much the family makes
That is a dangerous thing in itself
You make friends quite easily
Not only can you speak an array of languages, bonding with everyone, but you've got that Shelby charm and good looks, too
You're quite popular, though your brothers constantly get in the way of any potential relationship
You're smart though, and not just for their gain, but yours too
If and when you're ready to date, you'll find a way
Alfie adores you
Tommy drives him mad, but he'd have you over any day
Not only does he love the fact that you can keep up with him, witty beyond belief, but your Hebrew is perfect
"So, you're the brains behind the whole operation?"
"Something like that."
You're brought along to a lot of in person deals
You pick up on things no one else does, remembering the littlest of things that can and will be weaponized if need be
Their kids and spouses names, the way they look at you, how they speak and carry themselves
It doesn't take long for you to know exactly who they are
"They're lying Tom. I know they are."
"How can you tell?"
"They look away when they answer, their eye twitches, and they always lean forward when they're saying something true."
"You got all that from a five minute conversation?"
You're not only their beloved little sibling, but the perfect weapon
They don't teach you how to use a gun, but you've been watching for years, making note of every tiny detail
When you do use a gun, which is inevitable, it's a perfect shot
Arthur and Tom insist you carry something with you, but you're fine sticking with a simple razor
The guns can stay with them. . . .
Not only does it come in handy with work, but your family, too
You pick up on the way Arthur escalates, talking him down before there's a full outburst
You know the nights Tommy does and doesn't sleep just by the sound of his voice, the way he signs his name
You know when to check up on Ada if she's not doing well after Freddies gone, even if no one else can see the hurt in her eyes
That's the thing everyone seems to forget, is that you're not only book smart, but people smart, too
Constantly making fun of your siblings right in front of them
"Pol, y/n's making fun of me!"
"I am not! You don't even speak Russian."
"No, but I can guess."
He'd never admit it to you, but Finn really is amazed by you
Ever since he was a kid he always looked up to you
School and homework and all that never came easy to him, and it lead to him giving up, so the fact that all of this comes so easy makes him proud to be your brother
"Y/n, curse in a language we all know or don't say it all."
Along with learning weapons along the way, you pick up on how to be a nurse, tending to whatever it needed
From your nieces and nephews scraped knees to bullet wounds
"Do not get blood on my new shirt!"
No one really suspects you to be listening or watching the way you do, so when they need it, you go "undercover"
Gaining the trust of the enemy, pretending to be a stranger that just so happens to get their attention as if you hadn't been figuring out what makes them tick, distracting them with drinks and small talk
If anything goes wrong, you picked up on how to get away, how to fight without getting too much attention, and not just by watching
With a memory like yours, there are some things you'd like to forget and can't
A lot of things do leave you with nightmares, with flashes of panic, with this dreadful feeling in your gut like you'd seen it all before
At one point or another you've called your siblings and aunt in the middle of the night, just to check up on them, see if they're okay
Begging your brothers to be more careful
They rarely ever listen though
"Is there anything you can't do?"
"I can't go on a date."
"Nope, not until you're forty."
"Come on Arthur, you can't scare them all away."
Despite all this, you're still treated like a child
Your siblings still see you as that smart little kid correcting their work and growing bored of even the most complicated things
No matter what you do or say, you'll always be small in their eyes

pairing: Heath Ledger Joker x Reader
word count: 1,336
warnings: language, violence (mentions of blood) and some sexual themes.
summary: short sentence prompts revolving around reader’s relationship with J.
notes: Hello! I wanted to share something different with you all this time, so I chose a prompt I have not done in a very long time. I used a random word generator to generate 50 words and I would write one or several sentences including and/or inspired by each individual word. If you would like to try out this prompt, visit this link for the random word generator I used. Please enjoy this fun little prompt I fulfilled with J in mind.
unedited.
Tumblr media
Quit
“I think I’m starting to get pretty good at this ‘committing heinous crimes and random acts of violence’ thing, aren’t I?” “uh-huh.” You fix him with a look of disbelief, to which J’s only response is, “don’t,ah, quit your day job, toots.”
Anger
The anger you feel doesn’t hold a torch to the rage within J every time that you disobey him.
Distance
The nights when you fall asleep next to J are the ones which make you feel miles apart.
Braid
You tentatively clutch the braided rope in your hands, wondering how long had it been beneath your bed and why J had hidden it there.
Steep
Being in a relationship with J is like trying to climb a mountain that is too steep for you to find any generous footing; if you cling too tightly, the surface gives way and you slide all the way back to rock bottom.
Quota
Guns are too quick, J reflects, but he’s got a quota to hit and so he reloads without another thought on the matter.
Bet
You would’ve bet that J would eventually have to sleep, but never would you have thought it would take this long.
Crystal
“No more blood on my sheets that isn’t mine or yours, J, do I make myself clear?”
“Mm…crystal.”
Hot
Blood oozes from the open cuts which litter your skin like tiny scratch marks and you wince in discomfort; nothing a hot bath, or tongue, can’t fix.
Moving
Imagining a life with J means taking into account the amount of times you’ll have to move to remain one step ahead of the Gotham Police Department.
Biscuit
J trying to stuff several biscuits into his mouth at once inspires you to make a mental note never to bake him any ever again.
Nonsense
You could not make heads or tails of some of the things J tells you and you wonder if perhaps it really isall nonsenseand there’s no ultimate meaning behind any of it at all.
Scene
Most days, you refuse to turn on your television for fear of another crime scene making its way onto your screen; you always know who’s to blame.
Bubble
The color of blood has always been J’s favorite and he has to concentrate not to smile fondly as the warm, sticky liquid bubble’s from his victim’s throat.
Possibility
When you were younger and more naïve, you used to believe in life’s endless possibilities, however, life on the run with Gotham’s most wanted criminal only has one viable outcome.
Basket
You follow the trail of dark red droplets all the way to your bedroom and the sight that meets you is enough to make you drop the basket of clean clothes you were carrying.
Literacy
J often leaves notes behind on the little doodles he scatters throughout your home. The first one you ever kept was written after he begrudgingly watched a nature documentary with you, inspiring him to leave a drawing and a note scrawled across the margins of the morning newspaper: ‘I hate bees’.
Step
To step up against J was to end your own life; even though you are still breathing, today is the day that you have officially died.
Distort
Your relationship with him was about as distorted as J’s grip on reality, but that was what made you love him the most.
Brown
J’s brown eyes contain the only bit of humanity within him.
Light
J’s face is illuminated by the flames, his stark white face paint glowing a pale orange by cause of the dying embers, and the sight makes you wonder what elsehe is keeping from you?
Beat
Should anyone lift a finger against you, J would not hesitate to deliver a beating they might never recover from.
Commitment
Much to your chagrin, the only thing that J is committed to is his work.
Patience
It might take some time for you to warm up to the idea of sharing a house (and a bed) with Gotham’s most notorious criminal, but J knows he can wait you out.
Shower
It’s the first time he’s had a shower in weeks and J’s expression remains indifferent as the water visibly grows darkin color from the grime that rinses off his body.
Preference
It is true that J has no preferences when it comes to who he is sleeping with, but he would be damned if you didn’t check all the boxes he would have had if he’d been anyone else.
Fool
Perhaps it was foolish of you to think that J could muster emotion of any depth in association to you.
Knock
You could have lived with polite knocking, but whenever J returns home it sounds like he’s about to break the door down.
Curl
J’s body encircles you, curling protectively around yours as you embrace each other in the pale lamplight.
Protection
Under J’s protection, you throw caution to the wind and allow him to do what he does best; you would never have daredto walk the streets of Gotham by night, yet now you travelled them carelessly under cover of darkness beneath the ever-watchful eye of your ever-present bodyguard.
Sow
“Ever since you came into my life, I’ve had nothing but bad days!” “Ya…reap what ya sow, huh, doll?”
Key
You gave J a key, but he somehow manages to get inside your house without ever using it.
Film
J doesn’t ever utter the ‘I love you’ words, but without fail does he watch every film you’ve ever picked even if it does not interest him; actions speak louder than words and in this case, you never would have needed him to say a word.
Digital
You really would’ve liked to know why J had such strong opinions about digital clocks.
Short
The first time J snaps at you for coming a bit too close when he’s in a foul mood shows you just how short of a fuse he has.
Second
A second’s glimpse gave you the impression that there is more beneath the surface of J’s hardened exterior.
View
“Quite a plea-sing view, ain’t it, doll?” J asks as you both admire the burning building.
Depression
You never see the side of J that is tender except on the days when it all becomes too much and you physically cannot get out of bed.
Check
Ever since J had come into your life, you have not felt the need to check underneath your bed and inside your closet before climbing into your bed.
Shelf
J intentionally puts everything you need on a high shelf and won’t ever retrieve it for you when you ask.
Switch
A switch to the other side gave you a taste of sweet adrenaline and you finally understood why J loved the chaos.
Trap
Every word you utter becomes another bar in the cage he traps you in and throws away the key; you cannot win an argument with J.
Damn
That damned clown is going to kill you, either out of love born from you’re your own misguided emotional ties to him or with a gun to the head in the middle of the night; you did not care which.
Relinquish
J will never relinquish control even if his life depends on it and, sometimes, it does.
Delete
You wish that removing emotions is as easy as pressing ‘delete’ on your keyboard, but nothing in life is that easy and J is determined to teach you that.
Incentive
Watching you undress in front of him was morethan enough of an incentive to keep J in line for now.
Swallow
“It ain’t polite to play with your food, sweets,” J growls, a smirk of superiority on his face as he watches you finally swallow your mouthful.
Relief
You are unable to express the amount of relief you feel on the night J returns from yet another unexplained period of extended absence.
Front
He puts up a good front, but you are aware of how much it bothers J every time they call him ‘crazy’.
Adventure
Sharing a life with J is a daily adventure and you never know what direction it will lead.

MY LITTLE PONY: A NEW GENERATION (G5 Movie) THOUGHTS
It’s finally here. The beginning of Generation 5. Though before I get into the movie in some detail I’m going to reiterate one more time what G5 means for my content and a non-spoilery summary of the movie.
Again, I will say that the movie nor will the G5 series coming later have much of an effect at all on any of my blogs. The revelation in Secrets of the Dragon’s Tear that life itself is also magic means that a world that implied to have no magic for years would mean the extinction of all life (Perhaps resulting in the wasteland we saw in the Season 5 finale). There may be something I’ll probably do at some point on a certain different blog. But even then, that may likely be a one-time thing and probably come around the time the series is starting to air.
That said, just because I’m continuing with mainly G4 content doesn’t mean I disapprove of G5. In fact, my non-spoilers thoughts on the movie is I think it is a good start for this new generation. There are questions I have that I’m not sure will be answered (Though many of those questions are the same ones I had in my Trailer/Preliminary thoughts) quickly enough. But the movie is structured well enough, in fact it’s probably a better movie as a whole compared to any of the movies G4 had (The 2017 movie, Rainbow Roadtrip, and all 4 Equestria Girls movies). As the 2017 movie was fun, but it jumped around a lot, sometimes scenes transitioning too fast. And while Rainbow Roadtrip may have been this on purpose, the entirely slice-of-life story taking up a long length… made it something of a less interesting plot to follow. It feels like some of that special could of been cut to at least a two-parter length and keep the same beats they hit. And while i have a soft spot for the 3rd and 4th Equestria Girls movies, I’ll always say a full-length pony adventure feels better suited for what I want to see out of MLP then spin-off movies with high school movie cliches and weird pony/human world shenanigans.
So movie-wise I’m not a G4 purist. It’ll take some time to see how Gen 5 compares to Friendship is Magic when we get to the series. As I feel it’d take a lot for it to surpass G4 in my mind. But I’m going to try to be as fair as possible and judge on it’s own merits. The implied connection to G4 by referring to G4 being ancient Equestria is going to naturally get the staff and hasbro pressured by fans to tell us what happened in-between the generations. Because that’s the trap they put the writers in when they made it so they want to try to say it’s in the same universe. That’s the double-edged sword Hasbro chose to have, trying to appease the G4 fanbase and keep at least some of them around. But at the cost of questions both nitpicky (Such as character design being inconsistent) or actual honest questions that need to be known (Why did magic disappear, and what happened to the Alicorns) for some of us to truly see this as the same Equestria.
After the break, I’ll have more spoilery thoughts
Even for a brief moment, it was nice seeing the Mane 6 and 2D animation. The former because of course those are the ponies many of us that saw all of G4 loved. And the latter, because while the animation wasn’t bad in this movie. I’m one of those who’d prefer to have 2D animation in an animated film. As in most cases aside from Pixar, it’s just a strong preference of mine. If this had the animation of the 2017 MLP movie but otherwise everything else was generally the same here, I feel that would of have been great.
I wish they didn’t have to have Sunny’s dad die off-screen, as he seems like he could of been a compelling character. And not to mention if perhaps he has any connection the “ancient” days in any fashion. But *sigh* I get it, it’s an old trope where part of the character’s offscreen growth is not having their parent(/s) around.
On a side note there’s quite a few times during the beginning of the movie that somewhat foreshadow what happens to Sunny later. 3 times where she had a fake horn and wings on her. Once in the flashback, then 2 separate times when she’s doing her protest where she has her own costumed wings and horn. As well as the helmet and mechanical wings.
Also, there’s no way around it. Some of the discussions this movie are going to get quite political. (Namely one part of Sunny’s song that could be seen as having a double meaning of a jab at Trumpsts regarding “Building your wall”) From the very premise in the early times, we know that the inspiration for the story was last year’s Black Lives Matter protests. Which honestly, I do support the message they’re going for. Having an anti-racism message to tell kids from the very beginning and making a focus on it is important when in G4 it only got briefly touched upon in Bridle Gossip and the Heath’s Warming Eve play. Although it certainly rose up to some form of prominence with Season 8 and onward. Still, while you can argue if G4 executed the anti-racism message well. it does come with something of a problem that the series finale left Equestria in the least divided it’s ever been.
And personally, I feel it’s a terrible interpretation of time to say “Well, it’s a realistic take. Racism has existed for years in our world. Same should go for the ponies” and while yes, racism is still rampant in today’s world. That said, that ignores that if we went from The Last Problem to the start of G5. There’s a huge difference between our world and Equestria. There is no ancient civilization that we look at like “Yeah, those were the golden days of world peace” when normally the “Golden age” was reserved for the high classes of Ancient Greece or Rome. It was most decidedly not perfect, with slavery rampant and wars for the sake of expanding an empire. While if you look at The Last Problem’s Equestria, you not only have peace between the three main types of ponies. But you literally have non-pony citizens in Equestria. You can see a dragon handing off a flower to a pony which can imply cross-species romantic relations. With the Friendship school still going strong, and was the reason that the world was saved in The Ending of the End. While perhaps it may be too glowing to say that future is perfect for everyone even in-universe. It’s certainly a hell of a lot better outlook then comparing to how we view even the so called Golden age of ancient civilizations. The Last Problem’s Equestria implies it looks to ally with every country outside of Equestria, not conquer them.
So it should still be a valid question on just how this world collapses to the point it gets to where G5 is at the start. I at least assume that it’s not the fault at all of any of the Mane 6 nor Twilight. Or at least I hope it isn’t, as I’d rather the MLP fanbase not have to deal with a The Last Jedi Luke Skywalker situation. (Where after the joyful end of the original trilogy, things go wrong as Luke almost murders the son of one of his best friends and his sister despite trying to hard and succeeding at redeeming his father who at that point in the canon was a galaxy-wide known ruthless mass-murderer.) I assume we’re at a point where everyone of the Mane 6 sans maybe Twilight are presumed dead. And even in Twilight’s case, there’s a chance that G5 decides to say that G4 overestimated the whole Alicorn immortality thing. Though I wouldn’t put it past Hasbro to have some event where the Mane 5 of G5 meet the Mane 6 in some special event whether that’s a a Season finale or a sequel movie/special. Where either the Mane 6 return in a limbo situation similar to the Pillars at the end of Season 7 or Time travel gets involved. They may even string us along on answering just what in the heck happened until they involve a meet-up with the Mane 6 in that way. Though I hope they don’t, I’d really like the beginning of the series (Or I guess this supposed special coming up in Spring supposedly?) starts to answer some questions. G5 should get a chance to stand on it’s own, but I hope the writers are actually well aware there will be so many questions people have and address them in the show. A cynical part of me feels like they’re likely to string us along until at least the Season 1 finale.
Onto the characters for a bit. I think Izzy Moonbow was absolutely the most stand-out character in the whole movie. She was energetic, funny, and aside from “The pegasi are bad news” she along with Zipp and Sunny were the most averse to the way the world was. She was already the most popular due to the tennis ball memes. But now it feels like she legit stands on her own and most certainly deserves to be the most popular character of G5 thus far. Behind her in a bit of a surprise to me was Zipp, who I thought would be mainly a Rainbow Dash-expy. Though she really helps out Izzy and Sunny in Zephyr Heights. Despite having Twilight be my favorite pony from the very beginning of G4 all the way to the end, I didn’t feel as strongly about Sunny for some reason. So she’s in the middle of the pack, she could grow on me later. I just don’t know if I click with her as much as I did with Twilight. As for the last two, while I don’t hate either of them. Either one could be the lowest of the 5 for one reason or another. Pipp (Although I will say she's probably my favorite character design out of the 5) feels like she doesn’t do a whole lot in the movie and it takes until she’s forced to be an outlaw because the other choice was to get imprisoned like her mother was. So she may come off as quite pretentious, though it’s arguable Rarity was the same way early in G4. But she definitely grew later. Could be the same case for Pipp. And as for Hitch, he has shining moments in the film. But what might hurt him is the fact he was such a bad friend to Sunny up until the campfire scene. “I’m the last real friend you have. You really want to lose me too?” is not a healthy friendship. Hitch may have been Sunny’s friend the longest, but it definitely feels like Izzy connected immediately. I don’t know if this show will get into shipping any of the main characters between each other mid-show, but if they do. I hope it’s between Izzy and Sunny currently, cause Hitch and Sunny just gives bad vibes even with Hitch getting better later.
None of the songs I felt were particularly too special. Though I think the closest was Sprout’s “Danger, Danger” song that has similarities to Smells Like Teen Spirit in some parts of the song since I tend towards more rock/metal-esque music.
I touched upon it earlier, but there’s perhaps a stand-out reason for why the G5 movie outdid the 2017 MLP Movie. They have the typical “Our heroic group splits after a sad moment before coming together again for the climatic good end” in Sunny seeing that that the two crystals don’t instantly bring magic back, and when Twilight left the group after an argument that happened with Twilight trying to take a pearl. They perform the same purpose in the movie. But the crystals not working, crushing Sunny’s hope for a little while works better into the story. Where as Twilight’s part frustratingly brought the sea pony scene to an end too quickly and/or doesn’t feel right of Twilight to have done that. It felt forced in the 2017 movie, but works out in the G5 movie. Especially since a part of it is that it’s not the crystals themselves capable of bringing magic back. But it’s the journey going after the crystals that brings the ponies themselves their magic back.
Just a small note on dictator Sprout, he tries to cause a war. Though admittedly the film seems to treat him as a joke the entire time despite his seriously evil ambitions. With the only repercussions is he gets a wishy-washy answer on if he was a good sheriff from his mom. I don’t quite know how I feel about that yet, but I wonder what they’ll have in mind for Sprout given his actions. He and his mom are the only ones that feel like a true antagonist. Though they seem to be ok with things fast when the magic comes back.
But anyway on to the ending, we see that Sunny becomes an Alicorn. Which I guess with no other real Alicorns around, I guess it makes sense to alicornify her since she’s the real leader behind what united the leaders of each type of pony again. Though there is of course this weird thing where her horn and wings don’t seem like as much a part of her body compared to very obvious connected wings on Twilight when she got hers. Sunny keeps her horn and wings to the end of the movie, and has colored streaks in her hair. Though I do wonder if that;s truly permanent. If it is permanent, I suppose at least they got to have a headstart and have it established at the end of the introductory movie rather then have it shock people at the end of a shortened 3rd season. I still feel like Twilight had well earned her alicornhood considering that besides what she did in the series. She has a whole childhood and time as a teenager learning under Celestia. Which had to mean something, and I’m not sure Celestia just leaving her to live the rest of her days with her friends in ponyville was that. Sunny has no doubt been trying countless time to try to spread friendship throughout her life even after the tragedy of her father’s passing. So there’s no doubt she’s been through a lot, and may indeed be worthy of being an Alicorn at this point. Though in terms of screentime before Alicornhood it's definitely a lot less then Twilight had. And it is at least nice to see that it is possible for non-unicorns to become one. (The only case of that we sort of got was a children's book that may or may not be canon that implied Cadence was a pegasus before she ascended)
Though you have to wonder if the visual differences such as Sunny’s alicorn horn and wings, the cutie mark only on one side (Yes I know that’s how it was normally in the MLP generations before G4. But a distinct visual difference between shows is still noticeable even if the context of G4’s cutie marks on both sides of the flank was about it being easier on the puppets for Flash), and how animals can have wings or weird round shapes such as those bunnies when G4 has normal looking animals. There’s enough striking visual differences for any nitpicky G4 to say “This isn’t the same Equestria”. And if someone tries to say maybe some sort of evolution happened. That’s still trying to put a little too much real world logic on this fantasy world. And evolution tends to take millions of years to have such dramatic changes. Not 1000 years or so, there should still be normal looking animals at this point and time. And these small details are probably going to be the things most ignored but nonetheless can build a case that this isn’t the same Equestria. Even if they touch on the important questions like how magic disappeared and what happened to the Mane 6, there will be details they make different that will add to the case that this is it’s own universe if it doesn’t quite matchup with what was remembered about G4. There will be fans who will be that nitpicky to call G5 out of continuity for small details like that. That is again the trap they put themselves in when they decided to try to say it’s the same Equestria.
All-in-all though, I think that’s at least a good enough chunk about my thoughts on the movie to end off here. If there’s something I missed or something from the movie you’d like me to give a particular opinion about or elaborate on something feel free to ask me here. G5 is indeed off to a good start, just I will be along the many hoping some questions get answered sooner then later. And I’m not sure I’m confident in getting anywhere until a Season finale or a 2nd movie. And it’ll be a year before the series starts proper (Though again I guess there’s a 44 minute special coming in Spring to try to hold us over). But I could definitely see G5 finding it's own following, now there's just the inevitable clashes between some of the more vocal fans of each generation bickering at eachother. But hoping there will be enough that take the movie's lessons on divisiveness to heart and be able to enjoy both even if there may be preferences.

Buy me a drink and let me tell you why I need it
Authors note
Thank you very much for the request    @caelys I had fun writing it and actually I thought about modern!au John way too much. Like I made a model for his apartment and a playlist and I could possibly draw ten more fan arts of him.
It takes place in a modern setting, but it starts before John goes to the military. He and Tommy still work in the Garrison, besides some other shadier jobs. Arthur is a car mechanic or something like that. Ada still goes to school and Finn too. Polly and Michael are not mentioned here.
Female reader x bartender!John BIG PUNK VIBES HERE!
Actually, this was going to be a multi-chapter fic with intense slow-burn, but whatever there it is. Just say one thing and I’ll write a second part!

The garrison was not a pub for everyone. It was full of gangsters and other low-life scum. A woman was a curiosity. Working there wasn’t pleasant, but John didn’t complain.
It was the only legal job he got after graduating. He worked at the Garrison twice a week, usually on Friday and Saturday.
The nice thing about this work was the free beer and he could make as many cigarette breaks as he liked.
Nevertheless, John was a little pissed that night, because he could see his friends drinking over there and he had to stand behind the counter. Tommy’s orders!
“Fuck off, Tommy”, he mumbled while cleaning bar. Of course, his brother didn’t hear that, he was busy making some phone calls. John didn’t want to know, who Tommy was calling or why. Probably their next job.
But while he was still on the first one, he didn’t want to think about more work. He already had enough. It was past ten and John hadn’t eaten for hours.
At first, he was to occupied from his work to notice you. You sat down at the bar and cleared your throat. It wasn’t on purpose or to get the bartenders attention. Actually, you just wanted your peace. You hated being trapped in your new apartment, while everything was still so empty. Since you moved, so much changed in your life, but you still felt lonely.
That’s why, you walked straight into the nearest pub, when you couldn’t bear the weight of your own thoughts. But now you realized you hadn’t a penny left. Or at least not enough for a beer. “Get me a glass of water please.”, you said to the bartender, who kept starring at you. First you thought he was a little weird and also a little intimidating, but then you understood what he expected from you. An order, of course.
“A glass of water?”, he asked with a grin on his face: “Really? You know, where you are, girl?”
Now you looked confused. Maybe there was an unspoken rule, to not order a soft drink in this place, but how you should know? After all, you’ve been pretty new to Small Heath. Three days ago you moved into your new place. It was small, but it was yours. Your private space and your sanctuary. “A pub… maybe?”, you joked: “So what about the water?”
“Ah, I get it… It’s the end of month.”, he responded.
You laughed and shook your head. “I’m always broke. Money is not my thing.”
“Not mine either.”
Now he got your attention. You took a closer look at the bartender. He was somehow handsome. A pretty face for a fucked-up place like this. Then you noticed the tattoos on his arms, that peaked out of the sleeves of his shirt. “Dead Kennedys. Nice”, you mumbled and smiled slightly, barely visible.
He put a filled glass in front of you and smirked. “No need to pay.”
Your eyes widened. That bartender really surprised you. He was nicer than he looked like. You took a sip from the glass and nodded. “Thanks… I guess.”
The water was okay, but everything you wished for was a beer or a whiskey. Something to stop your brain from thinking. However, you nipped the glass very patiently, because you didn’t want to leave this place too soon. You didn’t know the neighborhood and chances were high, you got lost on your way around town.
The bartender seemed to notice your tension. “Do you want to drink something else?”
“A beer would be nice.” You croaked
The handsome man behind the bar nodded and pulled out a pint. “A beer, it is.”
You didn’t know it yet, but you were the only thing tonight, that made his work bearable. Everything else was so boring and you were new in town. Every little thing about you was so exciting for him. Staring with the fact that you stumbled into the Garrison without knowing its reputation. Then your little comment about his shirt, yes, he heard that. And your overall appearance was just the cherry on top.
The leather jacket, the ripped jeans and your washed-out Kurt Cobain shirt said a lot about you and John was ready to listen. What else should he do in the next couple of hours until his shift ended?
“I’m John.”, he said and served you a beer.
You noticed the twinkle with his eye and replied with a shy smile. “Just call me Y/n”
The two of you shook hands and exchanged a strange glance. Was he flirting with you? No, of course not, you brushed it off. It was part of his job, to be nice to his customers.
After a few sips of your beer, you calmed down a bit, but not enough. You fumbled in the inside pocket of your jacket for your package. You smoked Dunhill and probably started way to early in life. An end of your smoking addiction was not in sight. The package was already half empty, when you opened it.
“Fuck” you cursed and signed. How could you make it to your next pay check with just a few cigarettes left? Maybe skip dinner a few times.
“Cigarettes are empty too?” he asked “I would give you one of mine, but they are empty too.”
“No, I still have some left, but not enough until July. Maybe not even enough for the rest of this night.”, you explained.
You took two out of the package and put it back. “Want one? I don’t have money, but at least I still have something to smoke.”
“Whatcha smoking?” “Dunhill”, you answered.
A wide grin appeared on his face. “Me too.”
“I know, I shouldn’t… but I just can’t quit.” You shrugged and lit your cigarette.
John brushed it off. “Fuck em. I think, I’m never gonna quit too. This shit just stays with you forever.”
“True”, you signed and took a deep drag from your cigarette.
“So… why am I the only girl in this place? Is there something I should know?”
“Nah, not really. It’s just…”, he began to explain, but then paused to smoke. You liked how he leaned against the counter. Like there was no cooler person in this room. “I don’t know… most women don’t like it here. Too filthy or whatever.”
You nodded and looked around. Everything smelled like ashtray and whiskey. There was dirt lying around. Nobody seemed to bother, so you chose not to either.
“And you are new in Birmingham?”, he asked: “All the locals know to stay away from this place.”
Again, you nodded and hid your smile behind your hand. “I just grabbed my bass and some clothes and left.”
“Bass?” Now, John was hooked. Since he could walk and talk, he had a thing for music. Especially rock and punk and he blabber about his favorite bands all day. Of course, he never learned to play an instrument, because his family was too poor, but he stole every record he could lay hands on. “You play bass?”
“Yeah, I can also play guitar, but I sold mine to get here. I started playing in a band now and I really hope this is going to work out… somehow.”, you explained
“Maybe.”, he said: “I can ask Harry, if you can play here. Live music would be great.”
You beamed and jumped almost over the counter. “Really?”
“But I need to listen to a song first. Otherwise, I can’t do it with good conscience.”
“Yeah, sure thing! When I get the promo tape, I’ll come back here.” Finally, some good news for you. After all you went though you really needed that and right now you just couldn’t stop smiling.
Three beers later, you were already in an in-depth discussion about music and which bands paved the way for punk.
After six more beers, you danced to the song he put on. John watched you with the purest joy. Nobody has ever danced in the Garrison. Good for him, that Tommy left, because “something important” occurred.
On beer twelve you sang for all the man to watch. The Shelby just could take his eyes off you, even when you didn’t hit the right tone.
He even caught you, when you fell over the counter.
But in the end the bar had to close and you still had nowhere to go, so you waited for him to finish his work. It took twice as long, because John kept staring at you in awe.
After everything was done, he asked, if he should walk you home and you agreed. Actually, you didn’t say yes, you hugged him and rubbed your cheek against his. Then you made a purring sound and told him your address.
You even hold hands with him, but that was mainly, because you were to drunk to walk straight. But you had plenty of time to sober up along the way.
Finally arriving at the front door, you had to stop laughing and catch a breath to manage to say something. “Do you…”, you began and paused, because you didn’t know how to phrase it.
Without hesitation he answered: “Yes! Yes… I mean, it would be cool.”
And again, you started laughing. “I was about to ask, if you want to watch the stars on my rooftop, but I didn’t know you were going to be so excited about this.”
He scratched his neck and chuckled. “Yeah, we were talking about the same thing.”
“Oh honey, I’m taken”, you explained
That last three words crumbled his hopes, that have been build up since you walked into the Garrison.
But he was a gentleman and he shouldn’t expect anything from a woman. After all, you don’t owe him anything. Even though he thought you were flirting with him the entire night.
He just bit his lip and shrugged. “No problem here.”
Then he added: “But we might not see the stars though all the smog and light pollution.”
“Let’s give it a try.” you opened the door and smiled.
You took the steps up to your apartment, John followed you closely. When the two of you entered the small flat, everything was still dark. The alarm clock next to your mattress said four in the morning.
John was so curious, when he looked around. “You really didn’t lie, when you said, you just took you bass and nothing more.”
“Yup”, you mumbled and walked to a pile of clothes. “Do you want to smoke one with me?”
When you pulled out the joint, John grinned at you. His cheeks were still red. “Why not?”
Climbing out of your window and onto the roof sounded way easier than it turned out to be.
But the view was great, and that was enough.
You lit the joint and inhaled the white smoke, just to blow it out again.
“No stars in sight, babe”, he noted while looking up
He was right, but you were still glad, that he came up here with you. You feared the moment of being alone again. “Yes, but the view… is amazing.”
You didn’t notice, he was glaring at you when he said: “Yeah, it really is.”
Then you turned to him to pass him the joint.
John took one drag and coughed. “That shit’s strong.”
At first you tried not to laugh, but ended up giggling anyway.
“What?”, he asked with blunt curiosity.
When you calmed down, you had to tell him the joke that just crossed your mind: “I like my weed like my sex… keeps me paralyzed for a while.”
That was the last thing he thought he would hear from you. He would believe his ears, if he hadn’t starred at your lips the entire time. “Uhm, okay.”, he whispered and hit the joint one more time.
The longer you sat there with him, the more comfortable you two got. After talking the whole night about music and artists and stuff, you finally opened up.
You told him why you left your home town and moved to Birmingham.
And he told you in return something you would have expected either. “Just a few more months and I’ll be in the military.”
John didn’t look like a soldier or somebody who took pride in defending his country. You couldn’t understand, how a wonderful guy like him ended up serving the forces. It just didn’t seem to fit in. But then again, you knew him for a few hours now, so who are you to judge?
“I’m scared”, he whispered: “that nobody but my family will write me… and I’m going to be all alone in the middle of nowhere.”
That feeling was all too familiar for you. Your heart ached, when you glared at him. “I write you.”, you promised. “And phone you and what else.”
“You would?” His voice was full of doubt. “We don’t know each other really.”
It was true, but you always kept your promises. You moved closer to him, to hold his hand and look him in the eyes. “I would. I know this feeling too well.”
For one second you thought he was going to kiss you, and you were ready. The drumroll played, like it always did, when the first touch of two pairs of lips, unknown to each other, was close. But the drumroll was all you were going to get tonight. You kept staring at his beautiful mouth and how would it feel, when his lips meet yours. Infidelity has never been your thing and you would stay true to yourself, even when the chance was so tempting.
“Can you hold me?”, you asked, while avoiding his eyes. You felt pathetic for being so needy in front of a stranger, so you added: “Just for a while.”
John didn’t answer. He didn’t have to. Instead, he just pulled you in arms and stroke your back.
The two of you felt all alone in this broken world, but right there you met and became friends. What a weird thing to happen.
