Characters do not have to be redeemable.
I'm so, so sick of people absolutely trashing media and characters because they never get reformed or redeemed or become 'good.'
That's the whole fucking point, sometimes. That that character is bad. Characters who are genuinely, down to the bone, rotten to the core bad are part of the narrative too. They're valid too.
You're meant to hate them. You're meant to think of them as awful, evil people, because they are.
Narrative and story and development you disagree with doesn't inherently mean its bad or wrong.
Characters who balance between good and evil and ultimately choose evil are not storytelling failures. They're a narrative and story in their own right. They had the choice. They chose evil. That's the story. That's the narrative.
Media is predictable enough as it is. Pigeon-holing it even further by dictating that characters can't simply be bad or become bad is not the solution.

It's not caused by any recent situation, I've been thinking about it for a long time now but I have some things to say about fic writing.
Being a fic writer in a fandom might be the most ungrateful "job" in the community. I have lots of gif maker friends and I make mediocre gifs myself so I will compare these two a lot but I want to make it clear I don't want to say fic writers are more important or suffer more or anything like that because I value gif makers more than you can imagine.
– First of all, the whole cringe status around fic writing – especially x reader fanfics – is awful. I often see posts that whine about the fact that these fics even exist. People don't think twice, they just hit "post" and in result they are shaming other people for having innocent and creative hobbies. We spend real time of our real lives writing fics we love for ourselves but also for other people's enjoyment. For free. I really don't want to see posts about how cringe and silly fic writers are just because someone thinks they're superior in a fandom. It's a fucking Tumblr. Also, would you say the same about a person drawing fan art? I don't think so.
– I know there are some gifsets that take literally weeks to make but in most cases fic writing takes more time to create and at the same time it takes more time to consume. It's easy to hit a like or a reblog button under a gifset that you consumed in under a minute just like it's easy to ignore a fanfic because consuming it would take you more time. It's understandable but at the same time, if you read fanfics, reblog them at least. Leave some sort of feedback. Even one word or a reaction image. It really means a lot... And, once again, the lack of reblogs bothers gif makers as well, but I think in the case of fic writing it's mostly caused because y'all ashamed of admitting that you read these fics. Like who the fuck cares? It's not Facebook, no one here knows who you really are, who the fuck cares?
– Speaking of reactions under fics. Being like "Part Two" is considered to be extremely rude. We are not AI bots and we certainly won't force ourselves to write a second part because you demanded it without even commenting on the work itself or hitting a reblog button. If "Part Two" is all you have to say, then it's better to stay quiet.
– Also, readers who comment rudely under fics written for free like ??? So what he's out of character? So what he's a sad little meow meow in the movie but a ray of sunshine in this fic? You are not being forced to read it and there's a whole community of people preferring fluff to angst. If some fic is not your type, just ignore it. I guarantee you, there are other fics that are your type and if there are not, you're welcome to start writing yourself. I've also seen people starting dramas about some details in the smut fics. Like Jesus fucking Christ... Go touch some grass.
– What hurts the most is the prejudice from other content makers. I've seen some posts hating on/mocking fic writers that are coming from gif makers themselves. We're all on the same boat, we create fan art for the media we love. Why do we have to bring each other down? I am aware of the problem of gif stealing in the fic writing community but it mostly is caused by the fact these people don't know how to properly credit gifs with the gif tool. Believe me, most of the fic writers have a huge respect for the gif makers and I wish it went the other way around as well, even if you don't read fanfics, you don't have to be rude about people who do.
– Fan fiction writers are not desperate ugly teenagers locked in their parents' basement. Some of them are mothers, some of them have PhDs, some of them are doctors, some of them are just simple people who want to relax after a stressful day. The same things y'all be thinking of fic writers can be said about any content maker on this site because they also spend hours in front of a computer making fan arts or gifs of their favorite characters.

x reader should be (and, generally speaking, often is) the most accepting fanfiction space because its consistently, and almost exclusively an expression or fantasy of being desired or wanted or wanting—or in an even more basic sense, considered. even if you dont explicitly self-insert, even if there’s a an oc thats just you but better or a faceless insert u make - it starts with the same premise. which is wanting to be seen or desired by some extension of who you are. or wanting to fantasize explicitly about a life that isn’t yours, any life but yours. its admitting more openly than other mediums—i want someone to want some part of me. to take interest in me sexually or romantically or platonically. i want this element of myself to be considered or thought of. sometimes that is accomplished through writing, and sometimes that is accomplished through reading and seeking to bits of yourself in other peoples. the other half is having space to want and yearn for something else. how liberating it is to admit that you’d like to be somewhere else.
and it is hardly a flawless medium and im really, really simplifying it but i do think that there is something uniquely enjoyable and freeing about it. i want agency in the stories i love. i want my presence to haunt this fiction like a ghost. i want to be loved, i want to be interesting. i want to experience hundreds of lives that aren’t mine. i want i want i want. this a story of you. this is a story of me.

strawberry: before getting together, how did your F/O realize they had a crush on you? How did they act around you once they realized they were head over heels?
(To answer this question properly, I must explain how I've loved Wonka since 2013, but was obviously too young to self-ship with him back then, so I didn't start self-shipping with him until I met him again in 2024. I loved this man so much that I was willing to spit in the face of my introversion and get up on a freaking stage just to be in the play.)
In our self-ship, Wonka and I have known each other for a long time, but nothing romantic developed until late into our friendship. It was a very slow process of getting to know and care for each other, neither of us catching on to the change in our behavioral patterns and how we both learned to open up to each other enough to be willing to trust another person, which is very uncharacteristic of both of us.
When we reconnected later in life, we both were able to explore the possibility of a romantic relationship and it just became what it is. Wonka is naturally very charming and charismatic, yet is skilled in hiding his true intentions, so there wasn't much telling that he was in love. His one tell is with how trusting he became and how generous he was with himself. He doesn't open up to others easily and when he was doing so with me, that was a dead giveaway to how he felt.

cherry vanilla: how does your F/O show their affection for you?
By being open and trusting, mostly. However, gentle caresses and idle touches are also a common occurrence. If he's walking by me, he'll put his hand on my back. The back of his hand brushes mine when we're standing close by.
He's more cuddly and affectionate in private.
He likes to snuggle in bed every night, his favorite part of doing so is having the opportunity to talk to me and being comfortable enough to be vulnerable, which is difficult for him.
key lime: how would you describe your self-ship’s aesthetic?

raspberry swirl: how does your F/O cheer you up when you are feeling down?
If I'm feeling down, he will either let me vent or give me gentle advice and words of comfort, depending on what I'm needing in the moment. He is very intuitive and can tell when there's something that I need to hear or be told versus when he just needs to provide a listening ear. There will also be lots of hugs given and perhaps a sweet treat or two.

Valentine's Day is a special day for us. Not just because it is an important day for business, but because Wonka always makes time for us to spend as much of the day together as he can. All holidays are the same since we got together. Before our relationship began, he would work on holidays because he was alone. However, now our holidays are centered around quiet time in each other's company.
key lime: how would you describe your self-ship’s aesthetic?
It is nearly impossible to put it into words, so here are some photos from the film that show our aesthetic as I imagine it. Some of these really make his factory look like a liminal space.
blue moon: is your F/O very routine-oriented or do they like to go with the flow? How routine-oriented are you?
Wonka is a bit of both. He has his routines, mostly because his job demands it. Running a large-scale business model requires that some things fall within a regimented schedule, otherwise there would be too much room for error to occur.
However, Wonka is naturally a very spontaneous and passionate creator and inventor, so that aspect always is very impulsive. He invents when he is inspired and will stop in the middle of things just tot purge a new idea from his brain, bringing it to life before he forgets what it was.
His personal life and routine suffers a bit because he is mostly focused on creating and running his business. He eats whenever he has time and doesn't spend much time just relaxing. His mind is fully-functional practically twenty-four hours a day, so he doesn't settle as often as he probably should.
When his life allows for routine, he sticks to it regimentally, however, that is very rarely the case.
red velvet: what is your favorite food to bake with your F/O?
I headcanon that, like a true candy-maker, Wonka knows how to make candy by hand. Machinery is necessary though since he is selling on such a large scale, but he loves to show off his knowledge and skill and makes candy quite often so that he doesn't get too out of practice.
He loves to make hard candies and uses lots of really beautiful antique molds so that the candies are formed into beautiful patterns and shapes.
He loves to show me how to use the taffy puller and how to add the food coloring, use the cooling table properly, how to tell at what temperature the candy is at the right consistency for shaping, cutting, molding, etc.

Candy-making is just such a beautiful art and I could watch someone do this for hours.

Hi there!, I read that you didn't feel comfortable with going out to parties and drinking alcohol, well, I don't enjoy it either, in my case I can hopefully stand children's parties (if they aren't playing with balloons to burst them) In my case it is because I am neurodivergent, even so I prefer to be at home with a cup of coffee or milk. Don't feel bad at all, honey!
