Listen I like every (in)sane bisexual will automatically diagnose a character as bi too but I take such a firm stance that Eddie Diaz is GAY not bi like flat out gay because the references are THERE IN CANON like the comp-het language, the panic attacks, the therapy that can explain him working through it suddenly on screen, the explanation of a catholic and traditional household/ father
ITS THERE AND ITS GAY AND IT SPELLS OUT NOT ATTRACTED TO WOMEN IN THE LEAST
Now listen would I be satisfied if they just confirm him queer? Of course no doubt about it
But would it be a complete missed opportunity to actually represent a character that complex?
Who is what is automatically considered masculine and who is a father and an ex soldier and firefighter and who grew up in a catholic household with a traditional father and who got married too young because he got a girl pregnant and that was what was expected of him, had genuine feelings (regardless of what type or what mixed emotions) for his wife and does still mourn her while unlearning a lifetime of repression and allowing himself to accept in his 30s the fact that he is gay?
Yes absolutely no argument 1000000% hands down
Like it is a writing dream, the possibilities and complexities of this storyline would be endless
Like give me him talking about working through it in therapy, give me him being scared of how he will tell Chris without making him doubt his relationship with Shannon or making him feel like he got stuck cos she got pregnant with him, give me him talking to the queer ppl around him, give me navigating a whole new world of dating, sex, love, etc that most had got to experience at a younger age but he couldn’t so now has to navigate and experience these things for the first time as a 30 something year old
GIVE ME IT ALL
(Also give me lots and lots of buddie)
I’m greedy I know

Buddie 7x04 Meta Part 4 (of 4)
Click here for part 1, part 2, and part 3.
This is the last part so it probably won't be as long (hopefully).
Tumblr media
This entire conversation with Tommy includes a lot of references to Eddie. Whether Eddie's mad, how Eddie feels, why Eddie would like Tommy, how Eddie/Chris feel about Buck, how Eddie is such a great person and everyone would want to be friends with him, etc. Even when they're not talking about Eddie, they're talking about Eddie. And I love the idea of Tommy and Eddie being friends. Because honestly at the end of the day, it was Buck who was projecting more than friendship onto Tommy and Eddie's relationship. Queer men can have platonic friends that they like without wanting to be with them, and it genuinely does seem like that's what Tommy and Eddie are to each other. Their chemistry wasn't all in Buck's head, but how the two of them together made Buck feel? That was so real and super super telling.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Here's callback number ∞ to the streetfighting arc. This line in particular borrows a very particular...word...from a very particular grocery store fight. In 3x05, Eddie is the maddest he's ever been at Buck because Buck starting the lawsuit meant "I couldn't even talk to you", "Do you know how much Christopher misses you? How could you you weren't around?", "because you're exhausting!" Exhausting has been a buzzword in the Buddie fandom for many years and most people use it as an excuse for overdone and unnecessary Buck whump, but it's an interesting choice here. Especially in conjunction with Buck's acknowledgment of "making everything about him" which is another thing that is mentioned in the same episode 3x05 AS WELL AS in 3x09. But now, it's being used in a different context. Buck is falsely ascribing all of his attempts to get Eddie's attention over the last however many days to trying to get Tommy's attention. Even Tommy's like huh? "My attention?"
Tumblr media
Lou places emphasis on "my". "My attention?" So even Tommy knows that this whole time Buck has been trying to get Eddie's attention. He's surprised that Buck is suddenly saying it's been about Tommy the whole time when quite obviously, it has not been.
Tumblr media
Even Buck himself is not so certain about that. He "guesses so" because in this moment he's feeling infatuation, a connection with Tommy, a warm feeling that maybe reminds him of how he felt in the early days getting to know Eddie. He "guesses so" because that's the easy explanation to a question that's been circling his mind non-stop the past few days. It's an answer, and as we know Buck is always seeking an answer. It's a "for now readily available easy explanation" that Buck can take at face value because it means he can sleep easy at night knowing that his place with Eddie is safe again for the time being.
Even just a couple of seconds before the kiss happens, Buck brings up Eddie one last time in case you forget who's always on Buck's mind. He then mentions Maddie's words "There are better ways to get someone's attention", before he's interrupted. But before I dive into the kiss, I want to mention the implications that Tommy believes the best way to get someone's attention when you like them, instead of getting jealous, is to kiss them. It's an interesting suggestion, that all of this time, instead of all Buck's stupid peacocking attempts to try and get Eddie's attention this episode...he could've just kissed him. Foreshadowing? Only time will tell.
Tumblr media
And boom. There we have it folks. Tommy kisses Buck, and the lightbulb goes off. Buck is attracted to men, he likes men AND women. This is 911's definitive statement that yes, we were right, Buck is bisexual, has been this whole time, and will always be in the future. And no, it's not just in relation to Eddie (which by the way is an IMPORTANT distinction). Buck is attracted to men in general, he's a bisexual man, and the show is not doing a "gay for you" trope here. They're committing to Buck being a queer man and this opens a world of new doors for him.
Tumblr media
And again, I've said it once and I'll say it again: finally letting Buck realize his bisexuality, and act on it ON SCREEN (not just a throw-away mention) is REVOLUTIONARY. This representation is incredibly important and Buck's bisexuality on its own, separate from any love interest, will always be a part of him. Whether you like Tommy or not, that's not what matters. What matters is that Buck is realizing he can find happiness with a man. And more than likely, he will end up with a man, not because he has to, but because his perfect partner in the show has already been proven to be a man.
Eddie Diaz.
With this kiss, we are officially on the path towards Buddie. Buck kissing Tommy, or having a temporary relationship with him does not negate that. Just like Buck was always going to end up with Eddie even through his relationships with Abby, Ali, Taylor, and Natalia. Tommy is no different. And if after four long essays explaining point by point why that is true isn't enough to open your eyes, then I simply can't help you anymore.
Some last tidbits:
Tumblr media
This reminded me of the Lonestar crossover where Eddie begs Marjan to "for the love of God, please follow Buck back on Insta." Just interesting since Eddie x Marjan was another fake-out love interest coupling.
Tumblr media
And finally, the last 3x09 callback. This reminded me of the line when Buck says Eddie wanted to throw punches at him, Eddie says "I wouldn't do that", gives him a seductive look, and then says "You're on blood thinners". To which Buck says his famous "I could still take you". Yet another verbal comparison of Tommy to Eddie.
Final thoughts: This episode was fucking amazing (I really liked Athena's story too). This episode was more than enough proof for me that Buck and Eddie are going to get together. Buck is bisexual and FREE!!!!!!!
We were right about that, we're gonna be right about Eddie, and we're gonna be right about Buddie. Just unclench and enjoy the ride.
And for my fellow warriors who've been in the trenches for years telling everyone that the story will get there eventually, I salute us all! I hope yesterday's episode was vindication for you all as much as it was for me. I had a blast working with you all. See you all again for our celebrations when Eddie comes out and Buddie becomes canon. For now, I hope everyone had a Happy Bi Buck day!!

Eddie doesn't sleep very well. Between being a dad and a veteran, he's a very light sleeper, always up at the drop of a hat ready to deal with whatever is thrown at him. It becomes a bit of a problem when Buck moves in with him because Buck is a very deep sleeper, but he also moves around, a lot.
Eddie's tired eyes snap open at every single turn, roll, or shift from Buck and while he doesn't hit or kick Eddie in his sleep like Christopher used to do when he was little, it's still not pleasant. He needs his sleep, especially in the line of work that they're both in.
He's at the firehouse, and he's on his third cup of coffee despite the fact that he's practically shaking and not anymore awake than he was after his first one. Then, of course, Buck has to be the one to question him. To tell him that maybe he should slow down with a cute little giggle, or at least it would have been cute if Eddie wasn't so sleep deprived and resentful.
Eddie snaps at him even though he doesn't really want to and he immediately regrets it after seeing the hurt look on Buck's face. Things are awkward after that and even though Eddie is practically falling asleep against the window as they drive out to a call, nobody seems to question him or worry about it.
It's only brought up again when the two men are back at their house, and Buck is holding out a little black case to Eddie. He frowns at it and then up at Buck, but the other man doesn't offer any more explanation, so he takes the case and opens it up, revealing two small ear plugs.
"What's this?"
"I saw an ad for these things online, and I know you always tell me not to trust things I see on the internet, but this had really good reviews, and I thought, what could be the harm? They're noise cancelling ear plugs, and they're supposed to be able to stay in your ears when you sleep." Buck explains with a small smile.
"How did you..."
"The first few nights I slept over here, I thought everything was perfect, but then there was one time where you must not have woken up before me, and I found you sleeping on the couch. The more I slept over, the more tired you looked and then today... well, I figured the lack of sleep must be from me because Chris rarely needs you anymore, at night anyway." Buck shrugs. "I don't want to stop sleeping over here, and I don't want you to have to forfeit your own bed, so I'm hoping these will work."
That night is the first night that Eddie uses those earplugs. It takes an hour or so to get used to them, but he's so tired that he falls asleep without much trouble and honestly? It's the best sleep he's ever had. He sleeps for a full 8 hours and doesn't even hear how much the sheets rustle when Buck moves and if he wakes up early and well-rested enough to participate in some grown-up activities before Christopher wakes up? Well, then, that's just between them and Buck's Amazon order history because he feels people need to hear his review.

You know. I've been thinking of the shape of Eddie's sexuality, trying to understand him and. Yeah, I think I've been a bit hasty assuming that all these conflicted relationships with women spell out that he has no interest in women at all.
I think he might be bi... Here's my explanation:
Might be just about the timing of his feelings and about his stubborn persistence to ignore other choices (namely Buck) because the catholic guilt tells him that the only option available is a woman.
But what if it's a case of emotional conflict, more than sexual conflict?
Whatever Eddie's sexuality is, his marriage with Shannon was kinda rushed. They were teenage sweethearts, and then suddenly Shannon was pregnant and the expectation was to marry her and stay with her forever.
But teenage romances do not always last, do they? What if by the time Shannon got pregnant, the relationship just wasn't working purely because weren't a good match as two people - that does not need to have anything to do with sexuality.
But it can still be a suffocating relationship. Being in a relationship with someone with whom you just fight all the time. Even if the sex is good, and she is someone you've known for such a long time. It would still be draining and anxiety inducing.
Especially if you see no other option but to marry her, and stay with her. If you think it's you duty as a man to stay with the mother of your child...ren.
And let's not forget that Shannon leaves and that would break Eddie's trust. Even if Eddie escaped first, to the army, having the same pain mirrored on him would still break his trust.
And by the time Shannon returns... Eddie has met Buck. Maybe that is just such a strong emotional bond that Eddie is after that unable to truly bond with any other woman. Or any other man.
And then Shannon dies. The important thing I'd like to point out about her death is that... It does not even matter what Eddie's sexuality is.
Shannon was one of his closest human relationships. Someone he knew from a young age. His highschool sweetheart, the mother of his child, his friend. That's a lot of shared history. That's someone you grieve, deeply. Even if the marriage wasn't flawless. So do not look at Eddie's grief as a way to figure out his sexuality. He would grieve her deeply, no matter what it was.
Then... Eddie getting back to his feet after that blow...?
Aa said, he is by that point struggling to trust people. They do not stay. Also... He has met Buck. It was an instant connection. Clearly the bond they're forming is a deep one, they are turning into a family.
Expect... He hasn't really figured out that men, too, can be an option for him. So when people start urging him to return to dating... He does, even if his heart is not in it.
He pushes aside the bond with Buck. Why wouldn't he?
At that point he thinks that Buck is totally unavailable. Straight. And also ...what about religion? What about his family's expectations? And what if dating a man would cause hardship for Christopher - whose childhood has already been a tough one. So women it is, even if he's already fallen for someone and tries to ignore it.
And then there's the clusterfuck that is Eddie's relationship with Ana. On the surface it looks good.
But Eddie pushed himself to date. He does not love her. But just like with Shannon, he feels like dating equals marriage. That's the catholic guilt urging him on. Marriage, marriage, marriage.
So Eddie feels trapped... Starts having panic attacks.
Again. That does not automatically mean he's gay. It can just be that he's denying his true feelings and trying to date and get serious with someone he doesn't love. And he does realise that it is getting very serious. Ana won't even leave his home. People are talking about marriage.
And then she visits Eddie at the firestation with Chris and Eddie's carefully compartmentalized worlds collide. Because it's like she isn't even in the same room... When Buck is there.
And this cycle just keeps repeating. Must date... Can't date Buck. Dying inside. Dating feels like performing because his heart isn't in it.
And then Marisol.
The thing is... It's very tempting to leap to the assumption that Eddie's performance issues here spell "the man is gayyyy".
However. Imagine being a closeted bisexual and finding out your girlfriend was almost a freaking NUN???
That could just as well be the issue here. How can he TRUST her? Nuns aren't exactly the sort of people who join Pride to wave a sign that says "BI rights!", or any of that sort really. Also, so many important people in his life are queer. How does someone like Marisol fit into his life?
Also... Buck comes out. Wtf. Buck COULD be an option, after all?
That would certainly make Eddie's imagination run wild.
And now his trapped in another clusterfuck relationship. Watching someone he's so drawn to date another man... While he, a closeted queer, dates a nun who just moved in.
Yeah.
Edit. Not to mention, the show already did "a closeted married gay man" storyline. I think "Bi Eddie" would really be a more original story now.
Bi erasure is real, and Eddie is exactly the sort of closeted adult bisexual that slips notice in real life, too.
A straight-looking marriage can be very much genuine. But not actually a sum of two straight people.

Overall Assessment of Season 6
I’ve completed 15 detailed “Constructive Criticisms” posts regarding season 6 and I wanted to wrap everything up with an overall assessment for the entire season.
Even though 17% of the season’s 18 episodes were ok, overall, the majority of it wasn’t anything to be excited about especially since 9-1-1’s had some awesome seasons in the past (season 3 was the best). There were three good episodes but the rest could have been sent in an email or yeeted to the sun.
6x3 “The Devil You Know” had great cinematography and the acting from the main and recurring characters along with the guest stars was superb but in my opinion the storyline should have been included in a different franchise.  Mainly because it was so dark and heavy that it seemed like it would have been a better fit for “Law & Order: SVU” especially since Tonya Kingston was a special victim.  One thing 9-1-1 did EXCEPTIONALLY WELL BEFORE SEASON 5 was balance the lighter storylines with the heavier ones but for the past two seasons they haven’t done a great job of it.  Season 5 was heavy enough with Maddie’s PPD and Eddie’s PTSD storylines, therefore the third episode of season 6 shouldn’t have been that heavy and dark.  On a positive note, it was part of Athena’s origin story regarding why she became a cop and it properly closed out her storyline even though it started back in season 2.
6x6 “Tomorrow” was good but someone didn’t fact check a lot of the details for it and they didn’t ensure the continuity was there.  At the end of 6x5, the promo for 6x6 included Karen calling 9-1-1 but that scene was NOT INCLUDED in the episode.  Also, in CANON it was never mentioned that Chimney orchestrated Hen and Karen’s blind date.  Finally, the closeout of Hen’s medical school storyline wasn’t fact checked either since in 2x6 she said the reason she became a paramedic was because she got shot when she was 16 and the paramedics who came to help took care of her.  Then in 3x9, she told Karen the woman they saw at the spa, Stacy Mullins, was the reason why she became a paramedic.  So which one was it or was it both?  The audience will never know especially since she didn’t mention either option at the end of 6x6 during her explanation to Karen regarding why she decided to drop out of medical school.
6x13 “Mixed Feelings” was my favorite episode overall because it included A LOT OF BUCK & EDDIE, BUCK & CHRIS AND THE BUCKLEY-DIAZ FAMILY.  FULL STOP!  Their relationship was missing for 99% of 6A; therefore to see Buck and Eddie side by side along with the Buckley-Diazes spending time together again like they did in 6x1, it was absolute PERFECTION.  I’ve already explained in post “#15 – Buddie” how Buck and Eddie’s relationship is the main reason why I watch the show so I won’t elaborate.
All the other episodes didn’t meet the expectations that 9-1-1 established during previous seasons.
6x10 “In a Flash” could have been one of the best episodes of the season but IT WASN’T because the Buckley parents’ and Sang Han’s presences ruined it.  It was supposed to be about Buck being struck by lightning (which was shoved into the last 5 minutes of the episode) but they spent the first 40 minutes showing more of his parents, Chimney’s dad and Albert’s mother than they did showing the 118, Athena, May and Chris.  Also they SPOILED the majority of Buck’s injury a month before it aired with all the stills and promos they released.
Overall, my biggest criticism about the season is the show didn’t commit to anything.  Everything seemed like it was a false start which is kind of sad since they "thought" (I still don’t believe they thought it was the last one) or wanted the audience to believe it was going to be their final season.  My false start metaphor can be compared with a “false start” in a track meet.  When runners are on their marks and one of them starts before the starter pistol is fired, everyone must go back to the beginning.  That’s how I feel about season 6 because every main character was sent back to the beginning instead of showing how far they’ve come.  No one, not any individual character or their ships were shown to have moved forward.  The finale was a rushed mess and none of it made any narrative sense.
Basically, it appears there was no real purpose for season 6 and if there was one, it got lost in translation since things were discombobulated and all over the place.  Storylines were unequally distributed, recurring characters’ arcs were rewritten to make them likeable and the metaphors just kind of fell apart in the end.  If there really was a purpose, what was it?  The items below are overall assessments for the nine main characters.
Athena needed more storylines than what was provided in 6x3
Bobby’s AA sponsor storyline was atrocious and shouldn’t have been included
Buck’s gazillion storylines should have ended better
Chris deserves his own storylines.  He’s a main character but he never gets his own storylines even though Denny (bio dad) and Jee-Yun (Maddie’s engagement ring) had individual storylines this season
Eddie NEEDED MORE STORYLINES!  (I’ll keep screaming it because EDDIE DESERVES BETTER!)
Hen’s, Chimney’s and Buck’s quest for interim captain should have been handled better
Hen’s medical school storyline should have ended better
Maddie and Chimney deserved a better plot for their proposal storyline than that raggedy IRS Income Tax mess
May had one main storyline for the whole season but after that, she was barely there
After 6x18 aired, it seemed like someone had an idea about where they wanted the season to go but they didn’t know how to execute it in a way that would make the audience want to return after the HIATUS.  Additionally, a lot of time was spent copying storylines from other shows and it appears they didn’t think anyone would notice but it’s apparent from the comments that were left on social media sites, some viewers who watch similar series did notice and they were vocal about it.
In the past, 9-1-1 was unique but somewhere along the way they lost the thing that made them special.  In the wastelands of network TV, it was refreshing to watch a show that included everything instead of having separate shows for the police, firefighters and dispatchers like other franchises.
When the season ended, I asked myself the same question I asked after 15 of the 18 episodes aired; “Is that it?”  Maybe my expectations were too high but I don’t believe they were since I still watch episodes from seasons 2-4 (3x2 - 3x3 – the Tsunami were fantastic and 4x13 - 4x14; Eddie being shot still haunts me but I love Eddie so I'll watch all the episodes where he gets the screen time he deserves).
Was season 6 supposed to be their legacy? If so, then it was filled with a bunch of raggedy storylines that focused primarily on Buck while ignoring the rest of the main characters.  It was like they didn’t want to commit to anything risky or something that would have cemented the show as a groundbreaking TV series that would have audiences talking about it for the next decade or maybe even longer.
This is my overall assessment of season 6 and whenever the show returns, hopefully it will have returned to being uniquely 9-1-1 instead of some knock off version of the other 3 or 4 firefighting shows out there in the already oversaturated market of emergency television shows on network TV.
I’ve included links to all the “Constructive Criticisms” posts below along with their topics.

WIP WEDNESDAY
Thanks to @aspecbuddie for tagging!!
I found myself in a strange place where I'm writing buddie fic but they kinda don't have much interaction yet.
It's gonna change and omg i know it's probably stupid and fun but i need to write it anyway cause ficwriter fever.
Eddie takes a breath: ‘I'm not sure you get the situation correctly. Buck just happens to be my son's best friend. Do you have something against that?’ And finally Sam smiles: ‘No, of course not. You have a great son, I just needed to check the whole thing. Evan's explanations were a bit confusing and it looked like more of co-parenting deal which I'm not a fan of’ Eddie feels Athena and Bobby looking at each other. Co-parenting situation though. Fuck. It could actually look like that… ’I give you that, the situation could be confusing at first. But don't worry. Buck is just great with kids. And he is a very good friend, so yes, he helps me a lot’, - Eddie catches the changes on Sam's face: ‘He introduced Carla to our life. She's… I can't call her a babysitter because she's so much more. As you could probably mention Chris isn't an easy kid’,- he is. Chris is perfect. Eddie loves his son. And now, apparently, Chris is the only person Eddie can love. Is it appropriate to go already? He doesn't want to be rude to Maddie and Chim by any means but it would be better for Chris and him just go home, otherwise Eddie has all chances to end up under the table drunk as hell. Nobody would like it. ‘I get it’, - Sam is ignoring Eddie's face or he actually can't read between the lines, Eddie doesn't know for sure but it looks like he is stuck in this conversation: ‘Then I'm all for it. And I can see Evan’, - Buck. His name is Buck! Okay, Eddie quietly exhales. Maybe Buck is fine being called Evan now. ’He is very nervous he could lose Chris. So listen, if it's fine with you… maybe we actually can go out with him once in a while, and you get more free time, Evan said you broke up with your last girlfriend some time ago, so you definitely deserve your own personal life’ Eddie thinks he can hit him right in the face now. Athena would be mad, of course. Bobby too. He could be fired. But it would be worth it! He thinks Sam has no idea. But, he thinks, he has to do it for Buck. This last thought is refreshing as a cold shower. He is doing that for Buck. Buck wants him to like his boyfriend. Eddie could not do that. But he could pretend. He learnt the science of pretending quite well. ‘Hey, Eddie! Can you please come for a second?’, - Maddie is an angel sent straight from heaven to save his sanity and Sam's face. He excuses himself and goes straight to the kitchen hoping it doesn't look like running
And taglist (as always no pressure but actually if you want to also share something and my tag can ping you - ping!)

for the prompts, 36. “what’s for dinner”? if it sparks 💖✨
for u it always sparks 💖
“so, what’s for dinner?”
the question echoes through the firehouse loft, and bobby tilts his head at eddie with a frown. “shift’s over before dinner, eddie,” he says. “what do you—”
“no, i know,” eddie says, waving a hand at bobby. “i wasn’t—buck has his recipe face on, that’s all.”
“his—” chimney starts, trailing off as his eyebrows furrow.
“that’s the face buck makes when he’s found a new recipe he wants to try,” eddie says, then nudges buck’s elbow with the toe of his boot. “hey. found something?”
“yeah,” buck mutters, still distracted by whatever is on his screen. “yeah, it’s, uh—hold on, just—”
eddie goes back to his crossword, unfazed, and looks up again when the loft stays silent. “what?” he asks.
three faces look back at him, eyes narrowed and brows raised.
“buck has a recipe face,” chimney says.
“that you can identify on sight,” hen adds.
“uh, yeah,” eddie says. “is that—”
“the only person whose recipe face i recognise is karen,” hen says.
“okay?” eddie says. “what does that have to—”
“and why is buck trying out recipes on you?” chimney asks.
“no point in cooking something elaborate just for yourself,” eddie shrugs. “besides, i have a preteen. you know how much preteen boys eat?”
“yeah,” bobby and hen say in unison.
“exactly,” eddie says, and bobby and chimney and hen look at each other like maybe his explanation doesn’t make as much sense as he thinks it does.
“so buck just cooks for you because chris eats a lot?” chimney asks.
“hey, sometimes i cook,” eddie points out. “i do that now.”
“for you and christopher?” bobby asks.
“and buck,” eddie says. “he’s around a lot.”
“around a lot,” hen says. “huh.”
“why are you all acting like it’s weird?” eddie asks, frowning. “it’s not weird.”
“sure,” chimney says. “if you say so.”
and eddie’s about to say something else, but buck chooses that moment to look up from his phone again. “who says what?”
“they think it’s weird how much we eat together,” eddie says, and buck grins.
“they’re just jealous they’re not getting any of this garlic chicken i found us for tonight.”
“who says i want your garlic chicken?” chimney asks, waggling his eyebrows, and hen bursts out laughing.
“eddie definitely wants his garlic chicken,” she says.
“yeah,” eddie says. “it sounds great.”
hen clutches at chimney’s arm, and they collapse together in a heap of laughter. even bobby lets out a snort.
buck frowns, then turns to eddie. “hey,” he says, flashing a grin that tugs at something deep in eddie’s gut. “that just means more for us.”
chimney laughs so hard he needs to leave the room.

steddie vegas au part 5
part 1; part 2; part 3; part 4; ao3
(throws angst at you and runs)
-
Eddie wakes languidly, comfortable and sated. Last night had been far more than he’d let himself dream of when he’d handed Steve those tickets. Performing for Steve had felt like performing for the first time again, every lyric more meaningful, every guitar chord more sensual. Steve was magnetic, beautiful, addicting. Not to mention incredibly hot in bed. This train of thought brings Eddie’s awareness to his morning wood, and he turns, reaching for Steve. Only to find the other side of the bed cold and empty.
His stomach sinks with a jolt, and he sits up, looking around for Steve in the bathroom, listening for him anywhere else in the suite. It’s empty, and Steve’s clothes are gone from the floor. Eddie tries not to panic. Maybe Steve is a morning person, maybe he went for a run. But there’s no note anywhere, and when Eddie checks his phone there’s no text from Steve.
He feels tears well and tries to force them away. This is fine. He’s woken up alone before. There could be a thousand explanations. It doesn’t mean that he wasn’t good enough, that Steve suddenly hates him, that he got what he wanted and left, that–. He interrupts his own catastrophizing, anchors himself in his breath (Sharon should be proud of him for using that CBT shit). He briefly debates letting himself wallow in bed but decides that will serve no one and goes to take a shower. As much as he doesn’t want to wash the traces of Steve off his body, he’s a little bit (ok a lot) gross from performing and sex.
When he emerges from the bathroom, wrapped in a delightfully fluffy hotel robe, he can hear rustling in the living room. He dashes out of the bedroom with a breathless, “Ste-” before he stops in his tracks, realizing that it’s Chrissy instead. She’s in her same clothes from last night and she looks at him with concern and worse, pity.
“Steve’s gone,” he tells her brusquely. She nods, like she already knows this, and touches his arm gently.
“Eddie, honey, there’s something you need to see.”
He tries not to react as his body fills with dread. Chrissy holds her phone out to him and he takes it. It’s opened to a tabloid site, and Eddie wants to scoff, because there’s no way the tabloids could do anything worse than how they covered every step of his addiction, his recovery journey, his messy breakup, and his relapse. He’s basically immune to it by now, just the counterweight to fame. But as he skips past the headline and straight to the photo, his soul leaves his body. Because sure, that’s him, whatever. But in front of Eddie, with his back to the camera, is unmistakably Steve. Dorky dad with a great ass, concierge, regular person Steve. Who never asked for all the shit that Eddie’s lifestyle brings with it.
“Jesus H Christ,” Eddie groans. “Did he see this?”
Chrissy just looks at him. Of course. Of course Steve had seen this. No wonder he’d run, why would he want this, no sex is good enough to be worth losing your privacy.
“I was, um, with Robin last night,” Chrissy tells him. He tries to paste on a smile, to congratulate her, and then realizes she’s not bragging.
“And?” Eddie prompts. “Chris, I can handle it. Just tell me.”
“Well,” Chrissy hedges. “Robin saw the photo and kind of freaked out. I tried to explain that this is normal, that the tabloids always do things like this, but she kept trying to call Steve. I think–” she trails off.
Eddie is on edge, but tries to keep breathing, to give her space. Finally, she continues, “I think Steve’s daughter saw the photo and recognized him. Robin wouldn’t say much, but she was freaking out about that specifically, said that Steve couldn’t afford another, um.”
“Another what?!” Eddie is full-on freaking out at this point.
“Well, fuck-up. Is the word she used.”
Eddie finally gives in and lets the tears that have been building fall. Of course Steve would think of him as a fuck-up. A mistake. Steve was so good, so clean. And it was Eddie who had pushed and pushed, trying to get Steve to drop the professionalism, to let go, to play with him. Of course he had pushed too far. It’s what he does, he can’t leave things alone.
Chrissy stands on the couch, wraps her arms around his neck, and tucks his head against her chest, making soothing noises. He can’t even muster the strength to hug her back, just stands there crying, probably ruining her shirt like he ruins everything. They stay like that for a long moment, Chrissy rocking him gently.
When the tears finally subside, Eddie feels raw and swollen, like an open wound. He wordlessly climbs back into bed and throws a pillow over his face, wanting to lose himself in the obliviousness of sleep. But of course, sleep doesn’t come easily. Instead he lies awake replaying every moment from the night before. The way Steve’s eyes had gone from huge in awe to half-lidded in bliss. The way the sweat on his neck had tasted. The hair on his belly, his large hands in Eddie’s hair, his toothy smile. By the time he finally drifts to sleep, he’s half-hard and more than half-hating himself.
He wakes up to Chrissy sitting on the side of his bed, handing him a chilled bottle of water. He forces himself to sit upright and drinks it all down in one go. His stomach rumbles in response and he realizes he hasn’t eaten since dinner last night.
“What time is it?” he mumbles to Chrissy.
“It’s nearly three,” she tells him. “I ordered you lunch, it should be here soon.”
“Have I ever told you I love you,” he says solemnly. Her soft smile sends a pang through his heart. What would he do without her? He reaches for his phone, hardly letting himself hope, but there’s no text from Steve.
“Do you think I should–” he starts to ask, then stops. Looks at Chrissy with pleading eyes. She shakes her head.
“I don’t know, hon. I texted Robin once I got back this morning, and she says that Steve might just need time.”
“Do you think he’s… okay?” Even hurting like he is, Eddie can’t help but worry. Chrissy is stopped from answering the question by a knock on the door. She goes to open it, then brings Eddie’s lunch to him so he can eat it in bed.
“I’ll be right back,” she tells him. “Eat.”
So he does. He swears a burrito bowl has never tasted so good, and he demolishes it in seconds, delighted when he realizes that Chrissy had also ordered him a churro for dessert. He’s just licking the cinnamon sugar off his fingers when Chrissy returns. Her brow is furrowed and he’s about to ask her what’s wrong when she blurts out, “Steve’s fine.”
He’s about to ask her how she knows when she says in a rush, “He’s at the concierge desk. He’s fine.”
The food he’d just eaten turns to lead in Eddie’s stomach. Steve is… at work. He’s fine, and at work, and he hasn’t texted Eddie. Because Eddie was a fuck-up. He wants to cry again but he feels numb, empty.
The numbness follows him through the next week. Through three video calls with Sharon, where they talk through breathing exercises and affirmations and mindfulness techniques. He’s numb through Saturday’s performance, through the massage appointment Chrissy set up for him on Sunday morning, and through five AA meetings.
He’s numb until he checks his phone on Tuesday night after their show and sees a text from Adrian, and is flooded with feeling, as if the dam holding back all the hurt and betrayal and anger and sadness finally broke. Adrian, his last boyfriend of nine months, who’d wanted so badly to be a fashion influencer, and who’d used Eddie as free exposure. Adrian, who three months ago, had gotten a contract with Dior and had promptly broken up with Eddie, telling him that Eddie was holding him back, that he wanted to follow his career, that he didn’t need Eddie anymore. Adrian, who had triggered Eddie’s relapse into drinking after eight years sober.
He almost deletes the text without opening it, but the masochist in him lets curiosity win.
Adrian: I see you’ve downgraded to someone who thinks light wash jeans are still cool. Pathetic.
Eddie hurls his phone across his dressing room. He feels pathetic, because the first thought that comes to mind is about how good Steve’s ass looked in those jeans. The second is a wave of self-loathing because Steve is anything but a downgrade. Steve is too good for Eddie, better than he deserves, a shooting star in the night that he was lucky to have seen.
It’s self-loathing that has Eddie jumping up, sliding into his shoes, and bending to scoop up his phone from the floor, relieved that it’s only cracked a little. He’s marinating in it as he leaves the room, steadfastly not thinking about when he had Steve pressed against the door, and he’s relishing in it when he starts making his way over to the lobby bar.
Steve opens and then closes his draft resignation letter for the fifth time in the last hour. He’d written it in a drunken blur on his day off yesterday, punctuated by crying bouts and skinny girl margarita straight out of the bottle. He loves his job, but if he has to spend one more day standing at a desk across from the elevator where he ruined his life he’s going to lose it.
He tries to mentally backtrack. It wasn’t the elevator incident that had ruined his life. Despite his initial panic about his family seeing the photo, they had been wholly accepting if not slightly amused that after so many years in Vegas, Steve had finally been caught in a mild celebrity scandal. No, the elevator incident had been a high point, an undeserved moment of bliss. What had ruined his life was Steve’s stupid fucking overreaction.
After leaving Eddie’s hotel room last week, he’d managed to drive himself home while dissociating and immediately called Nancy to apologize. She hadn’t picked up, and the longer he waited for her to call him back, the more he became convinced that the event that had driven him to Vegas, that had lost him his chance at a nuclear family, was happening all over again.
By the time his phone finally rang, Steve was curled in the fetal position on the floor. It had taken Nancy an hour to convince him he had nothing to apologize for and to coax him into bed, and she must have texted Robin, because he woke up in the early afternoon to Robin in bed next to him, stroking his hair. They’d facetimed Max, who, in her classic teenage way, had spent only a minute teasing Steve for the photo before rattling on about high school drama, reminding Steve that sometimes what feels like the end of the world is actually a minor, solvable issue.
He’d gone into work that evening determined to make things right with Eddie, but when Eddie finally came down to the lobby, he didn’t even look in Steve’s direction. When it happened again the next day, and then the next, Steve had resigned himself to the fact that Eddie wanted nothing to do with him. Maybe he’d even been glad that Steve had left in the morning, that he’d saved Eddie the trouble of asking Steve to leave. Who wouldn’t be embarrassed about their dirty little hotel secret getting out to the public?
He opens his resignation letter again. Changes the signature from Regretfully to Sincerely and then back again. He’s about to send it to the printer when the desk phone rings.
“Caesars Palace concierge, this is Steve, how can I help you?”
On the other end of the line, there’s a slight gasp and then silence. Steve waits a polite amount of time before repeating himself. When there’s still no answer, he breaks form and whispers, “Hello? Is anyone there?”
The only response is a hitch of breath. Maybe he’s delusionally hopeful, but Steve takes a chance. “Eddie?
He hears a broken whisper in response. “Hi sugar.”
“Eddie, hi, sweetheart, are you okay? I’m so sorry I left, I freaked out, and then I wanted to talk to you, but I couldn’t get your attention, and–”
Eddie cuts him off with a pained “Stevie” that has every one of Steve’s parental instincts on edge.
“Eddie, what’s wrong?”
He hears Eddie take a deep breath. “I’m at the bar.”
Steve’s stomach drops. “Oh. Okay. Did you– Did you order a drink?”
There’s a long silence. Then, “I did. But. I didn’t drink it. I think–” Eddie stops. Steve wants to scream into the phone, to run to the bar and grab the glass, throw it on the floor. But he forces himself to wait, to let Eddie take the lead.
“I think I need to go to a meeting,” Eddie finally mumbles, and Steve is launching into action, pulling up the AA meeting list, the document that had started it all.
“Okay, absolutely, I got you.” He scrolls frantically to the meetings on Tuesday and miraculously finds one starting soon. “Okay, Eddie, there’s a meeting in half an hour. We’re going to get you there.” When there’s nothing but silence and background chatter on the other end, Steve asks, “Are you there, sweetheart?”
“I’m here,” Eddie says weakly.
“Okay, Eds, do you want me to walk you to the meeting? We can go together.”
“No! No, I can’t–” Eddie hesitates. Steve wants to smack himself in the face. Why would Eddie want to be seen with him? After all the embarrassment he’d caused already.
“Okay, that’s fine, no problem. I’m going to give you directions over the phone, is that okay?” Steve barely catches a quiet “yes” in response.
“Alright, Eddie, I need you to stand up. I need you to walk away from the bar. Can you do that for me?” Steve hears rustling on the other end, and then Eddie’s voice comes through clearly. “I’m walking out.”
“Great, sweetheart, that’s great. You’re doing so well, that was the hardest part.” Out of the corner of his eye, Steve sees a black-clad, curly-haired figure enter the lobby. He watches as Eddie makes his way slowly toward the front door of the hotel, looking determined, eyes never straying from his goal. His heart clenches in his chest like it does every time he’s seen Eddie from afar over the past few days, and it takes all his willpower to not run over to him.
“Okay keep going, Eddie, you’re going to go out the front door and turn left, and then walk two blocks.” Steve watches as Eddie follows his directions, listens to his quiet breathing over the phone.
“I’m outside,” Eddie tells him.
“How is it out there?” Steve asks to keep him talking. “Is it still hot as hell like earlier?”
Eddie tells him about the weather, about the slight breeze that’s picked up between the buildings now that the sun has gone down. For a moment his voice is drowned out by a siren, but when the noise fades Steve can hear his steady breathing and footsteps.
“Tell me where you are, Eds,” Steve probes gently. When Eddie tells him the cross street, Steve asks him about his surroundings, makes Eddie describe what he’s seeing to keep him grounded.
“Almost there, I need you to cross to the opposite corner and then turn right.” Steve can practically feel Eddie rocking nervously as he waits for each light, but he dutifully follows Steve’s directions, tells him about the older couple dressed like they’d walked out of the 1960s, about the mom pushing her crying baby in a stroller, about the glimpse of the moon he can see as he looks down a side street.
“You’re doing great, now we’re just looking for the rec center. It should be three blocks down on the left.” Eddie goes radio silent for a few minutes and Steve tries not to panic, listening to Eddie’s breathing to reassure himself.
Eventually he hears a quiet, “Steve? Are you there?” Steve tries to keep his relief out of his voice when he answers, “Yes, Eddie, I’m here. I’ll be here as long as you need me.” And he’s struck by how true that is, how he wants to be the person Eddie calls when he doesn’t want to be alone.
On the line, Steve hears a squeaky door open and then echoing footsteps. “I’m at the rec center,” Eddie says. “I see signs for the meeting, I’m going to follow them.”
“That’s, that’s good, sweetheart.” A moment later, Steve hears someone greet Eddie and usher him inside. He’s about to hang up, thinking Eddie no longer needs him, when he hears a sharp inhale.
“Sugar?” Eddie whispers into the phone. Before Steve can answer, he continues: “Thank you. Thank you so much.” And then hangs up.
Steve takes a moment to just stand there, still clutching the phone and holding back tears. Eventually he comes back into himself. Takes a deep breath. And drags his resignation letter into the trash.

hi anna i’m glad to hear you’ve rested! 😊
i just had a ?? moment so thought i would share to see what you think
i know they’re saying that buck’s jealousy and ‘wanting attention’ has nothing to do with eddie, he wanted tommy’s attention not eddie’s… but him being insecure about chris doesn’t fit into that? he complains to maddie that chris thinks tommy is so cool and then tommy basically has to reassure him that buck could never be replaced in chris’ life… but then they say it’s got nothing to do with eddie?? buck was jealous of eddie bc he wanted to be in his position spending time with tommy… okay. so are we suggesting he was also jealous of chris for the same reason?? lmao no way, he was insecure about chris liking tommy more than he likes buck, and that does NOT fit with the ‘tommy was buck’s focus not eddie’ explanation
do you get what i mean? 😅
Hi, darling, thank you 🩷, and, like, I get what you mean, but I also do think that this is all gonna lead to Buck sitting down and being like "oh shit it wasn't about Tommy" in the future and then gasoline will be poured on our slow burn. Because it doesn't make sense if it's only about Tommy, I think Buck was experiencing a strong case of "I want to be in the middle" because you have Eddie, who's everything Eddie is, and you have Tommy, this guy Buck has a crush on he doesn't have the tools to process yet, so he was feeling ignored on all fronts, but since he was confronted with the "oh I'm attracted to Tommy" first, he just accepts that his behavior is about Tommy, even though we know it wasn't, because, yeah, he wouldn't get insecure about Chris if it was only about missing out on Tommy and the whole gym scene doesn't really add up to Tommy either, because Buck was behaving like that before he knew the person on the phone with Eddie is Tommy, and he was acting like that before the ball gets there and he can just say he wants Eddie to invite him so he can see Tommy again. Because, again, the whole thing starts at the hangar, with Buck being there with Tommy outside of Eddie, so Buck knows how to contact Tommy himself, so why wouldn't he just call Tommy? You don't need Eddie to be this involved on Buck finding out he's bi if they are not planning on going back and making Buck reevaluate what his feelings for Eddie might be. Narratively speaking, from a storytelling perspective and from a business perspective, to make Buck bi and not go there with buddie is dumb, but Buck is settled in his relationship with Eddie, so he would never find out he might be attracted to him or men in general alone. We all have been saying someone would need to slam Buck into the realization for years, but you can't really have that person be Eddie, because with the way Buck acts with romantic relationships, if you, for instance, make Eddie kiss him, you risk making it seem like Buck isn't really into Eddie, he's just so scared of losing him, that he would even go there to keep him, and that would put some huge cracks in their relationship, because Eddie himself could end up feeling this way while Buck tumbles through the discovery, and that would be bad. The whole thing is that Buck needs to accept that he's into men before he can actually process the idea that he might be into Eddie. I don't know if it's my demi Eddie believes, my belief that Eddie has been semi aware he's in love with Buck since s3, or just the general way Eddie has existed around Buck since he got introduced, but I kinda think that if they are going the route of Buck needed to understand he's into men and Eddie needs to understand he's into Buck, that does make sense.
Not that the groundwork for the both of them to be in love with each other is not there, but Buck had a thing going with men in general, that Eddie mostly only has with Buck, and I think that making Buck accept he's bi outside of Eddie, to work on that outside of buddie, and then have Buck go for it would make Buck's bisexuality a lot more complex, which honestly, I think it's the goal here, Buck can be great representation and to have that with a guy that looks like Buck makes my bisexual ass want to cry. But since I'm hoping for Eddie to be on the ace spectrum, to have his queer storyline attached to Buck would make sense, because he can have a nice "oh I have a family with the guy, this is why no one else feels right" and then if they decide to go there, which I didn't think they would, but hey, Buck actually kissed a guy so I'm shooting for the sky now, you can have Eddie figuring out he's demi be attached to his thing with the expectations that come with being a man and what that's supposed to look like and the whole thing he was always expected to be "The Man" and that he dodges the whole dating thing that hard because he's not interested in casual intimacy and it could be beautiful. I think they are trying to make the point that Buck's bisexuality is not about Eddie, which it isn't, but that we are still gonna get to the point of Buck being like "maybe I do want Eddie's attention more than I realized" and then something is gonna happen. And seriously, Ryan, the captain of the buddie ship since day 1, wouldn't be down right giddy talking about how much closer Buck and Eddie are gonna get if Buck was just going to get a new boyfriend and they wouldn't tie it back to buddie. They are playing the long game here.

Please help me out, what is the "construction on sunset" theory?? Is it a proper theory or just the usual delusion??
Hello Anon!!
I wouldn't say that "construction on sunset" is a proper theory... at least I've never heard anyone refer to it as a theory, but what I have seen if people interpret that line as a metaphor or use it as a metaphor themselves.
For context: in Season 4 Eddie starts dating a woman named Ana, the first woman he has dated since his wife, Shannon, died. Eddie arrives home from that date and Buck, rounding the corner, says "you're late." Eddie's explanation is that there was "construction on sunset." We then learn that Buck was there babysitting Christopher, but Buck's "you're late" gives off some "welcome home cheater" vibes lmao
(Side note: very interesting how in an episode where the conflict is that Christopher is upset that Eddie is dating someone, we see Buck so easily step into that co-parent role and as someone Chris can go to...)
Now, what I think the actual theory going around is, that these little moments in season 4 are being used as evidence for, is that Season 4 was supposed to be a setup for Buddie happening. In a recent interview, Oliver said that a couple years ago he was approached about making Buddie happen but that it was shut down "somewhere else above."
In Season 4 there are A LOT of Buddie moments. I mean, just look at the goddamn shooting. That's fucking cinema right there. A lot of screen time is dedicated to Buck's POV reacting to it and trying to just function in the aftermath. And then we get the will scene?!?!? Where Eddie gives him his son?? Says that 'I trust you to take care of him more than my own family.' I am chewing at the bit. i am jumping off the wall. tearing my own hair out. this show is not good for my mental health!!
All of these moments, coming together could have crescendoed into one, or both of them, realizing their feelings for each other. However, in the wake of that interview, a lot of people believe that this was stopped by the studio/the network/someone else etc. and that's why we didn't get it.
So that is some people's theory. Do I believe it? Well, that's a question for a different ask.
Circling back to "construction on sunset" as a metaphor: throughout the years we have seen Buck and Eddie pursue relationships that have taken them away from each other. Maybe these detours have caused them to arrive a little late, but when they come home, it's to each other.
I hope that makes sense/answers your question!! thanks for the ask anon!!!

WIP Wednesday
Thank you @mellaithwen and @rewritetheending for tagging me 💛 I don't usually have time to do WIP Wednesday by the time I get tagged but I'm procrastinating getting ready for work today so ✌️
“I think Hollywood makes rain seem a lot more romantic than it actually is,” he says, shrugging the melancholy away.
“Yeah,” Buck agrees, something distant in his eyes like he’s remembering some awkward relationship moment of his own in the rain. “And snow. It’s like they forget how cold and unpleasant it gets.”
He shivers as he says it, some phantom memory attached to that too. Eddie thinks about asking, but Buck’s past is a patchwork of old bruises and anything he doesn’t willingly share is usually one he doesn’t want poked at. If they were at home, on the couch or in the kitchen, nursing a six pack between them—maybe then Eddie would poke anyway, ready to soothe any hurt it uncovered. Now he just nudges Buck with his elbow and says, “So, fall wedding. No rain, no snow, we won’t sweat through our tuxes before we get to the end of the aisle.”
He catches it a beat too late—we—and braces himself for rejection, for laughing it off, for fumbling through an explanation. His heart is torn, hoping Buck will think he just meant they’d both be in tuxes and walking down the aisle because he’d be Eddie’s best man, and half dreading that that’s all Buck will think when he pictures them at the altar together.
Except—
“We could have a destination wedding,” Buck suggests, his fingers idly pulling a loose thread on one of Eddie’s buttons. Eddie swats his hand away before he can unravel it completely.
“Destination weddings are expensive,” he counters. “We should just get married at the courthouse and save all our money for the honeymoon.”
Buck snorts. “You want to pull a Bobby?”
“I didn’t say we wouldn’t invite anyone.”
He wants to say all I need is you, me and Chris but everything this conversation has become already feels too dangerous. Too close to serious. They’ve always been good at blurring the line between friends and whatever else they could be, but this feels too blurry even for them. Eddie wonders if he should pinch himself, just to make sure he isn’t dreaming.

wip wednesday
I wasn't gonna post anything until I get back from my vacation but I'm reading the prequel to "they both die at the end" and it prompted an idea of a little crossover sad fic with a tragic mcd ending and I'm gonna break my own heart with this one for sure 😂 (@thebravebitch said what I have so far is good and I trust her judgment lol ❤️)
so here's a little snippet I wrote on my phone bc I couldn't help myself and wait a few days 😂
______
His phone ringing wakes him up. At first he's confused, not registering it's his phone, since it's not even his ringtone. It takes him a few seconds to recognize it, and when he does, he looks at his phone and freezes, the words "DEATH-CAST" showing up as the caller ID.
He doesn't panic. When he answers the call, they'll tell him he's going to die in the next twenty four hours - or, twenty two hours, since it's after 2am already, they took their time to deliver this news. But he doesn't panic, he doesn't worry, he just freezes, and wonders if he should answer the call at all. After all, he's not even sure he believes in this whole damn thing.
One thing he does know is that no one will even try to convince him that he's going to die soon. They don't know shit.
*
It's not a new information that Eddie Diaz is what can be classified as a skeptic. He's not a believer in supernatural forces, magic, jinxes, ghosts, lately he even struggles with religion, despite his abuela's best efforts. Everyone in his life is aware of that.
So when this dude showed up out of nowhere claiming he can predict when people are gonna die, with no details or explanation, and give them one last day to sort out their affairs and say goodbye - Eddie called bullshit. He wasn't about to spend money on the off chance that they'll let him know when he's about to die. With being in the army, shot at every day, and even now with being a firefighter, he's aware of his own mortality more than your average person, he's already had more brushes with death than most people.
But he bought the subscription anyway, for his whole family. He had his parents, his abuela, his tía, and his wife trying to convince him, and they didn't succeed - he still thinks it's bullshit - but at least that got them to shut up about it. So, since then they spent thousands every year on subscribtions to this dumb service for himself, Shannon, and Christopher, and it was a waste of money, in Eddie's opinion.
And then, shortly after he moved to LA with his son, when he reconnected with his estranged wife, trying to see where this would go, but no matter what, his son was getting his mom back, and things were starting to look up again - Shannon got the call.
Eddie didn't belive it, but she did, and she decided to live this day like it's her last - which it ended up being, after all, but Eddie's still not sure if it wasn't some freak coincident.
That's what he's trying to tell her, when she's asking for a divorce that they don't have time to get finalized before he becomes a widower. She looks at him over the table in the little café they met, and there's nothing but peaceful acceptance, mixed with a bit of sorrowful regret for what she'll miss, in her eyes.
"Please make sure Christopher remembers I love him. I loved him, and I'll continue to love him from wherever we go after." she says with feeling, but at the same time she's almost casual about it. As if the prospect of dying within who knows how many hours wasn't a big deal. As if the only big deal is leaving her child once again, this time permanently.
Eddie can't take this. He won't believe this.
He still has trouble believing when he arrives on a call to a car accident later, and sees Shannon lying there on the street. Logically, he knows it makes sense, there's been a lot of people he's heard about who got the call and died, there's no reason not to believe it. But there's also not a lot of reasons to believe it, it might all just be a coincidence. Eddie's not about lose Shannon. Chris is not about to lose his mom. It's not fair. And he can't help blaming the stupid Death-Cast program.

If you were to put 1 Merlin, 1 911 and 1 Supernatural character in a room together who would you pick and why?
oh dear. hm. well if i wanted pure chaos id put arthur, buck, and dean in a room together. imagine the levels of bisexual.
if i wanted a group to have a crisis together i’d put merlin, eddie, and cas in a room together. merlin and cas would help eddie with his sexuality questions.
if i wanted to create the ultimate knucklehead group id put gwaine, albert, and gabriel together.
if i wanted the worst group alive id put uther, doug, and john winchester together.
if i wanted a think tank id put gwen, hen, and sam together. they’d solve world hunger before 10 in the morning.
another think tank: leon, athena, and kevin
my partner said gwaine, chim, and jack but they had no explanation.
imagine elyan, chim, and garth. the amount of hugging that would occur.
personally if i wanted a slice of heaven, making friendship bracelets and eating pizza and lots of ice cream and playing games, id put lancelot, christopher, and jack together. maybe i just want chris and jack to have a playdate. i think they would be best friends and i would cry.
old man club: gaius, bobby nash, and bobby singer. i actually made an edit of bobby and bobby for my mom yesterday cuz she loves them both so much.
first meeting of scary women club: morgana, taylor, and rowena. good lord. i’m scared just looking at that list.
powerful women, love of my life edition: morgana, karen, and charlie. LESBIAN CLUB.
alternatively, bi women club: gwen, maddie, and eileen. the way i actually would love to see that friendship oh my god
i really want to put may and ravi and crowley somewhere but i don’t know who i would put them with. too many characters i can’t choose
my actual answer is i have no idea the combinations are endless
how about you?

Buck & Eddie: Eddie, Buck, Chimney and Bobby talking to the audience
(Clearing drafts and GIFs before the end of season 6.)
In my opinion, several things have been said by characters during 6B that appear to have been directed at the audience.  I selected three of them to include in this post from 6x13 “Mixed Feelings”, 6x14 “Performance Anxiety” and 6x15 “Death and Taxes” because to me it seemed like the things Eddie, Buck, Chimney and Bobby said to each other, could be applied to Buck and Eddie’s relationship.
In 6x13, when Chris said, “He can give me the answers to my math homework” and Eddie replied, “Ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah... you’re never going to learn if he gives you the answers” it seemed like Eddie’s statement could be applied to the audience too because if the show would have provided direct evidence/answers about the direction they are planning to take with Buck and Eddie’s relationship before 6x18 “Pay it Forward”, the audience could figure it out before they’re ready to reveal it.  Also, this episode was filled with Buck and Eddie, Buckley-Diaz Family and Buck and Chris family time moments/scenes (related post here) that showed they’re already a family and it aired prior to the angsty episodes of 6x14 through 6x17 “Love is in the Air”.
In 6x14, after Chimney returned to the firehouse with Ravi and the alarm sounded, he asked Bobby, “Can’t you just tell us what you want us to do directly instead of always making a game out of it” and Bobby responded, “Where’s the fun in that?”  It seemed like another statement that could be applied to the audience especially when it’s compared with the statement Eddie made in 6x13 about getting the answers instead of one trying to figure them out on their own.  Also, the showrunner has alluded to episodes or characters’ storylines and arcs being “fun” in post-mortem interviews a lot during season 6 and Bobby’s comment was similar to the things that were said.  For example, the showrunner said Eddie going on dates would be “fun” (it wasn’t) and before season 6 started, she alluded to the fact that this season would be more lighthearted and “fun”.  It appears her explanation of fun depends on people’s different interpretations of the word.
In 6x15, Buck said, “I, I feel like I have to try and be the same old Buck, mostly for the sake of everyone else” and Eddie replied, “You don’t have to be anything for anybody”.  It seemed like Buck’s statement about him feeling like he had to try and be the same for everyone else’s sake could also be applied to the audience because some GA viewers don’t want him to change and grow.  The comments that are left on some platforms show how some GA viewers would prefer he stay the same.
It’s certainly possible these statements weren’t directed towards the audience but it’s also possible they were especially since there have been a lot of subtexts, metaphors, callbacks, foreshadowing, hindsight, etc. for the entirety of 6B so far, so in my opinion, it’s not too far-fetched.  Were these statements directed at the audience or were they just part of the dialogue?  Only the showrunner(s), writers and producers know the answer to that question and viewers will probably never know.

WIP Wednesday
Cause it's still wednesday in Paris and I'm also in Paris.
I'm not tagging anyone but if you for some reason want to know where this is going - interact with this and I'll tag you next time!
***
Buck hears the door open and freezes, not entirely awake. Maybe it's already morning? Hell it's so uncomfortable not to see. He should have been more careful on that call. Ok, it's too quiet for morning, so it should be still night. He finds his phone and turns it on.
'Five hours thirty six minutes', - it's totally not morning. But… he could swear he heard the door. Who could it be?
Buck leaves the bed, finds the bat - kinda funny Eddie keeps it here - and goes to the hall
'Who's there?!', - well, what else can he do right now? Attack first, ask later could be rude! And blind attacks could totally break something. The answer leaves him unarmed: 'Buck… put my bat down, it's me'.
'Eddie? What are you doing here?', - Buck was pretty sure he'll come back only in the morning. Or even the next day, after the shift.
'I live here', - Eddie smiles. Even not seeing Buck can tell, something in Eddie's voice is changing when he smiles: 'I know. I mean… Didn't you have a date?'
There's this noise when Eddie puts off his jacket before he speaks: 'Yes. I had a date. Now I'm here.', - usually, in Buck's mind, dates with this context don't end up in the middle of the night, so he says it: 'I thought you'd stay there'
Pause
'Well, i did not. Put the bat away, Buck, and go back to sleep, I'm sorry i woke you up'
'You didn't answer our texts, Chris was worried!',- actually, Buck was much more worried after all but hardly likely it makes sense.
'I know. I apologize in the morning. Now I just want to lie down. So let's postpone this talk, okay?'
Something in his voice sounds wrong but Buck can't guess what specifically
'Okay… everything is fine? I mean…', - how did the sex go, that's what he means. But who asks this kind of question?
'Evan, please…', - he is really tired and needs to think about a lot of stuff. And take an Advil. Discussion is just not on the table now
'Fine. I can wait for you, if you want', - it's really strange how fast Buck creates a habit to sleep with Eddie using him as a big comforter. Giant pillow. Enormous hugging toy. Eddie just emits coziness and calmness. Not that it doesn't bother Buck but to be honest not that it's bothering him that much
'Not today. Sorry. By the way, can I use your car?'
'Well, yes, it's still at the station but I'll give you the keys. Why?'
'I need to go to the mall. Buy a new phone', - now there should be a pretty fucking good explanation and Buck demands it: 'I meant why you can't use your car but now i also have a question about your phone. Is everything ok?'
Pause
'Well, there's a possibility I've got into some accident and broken my car. And lost my phone. And..',- Buck hears Eddie stumbles: 'And also got a light concussion'
Buck freezes: 'Excuse you? Accident? Concussion?', - Chris was right. Something was totally wrong.
'It's nothing, really. Some bruises and this, i had a pretty good safety system as you know'
'Eddie..', - Buck tries, he really tries to be calm: 'What the hell are you talking about?', - well, he did try. He just didn't succeed.
'There's a big slam on the highway. Some trucks collapsed, twelve cars were affected.. there was 133 and our b-shift, so i helped for some time and then i was caught by captain Mehta and sent home', - Buck is mad. Like really mad: 'He sent you home?! Not to the ER?!'
Eddie laughs: 'I might say I have a personal first responder at home. I might miss the fact he's blind. And he checked me, so I'm fine. Just a little dizzy'
'You go to bed. With me. Don't argue. I need to control your state.'
Eddie keeps quiet for some time
'Fine. I'm too exhausted for this now. And too dizzy'
'I can call an ambulance', - actually that's a good idea, thinks Buck. Why the hell did you come home instead of the ER? Why the hell were you even driving somewhere??
'But what's with Eric then?'
'Oh fuck… I'll call him tomorrow'
'Eddie. I mean, you were on a date. How did you end up in the car crash?'
'Doesn't matter. Hell'
Buck hears him holding onto the wall and goes forward to catch his hand: 'I've got you', - that phrase gives Eddie a sad smile, fortunately Buck can't see it: 'Thanks, Evan'

Note
yeah buck going with eddie to the hospital in stuck is one of those things that even though we talk about it a lot i still don't think we talk about it enough! like they'd known each other for 10 minutes and eddie is trusting him enough to let him into his business like that already!! it's not a small thing for eddie to do that!!!! it makes me very unhinged every time i think about it!!!!!
also like. WHY is he even THERE???? similar to why he drove eddie to get chris after the earthquake literally ONE episode prior there is just no explanation!!!!! HE'S JUST THERE BECAUSE THE NARRATIVE WANTS HIM TO BE! INSANE!
