it’s Stupid Hours (aka way too early in the morning) and after 0.2 seconds of searching on YouTube ive come to the conclusion that there is no qsmp John Mulaney “The One Thing” animatic yet and ive gotta say guys. im disappointed.(/lh) im so used to every fandom having at least one The One Thing animatic that realizing there isn’t one for qsmp is bonkers to me. i’ve watched so many of these over the years that if you played The One Thing audio, i could probably recite it in time w the audio (i won’t say from memory bc my memory is shit.)
anyway here’s what i would personally do for a The One Thing animatic if i could draw. remember that this is gonna be skewed to the POVs im more familiar with so im sorry if your cubito doesn’t make it into the role you’d expect. i tried to include as many people as possible.
Edit: "Back in high school..." - not really necessary, but i imagine this story/"AU" taking place during the egg disappearance, which would explain the overly chaotic behavior of the islanders. not that they ever need a reason to be chaotic.
Narrator - Charlie. he’s not on the server as often but bc of that he would make a good “outside” pov narrator. also he’s just a got a really quick-with-it type of humor, cracking jokes and puns and doing wordplay/inprov’d songs at the drop of a hat, and he also loves telling stories.
Mr. Macnimara - Cucurucho. “And Mr. Macnimara was an asshole.” need i say more?
Jake Macnimara - Jaiden. beloved bird of the Federation, though that absolutely would not stop her from throwing a wild party for her friends in their offices if she could. Edit: also Quackity would make a really good option here. Cringefail man that the Federation likes to toy with, we love to see it. Also with his shit luck it makes sense that a party that he decides to host at the Fed offices (a bad idea in the first place tbf) would blow up in his face so hard.
(Bonus: Mrs. Macnimara - the Duck. the Watcher. ElQuackity. idk who’s funnier just whoever your heart desires.)
“And we all got up individually and thought: okay, let’s go over there, and destroy the place.” - split screen of Cellbit, Baghera, Maxo, and Bad. there could be more, like Mike, Etoiles, Phil, Tubbo, really anyone who hates the Federation and/or has an affinity for chaos. Foolish would be a really fucking funny option for this one because yeah he works for the Feds but He Absolutely Would. all of the characters would get up calmly, and on the word “destroy” flip to a Chaos Mode Engaged expression (Cellbit with a grin and bloodstains on his cheeks, Baghera w flames behind her and in her eyes, etc etc)
“People were drinking like it was the civil war and a doctor was coming to saw our legs off” - Tubbo and his backpack of 3749588383 chainsaws. tazerraft could also be a good option considering Pac’s love of beheading people and Mike’s generally unhinged behavior. tbh just anyone/everyone in morning crew.
Person who breaks the pool table - Etoiles. someone would dare him to and he’d get so fucking excited he would absolutely HURL himself at that pool table. (dogboy behavior)
Person who takes a shit on the computer - … look ive been blankly staring at this one for like 7 fucking minutes. my heart says Aypierre but i could not tell you why. just. anyone who would absolutely do some rancid, unhinged shit when given the opportunity. Foolish again maybe. idk.
Edit: "Something something, police." - Jaiden, if she isn't Jake Macnimara. She would totally say it in a "LOL UH-OH" manner. If not, I could also imagine Missa, Bagi, or Fit nervously/bluntly trying to warn people while laughing.
“Fuck da police!” - “Fuck da Feds!”/“Fuck da Federation!” from what i can tell, Charlie doesn’t have an active animosity towards the Federation, but a lot of his friends do, and he will do anything, ANYTHING to commit to the bit. he will do ANYTHING for the funnies, and if he thinks that shouting “Fuck da Feds!” at the top of his lungs is going to get a reaction out of people, he absolutely will.
Edit: "'I served my nickel, you come and take me!' confidence." - Mike. I have such a strong mental image of Mike drunkenly shouting this while Pac and Fit hold him up/hold him back. Fuga references my beloved. Also the fact that he was put in a Fed freezer for a while.
The Police - the Federation workers. obviously. bonus points for one unnamed guard/officer being impressed like “wooooow :0” and then widening the shot to reveal an unamused Agent 18 standing next to them, leaning into his walkie talkie saying, “Get the paddy wagon.”
“SCATTER!” - Phil. (if you know you know.) generally, people who don’t know Phil tend to think he’s pretty chill, so no one would expect him to do something like that. also when Charlie says “And my friend John—” it would cut to a ‘pause screen’ over the scene, Charlie coming on screen to clarify the “father” and “baby” parts by providing helpful pop-up images of family pictures with Chayanne, Tallulah, and Missa on screen. Resumes, presses play and the screen clears: “He grabbed a 40…”
Edit: "Until, two years later..." - again, not really necessary, but it could be something like, "Until, after Purgatory..."
Alex (guy who stole the photos) - Roier. HEAR ME OUT. Roier, similar to Phil, is just such an unassuming guy. he’s cheery and laughs a lot and cracks jokes, but deep down, he’s smart and he’s got a burning HATRED for the Federation. he’s not the kind of guy to start fights, but with everyone else causing chaos at the party, breaking shit in the offices/house, he would absolutely take the opportunity to steal Federation documents for his husband’s investigations. (or antique photos, if you want to keep with the high school setting/theme.) i mean he stole a fucking lamp from their offices once just because there was so much shit going on and he knew the Feds probably wouldn’t notice (iirc).
Edit: SOMETHING I FORGOT TO MENTION ABOUT ROIER. you could totally make the line “because it’s the one thing you can’t replace” a reflection of Bobby, who the Federation ‘killed’, so now he’s getting back at them. (i’ve put way too much thought into this.)
anyway that’s all! feel free to contribute if u want i just really love The One Thing. it’s an older fandom meme but yeah it still checks out.
(the sheer number of edits to this thing really speaks to how much it lives in my head lmaooo. there's more details but im not gonna include them here bc they're too visual.)

(different anon) i do want your opinion on the john mulaney divorce drama actually. i may even agree
i have a loooooot to say about this and it’s not at all popular so it’s under the cut and it’s long lmao cw: nuance
my opinion is that the treatment he received after he left rehab and filed for divorce shows that we don't care about drug addicts at all. literally i once saw a tiktok that made my blood boil because they listed "is a drug addict" as a reason to hate him and... how dense can you be? addiction isn't a personality trait or a quirk, it's a fucking disease that could still kill him if he ever relapses again.
his life was never as publicized and torn apart as it was the minute he left rehab (and yet somehow people still managed to get so many things wrong?), there were tweets and tiktoks spewing all kinds of hateful things about him right after he received treatment for his relapse. also people started coming up with extremely invasive speculation and rumors (that may or may not be true but that's not the point here) and accusing him of things none of the people involved accused him of and still doubling down on their hate for him when... most things actually back the timeline john himself gave us?
around oct-dec 2020 (or even earlier) a much smaller, but super invasive, group of people in the john fandom were already aware of their separation because they were never spotted together anymore and anna fully stopped using 'mulaney' as her last name way before we knew john was in rehab (as well as people with information from "sources" etc but that's too deuxmoi-y for my taste). then john left rehab in february 2021 and immediately filed for divorce - and y'know how in rehab people are encouraged to get out of situations and relationships that can lead them to another relapse? and then he left rehab and immediately filed for divorce? what's. not. clicking.
but, anyway, the divorce news only came out around may, almost at the same time as the news about olivia and because of this timing some people to this day still believe that it all happened on the same week when in reality he and anna had not been together for like. half a year lmao
and i love anna. i'm not in any way saying she's in the wrong in this situation, she went through a shitty divorce, after a shitty year and unfortunately her ex-husband moved on really fast, and because of exaggerated public attention, he also moved on REALLY publicly, and that's fucking shitty. i felt awful for her because of course i didn't want that to happen for them, i loved john and anna together, i genuinely believe they’d be together forever and obviously i was disappointed by the news.
but the thing is... divorce happens. life in 2020 was tough on everybody, people were forced to be confined and everything was put to the test, and a relationship with an addict is difficult as is; now add the weight of a global pandemic and everything else? it's chaos. survival of the fittest and they weren’t the fittest regardless of what people imagined of them.
and we don't even know if it was the relapse leading to the divorce or the divorce leading to the relapse but it was definitely a year that put their relationship to the test and they fucking failed. people who love each other still get divorced. and they can be individually really good people who genuinely loved each other but even then relationships can become bad and if divorce seemed like the solution for the guy that needed to do something about his life in order to not relapse on cocaine again then... i'm glad he chose what was best for him.
but then you go on tiktok and there were hundreds of people who watched 2 john mulaney specials and read deuxmoi like the bible and they were saying shit like "anna got me in the divorce!!!" and doing the most to have the cleverest joke or make the best disappointed face for a few likes and it was genuinely draining. because even if the timeline he offered was 100% false and he did cheat on anna with olivia and all the other awful things he was senselessly accused of (again all anna officially said about the divorce is that she was heartbroken that he decided to end their marriage but wished him well etc), even if he did all of that, the lack of care in the way people talked about him in the first year of his recovery is just fucking cruel.
i’m not saying everyone should’ve babied him and been like “uwu love u mr mulaney you’ve never done anything wrong ever” but on the simple basis that the guy was in recovery for a cocaine addiction, after being sober for well over a decade (for context: anna met him years after he got clean), ideally people would’ve just backed off and let the guy live his life as best as he could. even if he did things i personally wouldn’t have done in my recovery lol
and i wish anna had been left alone too - i love that she got recognition with her work because she’s very talented and dinner in march + the december 2021 version of dinner in march are fucking beautiful (the dec one is my favorite). but it’s sad that most of the people that are paying attention to her art, even now, almost 2 years later, are only doing that because they wanna diss her ex-husband. and if you’re only admiring anna’s work to find clues of john in it, then she’s not the one that got you in the divorce after all.
the other day i saw a tiktok edit of anna to some sad music with the caption like “omg it’s her song 😥” and it’s... genuinely so sad that if these are the people that are gonna be promoting her work to new audiences, she’s always gonna be tied to her ex-husband. she’s always gonna be introduced through this kind of really pathetic lens instead of having her actual work be the selling point (and her work is fantastic when you see the art itself and not the comedian she used to be married to). they’re basically dooming and reducing her to this divorce.
just leave these people alone. they’re grown adults trying to live their private lives after shitty years. if u wanna laugh at funny jokes, go do that. if u wanna look at art and photography about loss and whatnot, go do that too. stop acting like divorce is some sort of moral issue in the fucking 2020s. move on.
anyway, i know i’m biased and i'd been following john, his career and whatever he shared of his life since 2013-14, but more than a bias, it definitely makes me more sensible to the fact that john could still relapse again, and it could be fatal, and he has a lot at stake now (a whole child). so i do believe his well-being is a bigger priority than how upset i was about john and anna’s marriage ending.
he’d talked so much about his addiction and alcohol issues, which started when he was basically a kid, in his stand-up, in interviews, on podcasts, etc., and how drugs and alcohol made him a terrible person and how much work he’s had to put into controlling his urges with substances etc, and i remember him saying in some podcast (before the 2020 relapse) that he realized he needed help with his addictions when he looked at himself from an outside perspective and realized "oh i'm not rooting for that guy anymore" and then he relapses again, gets the help he needs and as soon as he's out, people decide that divorce is absolutely unacceptable and say "we're not rooting for this guy anymore" and it's like lol. nice priorities y'all got there. but anyway. i’m glad he managed to get by
TLDR; his divorce was a normal thing that happens to like 50% of marriages, and it was all blown out of proportion because of unhealthy attachments to celebrities (which i am definitely at a fault here but at least i do my best to have my facts right). people prioritized taking sides on a divorce they were not a part of and making annoying tiktoks with baseless speculation for clout instead of letting a recovering addict just recover, or letting a recent divorcee just move on
with all of that said, the most disappointing thing about john after rehab was the thing with chappelle. it was fucking embarrassing and truly unnecessary, and it’s what made me take a step back from stanning. still wishing him well

Okay, I didn’t actually plan on making this post, but I felt like as a fan of John Mulaney, I need to, plus, if I’m adding the new Rescue Rangers Movie to my fandoms list on my Info post, I need to let my followers know where I stand with the whole situation.
I have no idea what happened over the past like what- 4 days with him? But apparently he hugged Dave Chappelle on stage after he ambushed his show and made transphobic jokes? Am I getting that right?
Okay, let’s take this step by step.
First things first, you guys should all know that I support the LGBTQ+ community WHOLEHEARTEDLY! Hell, I’m even a part of it as a Lesbian!
I also support transgenders as well! If you are trans, that’s so awesome and I am so so proud of you!
And with that, comes this,
I am a fan of John Mulaney. I am a fan of his comedy stand ups, I am a fan of his acting.
John has made some mistakes in the past with his drug addiction, and he powered through it and came back better than ever.
I don’t know who the hell Dave Chapelle is. I haven’t even heard of him until now.
Here’s my thing. I wasn’t there at the event, I didn’t see how it went down, but it sounds like to me Dave was making the jokes, and all John did was hug him and that was that. (Please let me know if I’m wrong, maybe John was making jokes too, I don’t know)
John Mulaney does not sound like the person to make fun of the LGBTQ+ community. The only time he mention about the community was I believe when he made that one joke about everyone thinking he was gay. (Again, please let me know, I could be wrong about this too.)
Which leaves me to this;
Am I going to say what John did was okay? No. Absolutely not. What he did was wrong.
Am I going to say what Dave did was okay? Hell to the fucking no. It is never okay to start making transphobic jokes, even if it is for comedy.
That being said, I truly believe that John Mulaney is a good person with good intentions, and honestly, I am going to keep supporting him. That and well, I just think he’s really funny.
Thank you for reading my opinion on this.
All I want to do is enjoy his jokes and acting and not get into any drama. I’m not a big fan of drama or politics. So yeah, I will probably never do one of these ever again.

im curious why people are saying supernatural is jewish like idk if jewish writers makes an inherently jewish story especially when things like following out the christian apocalypse from revelations and showing a real physical g-d who is just some guy i think is super jarring since though christians claim to be against idolatry they seem totally fine showing depictions of gd or whatever i dont get jesus honestly but jews are far more strict and the idea of showing gds appearance is pretty wrong
WOOF okay um. Maybe this is one of those Tone Doesn’t Come Thru Well Online things but to me this is soo fucking rude… I’m half way between John Mulaney we don't have time to unpack all of that & Ben Wyatt wait it’s gonna bother me if I don’t explain why you’re wrong.
This turned into all my thoughts.
So like. First off, it’s all fun and games. We’re all just joking and joshing and projecting here on destiel dot tumblr dot com and Jupernatural is not an exception in a lot of ways. And so when someone shits on what we’re doing here (yes, even unintentionally) what you get is what happened: oh you think you’re funny well I’m about to be hilarious!!! aka I’m gonna do it even more now out of spite specifically because you said not to. Like it really is all jokes but also you know what’s not a joke? Antisemitism in all its forms, even the casual shit! It’s really draining and it builds up in your veins!! Just. Yeah. You saw a lot of people talking about it today in particular because much like other topics of the day, one thing kicks off a whole other turn of events. So like. one misguided comment that’s playfully antisemitic and then one more little one, and then one big/obvious one launched us (Jewish spn fans) into a whole bigger discussion about antisemitism and erasure of Jews in the spn fandom writ large. It’s one thing to be descriptive, offer a headcanon/what if, or employ a certain mode of analysis. It’s another thing to definitively say This Is The Truth, specifically when to do so overrides something else, especially in this case when what’s being overridden is Jews, an ethnoreligious minority. It’s also another thing to talk over Jews. And mind this has been building for days. Not in a bad way just like, it’s been topical for days and then today one big thing pushed it over the edge to us actually posting abt it (partially bc at that point it’s a pattern, which feels like it needs to be addressed). Like, destiel tumblr is small we pretty much all see all the same posts, and then Jewish spn fans… we’re friends, we chat about life? We joke around together, y’know? If you’re being antisemitic (yes, even unintentionally) we’re all gonna hear abt it. It’s how we stay safe or in this case, curate the online exp.
That being said tho projecting on fiction is like fun and even a good thing at times, and def opens up new modes of analysis. But! the other big thing here is that there IS a LOT of evidence for a Jewish reading of spn, in a lot of ways, and particularly if you know what to look for. Like there’s lots of niche Jewish slang (non-Jews just don’t know these things, and that is a reflection primarily of the writers but once you put it in the script it implies things about the characters too of course), the theology of the early seasons (I’ll get to that in a second), main character motivations (hold on), “Moishe Campbell” implying Mary is (and therefore Sam and Dean are) Jewish, etc.
It’s not surprising to me or anything that non-Jews don’t catch anything/everything Jewish about spn but that Jews catch both sides of it, because that’s just how being part of a marginalized group works. You learn about your own stuff AND the dominant culture’s stuff because that’s how you survive (socially, psychologically, literally). Members of the dominant culture don’t need to learn the marginalized one, are never confronted with it, and so they just.. don’t. I don’t even mean that in a normative or accusatory way, that’s just an observation on the state of things. Non-Jews who aren’t part of another marginalized religion, aka expressed xtians and cultural xtians, have a ton of misconceptions about Judaism, for example, “Jesus was Jewish” and not, “Jesus was an asshole of an apostate who made life harder for Jews at the time in a myriad of ways and whose movement has had a lasting negative impact on world Jewry (and other peoples) for the ensuing millenia”. I truly Don’t Have Time right now to get into the varied and intense history of antisemitism in all its forms but. the point I’m making here is that I’m not shocked I need to explain that life experience shapes your worldview?? So if you’re Jewish you’re always gonna be living life through that version of the world and it does impact you?? Same as anything else?? As unwell as they may be, spn writers aren’t exempt from that. Jewish people writing about xtianity are doing so thru a primarily Jewish understanding and vice versa. Jews can (and did!) write about xtian lore but in a Jewish way! Some core Jewish themes: wrestling with angels/G-d, questioning G-d, IF there’s a G-d they will have to beg MY forgiveness, the afterlife isn’t really a big thing so all that matters is your time on earth, make amends to others directly and thru your actions rather than seeking absolution with G-d, you are not obligated to complete the work nor may you abandon it, etc… So that’s the other reasoning why we say “spn is Jewish” based solely on it being written by Jews. Rather than Death of The Author, let’s look at what the author has imbued the story with, both intentionally and unintentionally. And re: Chuck and idolatry… I don’t even know where to start with the way you phrased this but. the Jewish Spn Writers of Note are apparently Kripke, Gamble, and Edlund. All of whom stopped writing for the show years before the Chuck Is God plot!
Like yes it feels very stupid to be writing a thousand words on antisemitism and supernatural but like. this is a spn blog run by a Jew so. This whole thing is also just the same every time. This is very representative of typical casual antisemitism.

Why censor a fandom event?
Do the mods for a fandom event have the right to  make restrictions on content? Sure. They’re volunteers running their own event.
But. Fandom is a culture that we build together. If we were just people enjoying media in our own homes, we would not be a community. But we’re not. We talk to each other, reblog each other’s amazing art, comment on AO3, squee in Discord channels over ideas, and so on. That’s what makes fandom great: we build it collectively. And like any culture, we have some shared norms. For example, since AO3 is a big influence on our culture, tagging has become a cultural norm in fandom. We tag for the “big four” warnings on AO3, and increasingly, tag more and more details of content to help people find what they like and avoid what they don’t.
Fandom events like Big Bangs shape fandom culture, too, though. They bring together people who might otherwise not know each other, and have a tendency to dominate the fandom conversation for a time. Restrictions in a Big Bang have a chilling effect on content creators. That means that some work will not get written because of these restrictions, and also that people’s opinions towards this kind of content may be influenced on a larger scale. I personally find this unfortunate, as some of the things on the restricted list are things I’ve written about, uh, a lot. But aside from just me, there are larger implications to consider. Read more about the history of strikethrough and content restriction to learn about who is harassed and excluded when fandom culture turns against “questionable” content.
I posit that restrictions like this are not always The Norm™ in fandom events, nor should they be. In a fandom like the Witcher, whose canon includes everything on the restricted list, most of them graphically, I believe content of a similar nature should be welcome in fandom content. I ran my first Big Bang in 2009, and have participated in half a dozen bangs and reverse bangs since. None of them had content restrictions (here’s an example of a Big Bang without content restrictions that’s been running since 2011). Some Big Bangs do; sometimes this is dependent on the canon content, more often it depends on who has power and influence in the fandom. Here’s a case for why not to include restrictions in future events.
What are these restrictions meant to do?
As I understand it, these restrictions are meant to make things more inclusive by allowing more people to participate. Are they successful in that? It’s possible they allow different people to participate. As with many things, there are competing access needs here. More on that below. But let’s look at what “making things more inclusive” means in practice.
Problem: We want to allow participation from people who don’t want to come into contact with dark content.
OK. Let’s help participants avoid coming into contact with dark content if they don’t want to. How might they come into contact with dark content?
1.) People might hear upsetting conversations in Discord chat
Solution: Ask people to post in the appropriate channel. Use a “walk away” rule to encourage people to leave the channel if a conversation comes up that they’re not comfortable with. If you want to go further, you could have people warn for certain topics, or restrict darker topics to a specific channel, though this runs up against a different issue (see below).
2) People might see content in the claims that they don’t like, or don’t want to work on.
Solution: Usually in a Big Bang the artists look at a list of summaries and tags and choose which fic(s) they’d like to work on. No artist is going to be forced to work on anything they don’t want to. Even artists who enjoy dark content are often illustrating something other than the darkest, most graphic, or most explicit moment of a fic. In a claiming situation, you can have writers tag their fics, just like they would on AO3, to allow artists to filter out content they’re not interested in or that they would find upsetting.
2.5) We won’t find any artist to work on certain pieces.
Solution: This happens sometimes. You could put out a call for more artist participants, allow artists to claim a second piece if they want, or you may have to tell a creator that there’s not a match for them. That is a bummer, but this happens sometimes, especially in fandoms where writers vastly outnumber artists. But in no scenario will any artist be forced to write for a piece that squicks them.
3) People might see content in the Big Bang collection that they don’t like.
Solution: This one’s pretty easy. Tagging. Tagging has been used on AO3 since its inception to help people avoid content they do not want to see. People don’t have to engage with content they don’t want to see if it is properly tagged.
4) The mods don’t personally want to engage with the content.
Solution: Find a mod who will, so that mods who don’t want to don’t have to! You can get a volunteer to do this, I guarantee.
5) I want to encourage the creation of lighter or SFW content.
Solution: I get that. Say so! Explain what content you welcome, and phrase what you’re looking for in a positive way (e.g. “We require that content be T rated or below and have a generally positive outlook and an upbeat ending.”) rather than what you don’t want. Be clear, specific, and up front about it, so that you connect with the creators you’re hoping will participate.
6) I think this content should not exist.
This is the one I can’t help you with. If the reason you’re banning content is because, consciously or unconsciously, you think that it’s morally reprehensible, or that the people who make it are bad, I do not have a solution to offer.
Competing Access Needs
I’m not going to get too far into the weeds on how making a list of restricted topics is impossible, because others have addressed this point. No matter what list you come up with, someone out there will find something you failed to list, but that you feel should be restricted. What to do? If they’ve already completed a fic, tell them to leave? Tell them they have to change it? Let it slide? There will be endless questions about what is and isn’t allowed, which is time-consuming and exhausting for mods, and paralyzing for creators. How do I know if this scene is un-graphic enough? Will I need to revise my whole fic? Will I get kicked out entirely if I write the wrong thing? Will some participants get preferential treatment or the benefit of the doubt because of their identities or their connections?
Censorship brings up competing access needs. Someone doesn’t want to see non-con. Someone is writing non-con fic to work through their own trauma. Someone is writing it for other reasons. Can you accommodate all these folks? I would say yes, in the ways detailed above. But when you start restricting content (as in Strikethrough or Boldthrough, discussed in the history link above), you’re not wielding a scalpel. You’re wielding an anvil, and you’re gonna crush things you didn’t mean to crush. Again, check out the history link to see who gets crushed.
So… what to do?
Do I think people should change the rules for the events they’re running? No (john mulaney we are well past that.gif). As I said, people who are running their own events have the prerogative to restrict them for whatever audience they’re hoping to reach. Questioning fandom practices is not “shitting on” anyone (and hey--no scat allowed).
What I would really like is for Witcher fandom to have a think about how we want to proceed as a community. What should be the norm? Witcher fandom culture (in its current form, i.e. big) is still relatively young. There can be variation, sure: Discord server vibes vary wildly, for example. But in the big events or activities that we hope will be open to the largest part of the community, how do we want to intentionally foster the maximum amount of great content about our favorite things? There are ways to be inclusive that do not involve censorship, and I believe we should use them.

Is this a new era for this blog? The era where it turns into a Strawberry Shortcake blog? A curious new direction!
Not exactly. I’m still LoZ, first and foremost—I’m just waiting on the edge of my seat for more material to work with around Bo2W.
My Zelda content comes in three flavors—me being a fan of something and gushing about it, my making theories and worldbuilding, and answering asks.
As far as being a fan and gushing, I’ve already...sort of done it? What I have to say about the games I do like has sort of already been said. I’ve already tried my hand at LU art (which wound up being difficult and giving me burnout). Even the games I DON’T like, I’ve gone into detail on extensively as to why.
For theories/worldbuilding, I’ve got over 100 posts of that. I LOVE it, it’s really fun, but I’ve kind of run dry on the things I’ve observed about the world that I need to share. I’ve gone off about how Timeshift stones work, why a Diamond protects you from guardians, etc.
Then asks are REALLY good for inspiration. I’ve got two in my inbox atm that I’m working on—Zant’s height, and the purpose of the Great Plateau’s Eastern Abbey. But the downside of depending on asks for new ideas is just that; they’re asks, sent by other people, so when they’re gone, they’re gone.
I do still make Zelda posts unprompted—the Poes being Hyrule’s grim reapers, why scale is important—but I’m no longer at the point where every second of every day, I’m working on a groundbreaking Zelda theory. That’s why my content has sort of shifted to be a variety of things—namely Skyrim, Transformers, and now Strawberry Shortcake.
Skyrim caught my attention because, memes aside, it’s a really fun game with lore on the same level as LoZ. And yeah, it has its own flaws, but it’s incredible that I can go from town to town and find an ancient ruin between them, or discover a secret murder plot, or help an orphan avenge his abusive treatment at the hands of the orphanage lady and get kidnapped by an assassin cult for the effort.
Transformers is one of those ones that I’ve loved longer than LoZ itself. The worldbuilding, especially in IDW 2005, is AMAZING, and the fandom ran with it. There’s this thing called “conjunx endura” which is basically marriage, and the fandom decided “it means you literally merge souls for a few minutes and it’s incredible.”
And now Strawberry Shortcake. That started as a meme (the John Mulaney one), then I sat back and was like “you know what? I liked Strawberry. I’m gonna run away with it” and dived headfirst into making my own version.
Does that mean my blog isn’t gonna have the cool Sheikah theme anymore, or that my icon isn’t going to be a photoshopped Spirit Tracks force gem? No. In fact, when we get our next Bo2W trailer, you can bet your poker chips I’m going to be dissecting it frame by frame and running in circles. I’m still working on some gameplay stuff I want to do on Twitch, and am lead developer of Keys to Victory.
But Strawberry Shortcake is a low cost high entertainment thing for me atm. I’m having fun with it, I’m not stressing out about quality levels, and it’s something that I haven’t seen done before. It’s my own little fluffy plush to hug when I need it. And other people seem to like it too, so that’s encouraging!
Tldr: No, I’m still a Zelda blog. But Link can have little a shortcake. As a treat.

Me: doesn't know anything about Witcher and so didn't read your post about it; I mainly follow you for RWBY takes
Also me: reads an anon call you an idiot for having the 'incorrect' Witcher opinion
Me again: goes back and reads your Witcher post even though I don't know anything about the material because now I want to know what's wrong with this 'Yen' person
Ooooh yikes, that character sounds emotionally abusive as hell. I guess, it's good to know that RWBY isn't the only fandom out there where you're "supposed" to ignore and deny that a character *has flaws* and you're considered "wrong" if you *personally dislike* them for said flaws.
I don't understand why some people can't get it through their heads that no single character/show/story is perfect, and that some people like/dislike different things. There's nothing wrong with a character who has flaws. Those flaws don't need to be 'dismissed' and 'denied' in order to like a character (like you said with the John Mulaney voice; liking a flawed character is fine) but no viewer should be forced to like a character and told that they're 'misreading things' or 'misrepresenting things' or are just 'too stupid' for not pretending those flaws never existed and forcing themselves to like a character anyway.
I guess there really is a 'Yen' for every 'Yang.'
That is a god tier level pun, anon, fabulously done! 😂
More seriously though, I think the closest comparison I could make (which, admittedly, isn't a great comparison but I'm doing my best here) would be to Weiss. Yen improves in the later Witcher books. Weiss improves in the later RWBY volumes. Yet some fans are still uncomfortable with Weiss' racism. So imagine for a moment (actually we probably don't have to imagine, I'm sure this drama exists somewhere online lol) that someone disliked Weiss because of where her character started out. It could be any reason from the complex "Sorry, RWBY didn't give her development enough nuance. I can't back the character who once compared the minority to a trash can and then just... forgot about her racism I guess??" to a simple "She's so arrogant and snobby. Yeah, I get that that's her thing and it's meant to just be a mask or whatever, but it drives me up the wall." Now imagine that whenever you mentioned disliking Weiss fans came out of the woodwork to remind you about her amazing character development. And nothing else you might say matters. How RWBY handled that development, or how much content we got with Weiss' flaws on full display, or how that development fits into the larger themes of the franchise, or that you're just not inclined towards the Ice Queen type characters... if you don't adore her now that she's developed you clearly didn't understand her. She's best girl! The whole point is that she moves from unlikable to, you know, the best. So you're like no... I get it... I understand how characters work... but that doesn't mean I have to like her. But they're not listening. It's two different conversations going on. A "I just don't like this character" vs. "I do like this character, so if you disagree you must not know how to read a story 'correctly.'"
Now take that very generalized situation and apply it to a character who is not an abused teenager, but rather a nearly 100yo sorceress; not spewing rhetoric taught by her abuser, but pulling informed stunts like taking over her future lover's mind to seek revenge on others; not improving very early in the series, but rather working against a franchise where, roughly, 4/5ths of the material keeps her in that pre-growth state. All wrapped up in a love story that hinges on non-consensual magic tying these people together for all time. There's a lot to unpack there! Personally, I think there are a lot of reasons to dislike Yen and I'm constantly surprised that so many in the Witcher fandom don't, as you say, just shrug and accept that as a given. She's a polarizing character. People are likely to either love her or hate her, with little in between. Yet one of the most common arguments (in both Witcher and RWBY) is that this character is The Best because they're so well-rounded, complex, nuanced in their development and flaws... but the flipside that few acknowledge is that this complexity/flaws/need for development can lead to just... not liking them. Precisely because of those things. Yen is a great character. That's not the same thing as her being a character everyone has to like. "But she's not supposed to be likeable! That's part of the point of her character." Well then congratulations, the author succeeded in making me not like her. Why are you mad again?
Honestly though, the Witcher and RWBY fandoms both suffer from that need to dismiss all flaws. Yes, even while simultaneously insisting that those flaws are what make them a great character. We've seen that with Ruby: she's not perfect, of course she's made mistakes, look she's so upset about how things have turned out... but also no, she shouldn't have done anything different, ever, how dare you criticize her. I'm not neck deep into this fandom so I definitely can't speak to all pockets, but I've been watching the Shadow & Bone adaptation (read the books a while back) and it has been SO REFRESHING to see discussions where people just... talk about how much they love The Darkling while also acknowledging how very messed up he is. Like, rather than bending over backwards to absolve him of everything to justify liking the Darkling/Alina ship (because purity culture, I guess?) fans are just going, "Oh their relationship is a mess I'm so here for it 👀" I mean, don't get me wrong, I'd bet everything I own that the same drama exists because what fandom doesn't have it? But it feels like if you grabbed an average fan, shook them by the proverbial collar, and went, "But don't you know he's manipulating her? Don't you know that relationship is abusive?!?!" they'd be all, "No shit, that's why they're interesting as a fictional couple." I have no idea why I personally latch onto some "problematic" ships and despise others, but I honestly think I might have been at least slightly more keen on Geralt/Yen if the books and fandom acknowledged the problems in that relationship more, rather than painting it with a generalized, "But they love each other, and are meant for each other, so everything else is fine" brush. When you point out things like, "Geralt was sure that Yen was going to attack him with her magic for disagreeing with her... that's kind of not great..." the reaction tends to be an essay detailing why that's not actually a problem, you ignorant person, rather than just going, "Oh yeah, the relationship has so many problems. That's one of the reasons I love it."
ANYWAY what I love is that you're out here reading nonsense posts for a franchise you know nothing about, anon lol. I'm the exact same when I see people I follow going on passionately about fandoms I'm not in. I've got the imaginary popcorn like, "John Doe did what now? Oh yes, spill the tea."

hey fuck faces (my new fandom name <3), so i’m thinking about writing a john mulaney fanfic on wattpad and i need some help. (also there’s a good chance i won’t actually post it because i usually delete everything i write because i think it’s almost always trash but i’m still writing it for me)
so i have my oc kind of laid out. i know her face claim, her job, most aspects of her personality, and i’ve kinda got her and john’s relationship dynamic planned out but i don’t know what i’m going to do in terms of the plot. i know that i want them to meet because she’ll be hosting an ep of snl but idek if i want it to be at the same time he’s working on the show as a writer. like maybe she meets pete there and then she meets john through him? or do i want his little rat-writer ass to meet her while he has to write sketches with and for her?
i also don’t have many ideas for conflict and honestly the overall plot of the story. like i’m usually better at writing fanfics for shows because they already have plot lines there and i just have to add some characters and not think too terribly much about extra plot but with this type of fanfiction i don’t exactly know where to go after the meeting and the start of the story.
any suggestions? i believe my anon is on if you’d rather use that. seriously i would love any of your creative asses’ input. please and thank you.

Yeah, I’m not saying Darren is a bad person or anything, he’s always been said to be one of the nicest people on set and he’s friends with literally everyone, but I’m just trying to understand. I am BIPOC, and I definitely have no qualms calling Lea racist, but I understand if Samantha and other black cast members specifically don’t. But it does bother me when white people use what Amber said as a reason to excuse Lea’s racist behavior. And Lea is still very well protected, I don’t blame Amber at all for keeping it lowkey. And the way people immediately attacked Samantha for what she said, too. Lea strikes me as someone who chooses who to be nice to and who to bully, and obviously she was mostly nice to the main cast + Becca, but even when Naya called out her diva behavior she turned on her too. Naya said she ignored her for all of S6. I have a feeling if other cast mates had spoken up like that they would’ve gotten the Lea Michele treatment too. And the media would’ve sided with Lea every time, just like they did to Naya. And she had that falling out with Dianna too. But still, the thought of him (and other cast members) knowing what went down on that set for years (based off what Heather said) and still being friends with her afterwards....it really doesn’t sit right with me at all. I know Darren’s not racist or a terrible person, and I know all the cast’s relationship with Lea is complicated. Some of them are probably still friends with her, but privately. But the fact that it’s public that Darren’s still friends with Lea isn’t good for his reputation. It doesn’t make him look good to be friends with someone who got exposed very publicly and loudly by a lot of people. It makes me wonder what the cast members who got mistreated by Lea think of it....
I just read this article about John Mulaney and his fandom. This man is going through it. Rehab, divorce, trying to get back on the road with all that going on. Meanwhile, his fans projected this whole persona on him as this sweet, innocent non problematic person. Now he’s gone to rehab, filed for divorce and has a new celebrity girlfriend and all these fans that projected their issues and ideals in to him are spiraling because he’s not their perfect cinnamon roll, he’s a real person dealing with some fucked up shit but they based on their hopes and dreams about the male species on to him and they. Can’t. Deal. And y’all mf have been doing this with Darren (and Chris) for a damn decade.
I don’t see anyone questioning how Idk Jacob must feel knowing Becca is still friends with Lea after Lea was so rude to the rest of the newbies. Because you have not projected a persona onto Becca where she needs to be a (tm) Nice Person all the gotdamn time.
The cast is not sitting in a group chat butthurt that Darren is friends with Lea. These are people in their 30’s. They are grown with mortgages and real things to worry about.
If you feel that you can’t support Darren anymore because he was pictured holding the baby of someone you think is racist, do you. Don’t buy his music, unfollow his socials. But this fantasy about how hurt the cast must be by this friendship is fan fiction. You are projecting your own issues on to strangers. Sorry to be harsh, but my patience with this is running out and y’all need to grow up and remove the rose colored glasses. You are not going to agree with every decision Darren makes. If you need to agree with every decision to be someone’s fan, you are in for alot of disappointment.

Festival Fun SQ - Part 1 - It’s already all over the place, and we’re just starting.
Tumblr media
Okay, let’s do this!
Tumblr media
Ooooh, I love this loading screen.
2 out of 4 pairings are actually together in the headcanon, so I approve!
Tumblr media
Ah, yes. We all know that every love story always starts with... gardening? Anyway, JC, can you pick up the pace already?
I promised myself I’ll try to be patient, but...
Okay, okay.
Positive attitude. Let’s continue...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ahhhhh.... Care to elaborate a bit, MC?
I feel like we need a bit more context.
Tumblr media
Jesus Christ, who did you murder?
Tumblr media
So, it’s been a while since I played this game...
But you all see that dragon in the task-bar, right?
Charlie, what did you do?
Charlie: First the task-bar, then the world!
(Future me: I get it, it’s a clubs thing... I’m sharing some of my original notes too, okay? Just roll with it...)
Tumblr media
Hagrid: Nothin’ like child-labor, I always say.
Tumblr media
Just wait till 2020, mate.
No one is laughing now...
Tumblr media
You’re talking to Luna... obviously, class would be the best part for her.
I can see her and Rowan squealing in excitement already.
Wait a minute, Rowan’s going to be here, right? Right, JC?!
It’s a year-5 achievement. You better make sure he’s there!
Tumblr media
Well, that’s a huge leap... I think you added 10 levels by mistake.
Not that I'm complaining, but...
It caught me off guard.
Tumblr media
Why do I feel like Tonks is contemplating their friendship as Luna’s talking?
Tumblr media
I can’t be the only one that immediately thought of the "There’s a horse in the hospital” bit by John Mulaney.
Tumblr media
Either Tonks has the biggest “bro” attitude out there, or she lives vicariously through MC.
Tumblr media
Damn, so bitter...
But he’s 100% right, to be fair.
JC, lamp-shading it won’t make it less creepy, you know. I hated how everyone ganged up on her in the Valentine’s Day SQ. I really hope it will be a bit more subtle this time.
Tumblr media
You mean the one where you’re still not a romantic option?
Don’t get me wrong, I think it’s cool they added Jae and Chiara, but I don’t get why Badeea is an option but Liz isn’t. It’s not like Badeea is super popular in the fandom. I really hope some day my girl Liz would get the love she deserves.
Tumblr media
Wait, wait, wait, wait... Stop, stop, stop.
This is happening during year 5, right?
Okay, I actually really like it because in my headcanon Barnaby remains good friends with Ismelda and Merula, so it fits perfectly.
Okay, let’s get back to the plot.
Tumblr media
Is Badeea painting a Puffskein in the background?
(Once again the background sub-plot is more interesting than the main plot.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Wow, the change in attitude once MC arrives is... Yikes.
Sure, JC. Merula likes MC. Very convincing.
Tumblr media
Stop making me relate to Ismelda!
Tumblr media
Again, I feel like I’m going to mention it a lot - it’s a year-5 SQ, JC!
You better not shove year-6 Ben down my throat.
Also, Rowan is nowhere to be found... You’re so damn lazy!
My angel deserves so much better than this... At least now I know that JC doesn’t give a shit about players that aren’t up-to-date with the latest chapters...
Tumblr media
But why, though? I get why Penny, but Merula is not popular and she never showed any kind of social-initiative before. She wants to be the strongest witch, but it doesn’t have anything to do with a popularity-based title.
If I remember correctly. she criticized MC in one of the previous SQs for listening to Penny and said that power is more important than popularity.
So why would she want to win something that is completely dependent on a popularity status?
Oh right, it’s a JC game. There is no logic or consistency. Sorry. Carry on...
Tumblr media
I was so bored, I didn’t even notice the “neither” choice...
Tumblr media
Okay, let’s just be a supportive friend, then.
Tumblr media
I mean, if it’s between Penny and Merula, then it’s a no-brainer.
But literally anyone else, and my answer would change. (Chiara FTW!)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Awww, see what I mean by her being a bro?
So damn supportive when she's not screwing everything up.
Tumblr media
I-
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I gotta say, I like this little Ravenclaw gathering.
I wish there were more activities for MC and the other characters from her house. Because even though Tulip is not technically a part of this, it’s still nice to have a scene with Talbott, Andre and Badeea.
Also, this skunk spell... Tulip is going to abuse it, I guarantee it.
Tumblr media
To be fair, just making all the outfits is enough work already.
But wait, isn’t he a dateable option as well? I’m confused.
Tumblr media
I said it before, but in these type of SQs, Andre is the best!
Of course she understands, mate. You deserve way more than you’re getting out of this whole deal, trust me.
Tumblr media
Haha, Tulip’s blank stare in the background... Cue the “They ask you how you are, and you just have to say you're fine, when you're not really fine...” meme.
Tumblr media
Can we all embrace a collective headcanon where Andre’s actually getting compensation for all his hard work?
Luna has enough money to spare, there’s no way this bloke is not getting paid for this.
Tumblr media
That’s usually how it works, mate.
Tumblr media
No, no, no... Please don’t make it that everyone’s pushing her into a corner again, it was so awkward!
I can’t go through it again...
Also, it’s Luna. She chooses her dates, not the other way around.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Called it!
Though, to be fair, who didn’t see it coming?
Tumblr media
Guess...
-------------------
Wow, they really didn’t give me a lot to work with, huh?
Well, the post is long enough, so... Hopefully there will be enough interesting stuff happening in the next post.

Sex, Intimacy and Buddie (better known as I have a lot of feelings about this show, some of which are related to the before mentioned topics) - Part 5
Hej alla,
hur cool att du är här! Vad kul!
(Kay, that’s it, all the Swedish I remember from two semesters of not really studying, so it’s probably also wrong, uups?)
(Still passed though.)
You guys! We made it! And please, do not imagine this read to you in a happy voice. I am sobbing. I already miss it!
(Also, if you do imagine how I might sound please consider due to several unforseeable circumstances of student exchanges in my youth I have a very weird mixture of British and American English, which basically translates to sounding like either of those doing a bad impression of the other accent - or you know, Australian.)
I’m really having a hard time finishing this meta because I loved doing it so much and I loved talking to all of ya’ll so much. This is a sad moment. (HEY, what if ya’ll came and visited my askbox and I get to discuss random stuff with you!)
Just a fair warning now, somewhere hidden in the middle: this thing is fucking long! We are talking longer than Season 2, so be warned!
Anyways, in case someone is new:
part 1 - part 2 - part 3 - part 4
And some general info:
This meta was supposed to be a lot shorter and only talk about how both Buck and Eddie use sex to distract their respective partners from whatever topic they actually wanted to talk about but since I decided to rewatch the show to make sure I don’t miss any such scenes, it has exploded a bit and taken on more topics
I should also mention that I am a Buddie shipper and while I tried, you will find several references and arguments for the ship in this Meta, not all of which necessarily call for a romantic pairing but just: These two are deeply connected and you cannot look at one without discussing the other and they are each other’s strongest emotional connection.
I should also preface this by saying that the whole of the 118 has some obvious intimacy / commitment issues except Bobby (which is sort of surprising) but *John Mulaney voice* we don’t have time to unpack all of that!
On another note I cuss a little in this Meta because my parents let me listen to TicTacToe as a small child and after that it never stuck that cussing is wrong so, uhm, parental supervision is advised or something
This Meta has FIVE parts. Season 1 and 2 make up one part each, while Season 3, due to something pesky called feelings and the fact that I can’t shut up, has been split in three parts: Part 3 aka Season 3A, which spans 3.01 - 3.10, Part 4 which spans 3.11 - 3.17 and this part which is officially only one episode - but still manages to be just as long. Yay! (Sorry.)
And now for the last time for now: part 5 (also called „You’re a godless, half-witted himbo, Evan Buckley, and I wish I loved you less so I could talk about it more“)
Episode 3.18:
My oh my, this episode.
I loved it but I also … didn’t.
It was way too much and at times felt a little rushed and the pacing was just weird.
I mean I loved the party but did we really need 5 min of it? Did we really need Josh’s storyline and Michael’s so randomly in the middle of the episode? Could we have gotten a longer apology scene? Why the weird phone call?
Let’s talks about all of that! (It’s why you clicked read more, right?)
Ya’ll, I gotta be honest, I am from Europe and I regularly go to places via train and while it’s better than a bus, I can’t see anyone falling in love with that! I am just gonna assume Abby did not go by train in Germany. Or Austria. Or Italy. Listen, I like trains just fine but man, do they not look like what we see here!
But also, as someone who has watched Community, the train lady saying „This isn’t Subway“ in an Episode where the human embodiment of Subway acts is very very funny to me.
I feel like I don’t have to point out how significant the cut from Abby saying „They stopped waiting for me a long time ago“ to Buck and Eddie discussing Chris is. Everyone has talked about it by now. But yes, it registered, as did the fact that Abby is dating a single father - while Buck is apparently basically dating a single father. But, you know, that probably means nothing! *chugs a whole bottle of wine*
The co-parenting was very cute and honestly I feel for Christopher and Carla and the firefam is Buddie does happen because they will try to out-protect each other and it will be glorious and also Chris might never get to leave the nest ever. That poor boy.
Sidenote: We as a fandom have not talked enough about Eddie’s reaction to Bobby yodelling and I think that’s very tragic of us. Because his reaction is the best, all: „Is he - should I - no, you know what, fuck it, Eddie, ignore this, that’s too much, you can not unpack all of this, just move on. Brush it off!“
Just watch his face ya’ll, it’s great! (He will be talking to Frank about this, I know it.)
Sidenote: Also Eddie in 3.15 / 3.15. / 3.17 / 3.18 > any other Eddie, and no, I do not take criticism. That boy has always been fine but the military hair cut or what ever is doing things to me as do his happy eyes and the smiles - my god, the smiles!
It does seem significant though the way the show focused so heavily on Buck’s reaction and - as it had been the case since „Eddie Begins“ - we basically don’t see Eddie without Buck and that’s weird. That feels pointed and important, the fact that after realising, who his family is, Eddie basically never leaves Buck’s side if they are at work.
Also the way Chimney and Bobby look at each other in between, yeah, again, making fun of Christopher’s dads! Like, even if you don’t read this as Buddie, you cannot not read this scene as somewhat confirming the „Buck is Christopher’s other parent“-thing. And I know I answered an ask on Tuesday(?) where I said he wasn’t really but yeah, he is getting there. The whole season spent a lot of time focusing on Buck’s relationship with Christopher and even if it isn’t about Buddie, I still think it will cause trouble in Season 4 if Eddie begins dating again, specifically Chris’ teacher.
I also need to talk about Eddie and control, because like I said in part 4 Eddie needs to learn to let go of Christopher a little which is what we see here happening, specifically through the lens of making Buck even more overprotective than Eddie to really cement the fact in all our minds that Eddie is trying to let his son have some freedom. I am so proud of him, you guys! He just signed up for the worst two weeks of his life, he will be dying on the inside out of concern and Buck will pester him every two seconds about whether or not Chris is fine. This is why these three haven’t been to Disneyland, ya’ll! Eddie wouldn’t be able to handle it without murdering either Buck or himself. I’m sorry.
And speaking of how the episode is cut:
One thing I love about 911 is the way it always makes me consider new character pairings and connections I myself would have never thought of, in the context of this episode: Athena, Josh - and Eddie.
And look, the Athena and Josh thing is daunting enough but you can probably still catch my train of thought, because both are recent victims of assault and the episode shows them dealing with trauma and confronting their attacker, even though in Athena’s case it was just theoretical. But now you’re probably wondering, okay, why Eddie?
Well, for starters, what the episode made me realise, whether on purpose on not through cutting from scene to scene is how many similarities there are between Eddie and Athena, both of them always trying to be in control, both of them more prone to violence / more okay with violence than the others, both soft underneath, both with a tendency to let anger take over, both considered to be extremely capable, both with an intense need for control, both straight talker.
And now I will obviously not pretend that letting your child go to sleep away camp for two weeks is similar too confronting your assailant who beat you up, but still: facing fears and letting go of control vs. finding different ways to regain control is the theme for these three in the episode (or this Season in Eddie’s case) and I like it.
I really like what they did with Athena in general in this episode, because, while I don’t think we will see her as a civilian in Season 4, I am confident they will address her trauma and PTSD - especially if they only do a short time jump of say three months and not jump all the way to January / February which is when it might air if we’re lucky.
And I do think the comparison between her and Josh is very nicely done as both characters did the whole brushing it off / moving forward / I am not fazed by any of it thing, as we as viewers clearly saw what utter bullshit this was.
Which of course connects nicely to Mr. „Brush it off and move on“ who has spent a whole season learning to not just move on but to talk about it. A lesson he might have learned? At least that’s what the episode made me think, from the way he came to Buck / the firefam to talk about Christopher and camp to the way he so clearly tried to get Buck to open up about Abby. Jup, that is some motherforking growth right there!
I also wanna say hi to Brooke Shields and say I hope we see her again, cause her character seemed interesting!
And I do appreciate Athena herself addressing the fact that she messed up a little by not calling for back-up right away. This is not meant in a victim blaming way, I just think Athena is very used to handling everything on her own and not asking for help and it is interesting to see how that changes, now that it has backfired on her once.
And now we are getting into the Abby of it all and if anyone reading this is anti Buddie or severely pro Abby this is the moment to either leave or scroll down some more, because ya’ll I won’t really hold back!
(I think.)
I wanna begin by saying, uhm, Abigail, honey? Can you not read what is written on Eddie’s and everyone else’s helmets? Yes, he is from the 118, it literally says so on like every article of clothing he is wearing, omg!
(Writers, do better, that made an already unlikeable character seem downright stupid.)
Now it is very interesting, that the first person we see Abby interact with directly from the main cast (I’m counting the phone call with Maddie as indirectly) is Eddie who doesn’t know who Abby is but who is close enough to Buck to know the second he sees her who she is. The episode spends just as much time focusing on his reaction to Abby as 3.15 did on Buck’s reaction and tbh that feels … fairly non platonic. Of course we can always go back to „Stuck“ and remember what Hen said about Tatiana but still. That was one scene, here we have several scenes highlighting Eddie’s reaction to Abby and just, what do you want me to do with this, Tim?
I mean, the meeting scene literally goes like this:
Eddie *talking to Abby* > cut to Buck, coming closer > Buck: „Abby?“ > cut to both Abby and *Eddie* > Abby: „Buck?“ while the camera is still on her and Eddie > cut to just Eddie’s face having a realisation > cut to Buck
That is some very extreme focus if we’re being honest.
Also her panic reminds everyone of Buck in 3.15, right? The way she is screaming, disregarding her own safety, all desperate to get to her fiancé. Yeah.
I like how Eddie lets them talk and then steps in when he realises Buck is too shocked and only then rushes off, nearly touching Buck. Too be honest I didn’t realise his hand didn’t make contact until I saw some gifs of the scene.
Also the way Oliver plays this scene? The whole scene is so painful and I love it a lot, his whole delivery is so very painful, from the way he says „We’ll find him.“ to the „Um, what’s his name?“ to the „No. Oh. Don’t worry about it.“ because you can actually see him go through all the emotions from devastation to being so very pissed off and then locking that shit down!
Listen, I know it was teased that Buck had to grapple between being a professional and his personal feelings and I think this episode is him being a professional, because this is Buck and Buck cares so for Buck being a professional means risking his life for some guy on the train, regardless of his promise and who he is engaged to.
Sidenote: This episode really brought home why Eddie is a firefighter and not a paramedic, because his bedside manner is shit. „This is gonna hurt a little“. Way to downplay, dude!
Also, while I do love the idea of Buck getting to be Captain one day, I think this episode shows why he won’t be. Because even when he is being professional and having great ideas Buck still cares too much and is unable to make the hard decisions. Compare it to Eddie, who, yes, does say „If we have to choose“, but also is willing to make the choice. Because sometimes you have to. (And now I’m crying a little and oh my, this is why I do not work in any job that has me make such decisions because I could not imagine living with myself if I did.)
I do think however Buck did good, from the way he talked to Sam being his usual self and all.
I’m also such a fan of smart Buck and him standing up for himself with Bobby because he doesn’t get to do this often enough and because it is important for him as a character to learn to trust his own judgement and not depend so much on Bobby’s approval. So yay, my baby is growing up!
(Also, obviously Bobby’s worry was also about Buck and not just Athena, we’ve had half a season of Bobby doing the most to „protect“ Buck, mostly against his will, so I really like that Buck got to do the rescue his way in the end, because it shows growth on both sides.)
Now, Eddie and his dramatic reaction in this scene, first of all:
I wanna take a moment to remember the fact that Edmundo Diaz, my main man, my love, my absolute ray of grey sunshine, apparently lacks any kind of self-awareness - or he would stop acting all high and mighty around Buck because the second Buck is out of view he like, drops any pre-tense of having critical thinking skills or something akin to self-preservation and does the next thing that enters his bird brain no matter the consequences. So a moment of silence for Hen, Chimney and Bobby and all they had to go through in the 6/7 months between Buck getting crushed by a ladder truck and coming back to work, because Buck? They can at least make fun of. Or tell him: yo, bro, you being stupid!
You can’t do that with Eddie - because when Eddie does stupid he gone nearly die but like in a heroic way where he still ends up saving himself and you have to be impressed. Urgh, the nerve!
So, you know what, how about, Mr. Edmundo Diaz, you do not judge Buck for wanting to save people and risk his own life UNTIL WE HAVE FORGOTTEN ABOUT YOU CUTTING THAT MOTHERFORKING ROPE? Got me? Thanks. (I’m not mad, I’m just disappointed, dude.)
(But then again EVERY MOTHERFORKING CHARACTER ON THIS DAMN SHOW SUFFERS FROM CRAZY STUPID DISEASE and no, I do not take any criticism.)
Also I loved Eddie’s dialog and how clearly the whole thing about the promise slipped out if the way his hands closed are anything to go by (or was he imagining punching some sense either into himself or Buck because in both cases: Call Frank, Eddie!). Anyway the way he just left, like, „I can not deal with ya’ll’s stupidity, I am leaving!“ has me shook! That is the top tear entertainment I expect from my favourite show and I love them for it!
I do love how both Buck and Eddie are in protector mode in this episode, Buck with Sam and Abby and Eddie with Buck, especially because if we’re being honest, which we are (this is a safe space ya’ll), Eddie is the one being far more unprofessional! For his standards, of course.
But this is the closest Eddie has come to showing some form of violence since 3a viewed chronologically (because 3.15 happened mostly in the past) yet Buck is just being is usual too caring self. It’s telling and it’s interesting and I’m just gonna say one thing:
„No one is good when it’s personal.“ - because for Buck with Sam it isn’t really personal (though that won’t hit him until later) but for Eddie it kinda is because he is worried about Buck. (And now I did spell it out! But, oh well, I did say we were gonna do some Buddie right around here!)
Sidenote: what exactly was the meaning / reason of that phone call between Abby and her stepdaughter? We already knew Sam had children and from the was she was looking outside they could have had her just see Buck and step out of the tent to watch the rescue, so why do it this way I ask? Why this incredibly unnecessary phone call that felt so very awkward?
Also I am not gonna talk about that scene right now, because I get mad every single time!
So I will just leave a link to what I’ve said about this scene so far here *and* give you the notes I took on this scene:
ALWAYS READY TO DIE
godless heathen of a man he makes me so angry i hate him i hate this show I wanna leave
EVAN BUCKLEY LOOKS GOD IN THE EYES AND SAYS NAH BRO NOT TODAY
(It’s not like his suicidal tendencies are relevant to this meta anyways because like I said a few paragraphs ago: The whole firefam has them! )
Also, for the first time ever: here is a picture I took while watching the show because what are these two extras doing? Why are they touching like that? Who are they and will we see them again? Does my brain get easily distracted by completely unrelated things?
Tumblr media
Anyways, the way Buck answers Sam „She’s down there waiting for you.“ when he asks for Abby and his „Good to meet you Sam.“ really brings home how none of his behaviour was about Abby and all about Buck being Buck. (And now I am angry at him again, urgh, THE NERVE! Selfless fucking himbo!)
I really liked that Sam knew who Buck was and that they got to have this little interaction where he probably reevaluated the whole night because that boy just risked his life for him, the guy marrying his ex-girlfriend, and has spent the whole night being so very nice to him and talking to him. Not gonna lie, Buck is a good guy through and through and Sam probably feels like shit now.
Also Eddie coming to stand in front of Buck - I know some people think it was out of protectiveness, which got me thinking:
Tbh at first I was convinced it was a camera angle thing? Because if Eddie stood behind Buck we wouldn’t really see him. Then I thought, so why choose this angle to film it? Obviously the set had to be built a certain way so was there no other way to do it? Also why was it even important, that we saw Eddie arrive like that, couldn’t they have just changed the angle after Abby was gone to get Eddie in the frame? Why was it important that we knew that Eddie was there and 1) was putting himself physically between Abby and Buck meaning 2) that when Abby leaves with her single father, Buck is left with his single father? Why does an episode that is supposed to give Buck closure focus so much on the reactions of his non romantic partner?
(Because tbh, even if they needed to find ways to use Ryan Guzman in this Episode without adding too many scenes, they could have done it with less focus on Abby. I say this as a Buddie shipper who does recognise how important the connection Buck and Eddie have as friends is: storyline wise Bobby would have made more sense in most of these scenes and Eddie could have been used in a different way.)
I’ll leave this scene with the very nice visual of Buck running back to the traincrash and Eddie following him. These two. Like magnets.
And a quick topic change, because I do wanna talk about Michael and Doctor Hale as well in this meta, one because I found them very cute and two because I’ve now talked to a few people about Ana and Eddie and while we by now know she will probably be in Season 4, I feel like we need to compare Michael and Doctor Hale vs Eddie and Ana. Because there is such a difference in the way these love interests where introduced.
Now, of course we need to realise that Eddie and Michael are fairly different characters and Michael has way less relationship related baggage than Eddie has which is why he goes after what he wants way faster (also, carpe diem, he just found out he won’t die). Also of course, there is no moral component to address in Michael dating some doctor vs. Eddie dating his son’s teacher, but still:
Michael and Dr. Hale had one scene together and it wasn’t even overly flirty and yet, we knew where it was heading, we felt the chemistry and everyone ended the episode saying: I ship it, more of that - which they did give us, just *one* episode later. They had some awkward moments, yet the show never left a single doubt in your mind where this is heading.
Now look at Eddie and Ana:
Sidenote: I do wanna say be kind to the character and no hate, especially not to the actress! Yes, she needs to be flashed out more; no, what we saw so far does not make me ship them; no, I do not mind if they dated a little.
First of all we learned more about Doctor Hale in the two short scenes than we did about Ana in four scenes. That seems deliberate.
Second, while we do realise Eddie thinks Ana is attractive from the get go she repeatedly shuts him down by pointedly saying „Mr. Diaz“.
Third, every scene between them - and I mean every single scene - is connected to Buck in some way:
In „Fools“ we cut from Buck saying he likes being single to Eddie doing parent-teacher conference and yes, meeting some other teachers first but also Ana, showing us that while Buck is fine with being single - Eddie might not be. Also, Carla’s „blue eyes“ line which is a little clown-y, so take it with a grain of salt that it could connect us to Buck
Then of course her next scene is Eddie getting in her face about Christopher being hurt. Later in the episode we see Buck reference this on a call, meaning either Carla or Eddie told Buck about it (I am leaning a little toward Carla making fun of Eddie in front of Buck and Eddie then having to come clean about all of it, because I cannot wrap my head about the idea of Eddie telling Buck about having a crush, I’m sorry.)
Her next scene is Eddie coming to apologise to her and she gives her speech about limitations - which we can of course connect to Buck and Eddie talking about Christopher and his limitations before that and then afterwards going skateboarding with them. (It does feel a little deliberate.)
And then of course we have „Eddie Begins“ and you guys, they could have very very easily have either Carla or Buck make a joke about Mrs. Flores and Eddie’s crush in the firehouse scene, but they didn’t! And then we do get to see her at the end where she has one whole line and Eddie barely looks at her and you know what happens? They have a child ask the same question Buck asked at the beginning, making us think of Buck. Like, it would have been enough to establish Eddie doesn’t feel like a hero if the question was asked only once - twice in the span of 45 minutes constitutes a callback, meaning we are supposed to think of the other scene and that means thinking about the other person that asked, which was Buck
And yes, once Season 4 premieres and we get Eddie and Ana in this epic romance because Tim Minear wants to be the next Rick Berman, I will go back to this meta and beat my own ass. Or something.
(Listen, her returning in Season 4 does not mean endgame or the end of Buddie, it just means Eddie might get a love interest. Tbh I actually think it could get us closer to Buddie and you know what, I’m just gonna link all my Ana Flores posts here here and here now so you can read all the other stuff I, alongside some other people, said on this topic, if you’re interested because none of this has a point right now.)
Now, let’s get into the meat of things and talk about *that* scene:
Was it a good apology? No.
Did Buck deserve better? Fuck yes.
Did he get closure? Yes.
Is the way that scene was done actually perfect? I mean, ya’ll, yes? A little?
Listen, this scene was always about closure and that’s what Buck got here and that’s what Buck needed.
Buck, who in Season 1 had described Abby as the perfect woman, needed it to go down like this so he could realise she wasn’t and he could finally let her go. And that’s what it was about!
Obviously looking at Abby’s character this episode does not make her look good, like not at all and I’d be very surprised if we ever saw her again. But looking at it from Buck’s point of view it was exactly what he needed. (Not what he deserved, but yeah, if this show was about what Buck deserved it would be a whole lot different and Buddie would be canon by now.)
One thing I really loved about the scene was the way it was filmed, with LA in front of us, Abby and Buck with their backs to the camera and us only ever seeing them in profile, because it was a  private moment and this sort of made you feel like you were intruding. Like you were listening in on a conversation and I liked that a lot.
Also I think her speech about losing herself through helping people is very interesting because it contrasts her to Buck. Buck found himself in helping others and lost himself when he was no longer allowed to do that and I think that is what she means when she says she would have lost herself with him again. Because Buck is selfless and he is so selfless he inspires others to be the same, except Abby isn’t but being with Buck she would need to be and that is a problem.
Look, if you’ve followed this blog at all or maybe just read part one of the meta you have probably guessed by now that I don’t like Abby. I found her character boring. I thought she overstepped all the time. I got so mad at her for the way she treated Buck in Season 1!
Because in 1.06 she *actually* complains about him being too thoughtful and scared of messing up while calling him a *toy boy*. The truth is, after 1.05 and their first meeting, Abby no longer takes him seriously. She hardly ever takes his feelings into consideration. The relationship, from Valentines Day onward becomes all about what she wants and what she needs and our Buck is the selfless idiot who gives her his all.
I mean, she never even talked to Buck about wanting to leave, just presented him with her decision and then lived her life and never thought about him again.
And like, I think she is wrong if she thinks she’d have lost herself with him again, because Buck was what showed her that she lost herself in the first place. He helped her on the path of self-aquaintance (I guess? I’m lacking the word here), but she is right if she means the relationship wouldn’t have worked.
Because one of them would have lost themselves, though I do think it would have been Buck and not Abby. After all, Buck was the one who gave everything up from the get go and yes, Abby helped trigger him finding himself alongside Bobby and the job and she did help him stay on that path in the beginning - but in the end it was never about her at all. It was about him and him alone and the amazing person he had always been.
And I think that is what Buck realises in the scene. Despite Abby ghosting him, he still looked at her through rose coloured glasses and with fondness, but here, he realises, oh, Abby isn’t perfect. Abby isn’t like the woman I made her out to be. Abby never really cared about me. And as much as that probably hurt, this is what Buck needed to let go of her!
He needed to see that Abby wasn’t the perfect woman so he could let her go - and find himself the perfect person, someone who reciprocates and doesn’t just take. (Am I crying?)
(And look, I am not saying he already found someone like that, someone who proved in this episode how much they care about Buck and his feelings and making sure he comes home every night to his family - I’m saying he found someone who is working on being that person!)
Let’s talk about Eddie and Abby for a second, again, okay?
(Bro, how did I just get to that topic? So random! *laughs in Buddie*)
When I watched the episode my second time to take notes, I wrote one that said ‚Abby and Eddie parallels / lawsuit‘ - and I gotta be honest I barely remember what I meant. But I did still produce some thoughts (just not sure if that was where I was going with the note, so if anyone has some other ideas, please share):
You know how Abby talks about losing herself when she is with Buck? Well, I know someone who lost themselves just this season because he wasn’t with Buck! (Jup, we’re back with the lawsuit, ya’ll really thought I wouldn’t bring this up? You guys! More than 20000 words and you still don’t know me!)
It’s a very nice parallel to have Abby talking about losing herself with Buck when we saw Eddie losing himself without Buck. Because while I think Eddie himself is a selfless person just like Buck, similar to how Buck needed Abby in Season 1 as a catalyst of change so to speak, Buck was the catalyst of change for Eddie.
I talked a lot in the other parts about Eddie having problems with voicing his needs and feelings - and now please once again look at his relationship with Buck. Because here he has been doing this, not from the get go of course, Eddie didn’t take one look at Buck and his whole life was turned upside down (that was Buck looking at Eddie), but I think Buck steamrolling through Eddie’s life helped Eddie find himself. Buck, from the get go, is a calm centre for Eddie, an anchor, even after he reconnects with Shannon. Buck is who he turns to in a crisis, who he trusts with his son, with having his back.
And I think in both cases - Abby and Buck as well as Eddie and Buck - the relationship is brought to the next level through Buck’s selflessness and willingness to help. But while Abby just takes it and doesn’t really see it as the gift it is and never fully lets Buck in, Eddie does the opposite. Eddie, whether knowing or unknowing, makes himself exactly what Buck needs: someone who puts trust in him, who treats him like an equal, who opens his home and his family to him. And he also tries (and this is a big thing considering who we’re talking about right now) to be there for Buck, to be his anchor just like Buck is his - which obviously works with mixed results, because one person, no matter how hard they try can never fix the problems of someone else alone. Believe me. I’ve tried.
And wow, did that get deep and fast! Damn ya’ll and I haven’t had a drop of alcohol in like 5 days. This show really gives me all the feels!
Now, to keep me and maybe ya’ll from crying I’m gonna change the subject and talk about something else, also known as the rest of the episode:
To go back to the start of the episode, Buddie really had some extreme couple / family vibes going on, especially with Christopher in the mix. It’s telling that they included a scene of Buck and Christopher specifically and it was to remind us once again that these two have a strong bond.
I won’t go all: Buddie confirmed, this is were we are heading, ya’ll! Because as you must have realised by now I am fairly cautious when it comes to this and am always fighting to keep my own clownery at bay, but I do have to say so far nothing in this show and Season 3B specifically has read as a red flag for me, disapproving the possibility or making me feel queerbaited. Now, maybe I am just very off in my intuition and they will change gear in Season 4, but well, right now I have some hope!
I also loved the scene of Christopher going to camp and the card which reminded me of 3.01 and also, Eddie looks so good here! And he came so far, letting his son go to camp and all!
Of course I would have loved to see Buck there as well, but one, that would have been a Buddie confirmed and we’re not quite there yet and I’m glad cause right now they aren’t fully ready (in show terms, fanfiction is something different), and two this proves what I said about Buck and Christopher being connected and him having parental / fatherly feelings toward the boy but like, not being his actual father yet! Buck loves Chris and Chris loves Buck and obviously he is part of the Diaz family - but he also isn’t.
(Also: I went to something like camp when I was 11 and you think both my parents brought me? Nah, son, they didn’t. My dad brought me while my mom made breakfast.)
Now, some sidenotes to round it all off:
Karen is a gift and I really hope we see more of her because omg, I wanna be her friend, I wanna be her wife, I wanna learn about life from her! She is awesome and I will never fully forgive Hen for cheating on her, like girly, Eva isn’t even close to Karen on any level?
And speaking of Hen, I love the subplot of Chim coming to terms with her potentially leaving and deciding to help her because he was who she really needed on her side - not anyone else. I’d write a meta on their relationship but tbh it’s so consistent and unproblematic, I really don’t know what to write except: goals about 10000 times. Which isn’t that different to me finding new ways to write THE CONNECTION, if we’re being honest but oh well! Now it’s too late to stop that!
I loved Athena getting spooked by Bobby showing up behind her when she was getting a drink - talk about this show finally addressing the trauma these characters go through! And it only took, oh well, about 35 episodes. Let’s hope that is the energy they bring into Season 4.
Now the apology scene with Bobby, I do hate how Buck is once again the one apologising and especially since it’s with Bobby but I do think it was a nice scene and a great callback to 3.01. Also this episode showed a lot of growth in Bobby and Buck’s relationship. Because after 3a was all about Bobby projecting onto Buck and making decisions for him based on what he thought was the right thing, this episode not only had Buck standing up to Bobby in a healthy and adult way (no lawsuit this time!) but also Bobby giving in and letting Buck make the decision even if he disagreed. That is some motherforking growth right here and Babe, I hope you are not to disappointed with me, but if they keep Bobby like this I might actually begin to see his appeal to people (still need him to suffer the consequences of his actions, though).
But to end on a great note:
Buck is doing okay and - most importantly - MADNEY BABY!!! You guys, we knew it was coming from the promos and all but I cried! I cried so hard! I am so happy for them! These two soft characters and their amazing, open, caring, trusting, adult relationship deserves all the luck in their fictional universe!
Whew, you guys! We’ve done it! And it’s longer than Season 2 (I’m sorry, are ya’ll surprised? This episode was a lot!)
I feel like I should write some form of conclusion to this whole meta and yet my words elude me. Here are the few I have for you though:
This meta began with the idea that neither Buck nor Eddie really knew how to be emotionally intimate with a person and instead used sex as a substitute. This is no longer true for either character.
Buck has learned through his relationship with Abby, that he can be both physically and emotionally intimate with a person and he has proven how this is still true in his reaction to Taylor and his relationship with Ali, what little we saw of it. Furthermore Season 3B specifically showed that Buck, while still afraid to open up to people, is trying. I do think Season 4 is heading toward some kind of romance for him and while I am praying to several deities I do not believe in and the universe itself that it is Eddie, I am not sure. I hope so. But never the less, my shipping aside, Buck has grown tremendously in the course of 3 Seasons and I am so impressed both with his character and the way the show has so realistically done it. I love him. Even more than Buddie I hope we get to see him truly happy in Season 4, happy and settled and learning what life actually holds for him because that kid could rule the world if he wanted to.
Now, Eddie: It’s funny, when I began this meta I felt more connected to Buck, I didn’t really see myself in Eddie, I barely had a grasp on his character at times. Now? Now he is my favourite, I love his greyness, his goodness despite his faults, the way he always struggles with himself to do better, to be better because it doesn’t come naturally to him, because it has been taught to him to do the opposite. And that is so impressive. I love the growth we saw in him, the evolution, the fight to be a better man than his own role-models and I love especially how all of this was motivated by and for his son. He truly loves him more than life itself and I am so impressed with 911 subverting something that feels like a very female storyline by giving it to a man.
But of course Eddie isn’t done yet and Eddie still struggles with intimacy and opening up but he is getting there. Through Frank and Buck and for Christopher he is fighting and he is getting there and I love that for him and about him! He deserves to be happy in Season 4 just like Buck, but mostly he deserves to be at peace with himself!
And I already talked at length about Ana and their potential and linked what I thought didn’t fit in here, so I will not bore you by repeating myself and just say: wait. Wait and see. Maybe the show will surprise us. Maybe it won’t. Maybe corona will kill us all before we have a chance to see Season 4. Maybe we are in the Matrix and the blue pill is a metaphor for being trans. Life is strange!
Also on a more personal note I wanna say thank you to everyone who has read and liked and reblogged and commented. I love all of you. Your support and trust in what I am saying has meant a lot and will mean just as much in the future and I do hope I get to do this again in like a year once they return!
(Also, not to sound needy but another reminder to please reblog and comment? Because I *am* actually writing this because I really wanna talk about the show and my feelings and your thoughts and you know, that can only happen if ya’ll do some reblogging)
(Or come to my ask if you are more comfortable being even more anonymous, I don’t judge - I NEVER ask question any other way!)
In diesem Sinne: hamma wieder was gelernt, recht herzlichen Dank für Ihre Aufmerksamkeit und auf Wiedersehen!

Prince Feathersword
In the discord Cef sent some song that reminded me of Captain Feathersword, which led to me to sending THIS clip from the old Wiggles days to remind everyone of his existence lol. Then my brain ran with the idea and this became a thing lol.
(also yes there’s a sequel in the works and coming at you soon lol)
Fandom: Sanders Sides
Ship(s): Logince; Platonic LAMP
Characters (lee/ler): Ler!Roman, Lee!Patton, Lee!Virgil, Lee!Logan
Word Count: 3873 words
Summary: Roman’s been on a bit of a nostalgia binge, recently, and couldn’t help but remember a special sword a certain tickly pirate had...
[ao3 link]
---------------------------------
While it was definitely far more common for Patton to be overtaken by nostalgia, Roman was not immune to its appeal. Perhaps it was because he’d spent too much time in Patton’s room, or perhaps it was just because something he saw or heard triggered the thought.
Whatever the reason, Roman found himself unashamedly on a Wiggles binge.
Sure, it may have been for preschoolers, but fun characters and catchy songs had no age range! He would twirl around the house, singing “Fruit Salad” or “Hot Potato” or “Head, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes,” much to the annoyance (at least, for the two left-brained Sides) and the joy (of a certain right-brained Side) of his friends.
But then he came across a certain song that just wouldn’t leave him alone.
“Ooh, It’s Captain Feathersword.” The words of the song made Roman giggle and blush and squirm, but at the same time, he wanted more than anything to have such a wonderful tool himself.
“He tickles you! He tickles me!” Roman sang along, grinning at Captain Feathersword wiggling his sword ever so teasingly.
And then he realized: Roman could have such a wonderful tool for himself. And he was going to.
It didn’t take him long to visualize it. He kept the main, largest feather red, just like Captain Feathersword’s, but he made the medium plumes a deep burgundy, and the smallest feathers jutting just barely out front the hilt a beautiful golden yellow. A sword fit for a prince!
Now to put it to use.
Patton was clearly the best choice for his first victim. After all, not only did he love a good laugh, but he’d join in on Roman’s nostalgia binge ten-fold! So Roman burst dramatically into Patton’s room, feather sword held high in the air, taking a dramatic pose.
“Who’s the Prince with a feather for a sword?” He sang.
Patton squinted at him in confusion for a moment before the memories hit, his smile going wide as he giggled out the next line, following Roman’s lead with the changed lyrics, “Ooh, it’s Prince Feathersword!!”
Roman waved his hand so his crown appeared on his head, colorful, fluffy little down feathers replacing the jewels. “Who’s the Prince with feathers in his crown?”
Patton clapped his hands and giggled again. “Ooh, it’s Prince Feathersword!!”
With a flourish, Roman made his way over to Patton, spinning into a sitting position next to Patton’s bare feet with a grin.
Patton, thinking their little sing-along was over with just the first verse, turned his happy little claps into an applause and leaned in to get a better look at Roman’s new “weapon.”
“Roman, that’s so fun! It looks almost just like his!” Patton laughed a little. “Just with a little extra ‘Roman’ flare.”
Roman sent him a wink and wiggled his feather sword threateningly. “He tickles you!”
Patton gasped and leaned back, but didn’t move his feet out of range. He grabbed the nearest pillow to clutch to his chest and already started giggling. Roman wiggled the feather sword against Patton’s feet, making him squeal and the giggles speed up and raise in volume. He continued for another moment or two, before putting on an overly-exaggerated pout.
“Oh dear, my darling Pat, I seem to have forgotten the next line! You wouldn’t happen to remember it would you? Could you sing it for me?”
Patton squealed again and covered his face at Roman’s words. Roman felt an evil grin take over his face, already loving his new toy.
“Hehehehe—He tihihickles—Ah, Rohohoho! Nohohot there!!” Patton shrieked as a few of the fronds from the feathers made their way between his toes of their own volition.
“Sorry, Padre! I can’t stop until we finish the chorus!” Roman chuckled under his breath as Patton flushed deeper, the pink on his cheeks no longer just from the exertion of laughing.
“Hehehehehe tihihihickles mehehehe!!” Patton finally managed to shriek out.
Roman decided to give Patton a break and finish the rest of the song. “He tickles everything that moves and everything he sees!”
For the grand finale, Roman shoved the feather up one of Patton’s pant legs, doing his best to push it as deep as possible. Based on the shrieking and thrashing and cackling, he wasn’t just getting Patton’s wonderfully sensitive calves, he’d also managed to reach the torturous spot that was the back of Patton’s knee.
“You know he is the Prince of the mindscape, see?”
Roman slowly dragged the feather from Patton’s pant leg, making it as torturous as possible. Patton started snorting through his frantic giggles, shaking with the effort to not kick out his leg in defense and shove the feather sword in deeper again.
“Ooh, ihihihit—it’s Prince Featherswohohord,” Patton giggled out without prompting, finishing the chorus. His chest heaved for breath and he had the widest smile on his face Roman had seen in days,
Roman grinned down at Patton. “Guess ‘Prince’ doesn’t entirely fit where ‘Captain’ does because of the difference in syllables, and I was totally winging that parody, but I’d say it went pretty well, eh, Padre?”
Patton nodded, still letting out residual giggles. “Guess it was a real mast from the past!” He burst into laughter again. “Get it? Cuz he’s a pirate and it sounds like ‘blast?’”
Roman chuckled as well, ruffling Patton’s hair. “Not your best work, Puffball. I think all the tickling short-circuited your brain.”
“Maybe. Hey! You should go show Logan and Virgil! I’m sure they’d love to remember the good old days with us.”
Patton phrased it innocently, but Roman knew what he meant. Go wreck our Serious Sally’s for me, would you?
Well, Roman would be happy to.
Virgil was next simply because he was closest. He sat in the common room, scrolling through his phone while John Mulaney ran on the TV for background noise (he claimed that the filler noise helped soothe his anxiety, “a quiet common space is a creepy common space,” or whatever).
“Oh, Virgil!” Roman sang teasingly.
Virgil looked up from his phone with a glare, the angry look faltering a little when he saw the giant feather in Roman’s hand. Roman watched him try to force him glare back into place.
“What do you want, Roman?” Virgil asked nervously, still eyeing the sword in Roman’s hand.
“That’s Prince Feathersword to you,” Roman said, relishing in the barely-there blush that spread across Virgil’s face as he drew closer, “and I’m here to conquer that foul mood of yours!”
Virgil’s scowl deepened and he backed into the corner of the couch, watching Roman’s approach warily. Roman approaches slowly so that he could search Virgil’s face and body language for signs that he really, truly didn’t want this.
His feet were bare, so Roman could see his toes curling and uncurling. He was curling in on himself, drawing his knees up, probably to protect the insane weak spot that was his stomach. His shoulders were drawn up, probably in preemptive defense of his neck. But there was a smile fighting at the corners of his frown. His eyebrows were far too exaggerated in their scowl for Virgil not to be acting. He was watching Roman’s feather sword with an almost excited anticipation gleaming in his eyes.
Well, who was Roman to deny his poor friend what he so truly desired?
Roman lunged, aiming for ears and what was left uncovered of Virgil’s neck first. Virgil squealed, his hands going up to bat fruitlessly at the sword, dimples popping up as deep as they would go as Virgil continued to try and resist his smile.
When Virgil instinctively leaned his upper body back to try and escape the tickling, Roman darted the sword down to flutter over the tops of Virgil’s feet. Virgil yelped and his legs stretched out to get out of the way of the feather.
Roman grinned at the spot that was now exposed. Quickly, before Virgil could try and curl up again, he shoved his feather sword up Virgil’s shirt and wiggled it against his sensitive stomach.
Virgil burst into cackling, trying to curl up but only succeeding in trapping the feathers in his shirt. “ROHOHOHO!” He cried out, thrashing around on the couch, “PLEHEHEHEHEASE!!”
Roman chuckled, trying to draw the feather out of Virgil’s shirt. “Alright, alright, calm down Tickle-Me-Emo.”
Virgil shrieked and wailed with laughter as Roman slowly drew the feather sword out, going limp on the couch once it was no longer on his skin. He panted heavily for breath, but the smile never left his face.
Roman gave one last teasing wiggle of the sword against Virgil’s ear to make him squeal and his giggles start up again before he backed off.
“Looks like I vanquished the evil in the room.”
Virgil snorted, running away the phantom tickles on his ear. “You sure did, Princey.”
There was a scoff from the kitchen doorway and the two of them looked up to see Logan standing there, scowling, a mug of coffee in his hands.
Roman frowned. “Come on Logan, do you need a cheer-up visit from Prince Feathersword, too?”
Logan’s eyes darted toward the feather sword and his scowl deepened as he quickly looked away again. “No,” he said firmly. “Thank you, but I feel no need to participate in such childish games.”
Even Virgil frowned at that. “Come on, Logan, it’s not that bad. It’s even a little nostalgic.”
“I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but nostalgia is not my area. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have work to do.”
Roman scoffed as Logan walked up the stairs, sipping at his mug. “What’s his deal,” he mumbled. He briefly debated going after Logan anyway, but decided he didn’t want to risk his wrath.
Over the next couple weeks, the feather sword became quite the hit.
Sometimes, Patton would enter whatever room Roman was in and start making monster or dragon noises. Roman, of course, knew he couldn’t leave such a beast unslain, and would summon his “weapon” to defeat the monster. He would tickle Patton senseless until he cried out for mercy.
Virgil had his own way of asking, too. He would make himself look extra grumpy, though not the usual extra grumpy that said “mess with me you’ll regret it.” Virgil’s fake-extra-grumpiness was easy to spot, it was far too exaggerated. He would tackle Virgil and tickle him until he had “vanquished his bad mood.” Virgil always seemed much happier afterwards.
And sometimes, Roman was just in an extra-strong ler mood and would enter whatever room one of them was in with a flourish of his new sword and start singing “Ooh, it’s Prince Feathersword.” He would tickle his victim until he and his little lee could get through the entire song together, filled with lots of giggles and cackles and restarted lines. Based on the giddy looks either of them gave him when he entered the room like that, Roman would say they enjoyed that game just as much as he did.
But he still hadn’t gotten Logan.
Every time Logan would walk in on him getting one of the other sides, he would roll his eyes or scoff or make some other sign of annoyance or discontentment.
After two weeks, Roman had had enough of his grumpiness.
He had just stopped a quick little “fight” with Patton (he had been making dragon noises again, and who was Roman to say no? The kitchen may have been a bit messier than before, now, though) and was leaving the kitchen. Walking into the common room, he was met with a “tch” sound from Logan with a quick dart of the eyes to Roman’s sword before he stood from the couch and started making his way upstairs.
Roman locked eyes with Virgil for a brief moment, who had also been sitting on the couch in the common room. He just shrugged with wide eyes. Roman huffed and readied his sword.
“Alright,” he grumbled, making his way towards the stairs, “that’s it.”
“Go easy on him, Ro,” Virgil called gently behind him. “He may not like it like we do.”
Roman waved his hand to show he understood, but continued his march up the stairs. He reached the top just as Logan was reaching his room, his door second from the end of the hall. Roman dashed down the hallway as quietly as he could and shoved the feather sword up the back of Logan’s shirt as he opened the door.
Logan outright squealed as the feather met his skin. Roman peeked over his shoulder to see his face scrunched up and his lips pressed tightly together. His legs were wobbling as he squirmed every which way, trying to get the feather out of his shirt. Roman laughed victoriously and started wiggling the sword along his back.
Logan’s knees gave out and Roman followed him down, trying to think of how to get him to finally break. Grinning, Roman gently pushed Logan over, maneuvering him so he landed on his back, and shifted the feather to tickle his sides and ribs under his shirt. Based on the way Logan was trying to clamp his arm down, the very tip must have been tickling away in his armpit.
And Logan finally broke, toppling into hysterical giggles. His face was flushed from trying to hold back and his body squirmed around frantically at the soft touch of the feathers. Roman’s brain short circuited for a moment as the musical giggles danced around in his brain.
Oh no, Roman thought. He’s cute.
With this new revelation, Roman almost forgot what he was doing. He stopped wiggling the feather for a moment in his shock, but it was alright, because Logan was squirming enough to tickle himself with it, making his giggles bounce in volume as he accidentally got it to move over more sensitive spots.
But Roman craved more of that laughter. He wiggled the feather up and down Logan’s side, moving in further up into his armpit to get real, loud laughter, and moving it back down to his sides and ribs to bring him back into that adorable tittering.
Logan himself was making annoyed grunts and trying to squirm away the whole time. He didn’t say anything (or, at least, not anything that Roman understood through his laughter), but he definitely didn’t seem pleased.
And Roman may suddenly be incredibly gay for Logan and his laugh, but that didn’t mean he wanted to torture the poor guy to hear it. And he definitely didn’t want to make Logan hate him anymore than he probably already did.
So Roman tried to slide out the sword in the least ticklish way possible (Logan still squealed and cackled) and gave Logan a guilty smile. “I’m sorry, Logan, I know you--”
Logan looked away to avoid eye contact and cleared his throat. “Not that I want you to keep t-ti-tickling me,” he grumbled, face flushing, “but you have to make the feelings even on both sides.” His eyes darted up to Roman’s face and then darted back down to the feather sword as he bit his lip. He looked away again, blushing even more.
Oh, Roman thought. He wants this. He’s wanted this the whole time, through all that grumpiness. How much of that was faked to get me to tickle him?
But Roman just gave a sly grin and wiggled the tip of the sword teasingly over the tip of Logan’s nose. “Oh do I, now?” He teased, and slid the sword up Logan’s shirt against his other side.
Logan squealed and cackled again as it went in, then fell into frantic giggling and squirming as the feathers tickled against his side and ribs. Logan’s hands flailed a little, almost smacking Roman in the face. Roman gathered his wrists in one hand and pinned them above his head, making Logan look up at him with wide eyes. Roman winked.
“Better watch where these are going, gigglemunch, now I have to hold them down!”
“Wahahahait!”
Roman wiggled the feather up into Logan’s armpit and he shrieked, falling into loud belly laughter.
“ROMAHAHAHAHAHAN!!”
“Ah ah ah, giggle bug! That’s Prince Feathersword you’re talking to.”
Logan was laughing too hard to respond, futility tugging at his trapped arms. He shook his head back and forth as the laughter poured from his mouth, squirming so much that Roman even stopped moving the feather to just let him tickle himself.
When Roman deemed both sides “even,” he didn’t stop. He simply moved the feathers to the center of Logan’s torso, wiggling it there to torment his stomach, keeping his arms pinned high above him. Logan sucked in a loud gasp before toppling into more laughter. He tugged at his arms again.
“Nohot fair! Nohohohot fahahahair!” Logan cried, squirming desperately.
“Aww, what’s not fair, my tickly angel?” Roman cooed, grinning as Logan’s face flushed further with all the teasy nicknames.
“Toohohohohoo bihihihihig!”
Roman did his best to decipher the words, needing to take a minute to figure out what Logan meant with his current limited communication ability. “Aww, the feather sword is too big? Does it get too many of your tickle spots at once? Isn’t it just awful how much that can tickle?”
Logan whined through his laughter, trying to hide his face in his bicep and mostly failing.
“Just tickle-tickle-tickling on all those cute little spots! I can reach wherever I need to make you go crazy. And I know the feathers’ soft touch drives you insane, you cute little giggle monster!”
“Stohohohop teheheheheasing!” Logan shrieked, bucking up his hips.
Roman laughed, moving the sword down to be horizontal, brushing it back and forth across Logan’s hips and pantline. Logan practically screamed, bucking his hips over and over and struggling fiercely as he cackled and wheezed and shouted wordlessly.
“You are far too feather-sensitive, my dear.”
“NOHOHOHOHO!! ROHOHOHO PLEHEHEHEHEAHAHAHAHA!!” Logan cried, tears welling up in his eyes.
Roman chuckled deep in his throat, giving Logan’s wrists a reassuring squeeze. “Okay, okay, no more worst spot~.”
Roman moved the feather sword back vertically and slid it back up Logan’s shirt, just holding it there, letting Logan’s own squirming keep him in giggles. Logan panted in between his giggles, squeezing his eyes shut.
“Ruhuhuthlehess,” Logan murmured breathlessly.
“Oh? You done, then?” Roman asked teasingly, but prepared to remove the feathers if he needed to.
Logan, chest still heaving, peeled one eye open to give Roman as annoyed of a look as he could with the mirth still dancing in his eyes. “What, that all you got?”
Roman leaned in until their noses were almost touching, tilting his head tightly to the side. “Playing tough guy, huh?”
Logan opened both eyes and stared Roman down. “Who’s playing?”
Roman pulled back some, releasing Logan’s arms. He smirked when brief disappointment flashed in his eyes, moving his free hand to help hold Logan’s hips down. He turned the feather so that the edges and fronds of the feathers rested against Logan’s torso as opposed to the flatter part (well, as close to a “flat” part as feathers that fluffy could get).
Logan gasped and clenched his now-free hands into fists, flinching and pressing his lips together, humming out his giggles as his body jerked around and tickled itself. He took a couple deep breaths through his nose.
“Maybe,” Roman said, starting to wiggle the feather sword slightly to get Logan giggling aloud again, “I should make you sing the song for me.”
“Nohohoho!” Logan squealed, grabbing onto Roman’s arms, gripping tightly but not pushing him away.
“Aww, come on, I’m sure you remember the words!”
Roman wiggled the feathers with more purpose, making Logan toss his head back in laughter. With a cheeky grin, his tongue sticking out through his teeth, Roman angled the feather sword so that some of the fronds of the feathers slipped into Logan’s belly button. Logan bucked up as he shrieked, then fell back to the ground cackling, thrashing violently.
And yet he never asked for it to stop.
But his laughter was getting breathier, growing more tired. Logan seemed hungry for tickles, but Roman knew it was time he started wrapping things up.
He abruptly pulled the sword out of Logan’s shirt, triggering more cackling and squealing, and quickly moved down to sit atop Logan’s lower legs.
He was already barefoot, Roman noticed with a smirk. How convenient.
Roman felt Logan sit up behind him, probably to try and peer over his shoulder, so he wiggles the feather teasingly in front of Logan’s feet. Logan gasped and curled his toes, falling back into giggles behind Roman.
“Oh, do you think this is gonna tickle, little gigglemunch?” Roman cooed.
“N-nohohoho,” Logan mumbled.
“Oh, no? But look! The sword is bigger than your foot! I can get all this ticklish skin all at once!”
Not giving him the time to respond, Roman touched down with his weapon. He attacked the right foot first, immobilizing it further by tightly gripping his ankle in his free hand. The feathers were so fluffy, he could practically bury Logan’s foot in them.
Logan let out a wordless cry before dissolving into frantic laughter, grasping the back of Roman’s shirt in tight fists. When the fronds of the feathers made their way between Logan’s toes, he flung himself backwards back onto the ground, shrieking and cackling in-between gasps for breath.
“AHAHAHAHAHA NAHAHA ROHOHOMAHAHAHA!!”
Roman barked out a short laugh, glancing back to look at Logan as he switched the feather to Logan’s other foot. “Don’t hurt yourself, Brainiac! Who would I tickle to death, then?”
“ROHOHO! EHEHENOUHOHOHOHAHAHA!!”
Roman thought that amalgamation of sounds sounded quite a bit like “enough,” so he immediately climbed off Logan and pulled the feather sword away. He moved up to sit near Logan’s head, admiring the rare sight of a blushy, giggly, happy Logan as he calmed down. It was the prettiest thing Roman had ever seen.
“Don’t be such a Grumpy Gus,” Roman teased, helping Logan sit up and wiping his face of tears of mirth. “Then maybe Prince Feathersword wouldn’t have to remind you to cheer up every once in a while.”
Logan’s blush, that had been dying down, flared up again. He muttered something amidst his giggles that Roman swore was, “I wouldn’t necessarily be opposed.”
Roman didn’t call him out, though. He just rubbed up and down Logan’s back soothingly as he finally came back into himself, calming down and regaining control of his lungs and face.
Then a shiver went down his spine as Logan shot him a devious look.
“Perhaps,” Logan purred (which was far too distracting of a sound and was not fair), “Prince Feathersword needs a little taste of his own medicine.”
Roman gasped. Before he could even process what was happening, Logan had the feather sword in his hand and had pinned Roman to the ground, straddling him. He kicked the door to his room shut with his foot, trapping Roman inside.
Logan wiggled the tip of the sword teasingly over the tip of Roman’s nose, much like how Roman had done to him earlier, and said, “Professor Feathersword thinks you need to learn some manners.”
Roman gulped. He was in for it now.
