#pickle pontificates#i need to find a nice chill blog to follow for a certain fandom because I've been braving the wild west of the tag for a few weeks#and I'm sick and tired of seeing weird braindead discourse that's just rehashing stuff from every fandom ever and refusing nuance#i hate shipping discourse. sick of it#liking a ship or hating a ship does NOT make you morally superior or inferior or say anything about your political opinions#(in and of itself anyway)#like. yeah i don't ''get'' a lot of ships and don't really love any for this particular thing#but like. people are going to ship. they're going to ship things that don't make sense to you.#they're going to ship ''the wrong couples'' and ''the wrong genders'' (???) and there's nothing you can do about that#it's fair to vent about ships you don't care for or understand and it's fair to enthuse about ships you love#what i don't get is discourse with ppl vaguing in main tags back and forth like there's a debate to be had#there's not. there is no debate to be had in matters of preference#if ppl were really debating what makes canonical sense then sure. you could debate that#but there are only like two or less implied canonical ships in this fandom and NO official ones#NOTHING makes canonical sense. SHIPPING IS PREFERENCE. shipping is almost always inherently nonsensical to varying extents#you're not going to change anyone's preferences or behavior by complaining about a widespread cross-fandom phenomenon that's now here#this is an adult/teen story with adult characters aimed at an adult demographic#be an adult and mind your own business instead of acting like it's a moral social justice crusade to engage in shipping discourse#mkay rant over#okay to respond/reply btw i just don't want this in tags

Denial
Pairing: Vinsmoke Sanji x [gender neutral] Reader Summary: Reader likes Sanji, but they're in denial. Tags: Bitter sweet / Sanji is very loving / Boyfriend material a/n: sloppy ass writing
MASTERLIST
Tumblr media
There was something about the waiter— Or better, cook. All the entertainment you had on the ship while you guys were about seven days away from another island—according to Nami—was watching Sanji cook. In the whole time you’d spent around, you’d never watched an actual cook doing their job, since it usually happened in the back of fancy restaurants, which you wouldn’t usually attend.
Sanji was skillful and did it so naturally that made you kind of mesmerized, clearing your mind as you sat at the dining table with an elbow over the surface and cheek against your palm.
You didn’t notice how lost you were until there was a loud slamming sound from outside. It was followed by giggles that sounded to be Luffy’s, and then Zoro’s complaining. Sanji was also startled, looking over his shoulder at the door’s direction, but then glanced back again.
“Oh, (y/n),” Sanji said with a hum as he continued doing whatever with that bowl hugged to his torso. “I didn’t notice you there, my bad. This is becoming a habit, hm? Would you like something?”
“Ah, no,” you mumbled and cleared your throat. The times you’d happened to talk to Sanji weren’t many, only occasional chats ever since you guys met at the Baratie, so you didn’t exactly know what to say. Most of the time, you were just watching Sanji interact with the others, sometimes even trying to flirt with Nami. The few times you were with him were for taste-testing or stealing bits of whatever he was preparing. He would complain before you two just settled for comfortable silence whenever you were around. “I just got nothing to do, and it’s too hot to sit outside on the deck. Am I bothering you, though? I can leave.”
Despite the fact he had his back to you, it was still possible to know Sanji was smiling. You followed him with your eyes, watching Sanji put the bowl on the table and take the cloth from over his shoulder to dry his hands. His sleeves were rolled up his forearms, and it was one of the few times you’d seen him without the blazer. It was fine, honestly. The fabric stretched over his wide shoulders, then tight around his upper arm, also stretched over his chest, and… Shit, he was looking at you now.
“It’s okay,” he said as he grabbed something from the far side of the table and a glass from the cabinet, falling silent for a couple of minutes. “I’m used to cooking in an agitated kitchen, so it can be lonely when it’s just me in here.”
Sanji eventually walked over to you and placed a glass in front of you; the drink had a bright color, a salt-coated rim with a slice of strawberry on it, and a clear red straw in it. The ice clinked against the glass until it settled down. How the hell did he do that so fast?
“To help cool down.” He winked before he walked back to his previous spot to carry on cooking.
Your breath caught in your throat as you looked down at the drink, furrowing your eyebrows. Why was Sanji so nice? What was up with him? You sighed as you took the glass and sipped on it, and fuck, it was so good. How could he actually be this good? Maybe you were the one used to a crappy outlaw life before actually joining a crew.
You quietly sipped on the drink, unable to even look Sanji’s way this time. The glass hit the surface of the table with a little more strength than needed once you finished the drink, catching Sanji’s attention.
“Did you like it?” He paused what he was doing to look at you. “I could prepare another…” The words just trailed off as he gave up on talking the moment he saw you stand up and walk out of the kitchen.
Despite knowing something was wrong, Sanji couldn’t do much more than watch everything happen. He could not define what was going on, but he surely missed the companion he had during cooking, even if you were just sitting there in silence for most of the time, sometimes napping over the table.
Sanji also sort of felt like he didn’t have a say in this either. If he decided to question you, and you hit him with a ‘you do not know me’, he wouldn’t have much to do other than agree and just go with it.
A sigh escaped his lips as he paused his cooking. He didn’t know why it bothered him so much, but it did. He looked at the ingredients displayed before him for a long moment to gather his thoughts and remember what he was supposed to do now.
“Sanji,” Luffy’s voice pulled him from his thoughts, making Sanji look up. “Got any snack? My stomach’s aching.” He twisted his mouth as he stepped closer, looking over Sanji’s shoulder to see what he was doing.
A small chuckle came from Sanji as he shook his head to himself and pointed off to a plate he’d left on the corner. “There are some sandwiches, if you’d like to take it to the others I’d be… Okay, never mind.” He just opted not to argue when he saw Luffy walk away—he’d bitten one of the sandwiches, widening his eyes and humming about how good it was before walking away with three or more of them in hand. “No, wait, Luffy!”
Luffy hummed, muffled by the food, as he stopped and looked at Sanji.
“Would you perhaps know what (y/n)’s favorite dish is?” Sanji raised an eyebrow.
Luffy furrowed his eyebrows and thought for a moment, shrugging a little before he took the sandwich out of his mouth. “I don’t know, but they mentioned they really liked what you prepared for dinner last Thursday.”
It took Sanji a moment to remember Thursday’s menu, and he nodded. “Thank you.”
Another sandwich was already in Luffy’s mouth as he hummed, giving Sanji a thumbs up before he left.
Okay, Sanji could try to do what he did best now. Once he finished making dinner, he would prepare the dish. He didn’t mind preparing a little extra food just for you if it meant having a chance of making amends, even if he didn’t know what was wrong, exactly. He wasn’t even sure why he was putting so much effort into it. Maybe it was just to make sure he was on good terms with everyone.
Sanji nodded to himself. “You got this,” he whispered, “for the crew.”
The idea had anxiety drumming under Sanji’s skin, constantly wondering what you would think of the dish and maybe make things better than they were before. He kept looking at the galley’s door while the crew walked in—or at least Nami and Zoro finally walked in because Luffy and Usopp had been at the table ever since the smell of dinner started filling the deck. Sanji’s breath hitched in his throat when he saw you walk in and take a seat. He quickly took the plate, and before you could start serving yourself, he slipped it in front of you.
You blinked a couple of times, observing the exact meal from a few days ago that you’d loved so much, and looked around to check if someone else had that meal. They didn’t. You looked up at Sanji, seeking an explanation, but all he did was flash you a smile before he moved on.
“Oh, why’s yours different?” Luffy gasped as he looked at your plate. “Let me—” He clicked his tongue and glared when Sanji swatted his hand away before it reached your plate.
Okay. Not bad. You quietly started eating, making a mental note of what was going on. None of the others commented on it, so you didn’t either, continuing to eat. The only open seat was by the other end of the table, making it easier since you didn’t have to face Sanji now. Would you be able to hold yourself back from snapping if he opened his mouth?
Something shifted in your chest at the thought of that meal. How did he know you liked it so much since you’d not told him a word about it? Only Luffy and Zoro were there with you when you had dinner out on the deck, and the probability the two dumbasses were even listening to anything you said was very low. Did Sanji want to talk with you after the meal? Just the thought of facing him again made your stomach churn, so you quickly finished eating and, as soon as Luffy caught everyone’s attention by trying to eat it all by himself again, you left the galley.
That kind of stuck in your mind for a while, unfortunately. You couldn’t even hold yourself back—you were looking over the window on the door to the galley, watching Sanji cook the next morning. He woke up so early in the morning to make sure he cooked the best meals for the crew. Everyone had bonded so quickly, and you all already felt so comfortable with each other. It made you think sometimes.
Part of you still wanted to walk in there and watch Sanji cook as you used to, but another part still cursed Sanji. Why was he trying so hard to make it up with you? As long as you and him fought and worked together as a crew, that’d be enough, right?
“Oi,” the sudden voice pulled you away from your thoughts, and you saw Zoro standing there. “What are you doing? Did the waiter burn the water?”
You raised an eyebrow. “What?”
“Can you help me with something?” Zoro said without much emotion, but that was to be expected. Formulating his thoughts wasn’t exactly his strong point. Maybe thinking itself wasn’t one of his strong points in general.
“Depends.”
“Look, I can’t find any weight in here, but I gotta train,” Zoro sighed, “would you sit on my back while I do push-ups?”
You thought for a moment, humming. “And the others?”
Zoro pressed his lips together and sighed. “Luffy and Usopp won’t sit quiet, and Nami doesn’t want to do it.”
With a sigh similar to his, you nodded. “Okay, fine.”
It was a little awkward at first, but you quickly got used to it, finding a point of balance on his back. He was quite more resistant than you’d judged at first. You observed the sea—the weather was quite pleasing in the morning like this, with the sun shining weakly over the sea and the main deck, making a nice contrast with the cold breeze. Watching the waves got you a little dizzy, hence you averted your eyes away and tried to think about something else.
“Y’know,” you mumbled, patting Zoro’s head a little. “What are you doing regarding your swords?” Sometimes, you’d think back to how easily Mihawk had reduced them to bits, and it made you want to do anything not to get in his way, at least not yet.
“Finding new ones once we reach an island,” Zoro said through the huffs.
You thought for a moment. “Buying it? You don’t seem like you’d use just any sword, and I don’t think we have money for something like the Ō Wazamono.” Was his hair naturally green like that? You had to lean forward and inspect his roots a little, running a hand through the strands.
Zoro didn’t answer for a while, only the sound of his heavy huffs coming from him for a few reps. “You think too much.”
“I’m afraid of you,” you mumbled and patted his head a little, but not lightly.
“Stop doing that!” He grumbled without stopping his push-ups. It made you laugh, so you did it again, resulting in more complaints and laughter.
Spending a while with Zoro had been good, honestly. Well, you didn’t know if he could say the same about it, but you’d enjoyed getting your mind off the Sanji matter, even if not for long. You’d not even noticed how deeply you’d been thinking about it until now. It was easier to think about Sanji, and the idea of going back to your routine of watching him cook was very tempting.
You headed over to the galley after Zoro said he didn’t need your help anymore, and Sanji was there when you walked in, cooking as usual. Ah, fuck, why did he have to look like that?
“San—” You’d barely said his name when he stepped out of the way. Okay. Maybe he was too busy to help you right now, so you just stepped ahead and grabbed a glass of water yourself. You were about to say something to Sanji when Zoro stepped into the doorway.
“(Y/n),” Zoro said, still a little out of breath, “need something again. Also, bring some water, please. Or sake, if you can.” And he was gone just as that. You huffed.
Helping Zoro had you busy with Zoro for a long while, so you were a bit late for lunch, even if you’d been dying to leave already.
“You two are getting stronger?” Luffy said with a grin, watching you and Zoro sit down, with wide eyes.
“Something like that,” Zoro muttered, so you said nothing as you started serving yourself.
Though you couldn’t place what, this feeling in the back of your mind alerted you something was missing. You kept eating your food, just listening to their conversation, still a little too tired to talk. When you reached for your glass, however, you noticed it was empty. Sanji hadn’t filled it as he usually did. He hadn’t greeted you, either. Okay.
Luffy was eyeing you weirdly during lunch, so it was no surprise that he pulled you with him to the deck the moment you were done eating.
“What’s going on?” Luffy raised an eyebrow. “I’m sensing some kind of tension. Is it the food? You’re always in a mood during the meals.”
It made you want to chuckle a little, honestly. “No. There’s nothing wrong.”
“I’m the captain,” Luffy said as he placed a hand on your shoulder. “You can trust me with anything.”
Such a captain, huh? Not like you could complain about it a lot.
“Yeah,” you sighed. “I’ll keep that in mind.”
The answer didn’t please Luffy completely, but his lips curled in a reassuring smile before he let go of your shoulder.
Right when you thought you could solve things, it seemed to get a little worse. You’d tried to step into the galley, but the same welcoming feeling it always had wasn’t there. Staring at Sanji’s back felt intimidating instead of pleasant, so found yourself leaving the galley without even actually doing anything. Your muscles would lock before you could even say anything, mind screaming at you. The light mood from the morning felt long gone now, like a dream in the back of your mind or something that’d happened days before. How was it eating you from the inside out?
That kept you up at night. You kept rolling on the bunk, sometimes sleeping for a few minutes before waking up again. That fucking sucked. The same subject came roaming over and over your mind, and you thought about how nice Sanji always was. What was that for? What did you ever do for him? Nothing. Okay, nothing… Maybe the problem was there. Your chest heaved a bit the more you thought about it.
Eventually, you felt your bladder complain, and the very faint sleepiness you felt just faded away completely when you were heading back to the quarters. A glass of water wouldn’t hurt, right?
A faint slice of light cut through the darkness, coming from the small and round window in the galley’s door. Was Sanji on the night watch for today? Since overthinking had fucked you up so many times, you decided to just go with it this time, trying to keep your mind clean as you walked into the galley.
A glass of wine rested on the table as Sanji sat on one of the stools, with a cigarette and a cookbook. Why did he have to look like that? Your breath stopped in your throat, but you moved before your muscles locked again.
Sanji did acknowledge your presence, of course, but why didn’t he say anything? He kept his eyes on the book, even when you stood in front of him for a couple of minutes.
“Sanji,” you whispered. Why did your voice sound so weak?
There was silence, but Sanji did react this time. He blinked before his eyes finally met yours. “Are you hungry? I can prepare you something in no time.” His lips stretched into a smile, a tired one.
“Can we talk?”
Sanji furrowed his eyebrows for a moment, looking away, before he looked at you again. “Sure,” he said, though it sounded like a question.
“No, like—” You clicked your tongue. It was so hard, for some reason. “Are you alright?”
His mouth opened and closed a couple of times, that air of confusion remaining on his face as he thought about what to say.
“Okay, let me say something else,” you mumbled. You couldn’t lose that spur of courage. “I love your cooking. That day when you made the meal that I love just for me… That was very nice of you. And you were always letting me try whatever you were cooking, making me some treats. Sorry, okay? I wasn’t very fair with you.”
Sanji’s expression softened as he observed you. He glanced at the book before he closed it and put the cigarette out against the table. He shook his head a little. “It’s okay. I know those aren’t always welcome, and all.”
“Well, I welcome it,” you whispered. “I just— I don’t know. I actually enjoyed all of those so much, I just—” It was hard to even organize your thoughts about it. Why were you so reluctant about accepting it when Sanji was nice? “I’m sorry, okay? I was an asshole, but I didn’t mean to.”
A sigh came from Sanji as he shook his head a little to get his bangs off his eyes before he stood up. “Okay, I accept your apology. However, I’m also sorry for being a little too pushy.”
“Don’t think about it like that,” you sighed. “It was all so nice, I just didn’t know how to appreciate it. I’m sorry, okay? I didn’t really think too much about it until today.” Exactly because he stopped doing it today, but you didn’t know how to address it directly.
Sanji hummed, tilting his head and running his tongue between his lips. “Ah, yes. I also meant to apologize for that. It’s not new that my relationship with mosshead isn’t the best, but I wouldn’t contribute to major conflicts within the crew.”
It made your mind shortcut for a second. “What?”
“I don’t want to get in the way of your relationship with him.”
Your relationship with Zoro? Maybe you were still too sleepy because it took you a while to understand it, looking blankly at Sanji until you breathed a chuckle, shaking your head. “Sanji, are you going crazy or something?”
Sanji furrowed his eyebrows lightly. He really didn’t know what to say. He just shook his head a little. “Um, just to make sure, we’re good for now, yeah? Will I still have the pleasure of your company while I cook again?” The way those words made your heart flutter was fucking shameful, even more with that smile of his.
“Yeah,” you finally mumbled with a nod. The tension that once clung to your muscles was now gone, thankfully, and the sleepiness that you longed for so much now clung heavily to your eyelids.
The bowl that Sanji handed you still had some cake filling in it, enough to fill a couple of spoonfuls if you were determined enough, and thankfully, you were. You licked the spoon before starting to scrape the bits off the bowl, humming at how good the flavor was. You’d really missed that.
“How’s that?” Sanji asked as he carefully set the second layer of cake over the carefully spread filling.
“Good,” you said while still eating. It was hard to criticize Sanji’s cooking, and you were not an expert in most of the dishes he prepared, so it was hard to even know what they were supposed to be like.
Sanji smiled and nodded, grabbing the icing this time. He was spreading it over the cake when you stood up and dipped your finger into the icing, taking a bit of it with a hum.
“This is good!”
After eyeing you for a solid minute, Sanji scoffed, shaking his head with that smile of his. “Of course it is. Now, don’t go around eating before I’m done, yeah? What are you doing if I end up needing more than expected?”
You raised an eyebrow, putting aside the bowl that once contained filling, now truly empty. “Well, then make more. That’s not stopping you. I know you’re a good cook. Like, the best I know.”
A chuckle came from him as he glanced at you. “How many cooks do you know?”
Your lips twisted a little. “Blow below the belt,” you mumbled while he chuckled more, making you smile lightly. Sighing, you observed him still decorating the cake, and it was hard not holding yourself back from trying to get some icing again, just that he caught your wrist before you could do anything. “Hey!”
“What did I tell you?” Sanji raised an eyebrow. He grabbed a little of the icing with his finger and wiped it on your nose before he let your hand go, his hip bumping against yours to push you away lightly.
“You’re no fun,” you mumbled while wiping the icing away with your finger and then licking it.
“Am I supposed to be fun?” He asked, and you seriously cogitated jumping on him; he sensed it, of course, chuckling. “I’ll stop bothering you. I just can’t help how adorable you look when frustrated.” Something played in his eyes as he looked at you, making you look away immediately. Ugh, he was so difficult. He chuckled again. “Come on, look at me, let me see your face.”
“No,” you groaned. “Just finish cooking, Sanji.”
Sanji hummed softly. He walked around you, and showed up by your other side, putting his face in front of yours. “I told you not to look away!” He placed a hand on the counter by your other side, hence you couldn’t walk away or anything, just trapped in there.
“I hate you!” You glared, but the way he didn’t even react just had you so angry. You turned around and groaned, holding onto his lapel to shake him a little, which did nothing but make Sanji chuckle more. “Why are you like this to me? All you do is mistreat me!” The little dramatic rant didn’t do a lot more than amuse Sanji, never wiping that grin away from his face.
“Oh, poor (y/n)! I’m so evil!” Sanji rolled his eyes as you stopped. “Maybe if you weren’t so annoying….” He kept that smug tone as he held your chin between his fingers, keeping your face towards him.
“What are you doing?” You clicked your tongue. “You’re the annoying one!”
“Stop moving!” Sanji glared without stopping smiling, and you felt his thumb wiping the corners of your lips. You raised an eyebrow before biting down on his thumb. “Ow!”
“That’s what you get!”
“That’s what I get?” He scoffed and chuckled. “Well, I’ll show you what you get!” His hand easily squeezed both of your cheeks together, ignoring the way you kept complaining as he leaned in and pressed his lips to yours. You couldn’t do a lot more than blush and fall silent, observing Sanji with your cheeks burning red. “Oh, so that managed to calm you down? Maybe you deserve a little more,” he chuckled.

So I saw some more fan art of something like this and people are still hating it, calling this person homophobic for erasing Vaggie's sexuality and shipping her with a boy version of Charlie. Alright look- I can understand why they wouldn't like it, there's nothing wrong with not liking it, but it's absolutely crazy to me when they call someone homophobic especially when they said they loved Chaggie despite their sexuality and gender. Like-- this is literally just a thought that they had and they wanted to draw it. That's all that is. They don't dislike Vaggie being a lesbian, they don't hate that she and Charlie are girls and together. This was just a "what-if" drawing. It doesn't hurt the canon whatsoever. Y'all are being overly dramatic about this honestly.
And it totally confuses me cuz . . . Y'all will ship a straight character with their same gender and NOBODY will bat an eye at that. Nobody will judge you for it. If anything, they'll agree. Like, say someone shipped Naruto and Sasuke (and a lot of people do) and drew romantic art of them. You don't see us going, "Umm Naruto and Sasuke are straight and they're boys. You can't draw them together. That's weird."
We definitely can't say things like that, cuz it'll come off as homophobic, wouldn't it?? Or if people draw something like this--
Tumblr media
Changing Naruto's gender and making fanart of him and Sasuke together. Making fanfictions of a girl Naruto and shipping him with Sasuke. They ship these two boys (who aren't even a couple) but would prefer if one of the genders were switched. Didn't nobody make a big deal over this (as far as I know anyway) no matter if they were a part of the lgbt community or not. Nobody cares if they're straight, what gender they are, or if they were a couple or not. All they know is that they like the thought of them being a couple.
So why is it when someone switches up a queer character's gender and sexuality to heterosexual, it's suddenly criminal???
Here's another example--
Tumblr media
(Sorry to whoever drew this. I don't mean to repost your art. I just found it off google.)
Angel Dust is gay and Vaggie is a lesbian; PEOPLE SHIP THEM!!! There are a lot of fans who draw these two together despite their sexuality. You don't see nobody going, "Uhh Angel Dust is gay. He can't like Vaggie and Vaggie can't like him."
So shipping a gay character with a lesbian character is fine and shipping straight characters with the same gender is okay. So why is it wrong for the op to make fanart of something like that??

Personally I find the chemistry between Luz and Hunter obvious and if the show was created even 5-10 years ago no one would have much of a problem with Hunter and Luz shippers. It would’ve been what everyone expected to be endgame. Sure, I love lumity, it’s a cute sapphic high school romance. But narratively, there’s a case to be made for lunter while lumity is more just to be cute. Plus Luz is bisexual so any argument about erasing her sexuality doesn’t make sense. Plus it’s not like fandom is on the same level as the actual tv show like if a group of people want to imagine Luz and Hunter dating that does absolutely nothing to take away from the canon sapphic romance! I don’t have anywhere I feel like I can express this without getting literalky DOGPILED by Twitter teenagers who think the end all be all of queer liberation is making cartoon teenagers kiss.
I somewhat heard that type of rant that I've been interested to discuss before.. But I think it's better if Hunter has been introduced first than Amity tho. To make Hunter as a Male Lead. Yet the romance plot of TOH didn't go on that route. Because (ugh, another straight couple in Disney)
Unfortunately, everything has been already set by arranging Willow and Hunter as a pair instead Hunter is compatible to be paired with Luz because, Luz is with Amity now and both had feelings for each other before Hunter came. So I can understand what they're trying to defend the sapphic canon ship because THEY NEED LGBTQA+ REP, so if there is a straight couple in their favorite cartoon/show, the fans will gone RIOT and they will forced to make the straight couple to stay friends or platonic then shove it to everyone's throats. But their annoyance of not wanting Luz (who is a CANON BI) had a chance to NON CANONICALLY be together with a GUY who has 10x potential chemistry than Lumity. (I also love Lumity too from enemies to friends to lovers). The thing is, Willow shows to become the heroine for Hunter yet still GoldenLuz/Lunter scenes has more sparks even tho they're jumping to make a side couple (Huntlow) alongside with Raine and Eda (Raeda).
And the biggest and shittiest agenda they've got in the TOH fandom is to make these two characters (Luz and Hunter) as sibling-coded into their dynamic which is a HEADCANON. But FOR THEM IT'S A FACT because of the quarrel, all that banter and starting to helping and protecting each other away from danger/harm. And yet they theorize that when we look at Lunter, it's like there are both young Philip and Caleb.
So the issue of Lunter is because the TOH fandom can easily took it down or banish the ideas and options about Luz and Hunter to become a non-canon ship especially boy x girl ships in general media where the main protagonist is a BISEXUAL/GAY/LESBIAN or part of the LGBT rep. Some of them are a bit oversensitive by the "non-canon" ships might be ruined their canon gay/sapphic ship. Like only you can ship this MC with their same gender and NOTHING ELSE. I tried to keep away from the shipping discourse because the majority wants Lunter to see as siblings, and then they will despise somebody in every fiber of their being who ships Luz and Hunter where they are both BI for each other. Like who are they to have a right to demand a person who just wanna ship without their validation? Toxic TOH fans ain't had a right to accuse somebody because they LIKE a ship that they DON'T like. Yet also the Lunter shippers didn't wish for Lunter to be canon as well. Because they can ship them without a problem canon or not-canon as long as they don't attack nor cause such any harm to others. Yet these antis has so many claims to prove that their ship Lunter is wrong and there's nothing to support of shipping them romantically. So they will non-stop accusing Lunter shippers based on their ship which i migt turned out to become 'problematic' by many.
Luz and her bisexuality is the purest rep where she likes and attracted to guys and girls. Yet when they keep telling to such people that it will erase her sapphic love between her and Amity if Luz is going to be with Hunter in the long run.. That doesn't mean Luz isn't Bisexual anymore. How can these people pushing the hatred towards Lunter where they haven't heard the word "multishipping?" So every shipper has options which good ships to be shipped with this character. They never acknowledged poly ships too so, it's too late to speak up to toxic anti Lunters out there. Stubborn as hell lol. As a Bisexual, people must understand that they cannot ruined their Bisexuality by liking or dating a guy!

Anyway so if you ship Dami/anya and are sensitive about it you might wanna skip this post.
Now I don't know who this will help, it will certainly help me, but it may, idk, speak to some people who share my opinion and are tired of all the constant shipping. Maybe it's only me. Idk. My blog my rules. Block me if you will and I don't mean that ironically.
So yeah look people will ship what they wanna ship and that's okay. I'm just saying that sometimes when you're an outsider (aka aroace who didn't ship her first ship until she was 21 years old) you can see... some patterns.
And shipping this ship screams of amatonormativity and compulsory heterosexuality to me. Like when some people see two toddlers, a boy and a girl, playing together and they immediately go like "aw they're boyfriend and girlfriend!" which like. 99,9% of those people have pure intentions and thoughts about it but still. The fact that you see two toddlers interact and your immediate thought is to connect their interactions to something sexually active adults do, just because said toddlers are of the opposite gender, is exactly what amatonormativity is about.
Amatonormativity is about how the only way for someone to prosper and be happy is with a romantic partner. Other relationships they may have don't matter, their personal success and growth don't matter; if they don't have a romantic partner then they're "sad" and "unfulfilled". And growing up with this makes us cling onto the tiniest possibility of where romantic relationships can happen, and yes, leads us to see two toddlers of opposite genders and say "They're a couple!" Yes it's a joke. Yes it has good intentions. But the toddlers themselves don't follow your rules. They have no concept of romance. They just see a human their age, who is as willing and energetic for play as they are, and they cling to them because they've found a person who "communicates" in the same way. Amatonormativity is when you take that, a connection between two people and, no matter the context, you interpret it as romantic (or potentially romantic). Because god forbid anyone is happy with only platonic partners, right.
Similarly with compulsory heterosexuality, where heterosexuality is considered the norm and natural instinct of humans. It leads us to prioritizing hetero romance above all else. It leads us to seeing two characters of the opposite gender and focus only on how a romantic relationship between them can work, and only that. Nothing else.
As I said, I'm aroace, and even though I didn't realize that until less than ten years ago, I was always confused, always, since my pre-teen years even, about why there was so much romance in media, and when I entered fandom spaces I was very overwhelmed with how much people did the shipping stuff. I still don't connect with it very much but at least now I'm used to it and expect it.
So yeah. I don't think there's anything creepy or wrong with shipping this ship. But the way so many people lean to doing that says something about how our society conditions us to only have one way of thinking, the "right" way of thinking.
But Nette!, I hear you say. What about shipping twiyor? Doesn't that fall under the same circumstances? They clearly establish their relationship as one without romantic interests involved, yet look at the swarms of people shipping them!
And to that I say yes, it does. Again, I'm aroace and didn't actually ship my first ship until I was 21. You have no idea how much obsession with romance I see around me and go like that vine of "Can I please get a waffle?"
But I am a blogger that focuses a lot on narrative, and I love understanding what the author wants to tell me. I like it so much that I'll consume a bigoted piece of media just to understand how the author's bigotry works. That's how much I like understanding Author's Intent and use of narrative.
I'm not saying what I do is right, or the "best" option. It's just how I work, and that this, along with being aroace, gives me a wholly different and "outsider" perspective.
And Twiyor growing romantic feelings for each other? It can provide something to the narrative. From the very beginning they were already in a phase of working together as platonic roommates, because of how kind Yor is and how adaptable Twilight is. They reached the "mutual respect" point almost immediately. But Yor is also socially inexperienced and Twilight is also emotionally constipated. Having them grow romantic feelings for each other can provide something on par with Spy x Family: humor! Because none of them know what it feels like to be in love, and those feelings can develop while they're under layers of denial, for different reasons for each character. With Yor feeling insecure and Twilight having zero self-consciousness, it can actually make for some humor where the audience will know and the characters will not. And that can be fun! And eventually, when they do recognize their feelings, it can be a step of them knowing themselves better. All that can add layers to the romance and not do it just for the sake of romance.
That is, they don't have to become a couple to make their characters complete by the end of the story. Though it would be interesting to see how they handle the identity reveals if they come after they've developed romantic feelings, how Yor will handle physical intimacy within a romantic setting, seeing how her instinctual move upon physical proximity is to beat the other person into another dimension, and how Twilight will handle a romantic relationship that he for the first time is emotionally invested in after having faked such relationships for his missions.
Now, for the other ship (that I don't mention by name simply because I don't want this post ending up in search results and their shippers being exposed to something they most likely won't like), they're both too young to even comprehend the concept of romance - Damian has a school crush. That's all. I had one too in his age. Didn't develop into anything deeper than wanting to spend more time with the classmate in question. It cannot develop into anything deeper because six-year-old brains are naturally incapable of that. Most of what creates romantic feelings are hormones, in other words, your hormones liking another person's hormones. And six-year-olds do not produce such hormones, nor have developed receptors to analyze such hormones around them, so romance is simply naturally impossible for them. Not even mentioning sexual activity here.
So we're not talking about actual romance here. We're just talking about a 6yo boy developing fond feelings for a fellow 6yo girl. Feelings which he fights because said girl defied him and he's not used to being defied. Neglected and ignored, yes, but not defied, especially from someone whom he considers less important than him.
And while that gives him character, he's still part of the narrative. And the narrative doesn't focus on him! He's just a recurring character. The narrative focuses on Anya, and by putting her against a character who is fighting his feelings for her and ends up bullying her harder for that is not for romance; it's to provide conflict.
Stories where the characters achieve their goals easily without any obstacles are not interesting. We want our characters to face difficulties because those can help the characters grow and develop, express their feelings, prove how resourceful and adaptable they are, etc etc. It's what the matter of conflict in stories is about. Damian liking Anya creates conflict for him, and him existing in the story as he does creates conflict for her. He's literally there to make Anya grow as a character, not as a source of support, but as a source of conflict.
Let me elaborate on that: Anya has to approach Damian for the sake of the mission. In multiple cases she's shown a refusal to do so because he's mean to her and she'd rather spend time with someone who treats her well, aka Becky. Ironically, Damian growing feelings for her makes it harder for her to approach him, because he's ashamed that he has a crush on a girl of a lower class, and even more so a girl who punched and defied him. And because of that, he ends up treating Anya worse than he would be if he didn't have a crush on her. If he didn't have those feelings he would just be a decorative brat that would either ignore Anya completely or consider her pathetic for how hard she would try to approach him. Not a very interesting plot line, nor an interesting character. The "romance" there is what makes Damian layered, more relevant and interesting for the story.
As for Anya, as I said, this "romance" gives her external conflict and nothing more. She doesn't like Damian and would rather not approach him, but feels she has to to complete her "mission". And as of where the anime stands, any of her attempts towards that have led to her being insulted by Damian but progressing the mission even slightly. Her punching Damian gave Twilight a conversation starter with Donovan, and her challenging Damian to go meet his father resulted in Twilight meeting with him as well. She just had to operate under difficult circumstances because of Damian's treatment of her, but it's that that makes for an interesting story.
And so it can be very telling when people ignore all that narrative importance and focus on "But romance tho!"
Not saying it's bad or wrong. Just influenced by amatonormativity, as I said above. No-one to blame in this but the patriarchy. In this blog we fight the patriarchy by not shipping a ship the author doesn't want us to ship. W for liberation.
Yeah jokes aside I do find it an interesting way fandom works. I mean it's still a result of a toxic and harmful mentality that conservatism and patriarchy inflict upon us, but it's telling how it can influence even the way we enjoy fictional stories and what we prioritize on them when doing so, often even ignoring what the author wants to tell us.

Things I notice Across Fandoms as someone who has been in it for Around 15 Years
There's always that one fic you can't help but reread all the time even if you left the fandom cause it's so good.
There's also that one fic everyone else loves and you hate
People who write swears like 'f**k' or the such tend to be younger then most and don't know that it cheapens their work to do this.
Fanon takes the reins in a lot of fandoms and you have to refamiliarize yourself with canon at least once in a while to make sure you don't fall down the hole.
Some people only watch the movie/anime and it shows.
Not everyone agrees on if a piece of fanon is good or not, and that's okay. You don't have to read or write it. But you don't get to come on fanfics and complain.
There's this sort of 'lull' from time to time where all the fandom newbies kinda realize they're being jackasses so they calm down and then things go great until the next batch comes in and starts acting like assholes.
People hate taking responsibility for their actions so if they complain about YOU letting them access things it means they're innocent lambs. Nothing pisses them off more then pointing out THEY chose to read/look at your stuff.
Every so often there's a character who everyone agrees on is a certain way but there are a couple of people who disagree. Arguments over this are never settled because they're to minor in canon.
Some interpretations of canon feel wrong, and guess what? That's okay.
Disliking characters is fine and so is writing posts about why you don't like them. Making posts complaining about specific people who do like them is not okay, so is sending death threats. General complaints is fine. Vice versa as well.
Comment etiquette goes through various waves as well similar to the above comment about fandom newbies.
People who admit to starting imaginary drama are trash and should not be followed. (A TikToker admitted to sending herself fake hate and then joked about how her followers were upset on her behalf. That's just gross)
Anyone who says they refuse to read anything not canon but read fanfic or write it are kind of dumb cause fanfic is NOT CANON and everything they write is fanon.
People who hate the main character tend to either be very young and trying to be edgy or are just... kinda weird in my opinion. Especially if it's all about how they're a wimp/weak and refuse to give them any of their good canon traits but praise the hell our of some other character for being better when they're either just more violent or cruel. Like dude.
That being said, I only think the above because for me the fics hating on the main character come this way. If you don't like the MC, I respect that I just wonder why you're watching/reading it.
Femininity is a concept that people struggle with and it leads to the influx of 'not like other girls' ocs/gender bends.
Speaking of gender bending: Let people live. It's not bad or weird to make an MC a girl or a boy. You having issue with them doing it to make a gay ship straight is valid but not all of them are like that. You're not cool for hating on it.
Some fandom jokes get stale. IE: Completely oblivous Todoroki Shouto.
A/B/O can be really good interpretations of canon and the trope, good stories discussing how culture and such changes with this dynamic, porn, or just a fun addition to canon. There is a lot of variation of it and if you like it who cares?
Religion is really fucking annoying in fanfics and we can TELL even if you try to write around it. If your character is religious fine, and if the canon character is fine, but dude stop writing atheist/non-Christian characters Christian or with those values. Especially if they're in a culture where the religion isn't prominent.

Clumsy and Grouchy for the ask meme! q(≧▽≦q)
Two cuties!
Clumsy:
Sexuality headcanon: Panromantic Demisexual
Gender headcanon: He's a dude but he's never heard of toxic masculinity. He'll respond to anything as long as he knows it's addressing him. He likes dresses and rocks, he's a man of many talents.
A ship I have with said character: HANDYYYYYYY. There's a lot of Smurfs (and some non smurfs!) that would be amazing with him. My OTP is Clumsy/Handy so that's my answer. And I still have a soft spot for Clumsystorm, but mostly via fanarts than their interaction in TLV now.
A brOTP I have with said character: Brainy! I guess that's obvious enough. I know Brumsy is p/ much the most popular ship in the fandom and I don't begrudge that, but it's getting brOTP from me.
A NOTP I have with said character: Clumsy has so much love to give, who could he possibly hate?? Hm, ok, Clumsy/Buddy. I don't think anyone ships that. If you do you're sick /lh
A random headcanon: His favourite animals are penguins! They're cute and fall down a lot, just like him!
General Opinion over said character: He's my darling, my baby, my ragtime boy. He can do nothing wrong ever and if he did it wasn't him. That being said I DO like him being mischievous from time to time, as a treat.
//
Grouchy:
Sexuality headcanon: Bi
Gender headcanon: He hates people asking him these questions
A ship I have with said character: Grouchy/Vanityy~ Smurfs 2 really pulled out the stops with this. Yeah ok it's the ass joke. I'm (partially) kidding, the whole movie set them up with a really interesting dynamic and I liked it a lot! But even the 80's cartoon had a couple moments that made me go !!
A brOTP I have with said character: Hm ... you know what? Grouchy & Gutsy. They seemed to be friends in the first LA movie, and Grouchy needs friends :)
A NOTP I have with said character: Grouchy/Vexy. I'm sorry. It could have been good. But it was the most forcefully shoehorned side-romance that I've ever seen. He has a moment of 'woa' when he sees her promptly followed by him telling Smurfette and Papa to let her DIE. And then after they're supposed to .. what? Be chill w/ that? Plus Smurfs 2 made it weird calling Hackus the other's brother when Vexy and him - oh look it was just done badly ok I'm sorry. It could have been good, I harbour no malice to those that do ship it but I just can't.
A random headcanon: He hates to admit it, but he really likes picking out flowers for Vanity's hat <3
General Opinion over said character: I love how such a one joke character is so well beloved and for good reason! The character development between him and the bzz fly and caring for Baby .. he's rly good.

Candle Cove Pride Headcannons!
Heyo, just realized pride month is ending soon and I've already posted shit for it so here's a bunch of head cannons!:
Jojo and Banana King? Those two are pirate married, all the way. Funky gay pirate grandpas! Jojo being the only actual chill one on board and BK being the most batshit obnoxious old dude? They were made for each other. Husbands if I've ever seen 'em (also I want less "these two boring skinny twinks have homoerotic tension," and more "these two unconventional and weird old men are an old married couple who are so in love it hurts."
*holding Poppy* BISEXUAL DAD! BISEXUAL DAD! BISEXUAL DAD! BISEXUAL DA-
Me @ Percy, Calvary, Thade, Heartfelt, Susan, and Janice: I'm bestowing upon you the greatest honor I can give. Being asexual (aro/ace in Heartfelt's case).
Lillian is trans, and Dr. Mort (who in my version is absolutely nothing like the one on the wiki because I hate wiki Mort with a passion) helped with her transition. She and Thade are a t4t couple.
I have absolutely no clue what's going on between Horace and Skin-taker but it is the fruitiest thing and for all intents and purposes I've decided to refer to them as "the terrible husbands."
Credit to @thedivisionbell1994 for this idea from a while back but Janice being trans? Janice coming to Candle Cove and since it's a world based on her inner self and imagination everyone just immediately used she/her and Janice to refer to her without her having said anything, and even when she didn't entirely know what being trans meant she thought "hey yeah that feels right!" and that was that? *Chefs kiss* baby girl!
Percy, Thade, and Lillian were in the most chaotic QPR polycule. They all got married one day cuz they were bored and for pirate tax benefits. Triple threat the lot of them.
Dr. Mort (who again is VERY different in my version) and Boar were also two gay pirate grandpas who were very married and very deeply in love. Mort would climb Boar like a cat. Dog and Cat couple if you will.
*points to the Rubber Fishes crew* FRUIT SALAD!!!!!!!!
Both Sunny and Bloody Kimothy use he/she pronouns.
I think this could be considered canon since on their wiki they're referred to with they/them and their gender is never confirmed, but Nicola is 100% a nonbinary icon and they and Henric are married for pirate tax benefits as well.
*points to Milo and Henric* FUCKING DIVORCED THE BOTH OF YOU!
Skin-taker and Sariah are undead wlw mlm solidarity. No I won't explain myself.
Milo isn't homophobic but he is obnoxious. He'll find a way to both make fun of you and support you at the same time, and his sexuality is whatever would be funny in the moment.
Sunny, Sariah, and Susan are in love and very happy. Scary pirate lady, pretty but bad ass princess, and siren capable of unspeakable crimes lesbian polycule I don't take criticism.
Janice came to Percy one day and went, "Hey Percy I don't think I like guys is that ok," and Percy went, "Yeah of course! I mean everyone on this ship is already queer so-"
Abyssians don't really think about gender the same way humans do so when Thade came to Candle Cove and learned what pronouns were he wanted all of them. Collects them like pokemon cards the lad.
Don't get me wrong, I'm 100% on the ftm Percy boat, but hear me out: genderfluid Percy.
Milo: Are ye wearing a dress??? Percy: Aye. Why? Jealous ye don't get one? Milo, 100% jealous: ....no-
Janice: Are you gay? The Earl: I'm homophobic! Poppy: He's avoiding the question.

> Never shipped a str8 couple so hard, checks out that she's bi, the only time I'd ship a str8 couple this hard is if they were also a queer couple.
> implying that the way straight people and gay people love is different (an idea central to the oppression of the lgbt community) and that queer love is somehow better
> simultaneously playing into homophobic ideas for quirkiness points and deflecting the blame away from the misogyny and gender roles that make heterosexual relationships bad by saying it’s different if the heterosexual couple is internally queer
nice
Okay, 1. Literally who are you? This could have been a conversation had on my actual post but okay. Go ahead and force me to be the only vulnerable one in a sithation where you're essentially "calling me out" without facing any consequences if what ur saying is bullshit.
2. That's a lot of fancy words to day "this seems kinda homophobic to me" which tbh makes me not really care about anything ur saying rn. If u have to worm that hard to prove your point, maybe your point is just wrong.
Frankly, I do not care if u - a random stranger on the internet who does not even have the guts to show your blog name - thinks I'm homophobic for not shipping str8 ppl! They're a fictional couple. I don't think gay ppl love different, I just don't lean toward str8 ships :) have a nice day! I'll be deleting any other anon shit u send me, thanks for nothing :)

same gender relationships arent always sexualized and minors can be in relationships together and be valid , dumbfuck
It took me a moment to realize what this in with regard to, and I realize that certain blogs have decided to peg me as an "anti" because I express disapproval or disdain of a select few ships.
Generally, I am in favor of people shipping who they want, and I'm not going to actively campaign to blacklist people who ship those I don't like to see together (which is what both antishippers and proshippers do...the problem is the ostracism and bullying, not the stance on shipping).
That said, there's nothing wrong with declaring a ship a bad ship. That's called having preferences. You should always be allowed to declare preferences regarding fictional characters. You don't have to endorse every ship and should be able and encouraged to campaign against certain ships -- not creators or other people -- if you want. To tell people they shouldn't express feelings about fictional ships is no different than calling them evil for shipping.
Otherwise, you couldn't criticize fans for "straightwashing" same-sex couples by separating them and pairing them in societally traditional pairings, because any and all ships should be supported and they're shipping characters, too.

♡ my frozen lgbt+ headcanons ♡
(yes I'm doing like @ace-queen-of-arendelle cause i was low key hijacking their post x))
obviously, these are headcanons, just my thoughts. i'm non-binary, lesbian, demisexual and probably arospec so my identity has of course an influence on these headcanons. please research the terms you don't know, ecosia is free, do not invalidate other people's identities, etc. i'm not trying to be constructive here really, I'm just vibing. either vibe with me or ignore, don't be an ass, thank you
1) Elsa
first and foremost, Elsa is a lesbian to me. I've seen myself in her since the first movie came out, and fun fact, it's at that time (i was 10) that i realised I was a lesbian myself. thank you Elsa for that awakening! now i ship her (a LOT) with Honeymaren, so I'm not against the headcanon of just aroace Elsa, but I see her more as a lesbian on the ace spectrum. but we really lack aroace representation in general, so I completely understand and enjoy the headcanon of aroace Elsa <3
2) Anna
to me Anna is bisexual for the simple reason that this outfit:
Tumblr media
(screencap by @constable-frozen I believe)
screams this to me:
Tumblr media
that's it. that's the reason. I see colours and go flag!!!!!!!!! its the bi flag!!!!! so bi Anna it is
3) Kristoff
bi as well, mostly because m/f bi couples have an amazing energy and kristanna has a lot of that energy. he could also be polyamorous bc let's be honest, he and ryder had quite a lot of chemistry 👁👁 but he also loves Anna deeply hehe
4) Hans
ugh. cishet. ew /hj
5) Olaf
non binary! yeah snowman is a gendered word but?? olaf knows no gender. only warm hugs. I think olaf could use any pronouns, really. disney loves gender too much sadly and they had to go like Olaf is a Boy Look!! he has Eyebrows but we know. we know
6) Sven
same. that's a reindeer. I don't mean that in a bad way, i love animals but they're too cool to know what gender is
7) Honeymaren
lesbian. really lesbian. I love lesbians man!! we're so sexy
also i like to think that the Northuldra have a really different vision of gender, and that labels like "transgender" or "cisgender" don't really make sense to them. (and it'd be accurate, bc those labels were made by western people, and many indigenous peoples have in fact a different perspective of gender and identities. i'm thinking of the two-spirits, but if I'm wrong please tell me, I'd love to learn more! i hate gender but i love gender history)
that's why to me Honeymaren uses she/they pronouns, or even only they/them pronouns. it's a vibe. I Feel the vibe. that's why often in my fanarts, people say "they" when talking about Maren.
8) Ryder
he knows nothing about women. and he doesn't want to. the boy is gay! that's all i have
9) Yelena
she's giving me aroace vibes tbh! also like Honeymaren i don't think she labels herself as a woman? idk
10) Oaken
Tumblr media
now i feel like he's coded as what people think gay men are? but also that guy in the sauna could be his boyfriend. I'd say Oaken doesn't use labels
11) Iduna
once again, colours!
Tumblr media
purple=ace in my head so that's why I think I hc her as ace
thanks for reading!

LGBTQ+ & Shipping
I'm a little nervous about posting this in light of the drama from some time ago, but I've decided that it's probably never a bad thing to talk about issues like this. In my experience, a lot of people have questions/thoughts/feelings about LGBTQ+ representation and shipping, and civil conversation can hopefully only clarify things.
I'm going to further preface this by saying that this is not in response to anyone or any drama, and I am saying this without the intent of starting drama. I'm not one for callout/correction posts, and were I ever to do that you may rest assured that I'd be straightforward about it, not messing around with vague allusions to people and behaviour. This is purely me talking about my knowledge and experience and most importantly about the thoughts I had in the shower today.
Okay here goes. Putting this below the cut because it's a bit long, but if you're interested in continuing this discussion and maybe learning a bit then I'd encourage you to read on!
The thing about ships is, and maybe we've gotten a bit away from this, but at the end of the day it is about preference. It's about what dynamics, arcs, tropes, etc. you like seeing in a piece of media. It's not something that you should approach like you're a relationship counselor or matchmaker trying to find the perfect mate(s) for your beloved fictional characters. It's not necessarily about how healthy, problematic, or even realistic the relationship is. Sure, you can definitely find a relationship off-putting because it's unhealthy or even abusive, but you can also enjoy watching those twisted dynamics play out on page or screen. Enjoying a messed-up fictional couple doesn't mean you condone that kind of relationship in real life. I mean lots of people like serial killer documentaries and that doesn't mean they condone murder--that's just not how enjoyment works.
This means you can have preferences about the sexual/gender identity of your ships, too, and those preferences don't necessarily reflect the way you feel about relationships "in real life." Those thoughts and feelings might be related though, and that can be okay too! You might enjoy heterosexual relationships more because you yourself are straight, or you might enjoy queer relationships more because you identify as LGBTQ+. Both of these situations are fine. Some people have a hard time enjoying media when they can't identify personally with it, and that isn't inherently bad. What can be bad is seeing some relationships as somehow superior because they're what you prefer, but the fact alone that someone prefers fictional relationships featuring some sexual orientations more than others does not draw automatic conclusions about that person's view on LGBTQ+ issues. A preference is a preference, not a moral manifesto, and it can be held for a variety of reasons that have nothing to do with prejudice and/or homophobia.
The flip-side is, your preferences may reflect your prejudices, maybe even without you knowing. If you have a friend who only ships couples who are in toxic/abusive relationships, you may start drawing conclusions about the way they view relationships in real life. And you might not be entirely wrong to do so. Similarly, if you can't think of a single queer relationship you ship, it may be because you view queerness in general negatively.
The thing is, the person best suited to figuring out whether your preferences ARE affected by prejudice/homophobia is YOU. YOU are in a unique and unparalleled position to analyze what you like and why, and to assess whether or not your lack of interest in certain ships is because you just don't care for the relationship (which is totally valid), or because you find it gross and unpleasant to think about ships "like that" (i.e. that are queer). But without looking critically at your own preferences, being open to thoughtful correction, and committing to fighting your own homophobia, you may be hurting the queer people around you without realising it via the way you interact with LGBTQ+ ships in fandom. And crucially, while you may be best suited to parsing your own interests, you may NOT be the best authority on hurtful/homophobic behaviour. Unless you're already well-versed in the myriad of ways the LGBTQ+ community experiences hate and discrimination, you may not even notice prejudiced behaviours in yourself. For that, trust your queer friends, especially if they're telling you you've done or said something that has hurt them or others.
One last thing: being homophobic is not screwing up one time and being branded HOMOPHOBE for life. Probably all of us, from time to time, have moments where we are homophobic. Homophobia is any words, actions, or beliefs that support the notion that LGBTQ+ people are somehow less valuable than straight people. So you can believe in your heart that queer people are equally valuable and still sometimes do or say things that are homophobic--just like you can love someone and still occasionally do or say things that hurt them. You can even be queer and be homophobic at times; I know sometimes I am.
So it's best to accept that, at times, you will be homophobic. But it's not about being perfectly un-homophobic all the time, it's about being TEACHABLE. It's about listening when someone corrects you, not being defensive, and trying to grow from each correction into someone who is more supportive of the LGBTQ+ community.
#I still don't know if I trust this not to start more drama#but at the same time I'm like#I mean this#and I have to do it too#literally in the shower tonight I was like#why don't I ship Sam and Bucky?#Because I have a strong feeling if one of them were a woman#I would be into it#so yeah this is not a one-and-done process and it's sometimes hard#no one wants to look at themselves and be like I am homophobic#but sometimes you have to! Sometimes that's the only way to do better!#Esp as a queer person it's tricky though#you may feel like you CANT be homophobic but you can#but most likely there's a lot of things going on#personally it's a mess of going my whole life being very comfortable in and sure of my attraction to men#and just in the last few years coming to realise I'm bi#but also aro#and it's a mess#as for the Sam and Bucky thing I think that's the aromanticism rearing its head#I think being aro makes me reluctant to buy into the implication that the best relationship is a romantic one#and so while I'm DOWN to see the growth between these two#I'm not looking for it to be romantic#but there's still that heteronormativity#because again if one of them was a woman#I know I'd likely feel different#anyway the only reason I'm word vomiting this in the tags is I guess to show that it's good to evaluate#even if it's messy#and it doesn't have to be a conversation with emotions running high and people feeling like they're walking on eggshells#sometimes it's just standing in the shower being like#why DO I like/dislike that ship?

POV: you're watching Loki episode 5. Loki and Sylvie share a blanket, and then five minutes later sylvie’s like “we’re the same :)” which comes after them holding hands to cause a Nexus event, Mobius implying they're in love, and Loki appearing to want to confess some sort of adoration for her before being pruned,,, and so far, it seems the showrunners/writers are on board w/ calling it a love story,,,,,,,,,,
let’s dive a bit into this ship.
(note: i'm not going to tag this as "syl//ki," and i will not put any ship in the body text without the "//", but tumblr may take the "syl//ki" out of "anti syl//ki" and put it in the ship tag. that's out of my hands. you need to block "anti syl//ki" if you don't want to see that.)
when it comes to defending or being anti syl//ki, I think a lot of people sort of missed the memo on or forgot about the fact that Loki is a frost giant. I have looked on both Twitter and Tumblr and literally have not seen a single person talk about it in the selfcest debate so far. I've probably missed something. So if you have seen this argument, well, here it is again!
so, syl//ki defenders will say,
It’s not selfcest because they are genetically different. They might have different parents since they were adopted by the Asgardians.
If they were genetically similar, then they would also be genetically similar to Boastful Loki and Alligator Loki.
First of all. Loki’s last name is Laufeyson. Sylvie’s last name is Laufeydottir. Due to the naming conventions used here, both can be assumed to be children of Laufey. I realize we haven’t seen Sylvie’s Laufey, but who’s to say they look any different than the one we saw in Thor? Furthermore, there’s nothing to suggest that they weren’t adopted by the same exact couple (i.e., Odin and Frigga or some variation), and if you’re not ok with Thor and Loki, you probably should consider this. Probably. We'll really just have to see what happens if they develop Sylvie further. Who knows, they might get cold feet in the last episode and actually make her Enchantress (Sylvie Lushton) proper.
The second point really pisses me off not just as someone who loves Norse mythology but also just. The race card. Does no one remember the fact that Loki is actually supposed to be blue? He’s not genetically white. There is nothing in his genes that command him to be white. That is a disguise (originally put on him by Odin if I’m not mistaken? feel free to check me on that).
Loki could literally be any gender and/or any color he wants to be. Hell, we've seen him shapeshift into Steve Rogers briefly and Odin presumably for a good while. Really, it's hard to pass judgement on the relationships that the other Lokis have to their respective timelines. We can only make assumptions based on the evidence we have. (but also have fun with headcanons of course)
(also the funny part about bringing up Boastful Loki is ,, everyone is always like “well, are you trying to tell me that our Loki has the same genes as Boastful/Hammer Loki? 🙄🙄🙄” and like, they won’t come out and just say one is white and one is black like,,, :) they’re trying so hard not to sound racist it’s hilarious. AND THEN TO PUT ALLIGATOR LOKI IN THE SAME CATEGORY. LAUGHABLE. str8 up.)
But concerning the alligator, in Norse mythology, frost giants can have kids that are really just. Out there. Jormungand is a snake that can wrap itself around the world, Fenris is a gargantuan wolf, and Hel is a half dead child. Those are just Loki’s kids (note: in the mythology. they also exist in the comics as his children, but I am also aware that Fenris and Hela are not his children in the MCU and trust me, that peeves me a lot). I’m sure there’s more examples though. So like. Potentially????? Yeah, Loki Prime could be genetically similar to Alligator Loki.
Furthermore, according to this Gizmodo article, Alligator Loki is a Loki (2021) creation, and they admit to playing with the idea that Alligator Loki may not even be a Loki. So take that how you will.
Tumblr media
So my verdict is that Loki and Sylvie are the same person with different looks, possibly some difference in genetics, depending on the mother.
(note: Loki is marked in his file as genderfluid, technically we cannot know what he was assigned at birth. we only know his pronouns. he could be AFAB. Sylvie may be AMAB.)
I don’t ship lok//ius, and I don’t care if Loki gets with a girl (I actually really like Loki and Darcy) so don’t come at me with the biphobia excuse that’s running around. I will say that yes, I would adore seeing Loki in an mlm or wlw relationship. Yes, it is really cliché to have the two opposite gender-presenting leads get together. Yes, I want to see Loki and Sylvie as friends/family. But that’s not what I’m here to talk about. I’m just here to ask if this is selfcest or not.
So yes, Syl//ki really does appear to be a selfcest ship and like, if you’re willing to own that, own it. It looks like that’s how the show’s going so far so,, uh,,, enjoy it if that’s something you want to do I guess. I’m ,, probably not going to though. But congrats on the canon! If it is!
I’m not asking you to stop shipping it, if you do. I'm not even asking you to ship with caution. Overall, I just hope I made you think a little more about it and maybe get a discussion going that doesn't revolve around the same arguments we've heard for the past three weeks.
Because like, it's not hurting anyone to ship it, and if you send hate speech to any shippers or the showrunners, literally what is wrong with you???? there are civil ways to discourse, my lord.
Personally, if I had to ship it, I would only do so as a self-love metaphor, and I think that's as far as I would take it. As it currently stands, it's on the same level of Oncest, so like. it's weird but honestly it doesn't hurt anyone. (and if you don't know what Oncest is, give this video by Sarah Z a watch.) Really it all just amounts to this test from Buzzfeed that you've probably seen in fandom memes before. So you can use that as your squick-o-meter when it comes to this ship.
I will end this by saying I am not pro-ship. Inc//est and pedo//philia have no place in fandom and thinking these are okay could lead to harmful thinking in real life, especially with regards to children in fandom.
Selfcest is not technically on the same level as inc//est, and yes, I know, in the words of the great Buzzfeed Unsolved team, "anytime you have to say technically that's not great" but I really mean it here. We can still say technically here.
TL;DR: yeah syl//ki is more than likely selfcest. don't send hate to people who ship it tho (this includes the showrunners).

Loki spoilers under the cut, along with some opinions in regards to Sylvie and the approach to LGBT+ rep the show has taken.
Now, for starters, we're still one episode from finishing the season and things may be clarified then, but thus far I'm more than a little disappointed regarding some things that I, granted, psyched myself up for and probably shouldn't have.
First: the absolute delight I felt at seeing Loki's sex listed as Fluid on his official TVA file. It's brief, it's in passing, and while performing a preferred gender does not make one cis, the little spiel about "have you ever met a woman variant of us" just sits wrong with me for many a reason. This remark indicates that we're still going off a binary: male Lokis and one Loki who is female, Sylvie, whom the writers and showrunners continue to insist that she is not a Loki despite being a variant. At no point is our variant's gender addressed in the actual story however, which means that every pair of eyes casually watching can assume he is a cisgender male because there is nothing to say otherwise beside a brief glimpse during the title sequence.
Now, we still don't know Sylvie's nexus event. I've seen theories about it relating to her being a "good" Loki (by playing to save Asgard), but there is an overwhelming sense that her crime against the Sacred Timeline has to do with her being "born a girl". And while I understand the "girlboss" commentary they're trying to convey - if this IS her nexus event - as an afab who is now genderfluid, I find the idea disheartening.
They could have done something amazing with Loki's gender identity, they did it with his sexuality ("a bit of both"), but I wholly understand that this isn't what the story is about. I wish it was. I wish we could have characters express who they are without making a big deal out of it, with said character's agency, but I'll let that slide. It's that clear marker of "Sylvie is different from us because she's a cis woman and we're all male" when at least our variant is meant to be genderfluid that really makes me sigh. Disappointed but not surprised.
Second: Loki's bisexuality. My genderfluid bisexual ass got called biphobic because I called Loki and Sylvie's interactions 'comphet'. First of all, I genuinely enjoy them as a romantic couple. I ship them. I also enjoy them as chaotic siblings. I just enjoy their interactions and their relationship, whatever kind of relationship it may be. Now, it is EXTREMELY important to note that a bisexual man being involved with a woman makes him no less bisexual, and vice versa. And I respect that? I've dated both men and women before and I've never been any less bi for it.
My issue here ties back to my previous point about visibility. As powerful as "a bit of both" was, to me as a queer person, it is so easily written off by the casual viewer. By what I've experienced through canon storytelling, Loki and Sylvie do not come off as romantically interested in each other. There is love, but it is a love devoid of fragile and toxic masculinity. It feels like a love divorced from the expected heteroromantic norms, and this is coming from someone who writes romance and has studied the tropes and imagery related to it for years. And I feel like we need to explore this kind of relationship, especially in regards to a character like Loki who is literally just learning how to be a functional person. Hell, even Sylvie mentions how new she is to the concept of friends. I view this as a genuine friendship, and frankly I'm tired of the militant approach a lot of people are taking by stating "either you ship them or you're biphobic".
I'm not very good at organizing my personal feelings into words so bear with me here.
When I said they're 'comphet', it's because the average viewer, queer but mostly straight, can look at them and go "oh yeah they're a couple". Versus, say, Loki and Mobius who have shared an equal if not slightly more profound bond (namely due to the length of their relationship) and people will cry out "just friends, stop trying to make it more".
Do you see my point?
I'm not erasing Loki's bisexuality. I wouldn't dream of it. But I wanted to see it explored by forcing viewers to go "oh he's queer" rather than having them comfortably sit back and ignore it. I'm tired of me voicing who I am only for people to sit back and treat me as if I were some Wish brand woman who vacillates between straight and lesbian.
Again, this show isn't about the presence of queerness (although, how can it not be when we're witnessing Loki change into someone who loves and accepts himself) in the universe, but the individuals behind the show made queerness important. They chose to. By listing him as genderfluid. By having him say he's had both princesses and princes. So far it's felt like I was offered a nice comfy rug to stand on six hours into my eight hour shift working the cash register, was allowed to touch and feel its cushioned surface, but it was never actually given to me to use.
I love Loki with all my heart and soul. It has brought me so much unspeakable joy and laughter, it's made me cry, it's sparked my desire to create. This show has made me care for every single one of its characters, and their journey, and I am forever grateful for that. But that does not mean that, as a queer person, I should not criticize it's approach to queerness. It's a tiny step, but we have so much more to go.
And also - Disney, you promised he would have both female and male love interests on this show. So unless you're giving me a second season where our more stabilized Loki variant DOES tap a little bit of both (or any other mixture of gender identities) we're gonna have to have a serious talk about how you fucking market your shit
Anyway. So yeah.
Give Mobius a fucking jet ski.

Discourse, Supergirl and fans.
The Supergirl situation with William Dey, is far more than about William Dey per se.
I touched on this when I first posted about David Harewood.
What I have seen, and I am still seeing is while some SuperCorp fans were annoyed about the preview for episode 12, this was also coming from a diverse section of the fandom. That David (and others) have singled out the SuperCorp fandom is both unfair, and unhelpful. But that is a different discussion altogether.
So - I am going to repeat and expand on some of what I wrote at the time to try and explain why I, (and others) have found Supergirl to be really problematic at the moment.
First of all: There is no doubt Supergirl currently has a diverse cast, inc. LGBTQ representation.
However, all the diversity in the world means absolutely nothing if a program is seemingly only playing lip service to the characters.
Compare and contrast with Legends of tomorrow. They have 6 women. 2 Muslim superheroes (a TV first). 5 characters are LGBTQ, including Charlie; who is recognised as gender fluid. 4 people of colour. The lead is a woman, who is bisexual, in a canon relationship with a lesbian, and is a superhero.
They do this without it being made a big deal of, enjoyed by LGBTQ and heterosexual audience alike. But it is a huge deal for many because of that diversity, and just as importantly they haven't overloaded the cast numbers, so they all get good solid storylines through a season. A season that is also shorter than Supergirl.
Legends are an example of how you can put in a diverse minority cast, without it becoming forced or cumbersome. It isn't without fault sure, but no program is.
So where is Supergirl going wrong at the moment?
Let's use William, as the crux of the problems are best shown with his character, but it isn't limited to him. I will put first - this is absolutely *not* a criticism towards Staz Nair, who I respect (& like, as far as one can from limited SM interaction). All too often the accusations are made that if you don't like a character, you hate the actor. That is categorically not true for me, nor others I've seen posting about this. Of course if anyone does hate on the actor, that is not okay.
So, back to William. I get the reason he came along in regards to Russell and so the Andrea connection. That story made sense.  What hasn't made sense - William being used as a journalist, when Nia is right there! Nia has barely had any screen time, and virtually none as a journalist; you know - her actual job. I'm not sure what the minutes on screen ratio has been this season between the two, but it has felt completely slanted towards William as a viewer, at least until now.
First instead of Kara and Nia investigating Leviathan after William was 'exposed' in the earlier episodes, now Nia is sidelined again, because they want Kara to team up with William to investigate Lex.
Why? Why do they need that journalistic pairing, when Nia - who as a Superhero, is better placed if danger from Lex occurs. But no, they're making it about Kara having to work with William because Lex threatened to kill him. Plus Nia was being mentored by Kara. Is she no longer being mentored by Kara? Are they a team? Even if the mentoring has ended, Nia is still not being utilised as a journalist.
I am utterly baffled as to why they feel this arc makes any sense. Moreso when an already established character gets sidelined.
I'm also getting tired of seeing anyone who sees these valid opinions about current storyline as being trolls (or the comments all SuperCorp fans are just outright haters. No - SuperCorp fans are a large diverse group, that have incredible artists, fanfic writers, and social media users. Many also multi-ship. To place a blanket statement about a whole fandom as large as SC, is hateful. All fandoms have some who are problematic, but to single out an entire group is not right).
So back to my thoughts. An episode can have some great aspects to it, but it can also be highly problematic to some fans, & receive valid criticism or valid opinions for it. For example, the latest episode of Batwoman. The Alice/Beth story was great. The acting superb. What I found worrying was the way they made Sophie feel guilty for legitimate reasons why she had led a closeted lifestyle. That lifestyle is valid, for Sophie and many LGBTQ people, and for good reason, including keeping some people safe from harm. I felt it was a clumsy attempt for Alice to get into Sophie's mind; it could've been tackled other ways, so it felt wrong they used her sexuality as a way to achieve that. Being closeted for many literally keeps them alive. So that was one hell of a poor choice in my opinion. Yet others have made perfectly credible counter arguments that it showed the difficulties faced by many LGBTQ people. So, great episode, valid criticism/opinion from both points of view. It also highlights you can have excellent episodes, but they can have legitimate issues.
Nor does differences of opinion, as long as it is respectful, makes those voicing them a bully, no matter how much you disagree.
At the end of this, if you don’t agree, and your opinion makes you say something that is intentionally hurtful (directly or indirectly to a person or group of people), it's a bad thing. The key word being intentionally. We all make mistakes, and responses that could've been better, & we all need to be aware of that, but if it is an intended attack, don't be surprised if others call you out for your behaviour.
So now what in regards Supergirl?
I know ultimately that this show is about Supergirl, but it is also about those around her as family & friends. I understand there are only so many minutes in one episode. What I don't understand is why those precious minutes are going to a character, when they have one perfectly placed to do the same role. Why they have to potentially explore another relationship, when we have one canon relationship, one canon on/off again relationship & one relationship that while isn't canon in terms of romantic, it is a big story in terms of best friends, all seemingly sidelined. Which brings me to the Kara fighting for Lena's soul aspect. Again, I am not seeing a lot of fighting for anything, except more and more fans fighting themselves and cast.
Then you just need to look at the dislikes that teaser was given on YouTube, and compare them to previous ones. I've attached screenshots to show this.
A serious misjudgment was made by someone on how that teaser would be received, and again I will stress, this dislike hasn't just been from one area of fandom, but multiple areas. For many it wasn't just about William, but the culmination of unease that has built for a few episodes. A prime example of the straw that broke the camel's back. If you are solely focused on one area of fandom for this discourse (as many blame SuperCorp fans), you need to step back and recognise you are not allowing yourself to see the whole picture. To focus solely on one thing, rather than acknowledging the wider audience are saying this, does not make you the better fan. To dismiss it as trolls, is being dismissive of good, regular fans with legitimate questions or concerns. It is insulting to many of us.
I will be honest, I had high hopes for this season. I also knew it was likely going to be pretty confusing at times since it was given as 'our Black mirror season' and 'nothing is as it seems.' I accepted that.
However, all it seems at the moment is a jumbled mess from pre and post Crisis. They just doesn't appear to be any cohesion at all, which is making it really difficult as a viewer. Add in the changes post Crisis and it feels even more of a mess.
Of course, they could bring in more cohesive elements soon, but considering that we know episode 13 is 'It's a wonderful life,' and Alex Danvers in a later episode is wearing a Super suit - I just sense this whole 'nothing is as it seems' side we appear to be getting isn't changing any time soon, & with episodes running out, with so many strings running through at the moment, it feels really discombomulated. If by seasons end, they pull it off and you can look back and see how it's played out as a whole, I will be the first to say well done for that part.
I do though think right now Supergirl feels chaotic beyond expectation, and no end in sight. I feel there have been too many character additions this season (particularly Andrea & William) that is taking screen time away from Kara, Alex, Nia, Lena, Kelly et al.
It feels like a mess of unnecessary pairings and the crux of the story seems to have been lost in the midst.
That is causing confusion for fans, that is also beginning to become frustration. That frustration is spilling over. Add in the genuine and extremely legitimate concerns over the LGBTQ issues that have arisen (again from far more than just SuperCorp fans), and the frustration has built even more.
I can only hope the next couple of episodes address some of this and not complicate the mess further.
Whatever happens, Supergirl is not doing well in terms of a storyline that is gripping for fans, that is now top heavy with regulars, taking screen time from established characters, and a social media blunder that has so far only exacerbated the simmering uncertainty being felt by many.
It might improve, and I sincerely hope it does, but they are edging into the potential for the anger felt by fans to become an all out riot if they don't stop and see where valid criticism is being given. If this season continues on in this vein, then there is going to be huge swathes of fans drifting away. The concerns are legitimate. I wish it could be seen as that.
