Just saw Kung Fu Panda 4. Here are some thoughts.
Plot was... okay. Nothing super special, but it was fine enough for the kind of story the movie was trying to tell. And there were some great imagery and animation moments. I honestly don't get all the complaints about the animation. I saw one thing on TV tropes say it'd because it's not something like Puss in Boots Two or The Bad Guys, but I'm honestly fine with it not being like those. I feel like if all animated movies used that style, people would just start to complain that they're all the same.
Zhen was fine as a character. Bit of the usual "thief with a heart of gold" type character, but while I do think her changing was a bit fast, I can get why it happens. Po's the first person to show her genuine kindness with little alterior motive, and combined with a later betrayl, I can see her motivation for becoming a better person. Her voice acting wasn't too bad, but I think it could've been better in some dramatic moments. Also, while the movie doesn't draw attention to it, I do think there's a lot of parallel that could be drawn between her and Po, not just with how they grew up but also in their parental figures. Not to mention, they ultimately aren't THAT different as characters. They're both goofy people but grew up being looked down on by others and seem to use humor or goofiness as a defense mechanism. Just that she uses snark whereas he uses his big happy personality.
I REALLY like Po in the movie. Not just because he's his usual big fun self, but because he's still just as, if not more competent as he was in the previous movies. A big issue I had with the How To Train Your Dragon franchise was how Hiccup seemed to keep being less competent or capable in the movies. But no. Po's still able to kick ass and is the skilled warrior he should be after three movies of fighting. And I do think his fear of losing his dragon warrior title is understandable since that HAS been a big part of his identity across all three movies. Some might say that it's odd he's so afraid of change since he became a teacher in the last movie, but that was just adding on to his the responsibilities he already had. I would say his arc of becoming a spiritual leader was neglected some by the end and could've used a bit more focus.
Po's dad's are great. At first, I thought their subplot was just a comedic b-plot, but I liked how they ended up getting their and providing Po emotional support. And again, while it's not given much focus, their relationship and how they encourage Po creates a nice parallel between Zhen and her parental figure.
The Chameleon as a villain isn't THAT interesting, but she's not terrible. Personality wise, she's okay, but nothing spectacular. I do think her backstory was interesting, and, like the past three villains, her backstory mirrors Po's in a way. Which I honestly kind of wished they'd focused on a little more. I think it would've given her more depth that she's hinted to have.
Yes, the Furious Five aren't in this move for 99 percent of it. But.....I think it works. Because the whole point of the movie is about Po and Zhen. Them building their trust and relationship to get to the point they are by the end of the movie. And having the Furious Five their might have made things feel overstuffed.
Ultimately, I think it's a good movie. Nothing AMAZING but it's good and It does pick up more in the second half. Overall I'd say this around a 7.5 out of ten if I had to describe it.

Kim Possible x Ron Stoppable ship analysis!
I'll go through the episodes I know have something shipping related and analyse the moments and try to think what the characters are thinking!
Edited the final movie stuff btw! It's better now! Also now with pictures and GIFs!
S1 EP1: Crush
Ron doesn't really like Mankey (says his name mockingly) or the idea that Kim likes him. He later mentions this in So the Drama ("I was never in favor of that but I was there for Kim.")
I like how they're comfortable enough to talk about their crushes. In the past, sure, but now as well!
"We always go together." (To dances? What other "school functions" are there?) I kinda really wish we could've seen one of those. Like it was obvious to Ron that they would still go together! Idk how American schools work and how many dances they'd have been to at this point, but they really must be comfortable with each other to go to dances together like that. Just two pals having fun!
Neither is jealous of the other planning to take a date to the dance. A bit awkward and taken aback, sure, but both seem to be fine with it. I'd say neither is crushing at this point, but as mentioned earlier, Ron isn't fully on board with the Mankey thing even if he helps Kim with it.
Ron might ask all the other girls to the dance cuz he feels a bit left out? Not jealous left out, but a bit lost cuz it's a new situation?
"Contrary to popular belief, I am not dating Kim Possible." Proof that at this point they are aware of the idea of them being together, even if they aren't for or into it. Not a new concept, but not one they'd consider. Ron also tries to help Kim with Josh with this, clearly caring more about their friendship than whatever he thinks of Mankey.
Ron really encourages her to ask Mankey to the dance. "You can handle this!" Sweet guy.
S1 EP8: Mind Games
Small thing but Ron says that Kim is pretty <3 ("smart, athletic, pretty and popular")
Ron (as Kim) has a soff face when they practice cheerleading and are back to back <3 Looks at her, smiles and closes his eyes and leans against her <33 No idea why though. Kim has a similar expression but she just enjoys doing the routine, she smiles the whole time. Could be platonic "I like to be close to her", could be him subconsciously appreciating the closeness in a different way? No major "crushage" though.
Tumblr media
S2 EP2: Grudge Match
Kim's had a crush on someone and now Ron has a crush. I don't think they have feelings for each other at this point since both are pursuing other people.
More open talking about feelings. Both are so supportive.
Ron's very aware that people might think they're a couple doing couple things (doesn't want Zita to see them coming out of the movie theater)
Kim's all "yeah, so?" and "you.. and me.. on a.. date?" which imo means that she doesn't think of them dating as a thing that's likely to happen.
Ron, on the other hand, goes "it could happen!" which tells me that he's more open to the idea and has maybe considered it before. Not enough to act on it but is aware and not as much against it as Kim. Still very much thinks of Kim as a friend more than anything else since he's into Zita rn.
Kim goes "I'm gonna say something that I've never said to you before", and Ron seems unnecessarily shocked or interested? To me it seems like he might have expected her to confess or smth like that based on the convo topic, idk.
S2 EP11: Exchange
Ron is clearly interested in Yori. Stares and swoons and stuff. Wiggles his eyebrows like an idiot lol. Super happy about her kissing his cheek. ("Yeah I love this place!!") Pointing this out since he seems different when they meet later in S3.
S2 EP13: A Very Possible Christmas
First of all I love how much time Ron spends with the Possible family! He joins their Christmas party <3 Seems like it's not his first time joining, either.
Also Kim, really, a cyber scrapbook of their memories together?? That's adorable. I'd cry too. Platonic but super cute.
Two hugs in this ep. Platonic but super cute.
They're really sweet to each other. Ron wanting to give the best gift to Kim and Kim looking all over the world for Ron.
Lol, does Drakken ship it? He puts them under the mistletoe. Ron found it though... Who put it up? Drakken does put the ribbon thingy on it so maybe he did.
They aren't that awkward about it, but Ron does laugh it off and Kim does give him a quick peck on the cheek. He says a positively surprised "oh" and touches his cheek with an awkward smile. He's a bit taken aback but doesn't seem to think about it too much, and neither does Kim. It's platonic to her it seems?
Ron's more confused than when Yori kissed him, since the girls are different to him? He doesn't celebrate like he did with Yori. Intriguing... "Yeah!!" vs "Oh!"... I think his reaction to Kim's peck is more genuine? Less "mr popular ladies man"?
Tumblr media
"Season's greetings from the Possibles"? I see you there Ron lol. He's part of the fam.
S2 EP19: Blush
Again, Ron's not super into the Mankey business. ("Mankey-monkey conspiracy")
Ron says he "Finds the whole 'dating thing' overrated. Who would subject themselves to that?" Is that jealous talk or has he not had great experiences with it before? The Zita thing did crash and burn pretty fast at least. Maybe he also thinks of how Kim turns into a mess around guys? Degrading? Embarrassing?
"So he takes you to dinner, you two see a movie, big tap-dancing whoop! We do that stuff together all the time!" I see you there Ron. He compares their time together to dating...... More to mock the concept of dating than saying that they're like a couple? Does sound a bit jealous though..
He's much more negative towards him than in S1 EP1. Intriguing... The romantic-platonic levels might be changing there..
Kim's call log is mostly Ron. That's sweet. Probably platonic but sweet.
Tumblr media
He gives her an awkward thumbs up when he saves her and lets her enjoy the rest of her date. That is an uncomfortable face though, Ron... I'm definitely moving him into the romantic category at this point. He likes her, but doesn't know it?
Kim's still platonic and very into Josh. Maybe.
Sitch In Time:
Could be (and really should I think) read as best friends being separated, but since I already put Ron in the romantic category, it hurts just a little bit more. Still tough to lose a best friend though, so no major "crushage" yet imo.
Ron wants younger teen him to grow to be a "babe magnet" but that's just his typical "mr wanna be popular" speaking. He does dumb stuff like that later as well. Also none of that happened? Time travel stuff?
Oh yeah now we're getting to the good stuff
S3 EP1: Steal Wheels
"Official Ron night". Cute.
Platonic but Kim's jealous of Ron spending more time with Felix.
I understand the whole "he's my best friend!" stuff but also shows how possessive she is of him?
S3 EP2: Emotion Sickness
Ron wants to protect Kim from seeing Mankey with Tara. Sweet dude.
Kim's over Mankey. "Grew apart. Time to move on."
Ron's bummed out about not realizing that Tara used to like him. Doesn't wallow in it though, which seems to me like he never had that much interest in her.
Ron's super awkward when Kim goes all flirty, and I'd say it's because she's not acting like herself. Been odd all day. Says that she's freaking him out. Weird enough for him to run away from her.
Monique asks if Kim liking him is not good and Ron goes "I don't know, it's not that I haven't thought about this.. I mean who hasn't..." Which really tells us that he has considered it before. It's not a new thought to him.
The 'who hasn't' part though? Who hasn't shipped them or who hasn't thought of Kim liking them? I'd say it's the first. People do often think they're a couple so it's once again understandable that he's considered it as well.
Tumblr media
Ok, the kiss. He's surprised, but definitely into it. Fully kissing back and embracing her, even though she's "just a friend" to him and obviously acting weird. It's not gross since he doesn't pull back. He's not against it, even if it's a "in the heat of the moment" kinda thing.
If it was Yori or Zita? Would probably somewhat kiss back too. I think he'd have a different expression though. Less content, more confused and awkward idiot playboy? Would let them do "most of the work" and not fully embrace like that? He just wasn't as comfortable with them.
If he didn't already like the kisser? If it was a pretty girl he might have just stood there all confused but let himself be kissed (see Bonnie in S4).
Idiotic grin afterwards? "Whatever you say"? Would probably have a similar reaction to Zita or Yori kissing him, but I still say there would be more awkwardness and celebrating aka babe magnet stuff. Also important to note, he liked those two. Kim is getting a similar - if not better - reaction.
He seriously considers dating Kim.
"What's not to like about Kim? I mean she's smart, cute... Dating could be good, you know, the date thing."
Still, he's super worried about what it could do to their friendship. I read this as him not being ready for it or feeling like it isn't natural - which, of course, it isn't. Being friends is more important than this unnatural thing that's going on, even if he does get kisses out of it.
"We're a great team, but dating could complicate things." Understandable to be afraid of change (he is bad with that), but I think it's mostly how unnatural and sudden it is.
Tumblr media
Would probably swoon over any pretty girl talking to him like that, but there is a hint of "I knew Kim was pretty but wow." in there imo. Definitely not a platonic reaction there my guy. Uncomfortable but into it.
"So I guess the crush and everything was all moodulator, huh?" he says while looking sad and disappointed. Guess he did want it to be real after all?
Kim's "Not everything. There's still fireworks." though? Confusing. Is that her straight out admitting that she thinks there's something there? She does say a few eps later when Ron's bummed out about not getting that Yori liked her that "you got me", so maybe she just likes to stay stuff like this?
Also Ron is so happy about her words with his "You think so?" and is a bit disappointed/confused? again when Kim points at the sky.
My headcanon is that Kim's really starting to get feelings and realize there might be something there after this episode.
S3 EP4: Bad Boy
First things first, cozy movie night. Friends do that too, but I've been there. More special if there's feelings there. Which both have at this point.
Tumblr media
Ron hasn't managed to get a date with him before (to a wedding) and goes "Unless.." and looks at Kim. Immediately awkward, tugs at shirt, looks away. He considered her a date-date for a bit there.
"Not that I'm asking you." That wouldn't be as awkward if there were no feelings there. Friend date. Both are thinking of a date-date. Which is awkward to think about cuz they're still just friends.
First time Kim seems to actually react like Ron does. Awkward and in denial. Both label it as awk-weird. See above.
Ron is intrigued about Kim liking bad boys. Both that and girls liking bad boys in general cause more babe magnet shenanigans. Definitely tryna attract other girls though.
Tumblr media
"Thanks for being my date- uh, friend", he says. They do go together, and everything's fine. A bit funny of Kim to make sure he doesn't think of it as a date-date though. Maybe she just hasn't accepted her feelings yet? Ron's happy to call it a date though.
S3 EP9: Overdue
Shego asks Ron where Kim is, and he goes "She's not my girlfriend!" very suspiciously. Leaves me a bit confused though. At least shows that he's been thinking about the possibility? Linking the gf term to her as well. Such denial can only mean he'd prefer the opposite.
"Ooooh... Awkward...." with a laugh too. That's very suspicious my guy.
S3 EP12: Gorilla Fist
Happy to see Yori ofc, but clearly lacks the "OH YEAH YORI HI" factor. A lot chiller. Over her, into Kim.
Kim's very jealous. If it wasn't obvious before, it is now. She's interested.
I feel like Ron's trying not to make Kim get the wrong idea about Yori when they first meet. "She's not my secret girlfriend!!" type of talk imo.
"I knew he crushed on someone when he was there!" Very platonic of you Kim. Makes one think.. Has she had some feelings for him all this time? There's the "It took 12 stinking years for you to kiss me!" in S4 so it's not impossible. Small, 'not wanting to accept them' kinda feelings she's tryna cover up with other guys? Who knows.
More great denial. Aka the opposite of what she's saying. Very jeal.
Ron's super smug about Kim "freaking over about his friend Yori". Happy about Kim being jealous huh? Dude's so in love already. Cute.
Ron's not super phased about being caught by Yori. Business like usual, nothing special there. No swooning.
Kim asks about their relationship, obviously curious and jealous. More ok with her now though. Shocked about the kiss though.
Tumblr media
Ron has a calmer reaction to Yori's cheek kiss than before. Eyes widen and he smiles, laughs in a flattered way? Still different from S2. Immediately tries to explain to Kim what just happened lol.
He's only a bit disappointed when Kim tells him Yori actually liked him.
"Why can't girls be more obvious? - - How am I supposed to know what's going on?" "Well, you got me." Very sus of you Kim. Even says it a bit shyly I think? Indirect confession? Not that indirect though. Ron still misses it.
And finally, some notes from So the Drama:
Cute how Ron grabs onto Kim when they're falling. He know she protecc.
"Captain of the chess team. Or worse." She makes a scared face? An 'oh no' type expression? It's really emphasising how, at least in the context, Ron is anything but boyfriend material to her. I know Bonnie's talk is affecting her, but she really shows no trace about having feelings for him in S3, which she absolutely did have btw!
"Is there anything sadder than going to the prom with your 'just a friend'?" A bit confusing, Kim. Does she want someone else, or does she want to actually go with Ron? As more than friends? Or does she think she's unlovable and a failure n stuff if she doesn't bring a romantic partner? That's more likely, but one can dream.
"I mean, a "date" date would be nice, but a stinking 'bf'..." Another confusing Kim line. She was looking at Ron before speaking. I'm reading it as 'a real date with someone (else? Not actually sure if she's excluding him with that) would be nice, but I wish there was at least a guy', which is pretty much how the Finnish dub put it. It clears this up a little. The tone of the conversation is that she'd like a "proper" boyfriend who's not like Ron and fits better into the food chain etc so this makes sense I think. Kim's so difficult.
"I'm gonna end up with Ron!" "Mom, he's not a guy, he's Ron!" He's "obviously" not boyfriend material! I love denial and whatever but she really doesn't seem to want to accept the idea. Bonnie is affecting her yadda yadda but still! Stuff like this is why I think everything after the confession happens a bit too quickly. She acts like he's the worst case scenario which is a bit odd for someone who kisses him not that much later, right? Is she covering up her existing feelings out of fear she'll be mocked? Has she just not come to terms with her feelings yet? I can't accept her coming to like him only after and because of his confession, that would be too shallow of her, and odd since she was this against it earlier. She's not that desperate for attention. There was definitely something there before, but she's just not willing to see it until he confesses?
Hooked up? "Eww. Kim and me? No, no, no. Best friend since forever but not like that." The denial sounds genuine, I guess he just hasn't realized or accepted his feelings at this point. But then he's immediately uncomfortable by Eric's "extreme steam" comment. "Let's not talk about her that way ever again." To me that sounds protective. He does not appreciate others talking that way about her. Hint of jealousy? Doesn't wanna think about her like that himself? Confusing.
Immediately jealous and uncomfortable with Eric's advances and Kim's obviously positive reaction to him - he knows how Kim acts when she gets a crush. Cue sad montage. It's kinda funny how he still hangs out with them on their dates btw. Doesn't wanna give her up? Friends don't join their friends on dates though. Did Kim's parents make him be their chaperone? Could see James doing that.
More and more jealous as time passes. He angy. Dramatic "cooties in the area"! Understandable. They're barely noticing him anymore.
I always thought he took the pepperoni off the pizza cuz Kim and Eric had a silly moment related to it. He seems like the kind of guy who would like pepperoni otherwise.
Probably feels betrayed as well. Kim was so quick to say bye to him. Barely even looked at him. He could see it as 'Bye bye, this person is more important to me now.'
Still a good friend though and immediately goes to help her find her dad when asked. Manages to act normal as well. (I'm kinda mad about how useless he's in the action scenes btw.)
Ron's monologue about his feelings is the best scene in this movie. I love that stuff. He goes pretty far back as well with the locked braces thing, which is part of the 'she's been with other guys before which I wasn't in favor of but I was there for her' talk. I wonder what he thought of it all back then. He was a really supportive friend at least, helped even if the situation was uncomfortable or odd.
"Something's different now. There's something between us... Who am I kidding? That's not different. Something's been there a long time. I think there's something there. Does she?" Peak. (I've quoted that so many times here, it's so good.) Also now I kinda have proof of this, having gone through a lot of the series just for this post. For how long though...?
He's finally willing to look at his feelings properly and puts everything into perspective. Comparing this to the 'Emotion Sickness' monologues? He's less afraid of change. He's feeling different enough to want to actually go for it this time. The situation is more dire, but more real.
"There's something there". Does he figure out that Kim's been showing signs of feeling the same? The "Does she?" is probably him wondering if she's realized it too. The "something" could be anything from S3's awkwardness to smaller changes in their dynamic from S1 and before. Suddenly not going to dances together and having to think about this stuff more.
He's actually saying that he wants to date her. "Kim's worth [telling her about my feelings even if it's humiliating]!" "What if I start yapping about my feelings and she chooses Eric and not me?" Just the 'realizing his feelings' talk is great, but he actually wishes she would choose him as her boyfriend. Proper acceptance of feels right there. No denial whatsoever. He will hide it for Kim's sake, but he wants to date her. (I love this soff dude!!)
Dude's skilled for being able to act like he didn't just realize and accept a lot of scary and life changing feelings. Chooses friendship over any jealous and possessive behavior, even if it is a bit tough at times. Gets a bit smug when they do decide to go save the world though.
Tiny cute detail: when on the scooter together and Ron drives, Kim holds his shoulders, but when Kim drives, Ron has his arms around her/hands on her hips.
Confession scene. (Peak Ron for getting Kim out of her "pity fiesta" btw.) He's simply saying that a guy, a real guy that's good for her, exists, and that he's here, about to say 'someone like me'. A bit of a roundabout way to say it but it gets the point across. Mostly saying it to make her understand that she's not unlovable? There's a hint of 'guess this is a good opportunity to shoot my shot', too, but in a selfless way, not asking her to like him back. Just wants her to know so she can get her groove back. He thinks they could work. (Includes himself in "guys that are better for you than Eric")
Kim's reaction confuses me a bit once again. "Oh. Really?" She's happy about it, sounding hopeful too? 'Didn't think he actually liked me' surprised? 'I'm not unlovable' surprised? Both? 'It wasn't unrequited after all and I shouldn't have been afraid'? Why she so difficulttt
Kim's oddly flirty when hurrying to the prom, but the prom scene itself is adorable. Them being awkward about the change. Some distance inbetween that Rufus gets rid of lol. Stuff's different but they're still themselves.
Tumblr media
Soff kiss with the soffest gazes I've ever seen. A bit quick to get there, but adorable. The point of a proper kiss is that both are in on it, and here they are. Better than the 'Emotion Sickness' kiss, but Ron's even more comfortable and less lovestruck with it. He knows it's real this time and that he's ready for it now. Kim's also finally getting over the food chain talk and really accepts her feelings for him. Feeling like 'This is still a bit odd, but it's him, and it's alright. I trust him more than anyone else. He's safe, and this feels right." or smth?
Tumblr media
Is it finally done? This took... Almost 7 hours. It's 3am right now, so it might've started to get messy halfway lol. I hope someone out there gets something out of all this hard work.
Extra few hours (like 5, one edit didn't go through...) from editing after waking up. The movie stuff makes more sense now!

Sparrow is such a tragic figure to me.
Despite spending most of their childhood in the slums, they still had moral building blocks and dreams for the future- only for Theresa's plan with Lucien to fuck up so exponentially that Sparrow is traumatized for life... but whose pain is steered back to be utilized to support Theresa's agenda. One way or the other. Wether or not she cared about Sparrow doesn't really matter, because she still got what she wanted in the end.
Right? So Sparrow spent years of their life dedicating themself to their quest for revenge (oblivious to Theresa's plan); sacrificing their own life in the process; only to not only loose everyone along the way, but also get stranded by (potentially) the only semblance of family they had left.
How you play the game morally, and the wish you make at the end is super important to your own interpretation of Sparrow- but in MY game Sparrow literally cannot break from what their motivation drilled into them. Duty; sacrifice; destiny; all that crap... But, like, it goes beyond the mission. The one time they committed to something purely because they wanted to and they could (having a family), they were 1) separated from them for the majority of the time because of the mission, and then 2) Lucien straight up had them killed. Same with her dog. So yeah no their entire life experience fucked them up pretty good in terms of how they view pursuing personal desires.
So, naturally, when it comes time for them to make the wish they're still committed to the 'greater good' because that's what a hero is supposed to do. It's how they were raised, and the only thing that makes sense to them. So many people suffered like Rose did at the hands of Lucien, and the only way Sparrow believes they can make up for the lose of their lives is by sacrificing their own. They truly do believe that if they are whatever the people need forever that one day the guilt from loosing whatever life they, Rose, and everyone else could've had will one day disappear- as if it's a debt to be repaid.
But, like, that's not Sparrow. That's the hero figure they turned into. Sparrow is the fucking shit. Living it up in taverns, "fuck it, we ball", and going on silly little adventures was Sparrow's whole thing. And then the Spire happened and they got all weird- but that's a whole other discussion for a whole other post.
Sparrow gets left behind with no compass or proper resolve, but is also a grown ass adult... now what? They go about the next few years just doing quests and favors for the people, right. It's a simple life that fills the time, and hey; maybe one day they'll finally reach inner peace. Get a small farm in the countryside, learn to live off the land, and enjoy the small joys of nature as the world no longer needs you. You did a good thing, and now you can rest- NOPE, NEVERMIND. THERESA'S GOT SUN TO SAY.
So yeah those barely processed feelings from before and the mindset that caused them so much difficulty resurfaces and they spend literally they rest of their life dedicating themself to a half-thought out political campaign for... some reason they don't even really understand. They still help out the people and try to help the kingdom wherever they can, but like... they don't understand why? They don't even know how to run a kingdom. I feel like they would've found it amusing if they allowed themselves to feel the sense of joy and pleasure they've been deprived of for so long (especially since Rose's dream of living in the castle rubbed off on Sparrow all those years ago), but they just... can't, anymore.
I think having a family again helped. At least a little bit. It was... different. Sparrow was constantly terrified of the future awaiting one of the two, but tried not to let it affect them too much. I mean, they didn't grow up in the same place that they had, and that's enough to being them a little bit of relief. They'd do all the could to leave behind a promising start to them- knowing that they wouldn't be there to guide them. God, they hope they have an easier time than they did.
Sparrow dies relatively young, and without internal peace or resolve. They never got to truly feel proud of the good they did, even about their greatest personal triumph. They will only exist as how they impacted the world.

Steddie asks 😊
3. Favorite three Steddie fanfics?
oh man okay this is SUCH a hard question because obviously there are SO MANY MORE than just 3 that i would consider favorites!!! which is why i have to cheat and list more than 3 sklgjds. i tried to narrow it down, i really really did but. i am horrible at decisions so 5 favorites you will get instead slkdjdsl
let it roll into the night by @toburnup (aka adure on ao3) this one is very special to me bc vio wrote it for me and i love them very very much for that, but also it's just an absolutely incredible fic and it is filled with SO much yearning, like it made me ache so bad (in the best way possible) and i just really really loved it. (i also love literally anything they write so. if you have not PLEASE go check out their fics!!!)
eddie's spectacular, awkward, very safe, very fun first time by @alligator-writes this is pretty much exactly what it says in the title lol and it is quite literally one of my absolute all time favorite headcanons come to life. and the second i read this fic- no the second i saw this fic, i was sold and obsessed already. ria TRULY never misses, ever, and i highly hiiiiiighly recommend literally anything she writes also!!!
the most remarkable thing about you standing in the doorway is that it's you by greatunironic i am sure you must have heard about this fic, everybody has heard about this fic. but there's a reason for that!! it is SO good and SO emotional and just SOOOO. there's just something about those coming back together later in life fics that really fucking hits, and this one hits HARD. plus i love all the little like interview snippets and transcripts that are sprinkled throughout, that's such a fun extra flavor to the fic and the format and i love that!
doing nothing with you by @red-0ak-tree i love love LOVE this fic so so SO much omg. i always love fics that have steve and robin getting out of hawkins and moving in together, and this one has the excellent wonderful fantastic bonus of eddie practically, unofficially moving in too (and also nancy!!). it's so charming and sweet and emotional and the slow burn is soooo good and there's just so so much to love about this one!!
stuck in indianapolis (feeling not so alone) by @oatflatwhite (aka iphigenias on ao3) this is another one that i truly adore so very much!! another delicious slow burn, another moving out of hawkins, another unofficial move in until it is official!! the writing is incredible, the characterization is incredible, the dynamic built up is incredible!! i cannot recommend this one enough!!
9. Do you imagine they would have been childhood friends?
i think that if the circumstances of their childhoods had been different and if they'd had the opportunity to meet as kids, yes, i think they could have been childhood friends. it's clear that they are very different people who come from very different backgrounds, but that doesn't stop them from getting along so well now. they just mesh so well together. there's something about them that just fits. and i think had they been able to nurture that from the start there could've been an even stronger bond between them (which is saying something because the bond they do have is a ridiculously strong one already).
11. Which one would confess their attraction/love first? Why?
ooh okay love this one!!
when it come to confessing their attraction first, i think it would be steve. i think eddie would probably realize his own attraction first, but i don't think he would do or say anything about it because 1. he thinks steve is straight 2. he doesn't want to make steve uncomfortable 3. he doesn't want to ruin their friendship because like. steve is one of the closest friends he's ever had, and they're so comfortable with each other and there's so much love there (even if it isn't the same kind eddie wishes it were). he wouldn't want to jeopardize that. and even if eddie started to pick up on steve's mutual attraction, i think he would still hold back on his own, because this is still so new for steve, and eddie doesn't want to scare him off, or acknowledge something that maybe steve himself isn't ready to acknowlede, and he also eddie doesn't want to just be some experiment. it means too much to him. so he waits. he leaves the ball in steve's court. which means that steve is the one who has to make the first move. steve is the one who kisses eddie first. steve is the one who tells eddie, scared out of his mind but still pushing that back to be brave, that he likes him, that he really likes him.
when it comes to confessing their love first, i think that would fall to eddie. we allllll know steve's experience with love. nancy wheeler was the last romantic partner that he said confessed his love to, and that was all bullshit. so, i think steve would be ready to say it first (he usually is, in any relationship he has, though i do think nancy was probably the first one he actually meant it with) but he would be so god damn scared. he would be terrified. so he would swallow it down. he would keep it locked up. he wouldn't say it because the last time he did everything crumbled around him. and he doesn't want that. not again. not with eddie. so he bites his tongue and he doesn't say it even though every cell inside his body is screaming it. (even though he says it perfectly clearly in every action anyways). so that means that eddie is the one to say it first. eddie is the one to turn to steve, to grasp his face, to look him in the eye and say "steve, i- i love you". and when it happens steve is both over the goddamn moon about it. and there's still a teeny tiny part of him that is scared, that thinks the rug could be pulled out from beneath his feet at any second. but then he looks into eddie's eyes, and he can see that he means it. and he trusts eddie, too. he knows that eddie chooses his words carefully when he wants to, that he doesn't say things that he doesn't mean. and he means this. steve can tell.

I think we can all agree hawkmoth was not meant to be a main long-lasting villain. So what do you think would have been better to have as the main villain? One thing I see a few people do is to go the shonen anime way and have a far-reaching, global criminal organization. Most commonly in fanfiction, it's an evil modern version of the order of guardians, that is out to collect all the miraculous for their evil purpose (which would work since the shown has shown there to be multiple miracle boxes).
Well, Mayura could've worked as the next big bad, as by her intial design and with how Zag built her up, she looked like someone who was going to be calculating and cold. I actually thought her mask was going to be a full facial mask meaning you wouldn't see her lips move when she talks, adding to the unnerving feeling her design could've promoted.
Tumblr media
To be different from HM, I like the idea of her possibly being someone who did successfully make a wish, only how she wants to undo it. I'd vote immortality myself; peacocks are symbols of immortality, its a common wish people would make, her longevity sets her up to be VERY experienced, and possible tropes for immortality is a loss of compassion and loss of fear of consequences; she could've easily been someone who has nothing to loose and doesn't fear what her actions will cause. And by design, she is visually set up to be a good counter to Ladybug, so something interesting could've been done there.
There is the thought of doing the Order, but personally I'd do them as an antagonistic force, who's way of doing things clashes with how the heroes do things. Like say, it could be they disagree with Marinette being friendlier to kwamis, and the Guardians can have an understandable stance that kwamis can't be fully trusted as they don't have the same moral views as humans or they make risky choices. Kwamis possibly have a blind faith in humanity or are inclined to always give them a chance when they shouldn't. This could play off that Nooroo came to Gabriel because he picked up on that emotional distress and wanted to help him, now Gabriel is misusing his power. And kwamis don't like Guardians because they restrict their freedom and their choices, and they'll pick humans who aren't a real good fit for their power. I'd say there could be one villainous Guardian, but I'd be more interested in this clash of how miraculous should be handled, kwamis vs Guardians, and the struggle to come to a compromise or reworking an old system.
Another idea is taking statue Mei Shi.
Tumblr media
I like the idea of taking this, having it be created by the Guardians as a precaution against kwamis and miraculous. A fail safe. If Guardians ever went against kwamis or a very dangerous misuser, Mei Shi was made to be the perfect counter to all miraculous. So what if this creation decided that miraculous aren't worth it to have in the world anymore? And he's design to perfectly counter every single one of them; that'd be a tough opponent to face and be intriguing to see what they'd do.
And of course, there are non miraculous options. I would expand upon them facing against magic.
How about witches who want the Cat because black cats go with witches and black magic?
How about doing something with the Arthurian legend? Maybe a corrupted Excalibur that D'Argencourt is using and he wants to become mayor and literally take Paris to the dark ages.
Could also do something with the fae, who in mythology aren't so benevolent to humans as the modern view would have you think, maybe of them tricking humans for their own amusement or spite, helping only when it suits them, or spiriting them away because they can. It could also be interesting to have a chance to have kwamis work off another magical race.
Could work off vampires and creating a hive mind.
And working with French mythology, could've done something with the original gargoyle: Gargouille.
Tumblr media
They were a dragon that terrorized the countryside of Paris and killed by a Saint and turned into the first gargoyle. What if someone revived them and they're in Paris, commanding an army of gargoyles at night.
And of course, yeah, could do something with a gang and them wanting miraculous, but that just doesn't interest me as much. I'm more interested in seeing magic against magic.
Either way, either miraculous related or not, ML had a lot of options to explore. it's a shame these creators are lazy and uninspired.

I got to finish playing through Fontaine today! Here are my thoughts cause a while ago ya'll loved hearing me speak on things. (Spoilers under the cut obviously)
~ Lyney and Lynette 🥺 I didn't expect to love them as much as I do 😭😭 (Freminet too though I liked him as soon as I saw him) though I do find it annoying how much slack the fandom has allowed those two to get seeing as they both lied to the Traveler and put them on the spot during an important trial. Traveler thought of them as good friends and decided to support the two of them out of the kindness of their hearts because Lyney helped them out previously only to find out they'd hidden a possible trail breaking secret if Furina hadn't mentioned it they probably still wouldn't have said anything the only reason they did was because they got cornered. If we're being real Traveler could've just walked away right after that confession but they not only stayed but made sure that Lyney and Lynette would not get charged for something they had nothing to do with. Traveler doesn't have to be friends with literally any of the people they encounter and that includes Lyney and Lynette. Just cause ya'll love them doesn't mean Traveler has to as well a sad backstory doesn't make up for betrayal and in regards to people who keep bringing up Traveler being buddy buddy with Childe. Childe has A, been in the story way longer, B, Traveler knows who Childe is and despite how close ya'll think they are Traveler is wary of him too. A couple updates ago he was making sure to warn Yomiya not to put all her trust in Childe let's stop acting like Traveler loves Childe and thinks he can do no wrong in comparison to Lyney and Lynette. Traveler just knows what Childe is capable of in comparison to Lyney and Lynette who they've known for what like two days.
~ Never has an NPC's death shaken me that hard before. In any game! I literally went 😦 when that cutscene played.
~ It was so amazing getting to find evidence and pick apart details of this case then have Neuvillette explain the whole situation out in full to the audience again. I especially enjoyed the drawings of each scene from different characters perspectives.
~ Furina is my girlfailure wife and she has been placed under Venti for second favorite archon. 💕💕 She's so bratty, cute and dramatic I wanna breed her 😩
~ I was not expecting to like Neuvillette and Navia as much as I do now! Especially Navia who I adore whole heartedly now that's a girlboss.
~ Every time she started crying I wanted to hold her.
Honestly this region was perfect for me. I love mysteries and I rarely ever found myself uninterested or bored with the story like I have with every other nation. I love Navia's character, her relationship with Traveler treating them like her partner and relying on them the way she did while also keeping them safe was so so cute and sweet and if I could draw I'd draw the Traveler I picked (Aether) with Navia as partners in detective work (Sorry Heizou you've been replaced..) I can't get enough of Furina and I can't wait for her first story quest, the leaks of her playstyle and more from her. I wanna see what kinds of things she says to her people outside of the courtroom/opera house. I wanna see her more vulnerable side shine out a bit more often. I wanna hear every voiceline she has more than once. I'm normal about her.. (I spent all night thinking about how gorgeous she is..) I want her. I hope Lynette gets a hangout soon she's so cute but I do think she needs more personality outside of her brothers.
Fontaine is also so so beautiful 😍 the underwater mechanic is surprisingly not as annoying as I thought it would be to navigate though I do find it a little annoying that we can't fight using our characters skills. I get why I just don't like it. I wish we'd spent more time in the underground because it's amazing and the way it all looks is so impressive also wish we could buy food and things from the vendors down there.
I beg of Hoyo to give the Fontaine characters even half as much screen time as the Sumeru gang cause I have to say I am far more interested in all the Fontaine characters with only one patch of them then I ever have been with the Sumeru mfers.

Since you like The Gangreen Gang and Princess Morbucks, What do you think of the other PPG villains (Mojo Jojo, Fuzzy Lumpkins, HIM, the Amoeba Boys, Sedusa, the Rowdyruff Boys) and what are your favorite episodes starring them?
Mojo Jojo: A good campy villain that I've come to appreciate more over time, and a bit of a tragic one as well when you think about it. His dialogue is super hard to write though; I'd always try to watch a scene or two of him from the show beforehand to get the rhythm of his speaking style right but I still don't think I've ever been able to capture his voice fully. My favorite episodes with him are probably Meet the Beat-Alls, Birthday Bash, and Mo Job.
HIM: Outside of the Gangreen Gang and Princess he's probably my favorite villain, though for different reasons. With the other two, I see them as more morally grey; people who have their own trauma and issues and have been led to crime because of it, but under the right circumstances could become better. With HIM, he's just unnerving as hell and evil for the sake of being evil. He's the only one who genuinely scared me as a kid, and I think he's also the only villain that truly has no limits or capacity to love. My favorite HIM episode would probably be Speed Demon, with Octi Evil as a second. Speed Demon especially has given me a lot of ideas and inspiration.
Fuzzy Lumpkins: Uh... his design is kind of cool, I guess? I kind of forget about him most of the time to be honest. His main goal in life, to live unbothered and not have people touch his stuff is valid tho. My favorite episode with him would probably be Meet the Beat-Alls.
The Amoeba Boys: They're good joke villains and lovably pathetic. I remember seeing a post going around a month or so ago that was talking about how if they were a supervillain, they'd be one of the Amoeba Boys and same tbh. My favorite episode would probably be Geshundfight.
Sedusa: A character that could've been utilized more than she was, and is probably the most competent villain outside of HIM, and maybe Mojo. I know her personality mostly revolved around, well, seduction since it's literally part of her name, but it would've been cool to see her be manipulative and crafty outside of just being sexy. Maybe she takes an interest in her victim's hobbies, tells them that the thing they've always been insecure about is actually super charming, remembers little things that she knows would mean the world to them, etc. I have a lot of headcanons about her character that I'm excited to explore in the future.
My favorite episode would be Aspirations mostly because that's one of my favorite episodes in general, but outside of that I'd say it's Something's a Ms. It really shows off how devious she can be and how she's a true master of disguise. It's hard to picture many other villains who could've pulled off what she did.
The Rowdyruff Boys: The PPG fandom might send torches and pitchforks my way for this one, but I think they're overrated.
I get why they're popular; they're the Powerpuff Girl's evil counterparts, and received several ship tease moments with them in the show. Stuff like that is always going to be popular with fans. But man, as someone who likes to read fanfic I'm kind of tired of 90% of the ones out there revolving around shipping them with the girls and everyone else being background characters. People are free to write what they want and I don't even have a problem with the ships themselves, I just wish there was a bit more variety of content to choose from.
All that being said, my favorite episode is probably Custody Battle, just because it's fun to see Mojo and HIM bicker like an old married couple.

15 + 20 for atlas :3c
THANK U KIMMMMM FOR MY LIFE
15. What places hold significant meaning or memories for your OC? Do they have a positive or negative association with those places?
in a way, atlas considers all of etheirys sentimental and precious! it was the home of her original creator and best friend, and even though she's gone and the world is so different, atlas knows venat loved it then and would love it now. she was a force of change in a world that wanted to stagnate, movement where all else paused.
upon finding out they can traverse the reflections of the source though, and finding out an intact ruin of an ancient academy still exists, atlas does hold a special place in their heart for it. it's the only true fossil of what was, what they left so suddenly on their mission to save meteion. they didn't even think much of the school originally, but now that it's all that's left as it was 12k years ago, it's unfathomably precious to them.
they also, in a weird sort of way, feel sentimental about ultima thule. it was at the edge of the universe, more than lifetimes from etheirys, yet they spent 12k years there, and all 12k were in the effort of saving a friend they hadn't had for more than 48 hours previously. the place was lonely, hopeless and frankly it's the stuff of atlas's nightmares.
but it was also the destination of their last instruction from venat; the stage where her last wish to atlas would play out. and, for better or worse, it was their and meteion's home, and it was where meteion finally came back to them. they are permanently, intrinsically tied to ultima thule, and it'd be hard for them to feel only negatively or only positively for such a complicated place.
20. Has your OC ever done something terrible and lied about it? Did they run away or blame someone else for it? How long did they maintain the lie and did the truth ever come out?
post-ultima thule, i think they initially didn't LIKE minfilia very much? and minfilia didn't really like them either. but atlas sort of blamed her for venat's demise, even though minfilia was such a teeny, inconsequential part of it—like, whether or not minfilia had asked to return to life, venat was going to be no more that day. what she gave to save minfilia wouldn't have been enough to save herself.
but atlas struggles with that for a while, looking for a cause, a reason; it's easier to face loss when you believe there was anything you could have done differently, that there WAS a chance, that you DID have a say in the matter. but the reality is atlas didn't. venat was going to die that day no matter what they could've or couldn't've done. minfilia asking for life had no impact on that outcome whatsoever.
atlas, more than anything, lied to themself about it. that they didn't hate minfilia, not for that reason anyway, that they just didn't like her, even though they couldn't name one single other thing about her that made them angry. over the six months between 6.0 and 6.1, i think atlas is able to move through more of their grief and accept minfilia as herself, not as some kind of catalyst through which venat died. they're able to bond over their shared mourning. they both would've done anything to save venat, and they both have to accept that there was never anything they could've done.
they did admit they used to hate minfilia, and minfilia isn't surprised they felt that way. likewise, minfilia didn't like THEM much—venat often mourned their loss, even though she had ordered it, and minfilia found herself wondering, "how could you never come back?" even though she knew the answer was that meteion's song of oblivion would destroy everything, even though minfilia once had to make the very same choice herself, and had chosen the same as atlas. minfilia and atlas each felt as if the other had wronged venat, but really just saw a lot of themselves IN each other in how they'd "failed" venat, even though they'd done everything she asked, even though in her eyes they had beyond succeeded. minfilia and atlas never run away from each other, but they do have a wall between them that takes a long time to break down before they can admit to the truth of it all.
atlas isn't designed nor inclined to act outwardly cruel—as a creation of venat, they were designed to be a guiding star for the lost, in whatever way that person was lost (physically, mentally, etc). but on the topic of lying, they will lie if the truth brings little to no purpose or solace to someone else, and they will do so with ease. it's their purpose to help others find their way, not hinder them, and so long as the truth doesn't hold a crucial piece of the puzzle, they'll lie about it for the sake of the objective: helping that person find their way.
they don't always FEEL good about it though. even as a creation, a "concept" that was not born and does not necessarily hold a personality or "soul" the way a man does, they recognize that there is something to mourn in depriving another of the truth. that even if without the truth they are happier, even able to find hope they otherwise couldn't have, atlas recognizes that the sadness or anger remains, sitting between them and the recipient, never to be grasped, yet always touching both of them.
i think the one and only lie atlas has ever told, and it was to themself, that they'd never be able to face is that, every so often in ultima thule, they'd wished they had the power to kill meteion. that they hated her. that they wanted to go home. that meteion's belief that all hope dies, that all life is meaningless and death is the only answer, was further proven in atlas's weakest moments, when they almost wanted to give up, when the fight didn't feel worth it anymore.
they can't admit it because meteion believes atlas was one of the only people that never stopped believing in her, that never gave up hope for her. the fact atlas did eats at them, but to admit it—to confess that meteion was, at least sometimes, right about them—would be to obstruct her way. the truth would hinder meteion, possibly irreversibly, and so not only can atlas not tell her because they are not designed to obstruct someone's hope, they wouldn't even if they could. they don't think they could live with it being more than a ghost in their head, especially if anything happened to meteion as a result of it.

fav buffy characters and why… and least fav characters
OHHHHH... i think you're saying btvs only, so that's what i'm gonna do. favourite btvs characters are spike, buffy, faith, and dru. not in that exact order.... buffy is just my GIRL she is everything of course she's the greatest main character ever. spike is ummmm. um. if anyone's followed me a while and seen when i used to spike post a lot then they'll get it. he's so so special to me. i wouldn't be transgender if it wasn't for him. FAITH...... augh. tragic character of all time. love interest of all time. she's buffy's most interesting shadow self imo. dru is self explanatory, she's my ripe wicked plum, she's my black goddess etc. spike gets it. she's deeper than it seems, and i'm always torn between being sad that more isn't done with her, and happy that more wasn't done with her so she wasn't killed off.
this is getting kind of long so i'm putting the rest under a read more
least favourites..... riley, the first, and kendra (HEAR ME OUT PLEASE). riley is an obvious one. he's the love interest from a shitty plot point that stays around for far too long. ats season one always ends up being an escape from btvs season four at times because when episodes are focused on him and his ilk, it's ROUGH. that whole thing could've been done so much better. he's meant to be buffy's nice guy to contrast all the craziness but he doesn't appreciate her, and he ends up basically just being a set up for the beginning of her and spike. he barely has a personality other than being military boy, and buffy's boyfriend. i wish they would've done something different with him, while not having him stick around well past his welcome. the first..... it's meant to be this crazy, incredibly intimidating big bad like we've never seen before. it isn't. they end up bulking out season seven with other big bads, because this one just doesn't cut it. if it's the worst thing they've ever faced, why does it have SO many flaws? why does it do so little throughout this season? guys, WHY does it suck so bad? and. okay, okay, i'm gonna move onto kendra. i love the way that fans have taken her and really developed her, but in the actual show, she is a terribly underdeveloped character. she gets overshadowed completely by faith coming after her, and she's barely there for any time at all. plus, i get the feeling viewers aren't meant to like her. she tries to kill angel! and she's this by-the-book slayer who studies non stop, loves to learn, and trusts the council.... but the only clothing she has is that little shirt? it's a tiny thing to be annoyed at, but i do wish that costume choice had reflected the character even slightly. she should be wearing things that are great for fighting! maybe a leather jacket! i also feel bad for her actress for being told to do a jamaican accent when she just couldn't do a jamaican accent. her acting is completely overshadowed by it. why does kendra have to be jamaican? it would've been cool, IF they'd gotten an actress who could do a jamaican accent. as one of the only 'main characters' who is black, she gets completely fucked over. you can pretty much see that's a trend with all the others too. i won't talk too much about btvs racism but.... oh boy, it's there! it's really fucking there!

Chapter 10! ^^
♦️𝚃𝚑𝚎 𝚃𝚛𝚞𝚝𝚑♠️
———
They'd be lying if they said they weren't terrified. The sisters hasn't exactly thought through talking to the Devil while she's in a bad mood. But whether any of them wanted to go through with it, the Devil needed to hear it. Henchwoman had too much respect and fear/admiration to tell the Boss herself, so the girls must take care of it themselves.
The Devil was notorious for throwing tantrums over nothing. Even when they were younger and had first met the Queen of Demons, she had a horrid temper. Burning down an entire forest, letting her shape-shifting powers get out of hand, kidnapping Mugma'am when Cuphead refused to give her back her trident- The list went on. Who knows what she had done in Hell when the sisters weren't around.
Needless to say, they weren't looking too forward to giving the stubborn and seething toddler of a Devil a lecture. They took their time walking down the hallway, thinking of exactly what to say. They had to choose their words very carefully, as to not irritate the demon even more. Finally getting to the office door, it was indeed shut- and probably locked. They took their chance however, Mugma'am knocking on the door.
"Go away, Henchwoman."
The bite her words alone could've sent the sisters running, but this time was different. Though shaken up, they decided to take their chance and try again anyway.
"Uhm... Miss Devil?" Mugma'am asked.
"Go away."
"C'mon Devil, open up! Why're acting like a bitch?" Cuphead tugged on the doorknob.
"I said go away!"
The sisters stopped, looking at each other. Though they didn't say anything, they collectively agreed that it sounded like the Devil was speaking through tears. Whether or not she had been crying or they had just made her cry was a mystery, but it still changed the whole situation for them. Hesitantly, Mugma'am pressed her ear against the door, Cuphead doing the same. Though muffled, they both heard distinct sounds of weeping.
"Miss Devil..." Mugma'am spoke gently. "Are you ok?"
The Devil didn't answer, and only seemed to cry harder. Trying not to be loud, there were sounds of small hiccups between tears. It was so unnerving to hear a creature like the Devil crying. The last time they had seen her break down crying was because they had kicked her ass. Now? A broken heart.
They thought about leaving, but also felt that it was wrong to leave the Devil in this state. Even if the Devil was prone to throwing tantrums and being quite the crybaby for being an all powerful entity- Leaving her alone still didn't feel like the right thing to do. Though the Devil obviously wasn't letting anyone in- Both physically in the room and into her emotions. Still, the sisters wished they could help somehow.
They heard footsteps coming down the hall, turning around, they saw Queen Dice with a small handful of contracts. Humming along quietly, she went towards the Devil's office. Though she seemed surprised that it wouldn't open when she tried to turn the handle. Without a word, her eyebrows creased as she looked to the girls.
"Don't look at us," Cuphead threw her hands up in defense. "Devil's the one not letting anyone in."
"She's upset about something." Mugma'am said when Dice raised an eyebrow.
"When is she not?" Dice muttered, knocking on the door.
"I told you little brats to go away!"
"Boss, it's me. Open up."
"Dice...?" The Devil croaked out between tears. "You... You go away too!"
"I ain't leavin, Boss. Unlock the door. Now." Queen Dice snapped.
"I... I don't want you seeing me like this..."
"Devil, Honey, come on. Unlock the door."
There was a pause, but no sign of anything behind the door.
"Please?" Dice used a sweeter tone.
A few moments later, the door unlocked. Queen Dice slipped inside, the door locking soon after. Cuphead crossed her arms and grumbled, wanting to know why the hell the Devil let Dice in but not them. Mugma'am did manage to get her to get back to the elevator, accepting things as they are. Even if she was still pouting, Cuphead didn't say anything about the situation. Mugma'am however, was thinking of something completely different.
"Did you hear Dice said to the Devil?"
"Yeah, and she didn't even get yelled at like we did!"
"That, and she called her 'Honey'." Mugma'am smirked, getting Cuphead to turn her head.

Neither of them knew how long it had been since Dice had went to the Devil's office. They weren't even sure how long she had stayed until she went back to work. They themselves eventually decided to go back to playing with the cards again.
"Y'know, I wonder how Queen Dice makes her cards sentient. It'd be cool to have a lil pack of sidekicks that fit in your pocket. If my skirt had pockets." Mugma'am thought aloud.
"Yeah, little butlers!"
"They're not butlers, Cuphead."
"Either way, it'd be cool."
The elevator door opened, the Devil opening the door. Obviously surprised to see them, the demon tensed up as she walked out. Smiling awkwardly, the action really showed off her jagged teeth. When the sisters continued to stare, she quickly began walking towards her bedroom.
"Uh, hey Devil... Whacha doing?" Cuphead asked, raising an eyebrow.
"I'm- Im just heading off to my room. I've gotta fix my makeup- Y'know from crying and stuff. Wouldn't want to look awful in front of my patrons. That'd be awkward. Not that I'm awkward. I just like looking my best is all. So if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go. Bye!"
The Devil's high heeled footsteps echoed down the hallway, the sisters looking at each other.
The Devil bring embarrassed for no reason? Rather odd. Maybe she was awkward after the girls had nearly walked in on her crying. But that didn't seem right. Sure the Devil had cried most of her daily makeup off- But she had always turned to being angry with little reason when embarrassed. But she didn't even acknowledge that the girls had playing cards all over the floor.
"I wonder what Dice said to her." Cuphead furrowed her eyebrows.
"I dunno, but at least she's not angry with us." Mugma'am shrugged. "And alsoooo..." She placed her cards on the ground, face up. "I win."
"Again?!" Cuphead threw her cards up. "This game is rigged, how do you keep on winning?!"
"It's skill."
"You're cheating."
"Skill."
"Cheating!"
"Skill!"
"Cheating!"
"SKILLS!"
"CHEATING!"
Between their quarrels, the sisters barely heard the elevator come down from the Casino and Queen Dice walking out.
"Girls, girls! What are you two yelling about?" Dice hollered over them.
"Mugma'am is cheating again!"
"No I'm not."
Mugma'am pushed Cuphead, Cuphead pushing back. Actually knocking Mugma'am over, Mugs kicked her sister back.
"Hey, hey, hey! Knock that off! I didn't go on break just to have to deal with you two fightin'!"
""She Started it!"" The sisters both said, pointing at each other.
"I don't care who started it, I'll end it!" Queen Dice raised her voice, the sisters still angry but not continuing to fight. "Now you two get along. I don't need to deal with you two on top of the day I've had today."
Dice gripped the bridge of her nose, as she shook her head. Letting out a long sigh, she continued on her way, heading towards Hell's kitchen. The sisters glared at one another, not bickering but still upset.
It wasn't long before the Devil's footsteps began walking down the hall again and she turned in the same direction Dice went. Their anger softening, they glanced at each other.
Cuphead placed a finger to her lips as she stood up, Mugma'am nodding and following in suit. They crept down the hallway as quiet as they could, their footsteps just barely bouncing off the towering halls in Hell. Getting up the banquet hall, the whole room seemed to be completely quiet. Aside from the quiet murmers coming from the kitchen. Definitely Queen Dice and the Devil's voices, the girls couldn't make out exactly what they were saying.
Quietly, they both pressed their ears against the door, listening to what the women on the other side of the door were saying;
"Trust me Boss, you would've done the same for me. There's no need to thank me." Queen Dice said.
"Of course I should thank you. Anyone else would've made fun of me." The Devil replied.
"Devil, dear, please- "
"Don't try to butter me up, you know that I'm right."
"Devie... No one would've made fun of you for that..."
There was a pause, neither of them saying anything. The sisters half suspected that they had heard them.
"My darling Dice... I love- "
Mugma'am leaned in excitedly, the door was unknowingly not closed all the way. Consequently, the door fell open, both of the sisters toppled inside. Cuphead falling on top of her sister, they both looked at Dice and Devil across the room from them. Though they both looked confused, and quite possibly angry, they were holding hands while their eyes were glued to the sisters.
Smiling sheeply, the sisters chuckled to lighten the mood.
"Hey... Devil and... And Dice... Whatcha doin?" Cuphead asked.
"Were- Were you two spying on us?!" Queen Dice erupted, her cheeks turning a bright pink.
"N- No!" Mugma'am sat up, Cuphead rolling off of her with a thump. "We were just- "
"You little minks! You were spying on us!" The Devil hollered, letting go of Dice's hand while the woman crossed her arms.
"Don't you go name calling! You two said you aren't an item, yet act like the sweetest couple I've ever seen." Cuphead snapped. "We were just seeing why you two were lying about it."
"W- What?" Queen Dice tensed up.
"I think what Cuphead is trying to say is; Why're you guys trying to keep your relationship a secret?" Mugma'am asked.
"And doing a terrible job at it."
"Cuphead!"
The Devil growled loudly, the sound making the sisters jump. Queen Dice placed a hand on her shoulder however. Glancing at the woman, the Devil furrowed her eyebrows. Queen Dice sighed and nodded. The Devil turned back to the girls, taking in a shaky breath.
"Girls... We... Uhm... We..."
Queen Dice let go of the demon's shoulder and sneaked her hand in the Devil's. Intertwining their fingers, Dice rubbed the beck of her hand, seemingly calming the demon down.
"Yes... We... We are secretly dating..."

I read your post about Marianne's characterization and I have to agree, which is saying something since Marianne is one of my top two favorite characters in 3H (the other is Ferdinand). Her writing in the academy phase wasn't too horrible IMO, but it could've been better. At least in the war phase, she does improve. If she had better characterization in the academy phase, she probably would've been an overall better character, maybe even a popular one, but alas. The best we can hope (story-wise anyway) is that during the time skip (if she survives), she realizes that her behavior towards others is wack and tries to do something about it so that by the time the war phase hits, she's grown as a person and doesn't really behave that way anymore.
I dunno, I could just be biased as she's a favorite of mine, but I like to fill in gaps when the writers don't do as well with a character as they should have.
Yeah, I don't think she's a bad character overall and in the second half of the game she was perfectly fine as a character. It's the first half that really hurts her for me. There's a point where it's an understandable character flaw, and then there's a point where it's over the top in almost every interaction and becomes the focal point of her entire character. Unfortunately that focal point is a very negative trait and it makes her situation a lot less sympathetic to me.
Raphael and Bernadetta had similar issues, and it's a shame because the writers can clearly write better than that. Yuri and Hapi, for instance, have more to them than pretty boy assassin and local underground girl who had experiments done to her. Their supports have different topics that they cover to grow them as a character and it's not the same thing in every conversation. Dimitri and Claude were examples of the writing at its peak, so I know they can do better than what we got for a handful of characters.
Marianne gets the worst end of the stick with Bernadetta for being written with the central aspects of their characterizations being all negative. Felix was handled better, but he had similar problems in the first half of the game where half the stuff he said was an eye roll and made me want to smack him. I love Felix and I'm glad they fixed the bullshit around him in Hopes because most of the fandom takes every single thing he's ever said literally ever at complete face value with not a single thought about it.
You should fill in the gaps! It's fun to think about those missing points in canon and reason out why the characters changed as much as they did and what might've happened in that time. For all we know, Marianne could've had a life changing experience with someone or more than one person calling her behavior her, explaining how she's being hurtful to others and not just "protecting" them from her "curse". Maybe someone made her realize all she was doing was trying to make herself feel better at the expense of other people's feelings and it made her change how she interacted with people.
I also think it's a shame that they tried to tackle depression with her and messed up by making her act like that. I wish they'd made her try to interact with people and be more sunny and more willing to be around people, because I feel like depression gets stereotyped as "sad person who wants to be constantly away from the world and looks like they haven't slept in weeks". If they don't also have insomnia, they wouldn't look that ragged, and not every depressed person just doesn't want to interact. Many such people will reach out possibly even more than normal because they want the human interaction.
Marianne is a popular character, but I also definitely don't see the same outpouring of love that many other characters get. I'm not sure if it's because of what we've mentioned, but the fan content in general for her feels less than how she popular she seems to be?

A giant rant/critique about redeemable Villain LIs in otomes/dating VNs
Before I get into the rant, let me say a few disclaimers/notes. Tropes are tools. Just because a dating game or VN has a redeemable villain LI doesn't automatically mean it makes it bad. It does not and I will argue against that if you think that's the case (likewise if you think a game having a redeemable Villain LI automatically makes it good). There have been cases of certain tropes that work well in a certain story because of the execution and how it goes, including this one. Tropes very much rely on how you use them which impacts the story. This is just discussing times when it has been used badly and turns a VN that could've been great or memorable into something that's just okay.
With that out of the way, let's get onto the rant.
For those who don't know me, I play Genius Inc otome games. Their games aren't really consistent in quality, some are better or worse because they hire different writers for different stories. So for context, a lot of my criticism is aimed at them but can still apply to other VNs and otomes as well.
(Also, I know there are the female LI games from Genius Inc, I know they exist, never played them so idk if they follow this rule and it's only the men-likers that follow this.)
I was just reading Amon's side story from Lullaby of Demonia and it really just reminded me of why I have a love-hate relationship with Genius Inc and their games. They have a crippling amount of villain LIs that don't tend to be written well which can boil down to 2 main problems.
They make the MCs stupidly empathic for no reason.
Empathy can be a strength of one's character sometimes. A big example I can name is Tohru Honda from Fruits Basket and I find her to be actually good. But man, I find myself just shouting at the screen for the MC endangering themselves by trying to touch the villain LI's heart when their instincts should be to run or fight back. A lot of the poor examples of a villain LI romance have the MC just risk their own safety and ignore any sense of self-preservation for no reason other than the possibility of trying to redeem the villain LI and even more infuriating if the villain LI is a genocidal maniac and/or desperately wishes the MC to suffer or die.
I get that there's the ideal of "there's good in everyone" but sometimes, you need to draw the line or get me to care about why they care. Suppose you have this villain LI who has killed thousands of people and committed war crimes but has emotional trauma. In that case, I'm more likely to pity them but still hold them accountable for their actions because a sad story doesn't justify doing bad things. I don't support the MC trying to redeem them of all the horrible shit they did because as far as I'm concerned, they're a complete monster.
And a lot of the time with these monstrous types of villain LIs, the MC has no reason to care to redeem villain LIs, they just simply do because of their wildly empathetic heart and don't care what they have done to others or themselves which seems less empathetic and more childishly naive. If these VNs just gave the MC a reason to care for the villain LI strongly and want them to be a better person aside from them just being hot and let me see why they want to, I could still at least understand them. But they just don't. A lot of the time, these villain LIs are strangers and I just can't see why they'd get so worked up over them, especially since there tend to be other guys they can get but choose this one for no apparent reason.
Like imagine a scenario where there's a villain LI who has done horrible stuff and the MC wants them to be redeemed and be a good person. But the twist is they used to be friends or something more, hell maybe the MC even played a part in the reason why the villain LI is the way they are. The MC desperately wants them to be the person they used to know and wishes to share those moments of joy and fun again and keeps endangering themselves for that small hope they can touch their old friend's heart again and regain the person they loved.
Or perhaps the MC was in the exact same shoes as the villain LI and they used to be a villain as well. They laid waste to many villages and cities, killing dozens because of their own trauma/grief/backstory reasons. But there was someone who decided to lend out a hand to them and try to heal them and convince them that they could be a better person. And it succeeded. They let go of their villainy and atone for their mistakes, fixing up the villages they destroyed, providing support for the loved ones of those they killed, etc. Years later, they're now the hero of the story and are finally confronted with a villain who also has been burnt and is lashing against the world for it. And all they can see is themselves. So they try to use kind words and thoughtful gestures to help guide them onto the path they are now on and show them the light in an attempt to give them the chance they had, even as others discourage them and say they should just imprison or kill the villain.
Now I might not exactly agree with their actions in each scenario but I would understand them and that's all I need. "If your protagonist wants something no one else cares about, you gotta give us some emotional explanation as to why, otherwise, it just seems random." - There Will Be Fudd
2. The villain has a weak reason to be sympathetic.
Too many times, I've seen villains have such a weak reason for them to be considered redeemable or in other words, their actions far outweigh their reasons.
A prime example I can name is Sakuya from Soul of Yokai. While in the first season, it had always been implied he had a sad story behind him. However, a beauty about the implications and small pieces that told you he had a sympathetic backstory behind him without getting into the nitty gritty details was that the audience could fill in the blank. The audience could see he was a genocidal maniac who wishes all humans would die (for context, he's not a human), see small bits of pieces of "One day, Sakuya suddenly changed from being a loving person to a ruthless murderer," "This gift [an injured eye] was from a human, just like you," "You're not fooling anyone with that nice human act," and "You sound like her... before..." and immediately understand that a human girl met him (without anyone else knowing), he fell in love with her before she betrayed him and the act was so vile that he decided the rest of humanity should burn down alongside with her. That's all we needed to know and knowing exactly what happened would only just cheapen the entire thing because the audience could imagine for themselves what was so horrible that it completely changed Sakuya and he wouldn't dare speak about it because it was that horrific. Then we get to Season 2 just to discover that what happened was that the girl in question just cheated on him and suddenly what turned from a beautiful and alluring mystery to suddenly wondering why Sakuya simply just hated only the girl or just abandoned his love for humans without killing them. Sure, a lot of people cheat on their lovers but that's not an action that deserves death.
While this is a very specific case, my point is that because of Sakuya's actions of attempting genocide, simply not telling what happened to him was more effective than knowing he got cheated on because of the "Noodle Incident"-esque nature of Sakuya's backstory simply revealed that a horrific event happened to Sakuya which left him traumatised in which humans were the cause of the event which made him become a genocidal murderer. With actions as severe as his, you're expecting an equally severe incident that would justify or explain what he's doing. And in a case where your villain (LI) is committing literal war crimes, it's possible you can't even come up with a reason that explains what he's doing and you're better off just leaving hints at a sad story without fully knowing what that sad story is. Even if Sakuya's backstory ended up being something stronger, it wouldn't have worked as much because it's likely that whatever the writer made wasn't going to be as horrific as the audience imagined.
And to bring it to a more general level, a villain LI needs a reason that is equal to their villainy to convince you that they're redeemable. If your supposed redeemable villain has done evil but nothing horrific, then they can get a milder sympathetic story to equal to what they have done because it's equal although you can do something more extreme and it wouldn't bring down their redeemability. Have a more monstrous villain LI, you'll need a stronger reason for why they are the way they are or doing a Sakuya and keeping the backstory vague, depending on which angle works best for your story.
If your villain has an insufficient reason for being sympathetic, I find that worse than them just being evil for no reason because I can at least get behind that. Attempting to make them sympathetic just makes me roll my eyes that you're trying to make them feel for them rather than committing to them just being evil. And trying to make them sympathetic solely to date them just makes it feel forced and unnatural which is one of the types of writing you should never strive for.

guy who watched all of Sherlock for the first time in the year of our lord 2024 needs to rant episode by episode
they put Benedict Cabbagepatch Sherlock™️ on the netflix in my country so me and my roommate watched all of it. i've heard so much about it and it was one of those big things in internet history so i was def intrigued!! not to mention my biggest incentive to watch this show was to see Andrew Scott play Moriarty. i love that guy so much i will say maybe 90% of the reason i wanted to watch this was because of him.
general thoughts: my overall experience is that it's exciting for the first two seasons. you're still on board with all the little sweet twists and turns and it's fun to see Sherlock and Watson solve their crimes. side characters like Mrs Hudson and Molly are nice, Moriarty is a GREAT villain and most other episodic villains are kind of enshrouded in mystery which i really enjoyed! during season 3 i thought the show was slightly declined in quality but still fairly interesting and different enough to keep me entertained, and season 4 just takes an absolute nosedive into "oh this is bad. oh Gatiss & Moffat have lost the fucking plot." even season 4 has its moments but mostly it's bad!!
now i'll go through each episode one by one because no one can stop me and i love talking to myself on tumblr rest of the long post is under the cut
a study in pink:
a very strong start to this show. this genuinely got me excited and sucked me into this world. the case in itself is so weird and cool and it feels impossible until they explain it. they also leave the tiniest bit of mystery as the man doesn't reveal whether or not Sherlock was right in his choice and i LOVE that!! honestly wish the show did more of that. the Moriarty name drop at the end is so good.
they also build John and Sherlock's partnership very well in just one episode which i do think is an achievement! i also hadn't realised how silly this show is from my outside perception although now that i'm thinking about it maybe i should've known?? the first episode does set the tone very well
the blind banker:
the case in this one is slightly more boring to me....maybe it's also pretty rough having this episode right after what is perhaps considered the best episode of Sherlock? i do think the symbol system is genuinely interesting and having something like that to decipher here is what makes the case most interesting to me. as a viewer you're also still sort of in the process of getting to know all these characters and that's sweet!!
the great game:
now THIS IS CINEMA!!!!! i love everything about this case, i love that Moriarty uses other people's voices for his own benefit, i love the way he toys with Sherlock and sort of exploits his passion for solving weird crimes by literally forcing him to do that on a time limit or someone will die, i love the pressure in the countdown from 10 to 1 when Sherlock tries to figure out how the painting is a fake, i LOVE the start of the pool scene where John walks out and you realise oh fuck now JOHN is speaking as Moriarty and then the man, the myth, the legend himself walks out of the shadows and it's the same guy who appeared for like a minute in the same episode as gay Jim. this episode is imo a perfect balance between the drama / crime-solving and the sweet occasional humour of the show. i always prefer the drama and the tension (plus the spooks) over the comedy as the jokes kind of tend to repeat themselves a little especially as the show goes on.
this episode puts an actually clever little twist on the structure of the last two episodes, where there is one crime to be solved and they spend the entire episode solving it along with minor subplots that serve no purpose to the solving of the crime itself. that's why i almost wish they'd done this later?? the structure and humour etc weren't all too familiar or felt old and used yet, which is why i feel like season 1 could've easily been three episodes all in similar structure. that's not to say anything bad about the episode in itself!! it's maybe my favourite one, but in the entire structure of the four seasons something like this might've saved the later seasons.
can't move on without diving slightly deeper into Moriarty's first appearance: Andrew Scott is actually phenomenal?? he is silly and just kind of fucks around for fun whilst actually being a weird and dangerous criminal. when he screams "that's what people DO!!!!!" bro. bro. there's something about the way that man plays any character but specifically Moriarty in this case where you're just mesmerised by him and whatever he does and the choices he makes. even when we don't actually see him and he speaks through other people Moriarty generally as a character has such a commanding air about him. only gripe here is that the cliffhanger is a cheap trick but i get it we have to keep the tension up ig
a scandal in Belgravia:
the tension in the cliffhanger is cut by a joke and Moriarty essentially disappears for the rest of the episode. was not the biggest fan of this choice but alas!! they made worse since then!!
i don't know how i feel about Irene Adler's portrayal here. i know jackshit about the original Sherlock stories but from what i have read it feels silly to sort of downplay her character to a dominatrix who's in love with Sherlock. and the goddamn "i am sherlocked" being the answer to the problem.............just felt like a giant joke to me lmaooooooo
this episode does feel messy in general but has a lot of fun moments!! it can also be very confusing with all the sort of branching paths they go on here, not to mention in the same episode they imply TWICE that Irene is dead and both times she doesn't actually die? i think some of the problems that start to arise later have their roots here. this episode is not the worst case of it but i just remember feeling confused a lot here. maybe i was just tired. but there are a lot of weird ups and downs that really broke the tension for me and that was perhaps my biggest issue with this one. the case in itself is just kind of weird but honestly this episode is def entertaining and considering how far they fall later this one's pretty solid. i feel like it's more my personal preference that's keeping me from liking this as much as opposed to like. genuine gripes and mistakes they make
the hounds of Baskerville:
i looooved this one's weird and spooky vibes!! i really liked the sequence where Sherlock uses Mycroft's keycard to open all the doors. all the lab shit is cool as hell and this is also truly the first episode where we see Sherlock kind of lose his shit and doubt his abilities which brings an interesting drama that doesn't feel forced or out of character. unethical science experiments are also always an interesting subject to explore in fiction
it also ends on one of the only cliffhanger on this show i actually liked. they leave enough questions for the viewer, you wonder why Moriarty was locked up but also why Mycroft let him go and then they allude to this certain obsession Moriarty has with Sherlock by showing what he carved on the walls. it works so well in getting the viewer excited but not frustrated that they cut at an important moment.
the Reichenbach fall:
my god the DRAMA of it all. what an intense episode altogether! the Moriarty hacking sequence is such a cool way to start an episode and although it's a little silly at times the stakes are high!! i love Moriarty's presence this entire episode and how he haunts Sherlock, while it makes me sad he dies here i also love how his death opens up the opportunity for him taunting Sherlock from beyond the grave later in the series. love that type of shit
now what brings this episode's quality down a little for me is honestly just the dramatic ass ending. idk if Gatiss & Moffat genuinely thought we would believe Sherlock is actually dead, i think it showed their arrogance and looseness with the entire show by this point when apparently they thought they outdid Conan Doyle in how they did the fall and how him surviving makes sense?? i think publicly stating you surpassed an original work in your adaptation is just kinda......disrespectful to me! while this is a great episode, i also can't help but think about its effect on the rest of the series. it feels like they just wanted to amp up on the shock value and pulling the rug out from under the viewer's feet. having Sherlock survive such a long fall is such an inconceivable thing, so after this when they try to do twists nothing really holds the same weight anymore.
the empty hearse:
now the end of season 2 brings about this series' first problem: you don't just come back from faking your fucking death. that is a BIG deal. it feels like they almost immediately cut right back into business and the only thing that needs redeveloping is Sherlock & Watson's dynamic. also, in a show like this with very limited episodes, having to spend an entire episode that's dedicated to Sherlock & Watson getting back on their bullshit is a lot. that's what makes this feel just a bit like a filler episode. i feel like if i were watching these episodes as they came out, having to wait two years to find out what happened and getting this??? goddamn right i'd be disappointed. like was there really no way they could maybe tell John he was alive. was there really no other option than let him grieve for TWO fucking YEARS!!!!!! seems illogical to me idk
the sign of three:
when we see Mary at the start of season three i think it's fair to say a lot of us probably thought there's no way she's sticking around. they've fallen too far down the queerbaiting pit now they need John to be single by the end of this show. but then the second episode is entirely dedicated to this wedding?? Mary starts to feel like an important character?? i was confused and, honestly, was lulled into the false sense of security that oh there's no way they'd kill Mary off. more on that later lmao
this episode feels like a bit of an offshoot to me. it's so heavily cloaked in the humour elements and not so much on the crime solving and the DRAMA and the PRESSURE. because of this it also feels like they just come up with the case out of nowhere.
i will say though, while my thoughts on season three are mostly negative, i think they keep the general core of the show secure, all the characters feel like themselves and the twisting and turning is not TOO tiring yet. i think season three is just slightly worse than 1 and 2, but to me the cases being slightly more boring is the problem there and that's maybe a personal preference. the structure and all is the same and that's good!! it's a good structure
his last vow:
as a whole this just personally doesn't hit, the villain did not bring about anything new to me?? i mostly think the villain is kind of boring and the Mary twist feels like it's done for shock value only and to add some drama to her and John's marriage. however there are a lot of bits and parts here i do like!! the weird ass death dream sequence is absolutely cool as hell. Molly helping on medical shit, Moriarty in the back of his mind taunting the shit out of him, Sherlock running those long flights of stairs...it is absolutely very cool and sick. it's just different enough to bring a weird vibe into the episode the viewer hasn't seen before but doesn't feel out of character or anything. if anything it's a peek into that so-called mind palace and that is cool. i also love the awkward sibling smoke break that Mycroft and Sherlock have on christmas. i haven't really brought up Mycroft because i hate his bitch ass but he does have his moments
as the Andrew Scott guy, i was of course incredibly pleased to see him back in the final twist!! i felt that if Sherlock somehow survived that dumbass fall via planning, then Moriarty isn't dead either. of course he eventually does turn out to be dead (rip!!!!) and if we're trying to look at this objectively it is kind of a cheap and stupid twist. but by this point i should honestly just accept that this is just a bit trash (affectionate).....especially considering they set up Sherlock having to go undercover and leave John only to reverse that shit like three minutes later. absolutely pointless
the abominable bride:
i seem to go against public opinion on this episode (at least according to the letterboxd reviews) where i actually enjoyed this and liked a lot of the elements here??? this episode is most definitely weird and a little bit all over the place but i think this manages that very well. it being a "special episode" and not part of any season also definitely helps its case for me. maybe i just like dream sequences and almost this entire episode takes place in one lol
the episode is almost horror at points?? i think there are similar elements in baskerville and the series finale for example but this one feels most like it's trying to spook you. also. what if i said. i think this is Moriarty's best appearance in the series..........he's weird and spooky and has a hole in the back of his head and he also beats the shit out of Sherlock by those waterfalls which is sick
some people found the plotline confusing especially with how they switch between the sort of unreality of what happens in Sherlock's head and what's happening in the real world but i think it was interesting seeing Sherlock so obsessed with this weird fictional case in his head. if you want to find some layers in it i think it kinda mirrors how Eurus is the kid in the plane that's crashing. i suppose my personal solution to season 4 now is they should've leaned more into this & whatever they do in the final problem because if you're gonna fuck up everyone's characterization at least go weird and psychological with it
the six thatchers:
oh i hated everything about this. i wanted to give season 4 such a fighting chance even though i heard that its ratings were significantly lower than the seasons before it, especially since the special also underperformed critically and i liked that one!! but then they did.....this??
i already kind of didn't care about Mary's past because the whole twist felt like a push for more drama and friction in John & Mary's marriage so to have the whole episode essentially center around her agent past made me feel a bit iffy but i can understand that some people maybe did find it interesting to learn about her. i can give them that. but her dying feels incredibly stupid. i mentioned before how all the twists and shocks lose their value when they try crank out new twists constantly, and that's what makes this infinitely more depressing: i did like her character and felt she was a good balance for John and she just gets reduced to a twist? that feels like nothing anyway? and now we have to put John through even MORE grief and heartbreak because fuck him i guess??????? it's so dumb!!!!!!
and i haven't even MENTIONED how out of character John "cheating" on Mary is........that doesn't make any sense to me especially since that woman ends up being Eurus god this is so stupid!!! this episode probably has its moments but my judgment is very clouded in how atrocious the bad moments are
the lying detective:
i will say, there are a lot of good moments in this episode and it's definitely better than the opening. the case and the villain feel more engaging to me, this guy building a whole death castle is kinda terrifying and puts that scene with the kids in a whole new perspective. i also liked Sherlock and Faith's fun little walk on the town, my only gripe HERE is that they obviously hint at Sherlock hallucinating Faith multiple times during the scenes when he's with her so them double twisting it so that he WAS with someone and it was Eurus feels like they didn't think that one through. unless Eurus along with her other skills can be invisible for everyone except visible for one?? who knows man
also they could've done John being haunted by Mary SO much better this was such a boring way of doing that and the constant "i am in your head you're not arguing with me you're arguing with yourself!! i am your thought process personified!!" got very old very fast...it was also kind of fucked up of Mary to encourage Sherlock to essentially almost kill himself just so John could save him was that really the only way to repair their partnership.....okay.......oh and the bit where he fucking BEATS up Sherlock????? they fucked up John's character in the absolute worst way.
the final scene with Sherlock and John is very sweet and i do wanna bring that up. Sherlock's line where he says "it's not a pleasant thought, John, but i have this terrible feeling from time to time that we might all just be human" is way too good to be in such a shitty episode. they have this sweet moment and then because we need ONE! MORE! TWIST! they introduce the Holmes sister for literally only the finale of the entire show. why introduce such a character that you can only utilise in one episode???
the final problem:
goddamn we finally made it to the last one. the name really checks out on this one this really is the problem child. and i'm not just talking about Eurus!! it is possibly the most different and most weird episode of Sherlock altogether. someone called this a Saw ripoff which is probably accurate (i have never seen Saw), i was heavily reminded of Alice in borderland though!! like the having to solve death games under a time limit was very Alice in borderland to me. all this to say i actually kind of enjoyed this.......like it's still a bit shit if you really think about it but i feel like it does have the same effect that the abominable bride has on me where it actually doesn't really even feel like a normal Sherlock episode and i end up kinda liking how they fucked it up. the characterization issues are also not really present here! Moriarty's one scene slayed he deserved that Queen needle drop. king shit
will also give them this: it's definitely top 3 sickest Sherlock episode openings ever. the plane scenario is something i would've had nightmares about when i was a kid so that was already anxiety-inducing BUT the fucking Moriarty introduction with "welcome to the final problem." like that's my avengers assemble except far more deranged!!!!
however!!!! many gripes with this one!! Sherlock and John jump out of windows while their apartment explodes and are seen in the next scene seemingly not affected whatsoever. Mycroft is said to be in hospital but nothing happened to him either. the Moriarty "miss me?" essentially has zero payoff unless you want to consider that was all planned by Eurus......idk i'm lost on that one. the Molly incident is also never resolved. we leave her so fucking hurt and alone and in the end montage she is seen smiling and friends with everyone. Eurus also has so much potential it's unfortunate she was only introduced for this episode!! she could've saved the show💔
to be honest. my actual biggest pet peeve with this episode is them implying that Moriarty actually did jackshit and Eurus was the brains behind the entire operation........i'm choosing to pretend that's not what happened and Eurus just ended up using clips of him to fuck with Sherlock season 3 finale onward!
the actual ending also just feels like a queerbaiting cop-out. like that can be interpreted as Mary being like admit your true feelings for each other be who you aaaare for yoour priiiiide OR it can be interpreted as omg besties!!! the best of friends need to stay friends forever you guys are such great friends!!!! it's also just....silly????? they could've just had Gatiss & Moffat come on screen to be like thanks for watching our show and the adventures of Sherlock Holmes and John Watson! we've had the best of times we've had the worst of times! and that would've literally served the same purpose lmao
to sum up i will quote the wise letterboxd user Ade, who said this as a review on the final problem:
"Gatiss and Moffat are so concerned with constantly removing the rug from beneath your feet, that after a while you learn not to stand on the rug in the first place."
thank you i'm done now i promise

okay posting my thoughts IMMEDIATELY after having finished the finale:
-lance reddick 💔 hope whatever's next is treating you well. killer performance
-i think the show really would have benefited from longer episodes and maybe more eps too..... they really had to rush through things imo and i wish we could have gotten more downtime with the trio to see their personalities and relationships more. and also like camp in general, when they cut back to percy training w luke it was kinda jarring, like when did they even have time for that
-i really wish they had kept the dimension of annabeth having a crush on luke & showed us their relationship more. she struggles w his betrayal throughout the whole series and the reveal in the finale just felt kinda underwhelming. also i think it's so realistic and relatable to have a crush on a guy like that lol and it just overall adds more flavour in gen but also to her dynamic w percy
-in gen i feel like the show was already foreshadowing percabeth hard and i wish they had not lol. but i was worried they would do that so i may have just read what i thought i was gonna see into it.
-this ties back to pacing/short and limited # of eps, but it's just interesting to see how they tried to take it from book to episodic tv show. the second last few eps i think didn't come off as well/weren't as satisfying as episodes. just interesting to think about the structure an ep calls for and how/where it was a bit incompatible with the story. idk
-i did really like it. the guy who plays poseidon is so hot so gotta watch black sails i guess lol. i need to rewatch to better articulate the things i liked i think. looking forward to watching the making of lol.
-minor thing but wish they had eaten the food at times lol. i know there are very good reasons why they rarely do this in shows in general but i feel it just added to the sense of detachment from the characters that i had.... like idk, eating can just be so personal lol but also they're on this long quest and strapped for cash the entire time, they should be scarfing! they were in the book! minor but it distracted me a bit. and i think also speaks to the lack of downtime/pacing etc thing. i just feel we didn't get to really know the characters well. i think all my thoughts tie back to this really.
-concluding point : it took me so long to get used to seeing them be babies lol, i guess in my mind i tend to always think of them as my age. it's been so long since i read any of the books so i guess i was closer to their age back then esp during the sequel series, so i mostly remember having known them back then i guess? was just odd, they're literal babies!! but i got used to it. looking forward to (hopefully if they get renewed i guess) seeing more of this version of them. may have to reread the books but i may be looking for something i can never get back lol
-glad we saw so much of sally, and her relationship w percy and its complexities. they really focused on parenthood lol
-hopefully if they get renewed they can do longer and more eps. idk tho you really can't trust these platforms. it's sad bc the show could've been really great if they'd had more time to work with. it was good but you can feel the crunch for time imo
-like it's a tv show.... the whole thing is getting more time w the characters (yes the entire thing of all tv shows)..... i just keep thinking, how different is this to the movie exactly. ya it's more faithful the book but what else? it's been eons since i last sawthe movie lol but idk im just thinking.
-really need to rewatch to marinate more on they did end up saying/doing
-okay good night
-wish we had gotten more grover also lol but this ties back to everything i already mentioned

TW self harm, suicide/suicidal ideation
venting
I've been relapsing with self harm recently. But I feel like I can't tell anyone (if one of my friends reads this I'm sorry)
I'm like, I should probably talk to my counsellor about this. Because it's more than the usual one-off. But I don't want to be sent to the hospital or something bc I'm a "danger to myself"
Even tho it's really not that bad. It really isn't. I've hardly gone very deep at all. It barely even counts. And whenever I'm done I look at myself and I think, you should've done more, that was barely anything, you deserve more, but I can't bring myself to, and I know I probably should stop. But the thing that matters is the intent and emotions behind it, I know. So that's still there. Even if I feel like it doesn't really count. It feels so stupid though. bc this is a stupid thing I shouldn't be doing anymore. Fuck, it feels cringey. I'm nearing 30. Only teenagers self harm. I shouldn't be doing this. I should be over it by now. Why am I doing it?
(Not to imply that teenagers are stupid, idk how to explain it but it feels kind of like. When you look at yourself from a few months or a few years ago and you cringe bc you've changed so much and have totally different opinions and stuff and wonder, god how was I like that? It's like that)
And I obviously can't tell my parents, and I don't wanna talk to my sister about it because it seems like too much. And I'm worried that any of them (parents and sister) would potentially try to get me in the hospital
And I don't wanna talk to my friends about it bc I. I feel like. Like a negative influence in their lives rn. bc I've been sick. For just about 2 weeks now. And I can't say I'm 100% better bc I still have a little phlegm. And idk I'm probably not contagious anymore but I don't wanna risk it bc of stuff I can't say publicly bc that's their business. But basically I really really don't want to get them sick, I can't. So unless I'm absolutely positively 100% certain that I'm not sick anymore I can't see them. But we had plans. And they kept having to get delayed. And that stressed me out. So much. Because they're waiting on me. And I told them to do it without me but they insisted they'd wait. And I feel shitty for making that happen bc I have a bitch of a cold that just won't fully go away
And I'm stressed about school. I'll definitely need to take this class again if I wanna do honours like I'm thinking of doing. But I'm also starting to wonder if I should even do this shit? Have I been wasting my time? Can I do this shit? I don't know anymore. It feels like it's out of my reach to do this
So I'm taking this class and hardly passing it which has been extremely stressful, dealing with a group project for another class that has been a nightmare and I've been stressed about that and I wish I could've taken the reins and taken initiative on more than I did this semester but I'm just so tired. Of always having to do that. Of always being the one putting in the most care and effort into my group projects. I'm so tired. In general. And I just couldn't do it this time. But now bc I got sick I've been paranoid that it looks like I've been slacking now!! So I'm putting in more effort to make sure my groupmates know that I'm not, to make sure they know I'm contributing, bc there's a peer review aspect to this project and I don't want them to think I'm a lazy asshole bc I couldn't go to the one class shit was probably finally getting organized, I had to sit on the sidelines. And I feel like most of the work I've done for this project has been useless and that's making me even more paranoid
And the stress of all of this. Of thinking I should probably tell someone about the relapsing but feeling like I can't. And about this class I'm gonna have to retake. And this group project. And wondering if I should even be going down the path I'm trying to go down academically and professionally and maybe I should just stay at my current job for the rest of my life even though I hate the working conditions and the workplace culture there. And being stressed ABOUT being sick bc I feel like I'm letting everyone down. And now having to cram a fuckton of schoolwork that I was planning to do over the course of a couple weeks into a few days bc I had multiple days where I did literally nothing in the hopes that resting would help me get over this quicker so I could stop letting everyone down. All of this stress. Is making me even more stressed and frustrated bc I think it's contributing to me STAYING sick. But I can't just make it all go away. I need to do this hw. I'm not ready to talk about the self harm stuff bc I'm scared I'll end up in the hospital and the trajectory I'm on will all go to waste bc I'll lose however much time bc it turns out I'm quite mentally ill actually and need to deal with that before living my goddamn life and making a career for myself. The cold isn't going away and every day it's still there just adds to the stress. I can't do it. I can't
I'm almost tempted to do something really bad that I can't take back. I'm holding out for the good things I know are coming. The Fools Gold kickstarter rewards hopefully shipping out this january. A concert with my friends in february. A concert with my sister december next year. Fuck, idk, Dan and Phil bringing the gaming channel back and doing Dan vs. Phil S2, it's stupid but it can keep me going. But idk if I can hold out for much else rn besides the people I love, even though I don't feel like I'm worth it rn
I feel like a piece of shit and I'm stressed out about so many things that feel like they shouldn't matter but still stress me out
