Piggy backing off the chaggie being in a settled relationship, I dont think Charlie would've been able to forgive Vaggie that fast if they didnt have such solid ground. Charlie's natural forgiving nature also plays into it but she'd have to be so knowledgable and empathetic about Vaggie's general anxiety to accept the fact that Vaggie was just terrified of telling her and none of the withholding came from a malicious place. Like if a stranger can just say "do you still feel loved? Have you ever doubted she loves you? Then whats the problem" is enough for Charlie to see the bigger picture than thats LOVE LOVE, we just didn't see the bts of a in depth convo about honesty and trust bc its a 23 minute show with 8 episodes and their relationship is not the plot 😭
True!
Apparently one of the reasons why people hate Chaggie is that "their relationship wasn't developed enough" and Im just ??? Tf are you talking about they've been dating for at most 3 years already!
Their relationship not being the plot is so true. I bet if they got more screentime or if their relationship was more focused people would still complain about it, saying that the story should focus on the plot again. There's a whole dang lot going on with a lot of characters. I prefer the romance stuff is more background anyways when there are more thrilling things happening.

Comments on Netflix's Avatar The Last Airbender
*spoiler alert*
First of all I'm gonna start by saying it is one of the best adaptations I've seen so far. And that's the key word, adaptation. I've seen a lot of fans and others complain about some things that honestly, doesn't make sense because some things only work in a cartoon(just as much as some things only work in a book or a video game)
And before I start to talk about some topics that I judge important, I also wanna say that the production is fantastic, from the costumes to the CGI. It all looks amazing. (A part from Yue's wig)
1. The Script
It's not easy to pick 20+ episodes and make it fit in only 8 but damn they did a hell of a good job, especially when judging what was important to show and what they could let it go. Some fans commented that since there's no fillers, the Gaang and others miss some development but I think that for the universe of the live action what we got here it worked.
I can express how much I like to see Ozai and Azula's relationship and how it is now clear that he uses the siblings against each other, manipulating them to get what he wants. But I will admit I miss the fear Azula had, since it's implied in the show and some extras that she does fear Ozai, and fears becoming like Zuko.
I hope the 41. Is just fine after the battle in the north. See all of them bowing to Zuko after discovering that Zuko was the one that saved their asses and was heavily punished by that...it was beautiful. I loved the writers did that, give names and faces to Zuko's crew and a beautiful yet sad arc when Ozai banished his son and the men who he saved.
I also loved that they put weight into things that was treated as a joke, like Katara talking about her mother. She was a little kid who saw her mom get murdered in front of her and the live action made sure to let us know that it is not okay to make jokes about something so traumatic. All of the deaths here have tons of weight in it, it's not some random person, is someone we met, someone we liked, someone who helped. The costs of the war, something the cartoon manages to show us but know in live action, with real people, the massage gets stronger.
And they didn't forget Iroh's past like the fandom does, which is great. That actor, the earthbending soldier really let it all out, that's how you use the few screentime you have.
Sokka's isn't sexist and y'all were making a storm outta a cup of water, is not like Sokka sexist didn't go away after like the 4 or 5 episode in the original show. I think the live action was able to bring more depth to him in comparison to the first season of the cartoon. We see how he feels about his father's, the absence of him and his duty as warrior who kinda doesn't want to be a warrior.
I need a Gyatso in my life, I didn't know I needed to see more of him until the live action gave us more of him. Kyoshi was the Thor coming to Wakanda from this season, WHY THE FUCK BRYKE DONT WANNA GIVE US A KYOSHI SERIES? She is absolutely a jewel of a character. Roku and Kuruk, damn poor Kuruk man, so much pain in his words but again that's what it means to be the Avatar, it's not fun and games. Zhao saying to Aang what Korra villains said to Korra😭 that the world doesn't need the Avatar anymore, it hurt.
Guys I'm gonna say it, there's no way in hell for anyone to ship Kataang here. I'm saying this because some shippers complain that the secret tunnel part was different but c'mon, look at Kiawentiio and look at Gordon, it would be so s awkward and weird and just wrong. I know they don't have a big age difference, is only like 3 years but when they filmed Gordon looked so much younger than her, maybe in the next seasons the difference won't be that big.
The pace is good, once you start you don't wanna stop.
2. The Acting
Everyone is really good at capturing the essence of it's characters and somewhat making them their own. The highlights for me were Dallas and Ian, Its like they came straight from the show. Ken Leung's Zhao was also amazing as he was way more threatening here than he was in the show.
Kiawentiio was the Katara we were looking for, she is kind yet strong, brave and caring. And Gordon was Aang, sure, he has to learn a few things since he slipped a few times in his acting but nothing that could ruin the experience, that kid is good and just needs some experience.
Elizabeth Yu was Azula. It was different but yet the same character, is like learning something new of her and I like how cleared she show emotions with her eyes. Maria Zhang had great chemistry with Ian and I can't wait to see more of Suki. Arden Cho and Yvonne Chapman as June and Avatar Kyoshi look like they came out straight from the cartoon. Daniel Dae Kim...man is Ozai, so cold, so sharp, so scary, already way better than the cartoon version. I wanna see more of Paul Sun-Hyung Lee as Iroh since the character he really starts to shine in book 2.
3. The live action doesn't have the spirit of the OG?
Yes, it does have. The thing is now that we are seeing real people, things get dark one way or another but I don't think it ruined the spirit of the show. Aang is still a kid, Sokka still making sarcastic jokes, Zuko still annoying as hell, Katara still hopeful and strong... There's everything there really.
The thing is stuff like genocide, murder, war, death and suffering are, for some people, better to watch as pixels in a cartoon than real people.
I think it's a great adaptation and I would recommend it to every fan.

super good reasons why you should check out antics at akademi
it's made by a non-pedophilic non-ableist (neurodivergent!) actually decent human being (i hope) writer who knows how to handle serious topics like racism and homophobia (i am poc and queer!) unlike yonder devon who implements it as a twagic bwackstowy for a background character
representation of other ethnicities other than just japanese
neurodivergent rep and NON-VILLAINIZED DEPICTIONS OF MENTAL ILLNESS!!! done with actual research
disabled rep!!!! done with actual research!!!!
lgbtq+ rep! for the girls and the gays (and its not just gays lesbians and bis. theres people on the aro/ace spectrum, theres trans people, theres NONBINARY PEOPLE and that includes the whole umbrella, inkyu kenko musume and saki r all intersex guys)
it's a slice of life comedy!! it's an ensemble story with every single character as the protagonist!! your fav will get lots of screentime!! and they'll be super silly 24/7!!
cute redesigns!!! :D
family bonding for those who want it. wholesome genuine friendships for those who want it. fleshed out and developed romances with actual chemistry for those who want it.
and yes. the faculty gets screentime too. dont think i left those lovely ladies out (and kocho)
its intentionally silly! this story does not take itself seriously! im not including stupid anime tropes and then doing deep narration voice and expecting you to gasp and cry at it
ayano gets a character arc!!!!!! she gets to be happy!!!!!!! do you want to see mentally ill autistic bisexual girl get happy!??!??!! yes you do check out aaa!!!!
there are actual serious moments though. you get to see these characters be genuinely sad, show actual weakness, you see just how shitty their circumstances really are, and then you get to see them get better. you will see, you will get to witness how it gets better. how it gets better, by working through it and facing it head-on, by having the support of people you love, by believing. it will get better if you just try. you can make it better.
no death only happy!!!! you get to see your favs be happy!!!!
you'll be supporting a queer poc neurodivergent writer oooooooooooo ooooooooo im waving my magic wand at you oooooooooooo
epic rap battles of akademi is a plot device
SO MUCH DEPTH TO EVERY CHARACTERRRRR go on. ask me any question about any person. i'll answer.
i. i've just been working on this for 3 years. an actual audience would be very rewarding and motivating for me. hi.
follow my blog for updates on antics at akademi (and make sure to block the "not aaa related" tag if you're only here for that!)

Misogyny is so incredibly normalized its actually insane. Theres batshit levels of casual misogyny thrown around in td, and im fine with it for plot and stuff, but that tweet of terry mcgurrin saying there's no homphobic characters or whatever. Like okayyyy i see your priorities.
The misogyny that is just casually in the show can get genuinely upsetting to watch sometimes. Women are constantly disrespected and paraded around as objects. Duncan saying to courtney whats for dinner woman. The double gold at the babe Olympics shit. The men are allowed to pull two girls but as soon as a girl pulls two guys shes the devil and should kill herself (gwen, bridgette, even courtney in the case of scott) And characters are reprimanded for being sexist in the show, but it doesnt feel like it happens enough
And again, im ok with it for the plot and stuff. (Also its a show from 2007. Its gonna be far from unproblematic) but it reflects HARD in the fandom. The people that blame Gwen and Courtney for the love triangle stuff? Insane. Actually genuinely insane. They either actually believe it can be someones (that just SO HAPPENS to be a woman) fault for being cheated on, or they just say that to piss people off who sympathize with courtney (or even gwen in the case of duncan fucking Breaking Into The Bathroom to kiss her. She was coerced into that kiss)
The list could actually go on and on and on.
The way people say bridgette is a bad person for getting coerced into a kiss even after apologizing while they completely forget geoff making eyes at other girls and calling them hot
The way people fawn all over noah and cody despite being in a minimal amount of episodes and/or never having that large of a role, while hating female characters in similar alleyways of screentime or usage
The mass popularity of mlm ships compared to wlw ships. Total drama has a pretty wide array of female characters that are just as developed or even more than the most popular male characters/ships. The usual excuse of female characters just being underdeveloped/bad characters and therefore unfun to ship doesnt apply.
I saw someone called homophobic for saying a lot of mlm ships feel like mlw ships but for people that dont want to write a woman
And its not like thinking one of these things automatically makes someone a misogynist, but it feels like everyone harbors some kind of misogynistic thinking. Its exhausting. Like you have to fight back so hard only for no one to care and for people to tell you youre exaggerating. the moment theres any SEMBLAMCE of homophobia, people dogpile them, but the rampent misogyny gets nothing done about it. Im tired

Gen V theories
Memory Loss:
I don't think it was rufus, it is too obvious and also he said that "it wasn't what it looked like" which I am skeptical of because he was LITERALLY NAKED, and is sooooooooooo slimy, but it is so obvious that I think they might do an expectation subversion and have him have a part of the puzzle. Hes been getting a lot of pointless attention, nothing he has done so far has furthered the plot despite getting so much screentime, so I think he'll be more important in the future (and probably pissed at Marie).
I am suspicious of the dean, tek knight said she doesnt have powers but it seems like the kind of thing she'd hide (victoria nueman style). Even if she doesn't have powers she has plenty of supes at her disposal. Doctor Cardoza seemed a bit too wimpy to mind wipe them. She seems to have a lot of secrets, and is the one who is gonna take the fall for Sam, so despite her soft spot for Marie (is it real? idk but it seems sweet for now) she'd still do that.
It would make the most sense if it was all of them were mindwiped because then giving them amnesia would serve the purpose of having them all forget about Sam.
Working off the theory that it was all of them I dont think it was cate, its been established that pushing to many people tire her out and she has been over working herself.
Jordan/Marie
Marie is full on gay panicking, and I don't think she would've ever been in a proper relationship before given her childhood which adds another layer of shit into their relationship. Its gonna be rocky for a bit, but I think that they won't break up because of Jordans gender. Their flirting in the hallway and also their general vibe makes me think she is attracted to them, and she doesn't seem like the kind of person who would run from that, but idk, my point is i dont think she's straight.
Jordan is prob panicking about if Marie is straight, given that they switched genders, which makes sense, would also indicate that they geniunely like her.
Jordan doesn't seem like an asshole to me they just seem introverted and very driven, Marie just met them in the worst possible circumstance where their goals were incompatable but I don't think they are.
Marie's sister
there is a chance she could have powers, the parents did it for her so why not her sister too, there is the question of why it didnt manifest by then, but maybe powers are genetic so they developed late like marie's
maybe she went to the woods like sam
Cate lying about Sam
I think maybe her and luke were actually both mind wiped, luke got really upset when he found out sam was being hidden, maybe both he and cate were brainwashed to forget.

Obscure Far Cry Promos and Content
I'm a big far cry fan, which means I have to make my own food in this economy. But sometimes I just want some ACTUAL canon or canon-ish or even just canon-adjacent content, y'know? It has gotten to the point I go into youtube rabbit holes or watch a remarkably below average hallmark movies for 5 minutes of an actor's screentime to hopefully hear Jason or Ajay or whoever talk. And so in these quests, I've found a couple obscure promos. Gonna compile them here for myself mostly :)
Far Cry 3
Far Cry 3 - The Voices of Insanity: Doctor Earnhardt //a live action video with Alec Earnhardt's VA
Far Cry 3 - The Voices of Insanity: Vaas //same thing but with Michael Mando
Hoyt Audition Far Cry 3 //the last part of "The Voices of Insanity" videos, couldn't find the one from Ubisoft's own account but someone else had posted it on youtube
Far Cry 3 for PS3: TV Spot
Far Cry 3 -- Island Survival Guide: Psychopaths, Drugs & Other Dangers // video narrated by Willis Huntley
Far Cry 3 -- The Savages: Vaas & Buck // this video shows a rare render of vaas with tataus on his arm!
Far Cry 3 | The Tribe: Citra & Dennis //this video has a deleted scene where Jason hallucinates the tatau snaking up his arm
Far Cry 3 -- The Tyrant: Hoyt
Far Cry 3 - Insane Edition // this is a promo done for a special edition for the game, Michael Mando probably couldn't shoot the promo himself and just voice acted, and so they used another actor and made it so the camera never sees Vaas's face.
^ There is also a survival guide titled Face Your Insanity written by post-Rook events Jason Brody as part of the Insane Edition.
Far Cry 3 | E3 2012 Step Into Insanity Trailer [NORTH AMERICA] // this has a few close-ups of Jason and Vaas switching places with each other
Far Cry 3 Interviews (via @lulu2992)
Far Cry 3 Tweets by Jeffrey Yohalem, the lead writer. (also compiled by @/lulu2992! Thanks again!)
Far Cry 4
Divya Kandala's Blog (archived on the Wayback Machine) // Divya Kandala is a fictional journalist who wrote a blog about her travels to Kyrat, her blog's basically world-building promo for FC4. You could also find the house she stayed at in Kyrat!
Far Cry 4 TV Commercial
Far Cry 4 | Kyrat Tuk Tuk Stories //this is the MOST we see ajay in third person in promo content
Far Cry 4 - CGI Trailer // this isn't exactly RARE but it took forever for me to find that clip of ajay's eyes reflecting from the kukri. plus he looks EXTREMELY caucasian which really doesn't help the rumors I've heard that they originally wanted Jason again as FC4's protag
Comedy Central Far Cry 4 Commercial feat Danny Pudi & Donald Glover
Far Cry 4 and Childish Gambino: The Collaboration | PS4, PS3 // a music video for Crawl by Childish Gambino done as a collab
Old Archive.Org link to the Far Cry 4 webpage that had a choose your own adventure campaign
^ and the youtube video to promote it
Far Cry 4 | Behind the Scene Trailer 1/3 [Europe] // developer vlogs when they visited Nepal and interviewed the ghurka that became base for Golden Path, you can see the village that resembles Banapur a lot!
Far Cry 4 Performance Capture Interview // you can see Janina Gavankar, Amita's actress doing some mocap in this
Janina Gavankar Talks Far Cry 4 - ^ and the interview with her after
World Gameplay Premiere - Walkthrough E3 2014 - Far Cry 4 // this was to showcase gameplay but they eventually took out this entire mission where you have to wingsuit to Ratu Gadhi (Yuma's fortress), which is a shame because it looked very nice.
Far Cry 5
i'll be honest, im not a fc5 girlie, so i dont usually do a lot of digging, and im pretty sure these are actually not obscure at all. but these are trailers i found that really blew it out of the park. the marketing team for 5 really went HAM
Far Cry 5: Teaser Trailer | Ubisoft //this has a peggie banging someone's head to a church bell rhythmically with the gorgeous view of Montana mountains as backdrop and i for one, find it hilarious
Far Cry 5 | The Sermon - Live Action Trailer
Far Cry 5 | The Baptism - Live Action Trailer //somebody once mentioned this one has Joseph looking like Trevor GTA and i have never quite known peace ever since. it really also shows the reality of how Joseph is actually just really Unwell, and lore that Joseph killed Pastor Jerome's daughter that never showed up in-game.
Far Cry 5: Anything Can Happen, Everything Will - Live Action TV Spot | Trailer // mixes live action and game CGI renders, pretty cool actually!
The Making of Far Cry 5 | Behind the Scenes of Ubisoft [Documentary]
Far Cry 6 Comics
not gonna put in FC6 stuff because they're actually very easy to find! lots of trailers and mocaps and interviews on youtube :) Far Cry 6 actually has a more obscure lore in their comics
Far Cry: Esperanza's Tears comic // this is a Juan-centric prequel comic that features a completely new country, lore about Far Cry universe's political landscape, and lots of cameos from 3-6's characters! very interesting read especially if you're a sucker for backstories like me
Far Cry: Rite of Passage comic // this is more popular as it features Anton telling Diego the backstories for 3-5's villains.
There is also a book titled The Official Far Cry Survival Guide written by a fictional character called Hunter Nash, who supposedly grew up with Hope County-level of a doomsday prepper dad and winds up as a journalist who travels to the locations of 3-6 and wrote how to survive each location accordingly. It's adorned with official artwork of the games and plenty of survival tips. Not much lore-wise, but cool nonetheless! it also fuels my co-workers au ideas but that's personal.
i have actually found stuff like a really old MTV show called Undressed with Gianpaolo Venuta where he uses his Jason voice for his character, and how Patrick Kwok-Choon, the new voice actor for Ajay does voice acting in Thomas the Train Engine and Paw Patrol, and an indie movie with Greg Bryk where he wears fun sunglasses like Joseph, but that's neither here nor there to the franchise, so eh. // i'll edit this post if i find more, so maybe check back sometimes!

Episode 7 Veredict:
2/5 Straw Hats 👒👒
(its more of a 2.5 if im honest)
The good:
Lovely to see Zeff and Garp interact, they had a wonderful date
Yup, 5/5 sad backstories made me weep
Emily Rudd, you have my respects
I will say this, this show did know how to add more diversity to the charecters, i know a lot of people complained about the casting for Nojiko and fuck that, i loved LA Nojiko even if she was there for little screentime
Ehh could've been better:
Beyond Nami backstory and the iconic scene at the end, i legit cant tell you what else happens i this ep and i just watched it (besides Garp and Zeff that is)
The village seemed so off and tuned down. Idk, whit the care and desing than went into every other set it was a shame the village seemed like 5 huts in a circle
I def not vibe with the tone they gave Arlong Pirates. In the anime, eventually we find out about the past between humans and fishmen and the racial tension that exists and how much it influences Arlong. Here the racial theme is very heavy (which is not on itself a problem), but on top of that, why on earth they made the Arlong Pirates the steriotypical black gangster street crew?? Idk it felt very lazy and unoriginal, not a graceful mirroring. The clothes, the music, the hang out spot. I feel like a bunch of white men from the 90s came up with the concept. I dont vibe with the gangsta' thing they tried to pull, specially considering the combination with the racial theme.
I do not appreciate they made Zoro more antagonistic towards Sanji when in reality Zoro has always being reacting to Sanji's attacks, but this is just me speaking as a longtime Zoro fan lol
The plot felt rushed at the end. They spend the whole episode in a flashback and when came back they had 10 min left of ep and a whole charecter development moment to cram in there. I feel it would've worked better if Nami had run to the village and found it ablaze or already burned. Then her anger and desperation would truely being uncontrolable, her whole world and hope dissapeared before her, and end the episode with Luffy screaming to the skies that ofc he will help her. Instead she stops running just bc, in the middle of the field?, and the ep ends in a cliffhanger that was not necessary
Is not that i didnt like the ep, i enjoyed it too but i just think some things were a bit off

What do you think of Liams writing, do think the way he writes storys is good or how he writes female characters (Doll, Uzi, V, Tessa ...) and male characters (N, Thad, Khan)
Thank you for the ask!
Okay, if Im honest... I think is not bad. Not perfect, obviously, but is not bad. Tough I feel Murder drones is going a bit too fast, is still a good written show.
Now, I haven watched Intercube, if I remember the name right, but I did watch the Clint pilot, and I enjoyed a lot!
About the characters im gonna divide it in two categories female and male.
The female characters... are pretty good! Like, seriously. They are different from each other. We have Uzi, who is an angsty and edgy girl, but has a soft side, then V, who is very sadistic, but cares about N, and grows to care about Uzi too. Also having interesting stuff, like she remembers what happenes in the mansion.
Tessa is a happy and energetic girl, and hilarious. But is obvious she is hidding something.
I could go on all day, but, lets keep going with other stuff.
In other words, yes, I think he does writtes his female characters in a good way. I like it. Tough I wish V got a bit more screentime before (suposedly) dying.
The male characters... Thad is a nice guy and I like him but I dont have more to say. Khan is a very interesting character, who is having a very subtle character development. And N... OH BOY, I LOVE HIM SO MUCH. He is also really interesting, in the pilot doing murder and stuff but at the same time being sweet and adorable. Also, interesting stuff is happening to him...
Summary, yes, Liam writting is good.

how. how would i even write out a proper fic of dramaturgy au,,
cutting this off bc i got too caught up in myself and rambled
ok umm,, dramaturgy as an au is just so character study-ish and generally character-focused,, plus the initial developments made on island are kiinda important to the cast dynamic?? so as i see it there are a few options:
A: rehash/go through the unchanged plot of island, the TDDDDI special, some eps of WT, using it to develop the Situation from other characters perspectives while maybe having one or two to emphasize noahs characterization
it gives a lot of time for character developments outside of noah himself, and time to reinforce noahs own characterization using that outside perspective,, but could potentially get boring/long-winded, since nothing different happens and its literally just Characters Having Screentime
^ maybe sub a full going-through with character vignettes and specific scenarios throughout island/the special/celeb. manhunt or after TD/eps of WT??? i guess you could also slot smth like this in with the other ideas aswell
B: begin the hypothetical fic post-jamaica challenge and leading into london, use it to exposition some minor things and generally establish characterization before getting into challenges and actual canon divergence
it doesnt drag on (as much atleast), gives you enough time with enough cast members to establish what the others think of noah and what noah thinks/how he behaves and why (probably slot in his distrust of alejandro here??), more challenges gives noah more chances (and reasons) to break character, though the character development has to be slow and conflict should probably be built up (but im kinda partial to this one ngl)
C: kindof half-baked but beginning in london (i’m imagining literally at his eel line), where hes eliminated that episode, but comes back via comeback challenge; arc kicked off by being so pissed off that he has to come back and do the Same Shit yet again (and probably because of producer-rigging. again.)
the conflict/character dynamics would move a little faster, its less to trudge through and figure out canon changes like the butterfly effect of noah staying in the game in london, but having less characters to have relationships/interactions with (but making the ones had can be more developed/rounded as a result), less Time in general, the original idea of noah ‘unmasking’ alejandro is kiiinda less impactful this late into the game?? slightly i feel like
or D: even more half-baked than C and kinda just 'possible' and feeling out of place, but you could have noahs arc happen in all-stars instead (smth smth the audience was vv dissatisfied with how he ranked in WT and so he gets brought back)
^ this is mostly bc i like the motif of noah having eel-pond related scars and seeing it as a physical reminder of where 'acting like the camera isn't there' can get him (but you could potentially fit this into the C idea, posing it more as a bitter feeling/theme rather than a motivation to continue his facade)
i dont really like this one from a storytelling standpoint, and it doesnt make much sense since theres no character motivation via unmasking alejandro since everyone already knows at this point?? idk it is there though
umm yeah thats all ive got, i guess you could also mismatch ideas like B&C so the fic starts post-jamaica but noah still gets eliminated, or have noah eliminated after london but still winning the comeback challenge and coming back swearing vengeance (within his own head mostly) or smth like that
i kinda wanted to just put this Out in the World and let it simmer before i start combing through WT to make the allotted ‘official’ canon changes of this au lol
(and not to mention theres still the issue of the actual Ending,, does he win?? is his winning both symbolic and the first genuine, intentional break of character he makes, to the audience and his peers beyond the unintentional ones hes made along the way???
smth smth character growth, hes learned how to let himself break character but now hes learning to do it intentionally too??? < im partial to that but im also biased towards noah and any hypothetical win of his
^ or does he lose?? and his ending watching the finalists parallel the island bit where he Did Not Care but now??? idk idk the longer i think the more i like the whole symbolic win thing but in terms of storytelling/the Themes, does it Work. i do like to think so
the original draft of this idea has noah not in fact winning but it also had a strangely,,,,, vindictive tone?? that might not be the word but the Themes were different and noah was more scheme-ish rather than defense mechanism-having so im thinking the ending should change as well)

I've been thinking a bit recently about how things like Tumblr and Twitter have changed how we approach subjects and people
(cw discussion of sexual assault in media/fiction, and right-wingers and such on twitter, as well as mention of nazis)
like, maybe a decade and a half or so ago, i remember a push to never write rape into stories because there's 'never a need for it', which at the time when i was much younger, seemed like it made sense. people argued that sexual assault never, and could never, provide anything to the plot and there was no reason to include it
this is, of course, in hindsight, completely bullshit
there's no reason for lots of things in fiction. the recent thing that's being declared as pointless and unnecessary by puriteens and their ilk is sex scenes, with the declaration that they are never important, never push the plot forward, contribute nothing and shouldn't exist ever
also bullshit! it entirely depends on how something is written whether a subject was unnecessary (not always a reason to leave it out) or important to the plot and/or development of characters
but the root of 'stop putting rape in your fiction 😠' started, i think, from people who were very tired of people who treated it with no respect and offered no warning shoehorning it into things and startling victims with it
there's a line that goes: rape victims exist and can be triggered by rape in fiction, murder victims dont so that's fine
also bullshit, really, considering how many people survive attempted murder, but i can see where they were coming from with it. getting triggered out of nowhere by a rape scene you didn't expect, weren't warned for, and is written poorly at best must be incredibly triggering
(which isn't to say you cant write it poorly, or write it for a kink (especially considering a lot of the people who write it as a kink are survivors themselves and use it to cope and express), or write it for any number of reasons, it's actually just to say it should be warned for. trigger warnings should exist on every piece of media, and should be available but optional for those who dont want spoilers/warnings)
the problem is that this 'dont write rape' i think has snowballed slowly over time from 'writing rape is unnecessary and harmful' to this bizarre notion of 'depiction is support and endorsement'
i saw someone on twitter today mad that neil gaiman included the nazi minisode in good omens season 2, a minisode in which the nazis were doomed to an eternity in hell, struck a deal to get out of it, and then were, when they kept to their side of the deal, basically told they were doomed to zombify to bits on earth as punishment for being the worst ever and really, did they expect anything else considering they were going to hell? lol
but this person was really mad he'd given screentime to nazis because surely this meant something really bad about neil gaiman, like that he supports nazis or sympathises with them or something
(the minisode wasnt even written by him and cast the nazis not just in the bad light of being horrible people but also in the bad light of being incompetent idiots)
to a lot of people now, who seem to completely lack media literacy, depiction == endorsement, and i just find that bafflingly weird
similarly i've noticed a trend where observation is also endorsement? if you watch or read or listen to something or someone who has bad opinions or bad points of view, you must be bad yourself
this one i think i can trace back to twitter being twitter. for example, if i get a copy of some right wing nazi twat's book from a charity shop, and i read it to understand their point of view to better counter it, the only one i am offering any support or endorsement to is the charity shop who get a couple of quid for me buying the book from them
however, on the hellsite that is twitter, if i follow John Right Wing so i can observe his opinions and better counter them, or prepare countermeasures of some sort in an activist way, or write scripts for video essays like the kind Shaun on yt does, twitter assumes that this means JRW will get them more ad revenue - after all, someone is following him - and pushes him to more people
observation is not endorsement, but twitter's algorithm doesnt know this and responds by giving JRW more engagement and pushing him to people who may not know he's a shitbag and may internalize his messages
in this way, i can understand why when someone sees that Supposed Leftwing Youtuber follows John Right Wing on twitter, they immediately declare this is bad and proof that SLY is actually a nazi in disguise - after all SLY is endorsing JRW's bad ideology by engaging on twitter!
for the same reason, i can understand why people do their, "72 of my mutuals are following JRW, who recently posted this crap about marginalized people. block him!!!" bullshit. they dont want to be complicit in helping JRW reach more people, possibly vulnerable people, and spread his ideology
it just totally forgets that being aware of things and understanding things is one of the basic requirements of being able to fight those things effectively
to me both these things come down to the same thing that's permeating how everyone approaches, well, everything at the moment: to see something and not look away from it is endorsement of that thing. if you're watching a tv show and the tv show includes a rape scene or a nazi and you continue to watch it, you are endorsing rape and nazis, even if the nazi is shown as stupid and evil and the rape is shown as a terrible, horrifying act. if you're watching a person or a character be disgusting and bigoted and you continue to watch, to engage, to even consider maybe things could change there, you are implicitly supporting that bigotry
after all, in the world of twitter if you reply to a bigot and say, "hey, you're wrong actually, and here's sources on that" or "hey, this isn't cool, can we discuss this?", even if there's a miniscule chance that you might change things (and, after all, isn't that what, to an extent, activism is? not everyone should be expected to engage with bigots in a vain hope of changing their minds, but some people should, because if we can change even one or two minds that aren't completely rotted to the core, that have a chance of change and evolution, that's an actual real positive effect we're having on the world, and even the smallest change can grow and develop into something more, you just have to nurture the seed of it, rather than throw the entire garden away as corrupt) you are engaging with a bigot, and thusly a bigot yourself because engagement is support. engagement is endorsement.
engagement brings ad revenue and encourages the continuation of bad behavior, so it's better to stick your fingers in your ears, go "LALALA" and pretend it isn't happening at all.
i think this might also be why when a section of a fandom decides Mr Character is a Bad Person and has Innate Bigotry, if some other section of the fandom engages with that character - whether the bigotry is real or imagined - they are seen as bigots themselves, because engagement and depiction are endorsement, and engaging with such things means you support it, even if you really, really don't
on the same vein when someone says something dumb they are often written off instantly as irredeemable - much like certain media are painted as if they have one subjectively 'bad' quality - because continuing to engage with that dumb thing will likely boost that person in the algorithm and no one wants to risk being why they double down on their dumb thing so their account gets more traction in the online space
for the same reason they dont want to continue to support writers who write 'bad things' or 'irredeemable media' because gasp what if the algorithm thinks they're supporting the bad parts of the media and that means more things include that bad thing they want to see less of?
i don't have a conclusion for this, it's just some thoughts really. i think the latest iteration of the internet has completely warped how we engage with everything, to the point people act like a single thought leads to endless undoable corruption out of sheer fear of nurturing those things simply by dwelling on them
fuck twitter lmao

Welp. Okay I watched the last episode of ofmd.
To sum up my thoughts on this season I will say that whilst I enjoyed it and felt the love and passion and respect for its queer fanbase throughout, it didnt hit me the same way the first season did. It felt like maybe a little bit of that season 1 magic was missing and for that I very much blame Max's cutting off 2 episodes and slashing the budget. They had a lot of story they wanted to tell that would have worked so much better in 10 episodes.
I consider the last 3 episodes of season 1 some of the best TV I have seen in my life. From the use of The Chain in ep 8, through the dramatic highs and lows of eps 9 and 10 it was edge-of-your-seat drama and I was in awe at the creators that put it together. But one of the reasons why those 3 eps were so good is because the drama and the pivotal moments were given time to breath.
If those 3 eps were given the same lack of time and budget as season 2, no doubt they all would have been crammed into 1 episode and it would not have had the same impact.
If anything that last episode should have played out across two, with Izzy's death being the half way point and cliffhanger ending leading to a final battle and somewhat happy resolution.
I'm not mad at Izzy's death. If anyone was gonna die, it was gonna be him. His status as Blackbeards enabler and sometimes mentor is over. For Ed to truly be free, I think Izzy always had to go. From a storytelling perspective it makes perfect sense, even though I am sure a lot of fans are absolutely heartbroken about it.
Another casualty of the reduced screentime meant certain original cast members weren't given anywhere near the amount of screentime they should have had. I was expecting a lot more focus on Jim as they were basically the third lead of s1 due to them getting the same backstory as Ed and Stede. All of the crew appear to have had drastically reduced parts which does feel like a big loss to me.
Its funny actually, OFMD S2 suffered from the opposite problem to GOS2. OFMD had too much story to tell in a limited timeframe, GOS2 had very little story to tell outside of the flashbacks and probably too much time given to it. Both shows season 2s suffered from tremendously bad pacing issues.
Also, the one thing the final episode made so obvious to me, is the uncertainty of getting a s3 renewal. It is so clear in the way they tried to wrap things up in a happy bow as best they could, so that if they do get cancelled it leaves fans at least somewhat satisfied. I hate this though. I hate that studios are so fickle and ruthless that creators have to gamble with good quality writing and avoid cliffhangers because of asshole executives who dont actually care about the stories.
Because of the fast pacing, and the fear of cancellation, it felt more like a rush happy ending instead of a part way point in a bigger story, with important character development still to come. Perhaps I need more time to absorb the story in a full rewatch, but im not exactly itching for more at this point, whilst also not really being satisfied with what I got either. I wish we had left Ed and Stede in at least some minor peril, like have them captured and threatened with hanging but at least in a good place romantically, so that we can start speculating about what kind of escape plan they will come up with in season 3. Leaving them in a dilapidated old inn somewhere just felt wrong to me. Instead of ending the season with the stakes sky high (like season 1) it feels like they left season 2 with zero stakes at all, instead of at least a happy medium. At this point we should be turning to fanfiction and wondering what happens next, but instead I'm left thinking "okay then. That was good. What can I watch next?" I don't need to bury myself in fanfic and fanart to feed the hyperfixation this time around, and that is where I feel the most loss.
I'm sure others will have hugely different reactions to me though. Perhaps my expectations were too high? Perhaps my GO obsession just isn't leaving room for OFMD this time? But then again, I think if GOS2 hadn't ended the way it did, I wouldn't still be so obsessed with that either.
Sigh. I dunno. It was a good fun show and will no doubt still be hugely popular with devoted fans, but for me I just can't say it cast the same spell over me as it did last year.

THE TENNIS MATCHES ALL FEEL SO SATISFYING!!! <3333333 omg. i feel like WUOOOOOH u know. i feel so cool playing a cool talented mc omg im loving it (i play a i-win-everything type of mc becuz im a perfectionist with a fear of failure) the matches me on edge in my seat oh gosh <3 and when u win it somehow just go WOOOOOOOH again!!! AAAAAA<3
5. aw, and of course, my beloved rivals to lovers rayyan <3333 *sigh* the slowburn.... (hes actually my first & only one. i go: ohhh tension!?!? and make a run for it. um, if it's ok to ask, is there a lot of content in the romance area as of now or in the future? like, replayability in terms of romance? im sorry if this is rude, i didnt mean to, i suck at words & i wont ask that again.)
6. FOUND FAMILY YAY! FOUND FAMILY YAY! <33333 (we genuinely lack those in the if community pls.) soulmates w/ sam. ride or die diego. very reluctant ride or die G (imma be honest, his name is just so hard so my head for some reason just go Guacamole 😭). aww tobin u very big cinammon roll ill protect u. shenanigans. & others too many to name honestly.
7. help this is just so good i had to force myself to sleep at 3am for a 7am lecture and i sat in the front rows and i put my head on the table and the fricking professor called me out ohmygod- BUT IT WAS WORTH IT GODDAMN!! <333 okok. take care of urself, dont forget to eat healthy, drink water & good sleep. have a nice day :D
Wait. I think I might have missed replying to this I am so sorry!!! It gave me so so much joy. Maybe I subconsciously did not want it to leave my inbox haha.
1. And 2 -> THANK YOU!
3. Gosh this is such a great thing to hear. There are a looot of characters, and I definitely worry sometimes that it gets to be too much, but I think the IF is getting long enough for me to give enough-ish screentime to each character... though it takes me a while to cycle back to different side characters. I cant believe you remembered the cool ass girl in laser tag! :)
4. AWESOME to hear! 🥰
5. Yup, being a character driven IF, there will be a lot of romance (or friendship) beats / moments in the IF (which is already true now). The next couple of chapters will follow the same mix of sports, school and romance / hanging out, so you should already have a sense of how much romance there'll be (it'll just keep unfolding / developing for each of the RO routes!)
6. Hehe found family is my fave trope to insert in stories as well.
7. Hahaha aww oh no fictional college life is catching up to your real college life!!
8. HUG YOU BACK (with consent)!!🤗🤗

Season finale was... alright.
I dont like where they took Joan's arc personally, I also dont like that she became main character when in the old show it seemed like every character had equal screentime.
Kahlopatra's peak fucking comfy and the Basketball scene was great Confusious JFK and Abe being bros is fantastic, I specially like JFK and Confusious since they stablished him being his first guy friend before, wish we saw more interactions between them.
In general it feels... rushed? Abe and JFK being friends, Confusious having issues with Harriet because he simply has negative ambition while she is perma-aimin for the stars is a pretty good dynamic settup, but thats kinda my problem, these are all SETTUPS that I feel could have been set up much earlier and given more time to feel natural if they just cut some of the fluff.
TLDR the whole season feels somehow paradoxically rushed and too padded, it aint as funny as S1 either, but the (majority imo Joan and Abe need some tweaks to go back to their S1 peak) of characters are pretty cool, hope next season they develop all of their potential cuz theres a lot of gold under the roughness.

also thinking abt . canon aus again. or whatever they're called.
what's the shipping scene like. do you and your f/o have a lot of screentime together? do you two get dedicated scenes to develop your relationship? does it happen off screen? were you two never explicitly confirmed, but given various visual cues (ie. matching anything, jewelry that matches eachothers theme, etc etc)?
or are you two more off to the side? never really shown off too much aside from a few shots of you talking in the background? or maybe you've never interracted at all but people just think you'd look cute together or that your themes or personalities or whatevers just matchup too well!!
or maybe you're a crackship. i dont know. completely different sources. people just think it'd be cute. maybe it started as a joke and people started getting attached. who knows. love is love.
