Greetings bugs and worms!

This comic is a little different than what I usually do but I worked real hard on it—Maybe I'll make more infographic stuff in the future this ended up being fun. Hope you learned something new :)

If you are still curious and want to learn more about OCD, you can visit the International OCD Foundation's website. I also recommend this amazing TED ED video "Starving The Monster", which was my first introduction to the disorder and this video by John Green about his own experience with OCD.

The IOCDF's website can also help you find support groups, therapy, and has lots of online guides and resources as well if you or a loved one is struggling with the disorder. It is very comprehensive!

i am convinced every teen boy i know is walking around depressed as shit because they don’t feel safe expressing their feelings and once they get the slightest chance to show them they will not. stop.

like holy shit before starting high school everyone was all shits and giggles. now this dude is crying to me about his suicide attempts, this other is ranting about how he is a useless scum, another says nobody ever is their true self around people - holy shit, it’s so much. and i never realized how much it is, overwhelmingly so.

boys, please know you can be open about your feelings. this is a desperate message to you - talk to people. phone a family member, text a friend, call a helpline if needed. vent (after making sure the person you are venting to is in the right mental space for you to do) & rant & cry & fucking scream if you have to. you don’t have to walk around looking all cool, happy, detached from reality - it’s okay to show & talk about the fact that you have feelings. it’s okay to have feelings in general - you’re human. you’re doing all you can and that’s amazing. i’m proud of you. stay safe. remember you are loved.

#i was raised on toxic masculinity BS and lived in a toxic household that treated me like anything i did was a burden #i was ignored and neglected and very lonely at home. and in school i couldnt show it because i had to be a strong boy. i wasnt able to feel #anything anywhere at all ever. and the attempts i made to reach out were shut down #i felt like the only person i had was myself. that i would just be alone in this world forever and i'd have to deal with it #and although putting up that wall was strength in some form..... its more like a poorly built dam if you get it #it's strong until someone finds the little gap and it all comes crashing down. my weaknesses were taken advantage of #which made me feel like not only was i alone. but that everyone was out to get me.#it took a lot of effort and patience to get me where i am now and although im still healing #it doesnt hurt to reach out. it shouldnt hurt. the people i surround myself with are good and dont mean to hurt me #and its important to recognize what is and isnt a safe space to let out your feelings #and i know there are SO many boys who have fake friends that make them feel like shit and those ones need a better environment #because nothing you are doing toughens you up. it doesnt make you stronger. it just makes you sad.

A lot clicked for me when my mom said the reason she was so reactive towards me as a kid was that she assumed intent behind things I did, rather than recognizing my behaviors for being normal kid behaviors or normal autism behaviors. So I got treated as if I was an adult who was intentionally doing things to upset her. She'd react to me like I had the maturity and wherewithal to do things in a cruel or manipulative way, making her life harder, when I was just existing. Just trying to learn how to cope and be a person myself. When she told me this I stopped in my tracks trying to process. Why would anyone's default assumption be that a kid is trying to antagonize them instead of like, struggling with something they're experiencing? But she was also raised the exact same way, treated like everything she did carried the weight of adult responsibility, not seen as a kid.
