Idea Theft and Plagiarism on the Obey Me Fandom
Note: This message was originally posted in my AO3 as an announcement that follows the final update bulk of my Obey Me CYOA fic for the year 2020. As what was already mentioned in the post, I do not wish to disclose the person's identity nor cause harm for them. I only wanted to have my own closure, as did they attain upon their final message with me prior to blocking them.
Hello everyone. This is the final post of PSISLY for this year.
A lot has happened in the past few months since I wrote this fic. I had a lot more to say, but I kept on erasing them, mulling over the right words, wondering if I should raise the issue or not. But for the sake of leaving matters behind on 2020, and giving 2021 a better start, I decided to break my silence.
Perhaps some of you have read my previous announcement about the password change of the private blog, and also noticed I started adding timestamps to my written works for the sake of protecting them. I said in that post that the matter was already resolved around that time, and it was...or so I thought. Needless to say, my concern with the party involved was promised to be dealt with once they come back and have things sorted out for themselves. However, that was not what happened once they came back. Instead, I received very alarming messages. I felt unsafe. Even now, I feel fearful of sharing anything relating to writing and my personal life on social media. I had long since blocked them after their threats and toxic behaviour, but writing nor going online never felt the same. And I was rarely online in the first place.
The concern was about the possibility of my private blog ideas being copied with little to no changes. And upon further investigation (one I discovered in the aftermath of blocking them), scenes and parts of PSISLY were possibly plagiarised with dates and evidences to back up my suspicions.
A lot of things also happened that can only be summarised by that person going against what we have already discussed. I had expressed my discomforts with interacting with them in our exchange (tl;dr, they cannot give me reasons or explanations for the concerns I raised with them) which led them to say that we can settle things when...things get better on their end. It never did. Instead, I felt threatened, belittled and disrespected. I was guilt-tripped over being protective of my work, accused of things I never said, and many other unspeakable things I have realised were the person's possible attempts to manipulate me and my feelings. I never wished ill on them, and only wanted to clear up any possible misunderstanding we were having. Our talks were peaceful at first, until I asked about some contradictions in their statements, as well as the evidences they have given me. Now that they had made their feelings public, as well as the issues we dealt with on the sidelines, I felt like the only way for me to have my peace is to also share my side. My wish is only this. I do not wish to disclose their identity at all, but only to raise the question, 'why?' 'where did it go wrong'? And 'how can I move on from this?' And this is my answer. I do not wish to air out these matters in here so if you want a more detailed account of what happened, please go to this link.
If you noticed a dip in my writing, then perhaps this is the reason. I worked really hard on this series and researched a LOT, outlined and revised so many ideas and scenes and the thought of someone possibly stealing them and getting credit over them just makes me feel sick to my stomach. Despite that, I want to finish this work. I cannot give up on it. I refuse to give up on it because I know I only did what I think was right. I never wanted to hurt anyone.
I am not perfect. But I tried my best to be neutral and objective when listening to them. I'd like to think I asserted myself in a way that was respectful and polite. When I felt like they aren't doing the same, I blocked them and moved on...but the damage was already done.
Again, I didn't post this to disclose their identity but to do what they did, and get closure. I wanted to be honest with all of you and give you a general idea of how stressful this situation was and how it affected my writing. Worse that it happened while I am not in the best...situation RL. Even as I'm writing this, I'm trying to make sense of everything.
So...this is mostly the reason for the fic delays. I am still interested with finishing this work, but my situation right now along with this is making it harder to keep my focus. I'll do my best though!
I don't really ask for anything besides your support and understanding. I'm trying my best to get over this issue. Just...thank you I guess? This series must be really confusing and convoluted to read, but thank you anyway for taking the time to read it. :)
On a lighter note, I have some other less...depressing announcements.
Author's identity might have already been heavily hinted, but the surprises do not stop there! The next route spans the final arc and the true ending. To anyone interested in Lucifer's ending and Barbatos' route, I highly advise reading Mammon's and Satan's route first to gain a better understanding of the story.
New features of the CYOA exclusive only to the final arc will be added. Estimated release should probably be around February or March, depending on when I finish the outline.
Hamartia 4 and 5 will also be posted a few hours after this message is published due to the current circumstances this series is facing. I can only provide snippets of it for now, as well as unbeta'd summaries, so some parts of the story may change as I finish Hamartia 2. The tags however, won't change as much, so if you want to know how 4 and 5's story will go, you can take a look at the tags and see a general idea of the plot. You may also unlock more information about the future works in the Hamartia Series once the private blog reopens/ once PSISLY ends.
Finally, I had been mulling over a tumblr crosspost for this series for a while now. However, the formatting for it eludes me. If any tumblr savvy people are out there and want to help, please message me on my writing sideblog which you can find on my AO3 profile.
Happy new year, everyone! May 2021 be kinder to all of us. ^^

Tumblr Sticky
Update: NOTHING IS ABANDONED. 😂😭 (I promise.)
Fandom blog, filled with shameless shipping. Mostly drarry, but with lively splashes of Lamen, Ineffable Husbands, and Wangxian, as well as anything I find important, or… just trash that amuses me. (If I have to suffer amusement on hellsite, I don’t see why I should do it alone.)
Fandom writing can be found via the link in my header or under the “my writing” tag. If you’re here to ask to use my fics in your own creations (headcanons, podfics, translations, remixes, any form of art 😍), feel free to consider this my blanket permission statement! I do ask, however, that you don’t copy/screenshot/repost my works, and would love it if you let me know just so I can gush at you over it.
Personally, my rl can be hectic and I’m more than a little introverted, but I do go through streaks of wanting to socialize. Asks are open, though they frequently get eaten by the tumblr gods, and I love being tagged in things — please forgive me if I don’t see it or immediately respond.
Black Lives Matter. Trans lives matter. I’m generally anti-anti, but if you think those are controversial statements, this is not the blog for you. Otherwise, it’s good to have you here. ❤
Works In Progress count, for those who are interested, under the cut:
Good lord.
In The Dark will resume posting once I’ve completed the fic. My apologies for the delays. (A more detailed explanation can be found under my ‘In The Dark’ tag.)
Drarry: 7; 1 of which was 2/3 finished two weeks ago, and is now 1/2 finished. (I swear it’s progress! lol).
Assorted HP (Pansmione, Next Gen, Cross Gen): 4
Ineffable Husbands: 2
Wangxian: 6 (*laughs; cries*)
Yizhan: 2

Confession- I will NEVER understand why fans of things are SO DEFENSIVE about authors/actors/artists/etc of said thing seeing their fan content. This is basically how the scenario appears, to me at least:
Person A: "I like this thing you made, Person B!"
Person B: "Aw gee, thanks!"
The next day...
Person B: "Ayo Person A, I saw you wrote an in-depth analysis of the thing I made an also a lot of funny jokes about it and proceeded to post about it on an openly public social media website (that I, as one member of the general public, have access to) and I just wanna talk about that-"
Person A: "WWHAT. NO. DNI. DO NOT INTERACT. Did I SAY you could talk about my blog like that?1? This is Mine. i DON'T want people to see it >:( you have violated my boundaries (that are hidden away in a caard that requires far too many clicks to get through for every person interacted with on the internet) and invaded my privacy that is just simply not okay. Stay away from tumblr!! how did you even FIND it???"
Person B: "Oh, uh.. you tagged it... using the system to help people find stuff about the topic... and I searched that tag?"
Person A: "UHHH That was BEFORE i knew YOU were going to see it or search that tag!"
Like... why is it assumed that as soon as someone creates something and makes it public that suddenly means that it belongs to the internet and the fandom and that no one is allowed to see or talk about it elsewhere??
If you don't want people seeing your posts, let me help:
Customized Tags- instead of tagging "reading list", tag "#Person A's Reading List lolzies" or even just "#PerA RL" because ain't nobody searching that shit but you. Because if you tag "#Reading List", anyone who searches tumblr for "reading list" could potentially see your stuff. (added bonus that if your followers want to blacklist that tag because they don't care for it, it just tell them/post that you use that as your tag for the thing! instead of you not posting it, or them unfollowing you, it's an easy work-around that benefits both parties!)
PRIVATE YOUR BLOG- seriously, you don't have to be seen by ANYONE on this website if you don't want to, or only certain friends! I have linked a tutorial, but if you're afraid of links or w/e simply GOOGLE IT
Post privately- again, you can make any post private! See here (sorry mobile users idk how to do it but I'M CERTAIN THERE'S A WAY)
Tumblr media
Quit getting mad at creators for seeing/sharing the things you publicly post related to their content. It's absolutely okay to not want people to see the things you post, if you are young then especially so! But you have to curate your own online experience because the world will not do it for you, and that includes the content you put online.
ALSO!! This ties into the fact that if you're posting immoral things that you don't want the creators to see because it breaks their boundaries or something, here's a newsflash- YOU CAN'T VIOLATE BOUNDARIES OR LAWS OR COMMON COURTESY JUST BECAUSE YOU WRONGFULLY ASSUME NO ONE WILL SEE THE THINGS YOU POST (or that specifically affected people won't). YOU JUST SHOULDN'T DO THAT, ACTUALLY! It's impossible to know who will or won't see what you post on the internet- on a blog, on twitter, even in super speedy instant chat messages full of 1000s of people spamming.
So think before you post, dammit. Rant over.

Hiya!
My name is Morgana, and I'm a trans girl who streams on twitch! That's right, I'm an epic gamer girl 🏳️‍⚧️🇦🇷🏳️‍⚧️!
I play lot of Roguelikes, rpgs (I'm a huge Final Fantasy nerd), and I play a ton of Pokemon (i was raised on Poketubers and it shows😳). I also like to do art streams where i just draw and talk with chat and listen to music and have a chill time!
I'm at 41 followers, so I'm 9 away from reaching Affiliate so I can start making money (can't believe eating costs money smh my head🙄😔). But more importantly I want to build a community. I average 4 viewers and last night was the first time in months i got 0 viewers, and i literally cried. Anyway no more $ad-g!rl hours, time for the plugging.
Tumblr hates links and hates me even more, so my twitch link is in my bio/pinned, I'll try to put my other socials there but if i can't my Twitter is @itsmemordred and my pinned there has all of my socials. I'm a funny jokes girl on Tiktok (once again @itsmemordred) and have a youtube with the same name for vods.
If anyone can come on out I'd appreciate it greatly I have all of the chill vibes to offer. I stream at 9:30 pm pst most nights. Once again any follows/views/reblogs would be great!
Stay gaming friends 👍

Team Free Will Big Bang FAQ and Rules 2021
Rules
You must be aged 18 or over upon registration in order to take part in this bang. If you lie about your age, you will be banned from all future TFW Big Bangs and other events run by this bang’s mods.
Authors, Artists and Betas will be sent a confirmation email within 48 hours of signing up. You must reply to this email to complete sign up.
What do I create?
Authors:
A story of a minimum of 15,000 words (big bang).
Or a story of a minimum of 5000 words (mini bang).
The story must feature Team Free Will (Dean, Sam and Cas) at the center of the story or Team Free Will 2.0 (Dean, Sam, Cas and Jack).
Or be a real person fanfic (RPF) featuring Jared, Jensen and Misha at the center of the story (Alexander Calvert can also be included as a central character if you so desire).
No story may feature anyone under the age of 16 in an explicit sexual situation, this rises to 18 for RPF.
Your story must be posted in full on your assigned posting day.
See further in the FAQ for more details.
Artists:
For a big bang: a cover and two pieces of art connected to the fic (cover can be derived from main art).
For a mini bang: a cover and a piece of art connected to the fic (cover can be derived from main art).
No art may feature anyone under the age of 18 in an explicit sexual situation.
No explicit art may be posted to Tumblr.
No art can be made of photo manipulations.
Note that this bang runs a no fic left behind policy.
See further in the FAQ for more details
Authors must not discuss their stories publicly on places like social media or Discord servers before claims, unless it is in vague terms to secure a beta reader. You may discuss your story with your beta reader and on the TFWBB Discord server.
All authors and artists must familiarize themselves with the bang schedule.
All authors and artists must make attempts to regularly communicate with each other once paired.
For those taking part, we have created a Discord server. Details about this are available upon bang sign-up.
For more in-depth information on how to be a good bang participant: check out this post on allspnships.
FAQ
What are the differences between mini and big bangs?
Basically how long your story is. The Big Bang has a minimum of 15,000 words, and will receive a minimum of two art pieces from the artist plus a fic cover, while the Minibang has a minimum of 5,000 words, and will receive a cover and at least one piece of art.
Do covers have to be completely separate pieces of art from the rest of the bang’s art?
Covers can be remixes of art already created for the fic. But they need to feature the fic title, the names of the artist and the author(s).
How/where do I submit my draft?
We will provide details about this directly to creators nearer posting time.
How long does my story need to be?
You have two options: for a Big Bang, you need a minimum of 15,000 words. For a Minibang, you need at least 5,000.
What does the focus of my story need to be?
Your story must focus on all three members of Team Free Will: Dean, Sam, and Castiel. This means the story can be Dean/Sam, Dean/Cas, Sam/Cas, Sam/Dean/Cas or gen. If you choose a two-person pairing, the third character must be an equal focus on the story.
We won’t be counting words, but please try to stay within the spirit of the challenge. This is about celebrating Team Free Will characters, so have fun with them.
Since 2018, we have accepted interpretations of Team Free Will that include Jack Kline (Team Free Will 2.0), but everyone must still have equal importance in your story.
Team Free Love (Sam/Castiel/Dean/Gabriel) is not accepted for this bang.
Reader inserts are not accepted for this bang.
We will allow pairings where the four are with other characters, such as Sam/Eileen or Dean/Gabriel, BUT that pairing cannot be the main focus of the story.
Are AUs, crossovers and fusions allowed?
Yes, all are allowed. However, the more obscure the other fandom, the harder finding an artist who knows both will be, so keep that in mind.
What about RPF?
RPF is welcome, but must focus on Jared, Misha, Jensen and (if you want) Alexander, and their relationships with each other. So any combination of these four is welcome, as is a gen RPF where no one’s together. Everyone of these three (or four) needs equal weight in your plot.
What about underage?
Please ensure that all fanfic doesn’t include under 16s depicted in sexual situations—this raises to 18 for RPF. Basically, off the page is fine, but not on the page. All explicit art can only feature characters aged 18 and upwards.
Is it okay to write a sequel or prequel to an existing fic?
No, it needs to be a completely new story.
Can I sign up as both an author and an artist?
Yes, but you cannot claim your own fic.
Can I create additional art for my fic/have other artists make banners and art?
Not until a year after your post date.
May I do photo manipulations for art?
Due to issues of quality with manips in previous years, we have decided that photo manipulations are no longer welcome in the Team Free Will Big Bang.
May I do paper art or use alternative physical mediums like textiles or clay?
Yes.
Covers—can they feature explicit art?
Due to masterposts being posted on Tumblr, covers cannot feature explicit imagery.
Will there be promos? Can I advertise my fic on my Tumblr, Pillowfort, Dreamwidth, Twitter, etc?
There will be a formal promo period available to you during August, once posting dates are known. Promos will be promoted on all our blogs and Twitter. Details on how to promo will be made available in August.
Please do not promote stories ahead of this. You will be welcome to reblog/retweet your promos from our official blogs and Twitter.
Where do I post my fic/art when it’s complete?
All fics must be posted to AO3 and made live on your posting date, with the art embedded in the appropriate scenes if the artist allows.
All art must have a masterpost on either Dreamwidth, Pillowfort, AO3, or Tumblr made live on your posting day. Remember that explicit art should not be posted to Tumblr, unless it is extensively censored.
On or before your posting day, both links must be submitted in a post to the TFW Big Bang Dreamwidth, Pillowfort community and/or Tumblr blog. We will share the posting format nearer the time of posting. We will check over the masterpost, and make it public on the appropriate day on all platforms.
Do I need to link back to my artist’s master art post on my AO3 story?
Yes, all stories must have a link that goes to the art masterpost made by your artist. We advise you add this link in your notes using HTML like:
Tumblr media
Will there be an AO3 collection for posted fics and art?
You will be able to add your fics and art to the moderated collection via: tfw_bb_2021.
Do I need a Dreamwidth/Pillowfort/Tumblr/AO3 account to participate?
Artists should have at least one to post their art to, and authors should have at least AO3 to post their fic to. No account besides an email address is required for claims.
Masterpost submissions to Pillowfort or Dreamwidth will require an account on the service you want to use. Tumblr may be submitted to without an account. Submit the fic and art masterpost to your preferred platform and it will be crossposted by the mods.
Due to changes in LiveJournal’s terms of service in April 2017, the bang is no longer being actively run on LJ, though may be promoted there.
Can I write more than one story/collaborate on a story?
Each author can write only one story for this challenge. You are welcome to collaborate on a story, but that counts as your one story.
Can I claim more than one fic to make art for?
The first round of claiming will allow artists to claim only one story. If there are still unclaimed stories 24 hours after the claiming begins, we’ll open a second round for artists to claim a second piece or for artists who didn’t originally sign up to participate. If artists drop out after assignments are set, artists can pinch hit as well regardless of whether they’re already assigned one story.
What do I need to provide for claims?
Fic writers will need to provide drafts that are at least 80% complete (with a beginning, middle and (almost an) end) for claims, along with a summary. Specifics on how to do this will be shared via email ahead of the submissions date.
We will not accept drafts that fail to meet this criteria, as it’s not fair on artists.
What is “no fic left behind”?
If an artist fails to meet art draft check-ins, providing proof of art, when required: they will be removed from the bang and a new artist found for the affected bang story.
The only exception to this is those affected by extenuating circumstances who manage to communicate with their author or the mods—in this instance an extension will be given.
What if something happens in RL and I need to post on a different day or get an extension, or something?
Contact the mods, or get your teammate to contact the mods, or get a friend to contact the mods. Stuff happens and we don’t want our bang to be an extra stress, but you need to let us know that you need help so that we can help you. We can be pretty flexible, so please don’t worry and get in touch. You can reach us at teamfreewillbigbang(at)gmail(dot)com.
How will claims work?
There will be a preview doc with each summary posted at least 48 hours before claims and emailed to artists who have already signed up. When claims open, we will email a link to a Google Form where we’ll ask you to resubmit some of your artist details and your top five picks for doing art. We’ll update the preview summaries with notes on fics as they’re assigned.
Do writers need beta readers?
Yes, all fic needs to be beta read for at least spelling, punctuation and grammar.
If you don’t have a beta reader, you can try asking someone from our beta list to beta for you.
Ask on /r/fandomnatural or you can check out our list of beta readers for the bang. Details of this list will be emailed to authors once available.
May I post a WIP?
Works in progress (WIP) are not permitted to be posted for this bang. Fics must be posted complete (i.e. no serial posting).
You didn’t answer my question
Please contact hit_the_books,majesticduxk and fogsrollingin at teamfreewillbigbang(at)gmail(dot)com.

Stolen Art PSA
Tumblr media
Please help share this around to get this guy's page down on Amazon for art theft towards countless artists.
Quite pissed off at the moment. Rather unimpressed to find my RedBubble mug design on Amazon being sold by someone else named Zaroe on Amazon.
So far it is only one design/product from my RB page stolen, but knowing that someone else is making money off my work is what bothers me. I hardly make enough money anyways, so for me it's every penny counts while I'm job hunting. Just to let you guys know, RedBubble does not allow our products to be sold through third party companies according to their policy since they support freelance.
I posted the design on October 2017 on my RedBubble and the Amazon seller posted it September this year. I never got any new notifications about a sell except for my mother purchasing two mugs (in case one breaks) last year. Here's the links below to see:
Amazon:
www.amazon.com/zaroe-Lunalunes…
Tumblr media
RedBubble:
www.redbubble.com/people/lunal…
Tumblr media
According to my RL friends, the seller also sells other stolen designs by different artists. The guy could be scamming people or actually stealing work from other artists to make money based upon other people's hard work.
What I am asking is to help report them.
I already reported for my stolen design, but I am unsure if Amazon will even look at this. For other artists that got their work stolen as well, help report this guy so his page can be taken down and not damage our IP and being entrepreneurs following our passions.
Right now I'm really pissed off, feeling fucking useless that all I can do is just report. That's it. Just report and wait... and then probably have to do it again until he's taken down. Just wondering how and why. This guy could have just copy and pasted photos of our work from RedBubble and it's bad enough that they may not even have a physical product and just scam any unsuspecting people who want to purchase the stolen works and not get anything in return.
Despite already reporting him, I honestly don't know what else to do except for making a PSA and ask people to also help report and take his page down to not harm more artists.
TEMPLATE TO CONTACT ORIGINAL ARTISTS:
If you find the original artist on RedBubble, please send them this message to let them know that their artwork has been stolen with the link to the stolen art. This art thief has 95 pages worth of stolen art and I can’t do this alone. Some artists disabled sending messages, so if you can not send the message, share the PSA. I've already added the codes and links in the template below, all you need to do is add the artwork title and amazon link AND remove the parenthesis.
Hello,
Two days ago LunaLunestia and her friends found stolen artwork on Amazon being sold by a seller named *zaroe or also known as Guernred Store Storefront.* This person has stolen countless designs from RedBubble including your "(ADD ARTWORK TITLE)":(AMAZON LINK TO STOLEN ART) design. Just to let you know, all links within illustration titles lead to the stolen design on Amazon.
How did we find out? One of the artist, LunaLunestia's friends decided to search her username on Amazon and discovered my "Follow the Leader":https://www.amazon.com/zaroe-Lunalunestia-110z-Mugs/dp/B07L7QK3TL/ref=sr_1_1?m=A288SJTEBG16YX&s=merchant-items&ie=UTF8&qid=1546204058&sr=1-1&keywords=lunalunestia design She posted on Redbubble is also being sold by the very same seller. Upon doing more research, they found that this seller has over 95 pages of stolen artwork, particularly from here on RedBubble as they have recognized some designs.
You can file for "Claim Copyright Infringment":https://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html/ref=help_search_1-1?ie=UTF8&nodeId=201995100&qid=1546154520&sr=1-1 from Amazon's online forum in the title link. Just to let you know it's a rinse and repeat process and you may have to do this weekly to have Amazon remove your stolen design from zaroe aka Guernred Store Storefront.
Best Wishes, (YOUR NAME OR USERNAME)
PS: LunaLunestia also created a PSA about this on her Twitter and Tumblr, help by sharing the PSA around social media. It'll be great help for it to reach out the other artists affected by this massive art theft that we are unaware of or could not contact. https://twitter.com/LunaLunestia/status/1078802402453700608 http://lunalunestia.tumblr.com/post/181501982376/stolen-art-psa

👽 + Do you ever post selfies on tumblr (or any other social media) or are you too shy? And one more: Would you ever want to meet one of your rp partners in real life?
Send 👽+ ANY question you want to ask the mun!
Thanks for sending some!
Actually no, I don’t post selfies anywhere! I don’t even do selifes, to be honest - the only pictures that exist of me is when other people want to take some with me, or maybe when I ask someone to take a picture when I really like an outfit (or a cosplay I did, but I haven’t done that in a good while). The closest to a seflie that I once posted was a picture of my hair - which likely won’t be happening again though (I can try to search it out and link you to it if you want, it should still be somewhere on my blog) unless maybe if I actually ever do manage to get the wonderful awesome bright red that I’d love to have.
I wouldn’t say I’m too shy for it, I just don’t see the reason to share my face with the world. For one, I don’t consider myself ‘pretty’ enough (rather the opposite), and two, I’ve been raised with awareness of identity in the internet - which includes not sharing pictures.
Meeting my RP partners in RL, well... I don’t think I’d have any use of it, so I don’t think I want it. Like, to give a non-RP-partner example, I have one really really really good friend (I’d say they are my best friend, but I don’t think I’m their best friend in return - which is fine though, I just have next to no friends so my only friend is also my best friend xD) and soon we know each other - only online - for 10 years. I’m considering to finally meet them somehow by the time we reach 10 years, which I am excited for, but that’s my very best friend! I was never one to be good at talking much or the stale sitting somewhere to just... idk, exchange stories or whatever friends do when they meet; so I tend to assume that meeting someone would only make it worse than it was before. I’m better in the world of online, I think.

ok anon, please show me
if you keep coming back to tell me about these people who you seem to feel strongly about, id ask you to show me any of the stuff you’re talking about if you want to convince me its problematic to reblog anything of theirs.
you can either shoot me a screencap with their visible username and date of their post/tweet you take issue with via my submit (change to ‘photo’ top left), you can drop me just the link to their post/tweet there as well - if you want to send a submit as non-tumblr user/anon tumblr requires an email adress, but you can make up anything if you dont want to use your actual email -
or if you want to stick to asks, you can just name their twitter handle or tumblr name as you’ve done in your last message and then just give me the number at the end of their tweet/post url (e.g. https://twitter.com/BradleyJames/status/1123578866935783427 or https://brolinskeep.tumblr.com/post/184689818650) then i go find them myself.
full disclosure here: since my last public post in response to your previous message the tumblr user you mention has reached out to me after seeing my post. based on the as vague as possible clues i mentioned in my post they guessed what you and i were talking about and objected to what you’ve told me. since they talked to me about this without being prompted/asked by me and doing so ‘in person’ (as ‘in person’ as you can on social media with who knows how many thousand miles between our physical locations), im more inclined to believe them until you show me otherwise.
if you chose to do so, ill update this post with my final thoughts on this matter, so you can bookmark this one without having to search my blog for a new post, and i dont have to bother other ppl with our back and forth showing up on their dashboards.
ps: please give me a few days to review and update this post if you send me anything. RL is busy and fandom fest deadlines are breathing down my neck as well

I just went through my Dreamwidth and added back people who added me (I admit, I am still shaky on the difference between “subscribe” and “grant access”, like intellectually I get it but LJ didn’t make that distinction so I don’t have it engrained in my understanding, and so thusfar I’ve got everyone both), but part of what i also did was removing the access I granted when I auto-imported LJ a decade ago.
And let me tell you, it was sad, clicking on some of those names. Some were, like, RL lovers of decades gone by, and like, college friends, and people who didn’t make the transition-- when LJ went to shit, they just drifted offline. Some of them, I’ve since found on FB, or Instagram, or elsewhere-- but many of them are just, poof, gone. And that’s sad, so I had a little mourning session over that.
I’ve been searching people on DW as I scroll my feed and see them mention their handles, and so I’ve been trying to add them-- but all the people mentioning Pillowfort logins, well, I can’t do that now, and I didn’t think to make, like, a text file or something. So you’re all gone to me, like tears in rain. Please, please, search for me when the site comes back up, because if you told me your handle but there was no link, I couldn’t find you, and now I don’t remember what you said.
And it strikes me-- well, I’ve left all my Facebooking and Instagramming separate from my fannishness, mostly, though I’ve linked to it from here. So fannish people have found me there sometimes, and I like that and I add you back and all. But I don’t ever post anything fannish there. (It may have become apparent in the last year or so that honestly, I was never a very fannish person; I like to write fic because it gets engagement, but I never was big on it before Tumblr, and I’m sliding back into original stuff because I just can’t sustain being a fan of a canon that doesn’t love me, you know? and that’s all canons I didn’t invent.)
It’s not fandoms I care about. People list their fandoms in their profiles, and on DW it’s been fascinating seeing those of you who created those accounts five, ten years ago, who had interests I would never have thought, because you’ve changed-- it’s not fandoms at all, though I’ve found a lot of things that way. It’s the transformative aspects, and appreciative aspects, and just-- it’s how you, as a person, with a mind, and a set of experiences, intersect with a fandom, and the fandom part is just the hook. I don’t care what you’re into. I just want to find minds I can connect with, and watch you react to things, because I am a social animal and that’s how humans work.
ANYWAY-- slightly redundant, but here’s the meat:
I’ll link my FB and Insta here too-- just be aware, there’s basically only farm content, there. I don’t even talk about politics much, and I never talk about fandom. And i don’t really post on Twitter, I only retweet.
So here’s the master list. Please, please, please, Pillowfort people especially, if you told me your handle I don’t know it. I need you to reach out to me, I will not find you. I have no capacity to remember things. But feel free to find me anywhere else I am. Just understand, I don’t need you to show your love by posting about my fanfiction in front of my mother, lol. (She wouldn’t care, which would probably devastate me, which is why I’ve never mentioned it. Listen I don’t talk about my interests at all with RL people, I can’t even explain that.)
ME ON THE INTERNET: Dreamwidth: dragonlady7 (at the moment, my feed is ugly, because I’ve had Tumblr set up crossposting there forever, and the crossposter doesn’t work well, but I don’t want to dismantle it until I’m sure I won’t put anything more original on Tumblr.) Twitter: dragonladyB17 AO3: bomberqueen17 Pillowfort: bomberqueen17 but I don’t know how their links format argh! here’s a link to a random post of mine i could pull from email. Find me there.  Instagram: bomberqueen17 Facebook: my boring-ass government name, with a caveat-- i use FB only to crosspost from Instagram, and I do not actually browse my friends feed, ever. Also I never installed Messenger, so it doesn’t notify me about DMs out of spite, so I don’t see them in any kind of timely fashion. It also doesn’t like to notify me about comments, but it emails me six times a day letting me know vague acquaintances from roller derby have made personal updates since I last logged in. I hate Facebook but only on a corporate level; I don’t read it enough to hate the people I know on it. BUT if you’re not going to be anywhere else, you can find me there, and when the dust settles, ask me where I live online.
I won’t be deleting my Tumblr, and I’ll probably keep using it a while, just like I did LJ-- I’ll drift away once a sufficient mass of you has formed elsewhere to entertain me, though likely there’ll be a dead phase where I just have no online friends, and that’s that. So there’s time. If time passes and you realize I’m not following you, wherever you are, please do drop me a line on Tumblr.

fireeaglespirit said: This is like a global trend. We were right.. BTW how is the brexit thing going? Are people around you happy about it?
Okay before I start this I will just say - I don’t intend to do this often as I and others come to this part of tumblr/fandom as an escape from RL and Politics.
Also this is my opinion so I’m not tagging it in the main tags but if it does get there then I’m not apologising for it as it’s from my observations and research.
Okay briefly...this sums Brexit up and the depths (avoidable depths) to which it will sink -
Tumblr media
As for the question you had about what people around me think...it’s honestly hard to get a real definitive answer as so many are in their own echo chambers and each camp has their own news sources and spin that has of course been mercilessly used by nefarious groups to continue to confuse and split people and generate apathy and despair.
However what IS clear is that it is a complete shambles (as we predicted), many people want a People’s Vote and I believe a majority (I hope) would vote Remain (in the EU). The issues are that Government (despite being crazy, weak and likely traitors in some form or another  - by inaction if nothing else) can’t seem to be stopped because the Opposition is also divided and led by someone  - Jeremy Corbyn - who I used to have a lot of respect for as a man of principle and the people, but who now has been shown to be backward, stubborn and small minded in his views and surrounds himself with Yes men. This has been frustrating in previous years but when this crucial vote has clearly been illegally funded and manipulated by R*ssia and the Far Right and only they and elitist hedge-fund managers are profiting, then I feel it is a complete dereliction of duty on behalf of Corbyn and as such I now want him gone. There is also disturbing links between a senior advisor of his and R*ssia and these have yet to be investigated (nothing is being f*cking investigated like it is in the US) and I don’t think Corbyn is a traitor, I do think his character means he can be manipulated (a bit like Eddard Stark if you will.)
I know his and his camps argument (although they are not being honest about it) is that they think the EU is bad for rebuilding Britain on socialist lines and they want to take into account the many dis-enfranchised parts who vote to Leave. I know the EU isn’t perfect and I also believe in idealist causes like dismantling Capitalism - I’ve created both a social enterprise model and a storytelling model to help do that - but when a) the result was done illegally b) it directly helps R*ssia, the Far Right, Trump etc and c)puts us in such a terrible position then that is not the way to go.
The previous (decent) Foreign Secretary David Miliband made a great point that basically this ‘taking back control’ nonsense is a fantasy. However they see it there are undeniable facts in the world today - there are 3 main trading  law-makers - EU, the US and China. If you aren’t a lawmaker then you are a lawtaker - the UK will have to take what it is given and will have given away all its power - fact. Plus I don’t want chlorinated chicken from the US just cos Tory scum are making fat-cat deals with Trump. Seriously these people would sell their own grandmas to make a profit!
Another thing is the despair we feel. It’s like we can’t do anything against this runaway train. All the elements in the US that are being investigated by Mueller are present here in the UK and in fact Bannon said they used Brexit as a petri dish for Trump. But we have no Mueller, and we have no Blue Wave Democrats now elected to hold our shit government to account as they get progressively worse and worse. Some people try their best but it’s not enough.
I really hope that things take a change for the better. I try and see it as the Hegelian dialectic I talked to you about or the Alchemical stages of Nigredo and Albedo when the two opposites come up and fight only to be transmuted into something better. As a Jungian I have seen the beginnings of that in the world and in my dreams so I have faith but it is very hard, hard because all this is avoidable but these people on all sides are pushing us towards this terrible own goal.
Finally I just feel so sad because so many here saw this in 2016 and voted Remain. My generation in particular (who will be the worst affected) overwhelmingly sees itself as European and I and many feel this awful Tory party have treated our colleagues and allies in Europe shamefully. TBH I think they have dealt with the UK with a lot more grace and respect than they deserve but I stress so many of us did not and do not want this to happen. All I can say is that P*tin must be laughing so hard at all this - well played - very Caesar divide and conquer.
Anyway I try not to think about it too much and just do what I can do day to day. In my deepest heart I do feel that this is part of a world transformation  - the bad is being exposed and hopefully transmuted but it will take time and a lot of pain that could have been avoided. Until then I will keep one of the British things I am proud of - our self deprecating humour. It has had a lot of chances to be exercised in the last couple of years!

Hello internet
This is my very first post to Tumblr. First some notes....
1. I do not *do* social media. I love to read stuff posted, I love to look at pictures showcased. But I don’t post socially.
2. I started this so I could take part in Adrinette April 2019 (I hope I got the tag correct)
3. This is all for Miraculous: The Tales of Ladybug and Cat Noir. I came late to the fandom (last fall) and fell in love with the show.
4. I will honestly try to reply to anyone who asks questions.
5. I may or may not reblog. I’m probably not gonna post much myself other than my stories.
6. I have fanfiction.net and AO3 accounts.      -  wolfyred  -    for both.
7. My lovely husband and daughter are my beta readers. My daughter also does the art for me.
8. I’m old and set in my ways. :) This means that I will have 90 to 100% of stories finished before I will post anything. Personally in my past I’ve read so many comics, stories and blogs where rl gets in the way and they just can’t continue that I want to avoid that if I can. I have 1 story that I’ve been posting 1 chapter a week. I have the whole thing done, I just want to make it last. Also a week between gives me a chance to triple check what I’m posting next and make changes if needed.
9. Being set in my ways, the way I learned creative writing (so long ago) in highschool was that there is only 1 set of author notes. Either at the beginning of a book or at the end. If I’m going to have A/N that’s where they will be. I will not be doing that stuff each chapter.
10. I’m hoping to have fun here.
11. If people say my chapters are too short or too long, if they keep asking for an update earlier than I’m ready for.... it will be ignored.
12. Please review and critique me if you want. Stuff that will help me improve will be absorbed and hopefully used in later stories.
13. You have a choice regarding my work. I’m putting it up here for anyone to read. If you don’t like what I am writing, if it “triggers” you, if I’m not telling the story in the way you want it to go, then I am sorry that you are not enjoying yourself but, you are free to not read my work. You are free to read someone else’s work. You do not have the right to demand that I not write about certain things and expect me to comply. You do not have the right to tell me to use a certain style and expect me to comply.  You do not have the right to demand that I change the story into something you want and have me comply. You have the right to not to continue to read my work.
14. I hope people won’t steal my work. But, let’s face it, somewhere, somewhen, down the road, someone will try. If you want to reblog my work, then please go ahead. If you want to link to my work, please go ahead. If you want to post my work to your site, my request is this, “Give credit where credit is due”. I write the stories, and so far, my daughter does the art. (I’ll let you know if someone else does the art at any point)
15. I trust that if you like my work you will press that like button on your own. Or the share button, or the whatever button. I really hate the videos that keep saying that all the time. I don’t want to beg for like. If you like it, you like it, if you don’t, you don’t.
With all that said, please enjoy what I post if you can.

This is my entry for @whopooh‘s questions for fic writers! Thank you for developing this amazing questionnaire, it was very insightful and interesting to answer.
I debated whether to answer these, but 2 out of 5 of my answers are Miss Fisher related and I have posted 1 Miss Fisher fic so far, so technically I’m good to answer these, according to the guidelines. Even if I do feel like I’m totally butting in, because I haven’t written for this fandom for as long as others and also I don’t tend to talk about my writing on tumblr much. Still, the questions were really good and I wanted to add my little contribution, so I hope that’s ok. It’s under “read more” because of length. Even if I probably don’t share all the fandoms included here with all of my followers, maybe some things are of interest and some of you, who also write (not only fanfiction, but anything at all) can relate to some of this. Sharing writing experiences is always interesting.
1. Pick one fic that you’ve written and talk about what makes it important to you.
My Les Mis mutant AU The Downfall of the Juillet Institute is probably the most important I’ve written personally, even if it’s not my favorite. It was well received by readers, though, which is good for a fic that’s so personal.
The main reason why it’s important to me is because it was there for me during some pretty heavy times, when a lot of things were happening and my life changed dramatically. In the middle of chaos, that fic was there. And I, the person who never writes chaptered fics because she thinks she’ll never finish them, had all the excuses to leave it unfinished. But I didn’t. I had a lot of encouragement and also very patient readers, and ultimately something very interesting happened.
I started it with the intention of pushing myself to do in fic writing what I tend to do in personal writing. I don’t tend to use fic in the same way, I normally write fic to fulfill or add something I would have wanted to see in canon, but rarely I go as deep into it as I do in my personal writing, but not because I think it’s not worthy (it absolutely is! fanfiction is very important!). I had this idea that my fic writing and my personal writing were two completely separate things, with different reasons, motives and even languages (my original writing is in Spanish, my native language, and my fics tend to be in English, and I swear I feel my writing style is extremely different in both). I felt for a very long time that it had to be this way, because some things I had to “save” for one form of writing or the other, but in the end both are much more related than I thought and a lot of things I ended up including in my personal writing (I don’t want to call it “original” writing because there’s originality in fics as well) ended up being there because I integrated them first in my fics and worked through them there.
With my mutant AU, though, I blurred the lines. I made an oath to push my fic writing to be more like my personal and create a story from the ground up with my own world-building in a complex setting (in sci fi, no less, which isn’t normally what I write), to include strong heavy emotional elements I don’t tend to include, and, to top it all off, to start posting it without having completely finished it. It was a gamble of massive proportions.
I ended up learning more about my own writing process from this fic than I had with some of the creative writing workshops I’ve done. When all the issues started happening in my life, I found myself having to face this monster and some of the stuff I had set myself to include became triggering for me. So I had to find a way in which I could write it all and see it through. The fic helped me work through some heavy stuff and it ended up being an ideal place to project some of my issues and transform them into something new.
I’m very grateful to that fic and very proud still today of having finished it. And even if some days I’m embarrassed of some of the ways in which I handled some stuff or some of the choices I made, I will always regard it with respect.
2. Pick one of your older fics and say what about it you like most, and what you would do differently now.
I deleted every fic in my old fanfiction.net account and all traces of my young self in there, so I’m not linking it, but I had written once a ficlet in which I explored the different perspectives of the Black sisters from Harry Potter, Narcissa, Andromeda and Bellatrix. It was a bit lackluster, my English wasn’t the best (I hope it’s better now, who knows, not me), but the concept was rare for me at the time and I think it was a baby step towards my fascination with character archetypes and female representation in media. I had written plenty of HP fics before, but that one was a rarity and something that caught my attention at the time, how little we really knew of them individually and in comparison with each other.
I think what I’d do differently now is a) fix the English grammar and b) go a bit deeper into each of them while also re-thinking my stance on some of my perceptions of them as women. I grew up and I see some things under a different light now, but I still feel strongly that it’s a worthy character analysis to do. I feel I was too tentative with it back then because I knew that it wasn’t really going to be meaningful for people, since it wasn’t a ship fic or had popular characters in it, but I think it was interesting and a bit of a prelude to something that’d be important for me in the future.
3. Pick a fic and say something about why you wrote it – if there was a specific inspiration, perhaps from RL, fandom life, or a theme or a trope you felt needed to be written in a new way.
I am not actively in the Yuri On ice fandom, in fact I wholeheartedly avoid it for different reasons. Still, last year I embarked on the task of writing a fic for it (A Revolutionary Act is its name) for one reason only: I wasn’t at all happy with how the fandom (and the show, for that matter) treated body image and Yuri’s body specifically.
For those who don’t know me, I’m a plus size gal and have been my entire life.  Learning to accept and love my body is one of the most difficult things I’ve ever done (I’m still not all the way there), and body positivity conversations are very important to me.
For the longest time, I avoided writing fat female characters in the stuff I wrote, in my personal stuff and in fic, because I was scared that people would think I was self-inserting. I felt, for the longest time, that people saying “is that supposed to be you?” was an insult to my creativity. So I avoided it. And then, after years and years of not seeing myself represented in books often (let’s not even talk about the Latina aspect, that’s adds another layer to it all), I asked myself “why are there so many plus size ladies writing books with female protagonists but none of them are plus size?”. And then it hit me, maybe it was for the same reason I was avoiding it. I couldn’t blame others for the lack of representation if I myself wasn’t willing to do it. You know that quote from Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie? “the unintended consequence was that I did not know that people like me could exist in literature”? something along those lines.
So I used fic to try that out and warm myself into writing characters more like me. I headcanoned my Cosette from Les Mis as a plus size Latina and projected that into her and left it for the world to judge. Surprisingly, people responded amazingly well to that. I wrote a fic for a friend in which I explored Cosette’s and Éponine’s relationships with their bodies using myself and my friend as inspiration for both points of view, no matter how shameless a projection that was (My Body Is Home was its name, because the Mary Lambert quotes are a thing with me). And some people thanked me for talking about it, some people needed to hear those things as much as I did, to see themselves in their favorite characters.
Years passed and I came across the YOI situation. YOI is one of those kinds of “idol animes” in which the guys are represented as aesthetically pleasing for social standards of Japanese culture (mainly for women’s perception of male aesthetic archetypes in anime characters, that’s a whole analysis for some other time), and the fandom responded in the very same way. Yuri’s weight was a matter of mockery, of denigration and treated as an issue. Yuri’s “best” was when he was thin, Yuri’s “worst” was when he was fat. His fatness was associated with his lack of passion, his self-loathing, his loneliness. His thinness was associated with his triumph, his activity, his sex appeal. Both in the show and in most of fandom conversation/artwork/fanfiction.
So, before embarking on a redeeming fic for that situation, I investigated about plus size figure skaters. I wanted to know how much of a “problem” weight was for competitive figure skaters and if there were plus size figure skaters anywhere at all. I found a lot of them, actually, and some of them competing professionally. And I also found the amount of awful comments they got, the bullying, people actively telling them in the comments of a video where they were pulling off amazing stuff, that they weren’t supposed to pull off that amazing stuff, because of their weight.
I went ahead and wrote the fic. I had a lot of help for the Russian and Japanese cultural aspects, thanks to my amazing friends Anita and Aya, and I wrote what I knew would be my first and last YOI fic. My sole purpose was to put my grain of salt to fix a problem I felt the fandom was having, as someone who liked the show. It was the least I could do, if I felt something was wrong, to try to change it from the inside.
The result was actually very good. My fic isn’t by any means as popular as most fics on that fandom, it may not be an epitome of modern storytelling by any means whatsoever, but I received comments from people who had no idea a perspective like that could exist in this narrative. At first I found it strange, because I surround myself with body positive people and vibes and inspirations, but I understood how it could feel for someone who doesn’t have the same influences, who was born in fandoms where aesthetically accepted social standards are conceptualized to sell and market character archetypes that propel fantasies that don’t necessarily associate with reality.
All in all, it was somewhat out of character for me to write a YOI fic in the first place, because it isn’t the kind of fandom I tend to get involved with, but the results were positive for me and others and I feel I addressed a problem that I personally felt that had to be addressed. I did what I wish authors had done more of when I was a teenager reading fics, and I feel that’s a good use of my writing and time.
4. Is there something you wrote in a fic that was read differently than you intended, and that made you see your own fic in another light?
Alright so here comes my first (and hopefully not last) Miss Fisher fic, In the Land of Lethe. This fic was a bit of an impulsive thing, which is a lot to say for me because I don’t do anything impulsive ever. I had seen and loved the show, I was (am) obsessed with it and I wanted to write something. I think I wrote it in like 3 days or so, I hadn’t been that inspired with a fic in so long.
The truth is that I had been writing fic for fandoms where I either knew I didn’t belong, where I am not active but I create things for because I like the thing or where I didn’t form any strong bonds with people.
So in I go to write a fic for a thing I just finish devouring, in a bit of an impulse, and it just came out so naturally and fast I was surprised. I had been writing a lot of original stuff but my fic work had been dwindling in the past years. I had no idea what to expect upon posting it, especially since I took a leeway with some things, (like focusing on Mac and Phryne’s friendship more than it was maybe originally intended, or being presumptuous enough to attempt to delve into Phryne’s thoughts and ideas of her own identity, when I’m totally new in the fandom). I decided to not question myself as I often do and post it anyway, and be it what it may.
I am still shocked of how good people was to me. I got the nicest comments and the very things I was most worried about where the things people enjoyed the most. I realized that I had spent too much time writing fics for fandoms that were very critical and specific with the stuff included and that I was constantly trying to please, in a way, rather than please myself. And this impulsive fic I had done in a couple of days, with all the love for the show in my heart, was immediately welcomed among people who write amazing things.
5. Is there a fic by another writer that has inspired you?
In the Miss Fisher fandom once again, I have an interesting story with @firesign23‘s Snips and Snails and Squirrelly Tales, mostly with Fear Not The Bugle.
I actually came across the last installment of the series first (Fear Not The Beagle) and, for some reason, didn’t see it was a last installment of a longer thing. So in I get into this narrative with absolutely no context whatsoever and I read that Phryne and Jack are married and have a kid. Cue my utmost confusion. I was not sold on the idea initially, to say the least, and when I discovered it was a series, I thought I’d do the right thing and start from the beginning (revolutionary idea, I know).
And, holy crap, it was amazing. It was unexpected and absolutely in character and it introduced those unlikely things, that most people would normally feel at least a bit uneasy about, in a way that was so organic and true to their characters that you had no option but to give in and get this perspective.
And I loved getting into that series/fic that way, from the back door kind of, because I got to appreciate the amount of work it was to develop these characters in a situation that left you no choice but to accept this reality and actually feel delighted by it. You need to know your characters, know your audience and know the absolute heck out of your social/historical context to pull a stunt like that fic.
I don’t know this author personally, only through fic, but all my respect and admiration to the amount of work that was. A favorite, absolutely.

Hey, I want to start posting my own art but i don't know if i should do it on tumblr or instagram...which one should i choose? i noticed that you use both, but all your art has your blog URL... any thoughts?
Okay so here’s my best attempt to answer this, it got a bit long sorry! ^ ^;
I think different people have vastly different experiences posting art on various social media platforms depending on what you post, how you want to present it, how many followers you have, and how you regularly interact/WANT to interact with those followers.
I technically have an instagram which I tried to get myself to restart using after my last convention since so many cosplayers use it, and i tried putting a very small amount of art on there but tbh it’s already fallen back to its original use, which is to sometime post photos to tumblr through it ^ ^; I realized Instagram’s not a great platform for me personally to post art because 1) I personally do not have a lot of followers on it, 2) of those followers, many are rl people who found me through fb which i try to keep separated from my fandom blogs, 3) Instagram heavily controls image dimensions so it’s not great if you frequently post tall or long posts and the majority of my art is portrait, 4) Instagram is good for individual aesthetic images, not so great for long story-telling multi-page comics, which is a lot of what I do, 5) I’m not entirely sure how people find your blog on instagram since no reblogging and tags and stuff seem strange and most of the attention seems to come from people who already follow you, and I’m too tired to learn another social media platform now, and 6) Instagram is full of a TON of art theft and I’ve had too many personal bad experiences to have a good impression of the platform as a whole.
So uh, yep, in other words for me Instagram is mostly for cosplay, selfies, pet pics, and merch pics ^ ^;
I also post on Twitter, but that has its fair share of issues too. It, like instagram, is pretty bad for posting portrait images and works better with square/landscape aligned images. It absolutely SUCKS for long comics and multi-page things because the previews are awful. The text limitation is also pretty miserable for someone like me who loves talking a LOT on my posts. It also has a really weird HUGE hit or miss gap between art posts, and I feel like the amount of followers or comments you get per successful art post is far fewer than Tumblr, though others may have different experiences. It IS good for connecting to a less English and tbh far less America-centric community though ^ ^;
I personally prefer to use Tumblr as my main art posting platform for several reasons, some simply because I’ve been more successful here and that’s motivation to continue, and some also just because of what I post. This was the first fandom social media I was really active on, and I’ve been active for YEARS and have sloooooooooooooowly but steadily gained more success, bit by tiny bit through various fandoms (so yeah, tons of art posts with only single digit notes? been there, done that WHOO).
Because Tumblr’s been my main social media, I’ve gotten used to formatting my art specifically for it. Almost all of my art uses Tumblr’s ideal image posting proportions (2 width: 3 height, for those wondering, anything taller blurs), and I’ve learned to take advantage of Tumblr’s vertical scrolling to make posts that stand out when you speed scroll. I’m also the kind of artist who again, rarely posts a “look a pretty picture anyone can appreciate” type art, and more “here’s a really obscure hyper specific AU comic that you’ll have to follow all the links and read the text to appreciate,” type work. This latter means that being able to write long comments (and being able to put it beneath a cut), add links to other posts, and properly tag is really important.
I’ve also found that when I personally post this hyper specific content, on Tumblr and only Tumblr of my social media platforms do I get significant feedback. This is almost entirely because my own unique followers are truly amazing and I’m so incredibly grateful to them, but also partially because there’s so many methods of feedback for people at various comfort levels. There’s the askbox, which I can respond to publicly and where people can send anon if that’s easier. There’s IMs, which I can rarely respond to but it’s an option. There’s replies and comments in reblogs of posts. And there’s tags for people who want to ramble but don’t necessarily look for responses from me. The combination of all of these results in quite a decent amount of feedback that I can enjoy ^ ^; And again, this isn’t for every post; I find that art with less specific context, even if it gets exponentially more notes just don’t have the same type of feedback as my more specific content. And experiences will vary heavily between users, but this is just the community that I feel has grown around my own art here (Thank you all, dear followers, you’re all amazing ;A;).
Tumblr’s url is the one stamped on all of my work because it’s the one I’ve created my brand on, it’s the one that contains all of my content as I meant for it to be seen (comments, tags, links to other related posts and all) so it’s the one that most of my reposts on my other social media link to anyway, and also to be blunt, it has many more times the number of followers than all of my other social medias combined >.
Of course, Tumblr has plenty of cons too. As noted above, but horizontal images are CRAP to post on Tumblr bc they take the least amount of space when you’re vertically scrolling so even it’s a ridiculously huge and detailed long post, it’ll barely blip on most dashes. There’s a limit of 10 images, which can be annoying for me sometimes as a comic artist who has to work around that. Tumblr also does this ridiculously stupid thing where it resizes the image that appears on the dash so it’s really crappy quality and it’s a pain for people to open up the actual resolution image. Tumblr also has, ah, a very specific and rather hostile culture around many things, and depending on what you post you could get a lot of unsavory comments that will be a LOT more rare on other platforms. I’ve found that users on other platforms tend to understand the “You control what you consume,” concept a lot better ^ ^;;;; And given the above various forms of interacting with your followers that I’ve listed above, this also means that people have a variety of tools to make you feel like crap too! And then there’s all that stuff about safety mode going on recently, among other problems. Not a perfect platform, not by a LONG shot.
So which social media platform will be right for you? Again, it really, REALLY depends. If rl people follow you on one or the other and you want or DON’T want them to see it, that’s a factor. If you’re used to talking to your followers on one account and maybe they’d be interested in seeing something else from you, that’s an option. If you want to divide personal from fandom or combine them, that’s a factor. If you prefer more “artistic” or aesthetic art, perhaps instagram and twitter would work far better for you than me. If you have a certain art orientation you prefer, that’s a factor (again: Instagram = square, Twitter = square/landscape, Tumblr = portrait/square). If you want to write a lot of comments or post multi-page work, perhaps Tumblr is better. And of course, it certainly doesn’t hurt to try posting on multiple simultaneously and seeing what works for you, which could be everything!
But most importantly, please don’t get too discouraged if your work does not immediately get the response you were hoping it’d get. Gaining a following takes time and there are so many factors involved beyond your skill level alone, including the popularity of the fandom if it’s fanart, timeliness, frequency of your posts, and the biggest one is sheer dumb luck. Most if not all followers won’t ever comment. Most of your followers won’t even bother to hit like. It WILL feel exhausting and unrewarding and thankless if you go into it for the notes alone. So please, it’ll be hard but it can be a wonderful and rewarding thing to share things you’ve put your love and passion into, so enjoy drawing, draw what you love, and share because you want to share that feeling ^ ^
Sorry this got SUPER long, but I hope it was somewhat helpful! ^ ^;

Before I get to the “extRA questions” of the title, I need to share another great ode by Kathy with the world. As always, too good to get lost in comments:
Remember, kids: Smoking is bad for you. Don’t start!
So, our need for hot eye candy intellectual stimulation fulfilled, I can carry on with my post…
While I was still finishing up my RA Challenge ♡, fellow fan SueBC had moved on to her reply to the ever-circling Liebster Award on her blog I’m Feeling This. Some of her own questions for the continuation of the blog award, caught my attention. They would have been interesting as part of the RA Challenge ♡, too, as well as the old Blog Introspection Challenge from early 2015. Sue gave me the go ahead to answer a shorter catalogue of questions, and if you feel in the swing of another little blog challenge, why don’t you answer this, too? (All credit and references back to her, please 😉 .) As usual, I am particularly interested in the views of the commenters. The comment thread is yours!
Here is Sue’s list of questions picked by me, followed by my answers:
1. What is your favourite photo ever of your favourite actor or actress? 2. What time of day do you usually write and/or blog and why? 3. Does your avatar have special significance and if so, what is that significance? 4. In your real life, how open are you about the fact that you have a blog? 5. What are the boundaries for you in terms of how much of your real life you share on your blog?
1. Favourite Photo Ever
I love everything about this photo – the colours, the clever placement of the subject against the wall, the relaxed pose, the Lucas North styling, the perspective from slightly above, the off-centre composition, the lighting that creates a bit of shadow on the subject’s face, the intriguing look on the subject’s face, the evidence of strong thighs and biceps, the extended thumb… It’s not too polished, yet shot with the evidence of a professional photographer who knows his stuff.  I’ll spare you the denotations and connotations of the image (they were not a huge hit when I posted them on tumblr 😂) , even though they are part of the reason why I like this image so much. My love for this picture probably also comes down to my discovery of it at a time when I was hypersensitive to good photography – and to the appeals of Richard Armitage.
2. Blogging Schedule
Two favourite times: Either in the morning, on days when I don’t have much work; or in the evening, when work has been done. I prefer the mornings, though, because I tend to be alone at home at that time, so there is no “danger” of someone walking in on me and disturbing my train of thought.
3. Significance of my Avatar
I better show you my avatar in full glory before I explain.
It may not be self-explanatory anymore because it has been a long, long time since I last wrote an *ooof*. So here we go – when the original picture appeared on the entertainment site click, it caused a bit of hoohaa in the fandom because it was an answer to the question whether he was a cat or a dog person. While the cat lovers in the fandom were slightly put out by Richard’s cheeky two-part answer, the dog people were very pleased:
Dubious about cats?
More into dogs!
Guylty (self-confessed dog-lover despite being a cat-owner), however, only focussed on the chosen dog sound – because it fits very nicely with her moniker for her photo analyses… Besides – *ooof*, the man did look pretty hot in his slightly dishevelled early-morning-hair… (If you want to know why he looks that way, read this fan fic entitled “Bed Head” – It’s one of my favourites and I think it argues the case pretty convincingly… Note: It’s NSFW RPF, so if you don’t like RPF, don’t read!)
Anyway, I adjusted the picture sliiiiightly to fit my own agenda *coughs*, and it’s been my avatar on WP ever since. I’m usually not a fan of pictures of the OOA as an avatar (all my other Social Media accounts have a photo of “Armitage House” as the avatar), because there is always a chance that two people may use the same avatar – which can cause confusion. But this one was just too good to pass up…
4. In your real life, how open are you about the fact that you have a blog?
In my RL, a lot of people know that I am a fan, and a lot of my RL friends and family also know that I have a blog. I find it difficult to hide anything – mainly because a) I am not fond of secrets and lies, and b) my blogging activities have tangible, RL effects that I have had to explain to my friends and family. For instance, when my dad died (almost to the day) three years ago, my dear fandom friends and readers organised a fundraising drive in honour of my father which resulted in a massive donation to a cause that had been named by my mother and myself, in lieu of flowers, as well as donations to RA’s JustGiving pages. I felt that that had to be acknowledged by my RL family, and so I disclosed that I was part of a community of fans, by virtue of being a blogger. Similarly, I eventually had to explain to my children and husband why there was a continuous stream of parcels arriving at our house for a while – all thanks to my blogging (and crafting) activities.
So the upshot is that many people in my RL know that I blog. However, I have not told anyone the name of my blog and where to find it. I insist that I am not embarrassed about what I am doing on my blog. The reason I am not throwing that info around is connected to my unwillingness to justify my enthusiasm for an actor to people who may not understand why that gives me any kind of pleasure. Plus, since my work happens on the internet as well, I do not want my professional life as a rather serious, specialised writer to be associated with my entertainment-focussed hobby. That said – I don’t think I’ll be fired if my fandom activities were to be known. I think my bosses would actually find it quite funny. And who knows – it would even open up a completely new niche of specialisation for me?
5.What are the boundaries for you in terms of how much of your real life you share on your blog?
Ooops, caught in the act. So much for keeping pictures of myself out of this… Guylty accidentally appearing in the photograph by a fellow fan whose name I unfortunately do not know.
Well, a lot of that harks back to what I have written in the previous question: It starts with keeping my real name out of my blog, as well as my face, for the reasons cited above. I also draw the line at showing my children’s photos (an old habit from when they were young; I think that parents should *never* post images of their children publicly online, and that even includes quasi-private social media platforms such as Facebook.) Respecting the privacy of others is important to me, which is why I don’t name friends or family who are not part of the fandom. Plus, this is a fandom blog dedicated to RA – I write under the assumption that my audience predominantly want to read about Armitage, not about me. The occasional breaches of my own rules tend to happen in the context of photography (when I am posting a slide-show of my holiday snaps or when I have seen an interesting exhibition), when RL has had an impact on my blogging behaviour (such as my dad’s death), or when things happen in RL that may be of universal interest (like elections, or other news). But unless my RL has some kind of relevance to the topic of the individual RA-related blog post, I always keep references out.
Having said all that, I do realise that my RL sneaks into my blog, mostly in asides, or in individual sentences, when I am explaining something. The temptation to write more about myself, is always there – who *doesn’t* like to talk about themselves? – but I try to keep it in check.  This is a fan blog about RA, and I want to keep it that way.
Now, what about yourselves?
Link me your favourite pics (I could put them into a picture gallery in a separate post), tell me about your blog reading/writing habits, reveal the secret of your avatar, and tell us how much your RL knows about your fan girling activities. I am very curious!
And thanks to SueBC for the interesting questions!
