I’ve put off posting this for months because I wanted to find my comics so I could talk about how she fits into this one story wise, but I’ve officially given up on that so AT LONG LAST here’s Lauren in The Midnight Giant!
Comic Lauren is younger and a little less mature than her show counterpart, she has less of a parental role towards Hilda and enjoys messing with her. She’s considered a lot less…reliable by her mother. But she genuinely tries, she does everything she can to help her family and prove to her Mum that she’s capable, but that’s a little hard when Johanna’s focus is on Hilda’s shenanigans so often…

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth Review Chapter 4!
Okay, this collection of posts will be filled with spoilers, including clips and screenshots, so if you don't wanna see things, then don't look. Some of the things I'm gonna highlight will include references to Remake and other sources to link with the overarching plot. This is a straight path playthrough with no sidequests or extra content.
Now you know, let's go!
Chapter four is a meaty fucker. Once you discount all the waffle you can do with sidequests and other random things, chapters 1-3 aren't actually that long and involved story content wise. Chapter four is really the start of the bulky content. And I'm gonna summarise most of it because I'll be here all day otherwise.
Tumblr media
Okay, once we cross the plains and reach Under Junon, we're basically thrown into the fight with Bottomswell, although it's not called that anymore and icba to recall what its new name is.
The battle itself is pretty fun and makes full use of Tifa's flight capabilities if you know what you're doing.
The plot has been changed slightly. We don't rescue Priscilla, but instead it's Yuffie in trouble. Our buddy, Mr Dolphin, has his moment at the end with a combo and he comes back into play later when we climb the electrified tower, which I honestly thought wouldn't happen because it's pretty cringe originally, but they made it work so I can't complain.
Once we've dealt with Bottomswell and made it back to shore, we find the mayor giving Yuffie CPR. Now, I noticed Cloud scrutinising the procedure, so I'm suspicious about this coming back at some point in part three. There was originally a draft of Tifa giving Cloud CPR that didn't make it into the game, so it's possible they're planning on doing something with the idea.
Anyway, we save Yuffie and get a hilarious bit between her and Barret. I honestly love their dynamic. She's such a kid and he's got so little patience for older kids. I feel bad for future teenage Marlene 🤣
Tumblr media
After we agree to meet Yuffie, it's back to the inn for some convos and rest. This one with Barret amused me. Cloud knows he likes the limelight and plays along with it. This detail also comes into play later the GS when Cloud's defending Barret to Dio.
Tumblr media
On the way to his room, Cloud overheard a strange voice coming from Aerith's room. This is the first hint that Red isn't exactly what he seems to be. We also hear more about the whispers and what happened to them both. This is actually interesting. What exactly did Sephiroth need to steal from them?
Tumblr media
This chat with Tifa is non-optional, unlike the others, and delves deeper into their relationship and her suspicions about what he remembers. They have a heart to heart, but aren't quite on the same page, which leaves them both a bit downcast.
Tumblr media
Next morning, Yuffie intrudes to let the group know she's been hired to kill Rufus at his inauguration. She escapes and they're left to pursue her and hide in plain sight as troopers. But they also want to talk to Rufus about whether they're actually being hunted.
Tumblr media
But before all that, Cloud has to go hopping off the back of a dolphin to climb the tower. And yes, he looks smug when he's done because he's a lil shit 🤣
Tumblr media
Meanwhile, we get some snippets leading into part three's storyline in Wutai with EC's Glenn making an appearance. Rufus literally killed him, and going off what he spoke about, it's possible he's actually just Sephiroth in disguise and using Glenn to stoke war and gather more dead souls in the lifestream to corrupt it. But we won't know for sure until part three.
Tumblr media
After the failed assassination, Cloud splits up with the others and finds himself stuck with some of the platoon he was directing in the parade. You have to keep them alive to succeed at this part.
At the end of the gauntlet is a rematch with Roche. And after you kick his ass, he helps you get to the dock to board the ferry.
Tumblr media
Cloud reunites with his team and has picked up a few stragglers. And Yuffie. Who's in disguise as a robe. But that's for chapter 5.
A lot happens plot wise in this chapter, but most of it is set up for part three. Rufus mentions he's read Cloud's file, so that'll be interesting. There's also the plot with Glenn and stuff with Roche. And that's before we even get to Sephiroth.

About Sunflowers & Keats
Check it out, has everyone else gotten this already? Am I just way off/going down a rabbit hole?
I didn’t get the Keats reference before. I rewatched the ep and remembered I had meant to go back and try to understand that line on the bus, when Ted says, is that Keats? after Rebecca says her phone is at the bottom of the canal. She says nope but then Beard nods his head at Ted and Ted’s got this what really no? look on his face. I didn’t understand it but at the time Beard’s nod felt like a parallel to Boatguy saying “yes we did” after a Rebecca left, hinting that they fell for each other or whatever, or the creepy “yes we had sex” which the writers wanted to have crossed our minds. I had wondered if Beard was also implying, yes she seems to have had sex, because she was acting so giddy and relaxed (gawd just writing all this out really shows how badly men can write women! more women writers please!!)… or possibly yes she’s high (because Beard would know).
THEN I figured out the Keats thing. Keats had it engraved on his gravestone “Here lies one who’s name was writ on water” because he imagined he’d be forgotten/washed away after his death. So Beard’s nod was actually a direct answer to Ted’s actual yet metaphorical question, was that Keats? Because that’s a thing between Ted and Beard—references, puns, as well as verifying the correct answer with each other. And you know how Ted mostly looks to Beard for answers. Ted’s real question is, have you forgotten me? His name/his 12 texts and 3 gifs washed away at the bottom of the canal. We all knew he was crushing on her a bit in this episode, lost without her. But the fact that he imagines himself as Keats imagines himself, washed away and forgotten. Oh Teddy! Rebecca answers nope but Beard nods yes—no clarity there, lol, except that Rebecca is maybe just oblivious in the moment to Ted’s weird jokes and Beard is actually picking up on Ted’s feelings.
The fact that Beard in the scene is literally the embodiment or representation of lightening (his costume) would suggest that he not only senses Ted has indeed been forgotten by Rebecca but also that she’s been struck by lightning…with Boatguy. Ugh!! They obviously didn’t really complete the whole predictions thing—it’s left hanging. Boatguy is more gezellig/a little sunshine than lightening, but this scene does seem to link the prediction of lightening to Boatguy, but also continues to link the predictions to Ted! Ted’s messages reaching out to her are lost in the water, the same water Rebecca was drenched in, upside down but safe. The same water Boatguy’s phone was thrown into. Ted is shown in contrast to every other guy, in one way or another in Rebecca’s separate (and mostly unknown to Ted) storyline/quest for her soulmate as foreshadowed by the predictions (saving more on that for another ramble, but just to say Ted himself is a little bit physic and the physic is wearing army green.)
Sad to make this connection about Keats because it suggests that in Rebecca’s quest Ted has now been washed away and Boatguy is the lightening. Beard’s nod is that something big has happened with Rebecca. But I do find it interesting that Ted would even imagine himself washed away—that’s quite a poetic metaphor of unrequited/unresolved feeling for your platonic bestie! Also interesting that Beard would implicitly understand that Ted’s got those kind of feelings for Rebecca, and he’s letting Ted know what he senses going on.
Rebecca will never forget Ted, so her nope warms my heart a little within the context of how she later fought for him to stay.
I don’t know, still just trying to understand what these writers were doing. Was it not that deep? Did they just throw in massive parallels and lots of romantic/poetic allusions and references for the heck of it? To make it cute and genre-bending? Sports show meets rom-com. Different characters get bits and pieces of the rom-com but none of them really get the whole thing? They’re all just completing each other’s stories? Rebecca and Ted are a double act? Their stories parallel and mirror each other and that’s it? All of the parallels and call backs is just meant to show how connected all the characters became, one big happy family under the guidance of Ted? (And Dr. Sharon I will add!!! What if we had more of her…)
Was his messages washing away in the river another Ted was just there to help others and leave his mark thing? Foreshadowing that he would leave Mary Poppins style? And yet be remembered afterall, just as Keats is as well-known a poet as it gets, beyond his wildest imagination. Ted is a larger than life character, that’s for sure. (A Keats gravestone reference also links to how Rebecca’s mom seems to think it will feel for Rebecca that Ted has died when he leaves.)
Sigh. Just so sad this King didn’t get with his Queen. Maybe still? But I’ve lost hope, and at the same time it’s fun to dive deep into this and live in the story a little longer.

Unexpected Judgement Ch 14
Tumblr media
Warnings: Language.
SURPRRIIIISSEEEE!!!! Guess who LOVES this Donnelly storyline and LOVES writing random shit no one asked for?!?! (Hint..its me) This is a little bonus chapter for the series, it jumps around a bit timeline wise post where we left them (Y/N alive, not the alternate ending), there’s no specific time or connection between the +++ it’s just little snippets of their lives. I very well may do some more later on. I originally thought this would be WAY shorter and include more snippets but we all know how things go lolololol.
***
“Hey, you uh…got a minute?” Casey asked as she braced a quick knock on the door frame of Liz’s office.
“Thought I got you your warrants already?” The older woman smirked, gesturing to the chair in front of her desk. “What’s up?”
“I uh… wanted to ask you about something.” Liz’s brow furrowed, folding her arms in front of her on the desk.
“Why are you so nervous right now? What did you do this time?”
“Nothing! I..uh…I just…” Casey sputtered, suddenly wickedly nervous, Liz’s eyes boring into her. “It’s about Y/N.”
“Is she okay?” The older woman felt her heart pick up, worrying that you’d potentially regressed after seeming to be fully recovered.
“Yes! She’s fine, she’s..great.” She took a deep breath, gathering her wild running thoughts together, “I just feel like we did this whole thing so backwards the first time, the whole secret keeping thing? And I wanted to ask for your…” Her brows scrunched, searching for the right word despite having gone through this conversation in her head about a million times already, “Uhm…permission I guess?” A smirk grew on Liz’s face, finding enjoyment in the usually eloquently spoken lawyer stumbling over her words.
“You want to ask her to marry you?” Casey stopped, mouth slightly agape as she took in the grin on her boss’s face.
“Uh, yeah. Yeah I really, really do.” Liz gave her a soft smile, pulling open one of the drawers of her desk, digging around a minute before she handed a business card across to Casey.
“Tell ya what, I’ve got an account at Tiffany’s on Greene street. And she’s got a soft spot for rose gold.”
“Are you sure?” She hesitantly took the card, quickly looking it over before placing it into her pocket, “I mean, the house? You’ve already—“
“Nonsense.” She waved it off, “Besides, it’s her bastard of a father’s money, I’ve been wracking up a tab for years.” Casey let out a small laugh at that, “She’s a Donnelly, she deserves something nice. Not that it matters, you could propose with a ring pop and she’d say yes.”
“Really?”
“You kidding? Casey, she’s so utterly in love with you, she never shuts up about it. You make her happier than anything else in this world, so yes, you have my blessing.”
“Thank you. Really, I mean it.” She gave the woman a warm smile, standing from the chair in a motion to leave at Liz’s small nod. It was then that you practically bounded into the office, not bothering to knock.
“They were outta shrimp so I had them put chicken in your scampi I hope that’s okay.” You glanced up, greeting Casey softly, “Hey baby.” Not being modest about the fact that your Mother was right there you pulled her into a tight kiss, “Left a coffee on your desk.”
“Thank you.” She smiled, giving you a quick kiss and squeezing your hand, “I’ve got a motion to file, I’ll see you at home.”
“‘Course.” You pecked her cheek quickly before dropping into the chair she’d just vacated.
“What is this bullshit about chicken? You couldn’t have ran to Pasteur to get shrimp?” You rolled your eyes at your mother’s comment,
“Don’t you have like, a clerk to run your errands for you? You’re lucky I even made it here, Rita wanted to drag me to Saks.”
“Shame, you could use a shopping spree. You look like a broke college student.” She teased, taking in your appearance. Truthfully, you were in leggings and a tank top covered in Frozen characters, white cardigan thrown over top, and you’d tugged your hair up into a slightly unkempt top knot.
“Wow. Thanks. For your information I spent the morning sitting under a table at the 1-6 talking to a 5 year old who was assaulted by her step dad. And from what I hear, you spent your morning making a 11 year old cry on the stand. You proud of that?” You half chuckled, knowing that honestly the kid had it coming to him, and was technically a perp. “Besides, can’t afford a shopping spree, had to replace the bed frame last week.”
“I don’t want to know.” You stood as your phone pinged, medical results back, leaning over the desk to give Liz a quick kiss on the cheek.
“Let’s just say Rollins won’t be getting her cuffs back anytime soon.”
“Oh Jesus Christ.” She gave an exasperated sigh, shoving the take out container away from her. “Why are you like this?” You gave a playful shrug of your shoulders,
“You usually blame Rita.”
“Get out of my office.” She hucked a pen at you, causing you to yelp, jumping towards the door.
“I love youuu.” You called back sing songily over your shoulder.
“You’re chaotic!” She shouted after you, rolling her eyes.
*
It took Casey nearly two weeks to finally decide on a ring that she deemed perfect and good enough for you, dragging Alex down to Tiffany’s with her to get her approval before she finally bought it.
It took another two weeks before she was able to figure out how to propose. Naturally, she wanted to do it at Seagate, but the fear of losing the ring in the sand or waves before it got on your finger was too high. There were far too many accidental blooper engagement videos out there of the exact thing happening.
As it turned out, it didn’t need to be anything fancy or special. It was a Saturday morning, she’d spent far too many hours working through the week, and ended up at the office much later than she’d hoped the night before, missing the dinner date you had scheduled. That morning you kissed her head gently, telling her to keep sleeping because she deserved it while you snuck out of the bed. The quiet clatter from the kitchen and the smell of cinnamon wafting through the apartment eventually roused her. You were clad in pyjama shorts and one of her old Harvard tees that you loved so much, you claimed they smelt like her and it made you feel at home wearing them, your hair tied back in a fuzzy side braid. You turned from the stove at the sound of her in the room, plating up the french toast.
“Perfect timing.” You gave her a bright grin, pushing the plate towards her as you moved around the breakfast bar, kissing her cheek softly, “Made with love, just like you like it.”
“You’re perfect, you know that?” Her comment caused you to flush, feeling overwhelmed from the affection.
“Oh I dunno about that.” You softly laughed.
“Baby I mean it.” The words tumbled out without her even realizing it, just so overcome with emotion she couldn’t hold it back anymore, “I love you more than anything, I wanna spend the rest of my life with you.” Your eyes widened slightly, a small gasp escaping your lips.
“Really?”
“Of course!” She let out a groan, “Shit.” Moving quickly to the desk you shared she tugged through one of her drawers of work files, searching for the small box.
“What?” There was a sense of curiosity and a worry hidden in your voice.
“There’s a process to this and I just fucked it all up.”
“What’re you—Oh…OH!” Your hands flew to your face at the sight of the ring, “Casey…?” The tears welled in your eyes, “Are you—“
“Will you marr—“
“YES!” You launched at her with such ferocity the box nearly tumbled out of her hand, the suspicion of not wanting to do it at the beach confirmed.
The rest of the morning was spent with happy tears and a very eager you wanting to show Casey just how much you loved her. That French toast very much forgotten, cold and very soggy by the time you managed to tear yourselves away from each other.
+++++
You weren’t quite sure when the tradition of McDonald’s breakfast for Mother’s Day had originated, probably when you were old enough to have an allowance but not old enough for it to be enough to afford much more than a McMuffin. Though Elizabeth Donnelly would never be caught dead inside a McDonald’s, so you usually picked up the food on the way to her Brownstone, celebrating at the house in place of that week’s Sunday dinner.
You and Casey were greeted with warm hugs before you spread a smattering of items across the dining room table, enjoying a variety of the foods. The morning passed quickly, the three of you laughing over old stories Liz shared of the terrors of your childhood. Much to your embarrassment she brought up the story of how you came out to her, coming home slightly drunk from a high school party, much earlier than she’d expected you. When she questioned you to why (ignoring the fact that her underage daughter was clearly intoxicated) you mentioned something about being stuck in 7 minutes in heaven when a boy whipped it out and you gagged over the thought of it anywhere near you, commenting something about how it looked like a naked mole rat. She’d laughed at your brashness, sending you up to bed with water and Advil, you’d been hesitant the next morning, remembering the conversation, nervous to face her, but she’d obviously openly accepted that little fact of who you were.
You were clearing the table, tossing the wrappers and last little bites of food you couldn’t finish into the take away bag, getting ready to leave a few hours later.
“Oh! I almost forgot your present!” You moved to grab the gift bag from inside your bag.
“Sweetheart you know you don’t have to.”
“Well, I wanted to.” You shot back, handing it over to her. Liz ruffled through the tissue paper, “Hey! Card first!” She nearly rolled her eyes at your insistence, placing the bag on the table while she slid open the envelope. Her eyes scanned the front of the card,
“Did you even read this before you bought it? It say—“ She suddenly stopped, the card flipped open in her hand, the glossy paper slipping into her hand. “Is this…are you..?” Her eyes shot up to you, feeling the tears filling them.
“So? What’d’you prefer? Gramma or Grammy?” You watched her eyes fly between you and Casey, the shock slowly taking over her face, “You can’t be mad at her! It’s not like she can accidentally knock me up!” You defended quickly, “I know it’s not exactly traditional, probably should’ve waited until we were actually married but the doctors said it could take a long time. We didn’t expect it to take so fast.”
“Well when have you have done anything traditional in your life.” You laughed at that, “You’re really pregnant?”
“Yeah Mom. You’re gonna be a Gramma.”
“Oh sweetheart….” She quickly pulled you into a tight hug, kissing your head softly, “I love you,” Her gaze landed on Casey, tugging her into the hug too, “Both of you. Congratulations.” She could barely imagine it, she’d never really thought about being a Mother, much less being a Grandmother, but she loved you both so much she knew any child of yours would be incredible. Liz pulled away gently, grasping you by the shoulders as she locked eyes with you, “But for your own sanity, please don’t ever let Rita babysit.” Both you and Casey absolutely howled at that, “I’m serious! I paid for that condo, I don’t want it burnt down over some dino nuggets!!”
+++++
A few months later you found yourself back at that infamous A.D.A. Gala over in Seagate, at least this time you had Casey by your side, able to be open and loving with each other. You were up at the bar, sipping back on your soda water, watching her make small talk with some work friends, smiling as she bid them a goodbye, making her way over to you. Casey cupped your cheek softly, kissing you with unbelievable intimacy, an arm wrapping around you as she spoke.
“You thinking about how much you hate the fact that you can’t drink right now?” She questioned, kissing your cheek, free hand, rubbing gently at the small bump of your stomach.
“No.” You replied, kissing her lightly, “Thinking about how I don’t wanna wait any longer to marry you…and how the beach is only five minutes away…” She didn’t miss the gleam in your eye, the smirk on your lips, a smile breaking through her own.
“Tonight? You sure?”
“Baby I would’ve married you ages ago. Tonight just feels perfect.” You hummed in satisfaction as her lips met your head.
“Why do you look like you’re scheming something up right now?” Liz’s voice broke through your thoughts, your gaze meeting hers, smirk evident on your lips.
“Perfect timing.” You replied, “Get Rita, we’re going down to the beach.”
“What are you planning now?”
“You’re gonna marry us. Tonight. Please.” She sighed lightly with a smile,
“When have I ever been able to say no to you?”
“Oho I can think of a few.” She swatted at your arm, glare evident in her eye before she waved Rita over.
You gave no explanation as you lead them down to your little piece of heaven, the sun having barely set, dusk slowly taking over the warm evening.
“Rita what the hell are you doing with that bottle of champagne?!” Liz’s voice broke the silence,
“You dragged me out of a free food and drink gala to come to the beach! I’m wearing Dolce & Gabbana, what did you expect?! Why are we here?”
“I need a witness. My chaotic daughter decided she needed to get married tonight.”
“Oh!” You couldn’t help but laugh at the older women’s bantering, curling yourself around Casey, gently kissing her cheek.
“Sorry Rita…” You laughed, tugging Casey closer to the water.
And it was just like that, just the four of you and the gentle sound of the waves washing around your feet that you were officially wed. It wasn’t what any of you had expected, it wasn’t what any of you had planned, but it was all you needed, something small, intimate, and most importantly surrounded by the people you loved most, in your favourite place in the world. Though you would’ve married Casey anywhere, she made every place you went your most favourite place. She was the light of your life, and you were hers, you found such solace and peace in each other, fitting perfectly into each other's lives. She was your saving grace, the perfect addition to your little mish mashed family, the missing puzzle pieces from each other's lives you’d spent so long searching for. You’d fallen for each other those years ago on that very beach, your first kiss, your first Valentine’s, your favourite memories flooding alongside the waves, it simply made perfect sense that there was where you made up vows on the spot. Trying to get the words out about just how much you loved each other, how you wanted nothing more than to spend your lives together, and just how incredibly excited you were about the little bean growing inside of you. There wasn’t a dry eye among any of you as you shared your first official kiss as a married couple.
There certainly was no doubting your love, you were truly meant for each other.

Hi!
About GWYN...
I am so prepared for her journey. I read some passages that emphasize his story.
The part that says her voice wants out into the world and was trapped.
The part where she went back to the library anyway.
What do you think will happen in her story in the books?
How is this character going to fit in beyond the valkyrie issue and her being able to wear the priestess stone without feeling dirty? What is your theory about your father and grandfather?
Bonus question: Do you think she was just thrown into the story like any other or she will be Az's mate.
I definitely think she's Az's mate. There's never been a more poignant use of mating bond language than the final lines of the POV chapter. Above all else Az had struggled with the realization that he wasn't given a Mating Bond, to the point that he keeps trying to force the idea of a mating bond onto females he's never going to have a mating bond with. Yet here is this female, standing right in front of him (or in close range) who most likely is his Mate and he's currently clueless because he's kind of a social idiot at this point (I say that in jest but to some degree, Az does struggle with a lot of common sense things at the moment). The thought of a female he "wouldn't even call a friend" (yet) being happy makes him feel joy and yet he's clueless as to what that might mean. It's a flashing neon sign to the rest of us but he's oblivious. And SJM made Gwyn and Az's interactions more playful and flirtatious than we've ever seen any characters (except when Feyre finally started opening herself up to Rhys). Nesta and Cassian had a lust / hate thing going on but they were never all that playful. Elain and Lucien aren't playful yet considering they are avoiding one another. Jurian and Vassa aren't playful since they're putting off feisty Nessian vibes. So yeah, Gwyn and Az with their "see you later Shadowsinger" and his eyebrows raised high and looking at her with amusement is definitely something. As far as Gwyn's journey, I have a feeling that Beron is going to be her grandfather which is going to cause conflict. Az already has issues with Autumn and I think that will open up the door for him to finally settle the score there. I know some want Eris to kill Beron but I'm not sure he'd ever truly be able to follow through with taking out his own father. Or Helion which could cause an issue between the courts (one High Lord taking out another High Lord). So to me, it makes sense if Az (who definitely doesn't shy away from revenge) is the one who gets rid of him. Or maybe Eris will be her grandfather and Beron would then look to eliminate Gwyn because of her "unpure" blood line. Which would also result in the death of Beron. Either way, I think Beron is going to die in Gwyn / Az's book. I don't think the father storyline is going to be the focus. Really, we weren't given anything important about him because Sangravah's Rite may have been completely different than Springs Great Rite so it really could be some nameless, faceless fae. There's nothing hinting that her father is anyone important (whereas we know for a fact her grandfather was of Autumn Court nobility). I know a lot of people dislike this thought but I personally could see Gwyn as a lightsinger. Not that she would ever be evil. Rhys and Az are very dark, full of rage characters, yet we know them to be loving and loyal to their friends and family. They are only "dark" when it comes to enemies. So if Gwyn is meant to be Az's match (and not only a match to the lighter side of Az), she's got to be a bit darker than she currently is. No, I don't think she'd mind that Az tortures people but it's not enough for her to just accept that side of him. She needs to embrace a little darkness herself, just like Feyre did which made her equal to Rhys. I think Gwyn will discover that her voice can be used to have others do her bidding (like a siren) and at first she'd be horrified by the discovery. But I think she (with Az's help) would come to accept that she can embrace the darkness in her while still choosing to use it to help others. As far as her feeling worthy to once again wear her stone, I'm sort of divided. Either she'll eventually realize that she's worthy by the end of her

Tony Stark and Arthuriana
Coming to you by special request, a very long post about 616 Tony's interest in Arthuriana, with a focus on all of Tony's run-ins with Morgan le Fay!
I feel like I should disclaim the extent of my knowledge here, which is that I still haven't managed to read anywhere near every issue of Iron Man -- at least, not yet, anyway -- so I'm just going by the things I know I've read, and Morgan le Fay's Marvel wiki entry is frustratingly under-cited, so it's very possible I've missed something relevant, but I'm pretty sure I've got the big stuff down. My other disclaimer here is that I'm not as big an Arthurian nerd as Tony is, which is to say that most of my familiarity comes from modern retellings -- T. H. White's The Once and Future King, Marion Zimmer Bradley's The Mists of Avalon, Mary Stewart's The Crystal Cave, Rosemary Sutcliff's Sword at Sunset -- and not so much the usual classic sources on the Matter of Britain, though I've read bits and pieces of them.
(This is because I wanted to read versions of them that were as close to the original as possible but so far have not ended up finishing any of them because, well, that's hard. So I've never read the Mabinogion because I do not know Welsh. I've got the Norton Critical Edition of Malory's Le Morte d'Arthur, which is probably the best student edition if you're looking for something without modernized spellings, as I was. I've also got -- well, okay, it's my wife's but I'm borrowing it -- a relatively recent Boydell & Brewer edition (ed. Reeve, tr. Wright) of Geoffrey of Monmouth's Historia Regum Britanniae (History of the Kings of Britain), which is, you guessed it, in Latin with a facing English translation. I haven't gotten very far in it because, in case you didn't know this about Latin texts, the beginning is pretty much always the hardest, so I gave up and read some Plautus adaptations instead. Anyway, if for some reason you too want to read Geoffrey of Monmouth in the original Latin I'd recommend that one, but I can't recommend any particular English translations because I've never read one by itself. I bet you didn't think you'd be getting Latin prose recommendations in this post. I mean, maybe you did; it is me, after all.)
Okay. Right. King Arthur. Here we go.
We've got:
Flashbacks to Tony's childhood in late Iron Man volume 1
A brief discussion of Morgan's origin story and Avengers #187
Iron Man vol 1 #149-150: Doomquest
What If vol 1 #33: What if Iron Man was trapped in the time of King Arthur?
Iron Man vol 1 #249-250: Recurring Knightmare
Iron Man: Legacy of Doom #1-4
Avengers vol 3 #1-4: The Morgan Conquest
Civil War: The Confession
Mighty Avengers vol 1 #9-11: Time Is On No One's Side
In terms of universe-internal chronology, we know from Iron Man #287, from 1992, that Tony has been a fan of King Arthur since childhood. This is an issue of a fandom-favorite arc which features Tony having a lot of childhood flashbacks, including the famous "Stark men are made of iron" line (in #286) that for some reason MCU fandom decided it loved; I mean, seriously, I've seen that quoted in way more MCU fic than 616 fic. But slightly later, in #287, we get an entire page devoted to Tony's love of King Arthur.

The narration reads: "Over the next few years, I learned as my father intended. Discipline of body. Strength of character. But in what free time I was allowed, I worked my way through the school's library. At thirteen, I discovered Mallory [sic], who showed me a whole new world. A world of dedication to a cause greater than oneself. Of chivalry and honor. And the fantastic deeds -- of armored heroes."
The art shows Tony as a child sitting under a tree, reading a book labeled Mort D'Arthur by Mallory [sic] -- no, don't ask me why nobody at Marvel checked how to spell either the name of the book or its author -- and daydreaming of King Arthur, the Sword in the Stone, knights, et cetera. Just in case you somehow missed the extremely blatant hint that we are meant to understand that Tony's knight obsession heavily influenced him becoming Iron Man as an adult, we see one of his armors mixed in with all the drawings of knights. So, yes, canonically Tony is Iron Man at least partly because he's a giant King Arthur nerd, which I think is so very sweet. I love him. He's such a dork!
(This issue is currently in print in the Iron Man Epic Collection War Machine, should you need your own copy.)
This isn't actually the only reference to Tony as a King Arthur fanboy in this era of canon, either; a little later, in IM #298, we see that one of Tony's passwords is actually "Mallory." (Yeah, no, they still couldn't spell. But it's cute.)
Tumblr media
But in terms of actual publication order, this is definitely not the first time we have seen in canon that Tony is into Arthuriana, as I'm sure you all know. I would assume, in fact, that giving Tony a childhood interest in Arthuriana is because Doomquest is one of the most beloved Iron Man story arcs of all time, and that all started at least a decade before IM #287 here was published.
The villain of Doomquest -- the one who isn't Doctor Doom, at least -- is Morgan le Fay. Yes, that Morgan le Fay. Yes, Arthur's evil half-sister Morgan le Fay. Yes, all of this King Arthur stuff is canonically real history on Earth-616. Morgan's first appearance in Marvel, per the wiki, was in Black Knight #1 (1955), which I have not read, and judging by the summary I feel like this is probably just supposed to be a straight-up comic retelling of Arthurian legends for kids; I don't think Marvel really had the whole Marvel Universe in mind as a concept in 1955, so I'm not sure this was meant to connect to anything else. I feel like this is another one of those instances of Marvel discovering that they can write comics about characters in the public domain for free -- like, I'm pretty sure that's how we also ended up with, like, Norse, Greek, and Roman mythology wedged into 616.
As far as I can tell from the wiki, the first time Morgan tangled with the Avengers (or indeed the larger 616 universe) in any way actually predated Doomquest -- it was in an early arc in Spider-Woman (#2-6) and then Avengers #187, which came out in 1979, actually right when Demon in a Bottle was happening over in Iron Man comics. If you read #187, Iron Man is not in it because he's off the team due to his drinking problem and also his accidentally murdering the Carnelian ambassador problem. So Wonder Man's filling in instead. This issue is part of Michelinie's rather sporadic Avengers run, which makes sense, I guess, considering where we see Morgan next.
Anyway, Avengers #187 is the classic issue where Wanda is possessed by Chthon, but what you may not remember from Chthon's backstory (I sure didn't!) is that he was summoned by Morgan le Fay because she was the first person who tried to wield the Darkhold to summon him. As you can imagine, this did not work out especially well for her and her followers and they had to seal Chthon away in Wundagore Mountain, which was where Wanda found him. (The Spider-Woman stuff is only slightly earlier and also appears to be about Morgan and the Darkhold; the Darkhold is not one of the areas of 616 canon I am especially conversant with, alas. It's on my to-read list.)
Tumblr media
Doomquest, as you probably know, was a classic Iron Man two-parter in Layton & Michelinie's first Iron Man run that set up Tony and Doom as rivals; Doomquest itself was IM #149-150, in 1981, and then in their second IM run they came back and did a sequel in 1989, Recurring Knightmare (IM #249-250), and then the much later four-part sequel to that was the 2008 miniseries Iron Man: Legacy of Doom, which was also by Layton & Michelinie but generally does not seem to be as popular as the first two parts. They've all been reprinted, if you're looking for copies; I have a Doomquest hardcover that collects the first four issues and then a separate Legacy of Doom hardcover. Currently in the Iron Man Epic Collection line there's a volume called Doom, which confusingly only collects the 249-250 part of the storyline (as well as surrounding issues), because for some reason the first Layton & Michelinie run isn't in Epics yet but the second one is. So the beginning of Doomquest isn't currently in print, as far as I can tell. I'm sure you can find it anyway.
So what's Doomquest about? Okay, so you remember how Doctor Doom's mother's soul is stuck in hell for all eternity? Well, Doom's obviously interested in getting her back, and the strategy he has embarked on is to try to team up with other powerful magicians who can help him out, and he thinks Morgan le Fay would be a good choice, for, uh, his quest. Doom's quest. A Doomquest, if you will. (If you've ever read Doctor Strange & Doctor Doom: Triumph & Torment, you're familiar with the part where he later ends up waylaying Strange for this and they go to hell together. And if you haven't read Triumph & Torment, you really should, because it's amazing.)
So Doom is off to his time machine to go team up with Morgan le Fay and Tony thinks Doom is up to something -- Doom has been stealing components for his time machine from a lot of people, including Tony -- and he follows him and it turns out one of Doom's lackeys has a grudge and wants to trap Doom in the past forever, and Tony gets caught up in it. Now they're both in Camelot. Surprise! #149 is actually all setup; they don't get to Camelot until #150.
IM #150 begins with Doom and Tony thrown back into the past; there's a fandom-famous splash page of them locked in combat, only to realize that they have found themselves in Camelot.
Tumblr media
They are then discovered by knights; Doom would very much like to attack them, but Tony, who naturally would be happy to LARP Camelot forever, persuades him to play nice. Also Doom thinks Iron Man is only Tony's bodyguard so he keeps referring to him as "lackey," much to Tony's annoyance. Somehow everyone thinks they're sorcerers. Can't imagine why. The knights take them to meet King Arthur himself, and Tony has clearly had his introduction all ready to go, as he introduces himself in a timeline-appropriate manner, says he's here to apprehend Doom, and demonstrates his "magic" by levitating Arthur's throne. Doom's response is essentially "I'm the king of Latveria," which is, y'know, also valid. So they're guests at Camelot for the night while Arthur figures out what to do with them.
We then have a page devoted to Tony alone in his room, musing sadly about how alien he feels, how he doesn't know if he'll ever get home, how he could never fit in here without his beloved technology. Then a Sexy Lady shows up to keep him company for the night, and he decides maybe it's not all bad. Thanks, Marvel. I guess they can't all be winners.
Doom is using his evening much more productively; he compels one of the servants to tell him where Morgan's castle is, because he's still interested in having that team-up. Then he jets off. Literally. He has a jetpack.
The next morning Arthur's like "one of you is still here and one of you has punched a hole through the castle wall and flown off to join Morgan so I guess I know which of you is more trustworthy." He then explains to Tony who Morgan is, because Tony professes ignorance, because clearly we had not yet retconned in Tony's love of Arthuriana. Tony offers to go fight Doom and Morgan with Arthur; meanwhile, Morgan and Doom have teamed up and Morgan has offered to help get Doom's mother out of hell if he commands her undead armies against Arthur because for Reasons she can't command them herself anymore. So that's a thing that happens.
So, yes, it's Tony and Arthur versus Doom and Morgan. Fight fight fight!
Tumblr media
Tony tries Doom first but then decides to hunt Morgan down, and in the ensuing fight we get what I think is Tony's first ever "I hate magic," a complaint that we all know he still makes even to this day.
Tumblr media
Anyway, Tony freezes a dragon with Freon (mmm, technology) and Morgan gets upset and disappears, so the battle comes to an end, and of course Doom is extremely mad at Tony because he blames Tony for Morgan not sticking around to save Doom's mom, because I guess Doom trusted her to keep her word? Weird. (Like I said, for the next chapter of Doom saving his mother, go read Triumph & Torment.)
Doom says if he and Tony work together, the components in both of their armors can send them both home. So Tony has to trust Doom. Which he does, because he really has no other choice. They build a time machine and Tony makes Doom agree to a 24-hour truce when they get back, so they can both get home. So it all works out okay, and they end up in the present, and Doom tells him, ominously, that they will meet again. Okay, then. That concludes the original Doomquest. It's fun! You can see why fandom likes it.
So that's all well and good, but you might have noticed that Tony's ability to get home hinged on Doom actually being trustworthy. And Doom was. But what if Doom hadn't been? What if he'd just stranded Tony in Camelot forever As you may have surmised from the form of that question, that is in fact a question Marvel asked themselves, because, yes, there's a What If about this! What If v1 #33 is "What if Iron Man was trapped in the time of King Arthur?"
The divergence point from canon, as you can probably guess, is the very end of Doomquest. Instead of Doom bringing Tony home, he deceives him and leaves him in Camelot. And since Tony cannibalized a lot of the tech from his armor to make the time machine, he doesn't have a way to go home.
Tumblr media
This is not a story where Tony comes up with a way to go home after all. He really doesn't get to go home. But instead of drowning his sorrows in mead -- because, remember, Demon in a Bottle has already happened and Tony is sober now -- he decides he might as well just play the hand he's dealt. So with what's left of his armor, he defeats some enemies that Morgan rounds up to send against Camelot. And for his services, he's knighted. He is now Sir Anthony.
Tony acknowledges that he is both living the dream and would also like very, very much to go home.
Tumblr media
He does end up having some fun in Camelot; it's not all miserable. But he obviously doesn't want to be there.
So if you're at all familiar with King Arthur, you know how this goes, right? Arthur fights Mordred and Mordred kills him. And that does happen in this version. Except Tony is right there, and with his dying words, Arthur asks Tony to rule Camelot... and Tony agrees.
Tumblr media
So, yes, Tony Stark becomes king of the Britons after Arthur's death and he never goes home again. The end. Man, I love What Ifs.
Heading back to main 616 continuity, there is still more of this arc to go. The original Doomquest was only two issues, yes, but it was popular enough that Layton & Michelinie did a sequel a hundred issues later, in their second run of Iron Man, and that's Iron Man #249-250, Recurring Knightmare. (In the intervening issues were Denny O'Neil's IM run, specifically the second drinking arc (#160-200), and then Layton & Michelinie came back and most famously gave us Armor Wars (#225-232). I would have to say that Armor Wars is definitely the standout fandom-favorite arc of their second IM run; for their first one, I think a lot of people would have a hard time choosing between Doomquest and Demon.) But anyway, yes. Recurring Knightmare.
Recurring Knightmare is... well, the best way I can describe it is "a trip." It is definitely a sequel to Doomquest, and it is also definitely not a sequel you  would ever have expected to see for Doomquest.
Much like #149, #249 is pretty much just setup. Fun setup, but the big action is in the next issue. We open with Doom in Latveria, on his throne, pondering which of his servants he should have disintegrated. Anyway, he's just hanging out there when a mysterious object appears. In California, Tony is suited up and entertaining the crowd at a mall opening when the same object also appears! He takes it to his lab. Please note that this is after the Kathy Dare incident, so Tony is still recovering and is walking with a cane. Doom sees on the news that Iron Man has found the same object, which cannot be carbon-dated, and he shows up at Tony's house. He criticizes Tony's taste in art.
Tumblr media
Anyway, Doom basically orders Tony to work with him. Tony refuses, and then Doom sends some robots to attempt to steal Tony's version of the object because he thinks if he has them both he will be powerful. Doom manages to steal it, and when he puts the pieces together, both he and Tony disappear.
So where do they go, you might ask? Camelot?
Not exactly. The future! There is a great callback to the Doomquest splash page.
Tumblr media
It turns out they are in London in 2093. Merlin brought them there. Tony still hates magic. And in the future, King Arthur is still there, except he is now a child, because he has been reborn. But he does remember Tony from Doomquest, at which point Tony kneels. Doom, of course, is not impressed. He asks why they have been brought to the future.
The answer is that things are going wrong in the future. If you do not personally remember United States politics in the 1980s, I need you to google the words "Strategic Defense Initiative" right now. I'll wait.
Back with me? Okay, so this is a future where Reagan's Star Wars program actually happened the way he wanted it to, and the satellites are still hanging around the Earth in the future and messing everything up, and Arthur and Merlin need Tony and Doom's help to stop them. Doom once again flies away with his jetpack, of course.
Tony is game to help, but he's not in an armor that can stay in space for long. This is when Merlin takes him and Arthur to the mall and Tony manages to get everything to upgrade his armor at Radio Shack. You see what I meant about this issue being weird.
Tumblr media
Tony is out in space trying to disarm the SDI platform, which is where he runs into his future descendant, Andros Stark, who is in armor you will probably recognize from Iron Man 2020. He is referred to as "the resurrected spawn of Iron Man 2020" so I assume he's actually directly related to Arno rather than a direct descendant of Tony; Wiki confirms that Arno is his grandfather. This is all from way before Arno was contemporaneous with Tony in canon. Anyway, he's fighting Tony.
Tumblr media
Oh, by the way, Future Doom exists. Future Doom would like to rule this future Earth and for some reason Andros would like to help him. Meanwhile, Present Doom finds out from Merlin that he can't leave except by magic and he can't leave without Tony, so he is reluctantly on Tony's side.
They need help from the Lady of the Lake, except the lake has been paved over and is now a parking lot. Merlin makes the lake come back and then of course they get Excalibur. Arthur is a kid, so he can't wield a longsword; Doom assumes he's going to take it because he is basically a king, and he's pretty grumpy when the sword picks Tony. Tony then uses Excalibur to destroy the space lasers, and I bet that is a sentence you never thought you would read. It's pretty cool. Tony concludes that magic has its good points. Tony stops Andros and Doom stops, uh, himself, and the world is saved and they get to go home. Also, Doom finds out Tony is Iron Man, but when Merlin sends them back he conveniently erases their memories, so neither of them remember anything about this and Tony's secret is still safe. And that's the sequel to Doomquest.
And if you think that's weird, wait until you see Legacy of Doom.
Iron Man: Legacy of Doom is a four-issue miniseries from 2008, also by Layton and Michelinie. Even though it's from 2008, it's set during a much more classic time in Iron Man, continuing on from where we left off in this Doomquest saga. We start with a framing story in 2008. Tony, who has Extremis now, is busy scrapping some of his older armors and reviewing his logs when he suddenly remembers that there was a whole thing with Doom that happened that he seems to have forgotten about until right now. So the whole thing is narrated by Tony in flashback.
Tony's in space fixing a satellite when a hologram of Doom shows up and summons him to Latveria. It's not really clear why Doom needs Tony's help in particular here, but Doom tells Tony that he's discovered that Mephisto would like to bring about the end of the world, which Doom finds, and I quote, "presumptive." So Doom has his Time Cube, and with it he takes Tony to hell.
(Yes, I promise this is relevant to Doomquest. There will be some Arthuriana shortly.)
Doom brings Tony to Mephisto, and it turns out it's a setup! Doom trades Tony for an item he wants from Mephisto, leaves, and Tony's going to be trapped in hell forever! Oh no! (I mean, he's not. But it's quite a cliffhanger.)
At the beginning of issue #2, we find out what the Arthurian connection is, which is that we learned that after the events of Doomquest, Morgan had been granted sanctuary by Mephisto in exchange for a shard of Excalibur that she had somehow stolen. Doom still wants Morgan's help with some magic -- he doesn't mention what it is here, but he says he needs someone of Pendragon blood, and that'd be her -- so he traded Tony to Mephisto in exchange for, I'm guessing, Morgan and the Excalibur shard.
I have probably mentioned this elsewhere, but Legacy of Doom #2 is one of my favorite issues of Iron Man ever, solely because of the next scene. We return to Tony in hell. Howard Stark is also in hell, and he is now a demon, and Tony has to fight him. Mephisto brings popcorn and watches. This is the one time in canon when Tony actually confronts his father, and okay, yes, it's a fistfight in hell and Howard is a demon, but that's comics for you. Howard spends several pages insulting Tony -- specifically insulting his masculinity, but that's a whole other essay -- until he finally insults Maria too, and that's when Tony fights back, because his mother taught him to be good. Honestly if you're a Tony fan I'd recommend this issue just for that scene.
Tumblr media
Anyway, we go back to the Doom and Morgan plot, and Morgan casts the spell Doom wanted, which was fusing the Excalibur shard with Doom's armor. Then Doom sends her back to Camelot rather than hell, because he's still mad that she never helped him get his mom out of hell like she said she would.
Tony freezes Howard with Freon -- yes, the same trick he pulled on the dragon back in Doomquest -- and tells him, "You're no father of mine." It is immensely satisfying.
Tumblr media
(I had been going to mention that I thought it was a shame that neither canon nor fandom seems to have really engaged with this confrontation, and I know canon never believes in narrative closure but fandom sure does -- and then, anyway, it occurred to me that since the framing story of Tony remembering this is set when Tony has Extremis, there's a very good chance that he no longer remembers remembering it. Goddammit, Marvel.)
(If I got to retcon one canon thing about Tony, I think "the entirety of World's Most Wanted" is up there. I mean, okay, a lot of things are up there, but WMW is definitely on the shortlist.)
Okay. Tony has now engineered his way out of hell, and he's back with Doom in Latveria. Doom has Excalibur. Doom would very much like to fight him. While wielding Excalibur. You get the sense that this is going to be bad. Another cliffhanger!
Legacy of Doom #3 opens with Tony destroying Doom's lab to buy time and running away from Doom and Excalibur. I should probably mention that Doom still doesn't know Tony is Iron Man (anymore), so he thinks he is dealing only with Iron Man, Tony Stark's lackey. Meanwhile, some scientists at SI think there's something weird going on with space. Meanwhile meanwhile, Tony is in a forest taking a breather when a mysterious old man walks up to him.
It's Merlin! Surprise! Merlin wants Tony's help to stop Doom from doing whatever he's doing with Excalibur. The sword makes you invincible and the scabbard makes you invulnerable, so Merlin sends Tony to Scotland on a fetch quest for the scabbard. Doom has now magically sent the sword in search of the scabbard, so the sword flies away to meet it and Doom follows. Turns out the thing that's wrong with space is a thing that's going to hit Earth at the exact place Tony and Doom are. What a coincidence! So Tony and Doom get trapped in a stone circle and fight some stone warriors and then Tony ends up with the scabbard. And by "ends up with," I mean it fuses to his armor. Next issue!
Legacy of Doom #4 is when things really, really get weird. A giant demon made of eyes (???) appears, and this demon is apparently what Doom had been preparing to fight (because it's mad that Doom stole one of its spellbooks), and now he can't, because the sword and the scabbard aren't together. Thanks, Shellhead.
That's when Merlin shows up and says all is not lost. They can defeat the demon... if they put the sword into the scabbard.
"But I'm the scabbard now!" Tony says, uncomprehending.
"Yes," Merlin says. "You are."
Then Tony gets it.
Tumblr media
So, yes, Doom has to, um, penetrate Tony. With Excalibur. I love comics. I love comics so much.
Tumblr media
So that's a thing that happens.
Tumblr media
And then Tony flies off and, I guess, resolves to never, ever think about any of this again.
We head back to the framing story, in which Tony, now having remembered all of this, flies to Britain, buys the land the lake is on, and paves it over, presumably so it will be there for Merlin to bring back in Iron Man #250. The end.
Whew.
Okay, yeah, I know I didn't have to summarize the whole thing, but Legacy of Doom here really is one of my favorite Iron Man miniseries. And I just want to share the love. Please read it. It's great.
But the Arthuriana fun doesn't end there! In fact, now we get an Arthurian-themed arc that actually isn't in Iron Man comics. It's in Avengers! Iron Man is involved, though.
(There is also apparently a Morgan arc in Avengers #240. I actually haven't read it. It seems to be yet another Spider-Woman arc. I get the impression that this isn't really Arthuriana other than having Morgan in it fighting Jess, though, so it doesn't seem quite as relevant. Morgan also apparently has some appearances in FF, Journey into Mystery, and Marvel Team-Up, but those seem like more of just basic villainy. Also, probably not involving Tony.)
Kurt Busiek's 1998 Avengers run, volume 3, is in large part the kind of Avengers run that is a nostalgic love letter to older comics. Heroes are heroes and villains are villains and good triumphs over evil. The Avengers all live in the mansion and are BFFs. I love it. It does assume that you are already a fan of the Avengers, because it starts out by summoning pretty much everyone who has ever been an Avenger and is available to the mansion, and that is... a lot of people. Thirty-nine, by my count. Also, when the entire team is magically whisked away, we are treated to the following narration, as Steve disappears: "And Captain America's last thought, as the world goes white around him, and he with it -- is that Iron Man would hate this."
Tumblr media
The narration doesn't tell you why Iron Man would hate this, or how Captain America would know that Iron Man hates this. This is not explained later on. But if you have read comics -- or if you have read the above summary of Doomquest -- you know that Tony is absolutely, one hundred percent, thinking, "I hate magic." And Steve knows it.
The reference is not relevant to the plot; if you don't get it, you'll be fine. But that's what I mean when I say this is a nostalgia run. There are definitely Easter eggs for people who have read a bunch of comics. Busiek does this a whole lot in his work -- there's a reason you can buy an annotated edition of Marvels -- and, yeah, it happens here too. Just know that there will be references you're not getting, if you're new to comics.
Anyway. So Busiek's run actually starts out with an Arthurian arc, #1-4, "The Morgan Conquest." The name is a dead giveaway. Yes, Morgan le Fay is back. Again. For once, Doom is not involved.
The Avengers are all back from their sojourn on Counter-Earth after fighting Onslaught -- don't worry about it -- and mysterious things are happening. There are a lot of monster attacks. So pretty much everyone who has ever been an Avenger is summoned to the mansion, at which point we learn from Thor about some mystical artifacts that are being stolen. (They are the Norn Stones and also the Twilight Sword. That sounds like something from a Zelda game, doesn't it?) The Avengers go to try to stop this, end up in Tintagel, and then they run into Mordred. He wants to capture Wanda, presumably for Magic Reasons. Morgan le Fay casts a spell on all of them, reshaping reality. Yes, all of them. Surprise!
So now all the Avengers are living in a medieval castle and/or town; Morgan is their queen, and thanks to the power of mind-control they are all basically living in Ye Olden Times. The Avengers are all some variety of knight, except for Wanda, who is chained up in the dungeon so Morgan can steal her magic and use it to fuel all this reality-warping.
Wanda calls for help, and that snaps Steve (Yeoman America!) out of the mind control (or altered reality or whatever you want to call it) pretty fast, because Steve's always been very good at resisting mind control, and then Steve promptly goes and snaps Clint out of it, because I guess Steve is also good at inspiring people to snap out of mind control. "Oh, man!" Clint says. "Not another alternate reality! Not again!" (I assume he's referring to Counter-Earth? Maybe?)
Tumblr media
So Steve and Clint go around reassembling the Avengers and orienting them as to reality. They get Jan and Monica easily, but then Steve insists on trying to get Tony because, I guess, he likes Tony and would really like to hang around Tony, who is half-naked and asleep in his bedroom, and certainly I am reading nothing whatsoever into this. Clint tells Steve it's not going to work. Tony has historically been fairly susceptible to mind control; it was only pretty recently at this point that he'd been doing Kang's bidding in The Crossing. But the more serious impediment is that this is Tony Stark and he would obviously like to LARP being a knight forever and ever. Tony, therefore, does not believe Steve, and throws him and Clint out of his bedroom and into the barracks.
Tumblr media
"Iron Man's a good guy, normally," Clint says. "But he's waaay too into his whole nobleman/lord of the manor trip. That spell musta hit him right where he lives!"
Tumblr media
Clint speaks the truth, clearly.
Anyway, they go around and manage to make pretty much every Avenger in the room other than Tony snap out, and attempt to rebel against Morgan while Tony is stil fighting them because he is Still A Knight. There's a lot of punching, because some of the Avengers still aren't free; they weren't ones Steve found.
The day is saved when Wanda manages to channel Wonder Man and break free. This gives the Avengers a fighting chance against Morgan and the Avengers are all lending Wanda their power when Tony finally snaps out of it and is on the side of good.
Tumblr media
Then they take Morgan down, go home, and attempt to figure out which of these thirty-nine people should be on the active Avengers team. Hooray.
But that's not the end of Morgan le Fay showing up to screw around with Tony's life! There's more to come! Not much, but there is one that I know of, and at least one more memorable reference.
(I haven't read all her appearances or anything, but one of them definitely involves Tony; I can't swear that he doesn't appear in any of the other books Morgan shows up in, but it'd be a cameo for him, because I only know of one more arc that she's in in a book that Tony stars in.)
In a few more years, we have now entered the part of Marvel Comics history where Brian Michael Bendis writes all the Avengers books at the same time for, like, seven years running. It was sure A Time. There were a lot of word bubbles.
And the thing about Bendis is, Bendis looooooves Doomquest. If you're familiar with the very end of his tenure at Marvel where he made Doom be Iron Man after Tony got knocked into a coma in Civil War II, you have probably figured out already that he likes Doom. But he also likes Doomquest, specifically.
I mean, if nothing else, the giant splash page in The Confession where Maleev redrew the climactic Doomquest fight while Bendis had Tony talk about how deeply meaningful to his understanding of the world this all was -- and how it allowed him to predict Civil War -- was probably a big clue, right?
Tumblr media
As far as I am aware, Morgan le Fay makes exactly one more appearance in Tony's life. And that's in Mighty Avengers vol 1 #9-11. Only one of those issues is named, so I'm going to assume the arc is named after it: Time Is On No One's Side.
You remember Mighty Avengers, right? The deal with the Avengers books at the time was that after Bendis exploded the mansion and made the team disband in Avengers Disassembled, the main Avengers book was no longer called just Avengers. Instead, the main Avengers book was New Avengers, and that was the only Avengers book. Then Civil War happened, Steve got killed, and New Avengers became the book about what was left of the SHRA resistance (i.e., Steve's side) after the war. So about halfway through New Avengers, Mighty Avengers starts up, and Mighty Avengers is about an extremely fucked-up and grief-stricken Tony Stark trying to run the official government-sanctioned Avengers team, with Carol's help. This is the comic with the arc where Tony turned into naked girl Ultron. You remember.
So, anyway, there's this Mighty Avengers arc where Doom is Up To Something (there are symbiotes and a satellite involved) and somehow Tony and the Avengers end up in Latveria, punching Doom. Also, by the way, Doom is visiting Morgan in the past because he likes her. The Avengers attacking his castle made him have to come back to the present, so he's kind of cranky. And he fights Tony, and in the course of the fight, his time platform explodes and sends Doom and Tony and also the Sentry to... the past.
This is one of those times where you should definitely look up the comics if possible because the way the past is visually indicated here is that it's colored with halftone dots the way you would expect old comics to be colored, although they have modern shading and color palettes. It's very charmingly retro.
Tumblr media
So the three of them are stuck in New York in the past, and naturally they would like to leave. There's one person in this time who has a time machine and it is, of course, Reed Richards. Doom and Tony have a lot of banter in this arc; I think it's entertaining.
Tumblr media
Sentry has to be the one to break them all into the Baxter Building because of that power he has where no one will remember him. So they do that, travel forward in time, and end up in Latveria in the present again except Doom is gone and also things are currently exploding where they are.
Doom, of course, has made a side trip to visit Morgan again and he asks her to help him build an army, because I guess this is what their relationship is like. So the rest of the Avengers are captured by what look to me like Mindless Ones and are in a cave in magic bondage, because comics. Jess comments that at least they aren't naked, because she too is remembering that memorable New Avengers trip to the Savage Land. Doom threatens Carol in some creepy sexist ways and eventually it turns out that Tony and the Sentry are fine and everyone kicks Doom's ass. Business as usual.
And the last page of the arc is Morgan alone, wondering where Doom is. So technically Morgan and Tony don't come face to face here, but I think she counts as being at least partially responsible for ruining Tony's day here. And then Secret Invasion happens and Tony has a very, very bad day.
There are a few more Morgan appearances after this, but, as I said, I don't think any of them involve Tony. She shows up in Dark Avengers, apparently, which was one of the post-Civil War Avengers titles I didn't read, and I know that recently, on the X-Men side of things, she's been in Tini Howard's Excalibur one, which I have only read a little of. No Tony there. Just a lot of Morgan and Betsy Braddock and Brian Braddock and the Otherworld.
If you are interested in Morgan's other appearances, you might like this Marvel listicle that is Morgan le Fay's six most malicious acts. I pulled some of the Darkhold backstory from their discussion, but it's not really focused on Morgan and Tony.
So there you have it! That's everything I know about Tony's love for King Arthur and every run-in I know about that he's had with Morgan le Fay! One of two terrible people in Tony's life named Morgan! Actually, I don't think we've seen Morgan Stark in a while. I wonder if he's alive. There should be a Morgan & Morgan team-up. I should probably stop typing and post this.
The tl;dr point is that you should all read Doomquest and its sequels, especially Legacy of Doom. They're great!

Since I finished all the Villainous episodes this morning here are some comments (?) I have to make about them :) spoilers ahead
I love the slight change in dynamic between Flug and Demencia. A lot less like two people who don’t see eye to eye at all, and it’s moved more to a chaotic sibling dynamic where they still fight a lot but they clearly don’t dislike one another and we even see that Dem is worried about him at the start of episode 6 in the initial confrontation with Heed. It just feels like it’s flowing so much more naturally and the way they can bounce off of each other now makes the episodes more entertaining, IMO.
That ghost girl from episode 2 Emilia was funny as hell tbh, and I loved her little cameo in the next one too. “He just hurt my feelings :/“ made me wheeze 💀
I remember Alan mentioning on a live stream BH would do something Dem considers flirting just to motivate her, which there’s a tiny fleck of in the second episode. I like that that was slightly put in there and then just left as to not just push this from 0-100 without it making sense. I had a feeling that bit of lore would be relevant later ;p and I was riiiight :)
It’s gotten even more drummed in it seems the whole “BH can overpower anything he wants” type thing. He just can’t be bothered to solve any of the issues with it 💀 Eg: Dem literally fights everyone in the room because of the parasite and then BH just calls it a day and it’s over in one SENTENCE SPOKEN.
The way the rickroll from last week was a hint to episode 4 I absolutely love that 💀 I draw the line at pirating headass.
Episode 6 HOLY SHIT. Just. Everything we got thrown at us then? Very excited to see that storyline continue there is so much to unpack there holy fu-

Disney Prince!AU with Seonghwa
★ Seonghwa as Disney’s Prince Charming ★
moodboard link
Group: ATEEZ
Member: Park Seonghwa
Genre: fluff, romance, hints of angst
part of the Disney Prince Series - could also be a prince!au
Type: Bulletpoint AU
Word Count: approx. 3k
A/N: I had to spice things up a bit bc after a rewatch of Cinderella, I have realized they have no flavor and got a bit carried away—so enjoy!
Warnings: family death + mentions of abusive family - you know the classic princess storyline.
Seonghwa….. is not your average prince
but it’s not depicted in a negative light
so, he’s the prince other nations wished they had
he’s very involved with the state of affairs, often spends time in the villages and conversing with the townsfolk, and often visits schools to read to them or just watch them and it’s so……...wholesome
*cut to him struggling to sit on the carpet with the kids bc his legs can’t fold*
basically everyone loves him because he’s got this angelic aura around him that just makes you feel like you can trust him with anything
and I mean anything
mothers would probably offer him their babies if that was appropriate
he’s just super sweet and tries to remember what he learns in order to take it back and make use of it with the current policies that the parliament is trying to endorse or something
obviously, this is the main image of him to the public
and it’s not fake
but those in the palace know he can get a bit mischievous and sassy
it’s only really seen by those who are close with him, or have been around for a longer time
like assistant!Hongjoong and head butler!Wooyoung
since they’re all close in age and grew up together too, they’re much more comfortable with one another
Hongjoong: *hits his head on a doorway*
Seonghwa: “......... are you an idiot?”
guard!Yeosang and butler-in-training!San: laughing
no, but for real, all of them know he’s basically an angel
the amount of shit he’s putting up with them, but like they make for great entertainment lmao
anyways
the older workers at the palace find him adorable
like when Seonghwa tried to sneak-eat the freshly picked strawberries
“my prince, did you just eat a strawberry?”
Seonghwa with a mouthful of them: “no”
he’s like the grandson they all want (and are trying to get, but we’ll get to that later)
other than his charities and visits and public outings, he’s also known to be a good horseback rider
like real good
Wooyoung: “this is the most princely we’ll ever see him”
he’s kidding, but he’s also not kidding
bc lbr: Seonghwa in a horseback riding fit with the shoulder pads and the helmet and the wind and
Wow
many gather to see him in his glorious, sweaty state afterwards
it’s funny bc he’s so handsome and there are times when he’ll acknowledge it and other times when he doesn’t
especially since the ateez boys just ignore him or tease him
now it just depends on how he feels that day as to how he’d react
since he’s got such a good reputation, you know what that means?
lots of treaties and lots of marriage proposals
on one hand, many nearby countries know how nice Prince Seonghwa is—and some thought he was naive enough to be deceived by them
and that led to a few wars, but they lost real bad bc they assumed he was too nice
when, in actuality, he’s very knowledgeable since he takes a lot after the king and the queen
that allowed much more respect for the kingdom, especially since he’s the first in line for the throne once he’s married
which leads to the second thing: he gets lots and lots of marriage proposals
have you SEEN him?????
do you know how CAPABLE he is????
helloo?????
anyways
the royal family kind of milks this—not in that way tho
it’s in the sense that it’s because they want him to find someone soon and there’s more time for them to learn the ropes about ruling a kingdom
that means lots of balls are thrown in hopes of Seonghwa finding someone to ~catch his eye~ and whatnot
but Seonghwa just uses this as a diplomatic advantage, you know? like a chance for him to meet other royals and build these relationships
and while he has good intentions, the rejected royals are kind of bitter, but they know better than to mess with the Royal Family
meanwhile, party planner!Yunho is lowkey racking in the dough from these events, so he’s fine throwing all these balls lmao
this is where you come in
but, it’s not how others might think
so, you used to be the daughter of a well-of-ish family—you had money for a house and caretakers who adored you and you with parents who loved you dearly
you lived in your own little bubble of love
but then your mother died
when she died, it was almost as if she had taken the lively atmosphere of the household with her
your father buried himself into his work, rarely making time for you anymore and…. there was a drift
one day he came home with a mysterious woman, proclaiming her as your stepmother
along with her came her two daughters, who were as ugly outside as they were on the inside
while you could have done without her passive-aggressiveness, it was nice to see your father happy
but lo-and-behold, you lucked out and he died on a business trip, leaving you alone with strangers to become your only family
it only got worse from there as they openly started to mock you, shame you and push you beyond your boundaries
as they could no longer pay for the staff, they also forced you to clean after them, cook for them, and make all the arrangements that they demanded
or, as your oh-so-lovely stepmother said “you’re below us and you will always be below us”
at first, you put up with it because there’s nowhere else for you
but, slowly, the idea of running away was starting to sound better
and the opportunity came as the palace was starting to look for more servants who would stay in the servants’ quarters
you immediately packed away your things, which wasn’t much to begin with—your mother’s locket being the major trinket you possessed
and ran off to work as a housekeeper, who hid away behind the palace walls and the public eye
since you clean for the palace, it also means cleaning after the balls
other than television appearances, you never really saw the royal family
even as you did work in the palace because……………. they’re running a goddamned country
but, of course, there are rumors and gossip with the other housekeepers which all come from reliable resources
**cough cough definitely Wooyoung cough cough**
so there’s a lot of what you heard, not really from what you’ve seen, despite what some might think when working in the palace
that was until you were called to work at your first ball
which meant you were cleaning after the tables and in the kitchens, going in and out of the ballroom and between dinner tables
getting glimpses of some of the royals
and picking up on some of their juicy conversations
(apparently this one duke almost had an affair with this king’s secret mistress… all the tea)
anyways
you get the point
every once in a while you have to work at the balls when they need the extra help
but, there was one that was…………. different
a lot of the balls are for the royals to take and engage and whatever, but there have been so many and Seonghwa………….
Seonghwa hasn’t been interested in a single one despite the purpose being to help him find someone
Hongjoong: “what’s wrong with them?”
Seonghwa: “there’s nothing wrong with them, I don’t want just someone”
Seonghwa: “I want it to happen naturally—call me old fashioned but if this is someone I want to spend the rest of my life with, it has to be someone who knows me”
Wooyoung, in the corner: “that is old fashioned, hasn’t he heard of tinder?”
advisor!Mingi: “I don’t think it would be a good look for the country if the prince is on tinder”
guard!Yeosang: “we should test it out”
butler-in-training!San: “omg reverse pretty woman”
Hongjoong: “everyone get out, you’re all useless”
okay, but like real talk: he’s such a romantic and the whole unofficial arranged marriage is just………. too much
so, his parents were like: so, you want more options?
Seonghwa: “not what I said”
and they expanded the invitation list for one night, meaning ANYONE had a shot with Seonghwa and
well
he is very popular, so you can imagine how many people were planning on coming and the staff (i.e. you) had to prepare for everything
for the week, the castle was bustling and you were running around to help out and it……. it was all so insane
and then it happens
you’re minding your own business and working and eavesdropping as one does when one works
because everyone is there and who doesn’t love listening to drama that isn’t just from fancy people
but since everyone is here
you failed to remember that a certain group of people were also there
the group of people being your step-mother and step sisters
instinctively, you ducked and hid, moving away from the main room that was swarmed with people who were all trying to obtain Seonghwa’s attention
(who was also trying to hide from everyone else and instinctively failing)
eventually, you found yourself in the gardens, where you tried to make yourself busy
but it ended up being a small walk through the gardens, picking up the occasional liter and small talk with the gardeners
the garden is huge, so you get a bit lost as you wander—physically and emotionally
meanwhile, Seonghwa managed to escape from the others with the help of the other ateez boys
major shoutout to Yunho and Jongho, who insisted on leading the cupid shuffle and cha cha slide
also Yeosang for blocking off people who were trying to shoot their shot with a tired Seonghwa who did not want any of this
he ended up in the gardens as well, walking down a small path with Yeosang trailing a bit farther behind
he spots you on a bench, admiring the flowers under the bright moonlight
and you were absolutely breath-taking
not wanting to disturb your peace, he tried to leave
only to knock into a garden gnome and catch your attention as he tries to not break it
You: “um”
Seonghwa: “I’m so sorry, I was just going to leave, I didn’t mean to disturb you”
You: he looks familiar
You: “I know you from somewhere”
Seonghwa: literally in the most extravagant suit and sparkle make-up as he’s still crouched on the ground trying not to break a gnome that cost like $5 at a Target
also Seonghwa: “have we met before?”
you exchange names and that’s when it clicks
You: “OH MY GOD. MY PRINCE.”
immediately, you try to curtsy or bow or whatever the royals make you do to the ground bc Seonghwa’s still at ground level
and Seonghwa’s just…………. scrambling to try to get you off the ground with flushed ears at you calling him your prince
Seonghwa: “please, you literally do not have to”
You: “I don’t want to be beheaded”
You: “plus, isn’t it like, illegal for me not to?”
Seonghwa: “well, I’m technically giving you orders not to…..”
You: well, can’t argue with that
you slowly get up and dust yourself off, unable to look at him in the eye
even from the corner of your eyes tho, you can see what the fuss is about
bc Seonghwa in that suit and hair swept back is hot™
You: “Prince,  I apologize if I’m speaking out of line, but shouldn’t you be inside?”
Seonghwa: “couldn’t I ask you the same thing?”
You: “but this is in your honor, not mine”
Seonghwa: “is it tho?”
Seonghwa: “I keep telling everyone I would like to fall in love on my own and yet………. everyone keeps meddling and making plans and now everyone in the kingdom is after me when I’m just trying to do my best for our citizens”
you’re a bit silent, unsure as to how to respond
Seonghwa: “I’m sorry for just dumping this on you, but, everyone keeps telling me I shouldn’t be so worried”
You: “well, Prince, I think what you need to hear is that your feelings are valid”
You: “it’s only natural for you to want to find someone on your own—freedom is something everyone wants, which is why it’s so hard to obtain”
there’s a bit of an awkward silence
for one bc you didn’t know what he was really like and if you were allowed to say something like that
two being that you didn’t know if you should leave
but he speaks up
Seonghwa: “you’re right—I did need that”
the air loosens a bit between the two of you
Seonghwa: “so, are you also hiding from an influx of suitors?”
you laugh a little, playing like a twinkling melody to Seonghwa’s ears
You: “no, but I am hiding from people”
Seonghwa: “it’s okay, you don’t have to share if you don’t want to”
you two get to spend a bit more time together, just chatting and getting to know one another
he’s really sweet, but also kind of goofy with a handful of cheesy pickup lines that definitely comes from spending too much time on the internet but also Wooyoung
the time is short but sweet
bc, before you know it, it strikes 12 and Hongjoong has a hold on him by bulldozing past Yeosang who just blinks at the small gust of wind
Hongjoong: “Seonghwa! your parents are looking for you! we gotta go!”
he greets you hastily, before grabbing a hold of Seonghwa and dragging him away—in which Seonghwa is still trying to get one last look at you before you disappear off into the night
or, in your case, back to the kitchen to avoid your stepfamily
the rest of the night passes as expected, at least for you as you busy yourself with washing dishes in the kitchen
but Seonghwa found himself like a mercat, poking his head around trying to find you every once in a while
the time you’d spent together was short, but it was the most fun he’s had at these balls
and it showed, as noted by Hongjoong and Wooyoung with the week that followed after
he was spacing out, wondering what could have been if things were different
basically, homeboy was sulking bc he didn’t know when he could see you again or if you had someone or if you were even interested
Hongjoong: “how are we supposed to help him when we don’t even know who it is?”
Mingi: “didn’t you get a glimpse?”
Hongjoong: “I was busy with other things”
Wooyoung: “so you didn’t even ask for a name?”
Yeosang: “it’s (Y/N)”
all the boys:
Hongjoong: “how do you know that?”
Yeosang: “I was eavesdropping”
San: “um—”
Wooyoung: “wait, we know (Y/N)”
Yunho: “so am I throwing another party or?”
Wooyoung: “we can find (Y/N) first and then throw a party”
so, they kind of hunt you down to where you’re cleaning for the day
and Wooyoung asks you about Seonghwa
lowkey bc he wants the tea but also bc he wanted to make sure you’re not one of those insane people that are completely obsessed with him
(considering what he had to witness during that last ball)
and after passing his vibe check
he sends you to the library “to clean”
which is odd because you already cleaned it for the week but
Wooyoung: “I’m technically your boss, so go”
You: weirded out
also you: “okay”
little did you know, Seonghwa was already there, occupying himself with some new books while Hongjoong and Yeosang were keeping an eye out for you
who was lowkey trying to hide in the shadows and failing miserably bc of all the goddamned windows
Seonghwa spots your shadow, quickly getting up and following you
Seonghwa: “wait! (Y/N)?”
you turn around, a bit startled from the call out
Seonghwa: “I thought it was you”
you give a small bow to greet him
You: “my prince”
Seonghwa: “you can just call me Seonghwa”
Seonghwa: “I didn’t know you were here”
You: “I didn’t know you were here either”
he lets out a small chuckle
Seonghwa: “I meant I didn’t know you were staying in the castle”
You: “I’m not just staying here, I work here prin—Seonghwa”
Seonghwa: “well I guess that makes finding you a bit easier around here”
You: “you were looking for me?”
Seonghwa: “well, I like your company”
You: flushed
Seonghwa: “do you enjoy mine?”
You: “I’d be glad to bask in your presence”
and for a moment, it’s just the two of you
*cut to Hongjoong and Yeosang high-fiving in the back*
after that, the two of you spend more time together
it’s cute bc Seonghwa also likes to clean (which explains why there were never housekeepers needed for him)
so it means he also helps you clean and still have fun doing it
speaking of which, you got to find out how domestic he is and it melts your heart every time
especially when he’s interacting with children who visit the castle
so you can tell he really wants a family
bc he’s so good with kids and knows how to take care of people and what more can you really ask for
he’s also a great listener
like he really knows what you need based on what you tell him
and when you opened up to him about what happened at home
he was just such a big sweetheart about it, asking if you’re okay and checking with you emotionally and it
I LOVE PARK SEONGHWA SO MUCH
anyways
so his parents did find out bc Wooyoung has a big mouth and def blabbed to San and everyone else in the goddamned kingdom who knows Wooyoung
rip Seonghwa
also rip everyone in the kingdom who found out bc again
Seonghwa is very desired amongst many
which also led to a lot of jealous people who gossiped about you but jokes on them bc you still have Seonghwa at the end of the day and they have jack shit :)
back to what I was saying
when his parents found out, they were totally accepting of it considering how happy the two of you are
(also you were lowkey fearful they were just gonna straight up kill you bc you aren’t royal, but also, they’re good rulers who care about people)
which also meant they wanted to train you to help him run the kingdom but that’s a different story
anyways, prince charming!Seonghwa is indeed very charming
and gentlemanly and all that other good stuff

LINK IS RIGHT HERE
Now the pluggings out of the way, we’ve come to our second chapter and the first of several flashbacks as every even numbered issue from here on out is a mix of the present day and flashbacks going into one of the characters. In this case it’s the cast having various memories of the now dead and throughly vile comedian that help both build the supsect list on how who killed him and flesh out the world after the hints given last time. IT’s a great device and one that was brought about.. because the guys realized the story needed more and thus added it.. though they had to add a little something else to help make it to 12 issues, but we’ll see that later. Still it works as the flashback issues fill in the character and even with my vaugest memories I know each one has a unique format and scenario , and every one has a present day storyline that helps move the story along. It’s a brilliant way to keep the pacing up, as no story momentum is lost, while still giving us the vital character information we need for this to be oh so painfully real. So join me under the cut as we salute to an absent “friend” and flash back to how said friend was just the worst. Content Warning: Due to the subject, this review contains mentions of sexual assault and violence. Discretion is advised.
Previously on Watchmen:In a world where superheroes had breifly existed but most had been forced into retirment by the law, A through bastard who likes to wear a gimp suit with an american flag on it got thrown out a window on his off time, leading to an alex jones inkblot to go looking for it, depressing his former best friend, calling a guy gay, breaking another guy’s hand for no real reason and defending a man who raped one of his interviews mother so much she had her naked blue husband shoo him away.
We open with two scenes going simultationously, we see Dr. Manhattan pull up to the funeral, wearing a formal suit suprisingly given how detached he is. Though i’ts likely Alan Moore didn’t want to detract from the solemn, moody atmosphere with a blue man’s glowing junk.
Laurie meanwhile is Calforni MIA as she’s gone to visit her mother, the dialouge of their conversation overlaping with the cold grey new york funeral at times.  Sally, Laurie’s mom, also bipasses her daughter’s attempt to sidestep what’s going on, as she knows The Comedian died and suprisingly has forgiven him for nearly raping her, something that baffles Laurie.
From there it’s a decent amount of passive agressive sniping from Sally, who complains about new york, not happy her daughter is living a state away (and got here via naked blue man teleporting), calling Dr. Manhattan a human bomb that just needs to get laid once in a while which while accurate isn’t something you say to said bomb’s wife, and making caughing noises instead of just.. telling her daughter to put out a cigarette she lit in a small cramped room. Outside of the last one.. she’s out of bounds, basically crticizing her daughters life despite not having been the best part of it. She also whips out a tijuana bible, basically a tiny rarely lisecnesed porn comic from the 40′s because it reminds her of being young. But her reason for it is heartbreaking as it reminds her of better times... though reminding her of better times as this world inches closer to armageddon. And given the times we live in where throngs of people actively want an open insusrectionest back in teh white house... I know how she feels.  It’s during all this we get our first flashback.. I just held it back as after this the next three are in rapid succesion, each following one of our “modern” heroes, followed by one more that’s incredibly plot important to close us out i’ll get to. As such it’s easier to recap going through the five flashbacks in order rather than having Sally’s intercut then going into three basically in a row. And shockingly not much happens at the funeral despite being a superhero funeral. Whlie there usually aren’t attacks there’s usually more words but here all men just sit solemnly and silently and remember the bastard their mourning. It works though as each flashback shows something Awful Eddie Blake did.. and thus..
Tumblr media
As every one of them knew what a bastard he was and even if the flashback in paticular didn’t spring them to action, it could provide some motivation later. Granted i’m sure most of you reading this know who done it, but back then the mystery at the center wasn’t an open secret most comic fans know due to one of the most iconic lines in comic book history. Anyways time for some flashbacks! Sally’s Flashback:
It’s the 40′s or 50′s and The Minutemen are having their photo taken. The Minutemen are like the Justice Society.. though this world’s justice league never got off the ground but we’ll get to that next.  We’ll get more into them in this issue’s under the hood chapters, but point is their having publicity photo’s taken and Sally goes to change.. only for Eddie to accost her and say she “wanted it” by dressing that way. before touching her.. and when she fights back.. he overpowers her and prepares to assault her. While we only learned about it second hand last time, and as we see here Nite Owl learned the same way as he wasn’t present, The Comedian DID try assaulting Sally Jupiter, only stopped by Hooded Justice beating the crap out of him . Who then procedes to berate sally telling her to “get up and cover herself” because he was a dick.
I will say this assault scene.. is horrifying. It’s well written, showing Sally’s struggle, and not treating it once for titlation, showing just how violent and horribile it is. But it’s also one done right: it’s necessary to the character, to the plot as Nite Owl went public with this incident in Under the Hood so Dan, Hollis and Sally all have reason to want to cave his skull in: Dan to do what his mentor would “want” to, Hollis to get payback out of love for sally or something, and Sally to get vengance for her mom. And , especially for the time, it dosen’t ignore Sally’s feelings: the art shows how scared she is and the last shot shows her beaten up not for shock.. but to show how horrifically she’s treated for being nearly raped. That somehow to Hooded Justice it’s “her fault for wearing skimpy clothing” even though she just got changed, you sociopath.
I bring this up because I feel a lot of writers after this.. abused women just for shock value or to support a male character. Even Alan Moore himself had Barbra Gordon shot just to motivate her dad after this. But I feel a lot of later writers took the wrong message: that adding assault makes a work edgy and screams..
Tumblr media
Instead of you know, ONLY using it if your going to treat such a horrific and nightmarish subject with the utmost grace and care. Invincible is a good example of this in a way I won’t get into as the series will likely cover this at some point and to it’s further credit did so by covering a male heroes assault, as men getting raped is usually treated for comedy or some such crap.
Instead we’ve gotten shit like retconning in Sue Dibny being raped to justify the mindwipe part of Identity Crisis or that time mark millar had a villian character force two siblings to have sex and then wired the uterus so if she aborted it, it’d kill her or render her infertle or some such garbage. And thankfully we haven’t gotten shit like this lately and times have changed, and I don’t put having to put up with this shit for so long on Moore. Alan Moore simply wrote a story that included an assault in it and for the time did decently, showing Sally’s view point as valid: it still effects her but didn’t stop her from living her life. Granted there are elements we’ll get to that aren’t great later but for 1986, this is a great attempt. He was not the first or last comic book writer to do this, I simply feel like with rorschach a lot of writers took it as necessary to be “edgy” instead of you knokw SOMETHING THAT STILL FUCKING HAPPENS WAY TOO OFTEN AND SHOULD BE TREADED CAREFULLY YA DICKS.
Adrian’s Flashback:
Now we get to Ozymandis’.. which is easily the most important out of them and the most iconic as it’s time for the first and last meeting of The Crimebusters, a failed attempt at making a new team after the minutemen. And your probably asking “Wait so then whose the Watchmen if neither superhero group is” the Simple answer
Tumblr media
The Watchmen is based on a phrase from an old poem , originally “who guards the guards themselves”, i.e. “who holds those with power acountable.” It’s not a bad title.. but I do see why both the unshot film script from the 80′s and the Snyder film changed the Crimebusters to well.. The Watchmen.. as did one of the greatest videos of all time
youtube
Though I do think the Crimebusters name works in it’s context: It’s goofy and outdated even for the 60′s in which they were almost formed. It’s to show this idea is a relic and unwieldly even from the name. Watchemen sounds just a tad too slick for that, but I also don’t blame adaptations for... actually wanting the name to mean something besides something metaphorical. It’s easier to market and such and makes a tad more sense. But I also can’t blame Moore and Davis in a work tha’ts intetonally subversive.. for subverting expectations by not having a group named the Watchmen at any point.
So the would-be crimebusters are made up of our main cast and lead by.. Captain Metropolis.

Cap was one of the Minutemen and was active till his death, which happened before the Keene Act and before the present day of the narrative, thus he vanished. He’s a corny old man at this point trying to tuck in his paunch who wants to unite these mostly powerless heroes to change the world. He’s also a tad conservative and more than a tad racist and sexist if you take a look at what he thinks society’s problems are.
Tumblr media
Out of the four only drugs can be a problem. Being anti-war, having lots of sex as long as your safe or wanting a fair fucking deal in this country.. those are all fair. So it’s not a huge shock he gets laughed out of the room by one of them and even less that it’s the Comedian. Who is a MASSIVE dick about it but again, is doing this to a guy who not only thinks guys in costumes can “solve promiscuity”. Neither of this come out of this with any dignity. WHile the others try to defend nelson they end up leaving as Comedian’s thorughly humilated the guy and proven an organized superhero team.. just can’t fix larger issues.  Which is true though they CAN try: Batman may be best known for punching the joker in the groin, but he does spend time as bruce in most iterations donating money to causes, trying to rebuild gotham and help the bigger issues he can’t batman away. Superman is a reporter not to make himself look good (He leaves that to his wife who did so long before she knew it was him), but to help ferret out the injustices superman can’t. Heroes DO try to do what they can in civlian livfes.. it’s just a lot of them, as is the case for most of the cast here are just normal people in costumes. Only Manhattan can really effect change as we’ll learn in a second. and even he more or less just does what he’s asked to.  I do feel this isn’t perfect as A) due to the nature of this world superpowers are mostly a non-factor outside of Jon so the major argument against superheroes taking action in the world is moot and B) since them more and more heroes have taken a stance and some don’t simply because they don’t have the time or means to really change the world powers or not. But it’s still an effective scene and it’s ending panel is one of the best in the entire work. And I know i’m rereading it in progress.. but it’s one that sums up the work, has been homaged quite a bit and sums up the work nicely
Tumblr media
Also two last notes before this: The focus on Ozymandis.. and the fact Lauries been side eyeing john all night.. in front of his wife. And she’s noticed him looking back.
Tumblr media
Jon’s Flashback:
It’s the waning days of the Vietnam War.. and i’ts here we hit one of the more iconic bits of the comic as here.. it didn’t last very long thanks to Dr. Manhattan.  Nixon pointing him at the the Vietcong, he blew a bunch of them up and they surrendered so while they were there for at  least a few months... it still ended in the decisive win we didn’t get and Nixon becoming president, with the Comedian insuring said presdency as it’s implied he killed woodward and bernstiein. So our heroes CAN impact history.. it’s a question of if it was the right thing. This change was really just so Moore could tackle reganism using a face Regan fans wouldn’t care if he skewered, as talked about last time, but it still works to show the impact these characters had on the world: just because superheroes didn’t last for LONG dosen’t mean they didn’t change the world a lot. It reinforces the point though: they didn’t effect change through being costumed heroes: they effected changes through black ops and having the power of a god.
So Peacemaker wants to skeedaddle as soon as possible and the Dad part soon becomes apparent as a vietamise woman approaches him.. pregnant. Naturally Blake’s quick to abandon them so she rightfully slashes his face with a broken beer bottle.. only for blake to shoot her to death, likely dooming his child. And while he’s an absolute monster for this.. he points out Jon is’nt much better: he COULD’VE stopped it but for whatever reason didn’t. Comedian points out Jon is becoming more distant, cold: he wasn’t there for Jenny before their divorce or whatever, won’t be there for sally forever.. and god help us all when he’s there for no one at all. Still glad he’s dead.. I mean you can be right about a naked superman slowly growing detached from relaity and still be the monster who shot a pregnant woman in the belly. Those two things arne’t exclusive. Anyone with eyes can see Jon’s slowly drifting from humanity.
Dan’s Flashback:
Dan’s takes us to right before the Keene Act: Police are striking in protest over masked heroes.. whcih given they’ll strike over having to take a vaccine or being called out on being racist in present day isn’t suprising. Naturally this forces the heroes into the rough position of holding back people who already hate them.  And the comedian showed Dan the dirtier side of costumed hero.. when someone, instead of trying to protect people imposes their will with comedian RELISHING in getting to opress the masses while it nearly breaks Dan explaning WHY he quit: he likely worried about becoming a monster like Eddy the longer he kept the costume on.
Moloch’s Flashback:
So the funeral ends as we get a great panel of Dan throwing the button in the casket.. and see the same end is near pickiter from last issue watching someone leave the funeral.. and we get a pretty clear reveal who he is as next we see the guy Rorschach jumps him, revealing he saw the guy at the funeral.. and given we didn’t see rorschach there it had to be someone we saw. But it’s also clever in that you only notice it if you already know or your paying close attention.
Anyways as for why he’s attacking this guy this guy, as the header I have gives away is Moloch. As for who that is he was a nemisis of both generations of crime fighting whose long since retired and spent the 70′s in jail, and who isn’t sure why he went.. until he reveals the Comedian crashed into his place one night while incredibly drunk.
And so our final flashback is Edward Blake rambling like all hell, talking about “an island” , some sort of conspericy involving Janey Slater, Manhattan’s ex, and how messed up it makes him, the pregnant woman and child killer, feel.  And it makes you feel horrified as Blake: after all if someone we’ve seen do the worst a man could do feels bad aabout what this secret conspiracy is planning... just WHAT is at it’s heart. IT’s also a nice bait and switch: before this it came off as revenge: edward blake was a rightfully and widely hated asshole.. but now some like dan drop off. Something bigger is going on that Comedian was let in on and again someone this horrible was freaked out by it.
Tumblr media
So the conversatoin ends with Rorshach pointing out illegal drugs.. that turn out to be highly questionable cancer drugs which Moloch explains he needs as he has cancer.. as for what kind..
Tumblr media
So Shackers in a rare show of decency lets the guy go and heads off into the night for another rambly monologue. But we do get a hell of a moment as he explains who Blake is..
Tumblr media
It dosen’t make him a good person.. but it makes him understandable, a man who saw society was broken and decided to treat it like a joke and help break it more instead of trying to make it any better. Life was a joke.. and the jokes on him.
So with that we get one final solemn shot as Shack Attack takes a rose from the grave and puts it on his lapel in memory.
TO BE CONTINUED...
“Absent Friends’ is a wonderful second chapter, adding a lot of depth and shading to the world and to who Edward blake does while ramping up the mystery: what bigger scheme is at hand and who wanted him dead bad enough to keep a lid on it? or did he know something and the death was just a concidence? Find out next month.. well okay don’t because obviously they aren’t going to reveal who killed him two issues in , but do come back to watch some more watchmen.. but first as always
Under the Hood Chapters 3 and 4:
So  more of Hollis’ career. The third chapter is intresting to read, just not to recap: Hollis spent several months training, picking up the “nite owl” moniker from a mocking co-workers, and having to use Spirit Gum, a thetrical glue , to keep his mask to his face after someone nearly killed him putting it down and obscuring his vision. It’s good stuff showing how a 40′s era hero would get started.
The meat though is in chapter 4, where we get the formation of the minutemen. More Masked Heroes had been showing up so Captain Metropolis, much like his failed attempt in the 60′s, decided to form a team and called the only one he knew who had a public phone number: silk spectre, since her husband had set up her career as a publiclity shoot. As such the heroes of the time: Captain Metropolis, Silk Spectre, Nite Owl, Moth Man, Silhoutte, The Comedian and Hooded Justice became the Minutemen and fought crime and caught publiclity. But eventually.. the group fractured: Dollar Bill died due to getting his cape caught in the door, Siloutte was drummed out thanks to her sexuality and murdered by an old foe(Something Hollis and Sally both deeply regret) and Sally eventually retired, leaving the group to quitely disband.. and to inspire another generation to Hollis’ regret.
Some small stray notes here: HOllis also points out the team were some degress of messed up the worst of them being Captain Metropolis, who as I pointed out earlier was racist and was apparently open about that and Hooded Justice who supported the nazis apparently. Though one of the sequels would take him in a decidly non racist direction. But that’s not for here. Point is it’s another good pair of chapters of intresting stuff

Fighting for my family ~ Rhea Ripley x fem! reader.
Tumblr media
The morning sun beamed in through the window and straight into your face. You rolled over into the chest of your fiancée, Rhea Ripley. Her arms tighten around you, tangling your arms with hers. “Good morning sunshine” Her morning voice was deeper and raspier than her normal voice. You groan as you bury your face deeper into her chest trying to avoid the reality that you will have to leave the safe haven that is your hotel room bed. Rhea laughs at your attempt to hide away from your responsibilities. She starts to move to leave the bed much to your protests. “Come on sleeping beauty, I have to go shower and I think we both know you’d like to join me” Rhea leaves the bed and walks into the bathroom leaving the door open behind her. “Damn it! Your good” You had no choice but to leave your fort of comfort to join your fiancée in the bathroom before you have to leave.
Coming out of the bathroom after showering and drying your hair, you and Rhea jump slightly when your phone blasts out your ringtone. You rush over to check it and see it's your dad. You look back to see Rhea staring back at you with a raised eyebrow at the identification of the caller. ‘Dad’ you mouth before picking up. “Hey Pops” You try to sound as cheery as possible but you already know what he’s calling about. “Y/N! Where are you? Do you know what time it is?” You check your phone and see it’s 9:30, You’re half an hour late for the morning meeting at the WWE headquarters. “Ugh shit, I must have overslept, I’m on my way now.” You’re lying through your teeth but your dad seems happy enough with your excuse as he ends the calls after a quick “Get your butt her ASAP” after hanging up you realize you’re still naked and rush around to find your clothes to get dressed. “Overslept huh?” Rhea says interrupting your hunt for your pants. “Rhea” you warn, knowing what she’s going to say next. “I know I know, you can’t tell your family because they’d never accept it but Jesus Y/N, we’re engaged. We’re getting married like to each other in less than a year and-” You interrupt Rhea as your frustrations get the better of you. “Rhea! I love you and I love your family but you don’t understand my family wouldn’t accept us. Being Shane McMahon’s daughter means I have to fit a certain mould. If they found out about us… I don't know what they’d do.” You break eye contact with Rhea to locate your shirt after zipping up your jeans. “You told Steph and she was fine with it. All I’m saying is I’m tired of being your little secret.” You freeze at Rhea’s cold words. “Rhea-” You know you don’t have a good defence to her claims but still she interrupts you. “Don’t. Just don’t. I’ll see you later at the P.C.” and with that she turned on her heels and reentered the bathroom, leaving you in stunned defeated silence.
You arrive at headquarters a half an hour later with a guilty pit in your stomach. Rhea’s words ringing in your head as you sit in the meeting room, hearing your family bicker around you about the product and the plans of this and that and the other. You worked on NXT with Uncle Paul and William Regal, that's how you met Rhea in the first place. Onscreen you were a commentator with Vic Joseph and Wade Barrett, you were damn good as well. You had been commentating for the last 5 years and you loved every minute of it. “Y/N!” You’re snapped out of your thoughts to the realization that the entire board meeting is staring at you. You straight up in your seat “pardon?” You try your best to at least sound polite despite the fact you hadn’t heard a damn thing that was said. Your Grandfather stared daggers into you as he began to speak again. “Well, had you been listening you would have heard that we are setting a storyline between yourself and adam cole into motion as soon as possible” Your face scrunches in confusion as you speak up. “Wait what? Why?” your voice comes out more frantic and high pitched than you had hoped. Triple H turned in his chair to address you “Well we want to put Adam in a program against Johnny again but Adam needs someone to balance out against Candice” Like Beetlejuice or the devil himself, there's a knock on the meeting room door, Vince breaks into a grin as he welcomes the interruption in and in walks Adam Cole with his infamous smirk already pasted onto his face.
“Adam! So glad you could join us” Triple H warmly welcomes the UE leader as he sits as close as possible to you in the seat next to you. Why him? Of all people, it just had to be him. When you started your job as a commentator he made it his business to berate your work on Twitter until he came to NXT where he could belittle you in person. You can already tell this will be a horrible time for you. “I’m so glad to be here Paul, Vince thank you so much for this opportunity and Y/N, you actually look really good today, good job” Adam’s voice rang through your head as he made it his mission to get under your skin as soon as possible. Thankfully Vince intervenes in Adam's mission but that tankful feeling is short-lived “Well Adam we’re thankful you suggested this story and we truly feel that Y/N is a perfect fit.” You turn in shock back towards Adam only to come face to face with that sly smirk that you wished you could scrape off his face with your boot. “Wait, how can I have a storyline against Candice if I’ve never wrestled before?” You took a leap of faith, hoping that someone would see how insane this was and put an end to it but alas no luck. “Oh don't worry sweetheart you won’t be getting your pretty little hands dirty in an actual match or anything but if we need you for a brawl or something I’m sure I could teach you a thing or two.” Adam punctuates his sentence with a wink, he leaned in closer to whisper “or maybe you could ask your little friend Rhea for help, I’m sure she’d be more than happy to help ya out”
The blood rushed away from your head. You felt like you had been sucker-punched, how dare he? Did he know? No surely not. How could he possibly know! Your father, Grandfather and Uncle had carried on the conversation so they had missed Adam’s potential bombshell but they brought the two of you back into the conversation when Shane said: “So what do you think Y/N?” You felt all eyes in the boardroom on you as the pit in your stomach grew and grew and you had hoped it would swallow you whole. “Sure, I’ll give it a shot for a week.” the second you agree the entire room erupts as scripting the rest of NXT begins. Once the meeting is dismissed you rush back to your car to call Rhea but you’re interrupted by your father as you near the exit. “Jeez, someone’s in a hurry, where’s the fire?” Shane laughs out as he stands between you and the exit. “Oh sorry dad, just wanted to go back to the hotel because I forgot my laptop” Your eyes were darting around to avoid your father’s gaze. “Is it important sweetie because I need you to run a few errands for me” your eyes snap to your father. You know you’ll look suspicious if you turn down your father but you need to talk to Rhea ASAP. “Will it take long?” you begrudgingly grumble.
That's what put you in this situation now. You were running around the performance centre helping out with the writing and distribution of the scripts for the NXT tapings tonight. The hours before NXT were ticking away and your anxiety about your new “storyline” was only building and building. Before you knew it, it was showtime and you were rushing out to the commentary desk, nearly shaking with nerves. You almost physically facepalmed when you remembered that you haven't spoken to Rhea and your storyline was starting tonight. Your stomach sank as the show began, you had to put on your game face but inside you were dreading tonight's events. The show ticked by and you calmed as the storyline slipped to the back of your mind as you focused on the action happening in front of you. Before you could even truly settle in to enjoy the episode of NXT that you were commentating on, the main event came and the air was knocked out of your lungs when you realized what you had to do in less than 15 minutes.
The main event of the show was going to build towards the men's war game, Pat Mcafee would approach the commentary desk and cut a promo on Vic and Wade, then he will turn his attention to you and start to insult you before Adam run down to be your knight in sweaty armour to save you from the big bad football man thus starting an on-screen relationship between you and Adam. The segment was going so far so good, Pat was doing his job and Adam came to your defence exactly on time. Just as you're about to sit back down at your desk Adam suddenly grabs your hand and kisses your knuckles before he struts back up the ramp to close out the show with Undisputed Era standing tall. If you didn't have to act like a blushing little schoolgirl then you might have thrown up at Cole’s horrible attempt at romance. The show finished and you gathered your things from the commentary desk to return backstage. You politely say good night to your coworkers as you pass by them on your way out to your car to return to your car. The drive back to the hotel was quicker than you expected. The exhaustion of a long filming day was settling into your bones as you entered the hotel and made your way up to your room.
The loud beep of the key card being accepted rang through your ears as you pushed through the door. The door clicked behind you as you dropped your bags and coat on the floor with an unenthusiastic thud. You see Rhea is already on the sofa in the room and once your eyes fall on your fiancee, you quickly move towards her to fall into her arms. “So you and Cole huh?” it feels like your heart stops beating, shit… you never warned Rhea about your new storyline. “Baby, I’m sorry I-” you start to apologize but Rhea cuts you off “Don’t baby me Y/N, What the fuck was that? You can’t tell your family about your fiancee but you can give fuck me eyes to Adam cole on national TV?? I can’t believe you sometimes” you hang your head in shame as the severity of the situation settled in. “Rhea, I’m sorry. I meant to tell you beforehand but I didn't have a moment to myself at all today” You start to explain yourself but Rhea rolls her eyes at your excuse. “Enough Y/N… enough, I’m done with being your dirty little secret. I love you more than anything but I can't stand it as you allow your family to play pretend with you.” Rhea was standing now as you both stood eye to eye, you were only 3 feet apart but it felt like an ocean between you both. Your eyes brimming with tears as Rhea starts to walk past you. “Rhea, please.” She doesn’t stop and once you hear the door open and close behind, you break out in sobs. The future of your engagement lies in your ability to come clean to your family.
The phrase hell hath no fury as a woman scorned never rang truer than you making your way into WWE HQ to meet with your family to reclaim your destiny. You realize you’ll have to get your father alone to tell him about your relationship with Rhea first before hopefully, you both go to your grandfather to scrap the Adam Cole storyline. So as you sit down to the morning meeting, you already feel yourself zoning out as you work out what you’ll say to your father later on. The meeting goes by faster than expected but sadly the meeting deviates towards the future of yours and Cole’s storyline. “You want to book a WHAT?!” your shock overtakes your body as you nearly yell at your grandfather. “Well Y/N. As you should have guessed by now the end goal of this storyline will be a wedding angle between the two of you, I think the fans will love it. it was trending last night.” Vine had his selling hat on but you weren't having it. You were ready to put your foot down and finally stand up to your family before the doors to the meeting room burst open.
Rhea stood at the entrance of the room, a shocked silence fell over the meeting room. “Rhea, how can we help you?” Triple H breaks the silence. “Oh, you could help me out her trips, How bout you give me my fiancee back?” Your heart skipped a beat as your knight in shining armour came to rescue you. “Excuse me?” Vince's confusion echoes through the room as your breath catches in your throat as you stand from your seat. All eyes in the room dart to you as you finally catch the courage to speak. “It’s me, I’m her fiancee, I have been for months and they’ve been the happiest months of my life.” you and Rhea lock eyes and smile at each other. “Excuse me? I can't believe you Y/N, how could you not have told us this?” Your father stared up at you with a shocked expression on his face. “Jesus Christ Dad, how would I tell you? You never listen to me anyway. At every meeting, I’ve ever been at you’ve all ignored my input. Then you forced me into a dumb storyline with that idiot Cole and then you wanted me to marry HIM? I’m gay dad and I love her and I refuse to be ashamed of my love anymore”
After your rant, you move towards Rhea to hold her hand and lead her out of the meeting room. “Let’s get out of her babe” you put on your best cool girl face as you lead your gorgeous fiancee away from HQ. Rhea suddenly stops your stride and you snap back towards her, “You wanna do something crazy?” you furrow your brows at your fiancee’s question. “Go on?” she’s piqued your interest now so you java to know. “Let’s just go to Vegas and get married now” The request takes you by surprise but the answer leaves you as if it's been sitting in your brain for years. “Yes, let’s go right now” You both break into giggles as you run towards your (hopefully long and happy) life together!

Various Fake Dating HCs
Various situations that require fake dating from there’s a creep, to a school play,  and how it becomes real
AN/Yall know the drill. Caffeine, sugar, no sleep, binge writing session with no edits. That said if anyone catches a mistake please let me know Todoroki’s got a little away from me (def. was not 2 pages worth of google docs nope not me wrong writer) Enjoy!
Characters: Deku, Bakugou, Kaminari, Shinsou, Todoroki
Word Count: 2520
Requests Open
Warnings: Mentions harassment
Deku
Mineta wasn’t the only creep on campus and you were Class 1-E’s lucky lady as he called you thinking he was God’s gift to women
After 2 weeks of annoying you everyday after class was enough
You’d complained to Deku and Uraka about it before so he was well aware of the jerk
When he approached you at lunch you couldn’t take it anymore
The moment he left you’d plopped your forehead onto Deku’s shoulder and asked Deku to help you out offering to buy him lunch for the week in return
He wasn’t sure how he could - he knew he couldn’t intimidate the guy like Kirishima or Bakugou so he wasn’t sure what you wanted
When you explained he’d gone pink but agreed
Since then he’d held your hand, helped you study, and called you honey and sweets when the creep was in earshot
It took the jerk a while to realize you weren’t interested for some reason when he did though Deku kept up all the sweet gestures
You told him a week after the last encounter with the creep that he could stop
He’d just murmured (thinking you couldn’t here) “I don’t want to”
You’d given him a kiss on the check and realizing you’d heard he’d launched into one of his patented spiels saying of course if you weren’t interested, and he still was focused on becoming the number 1 hero, and and and
You’d wait for him to finish and look up at from the floor before giving him a smile and asking where he wanted to go on your first official date
Bakugou
It was his idea believe it or not. You both were good friends and after his internship he had several dedicates “fans” They’d gone so far as to track him down and asked him out incessantly
The first time he’d scoffed and told them to get loss with his usual tact, that is to say none
After that when they’d followed him everyday from the gates of UA he’d blown up at them, literally
Most of them were properly scared off by this or at least more reserved 1 girl just couldn’t take a hint
You and Bakugou had been sent to get snacks for movie night later and SHE was as always waiting on Bakugou
He’d groaned seeing her and whispered in you ear to play along
Snaked his arms dangerously low around your waist, pulled you close
He purposefully didn’t look at her pretending he hadn’t already seen her
When you were out of the gates he spun you around and trapped you against the wall leaning in to whisper to you thanking you for playing along he asked if he could kiss you
You grabbed his face and pulled it towards your own
When you broke apart he smirked then pretended to take notice of the girl telling her off for spying on him and his girlfriend
You walked up behind him as he yelled at the girl and glared daggers at her
She wasn’t happy about it but between both your threats she finally backed off (though she would occasionally pop up at public UA events)
You were always with the Bakusquad so it was an easy matter to plant a kiss on his check and motion you were watching her in case she felt like trying anything
Neither of you were ready for or wanted a real relationship so that was as far as it went in high school but you keep in contact and who knows what the future holds
It did become a running joke how you two were such a lovey dovey couple in between the cursing each other out and harder than necessary slugs to the shoulder
Kaminari
You two flirted like there was no tomorrow
Eventually everyone assumed you were dating bc who else flirts with every breath
One night you were running late and Kirishima had asked Denki “Where’s your girlfriend”
It took him a second bc as much as you both flirted it was never serious
You’d popped in not a minute later and Kaminari had thrown his arm around you dramatically declaring “MY BEAUTIFUL GIRLFRIEND IS HERE” for everyone to here
You looked at him quizzically and snorted
He managed to pull you away from the group and convince you it'd be a great joke to see how long you could convince the gang you were dating and how much drama you could create in your fake “relationship”
You were plotting soap opera level storylines by the end of the night
After a week of scheming and late night writing session you started your personal drama with a dramatic monologue to the girls before class on how Kaminari had forgotten your so important 1 week-aversy
-They’d consoled you and told you guys care about stuff but if you did you should talk to Kaminari
By lunch everyone had heard and Bakugou had a betting pool on how long the happy couple would last - Kaminari tried to join but was banned
Week 3 had the suspected cheating scandal - that had earned you a lecture from Kirishima on how it wasn’t manly to cheat and you assuring him nothing had actually happened
By week 5 the two of you had a regular date scheming night
During week 6 when Kirishima was “buzzed” after overusing his quirk he confessed to loving your (nonexistent) identical twin who conveniently went to another school and you had never spoken of bc she had stolen you last boyfriend
Towards the end of the term during date night Denki dropped to one knee proposing a proposal story line you’d burst out laughing when he grabbed a slap bracelet (He’d gotten from goodness knows where) and slapped it onto your wrist
At least take me on a real date first you’d joked - then frozen hoping he hadn’t heard
He had. He took the slap bracelet off, still on one knee and said (Y/N) will you take this slap bracelet and go out with me for realizes I mean
You’d ceremoniously take the slap bracelet and try to carefully put it on your wrist, treasuring it - slap bracelets can’t be gently moved though so it snapped up immediately as you said “I do”
Shinsou
It wasn’t planned by either of you
You didn’t even know people though you were dating until a picture of the two of you showed up in the schools gossip column and someone pointed it out to you at lunch
Shinsou just nodded his head and sighed saying “that makes sense”
You had no idea what he was going on about - you found out that people had been kinder to him this morning some. Guys approached him about his “game” and some girl had talked to him saying if he was with you he couldn’t be as scary as he seemed
You to were close and you knew how much it hurt him that people were scared of him bc of his quirk
You were sitting so you leaned over and gave him a side hug promising him it would be okay
That hug went down the grapevine and “confirmed” your relationship
By the time someone directly asked you about Shinsou the two of you had talked and agreed to let slide neither of you liked anyone and it was helping Shinsou so where was the harm
You didn’t go out of your way to appear as a couple but you were friendly and people were prone to misinterpretation
Shinsou certainly wasn’t a social butterfly but he certainly wasn’t seen as scary and his friend group grew
2 months into your “relationship” Shinsou had a girl confess to him she liked him
He was taken aback she hadn’t talked to him the entirety of last term and suddenly she liked him
She had been scared of him unlike you. Unlike you, something clicked for Shinsou and the rest of the week he found himself comparing other girls to you and realized he may truly be in love with you
By the time he came round to that realization you had made your own. Maybe people had thought you two were a couple bc you hung out with him more, hugged him more, smiled at him more, and liked him more and differently than your other friends. You  maybe even loved him
At lunch he was the one who reached out and touched you, lightly settling his hand on yours and asking if you wanted to be more than a rumor
Todoroki
Can we say emotional trauma
In literature class there’d been a project to perform a Kyogen as a part of their classic lit unit - you’d loved it even if you’d been graded more on the accompanying essay of the evolution of language and classism than the performance part
When you saw there was a school play you hasn’t hesitated to audition bc the kyogen performance had been so fun
You hadn’t gotten the lead role you wanted but you were more than fine playing a the female lead’s best friend who got swept off her feet by the quiet tortured poet
As soon as you saw who you’d been cast as you immediately checked who your love interest was. It was none other than Shoto Todoroki
You were really nervous the first rehearsal that focused on your sections
You knew Todoroki only by reputation, as a aloof and focused student
You had no clue what he was doing in the play so you asked. He didn’t tell you the first day instead just did a read through
The entire time the drama teacher kept saying “More Emotion” and “You’re in love so SMILE” you were pretty sure it was directed at Todoroki who was barely beyond monotone
The director requested Todoroki stay after rehearsal for extra practice. As his scene partner you stayed too
During on of these he explained during the kyogen project he’d felt different in his everyday life when he was pretending to be happy or angry compared to when he tried to show no emotion
The director had called that moment a breakthrough. You smiled at him and asked whatever made him think that showing no emotion was in any way a good idea. He didn’t answer you
You made it your mission from then on to get him to show emotion. Of course that was the director’s job on stage. You made it your mission everyday though.
You would have friends pass him notes for you in between classes, eat lunch with him, and had a bad joke of the day hoping to catch him roll his eyes rather than just stare ahead eating robotically
Eventually he started to show cracks in the armour, he would smile when you made funny faces backstage, or say he was upset which wasn’t much but baby steps
There were days he reverted to mono-emotionalism (that emotion being bored) on those days you eventually decided your best course was just to annoy him to death or even better till he said he was annoyed this came in the form of you lightly hitting you arm on his head, singing the 100 digits of pi song on loop, or running and jumping at him (he would always catch you knowing his choices were that or be bowled over)
Those days became fewer and further between as you got closer to the play. There was one particular bad day though. You’d been trying all day to get a reaction, good or bad, out of him with nothing working.
He was sitting on the floor during practice. You dropped beside him and leaned back till your head was in his lap and started asking “What’s up with you?”
You didn’t finish your question bc he shoved you out of his lap and stormed off
Your scenes that day weren’t great to say the least
By the end of practice you were just drained, you really were trying to help, and instead you’d hurt him and that hurt as much as him pushing you away and saying he didn’t need you
The next day you had Deku hand him a note saying you were sorry
You didn’t try to reach out to him the rest of the day, sat with your own friends at lunch, and didn’t bother him between scenes during practice
It was a week before you two spoke and that was only on the blocking of the last scene the leads ran to each other as you two cheered and hugged
Tech week was hell week for 2 reasons 1. The general tiredness and overwhelmingness that always come with tech and 2 you were practically glued to Todoroki’s hip the entire play for 3 run throughs a day and you still weren’t really speaking
Opening night you saw Todoroki pacing half an hour before curtain call. You were headed back to the dressing room to help some of the other girls with their makeup but he looked stressed.
You waved not wanting to startle him. He looked up from his pacing feet and just stared at you
“I’m not here to annoy you. You just look stressed and I wanted to say it’ll be fine and um break a leg. Anyway I’ll leave you to your pacing.” You said before starting to leave
He doesn’t move to stop you from leaving but he stares you down and starts talking, spewing all the feelings that have been building up (that he doesn’t understand) He’s nervous around you. Why is he nervous around you? He’s mad at himself for making you sad that day. You didn’t talk to him. He didn’t know what to do so he let you not talk to him. His miserable and he misses you he thinks. He tried talking to Deku but Deku just told him that he needed to talk to you about these feelings so he didn’t say anything more to Deku. He has all these feeling and doesn’t know why?
You walk towards him and ask if it’s okay to hug him
He gives the smallest nod
You wrap him in the tightest hug you possibly can and lean your head into his chest. He eventually rests his head on top of yours and awkwardly wraps his hands around your back
When you pull away he looks at you for a moment before telling you your makeup looks nice
You have to run to help the girls with their makeup you remember but make him promise to talk after the show
You two talk and by the final curtain call your on stage hug has somehow become a chaste peck on the cheek.
He pays for your post set strike theater crew Denny’s meal with Endeavour's stolen credit card and asks if it counts as a date if there are 20 other people with you

Thoughts on Bridgerton: From a Book-reader’s perspective
I thought I was prepared for this adaption to be different from the novels, but apparently I was not as prepared as I thought I had been. The tone is different from the series of books, which this being a shondaland production, it was one of the main things I was expecting. The drama has to be upped, and once I did finally come to terms with the show being as different as it was, and completely separating it from the books in my mind, I really got to truly enjoy it. Be prepared, there is lots of unorganized rambling below as well as spoilers.
Some exact scenes were kept from the novel, and there were plenty of nods to fans. There were so many bees, and also hints to season two. Anthony will be looking for his Viscountess, and there is even mention of his favorite Pall Mall mallet at Aubrey Hall.
As someone who doesn’t really care for The Duke and I to begin with, it’s ranked pretty low out of all the books in the series on my personal list, I still found myself excited for this adaption, and enjoying it as well. As a production goes, this series is gorgeous. There are so many sweeping shots, and the cinematography as well as camera play in some shots are just *chef’s kiss*. This thing had so much money thrown at it, and you can tell. I was a fan of all the new storylines, because it brought something fresh to the table for book-readers, and I like how certain characters that don’t come in to play until later in the book series were already introduced.
While there may be some differences, this series still played out like a romance novel. Couple meets, couple goes on a journey to fall in love, drama occurs, then gets resolved, and the couple is in love in the end with a promise of happily ever after. I think some people thought the happy ending was the way for the show to resolve in case netflix doesn’t pick up a second season, but this is just how romance novels are. Simon and Daphne’s story has now been told, and now it’s on the next sibling (Anthony) to find love, even if unwittingly. Simon and Daphne will definitely make appearances in the next season, but they will no longer be considered the main characters.
As far as pacing goes, which was one of my main issues with the show, I think I came to terms with that too. There are so many characters in this show, kind of like in GOT, so it makes sense that it would hop from scene to scene in order to keep track of what everyone is up to. I did like that aspect in GOT, even if they had a terrible ending, and I think I finally started to like it here.
Okay, now on to things they added that I loved. We get to see so much more Benedict than in the book series, and I am really enjoying his character. Luke Thompson brings this loveable, goofiness to the character that I’m really enjoying. I also love the fact that he and Eloise are so close. It’s nice getting these new aspects to the siblings’ relationships with one another. I also loved how fleshed out Eloise already is, as well as her friendship with Penelope of course. The Queen was a new character I wasn’t sure about, but she definitely brings and extraness and drama to the show that I ended up enjoying, and lord my heart went out to her too during that scene with the king.
As for Marina and Sienna, my heart goes out to them, though especially for Marina. She felt she was forced into a corner, and was doing what she thought was her only option. And for a woman in her situation in that time period, she really would be without very many options. I just hate that it’s clear she is on her downward spiral, and I hate that they are going to use her eventual death as more drama for Penelope’s character. As for Penelope, they have made Whistledown a little darker, but I can understand why she would pull a move like she did. She’s 17, hurt and angry, and lashing out. She felt backed into a corner too, even if it was to a lesser extent than Marina was. Also, I loved that they revealed to the audience who Lady Whistledown is. I think this will provide some interesting drama going forward, especially since Queen Charlotte is trying desperately to unmask her.
I love that Lord Featherington was killed off, and I’m interested to see who is in line to take his place. The Featheringtons didn’t get much time in the books, so their storylines have definitely been interesting to see in the the show.
It was pointed out to me that the siblings all refer to one another as “brother” and “sister” quite a lot, and now I can’t not notice it. I’m not sure if this is so it can be hammered into the audiences’ brain who is related to who, or maybe they just thought people never referred to one another by name back then. I’m not sure. I’m also not sure why Francesca was used so little as well. It’s true that she is not in the books very often either, and even in her own story it’s revealed that she is more of the blacksheep of the family. She’s introverted, and a little more quiet than her boisterous siblings. She loves her family, but she also loves being off doing her own thing. Knowing all this, I’m not sure if this is the writer’s attempt to try and establish this in her character, or if they simply weren’t sure what to do with her all season, so off to Bath she was sent.
Is this netflix series perfect? No. It has it’s issues. For one, I’m not sure why they kept That Scene in. I’m so glad it was as short as it was, because I think the show honestly made it worse. In a novel written almost over twenty years ago, I can understand why it’s there, especially when the scene in question comes across as more of a dubious consent situation considering how ignorant Daphne is about sex. The show makes it seem much more planned out, and then afterwards it’s just kind of glossed over? This show kind of tends to do that with other issues too. Like racism and feminism. Regardless, this show still makes the racists mad, and I’m always here for that.
If you’re wanting a glitzy, rompy, true love prevailing period drama to take your mind off our current reality, check out Bridgerton, and piss a racist off in the process.

Party Fouls
This is a one shot set in the Universe of my story, Woodward! It takes place two years before the main story which you don’t have to read to understand this but I’d love if you did, it has very little to do with the main storyline, and there’s just a hint of g/t which I may expand on later which is why I’m posting it here.
Aeran (he/they) is an antimonarchist size shifting/shape shifting ex bard who loves bad decisions and Halys (he/him) is an extremely uppity prince.
(Content warning: abuse of alcohol*, using alcohol as a coping mechanism, flirting while intoxicated, fade to black implications, *fae get drunk on honey)
Aeran didn’t want to be here. He didn’t need to be here. He wasn’t here to play, none of his friends were here, and it wasn’t part of any contract he was entangled in. So... why was he here? Well, hopefully to forget that he was here in the first place.
Aeran liked to tell himself he didn’t drink often. He used to just avoid it when he could- honey could be good on the throat in small doses, but singing when your teeth were stuck together was as hard as it sounded, and his decision making skills had never been the best when he’d had more than a cup.
But sometimes he needed a break. Especially now that Steller could be left to his own devices, once every couple of months he could slink away to a revel and allow himself to go numb. Steller didn’t know- the poor kid would probably tear Aeran a new one if he knew the fae was purposefully getting drunk to quiet his mind. But what else would he be doing? Just waiting around for the world to pass by until he found a way out of court?
He huffed a laugh into his glass. Steller had told him that one time his dad had brought him to a music festival, and a drunk man had thrown up all over his dad’s shirt and they ended up going home early. Human alcohol didn’t work on him, but... he still desperately wanted to go to one of those. He wondered how simultaneously tame and exhilarating it would be.
“Shouldn’t you be singing?” A voice snapped him out of his reverie. He choked a bit when he looked up and realized who had interrupted his monthly mind-numbing. Prince Halys, professional princeling and certified downer, was standing in front of him in all his wintery glory. Dressed in his usual furs and finery, he looked regal enough, but he was missing his crown, which Aeran didn’t think he’d ever seen before. Halys was of a height with Aeran, but had a willowy frame that might have made him seem less threatening if you didn’t know who he was. Aeran knew Halys in the way everyone did, but he also knew him from when he was playing as the court musician. He knew Halys well enough to know that the prince was currently very out of his element.
And very, very, drunk.
“What do you mean, your highness?” Aeran asked nonchalantly, tacking on the honorific as to avoid any offense. He’d done this for years. He knew how to handle himself, even if he was starting to feel a little fuzzy, and the man he was honoring was quickly losing the blue pallor of his cheeks to a light purple blush.
“Well, you’re… you’re a bard. You sing, you play multiple instruments. That’s what you do. This is a party, don’t they want you to play for them?” Ah. Prince Halys, always so focused on the jobs people should be doing. He must not have heard.
“I’m sorry to disappoint, your highness, but I do not play in public anymore. I haven’t since I stopped playing at court. I am… taking a break.” The full truth was he only ever now played for Steller, and occasionally Prince Pieridae, but he didn’t think the flowers that grew around the spring prince were that good at listening, so he didn’t consider his audiences to be larger than two members.
“Really?” Halys replied, his nose wrinkling in distaste, “But you’re so good at it. Surely you would rather spend time improving your already abundant skills than letting them decay without use,” Aeran gave the prince a smile.
“Your highness, I didn’t know you felt that way,” Aeran watched with growing delight as the purple deepened on Halys’s skin, “about my music.” The prince huffed and crossed his arms, and Aeran’s eyes followed the nearly empty stein in his hand.
“Everyone feels that way about your music!” He said loudly, not quite shouting, and a few nymphs who had gotten close to them jumped and moved away. Aeran glanced down, already expecting the shards of ice that had appeared around the Prince’s feet. Seemed Halys wasn’t as in control as he typically appeared to be. Aeran looked around.
“Your highness, perhaps we should move away from this area, you can continue telling me about what a mistake I’m making in wasting my talents in a less crowded space,” Something flickered in Halys’s eyes at Aeran’s suggestion, but Aeran chalked it up to the mead.
Halys nodded. “... perhaps.”
The prince was surprisingly easy to lead into the quiet hall. Aeran didn’t have a lot of magic, especially now without any of his instruments, so he couldn’t do much to help either of them sober up, but the blush had started to fade from the prince’s face, so perhaps he had a higher tolerance than he let on. Besides, a part of him desperately wanted to see more of the Queen’s perfect child be not so perfect. Luckily, Halys didn’t need any prompting.
“Everyone feels that way about your music. Mother wouldn’t pick just anyone to play for us,” Halys obviously thought this was a compliment, but Aeran scowled in response, and the winter prince looked at him strangely, questioning.
“I honor the Queen, but I care little for her taste in music.” He said sharply. He prayed that he hadn’t overstepped and that the prince wouldn’t run back to his mother to inform her of how rude her former bard had been. Halys didn’t even blink.
“But you’re so good at it,” Halys repeated, softer this time, and Aeran had to stop himself from physically reacting to the shift in tone. “And,” He stepped closer, “You always looked… so pretty…”
The prince was definitely well within arms reach at this point and was staring intently at Aeran’s face. Aeran felt his smile widen despite himself, but he had a large enough sliver of self restraint to hold up his arm.
“You’re drunk, Halys,” he said firmly, dropping the formalities. If the prince wanted him in the way it was starting to seem then he didn’t expect it to matter, “You are not thinking clearly,” the prince didn’t falter at Aeran’s lack of propriety, only shook his head.
“I am more clear headed than you think,” he frowned, “I didn’t think this would be so hard,”
“What would be so hard?” Aeran asked.
“Talking to you… flirting.” He said the last word quietly, but Aeran’s brain had already stuttered to a halt. He remembered being younger, with pitch black eyes watching him from behind a terrifying throne. He wondered at what point this idea had gotten into the prince’s head.
“I don’t know,” Aeran said softly. “I think you’re doing a fairly decent job so far.”
For the first time that night, and possibly ever, a smile appeared on the prince of winter’s face, and the last of Aeran’s good judgement stepped back.
“You were always so pretty when you sang,” Halys murmured, stepping closer once more and pushing against the hand that Aeran hadn’t realized he was still holding up. “I miss you when the court grows tiresome.”
Aeran felt more than he saw Halys’s arms wrap around his neck, as if the prince were pulling himself up, even if Halys wasn’t much shorter. Aeran considered transforming, shrinking and fluttering away. Shrinking and clinging to the prince’s furs, maybe, not letting go. He considered being frozen into an ice statue. He considered being watched by sad, cold eyes, as he ran from this.
He considered what a good distraction this would be compared to honey-wine.
‘This a is bad idea. The Queen would kill me if she knew. My head gone from my shoulders. Wings torn from my back.’ Halys lips pressed against his own, his arms wrapped securely around the back of his neck like his scarf. Comforting. Trapping.
‘Such a bad idea,’ He thought, pressing back.

The Devil Judge - Episode 6
Hi again! I just finished watching Episode 6 and man I was not prepared for any of it.
At all.
From the first time since they introduced Elijah to the storyline, she is portrayed as a teenager who despises her uncle for allegedly killing her father, but the a few episodes later they shows her softer side,She might hate Yohan but at the end of the day he is the only living family she has.
So the possibilities are that she masks her worries for Yohan behind the anger because sometimes, years worth of anger and pain might overpower any other emotions we have.
It is genuinely endearing to see that despite her openly showing her hatred towards him, she also pays close attention to him. For an example she knows that he doesn’t have a love life, or that he never stays out overnight. These are little things that she observes but never shows.
When Ga On and Elijah are talking, something that occurred to me is that she is just a child.
She’s 16.
The storyline makes us think about all the suffering for Ga On and Yohan but even Elijah carries a lot of it. All she has left is Yohan, but she has to live every single day wondering if he truly killed her father or not. She doesn’t have anyone she can talk to and that’s a lot on her plate to carry it all into her adulthood.
Elijah says “Yohan ruins everything that is close to him”
My guess is that he doesn’t do it in an intentional, destructive way but because everything that he has seen since childhood is violence, deceit, abuse, selfishness and destruction. May be pushing people away is his way of keeping them safe because I highly doubt that he received the help and the closure he needed when he was a child.
The child actors are so so so good! Their acting and the way they let out emotions through their eyes was amazing!
In the beginning, when Kang Yohan makes Sun Ah jump, for a split second it makes the viewers think that he has been a manipulator since an early age, but then as the story progresses,
he catches her stealing multiple times and interestingly, he hears her telling the caretaker that she is worried about him because he is leaving the basement a lot and that she is worried about him when she, was the one who suggested that he go out when his father was not around,
Tumblr media
Imagine being in an abusive household, getting another child who is roughly your age trying to see it you could connect with only for her to start playing games.
He didn’t trust her then and he doesn’t trust her now, she never gave him a reason to.
I don’t think her interest in him is on a romantic light at all, it is more of an obsessive love.
Yohan saying “threats are useless, because I have nothing I wish to protect” is really just a bad move from his side.
So he doesn’t have Elijah? He doesn’t have an annoying little pest living in his house who resembles his brother?
Him saying that will only motivate her to dig deep to find what matter to him.
When he asks her what she wants and she says that she doesn’t care who he goes after as long as he stays away from the SR Foundation, it made me think that she is not stupid.
She is cunning and she just knows that telling Yohan to stay away from the foundation will only make him do the exact opposite. So there is a chance that it could be a trap?
Why did she take the cross chain from Yohan? Two possibilities, either it’s because she still likes it, or because she knows that it IS precious to Yohan, if she has it, she also has a reason to make him come back to her.
Tumblr media
Coming to Elijah’s growing attachment to Kim Ga On,
he cares for her like a father would to his daughter, he cooks for her, he makes an effort to spend time with her, he covered her while she is sleeping etc.
No matter how much she tried to push him away, he is still there, he is becoming a constant in her life.
I’m not saying that Yohan doesn’t care for her.
Nobody cares for her more than he does probably but Yohan doesn’t openly show it.
When you’re a child, sometimes the thing you need the most is a solid presence of an adult and what she doesn’t get through Yohan, she gets through Ga On and well.. he also looks exactly like her father.
So it makes sense that she is showing a sort of a possessive attachment towards Ga On as if she is afraid that she will lose the one constant in her life.
It was wrong for Ga On to take Elijah out to meet Soo Hyun without asking Yohan first and it was also wrong of Yohan to chuck him to the wall like a ragdoll and to accuse him of taking Elijah to see a cop.
It’s obvious why Yohan is worried about his niece after everything that went down with Jung Sun Ah, but i feel like he shouldn’t have hinted towards going after Soo Hyun just to make a point.
Tumblr media
Because for Ga On, Soo Hyun is all he has. He is already too neck deep into the Lion’s den and having the spotlight on Soo Hyun is a trigger for him.
The scene with Minister Cha and the other two women.
That was definitely Elite vs. Elite.
They are all at the same social status but when the times call for it, Minister Cha has the ability to make them drop to their knees.
The interaction between Jung Sun Ah and Minister Cha initially began with insults being thrown, belittling Sun Ah but now it has developed to a place where they help each other.
Minister Cha helps Sun Ah with the Foundation work and in return, Sun Ah helps her with taking revenge on Yohan.
Terrifyingly interesting.
Jung Sun Ah knows that Kim Ga On means something to Yohan, her first target is Ga On himself.
When it comes to Ga On, Min Jung Ho is a father figure, she already had a plan in mind when she made that biker lady trick Ga On.
When he asks Min Jung Ho, even he says that he suspects Kang Yohan and Yohan already threatened Soo Hyun so in his mind, the gears will start to work because he knows from experience that Kang Yohan really doesn’t mind going berserk when he wants someone out of his way.
Then the attention comes to Oh Jin Joo. Sun Ah is smart for this. The way she slowly poisons Jin Joo’s mind with that whole conversation about only men’s pictures being on the wall, for a moment is feels like she is encouraging Jin Joo to be ambitious but later! When the two associate judges are together, you just know that Sun Ah already got inside Jin Joo’s head when she goes “does he look down on me or something?”
Tumblr media
Oh Jin Joo idolizes Yohan. So for her to slowly turn against him..
So technically her plan is to turn the baby associates against Yohan.
Bad lady
Coming back to Ga On struggling, he keeps seeing things that makes him rethink his intuitions when it comes to Yohan.
Tumblr media
First it was the children playing with the ruler and now it’s a group of weird cult going around flogging people because “According to Kang Yohan, he will accept people’s wishes and flog terrible human beings”
So once again, the public adapting barbaric punishments from what they see in court, does make Ga On rethink about his choices.
Soo Hyun’s Attack
Obviously Yohan is keeping tabs on both Soo Hyun and Ga On, but then again, the drama really has their way of making the viewers think hard, For an instance,
The phone conversation Yohan has, the guy says “there is a chance she might know about the transfer”
Indicating that, to viewers again it makes us think that Kang Yohan really may have had something to do with the bribing or that they might actually go after Soo Hyun, but we all know that Yohan would never and it was pretty obvious who it was with the gloved hand,
So in conclusion,
biker lady attacks Soo Hyun, takes the passbook, gives it to Sun Ah who then plots with Minister Cha but unfortunately,
The threat Yohan made against Soo Hyun is too fresh in Ga On’s mind so obviously he suspect him first,
They highlighted that god damn German scissor too many times in Episode 6 and of course it is the same scissor Yohan stabs literal inches away from Bambi’s face.
Which was really an intricate scene, Jinyoung and Jisung as actors played it so beautifully. The unhinged anger and the disappointment in Yohan and the way Ga On realized that the man behind him is actually genuinely dangerous.
You can see the exact moment when that fear and realization sinks in Ga On.
Tumblr media
That Yohan could hurt him badly if he wanted to.
Ga On functions on emotions when he’s not being a judge, so if he had actually taken a breather before provoking his boss with violent tendencies, he might have realized that Kang Yohan is just too smart to do something like that so out in the open.
There’s no doubt that Yohan really lets Ga On get away with a lot of shit he does.
Tumblr media
But for some reason, the way he warned Ga On to never again attack him, felt like his first and last warning to me.
I absolutely LOVED the way Minister Cha thought that Yohan would crumble in front of her but my man just tells her to do whatever she wants… she should know that he wouldn’t be Kang Yohan if he didn’t wasn’t hundreds of steps ahead of them.
Tumblr media
Something that I admired in the last scene is despite how annoyed or how mad Oh Jin Joo and Kim Ga On are at Yohan, when things get heated professionally, the two baby associates were so worried about him and they were completely ready to stand by his side even when they didn’t know any actual detail. Proud of my babies 🥺
But then, Kang Yohan accepting the allegations and Dr. Safety’s random appearance right at that moment seemed a little sus.
Almost too well timed.
Kang Yohan confidently asking the public to judge him because he knows that the public is on his side especially now that the reason for the money transfer is out in the open.
Kang Yohan’s decision of counterattacking the the Dream House Project right when the public take his side was a very smart move.
It was Minister Cha who tried to drag him through the mud but in turn he targets every single one of them socialites.
The last part felt like he was actually declaring war. The drama isn’t about poor vs. rich. It’s all about the internal works of the powerful class and I can’t wait to see how intense everything is going to be.
Lastly, the preview for Episode 7.
Why on earth did Yohan decide to bring out Ga On’s parents’ death and their case to the media?
Why take him to the jail?
Why rip open wounds from 13 years ago?
I know it’s stupid to jump in to theories and conclusions before we watch the episode because he always has a reason for everything he does,
But it made me think for a second was it because he wants to push Ga On to the limit until he breaks to the point where he has to solely rely on Yohan?
Because i get that Min Jung Ho is the parental figure in Ga On’s life but if Ga On were to ask him intense questions about his parents case, Min Jung Ho wouldn’t be completely honest with him, probably for Ga On’s safety but also there might be somethings that needs to stay hidden,
But Kang Yohan isn’t like that. He would be blunt and brutally honest if Ga On started asking him questions about his parents.
If Ga On were to rely on Yohan, that would also mean that Yohan would have control over him, either to use him as a pawn or to control Bambi enough to keep him safe and out of being targeted.
Lastly, am I the only one who is suspicious of Min Jung Ho?
If you made it this far again, thank you for reading my stress rant.
Now i’ll go back to silently stressing about next week because i have nothing better to do.

S6 Template for Where We Are Currently in the Show
Morning Everyone! So, after getting a particular Ask almost two weeks ago about shirt colors (black and white) in 6x08 and 6x09 pointing to future story arcs, I decided to re-watch the episodes and see what I came up with. This post is what came out of that. It’s a bit long, so get comfortable, but I had tons of fun rewatching these. I don’t get to do that much anymore these days.
Tumblr media
So, I looked at Carol's white shirt in these episodes, but as I watched, I kept going back to an earlier time that we'd seen Carol wearing a white shirt.
Remember, this was the episode where she went out together acorns and had to kill that really Beth-ish walker and then come back and shower and change her clothes. It's also in this episode that she takes Tobin acorn cookies. And they’re pink. (Pink Theory)
Tumblr media
So, the gist of what I'm going to say is that I think the entire season is a template for what's going happen moving forward. And honestly, we’ve seen this often enough that it's probably true of every season in some way or another. But will stick with S6 for now.
So, in thinking about Carol and Tobin 6x02, something occurred to me. I think Tobin is a prequel/foreshadow/forerunner of Ezekiel. It's actually a fairly common way to foreshadow something: have a smaller instance of it to foreshadow the bigger instance. I’ve said that with Glenn's death before. His death fakeout served many purposes, but in terms of his own arc, it was a foreshadow of his upcoming real death. In this case, they just put Carol in a short-term relationship in order to foreshadow her long-term relationship with Ezekiel.
And I bet if we studied Carzekiel as closely as we study Bethyl, we would come up with a lot of dialogue parallels and such. I don't have a whole lot of them, but I can think of one major event that was the same in both cases. ( I just had the thought that Carol showing up at Tobin's doorstep with cookies is a whole lot like Ezekiel showing up at her cabin with the pomegranate.)
Tumblr media
So, in Carol and Tobin's arc together, remember that she takes off and leaves him at the end of S6. That's when Morgan goes after her and it leads to her finding Ezekiel in the Kingdom. (Not at all an accident that she leaves Tobin and immediately runs in to her soulmate.)
I'm equating that with her leaving Ezekiel after Henry died. And Henry is the other part of the parallel. Carol left Tobin because she was dealing with Sam's death. The death of a child that she felt guilty about. She left Ezekiel for the same reason, after Henry's death. So, you can see the parallels between the two arcs. And that shows that what happened in S6 can foreshadow what's happening currently in the show between her and Ezekiel.
Tumblr media
I promise I'll stop talking about Carol and get to the more important stuff. But one more interesting thing that kinda made my jaw drop: After Creepy Wolf Dude took Denise and Morgan, Carol, Rosita, and Tara are on the brownstone together, Carol is looking out the window and Morgan walks up behind her.
He says, "you had a child? A husband?" And it's interesting because he doesn't say daughter, and Carol doesn't reference Sophia or Ed by name. And if you think about what's happened—Morgan was trying to keep her from killing Creepy Wolf Dude because "life is precious" and all that—there's really no reason for him to randomly ask about her past. But I think this shows that it's a foreshadow of what's to come. The next time around, they'll be talking about Ezekiel and Henry, rather than Ed and Sophia.
Okay, so all that was just to show that the entire season foreshadows what's to come. And when I watched 6x09, Daryl, Sasha, and Abraham on the road with the saviors, my just my mind just kept going back to the previous episode about them, which was 6x06.
Tumblr media
And we all know how much Beth symbolism was in that.
We saw Daryl meeting Dwight in the woods in 6x06 and all of the symbolism there. We already know from plenty of analyzing that Sasha and Abraham represent Beth and Daryl. I also think, in some cases, the two of them together represent Beth. But if you look at Daryl's arc in a very broad way for 6x06, we have him getting separated from Sasha and Abe (Beth) and by the end of the episode, he finds them again.
So, in terms of S6 being a template, 6x06 represents Beth and Daryl's entire separation arc. It's on a very small scale, but it kind of makes sense, doesn't it? Why the place they stayed, and Daryl later found them again had a sunrise on it. Why Sasha wrote his name with the huge X in the center. It's to show that this is a type of Beth and Daryl’s separation arc and then their reunion.
Tumblr media
Okay, so let's go back to what’s happening in S6. I'm not going to do this chronologically, but let's start with Daryl on the road meeting saviors. I want to point out one thing. The main leader of this group says something I've always zeroed in on but could never quite make fit.
At one point, he says, "ding dong, Hells bells." That's a reference to the Wizard of Oz. Because, "ding dong, the wicked witch is dead." I've always wanted to make that a Beth thing because the Wizard of Oz template was used for the Grady storyline. When I first heard it, back when this episode aired, I felt sure it was because she was with the Saviors and it was a hint toward that. Obviously not.
Tumblr media
But now I'm seeing that this is a Beth template, and that's probably why they put this here. Also notice the Saviors here are wearing black. Which could mean that they foreshadow the CRM. So, the most obvious thing I'm seeing here is that per 6x06, Beth and Daryl reunite after being separated for a long time. Then, on the road back to Alexandria, they run into the CRM (people in black). Maybe Daryl blows up the CRM in some way or kills them. And that will bring TF into a war with the helicopter group, much like it did with the Saviors.
(@frangipanilove also pointed out that there’s an AC/DC song called Hells Bells. So there’s a musical reference thrown into the mix. Which is awesome! ;D)
Okay, the next thing Nonny said is that Glenn and Enid probably represent Beth. I think that's true, but I think she's represented in a lot of different ways in this sequence. Specifically, through Sasha/Abe, Glenn/Enid, and Denise.
I won't need to go into a lot of detail about Denise. I didn’t see a whole lot more here than I’ve said in the past. I still think her being taken captive by Creepy Wolf Dude is a foreshadow of a storyline for Beth. There were two lines of dialogue that jumped out and me. When she’s in the brownstone, alone, with Creepy Wolf Dude, she tells him to "show me the wound." That SUPER jumped out at me because in 9x05 when Rick left, we heard Beth’s voice say, “what’s your wound.” Very similar.
Tumblr media
The other one was Creepy Wolf Dude explaining how he got his injury. It really wasn't a bite. He said he was breaking into a car and got cut on a rusty bumper. So, the car mention really jumped out at me. I feel like were going to see the fulfillment of this sequence with Creepy Wolf Dude and Denise for Beth sometime after she wakes up. Maybe whoever saved her after Coda gets hurt and she tends to them medically. He also talked about wanting to take over the wall with him to the outside and about how it wasn't as scary out there as she thinks it is. So yeah, it still screams Beth to me.
For Enid and Glenn, they return, and immediately run into Beth's (the blue, green, and yellow) church. And there, they find a gun. We have a combination of the weapon and the biblical symbols. Glenn even tells Enid to look inside the Bibles in case one of them is hollowed out.
Tumblr media
But the biggest thing here is that Maggie was in trouble and they came back to save her. And they sort of did, but then Glenn got in trouble and Sashraham showed up to save the day. So, we have two separate instances (Glenn/Enid and Sasha/Abraham) of Beth or Bethyl showing up in the nick of time to save everybody. I think we can all get behind that.
Also, when Maggie gets up on the scaffold, we see the red and green together. Green cord, Maggie’s red shoelaces. We’ve always seen that as a resurrection symbol, and said it probably has to do with Glenn being alive. I still think that’s true, but taken a broader context, it could also be a foreshadow of Beth's return and that this is a template for it.
Tumblr media
Okay, so let's look at this from a little bit broader view. We have five main groups that these two episodes focus on alternately. Maggie, Daryl/Sasha/Abraham, Tara/Rosita/Eugene, Carol/Morgan (by 6x09, the two of them merge with Eugene’s group) and then Rick and Michonne's group who are in Jesse's house.
(For the record, there are two other groups we see very briefly but they aren’t focused on in this episode. One is Olivia and Eric (Aaron's boyfriend) in the armory. We don't see what they're doing except that when the rest of the group runs out into the street to fight the walkers, they join in. And finally, the group that's in the infirmary before Denise gets there. This includes Aaron and Heath. Especially where Heath is concerned, I think that's super important. I’ll come back to it in a minute.)
I’ll start by talking about Morgan, Carol, Tara, Rosita, and Eugene. There’s definitely some interesting dialogue, especially from Eugene. I also think it's super important that they all seem to be wearing light-colored shirts, and that Eugene and Carol are in the same place.
Because where we are currently in the series is that Eugene and Ezekiel are the same place. Now, Ezekiel wasn’t in the show at this point, so it was impossible to have him here, but I'm wondering if at some point in the spinoff, Carol and Daryl will split up and go their separate ways and Carol will go to find Ezekiel.
(We already know there will be a falling out between Daryl and Carol in the upcoming bonus episodes and that they will go their separate ways for a time. Obviously they’ll come back together for the spinnof. But I think this separation foreshadows that in the spinoff, they’ll leave together, but at some point they’ll split up and go to separate places. We saw this with Huck and Felix in TWB, which is a template for the spinoff. And my theory is that Carol will go to find Ezekiel when that happens.)
That's really the biggest thing I think this points to. I also wonder how and if Morgan will be involved. Since he still alive, he could be. But he's also not on the show right now, so it's hard to tell. I suppose it just depends on where FTWD is at that point, and if they bring him back or cross him over into the spinoff. I think that's a real possibility.
I also want to point out the beginning of 6x08, right after the church falls, Carol trips and falls down. It turns out, she slipped on some bullets. Morgan helps her up and they run into the brownstone. It then goes on to say that she's hurt in the head and may even have a concussion.
Now, my first thought was that was super unrealistic, since all she did was trip and fall and we don’t even really see her hit her head. But she's also tricking Morgan and pretending to be more hurt than she actually is, so it may just be a ruse anyway.
Tumblr media
But the point is, between the bullets, and the mention of concussion, that's a huge Beth parallel. So, not sure if this points to Carol being part of a death fakeout, or somehow it's pointing back to Beth. If anything, I think it might point toward the Carzekiel death fakeout because it's after this that Morgan mentions you had—past tense—a son and a husband. So, if I'm right about that, we have a representation of the fake out, and then eventually Carol goes to where Eugene is. See what I mean?
Tumblr media
Oh, one more cool thing about Eugene’s group? Remember at first it was him and Tara and Rosita in the garage. Eugene had to pick the lock to get into the house. As soon as he does, they run into Denise and Creepy Wolf Dude kidnapping her. Um…Denise = Beth, so this may well be a representation of Eugene and his two friends (in S10 it’s Yumiko and Ezekiel) running into Beth. Also notice the lock/key reference that led to her. Just saying.
Okay, let's talk about Rick and Michonne’s group. In a lot of ways, this might be the biggest deal, but it's also the most fluid. I had a hard time seeing much of anything as a foreshadow from this group. At least, during the first part in Jesse's house. I mean, Rick is with Jesse, and there's drama between Ron and Carl. I've said before that a lot of their dialogue foreshadow Ron’s death for sure. But I just wasn't seeing anything very new. But I will say now that I think that this does foreshadow Carl's death as well. I get to that in a minute.
But I really started seeing some important stuff with Rick and Michonne’s group in 6x09 when they all moved out into the crowd of walkers covered in guts.
When they decide to go to the quarry instead of the armory (because they can’t get to the armory) Jesse says Judith won't make it. And Father Gabriel says he'll take Judith and protect her. I'm sure you can figure out why think that's important.
Tumblr media
1)     The Sirius character who represents Beth takes Judith with him to protect her.
2)     We have a representation of Rick and Michonne and being separated from Judith. Even if FG just represents himself in this sequence, where we are in the series now, we have Judith and FG in the same place. So again, this feels like a representation of where we are now. Rick and Michonne have left Judith in, sort of, Gabriel’s care. (I know she’s really more in Daryl’s care, but Michonne did tell her to be good for Aunt Rosita, and if Daryl doesn’t leave with Carol to get Judith in the spin-off—if it’s about Rick instead or something—I’m assuming he’ll leave the kids with Maggie and Gabriel.)
Interestingly, Rick and Michonne are still together, which they aren’t where we are now in the series, but we don't know how long it's gonna take Michonne to find Rick. She might find him quickly and the two of them will be together for significant period of time together inside the CRM. The point is, they’re in a different place than Judith.
So, the group moves on, and of course both Sam and Jesse are killed. And when Ron tries to shoot Rick, Michonne kills him and Carl is shot.
Tumblr media
This is the next significant piece. Of course we all know that Carl was shot in the eye in the comic books, so it’s something that they were always going to do in the show. But I really think this probably foreshadows Carl's death as well. Much like Glenn, his almost death here could be used as a foreshadowing for his real death down the line.
Of course, Rick picks him up and he and Michonne make their way to the infirmary. And here's what really jumped out at me about the infirmary: Heath is there.
Angela Kang has confirmed that Heath is inside the CRM. We know Rick is inside it somewhere, and that Michonne is heading to him. So, we have this interesting sequence where Michonne and Rick arrive in a new place and Heath is already there. See what I mean? So, I think we could possibly interpret this as Carl getting shot foreshadowing Carl's death, and then sometime after that, Rick and Michonne and end up at the CRM with Heath.
Tumblr media
But I can even give you third possibility here. With Carl being hurt, Rick goes into one of his losing-it trances and leaves the infirmary with his ax to fight the walkers. We hear Michonne screaming after him to wait. She waits until Denise has a good handle on Carl's condition and then she hurries after Rick to fight the walkers. I always loved this scene.
This is the only real representation I saw of Rick and Michonne being separated for a short period of time. Because he heads out without her.
So, think of it this way. He heads out into a hoard of walkers alone. And she screaming his name. Sounds a lot like what happened when he disappeared in 9x05. Meanwhile, Michonne stays behind, taking care of Rick's kids. In this case, it's Carl, but in S9, it’s Judith and RJ. Then, when she sure Carl is safe, or as safe as she can make him, she kisses him goodbye and goes after Rick. So, kind of like she left Judith and RJ behind to go look for Rick. Interestingly, who did she leave Carl with in S6? Denise. Who is a proxy of Beth.
So, I get that all of these overlap and they're very nonlinear. But I’m sure you can see what I mean about why I think all of S6 is a foreshadow of what's to come. And where we are right now in the series is at the crossroads of a lot of these possible foreshadows. Especially of Eugene finding Denise/Beth.
Tumblr media
And if we’re super literal with the interpretation, we might even say that Eugene finds Beth (Denise) in the Commonwealth, but then she leaves with someone else (whoever the equivalent of Creepy Wolf Dude will be for Beth) and then Denise goes to the infirmary, which is probably the CRM because Heath is there. And she's there when Rick and Michonne arrive.
I'm not at all set in stone about what I think will happen. I'm just saying its possibility. Beth, CRM, and Rick are things we’ve been looking at closely since Rick left in S9, so this is super-interesting.
Kind of a footnote, but when Denise is still with Creepy Wolf Dude, Carol shoots him. I'm not really sure how to interpret that. Maybe that was just for this episode and not part of the template. Because Carol was still with Eugene's group, but she went outside, saw Denise and Creepy Wolf Dude, and shot him so Denise could get away. So, no idea how to interpret that for future storyline, but it's kind of interesting. Carol being at all involved could possibly be traced back to the fact that she and Beth were at Grady together. Also makes me wonder if maybe at some point in TWB, Huck will shoot someone to save Will, Felix's boyfriend. Just because of the parallels.
And finally, I feel like Rick and Michonne going outside and leading the charge against all the walkers is something that has been foreshadowed many times. Remember that when I talked about 7x08, I said that Rick and Michonne coming to hilltop represented them returning after the CRM to Alexandria to lead the war? I saw this same thing foreshadowed in 8x09 when they return to Alexandria and find out Carl’s been bitten.
Tumblr media
In this case, they fight walkers rather than people (the CRM) so I don't know if that translates to the same thing, but the two of them being out there make other people want to join the fight. People come out of their respective hiding places and all of them fight the walkers together. And obviously, in the war against the CRM, everyone's going to have to work together.
I even wondered if these different little groups could represent different factions (Alexandria, Hilltop, the Kingdom, but also the people from Fear, the people from TWB, and anyone Beth might bring with her.) But I couldn't pin down who would be who. For example, if Carol, Eugene etc. represent the Commonwealth, that could be one group who comes out to help. Father Gabriel and the people who were in the church coming out to help could represent the people at Alexandria etc. You get the idea.
Tumblr media
And of course while all this is going on, we had the super interesting symbolism of Daryl, driving the Paddy truck (Beth symbol), picking up several people which include Glenn, Enid, Sasha, Abraham (all Beth proxies) using gasoline (Beth symbol) and fire (Beth symbol) to set a body of water (Beth symbol) on fire (Bethyl symbol).
Tumblr media
And it really goes along well with everything we've always said. I definitely think that the entire group is going to be fighting a big war and Beth isn’t by far going to be the only component. But something about her or maybe her and Daryl together come back with a key or a weapon that will help them win the war. If Daryl hadn't started that lake on fire, the walkers might have overwhelmed them all. It simply gave them the edge they needed to keep fighting and actually win.
And of course, in the sequence we see Daryl join the fight with two knives, including Beth's.
Tumblr media
Okay, I'll stop there. Just a lot of food for thought, no?

warnings: food mentions, mentions of being drunk. that’s about it, but please let me know if i’ve missed any—this is fluff, folks!
pairings: moxiety, mostly off-screen logince
words: 1,483
notes: i am literally so sorry this took so long! this prompt was “dance with me!” this takes place in the wyliwf verse, about two months after the main storyline. the songs patton’s listening to/singing to are “bubbly” by colbie caillat and “reflecting light” by sam philips, a gilmore girls easter egg and also where the title comes from.
logan has nearly one hundred pages to read for his english course, a paper to write for history, and two tests to study for in latin and science. his plan for this saturday has been to sequester himself into his room to handle them—they haven’t quite reached spring midterms, but they’ve certainly reached the point that his coursework is starting to pile up on him again to the point of being nearly unbearable.
his dad had agreed with this plan, and virgil had, too, sent him upstairs with some healthy study-snacks and an enormous bottle of water, in hopes that logan will “take care of himself.”
he has. he’s also found himself unexpectedly hungry, again—he wonders ruefully when this growth spurt will finally stop, and he’ll stop feeling like he’s eating his dad out of house and home, to quote virgil—but he plods down the stairs, empty plate in hand, ready to sneak into the kitchen to pile up his plate with some filling options. hopefully, he’ll remain unseen so he can flee back to his room before he can be distracted too much.
he hears music playing, the susurrus of a broom brushing along the floor, soft humming following, and then his dad starts to sing.
his dad has a pleasant voice—logan’s used to hearing it in terms of birthday songs, singalongs, and, in a handful of distant memories, being sung to sleep—and it harmonizes sweetly with the acoustic guitar, the alto voice of the artist. he remembers this song. it had been on the radio frequently when he was younger.
“dance with me!” patton sing-demands, at a break in the music, and logan chances a peek into the kitchen, trying his hardest not to be seen.
it’s still relatively early, so the sunlight’s slanting through the window in the kitchen, sunbeams that caught the dust motes dancing in the air. his dad was still half in pajamas—a sweater, pajama pants, one blue fuzzy sock and one black fuzzy sock—and virgil was dressed for the day, in jeans and his usual hoodie, but his feet were bare. his dad is twisting around the room, holding the broom as if it was a dance partner.
virgil has his back to his dad, but logan can still see the slight smile on his face, even as he scrubs at the dishes in the sink.
“i have kept you focused on chores,” virgil says, sounding only slightly resigned, “for five minutes. we can dance once the floor’s swept.”
“but this is a great song!” patton says, and picks up where the artist has continued without him, “—you make me smile, please, stay for a while now, just take your time, wherever you go—”
he twists on socked feet, mismatched, and tilts the broom so it stands on its own in the corner, slowly moving to crowd virgil at the sink, singing and harmonizing with the music all the while. virgil’s still fighting a smile, and focuses back on the dishes that he’s been scrubbing the whole time logan has been standing awkwardly in the living room, despite the fact that it’s visibly clean.
logan is beginning to regret that he hadn’t just continued without coming to a stop, when he’d heard the music. he knows his dad and virgil are together. he is happy about the development. he has been campaigning for it for years. it is nice to know that his father is being shown love, and being cared for, in the way that he deserves. it is also nice to know that virgil is just about the happiest he’s ever seen him.
it is also, he can acknowledge, a bit strange to walk downstairs on a saturday morning to see his dad cuddling up against virgil’s back, resting his chin on virgil’s shoulder, and cooing at him about virgil in the context of the lyrics it starts in my soul, and i lose all control. partially because it is virgil, but mostly because that is his dad.
(he might even admit, a while down the line, that the entirety of these feelings stem from that is my dad, considering he has three.)
but, he reflects as virgil rolls his eyes, smiling fondly, but at least he places the dish aside and moves to wipe his hands on a dish towel to gently hold patton’s wrists, keeping him in place, they are, very clearly, happy. yes, his father had sometimes sung and danced when he did chores on saturday mornings. but he had never had someone to sing and dance with. virgil has never had anyone to sing to him and dance with him.
his dad sways on his feet, keeping virgil in their strange half-hug, and ends the saccharine song with an equally saccharine kiss on the cheek.
“dance with me?” his dad requests again, softer.
virgil seems to war with it, for a moment, before he sighs in defeat. “one song.”
“that’s all i ask,” his dad says, and leans up to kiss virgil on the cheek. “here, i’ll pick, just—wipe off your hands, you’re leaving soap suds on my wrists.”
“oh,” virgil says, and hastily, more thoroughly, wipes off his hands. “sorry.”
his dad waves him off, his tongue poking between his lips before he lets out an “a-ha!” and hits play on a song.
this is a song that logan doesn’t know. it starts with similar instrumentals—acoustics—but patton rocks up and down on his toes.
“you’re looking at me like you’re expecting something,” virgil says.
“what, you don’t remember?” his dad asks, hands behind his back, seeming strangely shy.
and then the singer begins to croon, her voice soft and clear, “now that i’ve worn out, i’ve worn out the world, i’m on my knees in fascination…”
“oh,” virgil says. then, “frankly, i’m shocked you can remember this. you were destroyed.”
“we don’t talk about my twenty-first birthday,” patton says primly. “well. other than this. you remember it now, though?”
“yeah, ‘course,” virgil says, sounding strangely fond. “i was practically holding you up, you were so drunk, but you kept telling me one more song, one more song…”
“and this is the song that came on,” his dad says. “this is the first slow-dance we ever danced to.”
as they’ve been talking, they’ve slowly moved toward each other, almost like they’re being pulled by some kind of gravitational force. as the singer begins to crescendo, reaching the first verse, and they’ve settled into a dancing position. his father’s arms wrapped around virgil’s neck. virgil’s hands at his father’s waist. they’re swaying together, more than anything. logan knows his father can dance, in a formal sense. this is hardly formal dancing. virgil’s feet are bare, his father’s feet socked. virgil has a dish towel thrown over his shoulder. they aren’t really even performing dance steps.
“is that so?” virgil says softly.
and yet there is something just as graceful as a viennese waltz in the way that they turn tiny circles in the kitchen. there is something just as smooth in their movements. there is something even more clearly emotional than even the most chemistry-filled dance duo could ever accomplish their eyes are fixed on each other’s—virgil’s, softened and fond, his father’s, even more expressive than usual, a smile on his face that’s gone sweet and sappy around the edges.
it is so blatantly, clearly obvious that they love each other. in something as small as a dance on a sunny saturday morning, just to get a break from chores. in something as obvious as eye contact.
and this, logan thinks, this exact facial expression is why he can never get too righteous in his indignation about any potential displays of affection. because this is what he’s been rooting for for years.
he’s been rooting for them to be blatantly, clearly, obviously in love with each other. and now they are.
he cannot possibly be angry about that when it’s so sweet that it makes him want to call roman, a little, and it makes him imagine a tiny, dingy little apartment that’s all theirs when they’re trying to make it in the world, and roman doing the exact same thing, gently prising him away from his desk just to get logan to dance with him, to do something sweet and silly and small and romantic…
he sets the plate on the coffee table as quietly as he can. they’ll see it later, and hopefully get the hint. the snacks can wait. he figures they’re probably owed some privacy, anyway.
logan goes up the stairs, the music chasing him as he goes—“i’m on my knees in fascination, looking through the night, and the moon’s never seen me before…”
there’s a swell of violin and cello. a shared giggle. the sound of a gentle, honeyed kiss.
“…but i’m reflecting light.”
