Recently I’ve received some asks about events/weeks in the Tolkien fandom, so I thought I’d compile a list of those that I know about. This is not exhaustive, and dates are subject to change by the organizers of these events!
Other blogs you can check out are @tolkieneventsblog and @tolkienfandomevents, though I’m not sure how active those are. The @silmarillionwritersguild Discord also has a channel dedicated to signal boosts for all sorts of Tolkien-related & general fandom happenings, which is another excellent way to keep up with fandom goings-on.

Your friends and you had the brilliant idea to do a Christmas Santa, and you drew none other than your not-so secret friend with benefit: Eddie Munson.
Okay maybe you would like to be in an actual relationship with him, but you are to chicken to tell him, so you are content with what you got and do not want to ruin it with your feelings.
You found funny that you drew him and so you decided to by him the worst secret Santa gift humanly possible: something sex related.
You even went as far as to go to the only Sex Toys shop in Hawkins, and you were really embarrassed when you went to the check out when the cashier had to scan the bondage harness and cuffs. You blushed from embarrassment and left the store as fast as humanly possible. You then went home and hid it under your bed, so not parents can’t find it while you rush downstairs to find wrapping paper. You quickly wrap your two gifts and hide them in your closet.
You really can’t wait to see Eddie’s face when he’ll open the gift in front of all your friends. You know how embarrassed he will be, but you really love teasing Eddie. You became friends with benefits when you started nursing his wounds after the Upside-Down events, it started when Eddie was painfully hard and needed a blowjob, you happily gave him that and then it became recurrent. You love to pleasure each other once in a while and Eddie is the god of aftercare, even after you’ve experienced BDSM things. Your well being has always come before his and you really love that about it, it doesn’t just want to have pleasure, he also wants to give you pleasure.
A few days pass and it’s finally the day of your Secret Santa with your friends, you anxiously drive to Steve Harrington’s house. Thank god it’s just a party amongst the older ones from the group, how would you have explained to the younger ones your gift?
You park on Steve’s driveway and anxiously gets out of your car; you’re wrapped gifts clutched in your hands. Steve and Robin welcome you with a huge smile and a big hug and you go sit on the living room. A few moments later, Jonathan and Nancy arrive and the it’s Eddie’s turn.
You all sit crisscross on the ground and start exchanging gifts. The person who drew you was Steve and he gifted you a VHS of the last movie you’ve been keeping rambling on for days.
It’s now your turn to give Eddie your gift and you give the two wrapped paper to him, Eddie shaking with both anxiety and impatience.
Eddie takes his sweet time opening your gift and when he finally sees what it is he quickly hides it, glaring at you.
“You’re the worst!” he exclaims.
You burst out laughing while Steve tries to see what you bought to Eddie.
In the end, no one succeeded in seeing what you bought to Eddie. Once everyone left except Eddie, Eddie led you to your bedroom.
“Now we have to try them.” Eddie says smirking right before kissing your neck.
And you and Eddie did try the bondage harness as well as the bondage cuffs on him that night and you had the best sex you’ve ever had. Eddie even discovered that he liked it when you are dominant in bed and your neighbors probably heard that the two of you had an amazing time, but you couldn’t care less.

2024 fandom goals
I meant to post this around New Year's but I was consumed by the Secret Santa fic I was trying to finish (which might speak to my need for more organization lol but anyway...)
2023 was a year of fandom reawakening for me. I started it with a singular NU: Carnival fic to my name, which I had posted in late 2022 after years without making any fanworks. I ended the year with 30 NU:C fics and two original works. Not too shabby! I'm also still feeling pretty inspired and happy to be engaging with the community; fanworks and fan projects have given me a needed creative outlet as I wallow in the morass of academia.
This year I wanna...
Post at least one fanfic per month.
I love those 'my year in art' things and I wanna do it with fics. For 2023 I missed January.
Finish my longfics.
I'm so bad at non-oneshot content... but I look at how many subscribers Familiar Feast and Presents came early have, and I feel an intense need to deliver. I'm also really interested in what comes next for those stories. I just... eugh... shiny new things instead... but I will!
Participate in NU:C events.
Particularly the lineup by NuCarni Events. I'm interested in the Blade week, the Morvay week, the mid-year exchange (god help me), the Aster week, and the Advent Calendar. I might also do the Daster week, the Dante week and maaaybe the kuyaei week, depending.
Organize NU:C events.
The 2023 GaruKaru week was a great success, I should do it again. I also want to use that fanpage to put together other fandom events that are wolfboy-centric. Priority #1 is a kuyaru week...
Housekeep my fics.
I should update the start and end notes so they're less about that moment in time. I should also make some changes to the Blade/Rei and the Aster/Huey in light of new canon information. Clunky as AO3 may be when it comes to this.
Write more original work.
Fanfic cannot accommodate all of the depraved visions with which I am cursed... though I am very driven by comments and kudos and, as such, fanfic will always be my priority. What little engagement I get on these has been so nice, though.
Overcome all fear of cancellation.
Not that I have a lot of it, but still, I did worry a lot at first. This fandom has been fantastic about adhering to Don't Like Don't Read, though. I'm emboldened to post some more horrible things under my problematic pseud and trust people to curate what they engage with.
Collab with other creatives.
I've never done it before, but it sounds fun, if a little daunting. There are a couple opportunities on the horizon, we'll see!~
Pair Garu and Karu with every other character.
I already managed to make it so that fics with all of those pairings exist on Ao3 (check them out in this sheet), but many of those fics were not written by me. As a funky long-term goal I want to personally have at least one fic that is specifically written for each possible wolfboy pairing... and I've already written at least one fic with each character (even Edmond!), I think I can do it.
Guess I'll look back on this in December.

Welcome to the Berry Gameplay Server’s 2022 Advent Calendar!
Last year’s Advent went over so well we decided to bring it forward to this year as well! For those not in the know, we do seasonal events throughout the year including Love Day, Winterfest in July, Simblreen and a Secret Santa Father Winter!
What Gifts Are Up For Grabs?

A/N: For the month of December I'll be writing one TWDU fic a day based on the prompts I've listed below. All are Daryl x Reader or general family fics :) I do celebrate Christmas so that's going to be the main holiday in these.
Note: All stories connect to make one big story about Reader and Daryl's holiday season each year, but they can also be read as oneshots.
Pre-Prison Prison Alexandria Commonwealth
Day 1: Gloves Daryl gives Reader his gloves when he notices their hands won’t stop shaking.
Day 2: Winter clothes The group breaks into a shopping center to find winter attire. Reader and Daryl share a moment.
Day 3: Cold Nights in powerless houses are freezing, so Daryl keeps Reader warm.
Day 4: Snowed in The group is snowed in at their current house. Reader suggests a festive game to lighten the mood.
Day 5: Decorating Reader, Maggie, Beth, and Carol make the prison more festive for the holidays, much to Daryl and Rick's exasperation.
Day 6: Blankets Daryl and Reader share a guard tower shift on a freezing night. Talk turns to the future.
Day 7: Shopping Maggie and Reader go on a run for gifts.
Day 8: Secret Daryl does something nice for the group in secret.
Day 9: Gift It’s Christmas Day at the prison, so everyone exchanges gifts. Reader gives Daryl his gift in private.
Day 10: Confession Daryl and Reader confess their feelings on New Year’s Eve.

Ever wonder about the fics that don’t make it through the final round of voting for the bi-weekly read in the book club? You’re in luck!
The book club is structured so that we solicit nominations from our members, either based on a theme or a trope or simply a request for their favorites, and develop a list of ten nominations, which are then narrowed down to a top three. The top three fics end up in our weekend vote and the winner of that vote becomes our book club fic for that week.
‘Tis the season; in the Northern Hemisphere, the nights are drawing in and our final round of the year is upon us! This week, we took nominations for all fics winter-holiday themed, to get us in the mood before our December break.

"I'm afraid so, Mr Barnes," Maria replied sharply. "That's the order I was given."
"Who gave that order?" Sam asked.
Maria made a few taps on the tablet in front of her, not even acknowledging Sam. "Team building is an important exercise for any group that-"
"Who gave the order?" Sam repeated.
"- that has to work together as closely as you, that's the order." She dodged the question and went into a speech about why this was important.
I sighed to myself. We didn't need team-building. We all knew each other, we had all fought together against Thanos, and we had all lost people we cared about. We'd had our differences through the years, The Sokovia Accords for instance. But we always managed to come together and work as a team, as a family.
"And since it's that time of year, you will do Secret Santa," Maria finished.

Title: Christmas is all around

Summary: Waking up, Dan Humphrey finds his father in the kitchen singing along to Last Christmas which is rather unusual. However, he soon finds out why Rufus is acting like that.
Notes: This is the rewritten version of Chapter 3 as I decided not to include the Heather Welch-storyline in the challenge. Obviously, this sets in an AU.
December 3 – Christmas is all around
On a December morning when it was cold and foggy outside and one deserved an award only for getting out of bed, Dan Humphrey walked out of his room, still rubbing his eyes, but what he found in the kitchen made him think he might still be dreaming. His father, Rufus Humphrey was there, making waffles which wasn’t unusual at all; however, he was singing Last Christmas along with the radio, using a wooden spoon as a microphone. The same Rufus Humphrey who gave them a twenty-minutes long lecture about how much Last Christmas sucked. What the hell was going on?
“Of all the songs, Dad,” Dan said, shaking his head a little as he went to the coffee machine.
“Good morning to you, too, son,” Rufus greeted him then continued singing.
“What has gotten into you?” Dan wondered. “Are you releasing a Christmas album?” he guessed.
He hoped they wouldn’t. The world definitely didn’t need another cover of Silent Night by a once (almost) famous rock band.
“Is it going to be titled ‘Hawk! The herald angels sing?’” he continued, making a refence of the name of Rufus’ band, Lincoln Hawk.
“No, we’re not releasing a Christmas album,” Rufus assured him, “but if we ever do it, we’ll definitely use this title. Want some waffles?”
Was that even a question? With a nod, Dan took a plate for himself and held it out for his father so he could put the fresh waffle on it. With the plate and a cup of coffee he sat down at the counter to have breakfast. He only took a few bites when he noticed a wide smile appearing on Rufus’ face. Turning around, Dan saw Lily van der Woodsen walking into the kitchen, wearing nothing but one of Rufus’ flannel shirts. The smile on her face mirrored the one Dan’s father had on. What the hell was going on here? – the boy asked himself again.
“Hello, Lily,” he greeted her, genuinely surprised.
“Good morning, Daniel,” she said then she stepped to Rufus and pressed a kiss on his cheek.
“Nice shirt,” he said. “It looks great on you.”
“I have several sets of beautiful and delicate lingerie, yet this one is your favorite,” she teased him.
“Because it’s mine,” he said, slipping an arm around her waist to pull her closer to himself.
“Dad, the waffle,” Dan warned him throwing a glance at the waffle maker that was smoking.
Rufus had to let go of Lily to take out the burnt waffle so she could pour a cup of coffee for herself.
“What happened?” Dan asked.
“The waffle got burnt,” his father answered.
“I mean, last night.”
“Turns out that I’m irresistible when I squeeze that extra syllable into the line ‘If you really love Christmas’, Rufus replied, half-joking.
A small laugh escaped Lily’s mouth. She had never thought he would hear Rufus sing the song Christmas Is All Around from Love Actually. But he performed on a charity gala in which everyone got a randomly assigned song, just like in a secret Santa and Rufus got that one. Lily was in the audience and the rest was history.
“You can put it on that Christmas album,” Dan said once he finished his waffle. “I still have to go to the library,” he added as he got up from his chair. “I’ll be back in the afternoon.”
“What Christmas album?” Lily asked when Dan was no longer in the loft.
“Never mind,” Rufus said and now he finally kissed her. He wanted to do that since she had set foot in the kitchen.
Leaving the building, Dan realized he forgot to bring his gloves, but he decided not to go back as he didn’t want to see his dad making out with Serena’s mom in the kitchen. With a sigh he slid his hands into his coat’s pocket as he walked to the metro station, while the song “Winter Wonderland” was playing somewhere near. Christmas was inevitably all around.

The last pinch-hits have come in, so…
That’s a wrap on the Tolkien Secret Santa 2021! We officially mark the end of our fifth anniversary exchange.
Despite a rocky start on the mod end, this has shaped up to be one of our most delightful and smoothest years yet, and one with record numbers of participation. We thank you all again so much for your support at the beginning of the event and throughout. We were so glad to bring back the Advent Calendar and to see your creations in the lead up to the reveals. Your gifts to each other have been inspired and beautiful and full of heart. We were also thrilled over your enthusiasm to join in the live events - the community that has grown around this event is truly special and getting the chance to create together in that setting was such a treat.
The greatest gift of this exchange, however, is not just the final collection of beautiful end products - it's you.
The kindness with which you, the participants, have interacted with us mods and - from what we’ve seen - each other, is truly something beautiful and to be celebrated. Thank you so much for making the TSS what it is.
We also want to extend a special thanks to our wonderful pinch-hitters for putting in the time to make this a fulfilling exchange for everyone.

They are made to do Secret Santa for team building, and Bucky sees it as an opportunity to do something special for a certain someone…

It was getting late in the evening when everyone else had quit on the Christmas movie marathon and only Bucky and I were left. One of the silliest of the holiday rom-coms came on, and even if it was one of my favourites, I knew Bucky probably wouldn't be. He should watch at least one in his life though and I told him as much. He reassured me it would be fine, if it was a favourite of mine, he'd enjoy it too.
Halfway through it, I noticed he got very quiet. Wondering if he was embarrassed by all the sugary feelings or even mad or emotional, I glanced at him. He had fallen asleep.
Something seemed to melt inside me at the sight of him. At how calm and relaxed he looked. At understanding how much he must be trusting me to let his guard down enough for this.
Smiling to myself, I turned back to the movie.
I didn't remember falling asleep but realised I must have when I heard the upbeat song in the credits and the text rolled across the TV screen looking blurry.
